Last show was great. I love the fact that you have Disco being oblivious to reality. OH, how love blinds you....well...love and a beautiful Nitro Girl who was a cover girl for a nude magazine...lol Not feeling the comedy act with Lynn and Kidman, but I guess if your going with the something for everyone aspect it works. Macho interview was great. I love the text sizing and stuff for emphasis on words. Closing was cool, intense, I can see Flair going crazy and grabbing O'l Benoit. WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Ultimo Dragon (c) v The Fallen Angel- I'm going with Dragon because well..he's he champ. I'm a huge Dragon fan, and I think he still had tons to give in the WWE a few years back, but they didn't feel the same way. Well, there is always TNA later:) 'Dog Faced Gremlin' Rick Steiner v 'Human Suplex Machine' Taz- I'll go with Taz here, as I feel Rick Steiner has never done anything signficant on his own. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked he guy, but who would he be without Scotty? Psicosis v Lance Storm This sounds like a cool match-up. A mix of styles, but both very unique and fast paced when need be. I'm a STORM fan even though I didnt really catch TONS of his work. He could've done big things in this business if given the chance. He's sorta in the same area as William Regal in my opinion. Vince always used him when needed, but left on he back burner any other time. Disco Inferno (c) v Stevie Ray I'm going with Disco to continue the fued with Page over he TV title. Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger and 'The Man of 1000 Holds' Dean Malenko v Los Vengadores ('The Chairman of WCW' La Parka and Lizmark Jr) Ah, good match, but my choice is based on Lizmark being a bobbagadoosh!:) Raven v 'Your Olympic Hero' Kurt Angle: The youngser with he victory, 'The British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith and the British Connection ('Lord' Steven Regal and 'The Belfast Bruiser' Fit Finlay) v 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, Bill Goldberg and WCW United States Champion 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit The Great Muta v The Giant We got an allstar team vs he foreigners...I'll go wil all stars. Sting and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage v WCW World Heavyweight Champion 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho and 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page I'll go with the heels here, but who knows.

The week before World War III is like watching a mass of the condemned on death row, waiting as their final plea for clemency is most likely about to be rejected. For this list of vagabonds who either are without a World Championship Wrestling contract, or seemingly on the outer, there is no tomorrow. And they know it. Their heat rates are up, beads of sweet are forming collectively on their scalps, and they are praying to mother mercy that this one ultimate chance is captured. For if it's not, for some of these men, this is it for the big time. And if you are not in the big time, you might as well face reality that tomorrow you're going back to filling 'em up at the local gas guzzler or working on the chain-gang in construction hell. It's really that simple. In one week time, these men face their ultimate destiny, and its this fact alone, without even considering their individual skills that makes each and every one of these condemned wrestling felons dangerous to the favourites going into World War III. The names I speak of read like an international who's who of professional wrestling. You have second generation wrestler Brad Armstrong who has been working various non televised house shows, from Mexico you have Damien 666, El Dandy, Latin Lover, Octagon, Silver King, Super Calo, Vampiro and Villano IV. There is Japanese talent in Shinjiro Otani who is a former WCW Cruiserweight Champion and MAGNUM Tokyo a former ally of current WCW Television Champion Disco Inferno. There is also a reprieve for former Flock students Sick Boy, Horace Hogan. But the men who must look in the face of destiny the most are those who don't have age on their side, indeed, to some commercialised publicists of professional wrestling it would appear that age has wearied them if not ravaged them. The reality though is that these men are experienced and have a household of amazing accomplishments next to their name. This group includes Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine and his partner from Rhythm & Blues the Honky Tonk Man and former Midnight Express legends 'Sweet' Stan Lane and 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton. "It's not what people assume" Bobby Eaton told me as we sat down at a Starbucks to enjoy coffee, while nowadays a more commercialized mainstream necessity, back in his day it was something old codgers drank. Bobby drank it before every match to help get him prepared. "The name has nothing to do with the movie. I mean, who do you picture me to be? Randy Quaid? I'm far too beautiful for that. No, the name simply derives from the fact that we partied hard after midnight and all had black cars. By all, most people realise that's theres me and Stan [Lane], but there's also Dennis [Condrey], Randy [Rose] and Norvell Austin. Randy and Dennis were the originals, so I guess in some respects Stan and I owe it all to them." Bobby is definitely from the old school, and in his long 22 year career he's probably seen it all. "But these luchadores, they're something else. Can you believe I just did a six man lucha tag match at a house show the other month?" He laughs it off, disbelieving at the changes in professional wrestling. "I think in some ways pro wrestling has kind of lost its ability to be tough, you know what I'm saying. When the Midnight Express was hot, a punch meant something. A kick was important. Every move led to something. I just wondered whether these guys knew that they could achieve twice the pain for half the effort." His name transcends the globe as being a galvaniser in some of the hottest talents in various promotions around the world. Indeed, one former WCW star making it big elsewhere described Bobby's in ring style as a 'night off', making this comment due to the fact that Bobby's professionalism and ability to run a match made it such a breeze to have a great match that you felt you hadn't worked for the overall outcome. A recent World Wrestling Federation Champion and another former WCW superstar also backed this comment up. Despite being somewhat of an arrogant character at times, Bobby is revered in the locker room as one of the nice guys. I tried to understand just how Bobby was feeling approaching perhaps the biggest night of his career since the dissolution of the Blue Bloods, but in typical Eaton style the response was understated. "Damn right I want a shot at the Championship," he claimed. "I wouldn't be here if I ain't interested in it. I could tell you till I'm blue in the face that I'm going to hit the Alabama Jam on the Giant, on Wrath, on whoever. Whether it happens or not, I'll just lace on the boots, sit down with my coffee, and go out there and give it my best shot, just like I did for twenty two years, man." Despite his non committal response, Bobby was under no illusions to what World War III meant to his and others careers. "The fact is man, four weeks ago I was sitting at home in Alabama when I got the dreaded Fed Ex. So I simply packed me boots and went and found the next available ring that wanted me in it, man. And then, Bischoff plays this game where he says I want you on Nitro, and I'm like, Nitro man? That's kind of ironic man given you didn't want me on that show for years and were still paying me, but you want me here even though you're not paying me? At the end of the day, man, those fans still wanted the Midnight Express, so when I talked it over with Stan, I decided to come on down. When I went through the curtain to the back after I was done out there, the boys gave me a big round of applause man, it was great. So what happens if I get tossed out? I just put the boots back in the bag and see who else will take me, you know. That's what the life of a pro wrestler is like. People think its all Hogan like where you star in a movie and this and that but the fact is you get slammed on your back and yer head, and in return you wait till you are fired." There is still hope for 'The Beautiful One' should World War III not succeed. Due to his legendary understanding of ring psychology and ring technical basics, the new WCW game due out in the new year, WCW Thunder, is understood to be considering Bobby for a role in production. "Basically they just put some yella dots on me and throw me around," he says. "It's no different really, just put some dots on me and its all the same." He laughs as he recalls the days of Beta, the days of VHS trading, the days of cheap imitation products that his nephews would play on Sega Master System or the Commodore 64, and he thinks its curiously ironic that he potentially will now be the prototype for the next generation of game entertainment. Nothing though is finalised yet, and this could make a wrestler like Eaton struggle to come to grips with the harsh cold facts of reality that next Sunday could be his final hurrah in front of his adoring fans. "If it is, I've had a great run. I've made some great friends. These fans have been a tonne of fun, man. A tonne of fun. They're the true Beautiful Ones." Maybe from above a miracle will alight Bobby and take him back to the promised land of professional wrestling glory. More likely it will not, and Bobby will be scrapping for every opportunity. But despite the inevitable reliance on the contract that may be taken away from him, he knows, Bischoff knows, Turner knows, Dr Harvey Schiller knows, and all his beautiful fans know, no one can take away all the fun the Midnight Express and 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton have had together - it's been fun for Bobby, it's been fun for broadcast journalists like myself, and it's been a great ride for their rabid fans. Hopefully, Bobby is able to go Down the Wrestling Highway with yours truly more, because frankly, it's not often the man you are interviewing begs to pick up the tab for your coffee. Come World War III, there is nothing surer. Whether it be Valentine, Honky Tonk Man, Stan Lane or Bobby Eaton, or all of them, there will be a changing of the guard and an end to a beautiful era.

As the gold pyros burst into the atmosphere of this arena, and the beautifully verluptuous Nitro girls, led by AC Jazz and Fyre are in the ring performing a routine hat and steel chair straddle dance segment, the video montage is finishing up on TNT as we broadcast live from Indianapolis, Indiana. "Welcome everybody to another sold out WCW Monday Nitro," Tony Schiavone says. "And what a great night we have in store for you as we continue the road to World War III, where one man will have to go through 59 other men to grab a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Hello everybody, I am Tony Schiavone and with me as always at the announce table is Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan and 'Living Legend' Larry Zbysko and tonight guys, there is a whole lot of questions and not ma... Wait a minute, what's this?" Schiavone is rudely, or more probably, thankfully, interrupted by the nWo theme, which greets the arrival of 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page, who comes down the ramp on his lonesome. At the bottom of the ramp he flashes the signal for the Diamond Cutter and carries on his path to the ring. Once in the ring, he waits for the heat to build up from the fans before addressing the fans. "Yo, you love me, you hate me, but one thing's for sure... You'll never forget me," he says to be begin with. "The fact is, because of me, you are all here. You see, the greatest commercial advent in the long history of professional wrestling has been the birth and growth and domination of the New World Order. And who may I ask is the man responsible for the nWo? That's right, the man you foolishly pinned all your hopes on. All you Indy loving rednecks..," this comment draws a massive heel response, which Page laughs off, "fell for me as if I was the second coming of the lord himself. And while that great man and I share many similarities in that we both are icons for the present and future generations, long after all you schmucks in the crowd, and shmucks like Disco Inferno, Raven, Eddie Guerrero and the like have all been fogotten, have all been forgotten. You see, you are all nobodies, whereas I am a revolutionary hero. Much like General Custer, much like Robert E Lee.. you all sit there and you have the luxury of seeing me as a traitor, as a Benedict Arnold, but you see that through blind eyes to reality. You have that luxury, I don't give a damn what your thoughts are on me or the nWo, all I will say is that come World War III, Ric Flair! You're in for a big surprise, pal. Things are going to get real jacked up! And as far as your other pal, Bill Goldberg?" GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG! The crowd chants in unicon with the piped in chants. Nice production work there. Page shakes his head in dismay, before finally, Bill Goldberg's storm trooper type music begins. Page looks on shocked, but then his shock turns to a comic laugh, as we go to the back, and 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, slams his head on the locker room door. Jericho clutches at his head, and shakes off the pain, before walking with a rather fat security guard, a toothless hick who is wearing the Jericho Personal Security t-shirt. Tony Schiavone reliably informs us that that is Jerichos' new security guard, Ralphus. They turn a corner, and then wind around another corner, and we follow them taking another corner, and another, just as we always do every week with Bill Goldberg. But, suddenly, there is a glitch. Jericho goes through a door, assuming it was a door en route to the ring, only to find it shut behind him, and find himself locked out in the carpark! He begins banging on the door, begging to be let in. OOH YEAH!, is heard and the music of Pomp and Circumstance begins, and coming to the ring is DDP's long time enemy, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage. Savage continues down the ramp, towards the ring, as Page awaits his arrival. Once in the ring, Savage twirls his finger and then points aggressively at Diamond Dallas, before raising a microphone. "OOOOH YEAH!" Savage begins. "You know somethin Diamond Dallas Page, YEAH! It sure is great being back here in Indianapolis, INDIANA YEAH!" The crowd react with a cheap face pop, before Savage quickly raises the microphone once more. "But yeah it's not as good as being in my hometown of Sarasota, Florida!" This is met with a terse response from the crowd. "What do you want, Randy?" Page asks. "Straight to the chase, Dallas? That's not like you, yeah, you are a coward who takes his time until the coast is clear to make his move yeah. You're like a sli-ver-REEEEE snake crawling in through the long grass yeah and then striking at the last second. Yeah, you are a coward, a cowa.." Just then, the slow classic music of Sting hits, and the Stinger begins dropping down from the ceiling. Once in the ring, he detaches from the safety harness, and points the bat at 'Macho Man' Randy Savage. Savage looks on wide eyed, and then looks to the crowd, and back to Sting, who continues to hold the bat out, before suddenly Sting drops it, and raises another microphone. "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" The crowd emphatically respond to the WCW legend. "I can't believe I'm standing in this ring, in Indianapolis, Indiana," this gets another favourable response. "I love Christmas, I love Birthdays, I love coming back here to Indiana here on Monday Nitro! And Randy Savage, pal, I love getting my hands around your gutless throat! Randy! As I stand here in this ring, surrounded by all my little Stingers! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I'm reminded of that time when my pal Lex Luger, yourself and I fought to try and save WCW from this man, and his chronies, the nWo at Bash at the Beach 1996. And then I remember, Randy, I remember you and Lex and Arn and Ric and all the boys all forgetting who I was, and you cast terrible aspersions on the Stinger. So as I stood in the hallway a few weeks ago and you clotheslined me for no apparent reason but for the gutless hope of taking MY spot, just like you all did back in 1996 when you all took MY spot and you allowed THIS MAN and all the sycophants he brings with him to pollute our sport, it all made sense. Because it's funny that you speak of a snake, Randy. You see, the biggest snake is, was and always will be... YOU! You wriggled your way into the nWo, and when you had raked in enough cash from them, you even turned your back on them. This from a man who DIDN'T BELIEVE in me. Didn't believe in... ME! Well here I am, Randy, I'm still standing here, and I'm like the ole WCW leopard, because while this Stinger has changed his face paint, changed his cloak, picked up a baseball bat... this Stinger has NEVER EVER changed his spots! And that's what makes you envious. You see Randy, I remember talking to Tony Schiavone back in 1996 after I had slapped the smirk off Scott Hall's face on WCW Saturday Night. And what I remember was standing to my left was Lex and standing to my right was you. And I said back then was that WCW was being terrorised by a couple of thugs. But you Randy, you're no different. You're a politician, you're manipulative, and pal, I just can't stand it anymore. ANYMORE! So, pal, as much as I want that WCW World Heavyweight Championship back, it would be almost more pleasing to take you to school and back this coming Sunday at World War III... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Because at World War III, it's SHOWTIME, FO..." Just then, the Goldberg music recommences, and we cut to the back to see 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho being let in by a WCW production crew member. Ralphus has with him a folded up lined A4 piece of paper, and he tries to make heads or tales of the drawing to find his way to the ring. All of a sudden, Pamela Paulshock mosies her way onto the scene, and 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho stops her. "Toots, do you know the way to the ring?" Jericho asks. "Oh hang on a second, you're a ditzy blonde, why would I ask you? I should know better than that. After all, I am Lionheart Chris Jericho, and this is... MONDAY... NIGHT... JERICHO! I am the man of 1004 holds, I am your paragon of good virtue, I am the ayotollah of rock n rollllllla and I am YOUR WCW World... Heavyweight.... Champion. I can't believe in this day and age, on MY show, Monday Night Jericho, that they would move the ring without telling me. This is my show! It's mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" "D..Do you know you're live on air, right now?" Paulshock asks, and Jericho spins around looking all shocked and quickly starts shaking his hair and then brushing it, and then giving a slick, fake smile. "Look, toots, I'm going to make this all quick and simple. I am a very frustrated man. On my own show, they have moved my own ring. MY RING! What's going on out there, now?" "In the ring..?" "No, in Alice in Wonderland. OF COURSE THE RING YOU IDIOT! Whose out there?" "Diamond Dallas Page, Sting and Randy Savage." Jericho begins to stroke his chin, and then smile. "Really? Perfect. And we're going live?" "All across the world." "Great." Jericho puts his hands in a praying position and bows his head, "Konichiwa to all my fans in China." "You mean Japan?" "Oh, I get it, now you know where all my friends live? How convenient? What's next? You'll twitch your nose and know what I have on my mind..." "Well actua.." "SILENCE! I care not for what you think, toots. You're just a pair of helium balloons and a microphone to me. Lovely balloons though they are, I must admit. This is all very perfect," he says as his eyes are dazed over her immense chest. Finally he snaps out of it. "And it's perfect out there, too. Because I, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion need a tune up. And in that ring stand two of the lowest bottom feeding trash bags known to man. And, I, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion need a tune up. Savage is a punk, and Sting is a stooge. And I, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion need a tune up. So here's what I'm going to do. Tonight, I'm proposing a tag team match. On one team we will have Randy Savage and Sting, and on the other side myself and Diamond Dallas. Why? Because I, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion need a tune up. And because I'm the man of 1004 holds, and I'd like to run through a few of them before I destroy them both at World War III. Boom boom boom, Pam, I want to double boom, lets spend the night together ... Wait! What am I saying, you're a disease riddled ho-bag! Yuck! Anyway, Sting and Savage, tonight... You will find out why I will never...EEEEVVVERRRRR drop my precious, my sweet, my harmonious WCW World Heavyweight Championship... EVER! ... ... ... ... Now toots, which way back to my dressing room?" ------------------------------------------------ Backstage, Bill Goldberg slams the remote control to the ground as he turns that off. "What the hell was that all abouuuutttt?" WCW United States Champion 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit asks. "Did you see that? Often imitated, never duplicated, pal," Goldberg responds. "I.. I just don't get why he'd do that?" "Because, he's scared of me. He knows if he wins at World War III he's facing me at Starrcade." "Is that a fact?" Benoit angrily snaps. "Uh... well, uhh..." Meanwhile, 'The Enforcer' Arn Anderson takes off his neck brace, and starts crinking his neck joints. He starts bounce-jogging on the spot, and throwing a few left and right jabs. "What are you doing, pal?" Says the familiar voice of his long time associate 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair. "I'm getting ready, what does it look like?" Suddenly, Benoit and Goldberg stand behind Flair, looking concerned with Arn's movements. "Don't do it, Arn," Goldberg implores. "That neck's not right, man..." "Yeah...," he says as he continues to jog, "neither's all this! And tonight, there's going to be three of the Four Horsemen in the ring at one time, and the only way I can trust it going according to plan... with no dissent is if I step in there myself." "Arn, we will take care of it," a very scruffy voiced Chris Benoit says. "Everything's all good now, we know what it's all abooouutt. Right Bill?" Goldberg nods and smiles, as Anderson nods in acceptance. As they turn away, and Flair looks at Anderson, we can see it was a ruse as both men smile, knowing they played the sympathy card perfectly to ensure Benoit and Goldberg work as a well oiled team tonight. Ultimo Dragon's stiff kicks though kept control of the match, and despite a couple of near falls from the Fallen Angel, Ultimo Dragon was able to hang on, winning not with the Dragon Sleeper but with an Asai Moonsault. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Ultimo Dragon
"Welcome back fans, what a great show we have in store for you," Tony Schiavone implores. "The road to World War III continues, and what a special time of the year it is. It's a time where superstars from around the globe battle for that one last opportunity at the ultimate glory, at gaining a shot at the greatest Championship in professional wrestling. Straight after WCW Saturday Night, 'Iron' Mike Tenay sat put together this video package with some exclusive comments from some of the veterans who will hope for one last hurrah at World War III." The intro to the video is set to Brain Stew by Green Day. The usual, scatty rift goes through the video in between some of the comments offered by the stars of yester-year. "...I ripped a man's ear apart... Suffered more broken bones than I care to remember... ...Still kept going," Greg 'The Hammer Valentine reflects as the rift to Brain Stew intensifies. "...I've had a great run. I've made some great friends. These fans have been a tonne of fun, man. A tonne of fun. They're the true Beautiful Ones," 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton says. Another round of the rift of Brain Stew ensues. "At World War III, a century of professional experience goes on the line," 'Iron' Mike Tenay begins. "And barring a miracle, it appears to be the end of the road for these men. Men who have lost so much blood, broken so many bones, wrestled hour long matches, wrestled in dog collars [we see stills from Valentine-Piper at the original Starrcade]. They have lost more than they care to admit, but the one thing they have always had is hope. And this Sunday, for most, if not all, that all ends." Brain Stew intensifies as we see footage of 'Sweet' Stan Lane, Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine, 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton and the Honky Tonk Man in action from their days in World Championship Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance. "My dad lost it all," Valentine reflects. "Got a broke back from a plane crash. Same one that Ric Flair was in. He lost it all, and I tried to regain it for him." "I've shaked these hips all over the world baby," Honky Tonk Man says. "There's a lot of things I don't like about pro wrestling today, but baby, I just want one more shot to Shake, Rattle and Roll." "Stan and I have had so much fun," Eaton says. "It was like a magic bond, man... So what happens if I get tossed out? I just put the boots back in the bag and see who else will take me, you know. That's what the life of a pro wrestler is like..." "The life of a professional wrestling is one of the toughest ways to make a dollar," Tenay adds. "But for these four men, there's one last opportunity. One last opportunity to savour their fans. One last shot at glory. One last shot at sealing their place in history. If they lose, they're on their own. One... Last...Shot. On my own, here we go." The quicker rift at the end of Brain Stew closes out, as we review more celebration poses from the four aforementioned men, who put everything on the line this coming Sunday. He has wrestled in Japan and here in the States and is a really sharp, powerful wrestler. But tonight, he was handled like a midget as Taz, who has dominated ever since he arrived at WCW and joined the nWo, destroyed Rick Steiner mercilessly winning with the Tazmission to which Steiner had no alternative but to tap quickly to, begging for mercy and safety. Result: Your winner, Taz
Another video segment begins, highlighting the Monday Nitro where 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair was given the rudest shock of his wrestling career courtesy of his arch nemesis, the leader of the nWo 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff. "As far as you go, Ric Flair. You have spoken of your desperate attempts to have another shot at me. I'm a generous and fair man, Ric. So at World War III, you will face a mystery opponent. There will be two stipulations, Ric. If you win, you will get a shot at me at Starrcade. If you lose... your career... Is over! Tony Schiavone is at the announce table and starts peeling through a pile of paperwork. "Is there clues amongst all this?" He asks. "I... I just don't get it. I don't know who it could be. Is it someone from Connecticut? Perhaps an international superstar? I... I... I just don't get it. Why would Bischoff do that to Ric Flair?" "Because he's vindictive and he's smart," Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan adds. "He knows if he gets rid of Ric Flair, which he will do this coming Sunday, that's all over. I know who it is, do you, Tony?" "You seriously know who it is?" "Think about it... Well, maybe you can't, after I'm the Brain and to me it's obvious." "How can... Forget it. Nothing's obvious anymore in this damn company," Schiavone comments. "Nothing is as it seems anymore Bobby, everything has changed." "I can tell you this much" 'Living Legend' Larry Zbysko says, "I'm glad I'm on the pay roll this Sunday because I can assure you I wouldn't want to miss out on this. It could be practically anyone in the wrestling universe!"
Lance Storm v Psicosis Lance Storm of Thrillapalooza tried to keep this match moving quickly as is the motto of Thrillapalooza, but this seemed to be a mistake as it played right into the former WCW Cruiserweight Champions' hands. Some great spots, but all in all, a good victory from Psicosis who missed a standing side kick and hit a twisting neckbreaker, and then went to the top and hit a move very similar to Juventud Guerrera's 450 splash for the win. Result: Your winner, Psicosis
Backstage, Pamela Paulshock scurried down the locker room hallway with a microphone. "Guys, earlier this evening 'Macho Man' Randy Savage and Sting, who will be part of a three way dance for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship were teamed tonight to face the World Heavyweight Champion himself 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho and 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page, representing the New World Order. What you guys didn't see earlier this evening was the reaction of both these two men, and all reports says as they came back through the curtain that they were far from being on speaking terms," Paulshock begins. "What I'd like to do right now is recap some of the amateur footage that was captured earlier." ... We cut to a scatty cam-corder recording of Sting and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage in the hallways. The two are shouldering each other as they walk up the hallway, before finally, Sting snaps and shoves Savage in the chest. "What the hell is your problem?" Sting asks. "My problem is you! Yeah! My problem is how you've sat at the top these past two years and tak-EEEEN the controls away from the madness YEAH for the World Heavyweight Championship." "Why don't you do something about it then?" Sting challenges. Savage goes to swing a hard right hand, but Doug Dillenger and the WCW Fun Police arrive on the scene and quickly step in the path of Sting and Savage who are restrained, eventually. .... We cut back to Pamela Paulshock who stands at one door, marked 'Randy Savage'. "It's time to find out about what went down earlier," she says, before she raps her knuckles on the door. She knocks again, and again, and again, but there is no response. She goes across to the door marked 'Sting', and knocks, but again, there is no response. "Guys, it doesn't look like these two men are willing to speak to anyone, even me. Back to you." Stevie Ray came in with an aggressive manner, trying to knock Disco down and reduce his speed... Hard to run fast when man is being stomped on the mat. But eventually, Disco got back to an even keel, and his extra speed and agility on his feet took its tool on Stevie, leaning up to the Chartbuster for another impressive win. Disco Inferno has developed very impressively these past few months. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW Television Champion, Disco Inferno
Post match, as referee Mickey Jay hands Disco Inferno the WCW Television Championship, he holds it aloft, before dropping it down, and gazing at the gold face of it. He is given a microphone by David Penzer, and with a shortness of breath addresses the crowd. "You know," Disco Inferno begins. "I used to think life was all about jivin and groovin. Things were tough for me, I was an outcast. But then I became accepted, and I became accepted by you... by you... BY YOU! BY ALL OF YOU! And the reason I became accepted is because you knew how hard I was trying. And then I showed the world that hard work and dedication does pay off, when I won this beautiful gold Championship belt off Eddie Guerrero. And I learned something. I learned what it is to be a man. I learned what it is to be a Champion. I learned to be a great Champion it's not simply about having your name on the name plate. It's about representing. It's about representing you... and you... AND YOU! ALL OF YOU!" A small 'Disco! Disco! Disco!' chant begins, as Disco raises the Championship belt to acknowledge the crowd, and sucks up another big breath as he recovers from the trauma of another physical bout. "Each and every night, from Indianapolis, Indiana, to Memphis, Tennessee, I have bled, I have sweated, and I have endured what is it to be a great fighting Champion. And tonight, was no different. Tonight I faced a man who had been there before, and so desperately wanted to jive again at the top of the tree. But he's not the only one, and for me to sit here, while the WCW Executive Committee try to force me to sign a contract for a one on one match at World War III, and just accept it... That's not being a great Champion, and it's not fair to you... to you over there... to you up there... To every... SINGLE... one of YOU! The people that I represent every televised show. You see, that'd be the easy way out. That'd put things in my favour. But a Champion has to make things... Great. A Champion has to take the belt to the next... Level. A Champion has to be able to defy the odds. So JJ, Doctor Harvey, all you boys in the back... Basically you can kiss my [BEEP] and the [BEEP] of every single member of this crowd, because at World War III, at Washington DC, I'm putting this.. THIS! My Championship! MY CHAMPIONSHIP! On the line against three men. Yeah you heard me. I'm putting it on the line against Eddie Guerrero because he deserves it as one of the greatest Television Champions of all time! Yeah, Eddie, you tried to dupe me, and you tried to avoid me. But eventually, you had to pay the piper, dude. The next man I'm inviting... Raven! Yeah! That's right! Groovy! You see, he's the man who typifies fighting for everything you're worth. He's come from the hard streets and takes nothing for granted." Disco Inferno turns to Kimberly Page, who nods, before blowing him a kiss. "And finally, the last man.... Just to see the look on your face when I walk down the aisle with your ex-wife... AND OH YEAH! I've shown her my disco balls up HIGH and down LOW... And for her to see just what kind of loser you really are. So Diamond Dallas Page, strap your knee pads on pal, because I'm Chartbusting you back to Atlanta and back. Thank you and goodnight Indianapolis!" Disco holds up the belt, as we fade to a break. ------------------------------- After the break, we go straight to the back, where 'Dog Faced Gremlin' Rick Steiner is in the Steiner's dog-cage dressing room with Scott Steiner. "Where the hell were you?" Rick asks. "I was out there because you have this problem with him, and there I was copping it, and what were you doing?" "You don't know what I was doing huh?" Scott asks as he gets in his brother's face. "Sounds to me like you've got a trust problem." "Maybe I do, man. I mean, I needed your help..." "I thought you were your own man?" "What are you trying to say?" Rick asks. Scott looks at his brother, before shaking his head, "Forget it. I'm sorry." Los Vengadores had no answer to the constant ability of Dean Malenko to counter everything and turn every situation into his advantage. And eventually, despite a couple of brief momentary comebacks, Jushin Lyger was able to wrap up a comfortable win with the Brainbuster on Lizmark Jr. Result: Your winners, Jushin Lyger and Dean Malenko
Backstage, Raven enters the dressing room of 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero. "Esse!" Guerrero says, as he puts out his right hand to shake the hand of Raven, a man who he has teamed with successfully over these past weeks. "Eddie, did you see what just happened?" Raven asks. "Of course I did, holmes. It's all good, you know I have your back," Guerrero confirms. "Oh I know. I just wanted to come in here and say I think out of respect for the belt, we should accept the challenge. And we should fight it out like a death match, no holds barred, giving every drop of blood out of respect for one another for a shot at the WCW Television Championship." "No flies on me, holmes, no flies on me..." Raven and Guerrero nod in acknowledgement as we fade to the dressing room of Disco Inferno. -------------------------------- "I can't wait to see the look in his face," Disco Inferno says with a childlike enthusiasm. Angle and Raven had a lot of good chemistry and the match flowed very well. There was a lot slick counters and near falls, and a couple of great chain wrestling spots intermingled with some hardcore action outside the ring. BANG! What was that? It was 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero who raced down to the ring and smashed the steel chair over the back of the head of Raven. Angle tried to cover, but somehow Raven was aloof enough to get his foot on the rope. Guerrero was horrified, but was threatened to go back by the referee. Angle took control from here, with his balance dazed and his mind not focused, it was hard for Raven to compete against a talent like Angle. Angle signalled that he was going for his Olympic Slam, but Raven wriggled free, grabbed Angle by the neck.... EVENFLOW! Guerrero who was halfway up the ramp, could not believe it as Raven somehow still got the pinfall. Result: Your winner, Raven
"What lengths will Guerrero stop at?" Tony Schiavone asks. "None, he's a champion, and a great athlete," Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan says. "How is that being a champion, Bobby?" "Simple, it's not about how you win, it's whether you do win that takes you to the pay window," Heenan says. "I don't expect hameneggers like you to understand that though." ---------------------------------- Backstage, in the nWo dressing room, 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash turns off the television screen and turns to the locker room. 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page, Vincent, Buff 'The Stuff' Bagwell, WCW World Heavyweight Champion 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho, Curt Hennig, 'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz and 'K-Dawg' Konnan sit reading magazines and relaxing in general. "THAT's why, Dallas," Nash says. "That's why I Jack-knifed him. You know why? Because he's a snake. That coulda been you Page. It could have been us. He'll destroy anyone and anything to get to the top. Including the nWo." Nash slams the remote control to the ground in anger, as he shakes his head and storms out. There was a lot of interest in how Goldberg and Benoit would handle themselves, and this almost held the control of Ric Flair as he tried to manage the rebellious two, which gave some tremendous early opportunities for Steven Regal to take advantage of, nearly scoring a couple of quick pinfall victories. But for the minute or two Benoit and Goldberg had to be focussed, they were brilliant. Goldberg ended up taking Finlay down town with the Jackhammer to win the match for his team. However, if only it was that simple. You see, leading into the Jackhammer, Chris Benoit had taken control of Finlay, and went to the top looking for the Diving Headbutt. Goldberg though took advantage and slapped Benoit on the back, orchestrating a blind tag to take advantage of his good work. Result: Your winners, Ric Flair, Chris Benoit and Bill Goldberg
As 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair and his two comrads Bill Goldberg and 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit had their arms held aloft, the darks dimmed, and then faded out. When the lights came back on, a man in all black was seen slipping back through the curtain... with Ric Flair laid out in the middle of the ring. "Was tha.. Wa .. No way, that..," Tony Schiavone stymied. "Was that him?" "Was that who?" Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan asked. "The mystery man?" "I don't want to spoil the mystery for you Tony, I can see you're having a lot of fun with it." "Bu.. Bu... But, I ... I just don't get it." "Look hamenegger, did I tell you it was Solomey Ottaban's daughter who was the murderer on Death on the Nile?" "It wasn't though.." "Exactly. Nothing's as obvious as it seems, Tony, now, order me a coke and let's get on with the next match!" The answer was no. Despite some damaging snap quicks, the Great Muta was a long shot here, and the Giant ended up dominating ending it with the Chokeslam. Result: Your winner, The Giant
"Who on earth can stop this man?" Tony Schiavone asked. "Muta is a Japanese legend.." "Yeah, well he's sushi now," Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan responded. "Hi guys," the familiar voice of 'Iron' Mike Tenay said as we heard a set of headphones fumbling around. "Professor Mike Tenay, welcome to WCW Monday Nitro, the greatest show of all time," Tony Schiavone announces. "Now, I believe you have some news on some of the other competitors that we can expect to see at World War III." "That's right Tony, World War III promises to be a wild night. An international extravaganza. Earlier this evening I was fortunate enough to present you with some comments from Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine, 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton, 'Sweet' Stan Lane and the Honky Tonk Man, all who will vye for their last opportunity at a golden pay day. But beyond the nostalgia, beyond the last chance saloon legends, next Sunday is truly a global fiesta of wrestling brilliance. Join me this week on WCW Saturday Night as I take a more in depth look at each of these men, but guys... firstly, I want you to grab pen and paper, and take down some of these names, because some of these guys have what it takes to go all the way, and excite the living hell out of wrestling fans around the world. From our connections in Japan, we have been fortunate enough to grab MAGNUM Tokyo and Shinjiro Otani. And I want to focus on Shinjiro Otani, because long time fans of WCW will remember Shinjiro as a former WCW Cruiserweight Champion. And south of the border, our latino fans will be glad to know that we have secured the talents of a virtual whose who of lucha libre excellence. We have Latin Lover, Super Calo, Silver King, El Dandy, Vampiro, Villano IV, Damien 666 and Octagon. Fans will be familiar with Super Calo, Silver King, El Dandy, Villano IV and Damien 666 who have all appeared on our broadcasts previously particularly in lucha libre six man tag action, perhaps the most exciting match on the planet today, but one man who I am pleased to bring to you this coming Sunday is Octagon. While he may be small, at Rey Mysterio Jr type proportions, he is one of the sharpest kickers you will ever see. Before Octagon was a professional wrestling superstar, he had earned himself a black belt. He's slightly different than some of the other lucha libres in that he's a submission specialist, and any man who falls prey to to the La Escarela is sure to know it." "Sounds like some great competition there Mike," Schiavone comments. "I don't think I've ever been so excited for a night of professional wrestling as I am for this coming Sunday, Tony."
'Macho Man' Randy Savage and Sting v WCW World Heavyweight Champion 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho and 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page This was a very terse match. The masters of in ring psychology, the lot of 'em, hammed it up for the crowd. A great wrestler knows how to get a massive reaction from something small, and the heels, from Jericho to Page, and even the tweening Savage got some great heel reactions from this crowd. The underdog here was clearly Sting, even though he was officially teaming with Savage, you could have sworn Savage was on the other side. And Sting played it for all it's worth, taking an enormous beating to the point where Tony Schiavone wondered how Sting would be able to make it to World War III. Bobby Heenan said that this was a plan, as Savage was clearly not interested in the match benig a three way dance. But despite Savage's lack of assistance, he started fighting back, elbowing his way out of a sleeper hold after his arm dropped for the second time, and performing the usual face fight back to the chants of the crowd. He then went for a typical fist fight spot, where the face overcame the cheating heel, before rolling Page into the ropes and dropping him with a cross body block. Page got up... into the corner. STINGER SPLASH! And again, STINGER SPLASH! Page was wobbly... SCORPION DEATH DROP! In came Jericho, and Sting drop kicked him over the top rope. Sting then covered Page...1..2... No. What? Savage came in the ring and picked up Sting... DDT! Savage to the top... Elbow Drop! I can't... I can'.. No... this can't be true. He's rolling his arch nemesis Diamond Dallas Page over the top of Sting, man, he must really hate the Stinger...1.....2......3. Result: Your winners, Chris Jericho and Diamond Dallas Page
'Macho Man' Randy Savage picked up Sting, and directed him into the ropes, but Sting came back and ducked the clothesline from Savage and hit him with a cross body block. He then picked up Savage with a gorilla press... and threw him over the top rope and into 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho who was only just getting up! Sting taunted the both of them as we faded to black.
Wow, thanks for your in depth views on things. It really helps to get the feedback that I get because it helps craft the show. The story is written out already, but it helps I guess push some of the tact the way you guys, the fans, need it to be to be a part of it. It's very important to me. --------------------- I thoroughly enjoyed the last show, from a writing perspective. I'm surprised how important to me Mike Tenay has become. In retrospect, he was to me when I watched it too, as he was the one who helped paint the picture of just how unique the lucha libre lifestyle and match styles were. I kind of feel the words that you see towards the end of the show from Mike are ... well, from me. I am, like Mike, genuinely excited about the prospect of a multicultural multi-faceted World War III. I really love that type of match because so much can come from it. It's a little like football, 90 minutes of 90 different emotions. So in that aspect, I consider that show my Christmas gift to you all, and in actual fact, it's a Christmas gift to me because of how much I enjoyed putting it together. These last couple of months in all honesty have been the most enjoyable times in my diary writing time, and its been important to me, because I've had some things go wrong from time to time and this has been a really good outlet to laugh a bit, and experience the fantasy I had with WCW wrestling. I can't believe we're up to something like 933 replies, what an incredible buzz that gives me! So from my family to all of you, merry christmas! And please, keep safe. WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Ultimo Dragon (c) v Chavo Guerrero v Hector Garza Oh how I miss the cruiserweight division and the mulitple man matches for the title. WCW Television Championship: Disco Inferno (c) v Yuji Nagata we''ll say Disco retains, but I'm sure DDP will be around somewhere. Lance Storm v Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger This match is brilliant, which I could really see if even today at their ages. 'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz v 'Your Olympic Hero' Kurt Angle Seen it in real life, but Angle wasn't the complete rookie he was here. WCW United States Championship: 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit (c) v Billy Kidman I don't put Kidman on Benoit's level in any part of either one's careers. The Extreme Innovators ('The Innovator of Offence' Chris Kanyon and Perry Saturn) v Harlem Heat v The Steiner Brothers Another great thing about WCW....TAG TEAM WRESTLING...STeiner's were at the top of their game here 'Total Package' Lex Luger v Bill Goldberg Despite being an actual competitor to Goldberg, I dont see Lex taking it

Prologue: Sorry for the delay, I got Nintendo Wii for my birthday and some more games for Chrissie... man, I LLLOOVVVEEE that thing. Anyway, as Freddie M once sang, the Show Must Go On, so here it is. The go-home show before World War III. At the top of the show, live from Roanoke, Virginia, a good ol' fashioned WCW town, after the blue pyros burst into the arena's ceiling, and we pan around to see a plethora of Four Horsemen signs, we hear the click of the hooves pound through the PA system, as 'The Enforcer' Arn Anderson leads out 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, 'The Man of 1000 Holds' Dean Malenko, Bill Goldberg and WCW United States Champion 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit, the Four Horsemen gain is here tonight, and here they all are! Flair is in a red sequined robe, while the other Horsemen are decked out in jeans and a variety of merchandise sellers, otherwise known as t-shirts. Malenko is wearing his official Iceman t-shirt, Goldberg is wearing a 'Streak' t-shirt, and Benoit is wearing a shirt that reads 'I make them tap more than Fred Astaire'. Once in the ring, the group appear harmonious as Arn Anderson waits for a rousing Four Horsemen chant to begin to die down before raising his microphone, and addressing this raucous crowd. "I have said it time and time again, Roanoke Virginia is Four Horsemen country!" The crowd react extremely positively as Anderson corrects his glasses, before raising the microphone again. "That's right, unless there's 15,000 people in here tonight missing a thumb, when I look out there to all you I know this is... Horsemen country! The New World Order say they know how to bring us down, but we've learned a few things already these past few weeks as well. We've learned not all is well with Big Kev and Hall, we've seen one or two things that have twitched our mind that maybe, just maybe, there's treachory at foot, but most of it, we've learned that within our own camp that when the chips are down and the world tries to turn us against each other for greed, we learn that integrity, honour, guts and glory always come back to the threshold. Eric Bischoff, we don't give a ...." he drops the microphone for a second and smiles, before shaking his head and raising the microphone again, "what you have to say. You know what I mean. Two or three weeks ago, you told my men here Goldberg and Benoit that they would have to face each other at World War III for a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, or, alternately, this man, Benoit, could turn on the Four Horsemen and join the New World Order for an easy shot at glory." Anderson turns to Benoit, and looks him dead in the eye. "But when I look at you Chris Benoit, I don't see a traitor, I don't see a coward, I don't see someone who will sacrifice all that is necessary to restore the values of professional wrestling that these fans so desperately want... No, I all I see is a champion, someone who is willing to fight for what is right. And Chris, Bill, it's my firm estimation that at World War III, you two are going to tear the house down. Oh, oh, I forgot," he taps his hand on his head, "They accuse me of having a touch of alzheimers, but... here goes." Anderson pulls out a crumpled piece of paper from his jean pocket, and raises it, focusing on the sheet of paper. "Bischoff! Should Chris Jericho get through the lamb to the slaughter routine your Executive Committee boys have put up to him, and he has to face either Benoit or Goldberg at Starrcade, let me ... wait a second. This here, this is quite interesting. You see, this here is signed by one Robert... Edward... Turner the third, whose that you ask?.." Meanwhile, 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff walks out from the Turner Tron, and as the cameras get in his face, you can hear him calling out to cut off Arn's microphone. "You want to cut me off? Well, if I'm not mistaken, Ted Turner is your boss, and he says I can continue. So why don't you grab a coke and a smile, and listen to what I got to say. Because it's quite simple. At Starrcade, Eric, should Chris Jericho survive World War III, the match at Starrcade takes on extra special precedence. Why, you ask? You see, this contract simply states that at Starrcade, the match, should it be between a Four Horsemen and a New World Order member will invalidate the losing group. So, what that means is this. Should one of my men defeat Jericho at Starrcade, the New World Order is.... history. As far as we go, why don't you tell 'em, Ric?" 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair grabs the microphone from Anderson and addresses Bischoff. "Did somebody tell me .... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... that the Horsemen would be here to party in ROANOKE VIRGINIAAAAA? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Is it true Arn Anderson?" Anderson nods and pats Flair on the shoulders, a very fired up Flair. "And is it also true Arn Anderson that you want me to tell you... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What this contract means for the Four Horsemen? You think this worries us, Arn? This match is on OUR terms. One on one! No interference allowed, for if anyone does... they're FIRED! What are you going to do, Eric? Fire me... I'm already fired! Fire me? I'M ALREADY FIRED! As far as if something should go wrong and we lose, you've already told me to kill the Horsemen, but we're still standing, Eric. So the question is this, you low life coward. Despite everything you've thrown at us from threatening to sue me, to firing me, to trying to break Arn Anderson's neck, to terrorising the commentators, to snapping Mean BY GOD WOOOOOOOOOOOOO Gene in half, to throwing Rey Mysterio Jr head first into a production truck, to getting cowards like Bagwell to turn on his closest friend in Riggs... You've done it all already pal! But we're still standing! You see, Eric, as much as you're going to hate this, in professional wrestling it all boils down to one thing. It all boils down to integrity. It all boils down to Championship glory. It all boils down to honour. It all boils down to the commonly held fact that to be the man... You've got to BEAT the MAN! You can short change the world of wrestling as much as you want, but nothing has changed in a hundred years brother... why? Because that's tradition! And that's what the Horsemen have ALWAYS stood for. You see Eric, diamonds are forever... and so are the Four Horsemen!" Flair struts and points out at Bischoff, who stands up the aisle mesmorised and shell shocked. Anderson takes the microphone back. "Eric Bischoff, I could have slugged you in the mouth at any time, but come this Sunday, when Ric here beats whatever man you put in front of him, we'll get our chance. We could have taken a short cut like you, but we're a thinking man's organisation unlike that pack of sheep you like to call the New World Order. We pick our spots and we calculate, and we know World War III is going to be a success. Now, Chris, Bill, this coming Sunday, the true matter at hand is which one of you fine gentlemen is going to come out on top. Firstly, you, Bill. You're a fine athlete, and for any man to be undefeated after 178 matches ... that's ... that's incredible. But you know, if you should lose this coming Sunday, don't think that makes you any less of a man. Because you see, this sport is the toughest sport known to man. Just over twelve months ago, when I was working out in the gym I felt a sharp twinge in my neck. And what happened was I simply couldn't even pick up the glass in my hand, because of the loss of control in my nerves and muscles. Why? Because I'd been beaten by the best of them night in, night out, for fifteen, twenty years. The human body is fragile, and the true testament of a Champion is to take all the punishment and all the emotional betrayal and disappointment and come back a bigger and better man. What you've achieved is nothing short of a sensation. I've never seen anything like that in all the years I've been in this sport. Sooner or later, the monkey off your back drops and that loss column fills with one...then two... maybe even three, but you are already a Champion, you are a legendary Horsemen, and Bill, it's been my honour supporting you through to this moment when you potentially become the greatest superstar in all of professional sports. That is, should you beat Chris this Sunday. But Bill, this man next to you is the greatest technical wrestler known to man. He's wrestled all over the world, made men pass out from the brutality of the pain. Many men call him the second coming of the Dynamite Kid, but if I knew better Chris you've got a lot of Ric Flair in you. And that my friend, is an honour. Because Ric's often been imitated but never duplicated. You don't look to imitate him, you are your own man, and your run as the WCW United States Champion is undisputed, it's a legend in itself. One way or the other, either the most powerful man in professional sports or the greatest technician perhaps in the history of this sport goes through to face the World Heavyweight Champion at Starrcade, whoever that shall be. And that's what being a Horsemen is about. It's about tradition, its about integrity, its about honour, its about passion, and it's about turning a fable into a true to life legend. And what I gain from all this, as I stand in the ring, looking in your eyes, both of you, is simple. When I look into your eyes I see... Champions. I'm going to leave you with one request. Come Sunday night, when your careers take the next step, remember the Horsemen. Remember what we've fought for. And remember the values for which you stand for. There's going to be thirty to forty thousand people rammed into that arena, millions watching around the world... and there has to be a winner. There has to be a new legend. And the only way a legend is born is by fighting all the elements... Fighting the gravest fight of their lives. And there's no graver fighter than fighting your own best friend. We all have to do it, even I had to face Ric once upon a time. It's what makes you a man. What makes you a legend though is how you carry your values. What makes you a leg.." "Hold on!" Finally 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff has a microphone presented to him by a member of production. "You know what Arn, I have a feeling Bill Goldberg may not even make it to World War III." "Is that a fact?" Anderson queries. "You're damn right, because you say you're fighting champions, do you not?" "Yes, yes we are." "Good.. because there's a man backstage who some people think has been forgotten. And this man wants revenge for that. And he's got an offer. Should he gain a victory tonight, I'm granting him direct entry into the main event at Starrcade. So Bill Goldberg, tonight... you're facing... LEX LUGER!" Anderson looks on shocked, as Bischoff smiles, as we head to our first break of the evening. --------------------------------- After the break, a series of cutaways from sit down interviews with Raven, 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page, 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero and WCW Television Champion Disco Inferno is featured. These four men will face up in a four corners match for the WCW Television Championship this coming Sunday at World War III. "I want to be known as a great fighting champion like Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat," Disco Inferno says. ... "It's going to be the hardest fight of my professional career," Raven says. "Three tough competitors, anything can happen. It's a belt that you want to hold, because guys like Arn Anderson have held it." ... "It's crucial to the New World Order," says Diamond Dallas Page. "It ensures every night on Nitro and Thunder that the New World Order has Championship representation. It gives us a voice. You have to be tough, strong like Jos Le Duc or Greg Valentine, great Champions." ... "I want revenge esse," Eddie Guerrero says. "Nothing hurts me more than losing my Championship. It meant so much esse to see my name alongside Tully Blanchard, Dusty Rhodes, Sting, Bobby Eaton, and Ivan Koloff...." ... "Watching Disco night after night have his head bounce back," Kimberly Page says as she shakes her head slowly as a tear fills in her right eye, "It's so hard to do. But it's a great legacy and something to be proud of." ... "It's for ultimate glory," Disco says. ... "It's for a shot at glory," Raven says. ... "It's a shot at redeeming glory," Eddie says. ... "It's a shot at continual glory," Page says. ... "I'd do anything to win," Disco says. ... "I'd give anything to win," Raven says. ... "I'd give it all," Eddie says. ... "I will give it all," Page says. Not a throw-away three way Cruiserweight match by any stretch of the imagination as in the ring was one half of the tag team champions, himself a second generation superstar. It was a quick match, but the difference essentially was that Ultimo Dragon's vicious Dragon Sleeper was such a quick and decisive finisher that he was able to take a major momentum shift, which all three wrestlers had, and finish the match quickly to retain. Hector Garza was the unfortunate recipient after a typical lucha spot had threatened to see Chavo Guerrero Jr hit the Tornado DDT, only for Hector Garza to drop his feet from under him and crown him on the top rope. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Ultimo Dragon
Backstage, Miss Elizabeth is sitting with a scared look on her face as in front of her, in their dressing room 'Macho Man' Randy Savage paces backwards and forth like a possessed mad man ahead of his WCW World Heavyweight Championship match with Champion 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho and Sting at World War III. "This...this isn't you!" She screams. He menacingly gets in her face. "Either you're with me or you're against me... yeah. Nothing comes between me and the Championship. Not you, not Jericho, not Sting. Yeah... no-THING!" She looks shocked as his eyes bulge in his skull, before we fade out of this terrifying scene which demonstrates the sheer tenacity and parasitic caustic attitude of Randy Savage at it's worst.
WCW Television Championship Disco Inferno (c) v Yuji Nagata Nagata came with a series of quick stiff shots, but Disco Inferno must go down as the most improved member of the WCW roster year to date, and his form was impregnable again tonight, as he quickly hit the Chartbuster for a good win. Result: Your winner, and STILL WCW Television Champion, Disco Inferno
"Another good win for Disco Inferno, and what a challenge he now faces this coming Sunday at World War III, every bruise, every fracture, every twinge he has picked up from defending the belt from all challengers all across the world here on Nitro and Thunder on every broadcast now catches up with him before he faces Raven, Eddie Guerrero and Diamond Dallas Page, what a challenge!" 'Iron' Mike Tenay says from commentary. "Speaking of challenges, how do you prepare for a man you don't know, with your career on the line? That's the challenge that faces 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair for this coming Sunday at World War III. Over 25 years of wrestling excellence, and it could all be taken away this coming Sunday." "The biggest moment of his career, ahead of even the sixteen times he's climbed the pedestal to become World Heavyweight Champion is this Sunday, Mike," 'Living Legend' Larry Zbysko comments. "It's his moment of fate, it's like waiting for the ultimate judgement. For when he looks up the aisle, he will see his destiny step forward to face him in the ultimate challenge." "It sure promises to be a great challenge, and for all the Ric Flair fans out there all across the world, make sure you do not miss out on World War III because it perhaps shapes up as the last great dance by this sixteen time World Heavyweight Champion. You will see history at World War III, one way or the other," Tenay promises. However, right in the middle of the match, we cut straight to the back unannounced causing confusion to the commentators who were not expecting it, what the hell was that? Someone just clubbed 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair. Who was that? I .. I didn't see. Flair is down! What was he doing alone? Was that.. Was that the ... no, couldn't have been the mystery man, was it? When they came back, Jushin Lyger had gained control and had gone up to the top looking for a... Moonsault! Into a cover....that's it! Result: Your winner, Jushin Lyger
Straight after the match we cut to the back where 'The Enforcer' Arn Anderson runs over to the scene which sees 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair lying unconcious face first on the unforgiving cement of the backstage hallways. "GET HELP!" Lenny Lane and Lodi, who are standing by immediately come to Flair's aid, and try to stabilise his neck and keep him comfortable. "HURRY! WE NEED HELP!" Anderson shouts out. Lizmark Jr and Villano IV run down the hall to find EMTs, who are found and and are rushed to the scene, as one of the EMTs arrive they accidentally kick over a can of Budweiser beer that was half drunk on the floor. Meanwhile, around the corner we can see 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff snickering. "It's all coming together perfectly," he laughs, as the medicos frenetically move to stabilise the neck of Flair. And when he's in this mood he's pretty much impossible to stop. Unfortunately for Angle, despite an attempt at a comeback, it was futile and he too, like many others before him, fell prey to the Tazmission. Result: Your winner, Taz
After the match, 'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz picked up 'Your Olympic Hero' Kurt Angle, and in a release suplex catapulted Angle back across the ring. He then took a microphone from David Penzer and stood over the fallen corpse of Kurt Angle. "Shut the [BEEP] up, listen up and listen good," Taz says. "Nothing but no-one can stop me. I said it when I came here, and I'm still undefeated. None of the chumps back there can beat me. Sunday night's the night, Sunday night's the night, brother. In a short while... you're all gonna tap in mercy before I choke the [BEEP] out of you. You keep throwing them out at me, brother, like this man here, a mere Olympic Gold medalist. Where's the challenger, brother? Whose gonna stop me? Whose gonna go far enough brother, whose gonna go far enough and risk being choked out? Whose it gonna be? Scott Steiner? I'm calling you out brother, you're my target brother. One way or the other, I will get you in the middle of the ring eventually brother. That's not a warning, it is somewhat of a threat, but brother, you can definitely call it a promise! Beat me if you can Steiner, survive... if I let you!" Sorry for not getting predictions in, was away. Loved the show though, was some great stuff. Really enjoyed the opening segment, but the whole "who attacked Flair" thing was great. You are pushing so hard at hinting it is Stone Cold I feel it has to be a swerve. Loving it though. WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Ultimo Dragon (c) v Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger Either man could win it, really Ladder Match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr (c) v Thrillapalooza (Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn) Rey & Chavo have been great champions, but I feel like a classic ladder match (and this would be an all time classic) could be a great way to get over new champions WCW Television Championship: Disco Inferno (c) v 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page v Raven v 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero I love how important you are making the TV Title seem. Bookers in real life seem to ignore how powerful a title belt can be. If you promote a belt properly it gives you a reason to watch, a reason for people to fight, and the way the TV Title is being put over is brilliant. With that said, I think Disco will retain as I think the other three are too over for the belt and they don't need it WCW United States Championship - For a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade: 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit (c) v Bill Goldberg Hmm... this is a toughie. If you go with US Champion vs WCW Champion at Starrcade, which would be pretty sweet, then that sounds cool but you will be missing out on a brilliant US Title match for Benoit at the grandaddy of them all. So I'm a bit torn on this one. I'm sure Goldberg will win the belt at Starrcade (I think 10 years haven't been kind to peoples memory just how over Goldberg was, I reckon in '98 it was pretty close between him and Austin) so he has to win the belt at the big one, but I don't know where that leaves Benoit For Ric Flair's career termination or for Flair to gain a shot at 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff at Starrcade: 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair v A Mystery Opponent I'm going to guess the mystery opponent wins but Flair finds a way to face Bischoff anyway. The mystery opponent thing has been handled really well, and it helps that we can't see what is happening with WWF so don't know who has been missing from their shows (whch might give it away). I don't think it's Austin as that seems too obvious, so I'm guessing it is one of Undertaker or Foley, as that would be huge (and Foley would be a great person to put up against Flair because of the hatred and promos that could follow), however, I've got a feeling it will be Shawn Michaels or Owen Hart, because... World War III: 60 Man over the top rope Battle Royal - Bret Hart ... I've got Bret to win this, leaving Bret free for a Starrcade match (if he doesn't face Davey Boy Smith) and the 'mystery opponent' free for a match at Starrcade... Michaels vs Bret, or Bret vs Owen! How sweet would that be?! Incidentally, I reckon Bret will win simply because he needs to keep looking good while he's kind of between anything important at the moment. WCW World Heavyweight Championship: 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho (c) v 'Macho Man' Randy Savage v Sting Jericho has been looking too good to drop the title anywhere except Starrcade, in the main event, against Goldberg, with the Horsemen overcoming the nWo Should be a brilliant show, it honestly looks so good.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Ultimo Dragon (c) v Jushin 'Thunder' Lyger We don't seem to get very long reigns in this division so I think Lyger will regain the belt here and defend in a multiple man ladder match at Starrcade which would be really something. Ladder Match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship: Rey Mysterio Jr and Chavo Guerrero Jr (c) v Thrillapalooza (Billy Kidman and Jerry Lynn) I'd like to see a title change here which would allow Rey and maybe Chavo to move onto something else although a rematch at Starrcade wouldn't be too bad. WCW Television Championship: Disco Inferno (c) v 'The Master of the Diamond Cutter' Diamond Dallas Page v Raven v 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero Perfect scenario for Disco to steal a quick roll up while two other guys are battling it out. WCW United States Championship - For a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade: 'Rabid Wolverine' Chris Benoit (c) v Bill Goldberg Such an intriguing match and the way you've built it up has been even better. This is a main event match right here which just shows how strong this card is. I think Goldberg is the one to go over would I could also see a Benoit shock. Maybe a triple threat at Starrcade. For Ric Flair's career termination or for Flair to gain a shot at 'Easy E' Eric Bischoff at Starrcade: 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair v A Mystery Opponent Despite all sorts of interventions from the nWo, Flair manages to overcome the mystery man and go onto to get his hands on Bischoff at Starrcade, something the world has been waiting for. World War III: 60 Man over the top rope Battle Royal - Combatants listed below: The Giant He's been booked very strongly heading into this and even though we get the same every year from the E, big man in the Rumble automatically means they'll win according to the commentators, I think The Giant will actually win this one. WCW World Heavyweight Championship: 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho (c) v 'Macho Man' Randy Savage v Sting Jericho will lose the belt to Goldberg at Starrcade after really establishing himself as one of the top draws in the company. Who needs Hogan when you have Jericho? Just hurry up and get this masterpiece up is all I have to say.

The raw emotion of the week leading into World War III brings out the best, and worst of people. From vibrant fans, to opinionated commentators, but none of those attitudes, mis-perceptions or emotional instabilities compares to the emotions of these souped up rampant heroes here within World Championship Wrestling's locker room. In just over twenty four hours, sixty of the best from around the world gather in the biggest human devouring known to man. In World Championship Wrestling there's no two minute warnings, there's no battle-royal one on ones, there's no fluke lottery win that gives the competitor a chance to come in last after most of the roster has been eliminated, here it's all on all, sixty men in the ring at once. It still is a game of human chess as some of the more feeble but smarter minds try and stay away from the action and perform hit and run missions staying out of way, whereas the likes of the Giant will attempt to clear out half the roster on his own through sheer brutality. What can we expect from it all? An oriental mysting? A competitor losing a grand opportunity at the expense of another's envy? A wrestler miraculously holding onto the top rope with his feet perilously close to the floor before hauling himself back in? Or a double elimination at the exact same moment causing consternation as to who actually won the fabled match? The fact of the matter is we should expect everything and nothing all at once. For there is no doubt that this match will open up more questions than answers, will rivet the fans from start to finish with sheer audacity and athletic ingenuity, yet the truth of the matter is we can only expect the unexpected as due to the sheer amount of superstars all in the ring at the one time, with all the varied emotions and motives that anything can and will happen. But World War III shapes as much more than all this. It shapes as potentially the end of 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair's career. And over this past week I had the great opportunity to talk to those who know Ric Flair best. "I can't imagine him not wrestling," said his former valet, Woman. "I can't imagine him not standing under the stage lights, with a woman on each arm, in his fine custom made sequined robe, with twenty thousand people night in night out screaming his name or screaming for his head." It was one of the most important comments I think I have heard on the Ric Flair predicament. The truth of the matter is World Championship Wrestling would not be the same without him and I am quite sure Ric Flair would not be the same without World Championship Wrestling. There is a mystique that surrounds the two and joins them together, and despite so much friction and tension Ric is still here, at least until tomorrow night. "He's been through it all," former Four Horsemen Ole Anderson said to me. "They've let him go before, he even took that big gold belt, he's faced them all, he's had Bischoff basically fire 'em, but man, he still keeps coming back like the Horsemen he is. I don't think anyone could ever realise the torment of the relationship between WCW and Flair, but I don't think anyone doubts just how much they have needed one another. To me, back in those days when it all went down first time with Jim [Herd] it was like watching a trial separation go horribly wrong, yet despite all the anxiety they found out they thrived off each other." Indeed Ric Flair's career has not been all glamour and glitz. It hasn't been all about sequined robes and hot women. It hasn't even been about the jet's he's flown in or the limousine's he's rode in, there has pain, torment, anguish, betrayal interspersed all the way through. You could combine Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, John Steinbeck and Charles Dickens together, and mix in a touch of Shakespeare for good measure and you could not come close to creating the fragility and despair, and ultimate accomplishment in the face of adversity in fiction as to what has really transpired in the life and career of Ric Flair. Some of the facts that shape up the school of hard knocks that is Ric Flair's life are: * Ric Flair was adopted and never knew his biological parents * In 1975, Ric Flair was involved in a serious plane accident. His back was broken in three places and he was subsequently told by doctors he would never wrestle again. After six months of intensive treatment, Ric Flair returned to professional wrestling against all odds. How devastating was the crash really? The pilot did not survive, Johnny Valentine would never wrestle again and Austin Idol nearly did not wrestle again due to not wearing shoes and suffering horrendous feet injuries. * In 1991, Jim Herd, head of World Championship Wrestling at the time, tried to force Ric Flair into a substantial pay cut and asked him to wrestle under the moniker 'Sparticus.' Flair refused both, and left for the World Wrestling Federation, with World Championship Wrestling's Heavyweight Championship belt which he was the current holder of legally due to him having a refundable deposit on the Championship title itself. * In the last few years, Ric Flair has seen it all. Including being threatened with contractual termination after he failed to show at a house show. Ric claims he had taken leave and this was well known to support his son's amateur wrestling high school competition, but this was not acknowledged by the brass within World Championship Wrestling. "It's fair to say he's seen it all," his old arch nemesis Harley Race said. "Despite all that, what a career he has had! For a man who was supposed to be finished what 23 years ago, to still be going? Amazing. That's tough. For anyone who ever doubts how tough this business is, just look at Ric Flair. Near on thirty years, broken back and all, political controversies, physical pain like you could never ever begin to believe, and he's still going. Tough is the word to describe him." You certainly have to be tough to climb Space Mountain as often as Ric has done. Ric has won either the National Wrestling Alliance, World Wrestling Federation or World Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championships a phenomenal sixteen times. "The only things that come to mind to compare are Jerry Lawler with 52 Southern Heavyweight Championships, albeit at a far lower level than that of Ric Flair's World Heavyweight Championships, and Ultimo Dragon once holding nine Championships from all around the world, but they were not World Heavyweight Championships," wcw.com anaylst Scott Hudson states. "If you want to look up the other comparable superstars of Ric Flair's time, and I say time because frankly this man has transcended eras, you've got Harley Race, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Dusty Rhodes, Bret Hart and Sting. A hell of a strong list. Race has won 8 World Heavyweight Championships, Dusty Rhodes has won three, Hogan has won nine, Macho Man has five of them, Stinger has got four of them and the Hitman has won five times. Sixteen times! Sixteen, can you believe that? Incredible. And the thing with Flair is this, despite the massive back injury, night after night you can expect him to walk the aisle and give his all, and still all these years on be the centre of the attention for the fans, not because of nostalgia, but because he's that damn good at telling a story. I for one hope this is not the end of the Nature Boy." And that is a sentiment that transcends the World Championship Wrestling dressing room. Over the years, Ric Flair has feuded with many great superstars from Wahoo McDaniel to Ricky Steamboat to Sting to Curt Hennig to Hulk Hogan, but amongst those in the current locker room area there isn't too many who can say a genuinely bad thing about Flair. There have been those who have gone onto other pastures who have had issues with Flair, but those that remain with the man in the number one company in the world know to be the man you have to be able to learn from this man. You only have to watch the career of Sting to know what this means. When Sting first met Ric Flair he had a lot of raw edges. After some of the classics Flair and Sting had, not only had Flair helped cement Sting as a global superstar but he had transformed him into the well rounded in ring perfectionist you see today. And there are many stories like that. "Flair puts [beep]s on seats, and he genuinely makes you a star," Scott Hudson said. "They said Dusty Rhodes could wrestle a broom handle and make it look real, and I'm sure the same applies with Ric. He is a wrestling icon, pure and simple. Forget the cliches, forget all the money the various companies spend to promote new talent, this guy is the real deal, and he'll sell himself and make his opponent look a million dollars. If you want to make a new star, don't go ordering marketing to do some promotional vignettes or give the guy thousands of hours on the microphone, give him twenty minutes with Flair. He is a genius." Yet for all the ingenuity attributed to Ric Flair, even he cannot figure out the riddle of who he faces at World War III. So many major names are locked under bolt and key to promotions around the world, and with the list issued by World Championship Wrestling there really isn't anyone on their roster available for tomorrow night. All this intrigue leaves Ric Flair with two questions he has never been forced to answer. Firstly, can he win to save his career. And secondly, just who is it that wants him gone so bad. His opponent is the one that should be worried though, for while some call them catchphrases, Ric Flair lives by it - to be the man, you've got to beat the man. The true question is, can anyone beat the man when he has so much riding on the line?
