Tradition Dictates That You Be Welcomed... To The Coastal Zone

Okay, after putting six hours into Guitar Hero: World Tour, I can safely say that 3 was the last good Guitar Hero game. Now it's just Rock Band: Not So Good Edition. But enough gaming talk; Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Also, on a more personal note: R.I.P. WizKids, LLC. A company that innovated, then expanded, then stagnated, then failed to innovate correctly. HeroClix shall be sorely missed... until it is purchased by Wizards of the Coast, or some other company. Jackpot Jordan is gone after we failed to give him a $300 raise, travel expenses, -and- a cut of merchandising. Which slightly screws out tag division... but only slightly. Maybe we can finally try to push Jared Johnson... again... CZCW Coastal Tour September 2012, week 3, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA We open with Lauren in the ring, mad at Sparrow for what he said last week; Machine comes out to start a fight, Phoenix is there to lend a hand, Sparrow is... yeah, it's a main-event set-up. (D+) OPENING MATCH Acid II def. Jared Johnson in ten minutes via Acid Rain Bomb (E+) Lauren cuts a promo on Matt, saying she wasn't there last week because she's got people outside the Zone who want to hire her... Matt's jealous he doesn't. (D+) SECOND MATCH: Xtreme Title Jonnie Perez (c) def. El Mitico Jr in twelve minutes via DQ when Acid runs in and chairs him (D) Acid then cuts a... well, I guess it's a promo, accepting Jonnie's open challenge (E+) THIRD MATCH Fox Force Five def. Kirk Jameson & Bobby Thomas in twelve minutes via Foxhunter (D+) Sparrow cuts a promo on Lauren (C-) MAIN EVENT Lauren & Phoenix def. Sparrow & Machine in twenty-eight minutes via Lauren Suplex (C+) Show rating: C- Hrm. Good main event, good enough to raise the show level high enough to work. Yeah, we'll have to re-use that main event next week... Hrm. Bobby Thomas played a prank on Kirk Jameson. What to do, what to do... Stern Warning it is, to start with. We love troublemakers. :) That's strike one... two to go! CZCW Coastal Tour September 2012, week 4, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA OPENING MATCH: Six-Man Scramble Capitao Brasil def. Justin Sentitive, Panda Mask II, Whippy the Clown, Geroge Wolfe, and Island Boy Apollo in thirteen minutes via submission on Panda Mask (D-) Backstage, we get an encounter between Matt and Lauren, filled with anger, harsh words, and some odd sexual tension (C-) SECOND MATCH Flying Jimmy foxx def. Kamikaze Christian Vars in nine minutes via pinfall (D-) We get another segment with Jonnie asking Acid why he had to accept with a chairshot, and Acid said he wants to make an impact (E+) THIRD MATCH: Tag Titles Remus & Patriot def. Team Lucha (c) in twenty minutes via pinfall (E, reused match too much) The winners celebrate afterwards (D) MAIN EVENT Marrow, Perez & Machine def. Lauren, Acid & Fox Mask in nineteen minutes via pinfall (C-) Show rating: D. Um, yeah, that sucked. On the next Coastal Zone: Our booker forgot that there's a month between September and Novvember... so with four more shows to hype Showdown at Sundown, we have to let a surprise out of the bag before they get upset at not being used.

Probably sooner rather than later, given how we really, really want to hit Cult before the end of the year... Time to take our semi-monthly quick break through the Midsouth so they don't start forgetting us... CZCW Coastal Tour October 2012, week 2, Sunday West Texas Thingamabob, Midsouth USA We open with Matt Sparrow in the ring, ranting about how Clark Alexander shouldn't be here, he's RIPW, he shouldn't be in the Zone. Clark comes out to show off his new CZCW contract. Machine comes out to tell him he's not winning the #1 Contendership. Machine'll be the one to face Sparrow. Lauren comes out to remind them all that the #1 Contender may not be facing Sparrow at all... they might have to steop into the Lion's Den. Annnd we set up a main event tonight. (D+) OPENING MATCH Remus & Perez def. Acid & Brasil in sixteen minutes via blatant choke (D-) Backstage, Clark and Machine encounter each other and talk about mutual respect... but Machine thinks Clark is a hever-was, and Clark things Machine has wasted his potential (D+) SECOND MATCH El Mitico def. Masked Patriot in nineteen minutes via rollup (D+) Remus & Patriot accept Team Lucha's challenge, provided they agree to a stipulation... Last Man Standing. (E+) MAIN EVENT Lauen & Clark def. Sparrow & Machine in thirty minutes via Hawaiian Breaker (C+) Show rating: C- Yeah, that's a main event that, with a few modifications, we can run with for a while. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: The final build to Showdown at Sundown! Will Clark give us the boost to our main event scene that we need?

Hoping to get to bed at a decent hour tonight -- 'cause work hates it when I sleep at my desk! Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Yeah, I pretty much had to re-sign Clark. After the match he and Sparrow put on with next to no ability to hype it up, and performing how he did, I figured he'd be a great addition. CZCW Coastal Tour October 2012, week 3, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA OPENING MATCH Fox Force Five def. Team America in sixteen minutes via Full Force (D) Jim Force is improving in Flying skills. That's... scary. Clark talks about how he's going to defeat Insane Machine at Showdown at Sundown (D+) Acid and Jonnie have an encounter backstage, and Jonnie tells Acid he should thank him -- otherwise, there's no way Acid would be in a Coastal Zone Main Event (D-) SECOND MATCH: Lucha Team Lucha def. Remus & Patriot & Jameson in twenty-three minutes via pinfall (C) Team Lucha then cuts a promo on getting their titles back... even if it's not the same team makeup (D-) Machine hypes his match with Alexander (D-) MAIN EVENT Sparrow, Alexander & Acid def. Lauren, Machine & Jonnie in twenty-eight minutes via pinfall (C-) Show rating: C- Wow, lucha match over-performed our expectations. We've been getting some surprisingly good results with our lucha workers lately. Maybe we should re-try setting up a puro group as well. Maybe when we hit Cult. Or, since we actually -want- to try this, in 2013. CZCW Coastal Tour October 2012, week 4, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA We open with Sparrow ranting about how e's a marked man all of a sudden, people are lining up to beat him next week, next month, next year. Out comes Ultimate Phoenix to say he forgot something... he forgot later tonight. (C-) OPENING MATCH Team Lucha & Acid II def. Remus & Patriot & Perez in sixteen minutes via Acid Rain Bomb (C-) Sparrow cuts a promo on Pheonix (C-) Backstage, Remus & Patriot remind Team Luch athat it's not a six-man match at Showdown... it's just two on two, and the titles say that they're the best pair in the Zone (D) SECOND MATCH Insane Machine def. Lauren the Lion and Clark Alexander in twenty-nine minutes via... wait, Termination Kick? We said DQ ending, dammit! Machine's going into business for himself... (C+) Machine then taunts Clark, saying he's going to be #1 Contender (D-) MAIN EVENT: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow def. Ultimate PHoenix in twenty-two minutes via Birdbrainbuster (C) Show rating: C-. Oh, come on, a C-, a C+, and a C, and we get a C-? Yeesh. On the next Coastal Zone: Showdown at Sundown 2012! Sparrow vs Lauren! Machine vs Alexander! Team Lucha vs Remus & Patriot! Acid vs Perez! And we'll probably find something else to put in there too.

Oooooo, strike two! Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Bobby pulled a prank again... this time, on our ref. We go with the riot act this time. Third time and he's gone... which might be for the best, as he's not working out how we hoped. Oh, look who's in the last month of their contract. Someone had better turn in a good performance in the next two shows if he wants to stay employed... But, we now have seven weeks to build to Year In Review, and only one match. So, what to do, what to do... CZCW Coastal Tour November 2012, week 1, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA We open with Sparrow cutting a promo on Clark, reminding us that last time they fought, he was the winner -- and tonight, he'll give a reminder of why he's the champion (C-) OPENING MATCH: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow (c) def. CZCW Coastal Tour November 2012, week 2, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA Clark out, Lauren out, set up a main event for -next- -week-. Nice, simple (D) OPENING MATCH Kirk Jameson def. Bobby Thomas in six minutes via pinfall (D-) Clark hypes next week's main event (D) SECOND MATCH Fox Mask def. J2 in thirteen minutes via Foxhunter (D-) THIRD MATCH: Xtreme Ladder Jonnie Perez (c) def. Capitao Brasil in seventeen minutes after a Masked Patriot run-in (E+ ???) Clark, Remus & Patriot in twenty-seven minutes via submission (C-) Show Rating: D Yikes... what the hell happened there? The entire show fell apart, and even the main event couldn't drag the show out of the depths. We've decided; Bobby Thomas isn't getting his contract renewed. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Lauren vs Clark! If this doesn't work, we're in trouble...

Where sometimes, you just can't catch a break: Welcome to the Coastal Zone! So, we got a working agreement with Exile 2010. However, they weren't interested in any of our workers... except maybe Matt Sparrow, who they were willing to give us an opener for. Um... no. CZCW Coastal Tour November 2012, week 3, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA OPENING MATCH: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow (c) def. Jim Force in sixteen minutes via Birdbrainbuster (C-) Fox hypes his match with Jonnie (D) Dueling promos from Remus & Patriot and Team Lucha (E+, E+) SECOND MATCH Fox & Team Lucha def. Jonnie, Remus & Patriot in nineteen minutes via Foxhunter (C) Clark cuts promos on Lauren and Matt (D, D) MAIN EVENT Clark Alexander def. Lauren the Lion in thirty minutes via Hawaiian Breaker (C) Show rating: C Clark and Lauren deliver in the clutch! So, the path seems clear.. we need to be advance-booking the next week's main event and hyping that while also hyping the current week's main event, keeping interest in both high enough to deliver stellar matches. ... that seems like a lot of work. Injury Report: Masked Patriot is working through a distracted thigh muscle. What it's distracted by, I don't know... oh, it's healed before the next show. No problems. So, under the theory of 'that seems like a lot of work', we set up a main event for this week: Sparrow, Force, and Phoenix. If Sparrow/Force gets a C- without promotion, adding Phoenix and some promotion should get us a C. CZCW Coastal Tour November 2012, week 4, Sunday West Texas Westernasium, Midsouth USA We open with Insane Machine telling Fox that he shouldn't have an Xtreme Title match -- he (Machine) should. Fox offers to settle the contendership next week. MAachine agrees (D) Force hypes the main event (D-) OPENING MATCH Flying Jimmy Foxx def. Rod Remus in fifteen minutes via pulling the tights (D+) Phoenix hypes the main event (D-) SECOND MATCH MAchine & Perex def. Fox & Lauren in twenty-two minutes via Termination Kick (C-) Machine talks trash to Fox (D+) Sparrow hypes the main event (D-) MAIN EVENT: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow (c) def. Jim Force and Ultimate Phoenix in twenty-seven minutes via birdbrainbuster (C-) Show rating: D+ ... WTF? That match should've done better than tha... erm... guys? Why do we have Matt v Force v Phoenix scheduled for Battle at the Beach 2013? Argh. We're not the only ones having a bad week; BHOTWG had falled to Cult and kicked out their booker. On the next Coastal Zone: It's the last month of 2012, and the last chance to push for Cult this year. Can we make it? Will we find success with the new 'meshing main event' booking style? Will we go back to one show per post? All this and more!

Reusing jokes that we've already reused: Welcome to the Coastal Zone! BSC is growing again, engorging on hot talent and rising to the challenge of the occasion. We look forward to seeing them go down again. Awww, crap. El Mitico has decided he doesn't want to work in America anymore. Well, we know who's not winnig the tag match at YiR... but at least we've got the rest of the month. Bobby Thomas and Kamakaze Vars are both gone; Bobby was a pain, and we didn't want to get Cliff torqued at us by re-hirin the unsafe Vars. This means we're now a few people short of where we want to be if we reach Cult. Time to explore our options. CZCW Coastal Tour December 2012, week 1, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA We open with Matt in the ring, saying he's going to make an open challenge for anyone to get a title shot next week, first come, first serve. Out ot accept it... Masked Patriot? Yeap, we're gonna give it a shot. (D+) FIRST MATCH: Xtreme Ladder Jonnie Perez def. Island Boy Apollo, Acid II, and Kirk Jameson in fifteen minutes (D) Fox and Machine do dueling interviews (D+, D) SECOND MATCH Sparrow & Team America def. Alexander, Remus & Patriot in twenty-two minutes via pinfall (C-) Sparrow then tells Patriot he's in for a world a hurt next week, because there will be no teams (D) MAIN EVENT Fox Mask def. Insane Machine in twenty-five minutes via Foxhunter, despite Perez interference (C) Show rating: C-. Eh, we'll take it. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Will Sparrow have a plan to deal with Patriot's tag team partner? Can they hope to live up to the decent matches we've been putting on in main events lately? We'll see...

Where we just realized we've been remarkably accident-free lately... which means someone's getting hurt bad before the year is out. Welcome to the Coastal Zone... please watch your step. Seriously, I think I just jinxed us. So, three new names in the Zone; one returning, two brand new. First off, Speedball is back on the roster. Second, since we have Panda Mask II, we decided to hire the original, Harrison Hash. And finally, for a taste of something different, and since we couldn't get him in a talent trade, we're giving a main event spot to Barry Kingman. As an aside, SWF's most recent big event? D+. Granted, it was in Japan with a lot of non-Japan workers, but still... we can claim to have put on better shows than them. Their TV show, however, was averaging a B level. CZCW Coastal Tour December 2012, week 2, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA OPENING MATCH Eagle Washington def. El Mitico in thirteen minutes vvia pinfall (D) Barry Kingman comes out and introduced himself to us, saying he's not here for gimmicks, he's here for action. And he wants to see the finest the Zone can offer him at Year In Review. OUt to accept the challenge is... the living gimmick, Jim Force. (D-) SECOND MATCH Acid II def. Whippy the Clown and Justin Sensitive in ten minutes via finisher (D) Lauren is out to hype her matc... wait, she doesn't have a match. Why not? She's a former champion, a star, and yet "And yet you suck!" Speedball throws down the gauntlet for Year In Review. We think we need to expnd the size of that show (D) THIRD MATCH Kingman & Speedball def. Lauren & Force in seventeen minutes via pinfall (C-) Sparrow comes out and admits to misgivings about this match, because his opponent has a long-term partner. Remus is out to say that if Sparrow gives him a shot next week, he'll stay out of tonight's match. Sparrow agrees (D-) Patriot comes out and cuts a promo (D) MAIN EVENT: CZCW Title Sparrow (c) def. Patriot in twenty minutes via Bridbrainbuster (C-) Show rating: D+. Too many long set-up promos, most likely. On the next Coastal Zone: Sparrow vs Remus as we burn our last show before Year In Review!

Where it doesn't look like Cult is in the cards for this year after all: Welcome to the Coastal Zone! Seriously, unless we have to red-hot shows, we're not making it this year. Probably not even then. I'm not sure of the math involved, but I'm fairly sure we're more than two good shows away from Cult. Hrm. You better believe we're going to re-sign Sparrow. The man single-handedly saved the Zone after Skye left. CZCW Coastal Tour Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA December 2012, week 3, Sunday We open with dueling promos from Jim, Barry, Jonnie, and Fox (D-, E+, D, D-) OPENING MATCH Fox Force Five def. Barry Kingman & Jonnie Perex in twelve minutes via Full Force (C-) Lauren cuts a promo on Speedball, saying the only reason he's getting a match with her is that she's bored (D) SECOND MATCH Lauren the Lion def. Ultimate Phoenix in twenty-six minutes via DQ when Speedball runs in and attacks her (C-) Speedball then cuts a rant on Lauren (D-) Remus tries to hype the main event (E+) MAIN EVENT: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow (c) def. Rod Remus in twenty-three minutes via Birdbrainbuster after Eagle Washington interferes and attacks Remus (C-) Sparrow then hypes Year In Review to end the show (D) Show rating: C-. "Remember when you told me I'd never take the title back to RIPW? Well... I'm not going back there. I'm goingg to take it from you, and keep it in the Zone, as a reminder of how you lost." (D+) OPENING MATCH: Battle Royal Harrison Hash def. Acid, Wolfe, Machine, Apollo, Justin, Kirk, Panda, Whippy, and J2 in ten minutes (D-) Backstage, Lauren and Marc are brawling (D) SECOND MATCH: Tag Titles Team America def. We swear, this'll be the year we hit Cult! Honest! Welcome to the Coastal Zone! So, a new year, new challen... no, wait, everything was exactly the same. As per tradition, we didn't hold a show on Sunday of December, week 4, giving the talent time to rest up. The new year brought bad tidings for CWWF, as they were running low on cash. We, meanwhile, had plenty of the stuff; we had passed the one-million mark long ago, and kept on climbing. Regular sell-outs of 2,000 seat venues was being good for us. CZCW Coastal Tour January 2013, week 1, Sunday West Texas Auditorium, West Texas, Texas. We open with Sparrow celebrating his win, and Barry Kingman coming out to celebrate his... by challenging for the title. We have our Uprising main event. (D+) OPENING MATCH: CZCW Title Matt Sparrow (c) def. Whippy the Clow in twelve minutes via finisher (C-) Jonnie Perez comes out and says he's beaten a Zone legend... now, he wants to beat a champion, so he challenges Sparrow to a non-title match next week. Sparrow considers that, and agrees (D) SECOND MATCH: Xtreme Ladder Jonnie Perez (c) def. Rod Remus in nineteen minutes (D-, no chemistry) Sparrow cuts a promo on Perez (C-) and Kingman does on Sparrow (D-) MAIN EVENT Barry Kingman def. Ultimate Phoenix in twenty-nine minutes via pinfall (D+) Show rating: D Well, that was dissapointing. That was exactly the kind of show we wanted to avoid. But, we have a match set up for next week, that should be good with a little hype... and we should set up some other matches, too... we should consider setting up weekly 'named' events, ROH style, to make it easier to book/hype matches for specific shows instead of just 'the next one'. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Champion vs Champion, the debut of a new tag team, and... probably something bigg to try and boost the rating.

Making a rare no-game-stuff post to answer this one:
So 2013 and you're not Cult yet? Just curious, what's holding down the Coastal Zone?
A combination of things; the main factor being their booker, combined with a slump in the wrestling industry and economy in America that just now is starting to pull out of it's E/F funk and scrape into the D ranges. Mainly the booker tho, as he tinkered with the product to allow angles and somehow managed to damage it to the point where most workers were unable to put on a C-level match, and he then had to build his workers up to the point where they could. By the time they could, the industry was in the toilet. Now that the industry is getting better, his major stars are at the point where they're easily grabbed by other promotions, and the Zone's prestige is such that they're low man on the totem pole when it comes to deciding which contract gets dropped. A heavy, sustained push towards Cult will eventually succeed (We've got the popularity needed in the MidSouth, but the Southwest's importance level means we need to get a string of C-/C shows to imrpove high enough there... and anything below a D+ is going to hurt us), but there seems to be an increasing number of shows where the guys just aren't 'feeling it'. Also, if I could get some opinions: This is currently the third-most-read dynasty for TEW08 (there's others that're more read, but they came out before TEW08 did, so I dont' count them). When I hit Cult, I'm probably going to change diary styles and go with more of a write-up than the bare-bones I've been doing, but still let gameplay be the focus (If you figure right now my Gameplay Percentage is 90%, I'm thinking of dropping it down to 70% or so). So... with a change like that, should I start a new diary (Welcome to the Cultal Zone?), or just keep going on this one?

Cult. Glory. A booker craves not these things. TO the Coastal Zone, you are welcomed. Talk like Yoda, we do. SWF is starting to lose people due to not being big enough; that means, they're either due for a comeback, or about to get hit hard. It'll be interesting to see which is which. They're still #4 promotion in the world (For the record, the first three are Global; the only National in the top ten is 5SSW at #7). So, we figure we're just gonna throw our big guns into this show and see what we can pull off. CZCW Coastal Tour January 2013, week 4, Sunday Grissom Auditorium, Southwest USA We open with Machine, Alexander, Lauren, and Phoenix in the ring, arguing, eventually settling on a tag match... but with Alex in the main event, well, he's not available this week.
