Davis Wayne Newton vs. Steve Flash DWN is a future prospect, but until he gains a little popularity, he should be an undercarder even in a performance-oriented promotion like this. Flash needs a win after his semi-final loss. Nina The Psycho Ballerina and Ginko Kuroda vs. Tamara McFly and JeriLynn Stone I expect Nina to pin Tamara here, to establish herself as the no. 1 contender for JL's title. The Bronzed Blondes vs. The Rock City Stars With all the hype you've built for them, how can they lose? Insane Machine vs. Jacob Jett I think the Mansion will help Machine to get a tainted win over the champ. The Playboy Mansion (Lead Belly, Grease Hogg and Sgt. Bubba Lee West) vs. Kirk Heidenreich and Precision and Power Kirk's got nothing on the Mansion. Stuart Ferdinand vs. Frankie Perez OK, let's have at least one match won by a face too. Nathan Coleman vs. Clark Alexander Ooh, a chance to job a TCW worker to your own main eventer! :D Shooter Sean Deeley vs. Jack Marlowe for the APWF Heavyweight Championship Shooter is a good worker, but Marlowe has so much more superstar potential that he'll be a lot better figurehead for the young promotion. Also, I mark for him hard.

Davis Wayne Newton vs. Steve Flash Push Steve to the moon while he's still around. Plus Flash was in the semi-finals for the tournament, no way is he being knocked out this early by an undercarder like DWN Nina The Psycho Ballerina and Ginko Kuroda vs. Tamara McFly and JeriLynn Stone I will always mark for Ginko. That girl is amazing. Check it out! The Bronzed Blondes vs. The Rock City Stars Bronzed Blondes are better wrestlers, have more potential AND is a much cooler concept Insane Machine vs. Jacob Jett He just won the title so I don't think he'll drop the strap that quickly The Playboy Mansion (Lead Belly, Grease Hogg and Sgt. Bubba Lee West) vs. Kirk Heidenreich and Precision and Power I think they'll win through some underhanded manner... Stuart Ferdinand vs. Frankie Perez I forsee Stuart being one of your main jobbers for awhile Nathan Coleman vs. Clark Alexander Tough call, random guess Shooter Sean Deeley vs. Jack Marlowe for the APWF Heavyweight Championship Jack! Jack! He's our man, if he can't do it no one can!

Davis Wayne Newton vs. Steve Flash -As others have said, DWN is the future. There's still a little bit of "now" in Flash. Nina The Psycho Ballerina and Ginko Kuroda vs. Tamara McFly and JeriLynn Stone -Don't see an immediate upside to the champ losing in i this tag match. The Bronzed Blondes vs. The Rock City Stars -With one more "B" word, the Bronzed Blondes would be an alliteration powerhouse. Insane Machine vs. Jacob Jett -Non-title match, let's go with the would-be challenger. The Playboy Mansion (Lead Belly, Grease Hogg and Sgt. Bubba Lee West) vs. Kirk Heidenreich and Precision and Power -I think the Mansion will be made to look strong for awhile. Stuart Ferdinand vs. Frankie Perez -Frankie all the way. Nathan Coleman vs. Clark Alexander -Mostly because I like Coleman more than Alexander (his picture makes me want to punch him). Shooter Sean Deeley vs. Jack Marlowe for the APWF Heavyweight Championship -Toss up, I guess. I can see Deeley winning, but it seems like you'd get more mileage of a Jack reign.

"Do you have ANY idea how close you were to screwing over this entire promotion?!?!" I was furious. It was nearly 1am and I still hadn't left Pennsylvania Park, even though the show was over hours ago. However, less than an hour after the show was over there was a huge commotion near the rear entrance of the arena. A bunch of punk kids decided it would be fun to talk crap to the wrestlers as they left the building -- from a moderately safe distance, of course. Most of the guys did the professional thing and ignored them. Notice that I said most. Nathan Coleman, who has a reputation for being a hothead, decided that he was going to verbally dress down the peanut gallery -- and it went downhill from there. Many more words were exchanged, some pushing and shoving took place, and it probably would have gotten worse if his GCG buddies Stuart Ferdinand and Jack Marlowe hadn't shown up to pull Nathan out of there. Unfortunately it was enough to get the police called, statements taken, lawsuits threatened, yadda yadda yadda. After all of that, Ray and I drug Nathan back into the arena and I was proceeding to chew his ass into hamburger. Nathan smirked at my question. He replied, "I think you're making this into a bigger deal than it is, there weren't even any punches thrown or anything like that." "You do understand that fact was the only thing that kept you from being fired tonight?" "Oh, please, JeriLynn. You say that as if I need this job. Honestly, I've been hauling my ass back and forth from Japan not for the frequent flyer miles, but because I like you and want to help you out. And honestly, can we tone down the Wrath of God schtick? You and I both know that were the crap to hit the rotors, you wouldn't be making that call, just like you couldn't make that call up north." My eyes narrowed. "Ray," I said flatly, not taking my eyes off of Nathan. "Yes, JeriLynn?" "If I fired this sorry jackass right now, would you try to stop me?" "Absolutely not. Your book, your call. I will support you 100%." Nathan's smirk faded away as he heard Ray's response. "I like you too, Nathan, I always have. But you ever make an 'up north' reference like that to me again, and I WILL fire your ass. Am I clear?" There was a brief pause before his answer; "Yes, ma'am." "Good. Now get out of my sight. Next show is in two weeks in Detroit." ----------
Prediction Standings: Current Overall Overall Name Show Results Show Results Percentage Dansc: 7/8 20/24 .833 1PWfan: -/- 12/16 .750 theoutlaw321: 4/8 11/16 .688 Astil: -/- 10/16 .625 Jaded: -/- 5/8 .625 praguepride: 6/8 14/24 .583 d_w_w: 6/8 9/16 .563 Actarus: 3/8 13/24 .542 D-Lyrium: -/- 4/8 .500 nZane: 4/8 4/8 .500 smurphy1014: 3/8 9/24 .375
Davis Wayne Newton vs Kirk Heidenreich -Pretty sure I'm not going to pick against Kirk for a few weeks. Sgt. Bubba Lee West vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith -Biased pick. Bubba Lee just screwed me in a side game, so he has fallen from my favor. Insane Machine and Casey Valentine vs Jacob Jett and Trent Shaffer -Ball is back in Jett's court. Ginko Kuroda vs JeriLynn Stone (c) for the APWF Womens Title -Too soon to drop the belt. Barry Kingman vs Kirk Jameson -Owner goals, plus Kirk is something of a future prospect and can afford to lose for now. Zeus Maxmillion vs Frankie Perez -Tough call for me. I like both wrestlers and think that you can do good things with both of them. Freddie Datsun vs Clark Alexander -Flannel > * Shooter Sean Deeley and Nathan Coleman vs Jack Marlowe and Steve Flash -Jack and Flash are a more interesting team, but I don't see them pulling it out, for some reason. Of course, another train of thought says that the champ shouldn't take a loss so quickly after winning the belt. But, well, I missed that train.

That was a perfect solid filler show. A couple of solid matches that moved storylines ahead and one big segment, which in this case was the return of Freddie Datsun. A little sad to see Casey Valentine not be able to get into the Playboy Mansion. Though it would be hard since that incedent with Peter...

"Honestly, JeriLynn, it's the right thing to do." "I know, Ray. It's just hard." "The business is hard. We never want it to get in the way of what we want, but sometimes it's just not possible." I had gone into Manhattan to review the month-end numbers with Ray and discuss creative direction over the next few weeks. The old APWF had four 'anchor' shows in the year, all centered around holidays -- The Final Countdown was usually between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Blood, Beer and Barbeque was Labor Day weekend, the Great American Clash was around July 4th, and American Gladiators was Memorial Day weekend. American Gladiators was the first major show we were building towards and at this point we had two good feuds to work with -- Marlowe and Deeley for the Heavyweight title on one hand, Insane Machine and Jacob Jett on the other. The tag picture was still a bit fuzzy, along with the women's picture, but we could afford to play a little loose with both of them. We needed another uppercard story to tell, and I'd wanted to set up Kirk in that slot. The problem was, Kirk was struggling. If we paired him up with someone REALLY solid from a perfomance standpoint, someone who could work with his still limited skillset, he was OK. Otherwise, it was very hard to get a consistent performance out of him. One of the advantages of being in NOTBPW was that Kirk never had to worry about how to 'carry' a match -- there were so many solid workers there that Kirk could spend all of his time learning and his natural athleticism would take care of the rest. Also, even though he was getting more popular, especially in Ontario and Quebec, we purposely kept him down the card, using him as dark match filler with guys who needed wins, or pairing him up in tag team matches with Dad and Uncle Dan, or the Can-Am Blondes, where Kirk's weaknesses were never noticed. However, in APWF he was in essence a main eventer; the cold hard truth was he wasn't ready for that. I could tell he sorely missed working with Uncle Duane, who had become his primary in-ring mentor before he went to Japan. Uncle Dan stepped into that role afterwards, but Kirk didn't have the same rapport with him that he did with Duane. Given the fact that we weren't doing house shows or weekly TV tapings, I did what I could with our working relationships to get Kirk additional experience. In fact, at the moment he was back with TCW where he'd had a really solid match with Joey Minnesota on TV and was going to be on the undercard at The War to Settle the Score. But he was getting jobbed, naturally, and that was affecting his popularity. I didn't want him stuck with a JTTS tag too early in his career -- sometimes you never shake that stigma and can't be taken seriously when pushed. When Ray suggested that we send Kirk to Chicago to work with Paul Steadyfast at CCW, I resisted. We'd only just set up our own place and it pained me to think that we'd be separated again, and this time there was no family jet or million-dollar travel budget to let me go see him whenever I wanted. That being said, the distance between New York and Chicago was not nearly as far as between Halifax and Saint Knud. But that wasn't the point; I didn't want Kirk to be somewhere else, not now, just as we were starting our own lives together. Ray understood, and listened as I gave every reason why we could make it work without Kirk going away. But ultimately, it came down to doing what was best for Kirk. In order for him to take the next step, he had to go from being able to follow his way through a match to being able to lead his way through a match, or at least be able to be an equal partner to the other folks in the ring. The intense training that CCW offered gave us a chance to help guide Kirk along. It was certainly paying dividends for our other development talent -- the reports we were getting back from Marcus McKing and Paul Steadyfast were very encouraging regarding Zoe Ammis, Warren Technique and the Kingman twins. If they could do the same with Kirk, it may only be a matter of a few months before Kirk could come back and be a real main eventer for us. Now I just had to figure out a way to tell Kirk.
