Just another 1991 WWF Diary

Awesome Title huh? The Beginning I woke up to a snapping noise. I looked up from the bench I had fallen asleep on to a young boy with a bracelet he kept snapping on his hand. Me: Oh these haven’t been cool since the early 90’s. The Boy gave me an odd look and scurried away. I looked around and noticed that I was in a big city, far from the farm town where I lived. It must have been some night last night. I reached into my pocket for my cell phone but all I found was a note with a number on it and some change. The note read: Take a deep breath; this is not a practical joke. Call 555-1991. Clearly my friends thought it would be clever to steal my cell phone. Why they think writing this is not a practical joke would make me believe that this wasn’t is beyond me. Me: Excuse me sir do you have a cell phone, I could borrow real fast? Man: Do I look like I’m filthy rice to you? There is a pay phone down about a block. I thanked him and ran to where the man had pointed. As I ran, I looked at the signs and posters I passed. Clinton for Democratic Nominee? This town is a little behind that chick lost about a month ago. I made it to the phone and called the number. Me: Hello, I was told to call this number by a note in my pocket. Are you guys done screwing around? An old Chinese man responded on the other end. Magician: It’s the magician from last night, I told you this wasn’t a joke. Me: Yeah which makes me all the more suspicious, what’s going on? Where’s my phone? Magician: Sometimes traveling back can jog your memory, don’t you remember meeting me in the park last night? Instantly I remember walking my dog and running into the old Chinese man who told me he was a magician. We talked for hours, mostly about wrestling. He asked me my dream job, to which I responded being Owner of the WWF in the early 90’s. Magician: Your dream job is yours. It’s 1991 and you are owner of the WWF. Well 65% to the McMahons 35% of course. Me: This can’t be real…I must be in sleeping. Magician: I assure you this is real. But you have a meeting take the cab to Titan Towers. Right then I heard a horn sound, and looked to see a cab waiting behind me. Me: I’m still confused there is so much I need to ask, will I see you again? Magician: You will see me when I am needed. Right then the old man hung up. I shrugged and got into the cab on my way to Titan Tower. When I arrived to Titan Towers, I was charged by a younger Vince McMahon. Vince: Where have you been? This meeting is important it’s going to change the face of the WWF. Here is your notes. Let’s get up there. Surrounded by network executives, Smokey Mountain Wrestling officials, and some of our biggest stars. I read my notes and then thought to myself about what I would do if this was in fact all real like the magician had told me. By the end of the meeting I had cancelled All American Wrestling, made Smokey Mountain the WWF’s official development territory, and subsequently sent a few our talents with them, and fired a hand full of wrestlers. Not bad for a first day. After the meeting Vince came up to me, confused. Vince: What has gotten into you? Me: You see Vince staying the course isn’t a plan. The WWF needs a plan and I so happen have one and the WWF will never be the same. Vince gave me a worried look and I wondered to myself how much I would change and how much would stay the same?

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I've decided to post results and news weekly in the form of WWF Magazine as the internet was not to big back in 1991 so I thought it would be a nice touch. I'm going to post the roster next and a preview for Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, and Prime Time Wrestling added to this magazine edition. WWF Magazine- Week 1 January 1991 News The WWF has cancelled All American Wrestling. The feeling was that 3 “B” shows was 1 too many. The WWF have moved Wrestling Challenge and Superstars’ tapings to Monday. The WWF have released the following Barry Orton, Billy Red Lyons, Brian Donahue, John Bradley, Salvatore Bellomo, Tony Roy, Terry Gibbs, Sean Mooney, and Sapphire. The WWF wishes them well in their future endeavors. The WWF and Smokey Mountain Wrestling have come to an agreement making Smokey Mountain the official development territory of the WWF. Upon agreement the WWF sent the following written contracted wrestlers to SMW; Boris Zhukov, Hercules Hernandez, Jim Powers, Paul Roma, Saba Simba, and Skinner. Demolition Ax, Tito Santana, and Dusty Rhodes have all been resigned to written deals. The following have been signed to written deals and sent to SMW; Chris Walker, Duane Gill, Christian Cage, Max Moon, Scott Taylor, Chris Jericho, Rodney Anoa’i. Scott Hall and Steve Austin have also been signed to written deals but have to wait 7 days for their current contracts expire before being sent to SMW. The WWF would like to welcome three former stars back. Jacques Rougeau, Tully Blanchard, and Jesse “The Body” Ventura have all been signed to new written contracts. The WWF have signed manager Percy Pringle to a written deal. Perfect and Heenan disagreed with a tag team wrestler being named #1 contender for the Intercontinental title. And when it comes to the Rumble when Hart doesn’t have the Anvil to rely on he will see just how Perfect the Intercontinental Champion is. *Stick to tag team wrestling kid, or at the Royal Rumble you will be embarrassed, now that’s Perfect* B- VS Big Bossman vs Dino Bravo A battle of power houses. Macho King neutralized Kerry Von Erich’s slight power advantage by using the top rope and at one point even hit a double axe handle from the top to Kerry Von Erich who was on the outside. The ending came when Savage was in the corner hurt; Von Erich charged and found nothing but turnbuckle falling on his back and setting Macho up perfectly to climb the turnbuckle and hit the Savage Elbow for the three. But Slaughter had an ace up his sleeve with his manager General Adnan. When the referee was distracted by Slaughter , Adnan hit Tito in the back with the Iraq flag softening him up for Slaughter to apply the Camel Clutch forcing Tito to submit.
I like the background on your cuts did you do that yourself?
Kinda, I just took the kyky background and took the blue and black that fit TEW and used clouds overtop of the kyky and lowered the clouds opacity.

Vince: So I've got this great idea I've been wanting to tell you about... As I drifted from Vince's incoherent rambling I thought about how being from the future has it's advantages. Like knowing the guys with the potential to blow up into huge stars. My development was looking stacked with guys like; Adam Copeland, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian Cage, Eddie Guerrero, Kevin Von Erich, Konnan, RVD, Yokozuna, Scott Hall, and Steve Austin. Hopefully these guys all reach their potential as my roster is starting to look a little long in the tooth and without creating new stars our mighty empire will fall. Me: Vince did you know USWA declared War on us? Vince: You weren't listening to me were you? Me: No but they did all because I didn't want a working agreement with them, so I hired two of their top stars in Brian Christopher and Jeff Jarrett. I'll put those jabroni's out of business. Vince: Back to my idea is called the WBF and it's a body building federation and instead of Superstars we will call them Bodystars... I rolled my head back and dozed off listening to one of the worst ideas in the history of McMahon... Officials are still up in the air whether to offer him a new contract or let him test the open market. Congratulations to WWF development talent Scott Hall. Scott won the Smokey Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. It is Scott's first championship reign. Japanese Superstar Jushin Thunder Liger is in negotiations with the WWF on becoming a full time member of the roster. I look forward to the matches this guy could have with the likes of The Rockers. Speaking of The Rockers I keep hearing rumors that these two could be calling it quits soon. Apparently Jannetty feels he isn't as appreciated as Michaels. Keep an eye on that fans. Andre the Giant has been cleared to return to ring. He will most likely come back as only an occasional wrestler. It's good to see Andre back. WCW wrestler Matt Borne has signed a contract with WWF and will be sent to development for a short period before being called up with a very unique gimmick from what I'm told. Also a former Superstar may be getting the itch to come back. No Ventura fans it's not me but "Rowdy" Roddy Piper might have recaught the wrestling bug. It'd be good to see my current broadcast partner on Primetime Wrestling back in the ring. More importantly he'd be out of my booth. There is rumblings from the back that a development talent will debut soon and the WWF should look out because from what I'm hearing this guy is sharp. Jushin Thunder Liger has officially joined the WWF, wonder if he will join the Royal Rumble match? Haku has extended his deal with the WWF. Several new development talents were signed this week but I ain't telling. We gotta keep something a surprise. I've been hearing rumblings about the new Commissioner. I hear Tunney is going to hire former WWF World Champion...Bob Backlund... And in a closing note Tunney better strip that jerk Warrior of his WWF Championship. He attacked Slaughter for no good reason...but you will read more about that lately...until next time. You get all the singles matches, you’re already announced for the Rumble. Shawn: Listen Marty we are still The Rockers, and it’s not my fault that you aren’t getting any singles matches, maybe you need to do something to make yourself more identifiable. I’d love to stay and chat about this but I got a match with The Mountie, next. Marty: Yeah….figures. (Marty looks on annoyed at Shawn as he leaves.) Michaels and Jannetty argue backstage. My big friend hasn’t been here for a while and wanted me to announce his return for the Royal Rumble. So I talked to Jack Tunney and he approved it the big man is in. Well that man was none other than the Great, Andre The Giant (The Crowd Erupts). Now Andre kind of inspired me you could say. The Hot Rod has fun announcing various WWF shows and doing the acting thing in Hollywood, but he has been gone way too long. So I’d like to announce that I will also be returning to the ring at the Royal Rumble. (Piper celebrates as the crowd goes wild.) Piper announces Return. And Jesse boy do we have a first matchup filled with two powerhouses. Jesse: That’s right Gorilla, The Warlord and Davey Boy Smith have to be two of the strongest guys in the WWF and the do battle here tonight. Gorilla: In addition to that we have some great matchups, like The Rhodes Family taking on The Million Dollar Man and Virgil, The Legion of Doom battling The Nasty Boys to become #1 contenders to the Tag Team Titles, Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart will battle for the Intercontinental Title which should be an instant classic. Ventura: Yeah Gorilla those matches sound great but I’m looking forward to the WWF Championship Match, The Ultimate Warrior vs Sergeant Slaughter. It’s going to be great seeing Slaughter finally hold the belt. Gorilla: Not so fast Jess the Warrior is a great champ with a lot of momentum going for him. And don’t forget the Royal Rumble before the Championship Match, where for the first time in history the winner will earn a shot at the WWF Champion at Wrestlemania. C- ”The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase and Virgil vs The Rhodes Family The Finish… This contest was heated as there is a lot of bad blood between these times. Dustin was worked over the entire match and Virgil was a non factor. Dustin made a hot tag to his Dad and while Dusty was setting up the bionic elbow, there was a ref bump. Dustin grabbed the Million Dollar Belt and bashed Virgil. Then went into the ring and swung and hit his father intentionally. Dibiase applied the Million Dollar Dream to an unconscious Dusty, the ref came to, saw Dusty was out, and called for the bell. Dibiase and Virgil defeat The Rhodes Family when Dustin turned on his father and Dibiase applied the Million Dollar Dream. Roberts: The thing people don’t realize is that you can’t go into the Rumble all fired up. You gotta be come, you gotta keep your head, and slither through the competition. You gotta pick your spots. That’s why this is Jake Roberts kind of match and it is why me and Damien will slither our way to Wrestlemania. Earthquake: The Mighty Earthquake is going to make the ring tremble and shake and 28 other superstars are going to pour out. And then it will be down to me and Hulk Hogan and then I will end Hulkamania once and for all. Hogan: People have been asking me, Hulk can you really throw out the massive Earthquake? Can you survive 29 other superstars? Do you still have what it takes? But as I’ve said before, if you train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins, you got a shot. And with the Hulkamaniacs behind me, everyone in the Rumble should ask themselves, Whatcha gonna do? Savage came out #6 and him “Rowdy” went at each other till #11 Jake Roberts came out and stayed paired up with Savage until Savage eventually eliminated him. Hulk Hogan came out #15 and Earthquake came out #18. Hogan and Earthquake asked all in the ring to leave so they could handle their issues. The Undertaker was# 29 and Andre was #30 more on those two later. The Final 8 were; Hulk Hogan, Andre, Shawn, Piper, The Undertaker, Savage, Mr Perfect, and Bret Hart. Andre and The Undertaker at first squared off then turn their attention to other foes and together eliminated; Bret Hart, Shawn, and Mr. Perfect. Savage was working over Piper and Hogan noticed this. Both Piper and Hogan grab Savage by the hair and flung him over the top leaving them the final two. Hogan was overpowering Piper when he went for the big boot. Piper ducked this and put Hogan in the sleeper, Hogan was out but then Hulked up. Hogan ran towards the ropes with Piper still applying the sleeper and slammed on his personal breaks throwing Piper over his back and the top rope for the Rumble win for Hogan. 1st Week of February Back with news from The Body Shop. News broke this week that Colonel Mustafa has decided to retire in the coming month. For the next month Mustafa will go back under his original name, The Iron Sheik, in a farewell tour of sorts. I heard that Jim Neidhart may be getting fed up with the lack of a singles push, while Bret Hart keeps sky rocketing up the ladder...could this be the end of The Hart Foundation? Congratulations to WWF Development talent Jeff Jarrett who won the Smokey Mountain Wrestling World Championship. The title was previously vacant. Sato has officially left the WWF. We wish him well in his future endeavors. There is a new February Pay Per View and it's called Road to Wrestlemania. Should be interesting to see if things are shook-up before Wrestlemania VII. That's all from The Body Shop this week but I'd like to say one last thing. Congratulations to Sgt. Slaughter for finally taking the belt off The Ultimate Puke. Slaughter will no doubt bring much needed prestige to the WWF Title. Cleanly 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring but Bret still thinks he can take out Mr. Perfect. So come Wrestlemania VII when I am victorious again, when I have made sure Bret’s spirit break once and for all, I will finally be done with that punk and be able to move on to bigger and better things. Slaughter…Hogan…that means you.B- VS Jushin Thunder Liger vs Bret “The Hitman” Hart Jushin Thunder Liger made the jump to the WWF from the south and made his debut on Primetime Wrestling against The Hitman. Bret and Liger put on a great match, though the match suffered a little from the crowd not knowing who Jushin Thunder Liger was. The match came to an end when Liger came off the top and Bret executed a backbreaker for the three. Bret Hart defeats Jushin Thunder Liger via Backbreaker. C+ Hogan Interview. Hogan: Hulkamania and the Hulkamaniacs ran wild again on the competition in the Royal Rumble. You know I won the Royal Rumble last year but this year was a little more special. I dumped the mammoth Earthquake over the top rope right on his head. And this year the win guaranteed a World Title Shot at Wrestlemania VII against that turncoat Sgt. Slaughter. Right now all I have to say to Slaughter is, Whatcha gonna do, at Wrestlemania VII when these 24 inch pythons and all of America runs wild on you? B+ Vince: At Royal Rumble the #1 contenders match for the tag team titles ended in a DQ so a rematch was scheduled for a night. B+ This Week on WWF TV On Superstars, we will hear from Razor Ramon about his attack on Andre the Giant. Tully Blanchard will take on Luke of the Bushwhackers, Jushin Thunder Liger will take on Shawn Michaels, Dusty Rhodes will take on Buddy Rose, and in the Main Event Jake Roberts will do battle with Earthquake. On Wrestling Challenge, Jushin Thunder Liger will battle Jim Brunzell, Buzz Sawyer will make his debut against the Hulkster in the Main Event. And finally on Primetime Wrestling, the new commissioner of the WWF will be announced. LOD will battle the Nasty Boys again, The Rockers take on The Hart Foundation for the WWF Tag Team Titles, Razor Ramon makes his in-ring debut against The Big Bossman, The Ultimate Warrior battles Ted Dibiase, and in one of the biggest Main Events in Primetime history Hulk Hogan will take on The Macho King. Explaining the Rumble decisions from top to bottom. Davey Boy defeating The Warlord I thought it was best to just end this feud as soon as possible. It didn't have a lot of time and I couldn't really find any direction for it. Million Dollar Man and Virgil defeat The Rhodes Family after Dustin turned on Dusty. This was actually the plan from the start of the diary. At the real rumble Virgil turned on Dibiase after being berated after a win and that pretty much ended The Rhodes Feud. I wanted to extend it in a different way and thought having Dustin turn on his dad was the best way to go. Virgil may be sent down to development as he is just crap. LOD/Nasty Boys draw This feud has been a disappointment to me. I was hoping one of the teams would emerge as a challenger to The Hart Foundation, but it seems I can't get this feud hot. The feud will continue but the draw allowed me to make a new #1 contenders match with The Rockers coming out on top. Mr. Perfect defeating Bret Hart I've went back and forth on what to do with these two. Right now they will continue to feud at least until their match at Wrestlemania. I thought about giving Bret the belt but really didn't think it was time for it. They put on great matches so I've enjoyed booking this one. The Rumble The most predictable/bland outcome was Hogan winning the Rumble. Hogan has been giving me problems lately so I really tried to find someone else to give the Rumble rub to. This diary has only been going a month and I really felt Hogan was the only one in position for a Rumble win and Wrestlemania title match. I almost gave the win to Piper but decided against it. Slaughter defeating Warrior to become New WWF Champ with help from Taker. Warrior hasn't been a problem so I reward him by taking the belt off of him. Slaughter has been steadily gaining more overness than the Warrior during this feud and by the match was more popular. That's not why I gave him the belt, the plan the whole time was to get the belt off Warrior by Mania. I didn't want a Hogan/Warrior rematch. The Undertaker has had no direction since the start of the diary so I gave him some, plus his new aggressive personality could be attributed to the debuting Paul Bearer... btw wasn't the old pairing of him with Brother Love just awkward? Something to watch out for, with Taker and Warrior on a collision course for Mania, will the Taker Wrestlemania streak never start? Also I'd just like to give a thanks to D16 for making a great mod. This is the most enjoyable mod I've played.

In Kid's last match with Bill Irwin he suffered a broken neck and now will be out 12 months. He is a young up and coming talent the WWF has tried to keep an eye on and hopefully he can fully recover to the form he had before this injury. Please keep this 18 year old phenom in your prayers. I like the debut of Razor Ramon. I always liked Scott Hall as Ramon and I see that the rope didn't break this time for the Rockers. I was wondering though, how WCW been doing through the whole thing. Have they lost or signed anybody big yet?

Have they lost or signed anybody big yet?
Yeah I've always loved Hall, it's sad the problems he has had that derailed his career. haha no rope break this time. With Hart firmly entrenched in the IC title feud, the belts were suppose to go to LOD or The Nasty Boys, unfortunately neither has impressed me all that much, so The Rockers got the nod. I'm still debating with myself how long the title reign lasts. I was actually going to post a WCW update after Wrestlemania VII. But here is a mini update. No big signings for them and their only big loss was Jushin Thunder Liger to me. They have had one title change, Kevin Sullivan won the TV Title on their very first show. They have been putting on very bad shows opting not to us Flair, Sid, Luger, Ron Simmons and very other talents with overness. I think Flair and Sid have both had 1 match, while Luger has had 2 and Ron Simmons has had 0. Yeah the Dustin Rhodes pic is pretty goofy. I just had to throw something together that kinda fit the gimmick. lol.
