SWF: Generation Supreme

Recommended Posts

Happy anniversary to Generation Supreme. This isn't a cheap bump so much as a bit of a status update. Gen-S is not dead, or even on hiatus just yet. The Legends show is coming. It is just coming very shortly. After that, I had planned a bit detailed awards ceremony-write up... but that isn't likely to happen. So its just going to be a straight ahead deal. But I'm not even going to try to put a time frame on the Legends show, let alone beyond that. At that point, I think I'm going to follow the lead set by TigerKinney (as I have so often done) and take a bit of a break from this work. I'm not convinced yet that I want to end it, but I am most certainly lacking in any form of motivation on it. I am thinking that the hiatus could lead to me just saying its done. But we'll. I don't have any set plans to start up any new projects once this goes on hold, but that very well could happen. As I've said a few times now, its not really burnout that has me thinking that Gen-S has gone as far as it needs to go so much as it is just feeling like... well, that's its going as far it needs to go.
Happy anniversary!:D I know that this diary has a huge following, as it should because it is great, but there comes a time when you have just had enough of doing something. I for one would not begrudge you if you decided to take some time off or not continue at all. Do what you feel is best for you. And if you do end up killing this one and starting something else I will follow you over to that one.
Thanks. I gave some very serious consideration to just saying "finit" as of today, just for the symmentry of having it go exactly one year. But I don't think I want to... yet... I realize that Gen-S has a great fanbase. Not sure how it happened, but I'm thankful for it. More than just loyal readers, they are vocal - they provide me a fantastic amount of feedback. I know I'm not the only writer on here to enjoy that, but I also know that a lot of writers - including some with great diaries - would kill for the kind of response and feedback that I typically do. Part of my motivation to keep going has been because of the readers. That thought kept me going through one or two other rough spots in this thing, but those were moreso due to burnout. This one isn't. If I do leave off and end it, it will feel like I'm not giving these great readers what they deserve. And there are a few people I would outright feel like I'm disappointing - notably FINisher as his character just debuted as my Supreme brand color commentator and Reaper as he just did another great belt render for me. And while I am sure they would forgive me, I just can't shake that thought. The idea of a current-day WWE diary is more and more tempting. I keep getting ideas that I would love to explore. I also like the idea that I think it would be more "casual" than this one in many ways. I have a concern that the game itself on TEW2008 would end up being too similar to the SWF game, however. Which is part of the reason that I'm toying with the idea of running the game on EWR. Which would mean I would do a diary of it elsewhere, rather than here. Jumping from one project directly into another probably isn't the best idea, but we'll see what happens...

I'm not sure why the diary would need to be elsewhere... I know technically its the 2008 dynasty, but mine is TEW05 and I know keefmoon who is an outstanding writer ended up scriting a lot of it without the use of a simulator. I had reservations about that approach that it could take away the randomness that helps balance out dreams versus realities but it worked perfectly. Hate to be selfish, but a writer of your class... if you're writing, I'd like it to be here.
I'm not sure why the diary would need to be elsewhere... And I guess if it comes to that, I could just ask readers and see what I get for a response. But I don't know if it will come to that. There are a couple of reasons I was leaning towards using EWR over TEW 08. First was that its easier to get current-day mods. There are some great current mods for TEW 08 that people have obviously put a ton of work into, but they get outdated quite quickly. Plus, because everything is so subjective in real world mods, I find I end up disagreeing with some stats, etc. And you never know how they are going to run six months in or more. I also find the simplicity of EWR appealing - I am concerned that a WWE game will start to feel very much like my SWF game. As well, I think I end up getting focused a bit too much of game mechanics - making sure the show will grade well, as opposed to booking for what I think will work best in diary terms. Its not necessarily a big difference... but there is still a difference... However, I have been messing around with a real world current day mod I downloaded recently, adjusting a few things and adding in some people, etc. This is what I've been doing in the past few days instead of writing the Legends show... I think I have it to a point where I like it, and it seems to be playing quite well so far. But I am concerned about how its going to be down the road a bit. I know that TEW is the better game. Deeper and less flawed. I am also much more familiar with TEW. However, the simplicity of EWR appeals. The idea being able to take a bit of time to plan out a show on paper, and then only having to take 15-20 minutes to put it in, as opposed to at least an hour like it does for TEW... If I do go forward with this project, the idea of it being streamlined is very appealing. At this point, its just a thought process anyway. The only thing I know for sure is that Generation Supreme seems to moving closer to the edge the abyss. Sorry fans.

My two cents on the subject: Do what you want to do. All good things must come to an end and hey, is there anything that you can achieve with Generation Supreme anymore? You talked about the announcing booth job, I really don't mind :) If this ends, I'll be fine and I know that the new diary, shall you start one, will be just as great as this one.

Live from the Isaak Road Arena, I'm Duane Fry. With me tonight are Phil Vibert and Melanie Florence. This is... SWF Legends! It is the General Manager of the Legends brand with only one of his Watchmen, Bryan Holmes... and Nemesis. It the returned legend Nemesis who has the crowd's attention. He stands behind Tyler, yet he still somehow manages to seem like he commands the ring and he a picture of burning intensity. Despite being 50 years old and motionless, the man occasionally known as John Campbell still has an air of potential violence. His scarred face is twisted into his typical scowl as he glares at the SWF fans with disdain. The GM does the talking. He says that he's become very tired of people asking him why he “betrayed” his “friend” Phil Vibert. Well, what people need to realize is that you can't really consider someone a friend if they always treat you as a subordinate. And that was always the relationship between him and Vibert. Tyler says that Nemesis can confirm this, as he was treated much the same – called a friend and treated like any other employee. Like any “good” boss, Vibert was always willing to take credit for hard work and ideas of his employees. So all of the great ideas that helped make Danger and Violence Extreme such a fan favorite, those came from Tyler and Nemesis. But make no mistake – the poor business decisions that sank the promotion came from Vibert. So when the Supreme Wrestling Federation Board of Directors decided they wanted to bring someone in to “spice things up”, they made a mistake by choosing Vibert. But the both Tyler and Nemesis are determined to make certain that Vibert is not able to do to that Legends brand what he did to DaVE. That is what this war is about. Satisfied that he has explained himself, Tyler nods with self-satisfaction. He then passes the microphone to Nemesis. The hardcore legend stares at it for a moment, then at the fans With a sneer, he drops the microphone. He leaves the ring, followed by the General Manager. Bryan Holmes remains. El Leon comes out to a decent reception from the fans, but the masked youngster is attacked before the match even officially starts. El Leon has the crowd behind him as he battles back, but Holmes never really gives over control of the match. Leon looks good, but more from his battling and several kickouts, rather than for having a great deal of offense. What offense he does offer up his quick and innovative. Holmes has a chance to show off his fantastic athleticism, as he matches the quick pace of the smaller wrestler. Holmes scores the win with his Final Impact full nelson suplex bridging into the pin. Even with the loss, Leon continues to win himself more fans with his daredevil style. Emma does all of the talking this time. She says that her, Frehley, and Diaz are more than happy if Legends gets a bit more chaotic and extreme. Because like so many others here in the SWF, she got her start in Danger and Violence Extreme. And she had a nickname back then... Emma Extreme. So an extreme and chaotic environment is just like home to her. And there is no doubt that Frehley and Diaz will thrive as well. To mark this new era on the Legends brand, Steve Frehley is going to end the reign of Christian Faith as the Supreme champion at When Hell Freezes Over. Standing behind him, looking intense as always and trying to stare a hole through Stone, is Nemesis. The GM asks the Legends champion if he has considered the offer. Stone slowly says that he has. But there really isn't much to consider. The answer is no. Looking obviously unhappy at this answer, Tyler warns that Stone should learn to be grateful. Before its a lesson he is forced to learn. The Canadian veteran certainly doesn't look frightened by the threat. Breathing a big sigh, Tyler says that working together would have made all of this so much easier. It would have allowed the General Manager to schedule a nice, easy title defense for the Legends champion tonight. Instead, he gets a tough one. Someone who is going to give him a tough battle. Someone capable of pinning the Canadian and taking that belt away. Someone like... Mr. Hill. There is no reaction from Stone. Under the hard glare of both Tyler and especially Nemesis, Stone asks if they are done. Tyler dismisses the Legends champion with a wave. He then gives a hard look to his “general”, who nods knowingly. Grade: A
Duane Fry: So what does Tyler have planned for Dan Stone? He doesn't do that well, but neither do Enygma and Roberts. The babyface team get a pretty good pop from the fans when they appear. They display solid teamwork in the early going, but Golden and Bloodstone use cheap tactics to take control. They isolate Valiant and work him over, the fans getting behind the long-haired babyface as he gets beat down and struggles to tag in his partner. The heels seem to have thing well in hand... until they end up arguing. Bloodstone goes for his Bloodstone Mutilation while Golden is calling for tag, presumably so he can be the one to finish off Valiant. Giedroyc jumps in to break the hold, and Golden ends up shouting at Bloodstone. Kristen Pearce then gets involved, verbally berating Bloodstone from the ring apron while he looks progressively angrier. In the meantime, Valiant is able to make the legal tag and he gets a big pop. Giedroyc cleans house, until he's slowed down by a bit of double-team. Then Pearce manges to do distract him, allowing Bloodstone to grab a quick roll-up pin. Valiant is too slow to make the save and the Golden Faction pair take the cheap win. It results in further arguing instead of celebrating. It starts slow, as the pair exchange some heavy shots. There is no focus on size here, as the short but stocky Acid is really only about 20 pounds smaller than Caufield. The early going is Caufield's type of match, but as it moves into bigger offense, the pace quickens and it begins to favor the masked grappler moreso. It goes back and forth, a war that the fans love endlessly. Outside the ring, Acid reverses a throw and puts Caufield into the ring post, and he comes up bleeding. A short time after, the masked man hits an Acid Rain Bomb to the outside. Caufield is clearly wearing down, but Acid has taken plenty of damage through the match as well. Caufield goes for his Danger Drop DDT after a Hardcore American Clothesline, but Acid manages to lock in his Acidity Test finisher. Caufield refuses to submit. Acid suddenly lets go... and he's joined in the ring by his fellow Watchmen Bryan Holmes and JD Morgan. They trio set upon Caufield viciously, which immediately has referee Shane Stones calling for the bell. Just as quickly as it began, the assault is over. Its clear that the Watchmen realize a sustained assault will bring out Caufield's alliance friends. They exit to the side of the stage, and sure enough, Christian Faith and Chris Morrisette are already making their way down to the ring. Chris Caufield Wins at 12:51 via Disqualification Grade: A

Christian Faith, Chris Morrisette + Chris Caufield In-Ring Promo The trio cut a short and concise promo. Caufield says that he's taken far worse beatings in his career. And that he's never given up yet. Its not going to happen now. Then Morrisette takes the microphone, telling the Watchmen that they are setting up a battle that they won't win. That they can't win. Even with Nemesis to lead them, the alliance is just too strong and too unified. Faith then takes over, saying that Steve Frehley is a man that he respects. A man who has accomplished a lot in a fairly short career. A man he still considers a friend, despite Frehley's actions in the past few months. But friend or not, Christian Faith lies down for no man. So the match When Hell Freezes Over is going to be a war if Frehley really hopes to take this belt away from Faith. The kind of war that Faith has made his career on winning. Grade: A
Duane Fry: That is one determined champion! Although Hill has plenty of support at ringside, they stay uninvolved for most of the match. The first half of the match is fairly open as both men get their share of offense, but Stone always has a bit of an edge. As the match moves on, it gradually becomes clear that Hill just doesn't have the answer to maintain any sort of upper hand against the champion. Even resorting to cheap tactics is no effective, as the “Lord of the Ring” has simply seen it all and he makes that clear. The second half of the match is mostly Stone as he gradually takes over. The fans love it, their support fully behind the champion. There is a huge pop as the challenger is hammered by several big Stone Backbreakers. Even attempted interference from Mr. Anderson can't save Mr. Hill, as the champion calmly dispatches Anderson from the ring apron with a running knee strike. Then the champion is back to the challenger to deliver a flurry of Stone Ankle Stomps, setting up his feared Stone Ankle Stretch. It doesn't take Hill long to tap. A bit of an apology here. The show took a ridiculously long time to write up. That might be justifable if it was a PPV-caliber show or something or had some major match write-ups. Instead, it might be one of the most basic shows I've done in a long time. Ah well... I had plans to do a full, detailed write-up for the 2008 Annual Awards ceremony. That isn't going to happen. It would probably take me a month or more to do, the way my motivation has been waning of late. Instead, I'll do a basic report for it. Then I think this thing will follow the lead of TigerKinney and go on hiatus for awhile. I hate to say it, but I have serious doubts that it will return to any real extent. I just don't know that I want to continue to tell the stories here. As I've a couple of times, its just a feeling of "this has gone on long enough" more than burnout or anything like that. Thanks everyone.
I'm a bit surprised about the Acid/Caulfield match. Didn't expect to be that good.
Same. Figured on at least a B. Was also unsure about the Faction-V&G tag match. It would normally be the kind of situation that I would have to give some consideration to. I got lazy booking this show and got lucky.
Even if it doesn't come back its been a hell of a read man, thanks for giving it to us... another great show by the way

Starts a "Thank you BigPapa!" -chant. :)
Thank you, gentlemen.
I'd like to add my thanks to bigpapa for a superb diary :). Have you thought about putting up the game for download? I'm sure i'm not the only one interested in having a look and maybe play ;).
Something I might do once I've made the final decision to end this. At this point, its not over. Officially. That Legends show could end up being the final one (which is sad, because I really don't think the quality is completely there). However, for now, its just the last show for awhile. When the end does come, I will make a comprehensive "where everything was going" post to explain where my storylines were heading.
Aw, shucks... Well, if you need any motivation or ideas, drop me a PM - I can usually think of something, as you know. In the meantime, thanks for a fantastic read, bp. And if and when you do ever get that WWE diary up and running, you know I'll have that front-row seat booked in advance :p
You mean we can Reserve a seat ? I've been wandering around trying to find one for the past month ! :p Anyways, I really hope this does not end, as It's been one hell of a ride, but I can't wait to see your next one Pops

I still thought it was a solid show, myself. In any case, this has definately been a great diary. Easily my favorite, and in many ways the one that inspired me to start one up. While it's true I haven't exactly read every single diary here, I think that many would agree, when I say it's right up there with the elites.

Just wanted to add to the list of growing compliments. This has been a great read for me. I can definately understand you feeling ready to move on to something else. I for one will miss this if you do end it. On a selfish note, I know you are looking at a possible WWE diary, but I hope you stick with CVerse. Either way, I'll be behind the curtain with the velvet belt bag. Best of luck with whatever you come up with, R

That's why it feels like I'm leaving off with plenty untold. Its just lacking motivation, which comes from the "this has gone far enough" feeling I can't shake. Its not burnout - I had plans in place to deal with potential burnout issues. If you have suggestions to get past the "I've done enough" feeling, I'm all ears. And that is part of why I'm not ending it now, but just putting things on hold. I may find my motivation and desire to go forward with Gen-S again, and I'm going to give me some time to see if that happens. As for the WWE diary, its probably going to happen. I really didn't intend to jump right back into another project. But things are just kind of falling into place, so I expect I will go forward with it. It is not intended as a "replacement" for Gen-S, so much as a side project I wanted to try. As for seating arrangements, I can reserve something down from or a nice luxury box for you. Your choice. Best of luck with whatever you come up with, R
Thanks Reaper. You've added so much to this project with your belt renders and I can't thank you enough for that. As for moving to the real world, well, my heart is still in the Cornell Verse. It probably always will be. My problem right now is commitment. There are two possible CV projects that truly interest me right now - Total Championship Wrestling and Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods in the default data. But either of those diaries would require a much greater degree of commitment, in terms of developing characters and writing matches, etc, than I want to make at this point in time. I don't see a point of jumping in on one of those unless I'm going to treat it like I should. There are some other promotions that intrigue me to a smaller degree. But I don't have stories I want to tell with them or significant ideas, so it is unlikely they would last very long. And if that's the case, what's the point? I don't know that a WWE project would go too far. But at least I have ideas and stories I want to tell. Never figured I would be planning on doing a RW project. I kind of ignored RW diaries when I first found GDS and I can't honestly explain why. I've obviously since come to appreciate them. One of the things that appeals about this type of project is an interesting aspect to real work diaries, which is both a benefit and a barrier - the already established characters. I like the fact that it takes away a great deal of the necessity to create entirely new characters and characterizations. At the same time, it creates the problem of having to have your characterizations live up to the expectations people have. Its not just having them act they way that people expect, but sound like it too. If a writer is doing full promo write-ups, its a major challenge. Being that this would be intended as a "streamlined" project, I definitely would not do full promos. Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

I just wanted to toss in a couple of cents worth here and say that if you are truly deciding to end the diary sooner rather than later this will still stand up as one of the best works on this board, both real world and cornellverse combined. I have told you before that you are an excellent writer and that has not changed. I admire the fact that you are making sure you have the time to commit to another diary should you decide to do one, rather than starting something that your heart is not fully into. If you ever need to talk or anything, my pm box is always open.

Do you remember when Hulk dropped Andre? I do. Do you remember when Sting dropped from the rafters and dropped the entire nWo? I do. They were momentous moments for me in wrestling. They exhilarated me. They were some of the few real moments that were able to cut through the veil of fantasy that wrestling always was and made you so emotional and so involved in the moment that you almost psychotically allowed yourself to be taken away and believe in what was happening. When I read your cards, that's exactly how I feel. That's a rare event in my eyes for professional wrestling. I can get caught up in a classic writer like a Robert Louis Stevenson or a Jules Verne or a Margaret Mitchell and find myself engrossed in their world, but its very rare I can feel the same about wrestling. This story I found myself being able to do all that. There's a very, very short list of diary writers that I can apply the same extreme recognition and acknowledgement to, and you are right up there on that list. This to me in some ways was kinda like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours or the Beatles White Album, they perfectly captured the era and environment they found themselves in, are timeless classics, and that's exactly what this is and always will be. You should be really, really proud of this, mate. As a fellow diary writer I feel I've learned a lot from reading your shows. As a good bloke and a mate you've also inspired me behind the scenes, and I really look forward to carrying on our discussions via PM.

Just to say that I agree with the sentiments that have gone before, whether you decide to carry on with this or not...this has been one of the best diaries I have had the pleasure to read on these boards. A little bit of a shame to see if end (if it has) on just a regular TV show but if you've lost the 'passion' for this project, then of course don't force yourself to carry it on. Whatever you decide to do next, be it Cornellverse or Real World I'm sure it will be of the highest quality. I'm a Cornellverse man myself and don't tend to read Real World diaries, but you're such an excellent writer I will certainly take a look at that project were you to go ahead with that.
