TCW: A Quiet Retirement

Recommended Posts

Prediction Key:

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

Eddie Peak has no direction, while Baine is the Syndicate's newly-appointed enforcer.

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

Give them screen time. Give the champs a programme. Give them a feud, beatdowns, angles, more matches than the jobber teams! Anything!

TCW All Action Championship

Edd Stone © vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell

No buildup, no title.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Danny Fonzarelli

Maybe. Maybe. Just not sure...

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

Tyler will put over Law. Maybe.

TCW International Championship

Koshiro Ino © w/ Baroness Emily vs. John Anderson

Anderson will prove himself in singles competition, but not take the gold.

TCW World Heavyweight Championship

Troy Tornado © vs. Brent Hill vs. Wolf Hawkins

Not time to bring Troy's reign to an end.

TCW Hard Hitting Championship - No Holds Barred

Sam Keith © vs. Tommy Cornell

Keith proves that he can bring it against Cornell. Huzzah!

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

TCW All Action Championship

Edd Stone © vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell

I like Art Reed a lot but think that Edd Stone has got this one in the bag.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Danny Fonzarelli

tough call really could go either way.

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

TCW International Championship

Koshiro Ino © w/ Baroness Emily vs. John Anderson

John Anderson is more of a tag wrestler which is why I am going with Koshiro Ino for this one

TCW World Heavyweight Championship

Troy Tornado © vs. Brent Hill vs. Wolf Hawkins

The Champion will retain enough said. Although if Wolf Hawkins were to win it I wouldn't be surprised.

TCW Hard Hitting Championship - No Holds Barred

Sam Keith © vs. Tommy Cornell

I hope Keith will go over in this match but being that Cornell can be stubborn because it is his company I could see Tommy Cornell winning it but hopefully not.

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

Brutal bout to start the show - I'll go with the Syndicate man

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

I've never had chance to use either of The New Wave guys, but I really like them as a team so I'm going with them here

TCW All Action Championship

Edd Stone © vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell

I like how you built up Art's challenge to Edd on that last show just by mentioning Art's prior history. But Edd goes over anyway.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Danny Fonzarelli

This filler match could go either way. I'll take Rockwell's team while you have a bit of a man-crush on him. Don't worry, he's another guy I'd love to use in my diary if I could!

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

Hopefully Tyler puts Law over here. I like Tyler's character but it works best if he then puts over the younger talent in the big matches.

TCW International Championship

Koshiro Ino © w/ Baroness Emily vs. John Anderson

I'm not sure on this one but I'm thinking there'll be one title change and I see this as most likely. Plus, one Machine with singles gold and the other not could be interesting down the line.

TCW World Heavyweight Championship

Troy Tornado © vs. Brent Hill vs. Wolf Hawkins

I don't see the title switching here, especially when it's not the key match on the card. It wouldn't make a switch meaningful enough to me.

TCW Hard Hitting Championship - No Holds Barred

Sam Keith © vs. Tommy Cornell

I'm going with Keith to really prove a point to Cornell here. Cornell will doubtless get his win back somewhere along the line but it would be great to see Keith pull out at least one major win against him.

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

Baine needs the momentum, since the law of dramatic causality ensures that he'll be the only Syndicate member to really do well.

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

Build a feud, because I'm smelling money. School of Tradition should come off looking really good here, but fail to get the win. This'll have the two pronged approach of giving Deeley some more screen time, while giving TNW something meaningful to do.

TCW All Action Championship

Edd Stone © vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell

Edd Stone is good for the belt, and the belt is good for Edd Stone. However, I see this turning into a very good feud, with a possible show of respect leading to further Syndicate implosion and even a possible Stone face turn

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Danny Fonzarelli

Frankie hasn't been going up the card all that quick, and Ricky Dale shouldn't get jobbed. That said, Rockwell losing this match when Perez gets pinned is a good way to introduce Perez to the Ino/Rockwell feud, since he's moving up the card anyway.

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

By something cheap

TCW International Championship

Koshiro Ino © w/ Baroness Emily vs. John Anderson

The Syndicate is imploding. This is a microcoosm of that, as an Anderson title run will cause him to split the team and get a huge ego, leading to the Brent Hill face turn. Ino losing the belt will also give Rockwell something to gloat over despite losing by proxy in the earlier tag match.

TCW World Heavyweight Championship

Troy Tornado © vs. Brent Hill vs. Wolf Hawkins

I don't like the World championship match not being the main event. That said, Troy needs this to piss off Cornell. Anderson's title win and subsequent Hill face turn will piss off Cornell. Hawkins failing to win the title will piss off Cornell, and potentially lead to a Hawkins/Cornell feud to take over when Keith inevitably retires, though who'll be the face in that one is still up for grabs.

TCW Hard Hitting Championship - No Holds Barred

Sam Keith © vs. Tommy Cornell

Probably by something cheap. Let Cornell gloat about beating the hell out of Keith and teaching him his place, while giving Keith more moral ground to stand on. Bonus points if Matt and Greg show up at ringside to bail daddy out during a post match beatdown. Even more bonus points if the rest of the Syndicate (except for Baine) is too cheesed off by a prematch Cornell rant to come down and help.

Jason Azaria – Mayhem Midden - Horatio Dangerous

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TysonBaine_nachtfalter16.jpg

Number of the Beast begins to play, the arena dims, and the lit entrance ramp shines a sombre red, a coal in the darkness. Tyson Baine emerges, Syndicate-suited, and stalks down to the ring with a purpose, pausing every few steps to glower at one of another of the fans in attendance.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpg

A shadow flows along the length of the ramp's light, then repeats. The opening notes of the famous Jaws anthem begin to play, swiftly transitioning into Crashing Around You by Machine Head as the arena's lights begin to come back up and Eddie Peak appears, wearing street clothes; jeans and his ALPHA-1 wifebeater. He pauses at the top of the ramp, looking at Baine, then nods, grinning that insane, brutal grin. For a second he drags his thumbnail across a tooth, as if sharpening the nail; then, with a single swift slash across his chest, he uses that nail to rip the wifebeater open and sprints to the ring.

Eddie Peak vs. Tyson Baine

Concentrating on their specialities, giving each other a target to really focus on, this brawl – for brawl it is, as Sam Sparrow gives up complaining about closed fists thirty seconds in, after Peak and Baine simultaneously turn to him with hands raised and the ref bails – is one of the best efforts either man's been involved with in some time, certainly in solo terms.

Highlights – on the outside, Peak backdrops a charging Baine into the fans, sending the front four rows scrambling from their chairs as the behemoth lands. The chairs themselves buckle; for the remainder of the match, arena staff can be seen hustling to put out replacements. Peak, meanwhile, clambers precariously onto the crowd barrier and comes off in a splash onto the downed Syndicate man.

Baine, fighting back, presses Peak into the air and actually tosses him from the outside, over the top rope, into the ring.

The Syndicate suit is torn from Baine's back as Peak uses bits of it to choke him.

Baine, having rammed Peak into the ringpost on the outside, steps back – and smashes his head against the post with a big boot.

Ultimately, back in the ring, the Syndicate's enforcer hits the Hades Bomb and grabs the ropes to ensure a dubious three count.

The New Wave © vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

A complete change of pace, as these four men go old-school technical throughout, with surprisingly little in the way of underhanded methods by the School of Tradition.

Deeley in particular seems determined to do it all himself – which causes issues, of course, but whenever Bryant gets in he only needs a little adjustment, a thumb to the eye or a hand on the ropes, to adjust things back.

Toward the end, Deeley's back in the ring, and Guide stalks him for the Guided Missile. Laura Huggins hops onto the apron, stalling Guide, who eats a DDT for his leniency.

That does ensure that Scout makes no such mistake, breaking up the pin, making a blind tag, chopping Deeley down and clamping on the Special Force, making for a swift submission as Bryant is blocked by Guide.

At ringside, Laura Huggins throws in the towel for the submission.

A pre-filmed video airs next. Horatio Dangerous sits on the opposite side of the TCW conference table from Brent Hill.

Lying between them are three championship belts. Dangerous smiles.

“I know this man's history,” he tells the camera. “I know, however, that not everyone does.

“So let's talk about it. Brent...” His hand taps at one of the belts.

“Tell me about this.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/One-Offs/PPPWTri-State.jpg

Hill smiles easily. “Philly Power Pro Wrestling,” he says. “The Tri-State Championship. For a brief while there, it was one of the most prized championships on the independent circuit.

“That was during the East Coast War.

“I held that championship three times. I defended it against so many people. Tom Gilmore, to pick a name the fans will recognise. You, of course.”

Dangerous nods. “You beat me hands down, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

“But... Seems to me you beat someone else for it, Brent.”

Hill smiles readily. “Yeah, I did at that.”

“Someone these fans will recognise?”

Hill nods. “Several times.

“I beat Tommy Cornell for a championship, and my God, it made him so mad...”

Dangerous nods. “Now, what's impressive, to me, about those three championships...” His hand touches another of the belts.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/One-Offs/RPWWorld.jpg

Belt credit to ReapeR again

“Rapid Pro Wrestling,” Brent nods. “Right. Yeah... I held the Philly Power Pro Wrestling Tri-State Championship at it's hottest. I held it three times.

“But if I get what you're driving at...”

“You spent a chunk of that time wrestling for bitter rivals Rapid Pro,” Dangerous fills in smoothly. “Where you also won gold, and stayed there for a long time – which meant you had less time to amass a better record than anyone else.

“And at Rapid, you wrestled legends of the time. Men like Steve Flash, when he was at his best, and others who've retired now.

“That was no cakewalk.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TCWTagTeam.jpg

“And then... there's a gap, and finally this.” Now his hand touches the familiar gold of the TCW Tag Team Championship belt. “Nine years?”

“Nearly that,” Hill nods. “Nine years without gold, or a little under. The funny thing is, I knew John back then, and we had quite the rivalry... Never would have expected to be allies, but we're better together than I could have imagined.

“But sometimes, you get the hunger. Singles gold. And John understands.”

“Does Tommy?”

“Probably.” Hill laughs. “But he doesn't want to admit that!

“The Syndicate... what's left is still dangerous. And I'm sure Tommy has something up his sleeve to make it dangerous again.

“I just can't be part of it anymore. I need to wrestle, I need to prove myself.

“And I won't get that chance, unless I step out from their rules. We're better, me and John, than just interference.

“I don't regret the time I spent there. I don't regret – much as people are trying to make me – the things we did there. But the Syndicate isn't where the Machines should be, not anymore.

“But I'll tell you this, Dangerous. Ten years ago, I wrestled you for this belt, I wrestled Cornell for this belt, and I beat you both...

“And ten years ago, I wasn't as good as I am now.

“And Wolf Hawkins is not as good as Tommy Cornell ten years ago.

“I knew Troy back then, too. He doesn't worry me as much as he probably thinks he does.

“I don't promise to walk away with the title. But I promise I'll have done my very best when the bell sounds at the end.”

Edd Stone © vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell

Not the greatest All-Action match ever seen, but not a bad one.

It started off... oddly... when Edd Stone insisted that music play over the match. Dance music.

That only lasted a short while – Mayhem Midden put a stop to it with a couple of growls from the announce table to the production crew. But Edd did have time to mingle capoeira and breakdancing before the music went away.

As the music died, the two transitioned to a more standard airborne wrestler/mat wrestler match, notable in no small part for a sequence where Reed grabbed a doubled-over Stone, hoisted him for a powerbomb – and as Edd countered, Reed twisted, turning it into a cutter.

The resulting pin cover saw Edd kick out and come back with a wheelbarrow into a headscissors, before seeming to almost goad Reed until he tried for a powerbomb again.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins_alt3.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JohnnyBloodstone_alt2.jpg

It's not looking good, overall, for Edd, and that's sure to be why Wolf Hawkins finds himself in the ring. Art dodges the first swing and dodges a charge by Edd, sending him outside, and Eugene Williams steers Hawkins away as Johnny Bloodstone materialises at ringside.

Stone and Bloodstone brawl on the outside, with Eugene Williams given little choice but to count Edd out.

Walk This Way begins to play, and Chris Rockwell promptly emerges – and right behind him is Frankie Perez.

Rockwell raises a microphone to his lips. “What's going on here?” he demands.

“Hotter Than Hell. Alderbrook Grounds. One of the biggest arenas TCW has seen in years.

“One of the biggest shows we've had, then?

“No. Where am I? Where's my match? Why is Chris Rockwell not represented?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MayhemMidden.jpg

Midden stands up. “Let me answer that, Chris,” he says. “Because there's actually an answer.

“I doubt-”

“Koshiro Ino,” Midden overrides smartly, “offered you, some time ago, a rematch for the International Championship.

“He believed you might be interested in a chance to win fairly.”

“I won that match!” Rockwell snaps. “And it was his woman who cheated-”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/CharlieThatcher_nac2.jpg

“I'm not actually arguing, Chris,” Midden says mildly, as Charlie Thatcher rises beside him, pulling on his brass knuckles. “I'm talking. Now let me finish.

“The Kobra offered you a championship match, and you turned it down. Didn't want to risk a loss, you said, when you'd beaten him once.

“I don't have room for someone like that on Pay-Per-View, Chris. Pay-Per-View is for the wrestlers who train and work hard and want to actually prove things.

“Matter of fact, that man next to you, your buddy Perez – I'd let him on. He wants to wrestle, even if he loses. He's said so.

“But you, Chris... You had your chance.”

“This is bull-”

“Actually, though,” Midden comes back. “Maybe... Yeah, what the hell. Frankie, you're happy to wrestle, right?”

Perez nods.

“Good,” Midden says. “You two have a tag match, starting right now, against... No, I don't actually care. First two hard-working wrestlers to come out and reach the wring get a match on Pay-Per-View against these two.”

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Danny Fonzarelli

More exciting tag team action here sees a much heavier shade of dirty tactics, with Frankie Perez in particular pulling one card almost constantly.

Every time Danny Fonzarelli gets any kind of advantage over Perez, the P-Dawg reaches out, grabbing a handful of hair and yanking him to the mat to change things. It takes everything Ricky Dale Johnson has to redress the balance, and Rockwell is equally savage in his assault.

RDJ, fortunately for him perhaps, is immune to Perez' hair-pull strategy. He and Rockwell seem evenly matched throughout, but in the end it's the greater level of teamwork that carries it. RDJ cuts Perez off and hits the Southern Justice to clinch it.

A recap video airs next, covering the key moments from the School of Tradition's war with Rick Law, notably the assaults, the Badge of Honor main events, and the continuing involvement of Aaron Andrews and Joey Minnesota.

Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rick Law

Tyler and Law go at it here, and the results seem to be good, with the crowd behind Law from the off.

Tyler's weakness throughout his TCW tenure has been, simply, age and the issues it gives you in recuperating. Law has the advantage every time he delivers a hard, powerful shot – but Tyler has his own arsenal, mostly involving brutal holds, and that allows him to keep things even for quite a while.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/ShooterSeanDeeley.jpg

And then he gets assistance. Tyler collapses, drawing Sam Sparrow's attention, and Sean Deeley jumps Law from behind, doing quite well for a while in wearing down his arm – but Law manages to block, rally, and he lifts Deeley for the Squad Car Slam – but cuts off halfway, as a desperate Laura Huggins' cries make him hesitate.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AaronAndrews.jpg

Deeley wriggles free – and promptly gets spinebustered by new arrival Aaron Andrews, who drags him out of the ring while the cameras capture Laura Huggins' horrified expression. Law, meanwhile, grabs Tyler and hurls him to the ropes, meeting him on the return with the Long Arm of the Law – which picks up the pinfall after nearly twenty minutes.

Koshiro Ino © w/ Baroness Emily vs. John Anderson

Startlingly good, startlingly captivating; the crowd are into this from the off.

Anderson and Ino are, once again, seemingly exactly even, until Ino tries for a spear and Anderson dodges. Ino's head crashes off the ringpost and he tumbles out of the ring, hitting the mats outside with an audible smack.

That definitely gives Anderson a real advantage, and he takes it, working Ino over with a series of holds targeting the shoulders – by the looks of things, preventing Ino from blocking the Ammo Dump being his strategy.

The Kobra, groggy, bleeding, fights back as best he can, but Anderson has a definite advantage.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins_alt3.jpg

And then Wolf Hawkins rolls into the ring for the second time on the night. Anderson catches a Full Moon Rising.

A dazed Ino crawls for the cover, but it takes a little too long and Anderson kicks out by the skin of his teeth. Hawkins, already halfway back to the locker room, looks visibly frustrated as the Machine ducks the Kobra's Bite, boots Ino in the gut on the turn, hooks the arms, and lands the Ammo Dump right onto that injured head, making the pinfall academic – and giving TCW a new International Championship.

Back in the locker room, Cornell recoils from the TV in frustration. “Trust Anderson to finally remember how to wrestle after we kick him loose,” he growls, as Baine and Stone listen. “Alright. We're going to have to figure something out, then, for him. But right now... OK. Tonight.” Baine nods.

“Tonight, boys, we're two for two." Stone pats his dubiously-retained championship. "And with two to go, I aim to keep that perfect. So, let's talk strategy for getting the rest of the titles back.. “

Troy Tornado © vs. Brent Hill vs. Wolf Hawkins

Hectic. Three men who all have speed on their side and a dazzling array of moves between them, and they've all got a good reason to go all out.

So it's no wonder, really, that once again Jason Azaria finds himself not quite able to keep pace with the play-by-play.

It's no wonder that the three men on the announce team can only just keep it together.

And something else, of course, that's no wonder is that the three men in the match aren't the only ones who get involved.

The Syndicate strike in numbers around the ten minute mark. As Edd Stone launches himself off the top rope onto Brent Hill with a massive missile dropkick, Tyson Baine has Tornado by the throat – a massive chokeslam from ring to floor follows, leaving the champion entirely out of it.

Hawkins covers Hill, who kicks out. Furious, Hawkins unleashes the Full Moon Rising just as Hill gets to his knees.

Once again, he covers, only to be dragged off Hill's prone form by John Anderson.

Anderson drops Hawkins with the Ammo Dump and, as all three participants lie dazed, the action follows the new International Champion sprinting backstage as Baine and Stone pursue him with worried expressions.

Hawkins still manages to recover first, crawling over to cover Hill. One, two – and Troy Tornado breaks it with a legdrop to the back of Hawkins' head, much to the crowd's satisfaction. The three men exchange blows for a few moments before Tornado ducks Hawkins' swing, hitting the ropes to sink Cornell's protege with a Star Maker. Brent Hill adds a coup de grace with the King of the Hill, and Troy promptly drops him as he rises using the Tornado Driver.

The champion promptly hooks Wolf Hawkins' leg securely as Eugene Williams counts to three.

The camera goes backstage, as Sam Keith's locker room door opens. Backed by Johnny Bloodstone and the voluptuous Blonde Bombshell, Keith begins walking toward the ring.

“Sam.” Keith stops, turning to the man who's spoken – Ricky Dale Johnson.

RDJ nods acknowledgement. “When he's setting up for the Rough Ride, his right eye always closes, just for an instant. Watch for that.”

Keith nods.

“Good luck,” RDJ adds as the procession continues.

Troy Tornado, covered in sweat, title over his shoulder, holds out his fist. “Knock him on his ass,” he says, and Keith touches fist, nodding respectfully. Bloodstone claps a hand supportively on the Hard Hitting Champion's shoulder.

Sam Keith © w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell

In all honesty, Jason Azaria doesn't have the chops to call this one.

A full half hour of some of the best, nastiest submission wrestling you'll ever see, with all those moves that usually get banned, it leaves everyone behind and, sadly, suffers for it.

Keith has spent a lifetime learning all the quasi-legal tricks that become roundly supported in No Holds Barred matches, and it's that experience that keeps the edge on his side for the bulk of the match. No weapons, and Cornell seems determined to maim, which is an awkward combination; during a period where, both men bleeding, Keith sits slumped against the ring apron outside the ring, Cornell hits the far ropes and comes back at speed, dropkicking the champion in the back of the head; but he seems to catch, somehow, on the bottom rope and it springs free and loose.

Keith is substantially slower than Tommy, and the result becomes something like a bullfighter against the world's savviest bull.

A little while later, back in the ring, that's what decides it; Sam Keith sees Cornell set up for the Rough Ride, knees him in the happy sacks, DDTs him, and loops the bottom rope around his shoulders, wrenching them even further back than usual with that leverage as he applies one of the nastiest-looking Proton Locks in history.

Cornell fights it, and fights it, and fights it... But then there's a wet pop, audible from the cameras, and as his face changes shade he submits frantically.

Cornell finds his way slowly to his feet, obviously in pain, holding one arm awkwardly. Sam Keith is still in the ring, watching him, and as Cornell turns to face him Keith raises his arm into the air, holding the Hard-Hitting Championship high in the air before handing it to Sam Sparrow who fastens it around his waist as Cornell and Keith stare down, a stunned expression on the face of the Syndicate leader.

Sounds to me like you need a new play-by-play man. Someone like Tommy London maybe?

Great stuff though, cracking show.

The last couple PPVs have both been hurt in the main event that way, yeah. London would be a good choice if he was off his Written. Other than that, better than Azaria I've only really got Fry, Michaels and Mitch Naess, and of course Naess won't sign exclusively...

Glad you liked the show, though.

Extremely nice show. There's a part of me that wants to call Keith/Cornell getting a B+ karmic justice for making them the main event over the World title, but I'll let it go. I also admit there's a sick part of me that wanted to see Cornell get the win, since the HH title is the one that can afford to be hotshotted around.

I personally hate - this is OOC - making any other match take precedent over the World Championship, save for something like the Royal Rumble. It should be your biggest championship, it should have the best build, it should be held by capable talents, and therefore it should be up at the top.

(Exceptions: a champion is goaded into letting the match start early in show for booking reasons).

In this case, however, I couldn't see Tommy Cornell not taking the main event here - not when this really is a Dream Match as far as the C-Verse is concerned.

You aren't going to shut this thing down because of TEW'10, are you? Please don't shut it down. The drones, they look up to you!

The plan is to play through to year's end, then carry the database across to TEW10, update it to reflect the year's passing, and start a game there.

I've got to figure out whether or not to take advantage of some of the newer features, though - specifically, whether TCW will have it's own 'signature' arena (if so, where and how large), and things like what Horatio Dangerous' scores in the points will start out at.

But that's the plan...

Outstanding show Phantom. For those who missed the show I have inclosed a pic showing the fans reaction of Tommy losing.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/book_open-2.jpg

Monday 1st September 2008

It may be Tuesday by now. I haven't slept since Hotter than Hell finished, either – it's been crazy.

Before the traditional post-PPV party finished, someone – I forget who – burst in with news. It's on all the dirtsheets and half the SWF wrestler blogs right now...

Peter Michaels has lost the book over there. Unless the new booker gets in by tomorrow, I feel very sorry for them – they'll have one show to build to the next PPV.

The timing is suspicious – I don't think that it's a result of Peter's work, frankly. I think Richard Eisen's panicked about the reported buyrate for Hotter Than Hell – the best we've ever done, broadcast from an arena that's bigger than we'd usually have hired.

So Eisen's scrambling to find something – anything – to reverse the trend, despite the fact that the trend is purely within TCW. It's not something he can affect.

Or maybe he's just worried about losing talent to us, given SWF's contract woes at the moment – and a new booker might seem like a good way of persuading that talent that things will be turning around.

Anyway, THAT meant that the party didn't finish all night. (I think Sam's still a little bitter about losing the book last year.) We were still celebrating when we got to the airport.

Which was when Tommy and I got calls asking for comment.

The pro wrestling press appear to have decided that not only are we the biggest promotion around – but with Pay-Per-View almost everywhere and spreading TV deals, we're a truly global presence. I imagine that this decision came today on the heels of a best-ever buyrate coupled with crisis in the SWF, but the result is a PR bonanza which kept me busy through most of the flight (thank God for cellphones being allowed in first class).

And then we touched down, and Tommy got another call. This one was about something he hadn't mentioned was coming down the pipe, and the timing of the call may, again, be down to all this news.

FREEDOM Caribbean Wrestling, a smallish outfit that's about a year old now working out of Puerto Rico, has agreed to serve TCW as a secondary development federation.

Which meant that, just as I got home and the boys headed off to a house show in the area, when I wanted to just get to sleep, I found myself looking for a set of trainers to hire for a second dev fed.

It's... yes, it's nearly 1am, and Maggie's asleep. It's time I was. Goodnight.

Just on the whole main eventing with a match other than the World Title match, here's my two cents.

Normally that is the case, but occasionally you can have a situation where putting your World Title on last would be suicide. A good example of this is where TNA main evented a ppv with Joe vs AJ vs Daniels for the X Division title, which was a strong idea. Even before the show it was clear that the X match as a potential classic, and no World title match could have possibly followed it. The Hard Hitting title match, to me, is a similar situation. The World title should be strong enough to take the hit on the right occasion, and as a by-produt, the secondary title is given the boost of being seen as being worthy to main event a pay per view.

Occasionally, insisting on putting a World Title match on last can hurt it. Mania 25 is a great example. HHH and Orton were never going to be able to follow HBK and Taker. That should have closed the show.

What better way to begin the month of September than with an International Championship title defence? That's what Tommy Cornell asked, and that's what we'll be giving you, as John Anderson puts his newly-won International Championship belt on the line against the Syndicate's fortunate son, Wolf Hawkins!

It doesn't look like we're slowing down from there, either. Koshiro Ino, the defeated champion, will have an opportunity to get back to winning ways as he takes on the American Buffalo.

Tag team action follows, as the team of Andrews & Minnesota lock up with the British Lions in what's sure to be a technically-minded contest with a lot going for it.

And Fumihiro Ota gets a shot at the big time - he steps into the ring with former World Heavyweight Champion Ricky Dale Johnson.

More titles are on the line tonight - the New Wave, told of their scheduled contest against Freddy Huggins and Sammy Bach, offered to put the belts on the line. How would a win for Huggins and Bach cause Huggins' regular tag partner, Eric Tyler, to react?

By order of Tommy Cornell, the Keith Brothers are back in tag action after their explosive debut week closing out August - they'll face Chris Rockwell and Frankie Perez. This young pairing took the Machines almost to the limit - how will Rockwell and Perez fare against such intuitive understanding?

A chance to elevate their game also comes for the Easy Riders, facing off with the unlikely pairing of Rick Law and Rocky Golden.

And, lastly, Sam Keith and staunch ally Johnny Bloodstone are set to team up against Tommy Cornell and Tyson Baine in what looks to be a simply brutal main event. How's Tommy Cornell's shoulder after that vicious rope-aided Proton Lock on Sunday? Will he even need to be in the ring, given the momentum Tyson Baine's been developing?

Prediction Key:

TCW International Championship

John Anderson © vs. Wolf Hawkins

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Andrews & Minnesota vs. British Lions

Fumihiro Ota vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. Freddy Huggins & Sammy Bach w/ Laura Huggins

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rick Law & Rocky Golden

TCW International Championship

John Anderson © vs. Wolf Hawkins

No hotshots here.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Ino needs momentum back, and the Buffalo can easily be sacrificed for that.

Andrews & Minnesota vs. British Lions

No upsets here, not yet.

Fumihiro Ota vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

Sorry, Fumi.

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. Freddy Huggins & Sammy Bach w/ Laura Huggins

Send a real team, then we'll talk.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

I don't know. Let's say that the Keiths are jobbing their way to the top.

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rick Law & Rocky Golden

Rocky blows it and gets pinned. And Law has to lose, it's not Badge Of Honour.

Sam Keith & Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & Tyson Baine

Maaaaaaaybe. Not sure at all. Tyson kind of swings things away, though.

TCW International Championship

John Anderson © vs. Wolf Hawkins

I agree with Regis I don't see you hot-shotting the belt here.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Ino gets back on track with a win against directionless midcard bully American Buffalo.

Andrews & Minnesota vs. British Lions

Andrews & Minnesota are more established on the TCW roster. Seriously give those two a proper team name, as it doesn't look like they'll be getting singles pushes anytime soon.

Fumihiro Ota vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

The Ninja's getting squashed

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. Freddy Huggins & Sammy Bach w/ Laura Huggins

The champs aren't going to lose to a randomnly cobbled together team.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

If this was Perez and another lower end midcarder, I'd say the Keith's might just win here but as Morrisette is teaming up with Frankie, Sam's Boys have to go through another 'learning experience' before the trigger is pulled on their push for real.

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rick Law & Rocky Golden

Rocky Golden might be about as directionless as American Buffalo, but I can't see you jobbing two upper card workers to the Easy Riders..even if you are trying to get the Riders over as a threatening 'bully' heel tag team. Wouldn't be surprised to see this one go DQ though.

Sam Keith & Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & Tyson Baine

Tommy with his monster enforcer beside him hands out some payback on Keith.

TCW International Championship

John Anderson © vs. Wolf Hawkins

Wolf loses here, to continue building tension between him and Cornell. A future feud has to be inevitable.

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Buffalo's been a bit lost, while Ino needs momentum for his feud with Rockwell. Also a potential Buffalo win by Rockwell interferance.

Andrews & Minnesota vs. British Lions

Nice to see Merle and Walter on the main show, but they're still here just to do the job.

Fumihiro Ota vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

RDJ doesn't get jobbed out for Ota.

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. Freddy Huggins & Sammy Bach w/ Laura Huggins

Continue building the feud. The Tag Team belts are among those that wouldn't be damaged overmuch by hotshotting, though, if Huggins is going to turn on Tyler. However, I'm going with TNW, if only because Bach hasn't been up to much lately.

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Rockwell needs a win. The Keith Brothers are still playing their dues.

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rick Law & Rocky Golden

Rick Law continues his build. Here's an idea: The feud with Tyler makes Law progressively more vicious, until he turns. Then he can start really abusing his power over on Badge of Honor.

Sam Keith & Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & Tyson Baine

Cornell needs momentum back, and Baine's been on a roll. Plus, if Keith keeps winning, the feud won't have legs.

This is a great diary, definitely one of the best I have ever read.

Prediction Key:

TCW International Championship

John Anderson © vs. Wolf Hawkins

Anderson isn´t losing his first title defence

American Buffalo w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

I agree with others here, Ino gets back some of his lost momentum

Andrews & Minnesota vs. British Lions

Better and more established team at this point

Fumihiro Ota vs. Ricky Dale Johnson

No contest here

TCW Tag Team Championship

The New Wave © vs. Freddy Huggins & Sammy Bach w/ Laura Huggins

Random team isn´t going to win tag belts

Chris Rockwell & Frankie Perez vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Keith brothers are talented but they are still rookies

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. Rick Law & Rocky Golden

Just to give Golden a win

Sam Keith & Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Tommy Cornell & Tyson Baine

Keith won in PPV so now is Cornell´s time to get a win
