TCW: A Quiet Retirement

Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Texas Pete (non-title)

The major purpose of non-title matches is to set up title matches down the line, and with Pete having apparently improved a lot I could see him as a viable contender

The Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Quick question: what the heck do you see in Bombshell? She's worthless. Hence my rooting for the Fly Boys, who have a manager who can actually, y'know, do stuff

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

C'mon, this is Remo- the dude's bad@ss

Ricky Dale Johnson vs. Tyson Baine

Tyson's too big, too boring and too useless to get the win here

The Machines vs. The Stone Brothers

I like Edd, but I can't take him seriously as a tag wrestler on the level of The Machines

Tommy Cornell vs. Troy Tornado (non-title)

Tommy needs to be kept strong so he can take the title if you run into trouble

Her mic skills have developed significantly since she was brought back, angles featuring her have made her overness rocket, her star quality, sex appeal and charisma are all good, all of which adds up to a great ringside valet.

Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Texas Pete (non-title)

Even with Pete's huge improvement and this being non title, I just don't see him going over Keith yet.

The Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell

Keith's are already higher up the pecking order than the Fly Boys, why send them backwards with a loss against a pair of glorified jobbers.

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

Deeley's push is a gradual one, he isn't going to be going over Remo anytime soon.

Ricky Dale Johnson vs. Tyson Baine

Baine has basically been reduced to Cornell's 'Big Dumb Muscle', though he's 'Big Dumb Muscle' that should remain looking a threat, so I see RDJ winning but by DQ.

The Machines vs. The Stone Brothers

Could go either way, but I'll tip the side with more Tag Experience on their side, that being the ex Syndicate pairing.

Tommy Cornell vs. Troy Tornado (non-title)

A loss to Cornell isn't going to damage Tornado's reputation, and as 1PW fan said better to keep Cornell strong, incase you need to put the title back on him.

Sorry for the laziness but I agree with TK 100% here.

They must have improved a hell of a lot- I don't have th 08 data in front of me but in 2k10 she's D D+, which I wouldn't sign if you paid me, overness or not.

But then (and not to get too far off topic) I don't tend to go for valets as a rule- if they're already there or I need to replace one then fine, but I don't see the point otherwise.

A few managers got nerfed in the switch from '08 to '10. Bombshell may have been one.

I like managers more than valets, but then, I'm hoping that as each manager's client reaches the point where they merit promo time, I can bring something out about each of the valets - so that they become managers. Bombshell hasn't said much along these lines, but she's said somethings. Huggins has thrown in towels, punched her brother, promoed occasionally...

As to why I hired the Bombshell, I quote from her bio:

She had proved to be a hit with the fans during her short stay, and rumours persist that TCW are trying to negotiate a way for her to return in 2007.

Given this is the 2008 data, I assume that bio just didn't get updated - so OK, TCW were trying to find a way to bring an old talent back. Why did I sign the Bombshell? Same reason I didn't fire Kyle Rhodes right off the bat and bring in Sara Silver.

As for whether she can pull her weight...

What are their stats? :)

Eddie:

Remo:

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/One-Offs/remostats.jpg

Remo's better along the top, Eddie has better fundamentals and great (for a big guy) selling.

You know, I bet the SWF REALLY wants Eddie Peak right now. :) In any case, the only things I can see that lowered Eddie Peaks grade against Tommy Cornell are his lack of Athleticism, and his extremely low Technical skills.

That's what I figure, yeah. I'm trying to expose Eddie and Remo both to as many people who can produce against them while also helping them develop their weak spots as possible, though.

In a test mod I did, I could easily have Tommy Cornell against Eddie Peak and get an A right off the bat with their default stats, using a popularity-based product. Someone, who might have been Bigpapa42, said popular yet talented workers easily have good matches in a popularity-based promotion.

Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Texas Pete</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Pete continues to perform well, and if the other man here gets most of the crowd reaction, well, that can easily happen when you're facing off against Sam Keith. </p><p> </p><p>

Actually, after an early spell where he can't find his footing, Pete cuts off Keith's assault with a clothesline – and then he begins to turn the tide. He's got the power to back it up, and his speed is improving; Sam repeatedly finds himself in positions where he just doesn't have the power to stop Pete's assault.</p><p> </p><p>

Pete gets as far as boosting him into the air for the Lone Star Drop – a suplex hoist into a sitout DDT – but, after delivering it, something interrupts the match.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SammyBach_alt1.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Sammy Bach slingshots himself into the ring, tossing a chair ahead of him and legdropping it out of the air into Sam Keith's face. </p><p> </p><p>

Seconds before what could have been a major, career-making victory, Texas Pete is disqualified.</p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Sam Keith won by DQ</span></p><p>

The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

There's no question but that this is a hectic one, and by the standards of the Fly Boys it's one of their very best performances to date. By the Keiths' standards, a little lower, but this is still an excellent contest that both sides have chances to shine in.</p><p> </p><p>

Midway through the contest, all four men are involved in the action, and it's a quick duck by Matthew Keith that starts to turn the tide; Jimmy P's slingshot clothesline catches Donnie, not Matthew, and that gives the Keiths the chance to treat their opponents one at a time, doling out double-team treatment first to Jimmy, then Donnie, then Jimmy... Eventually Greg applies a Proton Lock on Donnie, while Matthew blocks Jimmy from interfering. The hold is just as deadly in the twins' hands as in their father's.</p><p>

Wolf Hawkins and Tommy Cornell sit backstage, watching the TV. “We need to deal with that family,” Cornell says. “I've got to miss a title match at Malice in Wonderland thanks to Midden – can't get back in contention til Total Mayhem. That gives us a couple months, right?”</p><p> </p><p>

Hawkins murmurs something that might be agreement. Cornell looks across to him. “What's the matter with you?” he asks, and Hawkins remains silent.</p><p> </p><p>

Cornell frowns irritably. “Oh, not this <em>again</em>,” he sighs. “You're going nowhere but right by my side, Wolf. Aaron's just useful-”</p><p> </p><p>

“Whatever,” Hawkins growls. “You want to say that, that's your privilege.”</p><p> </p><p>

Cornell stabs a finger back at the screen. “The only reason you've got this poisonous damn idea in your head is that traitor in the first place! He's the one who put it there. He's screwing with you, Wolf. He's trying to make you a weak link for the Syndicate. And weak links-”</p><p> </p><p>

“What?” Hawkins snaps. “What do they do, Tommy? Do they get replaced?”</p><p> </p><p>

He stands up and heads out, pausing at the door. “You're right about one thing,” he says. “You won't be defending your belt at Malice in Wonderland. The biggest show of the year. The event everyone works for, and you're locked out of the main event. But you know what, Tommy? <em>I'll </em>be defending a belt.”</p><p> </p><p>

The door slams behind him.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Once more we go to a promo video. This one concentrates heavily on Lauren Easter's work in AAA, intercut with Chris Rockwell's slow descent into madness. Over it all, Rockwell speaks.</em></p><p> </p><p>

“Before I got into the business, there was a Dangerous. When I left Philly Pro, there was a Dangerous.</p><p> </p><p>

“Everywhere I turn in this business. Everywhere I find success, I find a Dangerous. All of them coasting on the reputation of the generation before them. All of them smug, self-satisfied little bastards – and none of them have anything to back it up! The hack on the microphone never won a title in his life!” A snort. </p><p> </p><p>

“Practically the only friend of Sam Strong who never managed to get any gold out of it. But don't let him tell you he didn't try.</p><p> </p><p>

Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert vs. Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Well, this is a rivalry that could have legs – Deeley and Richardson come from completely different backgrounds in terms of wrestling, but it looks like they still know exactly how to deal with the other, and both Richardson and Deeley look spectacular at moments.</p><p> </p><p>

But there are still issues on the horizon for both men, and in this match it's Sean whose demons come back to haunt him. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FreddyHuggins.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Laura Huggins tries to stop Freddy from getting to the ring, but he shoves her to the ground, sliding in. Vibert catches Sam Sparrow's attention; meanwhile, Deeley manages to squirm out of the Destroyer before Remo can hit it. He turns around into a Huggins Kiss, however, and a Destroyer follows almost immediately as Huggins bails.</p><p> </p><p>

Deeley's good, but it takes more than that to kick out of a Destroyer.</p><p>

Ricky Dale Johnson vs. Tyson Baine</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

This was never going to live up to the preceding contest, but it doesn't let the crowd's attention wander too far away, either. RDJ and Baine are as evenly matched as always – sonething worth remembering, given how near-unstoppable Baine has been of late – which causes the match to run and run.</p><p> </p><p>

Both men kick out of a number of pinfall attempts, but RDJ is clearly leery of the Hades Bomb, managing to escape it twice. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Remo.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

In virtually a mirror of the preceding match, however, Remo Richardson appears at ringside, leaning on the apron with a smirk. RDJ hesitates before delivering the Leaping Lariat – which is too much; Tyson Baine is ready to catch him, powering him up into the Hades Bomb.</p><p> </p><p>

And that's all she wrote.</p><p>

Remo slides into the ring after that, lying face to face with RDJ, taunting him loudly. Baine lifts RDJ back up, boosting him into the air, and hits another Hades Bomb. Remo looks back at the fallen Johnson, realising that he's unconscious, and shrugs. “One more time?” he asks the big man, who stoops to oblige - </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/RickLaw.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The nightstick cracks across the back of Baine's head – and then again. Rick Law ducks Remo's boot, in the same motion DDTing Baine onto the canvas. Remo comes back with a clothesline, and Law hits the Long Arm of the Law simultaneously.</p><p> </p><p>

As Total Wrestling goes to commercial, all four men lie in the ring, clearly out of it.</p><p> </p><p>

The Machines vs. the Stone Brothers</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

And the pace is right back up – the Machines and the Stones both know exactly what to do here, and the execution of every single move is crisp and smooth, the teamwork flowing and instinctive. The fans are vocal from the off, and as the two teams concentrate their efforts, that reaction never drops. Jeremy Stone manages to get Brent Hill into the Stone Hold in the closing moments, but he holds on as John Anderson lands the Ammo Dump on Edd – but before he can make the cover, the twenty minutes is up.</p><p> </p><p>

The two teams rise, their first-ever meeting ending in a draw due to time constraints. No handshake, but the Machines do nod their respect to their opponents. Edd Stone does the same, grinning and enthusiastic, while his brother merely stares them down.</p><p>

Tommy Cornell vs. Troy Tornado</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

As they make their entrances, Azaria and Dangeorus dwell on the matches these two have had on PPV this year, and especially the fact that, with the exception of their first contest, Tornado seems to have had Cornell's number.</p><p> </p><p>

Cornell, of course, has acknowledged that he wants to win this one to finish the year's business with a clean sheet, and to begin – attacking during introductions – it seems possible that he will, but Tornado battles back smoothly, and after a little while, has things under control – more or less. </p><p> </p><p>

Cornell blocks a superplex, effectively low blowing Tornado on the buckle, and from that point on the contest is even again, both men doing well. Tornado blocks the Rough Ride and gets the Tornado Driver, though, and is about to cover-</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

</p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/NaNi8j36Gio?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="Bon Jovi - One Wild Night"></iframe></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The fans go berserk. That song hasn't been heard since 2004, but it used to have a very special place in TCW history. It used to be the signature song of Painful Procedure... Under their first lead vocalist.</p><p> </p><p>

Tornado stops dead, staring at the entrance ramp. Normally, in a match with Tommy Cornell, this would lead to a quick small package, the Guilt Trip, or, as he puts it in his inimitible British manner, “a belt in the goolies”, but Cornell, instead, struggles to a seated position, shaking his head from the Driver, and turns to stare, open-mouthed.</p><p> </p><p>

Jack Bruce is back, but, after a few seconds of playing to the crowd, he doesn't look happy about it. Sprinting down to the ring, he rolls in, nose to nose with Troy Tornado, the pair of them evidently arguing about something. Tempers are rising, and Tommy Cornell gets up to try to take advantage - </p><p> </p><p>

Both men simultaneously lash out at him with side kicks, then go straight back to their argument.</p><p> </p><p>

Eugene Williams admits to himself that, at twenty-one minutes in, this has ceased to be a match, ruling it a no contest. </p><p>

And so, after the final Total Wrestling of the year, I find myself once again talking shop with Eric Tyler. Or at least, talking shop is what it looks like, if you're not used to wrestling politics.

Eric's... As I've said before, Eric knows full well that TCW is his last run. This means two things to him; it means a little extra money – he likes to joke that his daughter, Brooke, is getting her college tuition paid for now, although from the rumour mill, I understand he had enough salted away to make sure she was OK by the time DaVE folded last year.

It also means a chance to secure his legacy in front of a worldwide audience. To my mind, this genuinely is something Eric deserves the chance to do, and at 48 the time to do it is swiftly running out.

He's been doing... well, in terms of how good his matches have been, but while his wins this year outnumber his losses, his losses have been higher profile and many of his wins have come at the hands of low-level names, while some of his losses have been against people who needed to establish themselves.

So Eric... is being used in much the same way that the older, seasoned talent always is. However, he wants to be used in a way that will leave an impressive memory in the minds of new fans. Which is pretty typical, ultimately – but Eric is a little more determined than some.

So what started as a bull session on the past year turned, before our flight touched back down in New York, to a discussion – almost a negotiation – regarding the coming year. Eric may find that last year is the pattern, however – alternating feuds with established workers and feuds with those who need making.

Or he may not; certainly, of the two names that came up most frequently, neither are exactly small fry in TCW. This arrangement could well be very promising very soon...

TCW comes back to Hawaii for a little winter sun this Friday, and as 2008 comes to a close, we don't intend to leave anyone in the cold when it comes to good wrestling.

Number one contenders to the Tag Team Titles, the Easy Riders, will be the first off the marks when it comes to wrestling, facing off with Koshiro Ino's proteges Team VIPER. It seems like every time Team VIPER get into the ring they come closer to victory, but the Riders are as close to unstoppable as any team in TCW at present.

With the All Action Championship not yet set to be defended this coming Sunday, Mayhem Midden has ordered a six man ladder match. Suspended above the ring will be the contract to face Frankie Perez for his title belt at Psycho Circus. The names signed up are impressive; Acid, Art Reed, Chance Fortune, Edd Stone, Harry Allen, and Hawaii's favourite, Hell Monkey.

Rocky Golden once again tests himself in the ring, facing off with School of Tradition man Joel Bryant. What's the status of Joel's tag team partner, Sean Deeley? Will that play into events on Friday, or has Sean Deeley actually rejected the teachings of Eric Tyler?

Frankie Perez teams with his new ally Remo Richardson against targets aligned with Troy Tornado next; the newest members of Painful Procedure, the Balcony Express, will step up to a significant challenge. But their minds have to be on a certain reappearance from this Tuesday...

Johnny Bloodstone will face off against Merle O'Curle, by Bloodstone's own request. It seems he respects the British Lion...

And in the main event, the match we didn't see last week - Rick Law has made a tag team match, teaming with John Anderson against the Syndicate team of Wolf Hawkins and Tyson Baine. It looks like one hell of a fight coming in to round off the show at the Sunrise Sunset...

Prediction Key:

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Team VIPER w/ Baroness Emily

#1 Contendership to the All Action Championship - LADDER MATCH

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Chance Fortune vs. Edd Stone vs. Harry Allen vs. Hell Monkey

Joel Bryant w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rocky Golden

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Frankie Perez & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Merle O'Curle (non-title)

John Anderson & Rick Law vs. Tyson Baine & Wolf Hawkins

- The Riders seem to be on more of a push than Los VIPERs.

#1 Contendership to the All Action Championship - LADDER MATCH

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Chance Fortune vs. Edd Stone vs. Harry Allen vs. Hell Monkey

- I want to pick Chance Fortune, because I mark for him, but... picking anyone other than Stone is pure silliness for a few reasons. He's over, he's skilled, he bumps like a trampoline and he can give Perez a serious rub.

Joel Bryant w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rocky Golden

- Uppercut to Bryant's aging uppernuts.

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Frankie Perez & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

- Waldorf and Stadler would be better off commentating on their own asskicking.

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Merle O'Curle (non-title)

- Ah, Merle, Johnny may well respect you, but you're still jobbing.

John Anderson & Rick Law vs. Tyson Baine & Wolf Hawkins

- Stupid Badge of Honour Bookering Priviledges.

I´m not yet convinced about team Viper (though win here would help a lot) so I go with Easy Riders

I usually strugle when there is more than two sides to choose from and this is no expection. Since Perez is heel I go for Reed who I see as best face from this group

Joel Bryant w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rocky Golden

Golden is more important than aging tag team spesialist

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Frankie Perez & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Named team or not, there is no way for Balcony Express to win this one

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Merle O'Curle (non-title)

This one is easy, though Merle will likely make it a competitive match

John Anderson & Rick Law vs. Tyson Baine & Wolf Hawkins

Could go either way but I like Synticate so I go with them

He is Hawaii's favourite, after all.

Joel Bryant w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rocky Golden

My poor, aching nutsack...

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Frankie Perez & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Oh, my poor, poor Balcony Express. JOBBERS!

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Merle O'Curle (non-title)

JOBBER!

John Anderson & Rick Law vs. Tyson Baine & Wolf Hawkins

It's his show.

Team WHO?

#1 Contendership to the All Action Championship - LADDER MATCH

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Chance Fortune vs. Edd Stone vs. Harry Allen vs. Hell Monkey

It's Art Reed.

Joel Bryant w/ Laura Huggins vs. Rocky Golden

Maybe some shenanigans here.

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Frankie Perez & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Balcony who?

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Merle O'Curle (non-title)

Merle O'who?

John Anderson & Rick Law vs. Tyson Baine & Wolf Hawkins

It's his show, but I think he's in over his head here.
