Ultimate Fighting Championship meets CornellVerse

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: I did not import any real-life fighters into the Default database. This dynasty is done entirely within the confines of the CornellVerse. The basis of the diary is that I stuck the Ultimate Fighting Championship itself into the Default database and built it up from scratch. I started with $500,000 and 0 Popularity everywhere.

This is the tale of a woman with a vision. That vision is to create the greatest mixed martial arts league of all time from scratch. Her name is Jennifer Avatar. With the help of three investors--Conrad Mitchell, Robin Sarandon, and Jacqueline McDeere--she embarked on her mission to take her company, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, straight to the top. With $500,000 in the kitty and nothing but ambition to survive on, the journey began.

Profile: The Ultimate Fighting Championship, created by Jennifer Avatar with the help of Conrad Mitchell, Robin Sarandon, and Jacqueline McDeere, looks to create a united world of mixed martial arts. With an aggressive game plan in the works, Jennifer intends to take the UFC straight to the top and become the greatest fighting promotion in the world. Only time will tell if she can succeed . . .

Jennifer Avatar wanted to cover all the bases, and it would almost end her dream before it even began. While there is nothing wrong with having seven divisions, having seven divisions with such a meager source of income would be a challenge. Still, she refused to give up on her idea, and so most of the starting money was spenting hiring 175 fighters to fill 25 spots per division. Those divisions are:

Lightweight (141lbs - 160lbs)

Welterweight (161lbs - 180lbs)

Middleweight (181lbs - 200lbs)

Cruiserweight (201lbs - 225lbs)

Heavyweight (226lbs - 300lbs)

Women's Lightweight (101lbs - 125lbs)

Women's Heavyweight (126lbs - 150lbs)

The first show was to be a tournament for the UFC Middleweight Championship. There was no way for the company to actually make money as of yet, so the hope was to grow enough to get a source of income before going bankrupt. First, however, would come the beginning . . .

UFC History ~ Commentary

Starting out, it was very difficult to keep the Ultimate Fighting Championship afloat. Jennifer Avatar struggled with the finances, finding herself spending whatever money was necessary to sign the best fighters she could realistically afford. Unfortunately, this still drained the UFC's resources very quickly.

It was late 1999 when the UFC found itself in the predicament of still being but a humble regional promotion and operating in the red. The UFC had passed several other promotions on the way, but was still far from the top and far from being profitable. Still, Jennifer took chances and they paid off when the UFC finally got a Pay-Per-View deal. The promotion was able to finally make back when had been lost during the initial hiring session.

Trouble was just around the corner. Though the UFC became the top promotion in the world for women in the sport, it still lacked big names on the men's side. It was up to Lindsey Lewis and Thea Higgins to carry the UFC through some difficult months.

Then problems started happening. Seeing their increased popularity, the fighters started wanting more money. The UFC's top stars were able to secure sweetheart deals that the promotion technically could not afford. Unfortunately, losing those fighters would have crippled the promotion's growth efforts. So Jennifer took the promotion into the red once more and started risking bankruptcy in an aggressive campaign to achieve growth and secure a better Pay-Per-View deal.

Jennifer's hard work and intuition paid off. While the UFC operated in the red for a good portion of 2000, the promotion was able to make a name for itself nationally, and thus was able to secure a bigger Pay-Per-View deal. While the UFC struggled at first to keep its newfound fans, it was able to eventually overcome that obstacle and start making money.

Now it is 2001, and Jennifer is embarking on her next quest: to overtake ALPHA-1 and GAMMA. What strategy has she formulated to accomplish this bold goal? Time will tell . . .

Show Rating: Awful

Commentary: I have no idea how to keep growing from here. I simply have no means by which to get the drawing power to keep the fans happy. I only have a handful of people who can main event at Mid Level National, and the rest are still just High Level Regional in popularity. It is definitely frustrating not having any name value whatsoever. I simply can not afford people that can make my company grow yet, as the Pay-Per-View income is usually only about $200,000 total and the fighters I need cost that much per fight. It will be tough road ahead as I try to stay in the black and get my fighters popular enough to handle being in the main event.

Commentary: We managed to make some money this time around. I must admit that I am disappointed with how utterly pathetic Rick Stanley is. I have no idea how he got so popular. No matter, I will use his popularity to boost up the people on my roster. I am competing against GAMMA and ALPHA-1 for talent these days, and it is getting difficult to keep the wage bill down. No matter, I will find a way to make do. Until then, people should look forward to two openweight tournaments in the coming months, one for the women and one for the men. I have to sort out some contracts first, unfortunately. So onward and upward.

Commentary: Made money again, but just barely. Still, a little is better than losing money, so I have no complaints. My tournaments are being delayed by the fact that Philip Ziskie has to have another match so I can extend his contract before I am able to hold a truly great openweight tournament for the men. Unfortunately, this means that top female star Lindsey Lewis may be off the screen for a while as she only has enough matches left for the women's tournament. No matter, I will handle it however I need to.
