Honest opinion on comparing TEW games.

Recommended Posts

I've bought and been playing TEW 08 for over a year now and its great the game I had before this however was EWR and I never got a chance to play the other games inbetween. I heard that like TEW 05 and 07 have the booking like EWR which let you put a purpose in and such so it felt like the game knew what you were building to. It's just like....In 08 it sometimes even feels like your PPV buyrates are based more on the PPV carrier than the storylines you have and the matches you've booked. But thats beside my point.

Is TEW 08 so far superior in ways that now I've bought it I shouldnt perhaps try the free 05? Or is it basically like...the booking system has changed and everything else is much better and going back is stupid.

I just read alot about them and it seems like you have all the brilliant ability to control the WHOLE company and alter all your merch and stuff but be even more involved in your storylines.

Any opinions on what I should do?

<p>Well as 05 is free there's no reason for you not trying it! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

As for 07, well it is an absolute classic. I only bought 08 last week and up until then I was having a great time on 07. I'm still getting to grips with 08 but what I've played thus far has been awesome, in terms of actual new features and depth it is better but 07 was still highly entertaining. So if you feel you want to try it, go nuts!</p>

Since it is free you can always try it. And if you like 05 better you can always give your license key for 08 to someone else... like say: me! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>None of the TEW games allow you to 'target' an eventual show at which the buildup to a feud will culminate, nor can you say that an angle/match should be designed to get worker A over/trash worker B/whatever. </p><p> </p><p>

'05 is easier to do well at, and for a new player it's an excellent starting point. The game has evolved, certain exploits have been blocked (Sex Sells angles could get As and A*s easily in '05 - much harder in '08). For me, I couldn't go back because of the amendments in '07 to advance booking - the single biggest and best change for me since '04. I also appreciated the awkward alphabet spread of '05 when it came to converting % into grades being ditched for a more logical approach in '07.</p><p> </p><p>

I don't think that going back is in any way a waste of time. It wouldn't work for me, but if you're not enjoying '08 as much as you expected, then '05 could work for you. I believe '08 is superior, and I suspect if you really get into '05 then you may appreciate the way the game has evolved.</p><p> </p><p>

Now, if you came to me and asked me to justify buying '08 over a free '07, I'd have a harder job... <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

This is all personal preference, and a lot of it has to do with my opinion that the 2005 Cornellverse is more interesting than the 2007 version, but I'd say that the order goes something like TEW 2008 > TEW 2005 > TEW 2007. 2007 has some nice features, but I don't think they really worked out until 2008 refined them into something which worked very well. 2005, to its credit, has a certain speed and ease of use that's appealing in its own way.
