Word of advice, Wrestling Century...

If starting a diary seems appealing to you then, ultimately, you'll have to choose a company to run with for your own personal reasons. Sure, it's nice to see what others out there might be more willing to read... However, in that case, You may want to leave more options than just "CZCW or bust". you know?

If putting together a diary is something you want to take on then choose a company that you feel best fits your interests. Do you like Hardcore Wrestling? How about comedy within your shows? Do you really enjoy women's wrestling? or do you love to watch the old-school, throwback, forms of Pro Wrestling? Once you answer these kind of Q's... It'll be really easy to zero in on a company to write for.

All in all, I wish you the best in your decision process. While it can be very time consuming, TEW Diaries can be a lot of fun and a great source of creative expression.

Cheers.

There's a 'diary advice' thread tucked around here somewhere that you should perhaps search for. Very helpful for new writers. Probably the best tip for you is to write 3-4 episodes before you post anything. Don't even create the thread. Just open up Microsoft Word and start typing. If you manage to get 3 episodes completely written, nicely formated and spell-checked, THEN you create the thread and slowly start posting.

It's a great way to test if you've got the passion for the project, before getting people's hopes up, or embarrassing yourself with failure.

<p>I fell into this trap before. I would post "what diary should I write about" and people would vote but in the end I needed to just pick the one I wanted to write about.</p><p> </p><p>

Sadly that wasn't WEXXV meets Japanese Game show which was by far the most popular idea <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Sticking to a diary is hard and I hate to say it but putting polls to try and write "for the readers" is a bad way to start. It will just lead you to discouragement and dissapointment when your diary isn't instantly loved and commented on by the boards. It sucks but it's true, the majority of readers don't comment unless the diary is "going the distance."</p><p> </p><p>

If you look at the early parts for the new crop of talent (BigPapa & Eisenverse to name a few) when their diaries first started, despite being high quality there were very few comments and there would often be no predictions on their cards. But they kept going and after updating week after week, month after month, and their readers being impressed enough to win them a couple OTM's, THEN people started flocking and commenting because readers felt it was worth their time.</p><p> </p><p>

The best advice I have is to just assume that nobody is going to read it, comment on it, or nominate it for <em>anything.</em> Then, if/when it happens you'll feel great but more importantly, you're not setting yourself up for disappointment, discouragement, and abandonment. </p><p> </p><p>

There's been a few diary writers in the past who became infamous because they'd start up a new diary every week trying to figure out what promotion or what title would instantly get them readers & awards. But there is no "right" answer.</p><p> </p><p>

Generally named promotion attract more readers in the beginning then "start up" but that doesn't matter in the long run. As Self constantly reminds us, his 3-time award winning diary, FCK, was a complete screwjob of the c-verse (being a diary written off of a draft scenario). In the short run it might have impacted his readership but after a couple months and a couple awards, it's far more popular then a majority of "name brand" diaries.</p>
