I would love to see them do a movie with Mickey and company. When was the last one of those to come out? The last Micky related movie that I can think of off the top of my head was Who Framed Roger Rabbit and that was only a cameo.

 

There was a Three Musketeers movie with Mickey, Donald and Goofy that was pretty fun.

Making a billion dollars is not proof that the movie was good. Avatar made that and the movie was decent but nothing great. Just like movies bombing does not mean they are terrible. It's a Wonderful Life was not successful when it first came out, but now it is considered a beloved classic.

 

I hardly ever put much stock in how movies do at the box office or how critics rate movies (A lot of critics now have a clear agenda in the movies they praise vs the movies the do not.).

 

As I have said before, Captain Marvel benefited greatly because it came out a few weeks before End Game. A lot of fans went and saw Captain Marvel because the character was going to be in End Game and therefore fans thought they had to see her standalone movie first.

 

Granted I cannot prove my theory, but I would have loved to see Captain Marvel come out like a year to six months before End Game just to see how much box office it did.

 

I definitely think the timing gave it a bump, but I mostly attribute its extraordinary success (above the usual MCU millions) to how it was positioned as 'important'. Much like Black Panther, the marketing pushed that this as a new exciting hero; the first to represent a particular (large, underserved) group and people felt like that was an important enough thing to leave the house to go see. Earnestly too. My gut instinct is to always go cynical, thinking people are posturing, but no. Folks were genuinely excited to see the first headlining female in the MCU.

Saw 'Us' the other day. Fun movie with a believably set up WTF moment.

 

'Patriots Day' was also very good in keeping with what really happened while adding a character to tell the story through.

No not that crap that Nicholas Cage made, I am talking about the Edward Woodward/Christopher Lee classic.</p><p> </p><p> Circling back to Captain Marvel, there was a rumor online that Disney was using the marketing budget for the movie (Captain Marvel) to buy tickets and thus inflate the box office numbers. Now I would not put it past Disney to do this, but it could also just be, and I hate to use this term, fake news.</p>

On the subject of Rambo I also saw and enjoyed Last Blood though I saw it at the end of a Rambo marathon. Watching all of the movies that way I must say while none of the movies are as great as the first one (that also has Stallone’s best acting performance) they’re all pretty consistent in quality and story. My only complaint with Last Blood was it seems like the Villains pretty much forget about him for seemingly a week or so after talking about wanting him dead but movies will be movies.

Yep. A good example of this is Warcraft (2016). 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 4.3/10, but rated 6.8/10 on imdb.

I hope DC follows suit as I love that universe far more than Marvel, where I basically only like X-men (but they kinda destroyed that franchise).</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Just throwing it out there in case you aren't super in the loop, but with the exception of the latest 2 Spider-Man movies (Homecoming and Far from Home), all the Spiderman, X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four are all not MCU movies.</p><p> </p><p> The MCU "only" contains Iron Man, Thor, Avengers, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain Marvel...(and maybe a few I'm forgetting...)</p><p> </p><p> I mention this only to say that you can't put all the Marvel movies in the same basket or view them through the same lens. I think the MCU has done a great job overall building the Marvel mythology and blending it together. Certainly some movies are better than others...but as a unified whole, the MCU did a much better job than Fox with X-Men or the DC properties world building in a cohesive way.</p>

<p>Thanks to Disney+ I was able to watch one of my childhood favorites, A Goofy Movie. Just as heartfelt and funny as it was when I was a kid. Hits even harder now that my dad is no longer alive. </p><p> </p><p>

Thought about watching the OG Lion King, but that made me cry before I lost my dad. Not sure I can handle it now.</p>

I just find him to be very annoying. Like I said this could have changed since I read it, but the Joker movie did fantastic and that was a standalone so I could see them going that way for their next wave of movies.</p>

I just finished Joker. Phenomenal movie. Phoenix is now my third favorite Joker behind Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger. Cesar Romero is at number four while Jack Nicholson is at number five.

I thought the whole failure of Charlie's Angels reboot was funny. Elizabeth Banks tells men to stay away from watching the movie as it is not for us. Then when the movie fails she blames men for not going to see the movie.

 

What kind of ass backwards logic is that?

 

There are plenty of business that treat their fans like crap. You see it in comic books all of the time. You will have writers (It always seems to be writers, not artist for some reasons) who will go out of their way to insult customers, but then the same writer will complain about not having enough money for medical bills.

 

It is a simple thing, if you want people to buy your stuff you do not treat them like crap or tell them you don't want their money because something is not for them.

I saw the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer and it looks like it is going to be awesome. Also, the fact that they played Blue Monday as the backing track gave the trailer just another layer of awesomeness.

 

Black Window's trailer looked good as well and it will be cool what they can do with that movie. I looks like it might be a good spy thriller/action movie.

<p>It depends what you mean by 'fans'. Hardcore fans or anyone-willing-to-buy-a-ticket fans. One group is bigger than the other. When you're trying to make billions, that's important. </p><p> </p><p>

I get what they're saying. A lot of franchise movies these days focus on fan-pandering nostalgia over telling a good story. Fans know what they want, but not always what they need. You shouldn't ignore the fans, but sometimes you gotta do things that they don't like in order to create a great story. Break a few eggs to make an omelette. Sacrifice a character to make another better. Bending your story to the will of the fans is like taking studio notes from millions of people. It can hurt more than help.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm not a big Star Wars guy, so I probably won't see this. I understand the idea behind what they're saying though. If it's just a big nostalgia hit, it could feel pointless and bland next to the others.</p>

Going by the plot summary, it's hilariously bad fanfiction made official. Just an endless parade of stuff that's supposed to be important because [insert original trilogy character here] is there while self-insert Rey gets the power of god and anime on her side. It doesn't cater to fans of Star Wars, it caters to the fanboys who want nothing but the same thing. The same fanboys who bury every single new Star Wars thing because it tries explore different aspects of the universe like both Clone Wars series, KOTOR 2 and any book that isn't the Thrawn Trilogy. Trying to please them is just as bad as trying to please non-fans and even when these fanboys get their way, they're still not happy anyways.
