Trying to be festive to take my mind off real world drama. Watched Dracula Untold tonight and I just love it. It's very much a comic book super hero origin story of Dracula. I can see why that would fly with some folks, but I love it. Luke Evans is a great Vlad.

Watched Alien: Covenant last night and surprisingly enjoyed it. I heard nothing but negative things about it, but it's my fourth favorite Alien movie behind Aliens, Alien, and Prometheus. There was some stuff I hated and the Walter/David twist at the end was obvious a million miles away, but over all I enjoyed it.

Has things like "First movie you remember watching", "Movie where you prefer the soundtrack", "favorite movie of your least favorite genre", etc - so you get some variety in the movies. I will see if I can find the one I am using. (I have seen 2 floating around).

Lashana Lynch's role Nomi in the upcoming Bond movie No Time To Die has been confirmed to be the new user of the code name 007. She is NOT the new James Bond. Daniel Craig is very much a big part of the movie and Bond is in exile following Spectre.

Lashana was very likable in Captain Marvel as Maria Rambeau.

I saw Wonder Woman 1984 yesterday and I was disappointed. The first one had been really good, so I did have high hopes for this one. But sadly, WW1984 was lacking something. I am not sure what, it was a long movie but it felt like it moved pretty good, so I would not say it was a pacing issue.

I just think it lacked a good story. The story was very weak. I had read online prior to watching it that it was bad. But I had also read it was a very woke/SJW type of movie and I personally did not see anything that could make it be considered that. There might be one scene dealing with a drunk and Kristen Wiig's character that might sort of lean that way, but I don't think it is the case.

Overall, I would say the movie was not good and honestly it was not really bad either. I would say it was sort of okay, but being closer to bad than good.

Yeah, I also thought it was ok. It was just lacking the action set pieces and fun group dynamic that the first one had. Didn't really like it, didn't hate it.

Soul, on the other hand, was another gem from Pixar, and finally dethroned The Invisible Man as my top film of the year. I doubt I'll see anything else before the end of the year that will shake up my top 5.

That is awesome. I will have to look at that platform for a project I am working on.

Haven't seen a lot of the movies there, and yes, BOP is an unpopular choice, but maybe it gets better on a second viewing.

I love Letterboxd and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to keep track of anything movie related.

So I just finished Soul and goddamn Pixar. Between Onward and Soul they’ve really hit me hard in the feels and I can’t place a movie above them this year. I also watched WW84 and I enjoyed it I’m probably on the flip side of BHK just above okay. I’m also on the opposite side of invisible man I just couldn’t get into it, I’m in no way saying it’s bad I wanted to like it because it was doing everything so well there was just something about it I am so uninterested I haven’t been able to get past the halfway point.

Top 5 of 2020

1. Onward

2. Soul

3. Bill and Ted face the Music

4. My Hero Academia : Hero’s Rising

5. Bloodshot ( No it’s not technically a “good movie” but it’s dumb fun which was sorely needed at the time I watched it)

I have been wanting to check out the Invisible Man, but I have heard so many mixed reviews about it. It is one of those movies I keep on saying, "Well there is nothing else to watch, I might as well give that a try." Then I find myself looking for something better.

Looking at Crychon's list made me realize just how many movies I have not watched this year. I used to go to the movies at the very least once a week but for obvious reasons I stopped. Heck I am not sure if they ever reopened any theaters in my state.

I don't even recall the last movie I saw in a movie theater. It had to be something that came out in December of last year or January of this year. But I am drawing a blank.

The last movie I saw in theaters (I had a subscription service where I went 3 times a month, so I was going pretty often) was Onward. I saw it just after opening weekend, and haven't been able to go back since.

I've also been trying to seek out as many 2020 releases as I can, especially the these past few weeks, to fill in any gaps that I could.

I watched both Wonder Woman and WW84 last night and loved both of them. I'm not a huge fan of the Wonder Woman character as I've always found her insufferable, but Gal Gadot is very likable. Her and Chris Pine had a ton of chemistry together.

The only downside is I always thought Chris Pine would be the perfect Hal Jordan and I doubt they'll have him play Hal.

Been catching up on the few animated films I didn't realize I had not seen from the past 10 or so years, since this year started---inspired by seeing the Nut Job last year haha. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and its sequel, The Croods, The Smurfs (meh), Turbo, and then rounded out with Soul. What a delight Soul was, my god. Still waiting for a chance to watch Onward with my roommate, and that, I know, will be enjoyable.

Caught Tom Holland in The Devil All the Time on Netflix recently, quite a gripping film. He is one of the best young actors out there, no doubt. Beyond just Spider-Man.

Did anyone catch Riz Ahmed in Sound of Metal? I don't want to give anything away. That, and Soul, would be my film recommendations from the 12 or so movies I've watched thus far this month (for the first time).

Godzilla vs Kong was predictable, but fantastic nonetheless. The final fight scene was simply breathtaking.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League was outstanding. It was a visual treat and the plot and pacing are far superior to the original cut. Didn't even feel like a four hour movie. I'd probably rank this amongst the top five superhero films of all time to be honest. It's a shame DC/WB is abandoning the Universe Snyder has just perfected, but hopefully what we get in the future is good as well.

Godzilla vs Kong is the closest Hollywood has ever gotten to the feel of the Japanese movies and the guy who directed the Netflix Death Note movie is probably the last person I expected to do that. Now if only someone would notice the similarities between the kid having a psychic bond with Kong and Godzilla being an ancient protector of the Earth and realize that it's time to bring Gamera into the mix. 90s Gamera though, not the one MST3K had a field day with.
