I love how creatively you handle the random backstage events.

I'm now wondering if something about Donnie J's personality set-up makes morale affect him more often. Because it seems when he sandbags he really sandbags but after I slipped him 5Gs as a bonus he started putting on much better matches.

October 2011, week 4

Another slow week. Donnie almost let slip the big secret. I reminded him to zip his lip in time. He's nervous; after the debacle that was our last match, he really wants a huge smash-hit defense to redeem himself. I promised I'd see what I could do.

CZCW Onslaught #88

We start off with Rich & Famous defeating Los Luchas again, giving us a slight update to Fire Fly's gimmick (for the better), and giving us another good opener. After that, we go with a four on four match; Team Snap Dragon (Dragon, Weasel, A-Game and Brody) defeats Team Speedball (Marc Speed, Brendan Idol, and Los Rudos). The match comes off well for one including so many undercarders, and the veterans keep it from sucking. We also get gimmick updates for Brendan and Panda; Panda's new gimmick isn't received any better, but Brendan's seems to be getting some support. We then drop into 'suck' territory as Happy Elwoood defeats Jonnie Perez.

For the rest of the show, things pick up a bit. CLM defends the Xtreme Title against Nigel Svenson in decent match. I take on Kashmir Singh, this time being on the losing end for a decent sub-main, and the main event pits Donnie J against Ultimate Phoenix. The two get a few more minutes than the last time they met, and there's ladders involved, and the result is a Zone-quality main event that sees Donnie retain his title against some serious competition, wiping the stink of last week's main event out of people's minds.

(Show rating: C, 2,000 tickets sold. Match of the Night: Donnie/Phoenix. Trash of the Night: Elwood/Perez.)

On the next Welcome: Donnie J has arrived. Are we looking at a long streak of good matches, or will we find a way to mess it up, as usual?

November 2011, week 1

On the last show of the tour, Bryan Holmes became GCG Champion. Well, we aren't getting him back anytime soon...

On the plus side, tonight's the night. We've got a big signing showing up.

CZCW Onslaught #89

Our opening match is a six-way. We'll say it's for the Xtreme Contendership. We've got Happy Elwood, Air Attack Weasel, Ant-Man, Panda Mask, Rob Reynolds, and Jonnie Perez. It's not anything special, and ends with Air Attack Weasel pinning Happy Elwood to claim a title shot... sometime. Up next, Brendan Idol gets a shock win over Jackpot Jordan, in a sub-par match, and then we kick things up a notch with El Mitico challenging for the Xtreme Title, and putting on a good show before California Love Machine retains. Up next, a Tag Title match between We Make You Tap and the thrown-together Amazing Fire Fly and Ultimate Phoenix. The result is a really good match that we'd normally be proud to have as a main event, even with the champs retaining. How Fire Fly isn't more popular when he can turn out performances like this, I'll never understand.

Next, we have what is scheduled to be a ladder match for the CZCW Title #1 Contendership between Jake Idol and Kashmir Singh. But before the bell rings, we announce the third participant in the match.. a man who becomes the instant favorite to win. It takes away a bit from the match, as the audience thinks it's a foregone conclusion, and it is... your new #1 contender, and a man who you know Donnie J has to be worried about facing... fresh from the SWF... James Prudence has returned to the Zone. Our main event pits Donnie against Snap Dragon, and Donnie knows he needs to make a good showing to shake Prudence's confidence, and he does the job, as these two put on one heck of a match – we suddenly have a whole slew of Match Of The Year contenders, and less than two months to go in the year. Donnie retains, and he stands atop the ladder with his belt, looking back to Jimmy P, taunting him.

(Show rating: C, 2,000 tickets. Match of the Night: Donnie/Dragon. Trash of the Night: Idol/Jordan.)

On the next Welcome: Hey, if we haven't run this feud in this long, it's new enough to work again. Donnie J. Jimmy P. It's time to rock this joint again.

November 2011, week 2

Yeah, as soon as I heard SWF wasn't going to keep Jimmy, I was in there with an offer for him. That's what I like most about my Zone; we're home. We'll always take you back if you want to come back. Well, unless Cliff says no. C'mon, Jonnie, learn...

Among the jobber corps, Ant-Man and Paradigm had been hanging out a lot lately, watching the History Channel. Not the friendship I would have expected, but, okay. James was happy to be back with Rita, who he was still dating – apparently, that had been one of his reasons for coming back here. We weren't going to complain.

CZCW Onslaught #90

Our opening match: Air Attack Weasel defeating Demon Seed. Average match, works as an opener. Next, I take on Amazing Fire Fly... and ten minutes into a twenty-minute match, he rolls me up. The crowd eats it up and the match is great – much better than the last time we tangled. After that, the Thrown-Together Tag match is a bit of a letdown, but not by much; Snap Dragon and Jonnie Perez lose to Ultimate Phoenix and El Mitico, but the surprise may be Mitico getting the victory. Right afterwards, a Tag Title match, as We Make You Tap faces Rich & Famous yet again – and this time, the more experienced team gets the victory and regains their tag titles. About as good as the last match, which means our average is riding high so far.

Surprising, the Xtreme Title match isn't as good as we'd hoped; CLM defends against Kashmir Singh and gets the victory, but it's trying to live up to too much and isn't quite on the same level as the rest of the card so far. But it provides a bit of a cooldown before our main event; as expected Donnie J / James Prudence is an absolutely barnburner... do we have barns on the west coast? There must be one somewhere... ah, well. Donnie retains, but these two almost rival the match Donnie had with me not too long ago.

(Show rating: C, 2,000 tickets sold. Match of the Night: Donnie/Jimmie. Trash of the Night: None.)

On the next Welcome: We realize we have a problem.

November 2011, week 3

Roger Montiero's contract was up. Rob Reynolds was about to; Cliff didn't want him resigned. I agreed with him on this one.

Other than that... another slow month. I debated the need to throw together a few more tag teams out of the midcard and jobbers... I mean, when was the last time we had a tag champion team that didn't include an uppercarder or main eventer?

So, we do a minor roster re-order. No change to the main event; California Love Machine has moved into the upper-midcard. The midcard is now Mitico, Weasel, Svenson, Happy, Perez, and Brendan. Fire Fly, Ant-Man, Panda Mask, and Giant Brody are the lowercarders; Paradigm, Demon Seed, and A-Game are the jobbers.

Oh, and since we've noticed that the lowercarders aren't getting as much time on the show lately; so, we're going to two and a half hours. Don't know if we'll have trouble filling that much time, especially with Reynolds leaving and a few new tag teams forming... but we'll figure something out. Hard to believe that at one point we were doing 'tidal booking' to fill up one-hour shows...

CZCW Onslaught #91

California Love Machine has vacated the Xtreme Title in exchange for a CZCW Title shot. So, we know our main event, and know we'll have to do something big for the Xtreme Title.

We open with the typical 'perfectly average opener', with Kashmir Singh defeating Ant-Man. It's probably the most 'screen time' Ant-Man's had in the last half-year. After that, we showcase one off our new tag teams, as Los Rudos take on the new P-n-P of Jonnie Perez and Paradigm. I'm pleasantly surprised to say it's also a nice, average match, with Perez getting the pinfall. After that, Brendan Idol gets a victory over A-Game, and ruins our stretch of non-sucking matches. We jump back up to average as Rich & Famous take on the new team of Happy Giant (Can you guess who's on the team?) in a Tag Team Title match; if you said the champs retain, congratulations, you can see the obvious.

Next, a four-way Xtreme Title ladder match. Air Attack Weasel, Amazing Fire Fly, El Mitico, and Nigel Svenson. These guys go out and put on a really good match, ending with Fire Fly claiming the vacant title. After that, Ultime Phoenix puts on a losing effort to Marc Speed in another pretty good match, and then I bring the crowd down by running roughshod over Rob Reynolds, and it's simply average. Then, it's typical “Zone kicks it into high gear” time as James Prudence and Snap Dragon tear it up in a long match, ending with Prudence getting the victory, and then our main event as Donnie J takes on CLM. It's not as good as the Prudence/Dragon match, but it's still... well, decent enough. Donnie retains, and shows he can take on random challengers without extreme drops in match quality.

(Show rating: C-, 2,000 tickets. MotN: Prudence/Dragon. TorN: Brendan/A-Game.)

On the next Welcome: With five weeks to go, can we put on another Match of the Year candidate?

November 2011, week 4

So, for those of you who like stats: The Match of 2010 was Art Reed vs Masked Cougar. We've had -five- matches this year that've been better than that. And only one other match from 2010 is in our list of Top 10 Matches. Likewise, one two 2010 chows are on our list of Top 10 Shows. I'd say that means we've had a good year.

Nigel re-signed; I hadn't realized he was working for only two-fifty a show. Had to be the best value in wrestling right now. But, never one to sit on my laurels, I extended offers to two large names I had contacted in the past, to see if the had changed their minds at all. Two days before the show, one of those offers paid off. The other, Ricky DeColt, declined to speak with us... again. Ah, well. We've got one huge-for-us name to throw some turmoil into the main event scene.

… not that we just did that, of course... heck, why not more? More chaos is always good...

CZCW Onslaught #92

This should be a fun show. We're opening with Marc Speed and Nigel Svenson, and the two technical artistes turn out a main-event-quality match that I really need to stop using as an opening match. Speedball wins, but let's face it; both men get over with that performance. We follow up with Ultimate Phoenix carrying Demon Seed to an average match, and then a horrible tag match between Happy Giant and P-n-P, with Brody getting the pinfall. We go back to average with CLM getting a victory over Air Attack Weasel.

We move on to a Tag Team Title match between Rich & Famous and Los Luchas that sees Jake Idol accidentally knock Jackpot Jordan off a ladder, causing Jordan to plant him with a DDT while Los Luchas retrieve the titles, making Amazing Fire Fly a dual champion. The result is a shorter-than-usual but still main-event-quality match. After that, Kashmir Singh eats a loss to Snap Dragon in a decent contest.

We move on to the main events, and yes, I reserved the new guy for myself, as I do the job in a long match to yet another big-name guy that I have next to no chemistry with. Your winner, in a dissapointing-yet-decent match: Randy Bumfhole. And for your main event, it's Donnie/Jimmie II, and they go six minutes more than last time, keeping the action going the whole time. Donnie gets the advantage when Randy runs in and clocks Jimmie from behind before returning up the ramp. Jimmie's not the same for the last few minutes, and Donnie is able to retain in one heck of a match.

(Show rating: C, 2,000 tickets sold. MotN: Donnie/Jimmie. TotN: Happy Giant/PnP.)

On the next Welcome: That's right. We got us a Bumfhole. With one month left in the year, can the Zone handle any more excitement?

December 2011, week 1

Another Coastal Resort student graduates, and goes without a job offer from us due to his lack of training. Geeze, Cliff, maybe we shouldn't be graduating these kids then!

I just don't understand that man sometimes.

Anyway, we've got one month left in the year, and we've argueably never had this much talent in the Zone at one time. And the majority of it is made of Zone alumni; with the exception of Singh and Bumfhole, everyone in the main event or uppercard is a long-time Zoner.

CZCW Onslaught #93

It's getting late, so we're gonna do this quickie-style.

Kashmir Singh def. Giant Brody, Panda Mask, Nigel Svenson, Jonnie Perez, and El Mitico (Average)

Xtreme Title: Amazing Fire Fly def. Happy Elwood (Above-average)

Air Attack Weasel def. Fox Mask (Main-Event-Quality)

Ant-Man def. Rob Reynolds (Sucks)

Snap Dragon def. Brendan Idol (Average)

Jake Idol def. Jackpot Jordan (Below-Average)

Ultimate Phoenix def. California Love Machine (Average)

Randy Bumfhole def. James Prudence (Damn good)

CZCW Title: Donnie J def. Marc Speed (Damn good)

Show rating: C+, 2,000 tickets sold.

On the next Welcome: I think it's safe to say that I've taken too many shots to the head. Eventually, I'll remember who does and doesn't work well with each other...

More importantly drop a match to a Bumfhole!

And to answer infinity... I knew you wouldn't actually *check* the chemistry page, this is the Zone.

<p>After all that, another slow week. Nobody wants the hassle of drama around the holidays, I guess.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

CZCW Onslaught #94</p><p> </p><p>

I'm liking these longer shows. Lets me book much more actions, and give more guys paychecks. Tonight, we open with Snap Dragon defeating Jonnie Perez, and as per usual we get an average match to open things up. We follow it with a Tag Title match between Los Luchas and Los Rudos; for having so many undercarders in the match, it sure goes over well. The champs retain, but matches like this will go a long way towards the singles careers of both teams in the future. Nigel Svenson gets a win over Jackpot Jordan, who certainly doesn't do much to make it a good match. Then, a six-man “Pay everyone” match between CLM/Reynolds, Kashmire/Happy, and Phoenix/Brendan, with Ultimate Phoenix and Brendan Idol getting the victory. Turns out Singh and Elwood won't work well together, so the match was just a shade better than average. Giant Brody gets a squash win over Paradigm, and that's your designated bathroom break match. In an Xtreme Title match, Fire Fly retained his title against Ant-Man, marking Fly's second match of the night; this one, however, was merely average as these two didn't really bother putting any effort into the psychology of the match. </p><p> </p><p>

We start up the main event festivities with me defeating Air Attack Weasel; as usual, we have a better-than-average match, and set the stage for the really big matches. First, James Prudence gets a pinfall over Marc Speed in a long match that isn't as well received as he'd've hoped; finally, our main event sees Donnie J defend the Zone Title against both Jake Idol and Randy Bumfhole. He retains, but the resulting match is pretty damn good, and is a nice capstone to the night. </p><p> </p><p>

(Show rating: C, 2,000 tickets. Match of the night: Donnie/Idol/Bumfhole. Trash of the Night: Brody/Paradigm.)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

On the next Welcome: With two weeks to go in the year, have we decided on who our big year-ending show will be capped off by?</p>

<p>December 2011, week 3</p><p> </p><p>

Welp, Rob Reynolds has left us; it's probably for the best, as he wasn't nearly as useful as we thought he would be. Cliff was considering freelancing for USPW in his spare time; he said with me booking 'so well', he had more time on his hands than he knew what to do with. I told him it looked like he was cheating on his own promotion; he said it lets him get more practice to commentate better at the Zone. </p><p> </p><p>

Hard to argue with that. Especially when he's the boss. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

CZCW Onslaught #95</p><p> </p><p>

Your pre-show match: Panda Mark over Ant-Man and Brendan Idol, in an average match that probably could've been on the show.</p><p> </p><p>

The show itself starts with Amazing Fire Fly losing his Xtreme Title to Nigel Svenson. Nigel, it seems, still needs to work on his psychology... but it looks like we'll be using Fire Fly in the tag ranks for a while, and we don't want to burn him out with two matches a show. Better than average, but we're not sure how much of that is due to a pre-show match warming up the crowd. Up next, CLM gets a surprise win over Speedball in a surprisingly bad match, and Demon Seed does likewise over Jackpot Jordan... who didn't complain about it, but we're fairly sure he's just letting it fester inside him until one day he shoots on me and breaks my neck. Things get better when James Prudence gets a victory over Jonnie Perez (who apparently -still- hasn't learned what he needs to learn) in a decent match, and Los Luchas defeat Happy Giant to retain the Tag Team Titles in another decent match. </p><p> </p><p>

Things start getting good as Kashmir Singh defeats Air Attack Weasel in a good bout, then drop back to average as I defeat Jake Idol. In your sub-main, Randy Bumfhole defeats Ultimate Phoenix in a nice, long match, and then Donnie J retains the Zone Title against Snap Dragon in what is probably the least engrossing of their three matches so far this year. </p><p> </p><p>

(Show rating: C-, 2,000 tickets sold. Match of the night: Phoenix/Bumfhole and Singh/Weasel. Trash of the Night: CLM/Speed and Jordan/Demon)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

On the next Welcome: It's time to wrap up 2011 and put a bow on it, and for the crowd's gift, a great main event... Donnie J. Fox Mask. Randy Bumfhole. Ultimate Phoenix. Snap Dragon. Jake Idol. CZCW Title.</p>

December 2011, week 4

A nice, slow week. Holidays, y'know. Which is good, it lets me focus on some logistical things. Like making sure The Pit Snakes know we're going to be at the Gorski this week. I'm... testing something.

CZCW Onslaught #96

And so, the biggest (and last) show of the year kicks off with an Xtreme Title match as Nigel Svenson defends against Ant-Man. We're due for a technically-oriented ladder match, which will be a nice change of pace, and these two deliver a quality opener that gets the crowd in the mood for the show. We follow that up with a more traditional, high-flying ladder match for the Tag Team Titles as Los Luchas face P-n-P. Amazingly enough, we top the last match, and folks... mark your calendars, I'm actually saying this... Paradigm and Jonnie Perez are worthy of being in a main event, despite losing here.

Next up, we get our bathroom break out of the way as Giant Brody squashes A-Game. Things get better... slightly... as Brendan Idol defeats Panda Mask. I enjoy that match a bit more than I should; I didn't bother to tell them who should win. I was interested in seeing what they would choose. Things don't improve as Jackpot Jordan gets a token win over Happy Elwood, and neither man seems to be trying. Improving a bit again, Air Attack Weasel defeats Demon Seed; the opener is placed a bit higher up the card and is still able to deliver an average match.

Another boost in quality as Kashmire Singh defeats Speedball, and then a giant jump in quality as we move into our main events. James Prudence gets a win over California Love Machine in a great matchup, and then... our six-way title match. As promised, Donnie J defends against the major-leaguer Randy Bumfhole; the former champion Snap Dragon; his former partner, James Prudence; the King of the Zone, Fox Mask; and the up-and-comer Jake Idol. The resulting match is over half an hour, and is (as hoped) the best match of the night. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the champion retains, and Donnie J gets to finish 2011 with the CZCW Title held above his head at the top of the ladder.

(Show rating: C, 2,781 tickets sold. Match of the Night: Main Event. Trash of the Night: Brody/A-Game.)

On the next Welcome: Well, we ran the numbers – we're leaving the Grissom and into the Gorski. If we keep up this level of attendance, we're looking at an extra five grand a show from fitting in those extra people. Bring on 2012! But first... Coastal Zone Year In Review!

Good to see two of your top three events were recent, that's very promissing for the future. Looks to me like you did the right thing puttng the title on Donnie since he has been involved in three of the top five matches. 2011 was a lot of fun to read my friend can't wait to see what you have in store for us in 2012

January 2012, week 1

So, after having one heck of an ending to the year, we had to make sure we didn't lose any momentum starting 2012. We made a couple of contract offers; nothing major, just shoring up a few spots in the mid- and lower-card.

CZCW Onslaught #97

We open with a proven past crowd-pleaser, as Marc Speed meets Nigel Svenson once again. This time, it's a ladder match for the Xtreme Title. This time, Nigel goes over to retain his title. And this time, the crowd craps all over it. Ah, well. We follow that up with Randy Bumfhole squashing Demon Seed, and the crowd begins to perk up. James Prudence and Ultimate Phoenix face Rich & Famous, with Phoenix getting the pinfall on Jordan; yet another decent match, and the crowd is starting to forgive us for that opener. The Tag Titles are on the line, as one more Los Luchas defeat Happy Giant. While nto as good as the last two matches, it's still above average.

We keep on the 'above average' level as CLM and AAW defeat Brendan Idol and Jonnie Perez, then... improve slightly, as I defeat Snap Dragon. Hoping for a blow-away main event, we have Donnie J defending the CZCW Title against Kashmire Singh; and blow-away it is. Not on the level of last year's match of the year, but an early and strong contender for the award this year. Donnie retains, but Singh looks good coming out of this one.

(Show rating: C, 2,681 tickets. Match of the Night: Donnie/Singh. Trash of the Night: Svenson/Speed)

On the next Welcome: Contracts fly all over the place... who goes where?

January 2012, week 2

We offered Singh a two-hundred-a-night raise; RIPW wasn't willing to match that, so Singh gets to stay with us for a while. Also resigning with us, Amazing Fire Fly and Brendan Idol. And two additions: One never-before-seen here, one OZ (Original Zoner) coming home after some cooling off time.

CZCW Onslaught #98

We open our show with Nigel Svenson defending against Panda Mask and retaining in an average match. Looks like the Xtreme Title is back to being our opener. Up next, Ultimate Phoenix introduces us to, then squashes, our newest Zoner: Elliot Thomas. It's a bit below average, but mainly due to people not knowing Thomas. Up next, Demon Seed gets a surprise win over Happy Elwood ... and Demon Seed just put on a better match than Ultimate Phoenix. Wow. Then Giant Brody squashes Ant-Man, to much lesser effect.

Kicking things up a notch, Kashmire Singh defeats California Love Machine in a good match, followed by Los Luchas retaining the tag titles over the new team of Moose & Weasel... which is exactly who you think it is, as Jeremiah Moose returns and has a good match. Things slow down with a six-man match that sees Snap Dragon, Marc Speed, and Jonnie Perez defeat Brendan Idol and Rich & Famous, and it's okay. Then, Donnie J defends the... wait, what? No, that was supposed ot be the main event... dammit. Donnie J defends the CZCW Title against Randy Bumfhole... and loses, giving us a new champion. Finally, I defeat James Prudence in the main event.

(Show rating: C, 2,549 tickets. Match of the night: Fox/Prudence. Trash of the Night: Brody/Ant-Man.)

On the next Welcome: We've been averaging a C for months now... can we manage to take things to the next level?
