TNA's New Beginnings II

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Harry Smith defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir in 8:26 by submission with a Bulldog Bite. D

Sunday, week 2, July 2003

Tucson Arena, Tucson, AZ

The backstage entrance is shown and through the door walks Sid. He looks p o'd. He hisses "Douglas is mine" before walking off towards the main backstage area. C+

Hardcore Match

Devon Storm v 'Everybody's Favourite' Necro Butcher

One of Necro's better matches in TNA but mainly because it was his type of match. While it wasn't spectacular by any means, it was acceptable as an opener and was notable mainly for a good performance put in by Devon Storm. This helped him greatly to prevail in 6:46 by pinfall with a Mind Bender onto a trash can. D

Having picked up the victory, Devon Storm celebrates in the ring. C

Hardcore Match

Latin American Exchange (Hernandez & Konnan) v Pride of Britain

LAX haven't been the same in or out of the ring since Homicide left for CMLL. They haven't been at the same level and their win loss record is suffering. The trend continued here as the two Brits belied their European technical style to come out over the more brawling team of LAX in 8:40 when Desmond Wolfe defeated Konnan by pinfall with a Crowning Glory. D

Steve Corino speaks from the locker room. He tells of his days in the old ECW and also that because he has been extreme, there is no way Ernest Miller will make him say "I Quit" tonight. D-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Hardcore Match

CM Punk (champion) v Chris Candido

A considerably better match but Punk has proved in the first year of TNA that he is a consistantly good performer who puts in good matches. Candido has more hardcore experience than Punk having competed in the old ECW, but he couldn't cope with Punk's intensity and he also seem to be distracted a little, most probably by his ongoing rivalry with Mike Sanders. Punk retained in 12:22 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 4 of his TNA X Division title. C-

Eric Bischoff is walking backstage when he sees Rick Steiner and Vampiro sharing a heated exchange. He tells them he is glad they are so animated, this is exactly the sort of intensity he wants to see in the six way tonight. C-

Alex Wright (with Roger Bagwell) v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell)

This was interesting... and yet disappointing. It was intriguing when Wright and Buff first square off and they battled each other with ferocity, but the match just didn't work out to be that entertaining, despite the Buff/Roger/Wright love triangle around it. It was Buff that picked up the win in 8:56 when Buff Bagwell defeated Alex Wright by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster, while Roger didn't quite know which way to take it. That makes a change. D

A music video is shown to promote Frankie Kazarian. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Hardcore Match

Backstreet Boyz v Full Blooded Italians

A hardcore match that was more fast paced and aerial than hardcore, it just featured the odd chair here and there. It would have been a decent match had it not been for a poor performance by Little Guido, which was surprising given his positive start in TNA. This led to the champs keeping their belts in 9:57 when Trent Acid defeated Little Guido by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. Backstreet Boyz make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. D+

Konnan is backstage, going berserk that he and Hernandez lost to "two limeys" earlier tonight. E+

I Quit match

Ernest Miller v Steve Corino

An entertaining match which featured a good mixture of submission wrestling and hardcore action as both men tried to force the other to say those two horrible words. The end came when Corino tied Miller in the corner and put a steel chair in front of his manhood. He then took a sledgehammer and hit the chair before asking Miller if he would quit. Miller did after the third hit. C

CM Punk is holding a self celebration in his locker room, alone with his X Division championship belt. D-

Hardcore Match

America's Most Wanted (Harris & Storm, with Dawn Marie) v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A match which favoured AMW more than SAT, it played out pretty much to expectation and while the match was OK, the fact it was somewhat predictable worked out against it. Sure enough, AMW took victory in 8:33 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Joel Maximo by pinfall with a Death Sentence. D+

American Dragon is walking backstage when he stops, almost as if he feels someone watching him. He looks around, doesn't see anyone, and so continues walking. Seconds later, a shadowy figure emerges from hiding, having been there the whole time, and runs off. He catches the light in the background... it was Vampiro. E+

Hardcore Match

Abyss v American Dragon v Rick Steiner v Super Crazy (with Midajah) v Vader v Vampiro

Guest referee: Eric Bischoff

A chaotic, bloody match which featured a good number of weapons and a few wrestling spots, normally when Dragon and Crazy were involved. The mix of wrestlers and high quality of them served well here as the contest was never predictable unlike the one preceeding. With Eric Bischoff's statement on Impact that the match will go along way to deciding contenders for the World Championship, it was a great win in 12:35 for Rick Steiner as he defeated Vampiro by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. C-

Little Guido is shown backstage smashing up the first things he finds, angry at his lacklustre effort earlier in the night. E+

Shane Douglas v Sid Vicious

Not the most exciting match as it was somewhat one paced throughout. Douglas tried to combat Sid's power with subtle chicanery and there were portions of the match where this proved successful. Sid continues to steam roll through TNA though as he took this one in 12:35 by pinfall with a Powerbomb. D+

Harley Race is in the back, grinning at Jeff Jarrett who is showing ever increasing frustration at still not knowing who his opponent is tonight. Race tells him he hopes he is ready for a night of pain tonight in the submission match. C

BG James v Ken Shamrock

More was expected from this match and it under delivered somewhat. There was also a shock result, as Ken Shamrock lost a rare match in TNA in 15:14 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. D+

After the match, Ken Shamrock goes mental backstage, ripping things off the wall, breaking things and hitting anybody who comes near him, shouting out James' name while he does so. E+

As we wait for the match between Jeff Jarrett and his mystery opponent to commence, Tenay and Don West run us through the Tale Of The Tape. Well... they do one half. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Submission Match

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSmhUCKWb6LiYYBqhfn1rxwPYYoHnmwJI-wtzl5LcTnPIirjyc&t=1&usg=__kwAmipkmSSsp8Xt_K9l_WhaixlA=

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Mr Wrestling IV

A major shock in TNA as many years after Mr Wrestling 3 was last seen, TNA announces the arrival of Mr Wrestling IV.

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ5Nq9YldkW6kHRIBI_U0TXzuA0yscubaDquhmlhkO4VCUEjVQ&t=1&usg=__U09VFRqabaFU6XOdpR3XBlQBudE=

Jarrett is in complete disbelief and Mr Wrestling IV takes the contest to Jarrett who for the opening minutes of the match just about hangs in there. The two proceed to put on a decent wrestling match, comfortably the match of the night. One wouldn't go as far as describing it as a submission classic, but partly thanks to the shock of seeing Mr Wrestling IV, it is one to remember. Jarrett fought, clawed and at times dragged him through the match, but he managed to come through a stiff test in 19:40 via figure four leglock. Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 9 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C

Having picked up the victory, Jeff Jarrett celebrates in the ring with his championship belt, mightily relieved at still being in possession of it. B-

Not much changed at Hard Justice as all three champions were successful in defending the titles. What next for the champions?

The one big change was the shock arrival in TNA of Mr Wrestling IV. After losing to Jarrett, where will he fit in in TNA?

One other surprise was Ken Shamrock losing to BG James. You can be sure he won't take that defeat lightly.

Watch Sci Fi on Saturday night.

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Doug Williams defeated Frankie Kazarian in 9:30 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. C-</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Impact</strong></p><p>

Saturday, week 3, July 2003</p><p>

All Seasons Arena, Minot, ND.</p><p>

Live on Sci Fi.</p><p> </p><p>

Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff open Impact. They call out Rick Steiner. Bischoff reiterated what he said before Hard Justice, saying that the six man match went a long way to determine who he thinks should next challenge Jeff Jarrett, and despite Steiner winning the match, he wasn't sufficiently impressed with the victory to give him a title match. Steiner goes nuts, but is taken down by a Jarrett low blow.</p><p>

Harley Race comes out, and says that's fine because he can give him a title match, and he makes it for the next edition of Explosion! <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>EZ Money v Harry Smith</strong></p><p>

A reasonable opening contest between one of TNA's lesser lights and one of it's young, talented talent. The young Smith prevailed in 7:11 by submission with a Bulldog Bite. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Desmond Wolfe appears on screen and tells everybody that it was him who attacked CM Punk and challenges him to a title match at Victory Road. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Ken Shamrock cuts an interview, where he is angry and embarrassed at his defeat to BG James. He demands the chance to set the record straight at Victory Road. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Chris Candido v Mike Sanders & 'Everybody's Favourite' Necro Butcher</strong></p><p>

There was too much negativity in the arena about this match and it suffered as a result, being a rather tedious affair that not even the wrestlers really got into. Candido takes it in 9:08 when he defeated Necro Butcher by pinfall with a Superplex. <strong>D-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Eric Bischoff is in his office flanked by numerous security man. He has a red faced Sid Vicious with him, bellowing about the fact that Bischoff is always denying him a title shot. Bischoff tells Sid he is wasting his time in TNA as he hates him and will never give him a title match. Harley Race then walks in and joins in the argument, saying that he is sick and tired of Bischoff denying worthy contenders title matches. <strong>C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Steve Corino is seen backstage, putting the boots in on a blooded Ernest Miller. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ken Anderson v Mr Wrestling IV</strong></p><p>

Oh dear, this was terribly disappointing. The two didn't click, IV put in a stinker and was visibly tiring towards the end of the match. A huge letdown, especially considering his good title match debut against Jeff Jarrett only six nights previous. Despite all this and interference from Mike Quackenbush, he still picked up the win in 12:14 by pinfall with a Sudan Elbow Drop. <strong>D-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSKyAoDHcagExV1_H0dKnrUZcWrfJy9RL9MLV3f58lkhfBDXFg&t=1&usg=__46ugPRpsa7ge4Ccz9F9YQovh6c0=</span></p><p>

Paul London is backstage and reveals he has found his partner to face Abyss and Shane Douglas... and Rick Steiner appears next to him. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Roger Bagwell is in a locker room with husband Buff and Alex Wright. All is calm despite the three way match at Hard Justice which Buff won. Roger says that the three way on Sunday has given him an idea... he wants a three way of his own with Buff and Alex! Surprisingly both are receptive to this (they need to be!) as their eyes light up and the cameraman hurriedly runs out of the locker room, clearly disturbed by the whole thing. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Johnny Kashmere v Jose Maximo v 'Wildcat' Chris Harris</strong></p><p>

An intriguing match and comfortably the best of the night so far. Kashmere and Harris started out working together but that fell apart after the two started going for falls on Maximo. It then became a full on three way where alliances were non existant and it was Harris who took it in 13:16 by defeating Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Catatonic. After the match, when Kashmere had been handed the NWA TNA Tag Team Championship belt, Harris pointed at it and told him he wanted it. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

CM Punk appears backstage and tells Desmond Wolfe that he accepts his challenge for a title match and then ups the ante... he makes it a cage match. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Vader and Vampiro attack Sid Vicious backstage, and leave him down and out on the concrete. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ken Shamrock v Vader</strong></p><p>

Save the three way preceeding the main event, this has been a disappointing night of action. The main event was a disappointment also, though it wasn't helped by the crowd having lost much interest by now. Shamrock won despite attempted interference from BG James in 15:09 by submission with an Ankle Lock. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Judas Mesias defeated Robert Roode in 8:22 by pinfall with a Frog Splash. The two showed great chemistry. D-

Impact

Saturday, week 4, July 2003

Pizzitola Sports Center, Providence, RI.

Live on Sci Fi.

Harley Race is in the ring and summons Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett comes out with the owner spiel, nobody tells him what to do. Race tells him that's not true as the NWA have as much say in the TNA World Heavyweight Championship as TNA does. Race tells him how it will go down. Jarrett will have a challenger at Victory Road and it will be the winner of a match tonight between American Dragon and Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell. Jarrett is about to say that NWA can kiss his ass, but his mic myteriously develops a technical fault. C-

Devon Storm v Frankie Kazarian

Not the best of openers thanks to a combination of little in the way of crowd interest and a lacklustre performance from Kazarian. Devon Storm took full advantage of this to take the match in 6:31 by pinfall with a Mind Bender. D

Eric Bischoff comes out to the ring and reveals he is the mind behind the attacks on Sid by Vader and Vampiro. Bischoff says that he hated Sid back in WCW and he doesn't want him in TNA. He will do everything in his power to ensure that he will never get a title match and his time in the company will be hell. C

BG James attacks Ken Shamrock backstage, then stomps on his body before leaving, telling him he will take great pleasure in beating him again at Victory Road. D+

Rick Steiner v Shane Douglas

A match between two wily and chiseled veterens who've been there and done that. The match was pretty much as fans would expect and a bit one paced, so it wasn't the most entertaining affair TNA has ever produced, but it was watchable. Douglas sneaked a win in 9:56 by pinfall with a Franchiser following interference from Air Paris. The two beat down on Steiner after the match. D+

Steve Corino is backstage where he taunts Ernest Miller, asking what has he ever achieved in wrestling and that he is more interested in dancing like a buffoon than winning matches. C-

Alex Wright comes to the ring and tells the crowd that he has penned a song in dedication of an amazing man, Roger Bagwell. He proceeds to sing a heart warming song and surprisingly is not that bad at singing. At least he's bearable unlike drunken tools who sing on karaoke. D+

Trent Acid v 'Cowboy' James Storm v Joel Maximo

An entertaining match that held crowd interest throughout and kept watchers wondering what would happen next for the majority of it. Just the kick of life that the show needed. Like last week, it was a member of SAT who lost to a member of AMW in 11:01 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Joel Maximo by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog and also just like last week, Storm pointed to Acid after the match and told him he wants his title. A match at Victory Road must be on the cards now... C

Life which then gets sucked out of it with a video recapping the Chris Candido v Mike Sanders feud. D-

Travis Morton is interviewing Desmond Wolfe in the interview area, who tells CM Punk that for weeks he has had to put up with his attacks on he and his partner Doug Williams. Of late he has started to play Punk's game and he will finish off the job at Victory Road when he takes Punk's title and his blood inside the steel cage. D

Winner Faces Jeff Jarrett at Victory Road

American Dragon v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell)

A good match, but not quite as good as some might have hoped. Both men fought tooth and nail for the large prize on offer to the victor, and Roger caused distraction to Dragon a couple of times. Dragon was able to overcome these as he put on a good technical display to earn a second shot at Jarrett in three months, winning in 13:50 by submission with an Arms Across America. C-

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQqBlxAnvn9bdZZi-apsdLZypwC4m3EmmL03SgC9cl5rBUh6jo&t=1&usg=__-qs8af0c5zcb33hh9rFDpuQGt10=

A music video is shown to promote the tag team champions, Backstreet Boyz. C

Rick Steiner cuts a promo where he says how he is sick to death of Shane Douglas "piss poor" attitude and antics and wants him at Victory Road. C-

Ken Shamrock & Sid Vicious v Vader & Vampiro

While Shamrock and Sid looked a very dangerous team on paper, they didn't work well together at all as their timing was all over the place. This didn't help the quality of the match either, as it turned into a somewhat disappointing main event. Without Bischoff's brain or a numbers advantage, Vader and Vampiro struggled a little bit and it was the psychotic one who took the bout in 13:15 when Sid Vicious defeated Vampiro by pinfall with a Powerbomb. D+

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Chris Candido defeated Austin Aries in 6:48 by pinfall with a Top Rope Leg Drop. D

Impact

Saturday, week 1, August 2003

Lane County Ice Center, Eugene, OR.

Live on Sci Fi.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring and calls out Harley Race. Race walks out and Jarrett berates him, saying that he is the owner and founder of TNA and what he says goes. He's not going to face American Dragon at Victory Road. Race tells him to not be so hasty. He informs Jarrett that when Dixie Carter made her investment in TNA, she took a controlling stake. Dixie has since given Harley Race the power to make wrestling decisions on her behalf. In addition, the NWA and TNA both recognise American Dragon as the number one contender to the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship... so Jarrett has a choice. He can either defend the title against American Dragon at Victory Road, or he can forfeit the title to him if he refuses. Jarrett is left with no choice and is livid. C+

Ken Shamrock cuts a promo on BG James, saying he lost to him previously due to a rare lapse in concentration and warns him that it will not happen again. C-

Air Paris v Paul London

A good, fast paced opening contest that unfortunately didn't have the crowd interest to push it up to a level further. Both wrestlers were on it tonight which gave for an even, back and forth and up and down match up, one in which Air Paris took in 10:28 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C-

Backstreet Boyz are backstage and come across America's Most Wanted. The banter goes back and forth, with AMW saying how they are so good they have beaten the Boyz twice in recent weeks. Kashmere reminds AMW that they didn't actually pin he or Acid and so challenges them to prove they can beat them twice... by making the title match at Victory Road two out of three falls. Harris and Storm agree, saying it will make it four victories for them. D

Joel Gertner is backstage with Shane Douglas, who remarks that he doesn't give a crap what Rick Steiner thinks of him, he'll happily kick the crap out of him any time he wants. D+

Judas Mesias v Mr Wrestling IV

Despite good chemistry on display between the two, this was a disappointing affair, mainly due to a poor performance from Mr Wrestling IV. Even so, the newcomer had too much for the strange Mesias and prevailed in 6:52 by pinfall with a Sudan Elbow Drop. D-

Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter recap the feud between Ernest Miller and Steve Corino and discuss their upcoming no disqualification match at Victory Road. C-

BG James is shown in a pre recorded segment signing autographs for some fans outside of the arena, but he takes exception to a Ken Shamrock fan and starts arguing with him, before security lead James away. D-

American Dragon v Mike Sanders

A good, solid technical match and one where Dragon looks good as he tunes up for his second shot at Jeff Jarrett. Very few mistakes were made by either men in this bout, but Dragon was able to capitalise on one by Sanders to win in 8:34 by submission with an Arms Across America. C-

American Dragon is celebrating his victory in the ring. Jeff Jarrett runs in and attacks, beating Danielson down into the mat. C

Eric Bischoff is standing in ring, flanked by Vader and Vampiro. He warns Sid Vicious that he only has to give the word, and Vader and Vampiro will break him at any given moment. C

Travis Morton is backstage with Rick Steiner, who tells Shane Douglas that he is ready for him any time. D+

CM Punk & Steve Corino v Pride of Britain

Punk and Corino looked very good together, despite a complete lack of much in common or experience working together. This looked to surprise the Brits, who looked like they expected them to not be as cohesive and it seemed to throw them off their game plan. The heels took full advantage to tag the match in 12:20 when CM Punk defeated Desmond Wolfe by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. C-

Buff and Roger Bagwell are in the locker room, the married couple sharing a tender moment. In walks Alex Wright, to which Buff has an incredulous look on his face. Wright is calm and collected however, and tells Buff he is not here to cause any more trouble than has already happened between them all. He suggests to Buff that they start to team up, and challenge Backstreet Boyz for the tag titles on Explosion tomorrow night. Buff thinks... and accepts. D

CM Punk cuts a promo on his Victory Road cage match against Desmond Wolfe, telling him he is ready to get violent inside the cage. D+

Rick Steiner & Sid Vicious v Vader & Vampiro

A better main event than last week despite it being very similar. Go figure. The four involved just hit the right spots more here and the crowd got into it. Despite Bischoff's best efforts, Sid's momentum doesn't look like ceasing as he helped his team to win in 14:11 when Rick Steiner defeated Vampiro by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. C-

Rick Steiner is celebrating his victory in the ring. Shane Douglas runs in and attacks, beating Steiner down into the mat. C-
