<p>PRE SHOW</p><p>

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Mr Wrestling IV defeated Hernandez in 7:43 by pinfall with a Sudan Elbow Drop. C-</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Impact</strong></p><p>

Saturday, week 4, August 2003</p><p>

Hilliard Gates Sports Centre, Fort Wayne, IN</p><p>

Live on Sci Fi.</p><p> </p><p>

Eric Bischoff and Harley Race are standing in the ring, united in their ideas for the first time in months. They welcome everybody to the last edition of Impact to be broadcast on Sci Fi and say how they cannot wait until the show moves to Spike TV next week. They promise the fans they are going to try and make Impact better than ever. They also announce a sixteen man tournament will start on Spike TV. Every week there will be two matches in the tournament until they reach the final. Eight men have already been confirmed for the tournament and the pair announce Ken Anderson, Jody Fleisch, X Division champion Desmond Wolfe, 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown, Vader, Vampiro, Harry Smith and Little Guido as those eight. Oh... and with a tournament there must be a prize... and they announce that the winner of the tournament will become the first ever TNA TV Champion. Crowd roars with approval. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Rick Steiner attacks Alex Wright backstage, then stomps on his body before leaving. Crowd seem rather nonplussed. Steiner seems to be everywhere of late. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ernest Miller v Shane Douglas</strong></p><p>

A reasonable opening contest but one that could have been expected to be better given the two who faced off. The bout was hard to call with it toing and froing from one to the other, but it was when Steve Corino came to ringside and attacked Ernest Miller while Shane Douglas had Robert Brisko that led to Douglas winning in 12:52 by pinfall with a Franchiser following interference from Steve Corino. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Ernest Miller stands seething in the ring after the match and challenges Corino to end this once and for all at No Surrender. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Eric Bischoff is backstage with Ken Shamrock, questioning his passion and attitude. Shamrock says he gave BG James a good beating at Victory Road and if Bischoff questions his passion and attitude, then Shamrock will show him passion and attitude. Bischoff starts squirming and things get worse when Sid walks in. Bischoff, facing two angry volatile men makes a hasty exit. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Devon Storm v Vampiro</strong></p><p>

A second reasonable match, it seems that the move to Spike might be on everybody's mind. Vampiro has been dark and dangerous ever since coming to TNA, and he faced off against somebody nearly as dark in Devon Storm. Vampiro used a lot of mental warfare in this to get the upper hand, playing on his dark and strange ways and getting to Storm. This led to him earning the win in 9:26 by pinfall with a Nail in the Coffin. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas get into a brawl backstage with both men proclaiming they are better than the other when they get pulled apart by security. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Backstreet Boyz, America's Most Wanted and Spanish Announce Team are scuffling backstage over what transpired in the Tag Team Championship match at Victory Road. Harley Race comes by and shouts at them all to stop, he has a solution to decide who should be champion. Given that Spanish Announce Team interfered, he announces that they will face America's Most Wanted at No Surrender, with the winners facing Backstreet Boyz at Bound for Glory... should they still be champions. They will face The Happy Homos at No Surrender in a title defence. Voices raise again as Race walks off. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Happy Homos (with Roger Bagwell) v Paul London & Super Crazy</strong></p><p>

Happy Homos are bonding more and more every week. They looked a class above their opponents as they controlled the majority of the match, taking it in 11:23 when Alex Wright defeated Super Crazy by pinfall with a Homo Delight. The pinfall was interesting too... Wright's head was on top of Crazy's crotch and his crotch was on top of Crazy's head. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRZCDI7ZGBnVPXmQ0ykmVchxzbrRKuLcCbSgypWEEep7x2LUU8&t=1&usg=__fKqNCFOZ6tDi3Lr7lBNdRdvxVNk=</span></p><p>

CM Punk walks down to the ring to a chorus of boos. However, instead of whining and bitching about his loss to Desmond Wolfe, he says he is here to address other issues. He informs the fans he lives clean. He doesn't drink, he doesn't take drugs, he doesn't even smoke. He then goes on to question TNA's policies. He wants to know why that there have been so many drug test failures in TNA and yet they are very rarely made public. He says it is the older generation who are failing, the throwbacks to the dark days of wrestling where drinking and drug taking were common place and the throwbacks who refuse to let go, wrestle until they are well past it and deny the younger, talented guys spots higher up the roster because of the 'old pals act'.</p><p>

Before Punk can continue, he is interrupted by Jeff Jarrett who storms to the ring. He asks Punk "Who the hell do you think you are?" He says what right does he have to question what decisions he and TNA make, who he hires and who he fires. He tells Punk to know his place or leave.</p><p>

Punk asks about Chris Candido. He asks about Buff Bagwell. He asks about BG James... Jarrett is getting irate... he asks about the late British Bulldog. Old guys. All failed drug tests. Why Jeff?</p><p>

Jarrett explodes. He shouts "How dare you" before slapping Punk hard across the face. Instead of fighting back, Punk just smiles. "You know I'm right Jeff". Jarrett doesn't know what to do next, so he walks back up the ramp, pointing at Punk and threatening to fire him. Punk walked in with the crowd booing, he's going to walk out with the fans cheering. <strong>C+</strong> Punk's turn is deemed a complete success.</p><p> </p><p>

Ken Anderson is backstage and tells Desmond Wolfe that Mr Anderssoooooonnnnnn challenges him to a title match at No Surrender. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Frankie Kazarian v Robert Roode</strong></p><p>

Two guys who usually compete much lower down the card put on a match that should have been much lower down the card. Kazarian picked up the win in 5:33 by pinfall with a Wave Of The Future. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Vader and Vampiro assault backstage Sid Vicious until Rick Steiner makes the save. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

A music video is shown to promote American Dragon. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ken Shamrock v Steve Corino</strong></p><p>

I put two consistant, reliable guys to give Impact a good send off on Sci Fi. Whilst the match was good, it was not as good as I had hoped. It was technically sound, just not overly exciting or grabbing. Shamrock took the match in 15:31 by submission with an Ankle Lock, showing Bischoff that he does have the passion and attitude. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating: C-</strong></p><p>

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.</p><p>

Impact preview

Last week Eric Bischoff and Harley Race announced a 16 man tournament to crown the first TNA TV Champion. Tonight the tournament kicks off as well as every championship being defended in the biggest Impact ever.

CM Punk was very opinionated last week about Jeff Jarrett and TNA's less than stellar record of employing wrestlers who have drug problems. Jarrett will make his response.

The Tag Team Championship picture is hotting up, with America's Most Wanted and Spanish Announce Team having serious issues, while Alex Wright and Buff Bagwell have emerged as contenders and have their chance at No Surrender. What will happen on Impact?

Tune in late on Saturday night to watch Impact make it's first appearance on Spike TV.

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Jorge Estrada defeated Robert Roode in 7:02 by pinfall with a Greetings from Graceland. The crowd were turned off by having a match between jobbers. E

Impact

Saturday, week 1, September 2003

State Fair Arena, Birmingham, AL.

Live on Spike TV.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSQalJNKYMW6tZ6_A86j1usGjmRyxL6tWQbtWam7Vt21jQ9Us0&t=1&usg=__jNEz21H9d6k66vInAIVunStME2c=

Harley Race is with Eric Bischoff in the ring. The two have had a fair few differences in recent weeks, but in the last couple of weeks since it is known that Impact was moving to Spike TV, they have been seeing eye to eye. They welcome TNA's fans to Spike TV and state their intention to go all out and produce the best TV possible for Spike TV and the TNA audience. With that, they announce that all the titles will be defended tonight... Desmond Wolfe will face the first ever X Division Champion, Air Paris... Backstreet Boyz will defend against LAX and Jeff Jarrett will defend in a five way against America's Most Wanted and Spanish Announce Team. Not only that, but the first two first round matches in the TV Title tournament will feature Jody Fleisch and Ken Anderson. Crowd pop loudly and Spike TV seem happy with the start... C-

Paul London is shown preparing for a match as Mike Tenay announces that he will be facing Ken Anderson tonight in the TV Title tournament first round. Oddly, the crowd like this more than the opening Bischoff/Race segment! C+

TNA TV TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND

Jody Fleisch v Steve Corino

Fleisch let himself, TNA and everybody associated with making the product down by putting in a stinker. Corino carried him through to at least make the match bearable, but this was not the way anybody wanted the debut match on Spike to go. Corino picked up an easy win to advance in 6:52 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. D

Following the match, a video plays recapping the feud between Ernest Miller and Steve Corino which will lead up to their blow off match at No Surrender. D

Ken Shamrock is backstage going absolutely ballistic, saying how it is an insult that at No Surrender he has to face a nobody in Judas Mesias. He says how he is one of the men that can lead TNA through their rise but the management dump him fighting people he can beat with one hand tied behind his back... hey, now there's a thought... Eric Bischoff thinks the same think as he lurks round the corner, and tells Shamrock that as he is so confident of doing so, then that is what he can try and do. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Backstreet Boyz (champions) v Latin American Exchange (Konnan & Hernandez with Jorge Estrada)

Thankfully this was a significant improvement on the opening contest and one which featured some good action. Estrada was sent to the back early on for tripping Johnny Kashmere as he ran the ropes. This led to the contest being largely fair and interference free, only Konnan occasionally resorting to cheap tactics. It was also not easy for the champions as their challengers gave them a stiff test. They did prevail in 7:51 when Johnny Kashmere defeated Konnan by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. Backstreet Boyz make defence number 7 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C-

Backstage and American Dragon is backstage, talking about how excited he is about TNA's future. He then comes across Mr Wrestling IV and the two masked men stand facing each other, sizing one another up before staring into each other's eyes. Thankfully, they aren't going down the Buff and Roger route as Dragon offers IV a handshake in respect, one that IV accepts. C

(Maybe I could repeat this segment but with Buff and Roger wearing gimp masks?)

Happy Homos are backstage with Roger Bagwell, none of them wearing any gimp masks. They remark how they have a great feeling now and that at No Surrender they will get on top of Backstreet Boyz. They both say how pleasantly surprised they are at how they have bonded and that they are behind each other. The two look at each other and laugh camply. C-

TNA TV TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND

Ken Anderson v Paul London

A mic drops from the ceiling as Ken Anderson has made his way to the ring.

"I come to you tonight hailing from Greeeeeeen Baaaaay Wisconsiiiiiiiin... I weighed in today at two hundred thirty one poooounnnnddddssssss... Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Annnnndddddddddeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsssssoooooooonnnnnnnnnnnn....

...

Annnnnnnddddddddeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrssssssssoooooooonnnnnnn..."

The crowd aren't impressed. We'll have to see if this one catches on. Fortunately, they were a lot more impressed with the match, as Anderson and London put on a decent, entertaining contest. The crowd were hot for London and were increasingly feeling his anguish after several near falls. However, it is Mr Anderson who advances to the quarter finals in 10:18 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. He needs to change his finisher... C+

Rick Steiner is walking backstage, turns a corner, and bumps into Shane Douglas. Douglas says something that Steiner doesn't like, and they start arguing. After some heated words, Douglas challenges Steiner to meet him in the ring for a match at Bound for Glory. Steiner is only too eager to accept. C-

Jeff Jarrett speaks from backstage. He warns him never to question how TNA is run ever again. He warns him never to ever embarrass him in public again. He tells him that over the past week he has come this close (Jarrett closes his finger and thumb so they are almost touching) to being fired but he has decided to suspend him without pay until after the No Surrender pay per view on Sunday. He will then review Punk's position after that event. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Desmond Wolfe (champion) v Air Paris

The latest X Division champion versus the first and it's Wolfe's first defence, and a tough one. Paris was not the first TNA champion by fluke. This he showed by taking the match to Wolfe but the likeable Englishman had the crowd's support. This rallied him and he fought his way back into the match, grounding Paris and taking him out of his comfort zone. This led to a successful first defence in 13:16 by pinfall with a Tiger Bomb. Desmond Wolfe makes defence number 1 of his TNA X Division title. C

America's Most Wanted attack Jose Maximo backstage shortly before the big five way for the World Championship and leave him down and out. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v 'Cowboy' James Storm v 'Wildcat' Chris Harris (both with Dawn Marie & Robert Roode) v Joel Maximo v Jose Maximo (both with So Cal Val)

Jose Maximo did manage to make it to the ring, but was not in good condition. What AMW didn't count on though was Jeff Jarrett, who more than accounted for Jose's worsened condition by taking out his frustrations on CM Punk out on Harris and Storm. What should have been a five way singles match turned out to be a three on two handicap match, when Jose was able to contribute. Maybe Jarrett has promised SAT something in return for their co-operation? The match came to a somewhat predictable ending in 12:28 when Jeff Jarrett defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with The Stroke, although the match was no worse for it. Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 12 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C

Eric Bischoff then comes out and congratulates Jeff Jarrett for the win and a job well done in having a successful first Impact on Spike. For some reason, he then calls out Rick Steiner. Steiner comes to the ring and Bischoff rubber stamps his match with Shane Douglas at Bound for Glory. It's a trap though... Vader and Vampiro appear from under the ring and with Bischoff and Jarrett giving orders, put the boots in on Steiner. Sid Vicious comes racing to the back and deals with Vader and Vampiro and turns to face Jarrett... he points at Jarrett who looks like he has just cacked himself, before he bails, just avoiding a wild swing of Sid's fist.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Paul London drew with Sheik Abdul Bashir in 7:44 when the referee lost control and stopped the match, though everybody was puzzled as to why it was stopped. C-

Jeff Jarrett opens the show by remarking that he is completely confident of his title defence tonight against Chris Candido and also passes remarks regarding CM Punk, warning him that if he crosses the boss again, his life in TNA won't be worth living. C+

Full Blooded Italians v Latin American Exchange (Konann & Jorge Estrada)

Although Hernandez is willing to work through a broken toe, LAX go with the Konann and Estrada combination. Either way they are understrength and despite a poor showing from Tony Mamaluke, the FBI make full use of their opponent's misfortune. Guido looks good as he earns his team the victory in 7:17 when Little Guido defeated Konnan by pinfall with an Arriverderci. An OK opener. D+

Air Paris v Super Crazy

A fast paced, good quality match between two guys who can definately achieve things in TNA (actually, Paris was the first X Division champion) but don't seem to have found their spot yet. The fans were firmly behind Crazy but Paris edged it in 10:41 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C

Rick Steiner is backstage talking about his tag team match with Sid tonight against Vader and Vampiro when Shane Douglas interrupts him, not for the first time. Douglas calls Steiner "a dirty mutt", which angers Steiner but Douglas makes his escape before Steiner can get hold of him, saying that he will take care of him at Bound for Glory II. E+

Doug Williams v Frankie Kazarian

Things improve again in another X Division (ish?) contest. The fast all rounder Kazarian gives the Brit a lot of trouble and also shows he isn't shy about taking the odd short cut here and there too. The wily Brit has seen a lot of these tricks though and puts on a solid technical display. Technical wrestling wins out on this occasion as in 10:02 Doug takes it by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. C-

KEN SHAMROCK FIGHTS WITH ONE HAND TIED BEHIND HIS BACK

Judas Mesias v Ken Shamrock

Mesias makes fun of the one armed Shamrock at first, laughing at him and plays with him, putting him in a headlock, an armbar and then slapping him. Shamrock is enraged. He headbutts Mesias hard, square in the face. Mesias drops like a sack of potatoes. Shamrock applies the Ankle Lock with his free arms. Mesias taps in 1:26. Easy. Sadly not particularly entertaining. D

Having picked up the victory, Ken Shamrock poses for his adoring fans, moving to each side of the ring in turn, with the cheers only growing louder. E+

American Dragon v Mike Sanders

A considerably more entertaining affair. While Sanders threatened in parts, Dragon always looked the more likely winner here and duly obliged in 11:48 by submission with an Arms Across America. With two defeats for the title against Jeff Jarrett within the last few months... where does Dragon go from here? C-

Ernest Miller speaks from backstage just prior to his final showdown against Steve Corino. He says he has to win tonight... he has no option other than to win tonight... he must prove to himself he is better than Corino. E+

Ernest Miller v Steve Corino

Both men were intense here and the match on it's own was perfectly acceptable. However, with it being their fourth meeting in the past few weeks, and the other three being considerably better, the match as a whole pretty much bombed. This was bad for Miller, who finally got the better of his adversary in 16:49 by pinfall with a Thrust Kick. E-

Eric Bischoff and Harley Race are sitting in the management office. They both say how pleased they are with their recent work in getting the Spike TV deal and the TV Title tournament. Race tells Bischoff he has one last thing to discuss... Sid getting a title match. Bischoff flips, rants at Race, saying "never" before storming out. C-

WINNER'S RECEIVE A NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH AT BOUND FOR GLORY II

America's Most Wanted (with Robert Roode & Dawn Marie) v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A good match with lots of fast tags and slick double team moves. Precisely what makes a good tag team match. Both teams fought tooth and nail as they look to bag themselves a Tag Team Championship match before confusion began to reign. Mickey Jay took a bump when Chris Harris inadvertantly nailed him with a drop kick when Joel Maximo avoided contact. Robert Brisko came to the ring to take up refereeing duties, but when all four men were fighting in the ring, Jay had come back to. Harris hit a German Suplex on Jose Maximo while Joel Maximo hit a Northern Lights Suplex on James Storm. 1... 2... 3... Jay counted in favour of Harris and Brisko in favour of Joel Maximo. Fans murmer as the referees confer, before consulting the ring announcer who declares the match a draw. C-

Mr Wrestling IV speaks from backstage. He says he is a little disappointed with how he has fared and performed in his first few weeks in TNA, but vows he will improve and achieve the goals he has set himself. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Desmond Wolfe (champion) v Mr Anderson

This match was disappointing. Mr Anderson's recent change in look and persona bought a new outlook to this title match and had fans wondering whether he would catch Wolfe off guard as a result and take the title. And in spite of some decent wrestling action, the match was a bit stale. Wolfe retained in 13:48 by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. Desmond Wolfe makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title. D

Having picked up the victory, Desmond Wolfe celebrates in the ring. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Backstreet Boyz (champions) v Happy Homos (with Roger Bagwell)

Another good match. Happy Homos came into the match with a strategy to overplay the homosexuality. This agitated the champions. This went a step further when midway through the match, Buff Bagwell kissed Trent Acid on the lips! Acid's response was to punch Bagwell in his. The champions then channeled their venom and disposed of their challengers in 14:52 when Trent Acid defeated Alex Wright by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. Backstreet Boyz make defence number 8 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C-

The camera cuts backstage where we find Sid Vicious warming up for the next tag team match. C+

Rick Steiner & Sid Vicious v Vader & Vampiro

Surprisingly the crowd weren't really into this one much. Maybe Sid has faced some combination of Vader and Vampiro that often of late, whether it be in ring or backstage, they are getting a little bored of it. The match itself was fine enough, but the quiet crowd made it lack any spark. The end came in 19:36 when Sid Vicious defeated Vampiro by pinfall with a Powerbomb. D+

As we wait for the match between Jeff Jarrett and Chris Candido to commence, Don West, Mike Tenay and Potter run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Chris Candido

Again a little disappointing, though this time more due to the fact that Jarrett and Candido don't appear to click. Jarrett came into the match full of confidence, appeared very arrogant throughout the match and for large portions was in full control. He then was surprised by a ferocious Candido comeback and a surprise was on the cards and Jarrett's title under threat.

Then CM Punk came to ringside. Instead of going after Jarrett like everybody expected, he attacked Chris Candido, hitting him with a GTS and causing Rudy Charles to give the match to Jeff Jarrett in 17:27 by disqualification. Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 13 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. D+

The crowd starts to boo Punk. Underterred, he gets on the mic and tells Jarrett that the only reason that he interrupted this match is that he will not sit back and allow a drug user like Chris Candido to become the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion. The crowd start cheering again. Punk then tells Jarrett that he doesn't care if he crosses the boss, he is on a mission to ensure that TNA is clean and drug free and have fair competition for all. "Think about that 'boss'" finishes Punk. C+

Some of the angles helped to lift the show. The show may have hurt TNA's popularity overall.
