PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Tony Mamaluke defeated Jody Fleisch in 6:42 by submission with a Sicilian Stretch. D+

Impact

Saturday, week 4, September 2003

Western Hall, Macomb, IL.

Live on Spike TV.

Harley Race is in the ring and he asks the X Division Champion, Desmond Wolfe to come down to the ring. Wolfe does so, and shakes Race's hand, asking what he wants to say. Race says that he has been thinking about the X Division and has been given a lot of thought to whom Wolfe should defend the title against at the biggest pay per view of the year. After much deliberation, he feels that it should be somebody who will not only put on an excellent match with Desmond Wolfe, but also somebody that will present him with a stern challenge, so he introduces Air Paris, TNA's first X Division Champion as Wolfe's challenger at Bound for Glory II.

Paris walks out and gets in Wolfe's face and the two go nose to nose. Race says this is exactly the sort of intensity he wants to go with the exciting action they will provide and that he is looking forward to their match at Bound for Glory II. C+

American Dragon speaks from backstage where he derides the talent in TNA and challenges anybody to man up and face him in a match at Bound for Glory II... where Dragon will show he is superior to everybody here. Dragon drew some boos. C-

TV TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND

Harry Smith v Judas Mesias

A disappointing opener, one that Smith had the upper hand in the majority of but only Dusty Rhodes helped to lift the contest from being turgid. Smith took the win in 6:34 by submission with a Bulldog Bite. D-

Following the match, Rhodes comes into the ring, congratulates his young protege on the win and says that under his guidance, Smith can really go places. D+

Rick Steiner attacks Alex Wright backstage, then stomps on his body before leaving and states his hatred for homosexual foreigners. Controversial! D

Paul London v new wrestler

And introducing...

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRjOwQ-ODoSK4NewGKsUVj9kSzl1ZN69ohKEWSA-OkmqXl9Kf0&t=1&usg=__4oo-sO87Z3eDAV0lpfN4X6o21H8=

Everybody is taken by complete surprise... including Paul London, the poor sap who has a mystery debutant as his opponent. To be fair to London, he fared well against Daniels, but Daniels put in an impressive debut performance to take the match in 8:02 by pinfall with a Last Rites. C-

Jose Maximo and Trent Acid are going at in the crowd, attacking each other near the seats and the concession stands before they both disappear from view. Issues clearly aren't settled from last week! C-

Shane Douglas comes out dressed like Rick Steiner, and spoofs him hilariously including saying that he hates homosexual foreigners. Controversial! Suddenly Steiner appears, and confronts him. It quickly becomes a brawl, before security and officials come out to break it up. C-

TV TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND

Little Guido v Robert Roode

A second disappointing tournament match of the night... maybe Little Guido debuting his new Japanese style of wrestling didn't go down well... or maybe because he was facing Roode, one of TNA's lesser lights. Guido won comfortably enough in 6:30 by pinfall with an Arriverderci, it just wasn't entertaining. D

Ernest Miller and Harley Race are walking backstage, turns a corner, and bump into Mr Anderson and Eric Bischoff. Bischoff accuses Race of taking favourites at Bound for Glory, to which Race replies it's exactly what it looks like Bischoff is doing and they start arguing. After some heated words, Race and Bischoff say that they have these men represent them at Bound for Glory II. C

Vampiro cuts a dark promo where he says that he will become the first TNA TV Champion and deny Desmond Wolfe the chance to become TNA's first double champion. C+

Pride of Britain v new tag team

And introducing...

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSO__jRVX7Ci16w0SnwG0I8QLI-iK6rI0J9CzxBkjJs8IjdF7A&t=1&usg=__DgAaqcxPt-Hl4RgzrfGUUil-M90=

Abbadon and Shawn Daivari... Middle Eastern Nightmare...

...which is exactly what this was. Another disappointing match, a lacklustre debut from the new team and a walk in the park for the Brits, who since Wolfe winning the X Division Championship have not teamed up much. The end came in 6:39 when Doug Williams defeated Abbadon by pinfall with a Crowning Glory. D

Jeff Jarrett talks about CM Punk, treating him with utter contempt and that he will beat sense into him at Bound for Glory II. Jarrett says that while it would be nice if wrestling were drug free, Punk needs to wake up to the real world. B-

Joel Maximo v 'Wildcat' Chris Harris

A late addition to the show, and in hindsight should have been on it at the expense of one of the others. Most of the action was an average and watchable close encounter, until it descended into complete chaos in 8:57 when Rudy Charles lost control and stopped the match as we saw 'Cowboy' James Storm run in and attack Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo also attack 'Wildcat' Chris Harris. C-

Eric Bischoff is goading Sid Vicious which allows Steve Corino to attack Sid from behind with a steel chair. He then takes the fight to the arena floor. Sid is shoved into an electrical box and is electruted on the spot. The crew members cut the power and medical personnel tend to Sid while Corino and Bischoff escape. C

Ken Shamrock speaks about his match at Bound for Glory II against Mike Sanders. He remarks that Sanders may well show promise, but it doesn't look very promising for him at the big event. C-

CM Punk v Mr Anderson

Finally we have a decent match tonight... and this despite the pair looking a little awkward in the ring together. Fortunately the crowd were well into these two guys and there were some passages of good solid action. Anderson is looking to get into the upper echelons of TNA but Punk is already there and built some more momentum going into his World Championship match by claiming victory in 13:41 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. C

Show rating: C-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

All right, I've been reading this on and off, but something's bugging me. Isn't it Xplosion?

Sorry Jay... Abbadon is a lower midcarder and Daivari an opener, so they won't be chalking up many wins in their early career in TNA together.

I'm sure there are some low card teams and if not, maybe some makeshift jobber teams to help get your MidEast Nightmares over. I could see them move up to midcard or more and eventually even have a good war against AMW a few months down the road. Seems like Davari was built up into a pretty decent draw in your first version. This time maybe he's bringing a partner with him.

a four hour card - wow!! With that much time, can any of your guys go an hour to let them have an awesome match? (maybe Jarrett vs Punk in the main event??)

The Iron Sheik helped him out initially in my TEW08 version, then he had a successful X Division Championship run.

Jarrett and Punk probably will go on for a good while... but the first Bound for Glory and Slammiversary were both four hour shows too. There will be in the region of twelve to fourteen matches at Bound for Glory II. I've already decided on the main ones, even if I haven't made public all of them yet...

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Devon Storm defeated Austin Aries in 8:22 by pinfall with an Inverted DDT. The match was too long given who was involved. D

Explosion

Wednesday, week 1, October 2003

Baltimore Arena, Baltimore, MD.

Live on UrbanXtra pay per view.

Eric Bischoff comes out to start Explosion and talks down to Sid Vicious. Sid comes out incensed, climbs into the ring and threatens Bischoff that if he doesn't shut his mouth he will shut it for him. Bischoff warns Sid that he will fire him if he does so. Sid begrudgingly lets Bischoff go and Bischoff finishes by saying Sid will see some action tonight when he faces Spanish Announce Team and if he can't find a partner, he will face them alone. C+

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Steve Corino

A reasonable opening match and one where Corino used his smarts to largely be in control of the match over Brown's power game. Corino came through the match looking good... a good thing considering he faces Sid Vicious at Bound for Glory II and has a TV Title Tournament Quarter Final coming up. His victory arrived in 10:47 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. D+

A music video is shown to promote Spanish Announce Team. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Backstreet Boyz (champions) v Ring Wizards

A solid performance from the champions in a solid match, their titles weren't seriously in jeopardy at any point although Anderson and Quackenbush did have their moments. The three way at Bound for Glory II for the titles is shaping up to be a very intriguing affair as all teams are looking good. The Boyz took this one in 12:26 when Trent Acid defeated Mike Quackenbush by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. Backstreet Boyz make defence number 9 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C-

Mr Wrestling IV talks about his title challenge against Jeff Jarrett tonight and how he intends to grasp this opportunity with both hands and take the title. C+

Alex Wright v Rick Steiner

Wright took the fight straight to Steiner, unleashing a vicious early assault in revenge for Steiner's recent attacks backstage and unbefitting his usual homosexual gentle demeanour. Steiner used his nous to take a walk outside the ring to halt Wright's assault and slow the match down, which when it resumed saw Steiner firmly in control. It stayed this way until Shane Douglas made an appearance at ringside which distracted Steiner and nearly let Wright win with a roll up where he ended in a position which looked like he was going to bum Steiner. Steiner was mad at this, got straight back up and nailed Wright square in the jaw. This stiff shot led the match to it's conclusion in 9:30 where Steiner won by pinfall following a top rope bulldog. Douglas did not physically interfere and left after Steiner won. C-

A video plays showcasing the X Division Championship reign of Desmond Wolfe. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Desmond Wolfe (champion) v Little Guido

A very good match which saw spells of great action and a hot crowd. Both men's stock rose significantly thanks to this match, especially Guido who had been in the periphery in TNA and has recently altered his ring style. This was used to good effect as his new arsenal of offence often caught Wolfe off guard and Guido came close to winning the title on a number of occasions. Wolfe emerged from a tough title defence though in 12:27 by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. Desmond Wolfe makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Backstage and Ken Shamrock meets Sid Vicious and offers his services as a tag team partner tonight. Sid gladly accepts and says he is pleased to have a partner as good and as reliable as Shamrock. C

American Dragon v Doug Williams

This topped even what came before it and this episode of Explosion is shaping up to be one of the best shows TNA has ever produced. This featured technical wrestling close to it's best as Dragon and Williams put on a mat based clinic. If these two are going to be among the long term future of TNA then it will be a very bright one. Dragon eked out the victory in 12:43 by submission with an Arms Across America and was shown that TNA does indeed have the talent to challenge him... not that he will admit it. B-

Following the match, Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter talk about American Dragon's recent change of attitude. Only West shows support for Dragon. B-

Ken Shamrock & Sid Vicious v Spanish Announce Team

Before the match started, Eric Bischoff appeared and made it a no disqualification match. Shamrock and Sid controlled the early minutes with their individual superiority before SAT used their chicanery and better teamwork to work their match in their favour. It swung back to Shamrock and Sid before Mike Sanders and Steve Corino came charging down to the ring armed with steel chairs. They nailed Shamrock and Sid respectively which led to a huge victory for the Maximos in 15:15 when Jose Maximo defeated Ken Shamrock by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. C

Before the main event, Jeff Jarrett cuts a promo telling CM Punk to watch his next match very closely, as he will do the same to Mr Wrestling IV as he will to Punk at Bound for Glory II. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Mr Wrestling IV

A little disappointing end to what has been a very good night of action. Jarrett was true to his words before the match and mostly toyed with the young IV who did have his moments of offence and a couple of near falls. As the match wore on, IV got tired and his performance and the match started to suffer a bit. The end came in 17:10 by pinfall with The Stroke. Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 14 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C-

Jarrett gets the mic after the match says he hopes CM Punk is ready to have some sense beaten into him at Bound for Glory II as he needs to wake up and live in the real world. C+

Show rating: C

Some of the angles helped to lift the show. The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 7966

Buy rate: 0.35

Profit: $100,791 (new TNA record)

The show is rated the 6th best in TNA's history.

American Dragon v Doug Williams is rated the 4th best in TNA's history.

The 7966 crowd is the 3rd highest in TNA's history.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Super Crazy defeated EZ Money in 7:28 by pinfall with a Crazy Bomb. D+

Impact

Saturday, week 1, October 2003

El Paso County Coliseum, El Paso, TX.

Live on Spike TV.

CM Punk is in the ring and calls out Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett appears and Punk says he is pleased about one thing... everybody tested for drugs after Explosion on Wednesday produced a clean result. However, he is very unhappy about something... he has heard stories that Jarrett has signed another wrestler who has a history of using drugs. He asks Jarrett when he will wake up to the modern world where people want heroes who are clean and free of drugs?

Jarrett is dismissive. He tells Punk to wake up to the real world. The world where money talks and he makes decisions that will make TNA money. And the decision he makes regarding Bound for Glory II is that he will kick Punk's ass and teach him a lesson in what happens in the real world. Punk springs from the ring and chases Jarrett up the ramp and backstage. C+

Travis Morton is backstage with Paul London who takes American Dragon up on his open challenge at Bound for Glory II and London states he will show him how much talent he has. E+

Harry Smith & Jody Fleisch v Middle Eastern Nightmare

Nothing surprising here. Four young guys battle in a mediocre match while the fact it was Britain versus the Middle East seemed lost on the fans in the arena. During the match Mike Tenay announces that Ken Shamrock will team with Paul London tonight and face Mike Sanders and American Dragon. The Arabs took this contest in 5:33 when Shawn Daivari defeated Jody Fleisch by pinfall with an Arabian Night. D

Dusty Rhodes speaks after the match, telling Harry Smith not to feel down that his team lost tonight, Smith showed him he has bags of talent and potential and tells him to focus on his TV Title Tournament Quarter Final match next week. C-

Roger Bagwell comes to the ring and introduces Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell and Alex Wright... who walk out wearing robes. They join Roger in the ring who says they will be holding a bikini competition. Faces of disgust are seen in the audience while Tenay and Potter are shellshocked on commentary. Buff and Alex disrobe and strut their stuff... Alex wearing speedos and a traditional bikini top, and lays a towel on the canvas as soon as the competition starts. Buff meanwhile is wearing a mankini, made famous by Borat. Roger declares Buff the winner as the crowd voice their displeasure. C-

TV Title Tournament Quarter Final

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Mr Anderson

A second disappointing bout, in part due to Mr Anderson having an off night. Even so, he still had too much for The Alpha Male, beating him in 10:44 by pinfall with a Mic Check. D

Backstreet Boyz are walking backstage when they encounter America's Most Wanted. From the opposite side, Spanish Announce Team arrive. Much shouting and finger pointing ensues but surprisingly the three teams involved in the Tag Team Championship match at Bound for Glory II part ways without any physical altercation. D-

Mr Anderson is backstage and warns Desmond Wolfe that if Vampiro isn't able to stop him from becoming TNA's first double champion, then he will in the semi finals... finals... C-

American Dragon & Mike Sanders v Ken Shamrock & Paul London

Better action in an intense match between protagonists at Bound for Glory II. London proved to be the weak link for his team and this left Shamrock frustrated on the apron. Their opponents took advantage in 13:05 when American Dragon defeated Paul London by submission with an Arms Across America before Shamrock stormed out. C-

Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas are seen backstage arguing. C-

Steve Corino attacks Sid Vicious backstage with a steel chair before ramming him head first into a wooden crate, bloodying him. Corino dips his finger in the pool of blood, and rubs it on his chest, wearing it like a trophy. Corino has been the first in TNA to subdue Sid Vicious, and Eric Bischoff must be delighted. C-

Mr Wrestling IV v Shane Douglas

Much better action here. It's clear IV has bags of talent and potential. In time he needs to build up his consistancy. He fared well against Douglas who has of course accomplished much in his career, but was not able to earn the win as Douglas prevailed in 9:02 by pinfall with a Franchiser. Maybe Dusty Rhodes has picked the wrong guy? C+

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSnrXuo6WSqNcRTRFsshSMKd3FgXg4hqpfjMhtke1Cg8Y8Sdrs&t=1&usg=__Ye5ScoJ-sT25NLG2T75FblEZzbw=

The arena and TV screens turn black. There is a pause of a good few seconds before the worlds HE'S COMING appear on the screen and a booming voice says it in the arena. C+

TV Title Tournament Quarter Final

Desmond Wolfe v Vampiro

A reasonable main event match but not of the quality of IV v Douglas. It was back and forth for much of the match until the X Division champion built momentum with some accomplished wrestling which led to Wolfe advancing in 13:24 by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. C-

Eric Bischoff comes out to the ring and calls out Harley Race. He says that enough is enough and tells Race he can no longer work with him. He says it is time to end it once and for all... there can only be one authority figure in TNA. Race tells Bischoff he's not leaving so Bischoff tells him he will make him. Race says how, he's a multiple World Champion while Bischoff can't fight his way out of a paper bag. Bischoff says simple... he bets his job that Mr Anderson will beat Ernest Miller at Bound for Glory II. If Anderson wins, Bischoff stays and Race goes. If Miller wins, Bischoff goes and Race stays. Race agrees as Impact goes off air. C+

Show rating: C-

Some of the angles did not match the standard of the in ring action. The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 3393

TV rating: 0.63

Loss: $63,928 (new TNA record)
