PRE SHOW

AJ Styles is interviewed backstage by Travis Morton, he hypes himself up to the moon. D+

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Austin Aries and EZ Money defeated Caprice Coleman and Evan Karagias in 7:06 when Austin Aries defeated Caprice Coleman by pinfall with a 450° splash. Aries and Money don't work well as a team. D+

Lethal Lottery Match 1

Steve Corino & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell) v Vampiro & Trent Acid

Despite different differences and similar similarities, Vampiro and Acid worked their hardest to team as well as they could. Corino and Buff were a more natural fit together and this gave them the edge which the capitalised on, with Bagwell and Corino advancing when in 9:20 when Steve Corino defeated Trent Acid by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. D+

Eric Bischoff is backstage giving a pep talk to his soldiers, saying he will not settle for more disappointment. He is targetting a Lethal Lottery win for one of his men and Operation Steiner is still an active mission, it's just there are now two that they have to get rid of. The crowd weren't into this segment much. D-

Lethal Lottery Match 2

Doug Williams & Desmond Wolfe v Jeff Jarrett & Jose Maximo (with So Cal Val)

Just a few days after announcing that Pride of Britain will split as a tag team, they are drawn together in Lethal Lottery. This of course was a huge advantage as although they have amicably split, they have many months experience of tagging together. They took the match to their opponents and prevailed in a good match in 12:35 when Desmond Wolfe defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Crowning Glory. C

Ken Shamrock cuts a promo backstage where he says that whether it be through Lethal Lottery or by defeating Jeff Jarrett at Against All Odds, one way or another he will reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship. C

Lethal Lottery Match 3

Hernandez & Ken Shamrock v Homicide & Abyss

Where one former tag team were paired together, one current tag team were drawn on opposite sides, but Hernandez and Homicide did their best to have as little physical contact with each other as possible. In fact, Hernandez took it one stage further when he turned on Shamrock in mid match and fed him to the monster Abyss, who took the win in 9:57 when Abyss defeated Ken Shamrock by pinfall with The Black Hole. Looks like Shamrock will have to defeat Jarrett. D+

Ultimate Warrior screams from backstage, saying he will be the one to win Lethal Lottery and go on to take the belt from Sid Vicious. C

Lethal Lottery Match 4

Johnny Kashmere & CM Punk v Scott Steiner & Shane Douglas

Fans were on the edge of their seat in anticipation of what might happen when they found of Steiner was paired with Douglas. As it happened, Steiner entered the ring, immediately attacked his partner, nailed a belly to belly suplex and left Douglas to fight Kashmere and Punk alone. As a result, Douglas was merely fodder to his opponents and succumbed in 4:39 when CM Punk defeated Shane Douglas by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. D+

Steve Corino cuts a promo from backstage, saying that he was the first to win his place in the battle royal later, he will be the freshest for the match and will go on to beat Sid at Against All Odds. C

Lethal Lottery Match 5

Rick Steiner & Ultimate Warrior v Ernest Miller & AJ Styles

Despite AJ coming out of the match looking very good, he struggled to co-exist with his partner, which against Steiner and Warrior who have paired up sporadically was going to cause problems. Miller's defeat will not make Eric Bischoff happy as all three of his solders have not advanced to the battle royal. This one ended in 10:39 when Rick Steiner defeated Ernest Miller by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. D+

After the match, Abyss runs in and attacks AJ Styles, leaving him lying on the mat. Abyss grunts at AJ that that was for what happened at Genesis and he will gorge some more at Against All Odds. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Christopher Daniels (champion) v Jimmy Rave

The New Dawn have another early opportunity to earn gold following AJ Styles beating Jose Maximo for the TV Title and this was a really tough match for Daniels as Rave fought hard and was dangerous. Daniels did cling on though and took a good match in 14:52 by pinfall with a Last Rites. Christopher Daniels makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. Things won't get any easier for Daniels though, as Mike Tenay announced that he had received word that Daniels would defend against Jerry Lynn at Against All Odds. C

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell was cutting a promo on winning Lethal Lottery before turning his attention to CM Punk, telling him that he feels he is being victimised for his homosexuality by CM Punk. Punk interrupts, telling Buff that as he is a drug taker, he is part of the problem and Punk and his New Dawn are the solution. C

Lethal Lottery Battle Royal

Steve Corino, Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell), Doug Williams, Desmond Wolfe, Homicide, Abyss, Johnny Kashmere, CM Punk, Rick Steiner, Ultimate Warrior

Punk and Bagwell made a beeline for each other and spent all their time in the ring hammering on each other. This was around five minutes, when the monster Abyss made the most of an opporunity to toss them both out for the first eliminations. Abyss then took his tally to four eliminations a few minutes later when he threw out Doug Williams and Desmond Wolfe. Warrior then disposed of Homicide and Kashmere while Corino got rid of Rick Steiner. Warrior then showed his strength by heaving out the monster Abyss but Corino surprised everyone by sneaking up from behind on Warrior and tipping him over the ropes and out of the ring, giving him victory in 25:27. Corino will face Sid at Against All Odds. C+

After the match, Sid Vicious comes down and circles the ring before climbing in and standing toe to toe with Corino. C

Show rating: C

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the ring action.

Attendance: 8382 (new Explosion record)

Buy rate: 0.41 (new Explosion record)

Profit: $107,097 (new Explosion record)

Explosion drew the sixth highest crowd in TNA history and the seventh highest buy rate.

Impact Preview

Steve Corino won Lethal Lottery on Explosion to earn the right for a World Championship match at Sid Vicious at Against All Odds. Tonight, Eric Bischoff has arranged for the two of them to verbally put their case forward about how they will win... and do it face to face.

Paul London has requested time to announce who he has decided will be his manager.

CM Punk has been brutally honest about his views about cleaning up TNA and has the fans on his side. Buff Bagwell will no doubt have things to say about that.

Sid Vicious and Steve Corino are in the ring in a segment mediated by Eric Bischoff. He tells each of them to speak in turn about how they will win at Against All Odds. Vicious goes first and says he will beat up Corino and Choke Slam and Power Bomb him through the mat. Corino says he is not stupid, he is not going to reveal his gameplan before... and he hits Sid over the head with the microphone. With Sid down and holding his head, Bischoff announces that on Impact next week, Sid and Corino will both have a warm up match prior to the big one. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

America's Most Wanted (champions, with Midajah) v Middle Eastern Nightmare

AMW's first defence since winning the belts for a second time and it's against less than stellar opposition in the two Arabs. They won the match fairly comfortably without getting near top gear and with Double X on the horizon, who themselves have yet to really establish themselves as a top team in TNA and AMW seem to be eased into their second reign. This victory came in 6:51 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Abbadon by pinfall with a Death Sentence. America's Most Wanted make defence number 1 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. D

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown is shown backstage, where officials have just found him bloody and battered, the apparent victim of a sneak attack. He is stunned but conscious, but doesn't know who attacked him other than him saying it was somebody wearing a strange mask. D-

Harley Race is seen backstage walking along a corridor, having a look of self confidence about him. C+

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Austin Aries

Brown was clearly affected by the attack moments before the match and Aries capitalised fully, homing in on Brown's weakened state and coming out with his biggest TNA win to date, something which he milked after the bell. Aries' win came in 5:33 by pinfall with a Brainbuster. D+

Eric Bischoff is backstage with American Dragon. They hype the second mask match between Dragon and Mr Wrestling IV and the fact it is no disqualification. Dragon says it is time we saw who Mr Wrestling IV is and Bischoff remarks that is something he's been looking forward to. D+

We are outside the locker room of Ken Shamrock. He opens the door outwards, just in time to accidentally hit a passing by Race square in the face, flooring him. Ken Shamrock doesn't notice what he has done, and walks off. Race's earlier look of self confidence has changed to one of anger and pain. C

Divine Storm v Steiner Brothers

Scott is still showing signs of ring rust while this match showed signs of tepidness. It was not captivating or exciting for the crowd or TV audience and wasn't helped by the Steiners dominating the majority. Their win came in 5:42 when Scott Steiner defeated Quiet Storm by pinfall with a Steinerline. D

Paul London comes to the ring and announces he has decided which of the three managers - Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race and Roger Bagwell - he has decided to have as his manager. He says he is honoured to have as his manager... Dusty Rhodes. Dusty comes out to a good reception. D-

Buff Bagwell is in the ring and says he is fed up of being victimised by CM Punk. Yes, he admits he has made mistakes in the past but they were all in the past and Punk cannot see that since his marriage to the beautiful Roger he became a changed man. He is interrupted...

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Punk comes out and tells Bagwell that a leopard does not change his spots. Buff asks Punk "what about second chances" to which Punk replies that Buff not only had a second chance, even a third chance, for some reason TNA management deems fit that Buff deserves a fourth chance. Punk tells Buff that he failed three drugs tests while in TNA and yet unlike other wrestlers like Mr Anderson and British Bulldog, Buff was not fired after the third test. This is why Buff is the first target in the New Dawn's cleansing. He tells Buff that he will be on commentary to see AJ out wrestle him in tonight's main event, then he himself will start the cleansing job at Against All Odds. B-

Jeff Jarrett v The British Champion

While a couple of British wrestlers of serious ability in TNA, plus Jody Fleisch who might have made a one of return, people were anticipating Jarrett to give himself a tougher match with the big match against Ken Shamrock eight days away. Not so...

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLF1x5V1Pgs?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLF1x5V1Pgs?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

A wrestler named Pac is introduced. Jarrett attacks him as he enters the ring and dominates him for the entire match, which mercifully isn't too long. The inevitable happens in 5:07 when Jarrett wins by submission with a Figure Four Leg Lock. D+

Mr Wrestling IV speaks, saying there is no way he is losing the second mask match, he has all the motivation he needs when Dragon refused to unmask after the first match. C-

Scott Steiner speaks from backstage, where he laughs off Eric Bischoff's pathetic belief that he will get rid of he and his brother Rick in Operation Steiners. Shane Douglas walks by and tells Steiner that if he thinks it's pathetic now, he won't a week on Sunday when he has beaten him in the middle of the ring. C

Kid Kash v The Amazing Red

Easily the best action of the night so far as two wrestlers with exciting offence took it to each other with one being a new arrival and the other part of the New Dawn. Had there been more crowd interest in this before the match, it might have been better still. Either man could have claimed victory but it was Red who did so, in 13:30 by pinfall with a Code Red. C

Jeff Jarrett was speaking from backstage, saying that he has gone through almost every national champion that is worthy in the wrestling world and is finally proving to the world what he knows, that he is the real world champion. Ken Shamrock interrupts and tells Jarrett to get real, most of his opponents in this nonsense have been easy and all have been hand picked. Shamrock tells Jarrett that we'll see how he does when he faces quality opposition that he hasn't chosen himself at Against All Odds. Jarrett says he is only too ready for Shamrock. C

TNA TV TITLE

AJ Styles (champion) v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell)

CM Punk replaced Potter on commentary for this one and he proved to be a constant distraction for Bagwell, who whenever he gained the ascendancy in the match he felt he had to start shouting over at Punk. This made Punk just laugh and allowed AJ to get back into the match. With Bagwell's head elsewhere than on the task in hand, defending the belt wasn't too difficult for AJ, who won in 15:07 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. AJ Styles makes defence number 1 of his TNA TV title. D+

Impact Preview

With Against All Odds only one day away, rivalries are already at boiling point. Last week Eric Bischoff said Sid Vicious and Steve Corino would face warm up opposition, and that opposition is Abyss and Desmond Wolfe.

CM Punk's New Dawn have laid out their early intentions and Punk was on hand to see AJ Styles overcome Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell last week. Will Buff look for any kind of revenge or a pre-emptive shot before Against All Odds?

Austin Aries has improved of late including a surprising, albeit opportunistic win over Monty Brown last week. Can he continue his improvement?

Watch the action on Spike TV on Saturday night.

MATCHES

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP - Sid Vicious (champion) v Abyss

TNA TV TITLE - AJ Styles (champion) v Air Paris

Desmond Wolfe v Steve Corino

Corino has the world title shot at AAO, so I can't see him losing to Wolfe here and hurting the heat on the match. Can see him getting involved in Sid's match later - maybe giving Abyss some pointers to go after a body part and injure it to give him an edge in their title match.

Backstreet Boyz v Double X

should be a good match with the former champs going at it with the current top contenders. Expect Double X to get the win to get them hotter for the PPV -- need a solid angle here to make thier title match more interesting (higher heat)

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Austin Aries v Jose Maximo

Austin has been the hot star of late and gotten some surprise wins for sure. This win should help catapult him up the ladder even more.

Sid Vicious is walking out to start Impact, but he only gets as far as the end of the stage as Steve Corino executes a precise sneak attack, hitting Sid square on the back of the head. He drags Sid back up and hits an Old School Kick on him. With Sid down and not getting up, Corino stands over him and taunts him, telling him that "brains will always beat brawn". C-

A music video is shown to promote the Tag Team Champions, America's Most Wanted. B-

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Austin Aries v Jose Maximo (with So Cal Val)

Aries has shown significant improvement of late and continued this as he more than held his own against Brown and Maximo, he looked dangerous. Maximo was not at his best but the former TV Champion still just about had enough to take the contest in 6:29 when Jose Maximo defeated Austin Aries by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. D+

Backstage and Roger Bagwell is blaming Harley Race for not becoming Paul London's manager. Race tells him to stop being pathetic and have a look in the mirror to see why London did not pick him as his manager. C-

CM Punk is backstage with two members of his New Dawn, Caprice Coleman and Jimmy Rave. He says he is delighted with how things are going so far, he has the measure of Buff Bagwell ahead of Against All Odds while AJ Styles has won the TV Title. He suggests that Coleman and Rave tag up together for a while and see how things go. Coleman and Rave quite like the idea. C

Backstreet Boyz v Double X (with Francine)

A decent enough match and one where AMW's challengers tomorrow night built up some needed momentum and morale in beating the former two time champions. Kashmere and Acid have not been as good as they were in recent weeks but that should not take anything away from a solid performance from Kazarian and Romero. Their win came in 8:17 when Rocky Romero defeated Johnny Kashmere by pinfall with a High Speed. C-

A video plays hyping American Dragon vs. Mr Wrestling IV and recapping their history. C

Backstage and Johnny Kashmere comes across Homicide in a corridor. Homicide is laughing at Kashmere for Backstreet Boyz' loss against Double X. Kashmere looks mildly depressed. D

TNA TV TITLE

AJ Styles (champion) v Air Paris

A quality match between two quality wrestlers matched by a crowd who held a substantial interest throughout the bout. The only thing lacking here was a lack of ring psychology evident. Paris was a handful for Styles and came close to winning the TV Title only for Styles to battle through and keep the belt in 12:29 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. AJ Styles makes defence number 2 of his TNA TV title. C+

Dusty Rhodes comes out into the arena with Paul London. He hypes London as one of the big stars of the future in TNA and that is why he made him an offer he couldn't refuse to be his manager. He says a more immediate goal is for London to focus on the X Division Championship. C

Scott Steiner was cutting a promo on tomorrow night's match with Shane Douglas when Douglas came by, interrupted and the two started brawling before security eventually broke them up. C

Desmond Wolfe v Steve Corino

Another good quality match which saw Corino get the better of the British former X Division Champion. Corino has come from a lengthy absence and has hit the ground running, winning Lethal Lottery and winning tonight and he has a perfect build up to face Sid tomorrow night for the World Championship. Is it Corino's time? That will be answered at Against All Odds. Tonight, his win came in 10:11 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C

Cameras cut backstage and Jeff Jarrett and Ken Shamrock are in mid brawl in the parking lot. A bevvy of officials and security have to wade in to break them up. C

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell tries a surprise attack on AJ Styles and CM Punk, but ends up getting beaten down by AJ and CM. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Sid Vicious (champion) v Abyss

A reasonable match but not of the quality of two of the earlier contests. Against All Odds would have been turned on it's had had Sid not been able to just get a shoulder up after Abyss hit a Black Hole Slam and came within a gnat's whisker of winning the title. Sid dug deep, used his power and managed to overcome the monster in 16:46 when he won by pinfall with a Powerbomb. Sid Vicious makes defence number 5 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C-

Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter run through the Against All Odds card before Impact goes off air. C+
