TNA's New Beginnings II

Recommended Posts

Who will Roger and Buff "recruit".....um.....I mean "turn".....um.....well by whatever term, who will take Bagwell's place against Monty? With Alex out of the picture, Roger and Buff need a good 3rd (menage a trois)

congrats on the DOTM!!!!!

Nice to see some of your guys doing so well on the indy circuit. Hope you are able to capitalize on their popularity in those local areas to draw bigger crowds and ratings.

Thanks bud.

My large roster has something to do with the fact my guys are doing well in the indies... I have that many decent wrestlers!

I have a replacement lined up... it will be revealed on Impact.

Things are getting intense in TNA with Destination X a few days away. Friendships are at straining point with AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels at loggerheads over Ultimate X. With Air Paris, CM Punk, Jerry Lynn and Jose Maximo also in the mix, this is going to be one wild affair.

Jeff Jarrett has been getting up Sid Vicious' nose big time of late, costing him both the chance to regain the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship and then a match against the now injured Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell. Will Sid get his own back or will Jeff Jarrett continue to frustrate him?

Meanwhile, Abyss has physically been getting the better of Steve Corino, who is promising revenge at the pay per view. Will he even be able to manage to compete, with how things are going?

And we haven't even mentioned the much anticipated contest between Bryan Danielson and Ken Shamrock!

Spike TV on Saturday night is where to find the action with Destination X one day away.

Live on Spike TV

Sid Vicious is in the ring and demands that Jeff Jarrett joins him. Jarrett does come out but stands in the relative comfort zone of the bottom of the ramp. Sid hisses at Jarrett that he is fed up of his bull**** and he wants to settle things tonight, not tomorrow night. Jarrett says fine, he wants to take Sid out so he won't have to face him tomorrow night at Destination X... but not right now. He has had words with Eric Bischoff and they have signed a tag team bout for tonight between Sid Vicious and Ken Shamrock against Bryan Danielson and Jeff Jarrett. Sid looks partially pleased with this development as Jarrett backs up the ramp. C

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown, Mr Wrestling IV & Paul London (with Dusty Rhodes) v Austin Aries, Mike Quackenbush & Mike Sanders

At the start of the match, Mike Tenay announced that Eric Bischoff has named Hernandez as the substitute for Buff Bagwell and will be Monty Brown's opponent tomorrow night at Destination X.

Monty was wary of his partners given that Quackenbush turned on him last week. Although IV was below he usual standard, he need not have worried about the trust of his partners as they backed him throughout. However, the trio of Aries, Quackenbush and Sanders were a slicker unit and looked like they would prevail only for London to pull one out of nowhere in 8:27 when Paul London defeated Mike Quackenbush by pinfall with a fast roll up. D+

CM Punk is in the locker room with his New Dawn tag team of Caprice Coleman and Jimmy Rave. He psyches them up for their tag team match tomorrow night against Eric's Army and the two leave with motivation and belief levels high. C-

Backstage and Sid Vicious gets attacked from behind by the monster Abyss... who stands there cackling after the beating. Jeff Jarrett is seen in the background with a large smirk on his face. D+

TNA TV TITLE

AJ Styles (champion) v Jose Maximo

A good match that suffered a little by drifting along due to a lack of psychology. The match went back and forth between the current champion and the man he beat for the title with both men having numerous chances to take the win. The champion was the man that did in 10:50 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. AJ Styles makes defence number 7 of his TNA TV title. C

After an ad break, AJ Styles is backstage buoyant as he walks. Christopher Daniels comes by and tells him he won't be so happy after Ultimate X tomorrow night. The two start jaw jacking before Jose Maximo comes by coming back from the TV Title match. CM Punk hears the commotion from near by and the four have a loud argument about who will walk away with the X Division Championship tomorrow night. C-

Backstage and Steiners and America's Most Wanted are verbally duelling one night before AMW defend their Tag Team Championship. Scott Steiner then turns his attention to Midajah, telling her to have some of the Big Bad Booty Daddy. This leads to Harris and Storm attacking Scott Steiner. Rick assists his brother and security and officials come to break up the fight. C

Christopher Daniels & Air Paris v CM Punk & Jerry Lynn

A match with significant implications for Ultimate X as all four men in the match feature in that contest tomorrow night. As it turned out, both pairings worked well despite what is on the horizon and with intensity in the air, the match was entertaining. The straight edge star emerged triumphant in 9:50 when CM Punk defeated the X Division champion Christopher Daniels by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge and after the match the four had an intense staredown at each other. C+

Backstage Bryan Danielson taunts Ken Shamrock before a match, trying to goad him into snapping. Shamrock remains calm, and warns Danielson that he's given him motivation now. C-

CM Punk is backstage, talking about how his win over Christopher Daniels in the tag team match gives him all the momentum going into Ultimate X. Scott Steiner interrupts though, telling Punk he needs to get a life and live a little, rather than live by all this straight edge bull****. Punk retorts that Steiner has no ethics and he is reflective of what management in TNA think. The two bicker as the camera fades away. C+

Desmond Wolfe v Vampiro

Vampiro was off his game, which is not going to do him much good given he has not had much exposure recently in TNA. As a result, Wolfe looked strongest throughout and it was no surprise when he took the match in 8:37 by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. C-

Steve Corino is walking backstage when Abyss comes out of hiding and attacks. Corino is bungled into the boot/trunk of a waiting car, Abyss climbs into the passenger seat and the car drives off. C-

Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas speak from backstage, saying that no amount of motivational talk from CM Punk will save his New Dawn from an embarrassing defeat tomorrow night. D+

Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter preview Destination X, understandably putting more focus on the Danielson v Shamrock match than any other. C+

Bryan Danielson & Jeff Jarrett v Ken Shamrock & Sid Vicious

Another disappointing main event and one that descended into complete chaos when all four men started wildly brawling in the ring and at ringside which led to Mickey Jay throwing the match out. D+

Show rating: C-

The show might have hurt TNA's overall popularity.

Some of the angles helped to lift the show as a whole.

I made my picks way back (page 72) -- will switch to Monty getting the win since Buff is out of action. Was hoping maybe Seaman Stains would be making a return to TNA as Buff's replacement. This at least lets Monty get a win and improve his standings for when Buff does get back to the ring.

Brave time to choose Olympia, given that only ten matches had been announced. You're missing one. ;)

went out on a limb there. especially with the predicted newcomer run-ins.

I will go with Jarrett defeating Sid in the added match. Seems that CM Punk's presence may be drying up the roid source, and guys like Sid are on borrowed time.

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Hernandez

A lacklustre opener partly due to the two sharing little in ring chemistry and partly due to the lack of build up with Hernandez being a late substitute for the injured Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell. The two traded power moves and power struggles with some hard hitting shots and slams scattered throughout. Monty overcame his opponent in 7:17 by pinfall with The Pounce. D

Ken Shamrock speaks from backstage, saying how all his focus tonight is on reclaiming the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship and he will do so in one of the best technical wrestling matches seen in recent years. C-

Backstreet Boyz v Quiet Storm

Another disappointing affair with everybody hoping that things really pick up later in the show. Kashmere and Acid had too much quality for their opponents, but were non too impressive themselves as they claimed victory in 6:02 when Trent Acid defeated Chris Divine by pinfall with a Backstreets Back. D

Sid cuts a promo where he hisses that he will rip Jarrett's head off, that he has messed in his business once too often. C-

Arashi Assassins v Double X (with Francine)

A little better but still some way short of the standard expected in a developing TNA. Like the previous match, one duo stood out as being better than the other, and this time it was Double X to look the more superior. They made their control of the match count in 9:27 when Frankie Kazarian defeated Keiji Sakoda by pinfall with a Wave Of The Future. D+

Dusty Rhodes is backstage with Paul London prior to his match which is up next. Rhodes hypes London to the moon, saying that he is a future X Division champion and will go places in TNA. C+

Mike Sanders v Paul London (with Dusty Rhodes)

On this evidence, Rhodes strong hype will come true. A much better match than those earlier in the night as Sanders and London left nothing in the lockerroom and wrestled their hearts out. London took the victory and was made to work for it, with it coming in 11:21 by pinfall with a London Calling. C+

Mr Wrestling IV speaks from the bottom of the entrance steps. He has his match with Mike Quackenbush coming up next and he says that he will out wrestle and out fight him. C

Mike Quackenbush v Mr Wrestling IV

Another match which saw some pockets of great action and hopefully the quality that has picked up can be maintained throughout the rest of the show. For the opening few minutes, the match was very even, with Quackenbush handling everything that IV was able to give him. IV managed to assume control and eked out the win in 10:06 by pinfall with a Sudan Elbow Drop. C+

New Dawn - Coleman and Rave - speak as they are about to enter the arena for their match. They say they are pumped and psyched to face Miller and Douglas and want to impress CM Punk. C

Eric's Army (Miller & Douglas) v New Dawn (Coleman & Rave)

Probably the best tag team match yet in TNA. The crowd were firmly behind the New Dawn with some straight edge chants and vehemently against Miller and Douglas, booing pretty much their every mood. The action match the crowd with Coleman and Rave providing the excitement and Miller and Douglas providing the chicanery, psychology and chain wrestling. It made for a fascinating contest where New Dawn performed very well and were close to claiming victory on numerous occasions. The end came in 10:58 when Shane Douglas defeated Caprice Coleman by pinfall with a Pittsburgh Plunge. Coleman and Rave looked devastated following their effort. B-

Steiners are backstage ready to challenge for the tag team titles. Scott speaks, saying they will rip AMW's pathetic little heads off and claim the only major tag team championship the Steiners have yet to win. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

America's Most Wanted (champions, with Midajah) v Steiners

A hot crowd and some hot action. All four men put in strong performances with Steiners eager to claim the gold that AMW eagerly wanted to keep. Despite Steiners' actions in recent weeks, there was a section of the crowd that were behind the stand out veterans. Steiners were taking control when Midajah injected herself by sexily distracting Rudy Charles. CM Punk took this opportunity to interject himself into the match by first attacking Rick Steiner and then his brother Scott. This was just the opening that AMW needed and this led to them clinging onto the belts in 14:16 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Scott Steiner by pinfall with a Death Sentence following interference from CM Punk. America's Most Wanted make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C+

Jeff Jarrett speaks from his luxurious locker room. He says he is not worried about Sid Vicious as he knows that he will outsmart him every time. C

Jeff Jarrett v Sid Vicious

Sid had all of the opening minutes as he pounded Jarrett from pillar to post. Somehow Jarrett managed to withstand Sid's onslaught and eventually managed to get in some offence of his own. Sid grew tired as the match wore on and Jarrett capitalised on this by getting an increasing amount of offence in. In the end, his pre match comments rang true as he outsmarted Sid, winning in 14:44 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. C

As we await for the world title match, Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter run through the tale of the tape. C

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQsCHSUEEaLUwteAuJvoeawCK7e29mOWY3tF_woa1s4ks-bhqN6Yg

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Bryan Danielson (champion) v Ken Shamrock

A lot of pre match hype that this would be a wrestling classic... and it turned out to be hugely disappointing. It featured two men who on their day can be considered among the best in the world tonight just didn't have it. The match was a technical affair as expected as Danielson and Shamrock traded holds. The match went on too long considered how it panned out, with the champion retaining in 21:28 by pinfall. Bryan Danielson makes defence number 2 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. D+

The crowd await the next match when a black car drives into the arena. Harley Race and Abyss step out of the car and Abyss opens the boot/trunk. He carries out a tied up Steve Corino, who is wearing the same, now shredded and blood stained clothes as when he was abducted by Abyss on Impact last night. Abyss carries Corino to the ring and unties him. C-

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Steve Corino

Corino is clearly not with it following whatever ordeal he has been through at the hands of Race and Abyss over the last twenty four hours. Abyss has control of the match and although Corino does mount a couple of spirited fightbacks and holds off for as much as he can, Abyss pretty much destroys Corino in 10:24 by pinfall with The Black Hole. After the match, Abyss and Race tie Corino back up, place him back in the boot/trunk of the black car and Race drives them off out of the arena. C+

A video plays hyping the goings on in between Christopher Daniels, Air Paris, AJ Styles, CM Punk, Jerry Lynn and Jose Maximo in anticipation of the main event, the Ultimate X match. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

ULTIMATE X

Christopher Daniels (champion) v Air Paris v AJ Styles v CM Punk v Jerry Lynn v Jose Maximo (with So Cal Val)

The belt hangs on two cables high above the canvas as the six men enter and look up at the prize...

What followed was a high octane, fast paced match with plenty of action on the cables and plenty of falls from them. Paris and Styles clashed on top of the X before both men kicked each other down to the canvas. Punk and Maximo were grappling with each other on the cables when both men dropped to the mat. Sickest off all though was when Daniels leapt across onto Jerry Lynn who was trying to grab the belt. He landed fairly hard on the cable cross, and while it prevented Lynn from grabbing the belt, Lynn was able to position Daniels and hit a Cradle Piledriver from the cables to the canvas. It was a sick bump, one which took some time for Lynn to get up from and one from which Daniels didn't, it put him out of the match.

Shortly after, Maximo and Styles raced across the cables. Air Paris grabbed Styles from below and shook him off, and this allowed Maximo to collect the belt in 20:45. Jose Maximo wins the TNA X Division title. Maximo celebrates while Styles and Paris stare each other down and Daniels looks in a bad way. B-

Somehow, all Christopher Daniels came away with from Ultimate X was a bruised thigh, he will not miss any action.

Not so fortunate is Frankie Kazarian, who will miss 3 weeks with a broken shoulder.

Jimmy Rave, Mike Quackenbush, Quiet Storm and Caprice Coleman all returned clean drug tests. Scott Steiner failed for a second time.

Well done to TFC, your prize is to pick the two team captains for Lethal Lockdown. You can choose anyone on the TNA roster, or not but you run the risk that I might not be able to sign them. Also, decide if you want to inform me in the thread or by PM.

wild to see Coleman-Rave vs Douglas-Miller as the best tag match (AMW vs Steiners coming in maybe a close 2nd?). those coupled with the Main event really carried the show. several other matches just were not up to par, Great show overall though - you have TNA on the rise

will be interesting to see where TFC takes the next PPV with his Captain's choices.

Speaking of which, can TFC please make his picks by Monday midday (GMT) as I have this on hold for now. Planning for Lockdown depends on who he picks as captains and I can't progress until he has chosen. If he doesn't by this time, I will press on and pick them myself.</p>
