PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, New Dawn defeated Divine Storm in 8:25 when Jimmy Rave defeated Quiet Storm by pinfall with a Dawn Awakening. D+

Explosion

Wednesday, week 2, April 2004

Gampel Pavillion, Storrs, CT.

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS8jU8HLbQCK_oRoqzJ9Ph85mf3McUxMuinjS8RRQxxhfmlDx3NAQ

Live on UrbanXtra pay per view

Explosion starts with Harley Race backstage with Abyss. Race tells Sid Vicious he has made a big mistake in interfering in business he has no business interfering with. What is happening between he, Abyss and Corino is between the three of them, but as he has put his nose in, Abyss will take him out in tonight's main event. C-

Arashi Assassins v Latin American Exchange

The opening contest was a rather stodgy affair and the only really thing of note to come out of it was a slightly surprising result, as Arashi Assassins finally came good as a team and closed out the match in 7:51 when Keiji Sakoda defeated Jorge Estrada by pinfall with a Roaring Elbow. It's Storm & Sakoda's first significant win in TNA. D

CM Punk is backstage, discussing Lethal Lockdown with AJ Styles and also psyching him up for his X Division challenge tonight, telling him it's a golden opportunity for the New Dawn. C-

Jerry Lynn v Mike Quackenbush

Significantly better than the first match, during which not the highest paid announcer in pro wrestling, Mike Tenay, announced that these two along with Christopher Daniels, Mike Sanders and the two New Dawn members who are not in Lethal Lockdown will meet at Lockdown in an X Division Xscape match where the winner will get an X Division Championship match on the following pay per view. Back to the present and Lynn largely had the better of Quackenbush and he utilised his dominance to prevail in 9:20 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. C-

Sid Vicious cuts a promo on Abyss, retorting that he is interfering in his business because of his dispicable acts to Steve Corino. He assures Abyss that Corino will be back to get his, but tonight, Sid will get Abyss. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

America's Most Wanted (with Midajah) v Full Blooded Italians

A good match and Little Guido continued his fine form since returning last week, ably assisted by Tony Mamaluke. They proved problematic for the champions who dug deep to stay in the match. The fought back and retained the belts in 10:10 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Little Guido by pinfall with a Death Sentence. America's Most Wanted make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C

<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lO2WeueYtwQ?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Eric Bischoff walks out with his Army, or more specifically Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas, who is carrying the Feast or Fired briefcase. Bischoff congratulates the champions on a hard fought victory, but he feels that as they are on a roll they can defend the titles again. Douglas hands the briefcase to Rudy Charles. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

America's Most Wanted (with Midajah) v Eric's Army (with Eric Bischoff)

Miller and Douglas, being fresh, don't take long to take full advantage of their cash in, defeating the champions fairly quickly, though AMW did hit a couple of big double team moves on their unexpected challengers. The inevitable happened though in 3:32 when Shane Douglas defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with a Franchiser. Eric's Army win the NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. The three celebrate in the ring with their newly won belts. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Jose Maximo (champion) v AJ Styles

Straight into another title match, and a really good one at that. Fast paced offence as both men took it to each other with all of their might. The match tipped both ways (a bit like Buff Bagwell) but featured some great action (not like Buff Bagwell) despite a lack of psychology. Maximo edged out a crestfallen Styles in 14:28 by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. Jose Maximo makes defence number 1 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Abyss has gone out into the parking lot. He checks on the same car that he and Harley Race have been 'escorting' Steve Corino to and from arenas over the past few weeks. Abyss opens the boot/trunk and reveals a bound and gagged Steve Corino, who is unshaved, unwashed and has been physically suffering. Abyss closes the boot/trunk, lets out a maniacal laugh before throwing a lit match into the car which sets it on fire! Abyss is still laughing as he walks away from the burning car, who looks like it is going to be engulfed in flames at any moment. The show quickly cuts to the announce table where for the second straight show Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter express their utter disdain at Abyss' actions. C

CM Punk v Rick Steiner

Another highly entertaining match thanks more to a hot crowd this time rather than hot action. Punk must have been seeing Rick as his brother Scott, as he fought with a high intensity that proved to much for the bearded probably non drug taking Steiner brother, with Punk's win coming in 12:12 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. C+

Ken Shamrock talks about his new found respect for Air Paris' abilities and that he will see him at Lockdown. Crowd are turned off. E+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Bryan Danielson (champion) v Doug Williams

A high quality match and I hope I won't regret my decision to go with the better built Abyss v Sid match as the main event as this more than deserved to end the show. Williams put on his usual technically sound display, but Danielson had an answer for pretty much everything the Brit could throw at him, which let the match looking more one sided than it actually was. Danielson's victory came in 17:44 by submission with an Arms Across America. Bryan Danielson makes defence number 3 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-

Just as Sid is about to enter the arena for the main event, Jeff Jarrett attacks him from behind and throws him into the rear of the stage screen, leaving Sid woozy. C

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Sid Vicious

A good main event but when compared to Danielson v Williams it didn't match up with that. Shame, but that was my decision and I have to live with it. Abyss had all the early going with Sid suffering at Jarrett's sneak attack. Sid did mount a comeback to put himself in a strong position, only for Jeff Jarrett to appear again and distract him when he was about to introduce his big foot to Abyss' face. When Sid turned back round, Abyss met him with The Black Hole, giving him the win in 18:29 by pinfall. C

Abyss and Harley Race celebrate mid ring as Explosion ends. C-

Show rating: C-

Some of the angles didn't match the standard of the matches.

Attendance: 7511

Buy rate: 0.48 (new Explosion record)

Profit: $111,482

Bryan Danielson v Doug Williams was the 9th best match in TNA history.

The show drew the 7th highest buy rate in TNA history.

Impact Preview

Is there no end to the brutality Steve Corino is suffering at the hands of Abyss and Harley Race? With Corino scheduled to meet Abyss in the cage at Lockdown, will Corino even be in a fit state to make it to the cage?

Eric Bischoff is on hand tonight. So are New Dawn, Bryan Danielson, Eric's Army and no doubt an angry America's Most Wanted. There could be big ramifications for (Lethal) Lockdown.

Buff Bagwell returns next week, and rumour has it that husband Roger has an opponent lined up for him both on Impact next week and for Lockdown.

Tune in on Saturday night live on Spike TV.

Unfortunately, this dynasty is going to slow down a bit over the coming months. First, on Saturday I leave for a week's skiing*. Once I'm back, the shop that I manage is having an extension and refit, so I am going to be very busy at work for a good 4 months or so. I will keep this going, but it will be much slower than before.

*My friend and I haven't actually booked yet, we are likely to tomorrow. If it doesn't happen, I have a free week before the work kicks in.

PRE SHOW

Live on Spike TV

A black car drives into the arena. Harley Race steps out of the driver's seat with Abyss exiting on the passenger side. Abyss goes to the boot/trunk of the car and lifts out a hooded and tied Steve Corino. He carries him all the way into the arena and into the ring, with Race by his side. Once in the ring, he holds Corino up in a standing position and takes off his hood. Corino looks a mess - he is unshaved, has a number of bruises and has been bleeding from three cuts, one on each cheek and one on his head. Corino blinks madly and shuts his eyes to keep out the bright arena lights. Abyss then unties his wrists and ankles and lets Corino go. A clearly suffering Corino is not even able to stand and slumps to the mat. Race comments that Corino is pathetic and if this is a man that the fans of TNA look up to then the fans have very low self esteem. Abyss picks Corino back up, and Corino, who has now come to a little, spits in Abyss' face. Abyss goes mad and nails a Black Hole Slam on Corino. He and Race then leave, as medics and TNA officials rush to Corino's aid, who isn't moving in the ring. C

Roger Bagwell is backstage. He says that Buff Bagwell will return next week and he also challenges Monty Brown to face Buff at Lockdown, in a match that should have happened at Destination X. E+

Doug Williams v EZ Money

A disappointing opening match that has been bubbling up for a couple of weeks and was notable only for a surprise winner and interference. The match ended with EZ victorious in 6:04 by pinfall with a Money Clip following interference from Jorge Estrada. D-

Christopher Daniels attacks Mike Sanders backstage, telling Sanders that "I rely on nobody" after Sanders had approached Daniels about working together in the Xscape match at Lockdown. D

Backstage in Eric Bischoff's office, he toasts Shane Douglas and Ernest Miller in winning the NWA TNA Tag Team Championship. He then introduces the X Division champion Jose Maximo and the TNA TV champion Rick Steiner. Together they are his Army and they are an Army of champions. The four champions raise their glasses and shout "For Eric". C

America's Most Wanted (with Midajah) v Double X (with Francine)

A considerably better match than the opener and one where the former champions vented their anger on their opponents. While Double X performed well, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, as AMW were not in the mood to give mercy. Their forceful nature earned them the match in 7:45 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Frankie Kazarian by pinfall with a Death Sentence. D+

Sid is in the ring and starts to talk about his match with Jeff Jarrett at Lockdown when Jarrett himself interrupts. He laughs at Sid's loss to Abyss on Explosion and when Sid goes to hit Jarrett, Jarrett quickly bails and narrowly escapes from the psychotic Sid's clutches. C+

After a commercial break, Eric Bischoff strides out to the ring, beaming from ear to ear as the crowd rains in their boos. Bischoff climbs into the ring and calls out the four protaganists in Lethal Lockdown. Bryan Danielson and Jose Maximo come out first, then

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

CM Punk and AJ Styles come out.

Bischoff tells them two things will now happen. Firstly, the two team captains will announce their remaining two members, then Bischoff himself will announce his twist.

Bryan Danielson goes first, and says that joining he and Jose are Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas, giving youth and desire a good mix with experience, and how can anybody top a team of champions.

AJ is not deterred and tells Eric's Army that he and Punk has full faith in The New Dawn and that the other two members of their team are Evan Karagias and Jimmy Rave. Eric's Army look happy with their choice.

Bischoff takes center stage back and announces that he has a special twist for this year's Lethal Lockdown. Should any member of New Dawn win the match, then he will earn a championship match against the man he defeated. However, when New Dawn lose the match, then whichever member of New Dawn loses the match must leave New Dawn. The crowd are cheering as AJ and Punk look happy with this stipulation while the champions a little concerned. C-

Dusty Rhodes is backstage with Paul London and hypes his charge as a future X Division champion... maybe helped by the fact London is in possession of the Feast or Fired briefcase. C-

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkjMbl6XFRWUAJqssaG5isR9jq-bTbQmiPXsRp5p41WwMrVs3t

TNA TV TITLE

Rick Steiner (champion) v Masato Tanaka

Tanaka gave Steiner a tough test, as he does with anybody with his no nonsense, hard hitting style. Steiner, as with all of Eric's Army at the moment is riding a wave of momentum and no matter what Tanaka could throw at him, Steiner dealt with it and took the bout in 9:46 with a top rope bulldog. Rick Steiner makes defence number 2 of the TNA TV Title. C

Austin Aries, Mike Quackenbush and Mike Sanders are backstage, they say that they feel like they are on the periphery of TNA and due to this common feeling, they are going to look out for each other... and will call themselves The Fringe. E+

America's Most Wanted burst into Eric Bischoff's office, which removes Eric's permagrin that he has had all day. Harris, Storm and Midajah demand that they have a match with Eric's Army next week on Impact so they can claim back their titles. Much to their surprise, Bischoff doesn't hesistate in agreeing, he even adds that once they lose they will be out of the way and he and his Army won't have to worry about them. C-

Air Paris & Christopher Daniels v Jerry Lynn & Ken Shamrock

A good match, and despite Daniels saying earlier he doesn't rely on anybody, he did team up well with Paris. Then again he had to as they were against the ultra consistant Lynn and the ever dangerous Shamrock. The tag match also served as a preview for Lockdown where Lynn and Daniels are in the Xscape match and Paris faces Shamrock. The end came in 13:19 when Ken Shamrock defeated Air Paris by submission with an Ankle Lock for the second time in three weeks. Will he make it three in five at Lockdown? C

Vampiro is backstage and makes fun out of Mr Wrestling IV and his mask, saying everything about him is fake. D+

Harley Race appears with Abyss backstage, and says that they have enjoyed torturing Steve Corino over the past month and at Lockdown they will finish the job and eliminate him. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Bryan Danielson (champion) v Desmond Wolfe

Many expected this to be a fine display of technical and submission wrestling but a lot of people will be left disappointed by a lacklustre main event thanks mainly to an under par performance from Wolfe. His big chance to shine and prove to TNA's bigwigs that he is a guy who can step up soon and he blows it. As a result, Danielson made a comfortable defence in 18:45 by submission with an Arms Across America. Bryan Danielson makes defence number 4 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. D+

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Ultimo Guerrero defeated Pac in 8:24 by pinfall with a Reverse Superplex.D-

Impact

Saturday, week 3, April 2004

Convention Center, Pine Bluff, AR.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQZKfptVMS4p4A_ZYSz2iUQ7qm4JgRE1hHAYbHMn00I3RS0jOne

Live on Spike TV

Eric Bischoff, Ernest Miller and Shane Douglas are in the ring at the start of Impact, with Miller and Douglas proudly wearing the NWA TNA Tag Team Championship belts. The trio boast about Eric's Army being the new champions and that there is not a team in TNA who are good enough to take the belts off them, and that includes the team they beat for the titles, America's Most Wanted. C+

Robert Roode (with Midajah) v Vampiro

Vampiro was much the stronger in a match that suffered due to having little heat from the crowd. He beat Roode, who hasn't seen much action in recent months, quite quickly and comprehensively in 5:55 by pinfall with a Nail in the Coffin. D+

EZ Money has a microphone, and proceeds to taunt Doug Williams, calling him names, gloating about defeating him on Impact last week and generally acting like he is totally unafraid. D-

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell expresses his delight at being back in action tonight against Jerry Lynn and his excitement about getting his hands on some big black muscle tomorrow night at Lockdown. C+

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSkjMbl6XFRWUAJqssaG5isR9jq-bTbQmiPXsRp5p41WwMrVs3t

TNA TV TITLE

Rick Steiner (champion) v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown

A slow paced contest which was not overly exciting as experience met power. Monty was looking good when Buff Bagwell came to ringside, pumping some iron as he came. He climbs onto the apron and this got Monty's attention. Rather than attack, Buff carressed Monty's muscular pectoral area. This distraction allowed Steiner to take full advantage in 8:29 by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog after a distraction from Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell. Rick Steiner makes defence number 3 of his TNA TV title. D+

Aries, Quackenbush and Sanders attack Paul London backstage, and go to town on him. Or should that be city? London is pretty darn big. Either way, Paul London is left writhing on the floor as Dusty Rhodes walks by eating a hamburger before dropping it on the floor when he sees London floored and The Fringe running off. D

Harley Race is in the ring, and he hypes Abyss as the next great monster of wrestling and that he will rule TNA for many years to come. C+

Christopher Daniels v Desmond Wolfe v Mike Sanders (with The Fringe)

A better contest and one which featured generally quick paced and watchable action. It was the usual kind of three way - heels working well initially before squaring off, and a rest period for 'the third man' through most of the match. The end was a little strange however. With other members of The Fringe attacking Christopher Daniels and Robert Brisko trying to deal with them, Ernest Miller came in and attacked Desmond Wolfe. This allowed Sanders to make the most of the chaos in 8:38 when Mike Sanders defeated Desmond Wolfe by pinfall with a 3.0 following interference from Ernest Miller. Miller then told Wolfe he accepts Wolfe's open challenge for Lockdown. C-

Backstage and Jeff Jarrett is walking, flanked by a bevvy of security. He tells them to be on the look out for Sid Vicious in case he tries to attack him. Sure enough, the entourage comes across Sid, and Jarrett taunts him from behind his wall of security. As the security team hold back Sid, Jarrett gets in a cheap shot before escaping. C+

The New Dawn are in the ring, where CM Punk again promotes the benefits of clean living and his desire to clean up TNA. He then focuses on Lockdown, where he gees up Amazing Red and Caprice Coleman for the Xscape match and the rest of New Dawn for Lethal Lockdown, saying that this is a good opportunity to get a title match and they simply cannot afford to lose any men. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Jose Maximo (champion) v Keiji Sakoda

Not the most exciting bout and one that the champion largely dominated, making one of his easier defences in 6:59 by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. Jose Maximo makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Steve Corino is in a secret location. He says he has suffered immensely at the ordeal that Abyss and Harley Race have put him through over recent weeks, and now he is nearly recovered, they will have hell to pay come Lockdown. Corino showed an intensity he has rarely shown in the past. C

Ken Shamrock is in the ring with Air Paris. He tells him face to face that he wants him to bring his best to Lockdown. He says that Paris has the potential to go a long way but he needs to start showing he can do it. Paris says he will. C

A most entertaining match and one that AMW went into with focus and fury. They unleashed an early match barrage on Douglas and Miller that nearly won them back the titles in the opening two minutes. Douglas and Miller hung on though and worked their way into the match using their years of experience and shortcuts. The match then went back and forth until Eric's Army pulled one out of the dirty tricks bag in 11:02 when Shane Douglas defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Eric's Army I make defence number 1 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C+

Mr Wrestling IV talks about his match at Lockdown with Kid Kash, saying how he is looking forward to a tough test of his abilities but it is one he is confident he can pass. C

Bryan Danielson is backstage when Dusty Rhodes approaches him. Rhodes says he has a lot of respect for Danielson as a wrestler, he wrestles in a way that wrestling should be done and he does it excellently. Danielson thanks Rhodes for his kind words and says he is honoured somebody as esteemed as Rhodes says that. Rhodes then tells Danielson he is better than siding with somebody like Bischoff, which is something Danielson begs to differ with. C-

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger Bagwell) v Jerry Lynn

Buff looked like he hasn't missed a beat as he performed well against the ever reliable Lynn and the two put on an entertaining match. Bagwell was good enough to emerge victorious in 12:39 by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. C

WRITER'S NOTE: Sorry, I'm running short on time now. I need to leave in a few minutes time for my friend's house prior to an early flight tomorrow. I might flesh out the main event when I return.

should be a fantastic match. Could see a finish where all 4 members of Eric's Army are actually pinned at the end - giving us 4 major title matches (maybe all at next PPV, or maybe spread out over the next month)

Jeff Jarrett v Sid Vicious ©

think the owner is going to want a win here

Abyss v Steve Corino (C-)

like Corino and think he can do wonders for the ratings, but after the punishment he has absorbed, have to think Abyss will win this one -- maybe Steve-O will have a little surprise for him after the match though

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (D+)

RELAX everyone, Buff returns!! Bagwell has been your superstar (at least to the your loyal readers)

Air Paris v Ken Shamrock (C-)

again while I might like to see Paris score an upset, Shamrock is just too much for him right now.

XSCAPE MATCH

WINNER GETS X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Christopher Daniels v Jerry Lynn v Mike Quackenbush v Mike Sanders v two of CM Punk's New Dawn (D)

Sanders has been quiet of late after having a pretty good splash when he debuted in TNA> X-title shot would be good for him - maybe even joining Eric's Army should Jose lose the title to the man who pins him in the Lethal Lockdown match. daniels and Lynn could stir up a nice little feud out of this match, keeping them hot while allowing one of the others to sneak in a title shot.

America's Most Wanted v Divine Storm (C-)

Go AMW!! all the way

Backstreet Boyz v Full Blooded Italians (D-)

Boyz have been on a slide - nice for them to put over a new team to make its rise and maybe eventual feud with AMW over the tag straps.

Desmond Wolfe v Ernest Miller (C-)

Kid Kash v Mr Wrestling IV (E+)

Name who is the wrestler who is pinned or submits in Lethal Lockdown.

ok - barring my mega everyone is pinned at the end, I'll go with Evan Karagias pinning Jose Maximo (if the 4 way goes down, look for AJ over Danielson, Punk over Steiner, and Rave over Douglas. Sure Rick and Punk are due for a big match anyway over Scottie's drug problems)
