TNA's New Beginnings II

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Chris Hero defeated Prince Nana in 5:38 by pinfall with a Hero's Welcome. C

Impact

Sunday, week 1, August 2005

Broadcast on Monday, week 2, August 2005 on Spike

Bramlage Coliseum, Manhattan, KS.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSXPrObZj0hsFgAXbOBwwROzXLvQqziYlHS1P4XjMD_pRTyk5y6

Arn Anderson, Christian Cage, Dusty Rhodes and CM Punk are in the ring to kick off Impact. Dusty Rhodes challenges the legality of CM Punk's "last chance clause" in his rematch for the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Cage at Victory Road. Anderson and Cage laugh off Rhodes, saying it was clear in the contract and Punk had no hesitation signing the contract, so there is nothing they can do. Punk simply says he "will get the job done". C

Latin American Exchange v Young Bucks

Estrada and more specifically Hernandez simply outpowered the young Buck brothers and took an easy win in 5:25 when Hernandez defeated Matt Buck by pinfall with a Megabomb. C-

Backstage and Rey Mysterio Jr is seen arriving at the arena in a car. He grabs his bag and steps outside, only to be attacked by Maven. Maven ends the assault by slamming Mysterio against the car door, taunts him about ending his short TNA career at Victory Road and then walks off. C

Winner gets an X Division Championship match on Impact next week

Air Paris v Bryan Danielson v Desmond Wolfe v Satoshi Kojima

A good display of technical wrestling with a healthy smattering of aerial action too, especially from Paris. It was seat of your pants stuff as every wrestler vyed for the title shot and it was Danielson who earned it in 11:05 when Bryan Danielson defeated Air Paris by submission with an Arms Across America. C+

Kevin Kelly interviews Ernest Miller and Ken Shamrock backstage. Miller and Shamrock know that Jose Maximo will pick his brother Joel as his partner for their Victory Road match but it will not make any difference as the Invaders will punish New Dawn for not succumbing to the hostile takeover. C

Keeping with the Victory Road theme, The Fringe (Sanders and Money) are confident of defeating Double R at the next pay per view. C+

Dudleys (Tag Team Champions) & Super Crazy (X Division Champion) (with Jimmy Hart) v AK-47 & Caprice Coleman

Champions clash with their Victory Road challengers and it is the trio of champions who will go into the pay per view with all the momentum as in 10:29 when Brother Ray defeated Caprice Coleman by pinfall with a Bubba Bomb. C+

Johnny Kashmere is in the parking lot, about to get into his car to leave for the evening. He gets the fright of his life when Abyss bursts out of the car and destroys both Kashmere and his car with his bare hands. C

Christian Cage (NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion) & John Layfield (with Jimmy Hart) v AJ Styles & CM Punk

A great match with great interest from the crowd, the four put on a superb display until Robert Brisko was forced to throw out the match as a double disqualification in 11:32 when all four men were engaged in a wild, out of control brawl. B

Chris Kanyon is walking backstage when he walks into Goldust. He tears into Goldust for his treatment of 'Big Black Love Muscle' Monty Brown over recent months and Goldust tells Kanyon if he wants to fight for that "big useless queer" then he can do so on Impact next week. C

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

Al Snow (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v 'Wildcat' Chris Harris

Harris showed why he was the NWA TNA Champion for around six months as he was a tough challenge for the champion Snow. The wily Snow dealt with everything Harris threw at him and successfully defended in 17:19 by pinfall with a Snow Plow. Al Snow makes defence number 9 of his WWE title. C+

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the ring action.

Attendance: 4066

Impact preview

The final episode of Impact before Victory Road comes to us this Sunday from Kearney.

All the main protagonists from Victory Road will be on the show with the exception of The Amazing Red. He has still not recovered from an ankle injury but physio reports suggest he will make Victory Road. Have Arn Anderson and Al Snow picked a challenger of convenience?

Will Jose Maximo reveal his tag team partner and if so, will it be Joel Maximo reforming Spanish Announce Team as Shamrock and Miller have said all along.

Bryan Danielson gets his X Division Championship match he earned on last week's Impact while Chris Kanyon meets Goldust in a match agreed last week.

Watch the action on Spike on Monday night.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Vampiro defeated Alex Shelley in 6:30 by pinfall with a Vampiro Spike. C

Broadcast on Monday, week 3, August 2005 on Spike

Christian Cage and CM Punk engage in a personal verbal duel ahead of the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship match at Victory Road next Saturday. Cage goes too far and Punk throws a punch, igniting a brawl between the two until TNA officials and security break it up. B-

Pride of Britain v WWE Invaders (with Jimmy Hart)

It's the first time in some time that the former Tag Team Champions have teamed up but they don't look like they have missed a step and made comfortable work of their British opponents, dispatching them in 7:22 when Jerry Lynn defeated Pac by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. C-

Ernest Miller and Ken Shamrock talk smack backstage about the Maximos and how they will destory them at Victory Road. Joel and Jose Maximo then interrupt their promo in front of a Victory Road logo backstage and tell them that SAT are back and will take down Miller and Shamrock on their return. Crowd pop. C+

Al Snow speaks from a lush WWE theme locker room. He talks about being the greatest WWE Champion ever and how he will continue the run by taking care of The Amazing Red next Saturday. C+

Chris Kanyon v Goldust (with Jimmy Hart)

A match that was booked last week when Kanyon and Goldust had an altercation, the affair was rather physical given the on running feud between Goldust and Kanyon's partner 'Big Black Love Muscle' Monty Brown. Kanyon looked set to win until Jimmy Hart distracted Mickey Jay, which allowed Goldust to utilise his golden dildo, straight up Kanyon's backside! Kanyon suffered a mixture of pain and ecstasy and then promptly lost the match in 10:53 by pinfall to a Bulldog.C+

Harley Race is backstage with Abyss, and says his monster will destory Johnny Kashmere in six days time. C-

Backstage and Dusty Rhodes is shouting at Arn Anderson, telling Anderson he doesn't care about TNA. Anderson tells Rhodes he is right, he only cares about WWE dominance and running TNA into the ground. He tells Dusty to shove it. C

EZ Money v Satoshi Kojima

A decent match where Money gave Kojima a run for his money and got on top of the match. That was until Double R - Rocky Romero and Roderick Strong walked down to ringside. This got Money's attention away from matters at hand and Kojima made the most of it in 9:12 by pinfall with a Lariat. B-

Jeff Jarrett and 'Wildcat' Chris Harris are backing arguing vehemently. Security has to keep them apart before they start brawling. C

A video plays hyping the Super Crazy vs. Caprice Coleman for the X Division Championship and recapping their first match at Hard Justice where Crazy won the title. D

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Super Crazy (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v Bryan Danielson

Perhaps a little disappointing given some people's high expectations of a high quality match, and Crazy perhaps a little surprisingly coped well with Danielson's technical ability. This led to him retaining the title against a former NWA TNA World Champion in 13:27 by pinfall with a Trifecta Moonsault. Super Crazy makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title. C

Following a commercial break, cameras are backstage where Dudleys and AK-47 are involved in a wild brawl in the parking lot. After a few minutes, it ends in much shouting at each other. C

AJ Styles & Rey Mysterio Jr v John Layfield & Maven (with Jimmy Hart)

A tag team main event to nicely wet the taste buds for Victory Road where AJ faces Layfield and Rey faces Maven. Layfield and Maven were a better team with good double teaming, both legal and illegal whereas AJ and Rey were far more exciting and fully had the fans backing. It was AJ and Rey who had their arms raised, much to the disgust of Jimmy Hart and John Layfield when in 19:26 when AJ Styles defeated Maven by pinfall with a Styles Clash. B

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Doug Williams defeated Lance Storm in 10:17 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Lance Storm and Jimmy Hart are an awkward pairing, they just have no chemistry whatsoever. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Super Crazy (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v Caprice Coleman

Victory Road 2005 kicks with a fast and furious X Division Championship match where champion and former champion gave each other everything they had. There were a couple of chants of "This is awesome" from the capacity crowd in the match and the cheers rang loud when Coleman won the belt back for CM Punk's New Dawn and bring the title back home to TNA in 13:07 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman wins the TNA X Division title. C+

Goldust is backstage and is being interviewed by Kevin Kelly. He talks about his recent victory over Chris Kanyon and says he couldn't have done it without his golden dildo 'Gordon'. Kelly looks like he is going to throw up his lunch. Which was not anything made by Gordon Ramsay. Nor is Goldust's golden dildo Gordon named after him. C-

Double R v The Fringe

A closely fought match between two teams on the peripherary of the division and looking to establish themselves among the ranks. Fringe just about got the better of Double R in 8:40 when Mike Sanders defeated Rocky Romero by pinfall with a 3.0. C

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

Al Snow (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v The Amazing Red

How convenient that when Arn Anderson allowed Al Snow to hand pick his challenger, he chose somebody not normally in the upper echelons of the roster. How convenient his challenger would be having his first match back after a significant injury lay off. How surprising it was that Red almost won the match inside thirty seconds when he hit Code Red quickly and Snow squirmed out just before three. The crowd were going nuts for Red as Hart dragged Snow out of the ring for a regroup and refocus. After another flurry of offence from Red, Snow started brutalising him and eventually made the popular Red succumb in 10:05 by pinfall with a Snow Plow. Al Snow makes defence number 10 of his WWE title. C+

A music video is shown highlighting Caprice Coleman having become a two time X Division champion, following in the footsteps of CM Punk and 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels. B-

Ernest Miller & Ken Shamrock (with Jimmy Hart) v Spanish Announce Team

The Maximo brothers are reunited! Joel's departure for WWE and then return with the WWE Invasion and feud with Jose have been put in the past and the brothers were a cohesive unit once more. This was in contrast to Miller and Shamrock, who despite all their efforts and best intentions were not, their timing together was atrocious. This allowed SAT to get a comfortable victory in 11:55 when Jose Maximo defeated Ken Shamrock by pinfall with a Spanish Fly. C

Maven (with Jimmy Hart) v Rey Mysterio Jr

Rey's singles debut in TNA and he was very impressive against the dark Maven, who gave Rey some stiff shots. Mysterio weathered the WWE Invader's storm and had his arms raised in 15:27 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. Hart was seen berating Maven after the match, who has gone off the boil in recent weeks. B-

Al Snow cuts a promo saying beating Amazing Red was easy tonight, that there is no TNA competition for his WWE Championship and he will be the WWE Champion for a long time to come. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Dudleys (champions, with Jimmy Hart) v AK-47

Austin Aries and Kid Kash gave the Dudleys a lot of problems, proving their are bona fide challengers for one of the most decorated tag teams in wrestling history. Of course, being former champions themselves, AK-47 are a top team in their own right. Their lack of size eventually became their downfall as the Dudleys used their power to battle to victory in 15:02 when Brother Ray defeated Austin Aries by pinfall with a 3D. Dudleys make defence number 2 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. B-

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Johnny Kashmere

Abyss has been dominant of late and he continue his recent dominance with a punishing display of power with Kashmere his victim. Abyss' win came in 5:52 by pinfall with The Black Hole. C+

Christian Cage cuts a promo about the main event against CM Punk, saying he will finally establish the WWE Invasion as the sole force in TNA. C+

Jeff Jarrett (with Jimmy Hart) v 'Wildcat' Chris Harris

Former World Champions clash in an entertaining match where Harris was more than a match for his long established opponent and TNA founder Jarrett. The two traded blows and moves and with Harris ready to hit the Catatonic on Jarrett, Jimmy Hart hopped onto the apron and started shouting through his megaphone in the referee's ear. The referee was obviously distracted, which allowed Jarrett to counter with a vicious low blow which set up The Stroke and the win in 17:31 by pinfall. C+

World Championship Number One Contenders Match

AJ Styles v John Layfield (with Jimmy Hart)

The topsy turvy nature of the ongoing battle between TNA stars and WWE Invaders continued as Styles bettered Layfield in a great match. Layfield was arrogant for much of the early going, playing with AJ utilising his larger size and superior power to toy with him. Styles is resilient and has an exciting, varied offence which come the end of the match Layfield couldn't cope with. AJ's win came in 20:37 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. B

As we wait for the match between Christian Cage and CM Punk to commence, Tenay and Potter run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Christian Cage (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v CM Punk

Certainly not the first match between these two in recent weeks but the main event saw some great action, went on for over half an hour and kept the crowd interested throughout. Both Cage and Punk kicked out of their opponent's finishers and then also kicked out after having their finisher stolen. Punk locked on the Anaconda Vice only for Cage to reach the ropes with assistance from Jimmy Hart who pushed them to him. Feeling the effects, Cage echoed Jeff Jarrett earlier on when he hit a low blow on Punk while the referee was having a verbal duel with Jimmy Hart, allowing Cage to hit The Unprettier. This time Punk wasn't able to kick out. Cage retains in 30:47 by pinfall. Christian Cage makes defence number 4 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-

Impact Preview

With No Surrender only two weeks away there is not long before TNA's next pay per view event.

WWE Invaders are firmly in control, holding three of the four titles, TNA's founder on their side and TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes seemingly at a loss on how to overcome them despite having the support of CM Punk's New Dawn and The Fringe. They will need to start making an impact soon or TNA might well get completely overrun.

Who will Harley Race next set his monster Abyss loose on?

Watch the action this Monday night on Spike.

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Steve Corino defeated Ultimo Guerrero in 8:25 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C

Impact

Sunday, week 3, August 2005

Broadcast on Monday, week 4, August 2005 on Spike

Campanelli Stadium, Brockton, MA.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRYVFbpLUnGPBlqIDtzTDrYKV08G43WLDgOcvXAuVQWAhY02AWu

TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes starts Impact in the ring accompanied by CM Punk and AJ Styles. Dusty calls out Arn Anderson, NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion Christian Cage and the WWE Champion Al Snow. The three come down to the ring not looking particularly happy. Rhodes reminds everybody that AJ Styles beat John Layfield two nights ago at Victory Road to earn a World Championship match and he is going to challenge Christian Cage for the title at No Surrender in two weeks. Cage is unhappy, consults Anderson but they know they can’t do anything about it as AJ earned number one contender status… until Arn throws in a curve ball, saying AJ has to beat Satoshi Kojima tonight to remain the number one contender. AJ isn’t happy but Rhodes tells him to go along with it, saying that will only happen if CM Punk challenges Al Snow for the WWE Championship at No Surrender. Anderson and Rhodes stare each other down, Anderson consults Al Snow before saying he has a deal. C+

AK-47 v Divine Storm

The former champions barely put a foot wrong and were rarely troubled by a team who has been on the TNA roster for a long time but has yet to make any impact on the tag team division. AK-47 duly won in 7:14 when Austin Aries defeated Quiet Storm by pinfall with a Brainbuster. C-

Chris Kanyon and Goldust are backstage in a heated row, with Goldust waving about his golden dildo Gordon in Kanyon’s face. The two agree to a final tag team match at No Surrender where the four men will be bound by straps and will feature Gordon as a legal weapon suspended from a pole. Tenay and Potter don’t quite know what to make of it all on commentary. C

The NWA TNA Tag Team Champions, the Dudleys spot EZ Money and Mike Sanders backstage. They attack The Fringe stable mates of AK-47 but Money and Sanders mount a fight back and repel the champions. Bubba Ray tells them to try and do that at No Surrender. C

Middle Eastern Nightmare v Spanish Announce Team

A lacklustre match that failed to show any spark at all. The only point of interest came at the end when Latin American Exchange stormed the ring and attacked the Spanish Announce Team. This led to the disqualification win for the Maximos in 8:18 much to the relief of the fans who had been heading for some natural breaks. D

Down in the basement of the stadium, we see a dark scene. There are faint wails coming from the background before a roar and a scream of pain. The cameraman goes to investigate and finds Abyss torturing a trembling Rey Mysterio Jr who has been tied to a chair. Rey still has his mask on, but Abyss has been whipping his body with a chain. Race bundles the cameraman out and more screams are heard while the cameraman runs to fetch help for Rey. C+

Bryan Danielson v Maven (with Jimmy Hart)

Danielson was off his game in a match that was disappointing as everybody was expecting a good encounter. Danielson’s sub par performance allowed Maven to take full advantage and pick up a big victory against a former NWA TNA World Champion, which came in 11:16 by pinfall with a Crossbody Block. C-

Backstage and Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock and John Layfield attack ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris and leave him motionless on the floor. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Super Crazy (with Jimmy Hart)

Another meeting between these rivals, this being Crazy’s contractual rematch following Coleman regaining the championship from him two nights ago at Victory Road. Coleman carried the momentum forward and finally has vanquished this foe (at least for now?) with a stylish victory in a match far superior than those earlier in the night. Coleman retained in 14:05 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 1 of his TNA X Division title. B-

While Coleman celebrates in the ring, Kevin Kelly appears on the video wall, telling Chris Coleman he has a special guest with him. The Miz walks into shot and challenges Coleman to put up his title against him at No Surrender. Coleman tells Miz he has his shot. C-

Number One Contenders Match

AJ Styles v Satoshi Kojima

A great match which saw some superb mat and aerial action and after around ten minutes had the crowd lapping it up with a couple of “this is awesome” chants. Both men fought hard for the right to face Christian Cage in two weeks time but it was AJ who pulled through, having the extra determination at having to win the number one contendership twice in two nights, defeating Kojima in 19:07 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. The fans stood to applause at the end of the bout as Impact went off air with Styles and Kojima showing each other respect. B

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the ring action.

Attendance: 3855

Loss: $53,705

Impact was the eighth best show in TNA history.

AJ Styles v Satoshi Kojima was the ninth best match in TNA history.

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action and average heat, 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Billy Kidman in 8:23 by pinfall with a 8-Second Ride.

Impact

Broadcast on Monday, week 1, September 2005 on Spike

Impact starts with Christian Cage and AJ Styles having an arena wild brawl. The battle is even until they emerge at ringside where Al Snow appears to help his fellow champion and WWE Invader. The two roll Styles into the ring and start double teaming him. CM Punk rushes the ring to rescue his New Dawn member. The two pairings continue to fight when TNA Directory of Authority Dusty Rhodes appears, followed not far behind by WWE Invaders’ head honcho, Arn Anderson. Rhodes and Anderson get the attention of the men in the ring and agree on a blockbuster main event tonight, where the TNA and WWE champions, Christian Cage and Al Snow will meet AJ Styles and CM Punk. C+

Alex Shelley v Chavo Guerrero Jr

Chavo makes his TNA debut and puts in a good performance against the young and exciting Shelley. Despite the match being of good quality, the crowd didn’t care much for it and Chavo won in front of a quiet crowd in 6:11 by pinfall with a Guerrero Bomb. C-

Abyss and Harley Race are seen again torturing Rey Mysterio Jr, whipping him with a thick length of cable. Abyss eventually unties Rey, who looks weakened and has many whipping marks all over his body. C+

Evan Karagias v Super Crazy (with Jimmy Hart)

The former X Division champion met a stiff test in Evan Karagias but Super Crazy was just about good enough to beat his New Dawn opponent in 8:59 by pinfall with a Trifecta Moonsault. C-

Jeff Jarrett, John Layfield and Ken Shramock are backstage, mocking their No Surrender opponents, AK-47 and ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris. Evidently their opponents were in ear shot, as the TNA trio rushed into shot and tore into the three WWE Invaders. A brawl ensued which destroyed the backstage interview set and over a dozen security guards and backstage officials were needed to wade in and break up the fight. C-

Maven (with Jimmy Hart) v The Amazing Red

An entertaining and good quality match between a young star and one of wrestling’s most exciting performers. The match was even but it was Jimmy Hart’s distractions from ringside that gained his charge the duke in 12:16 by pinfall with a Crossbody Block. C+

Kevin Kelly speaks backstage in a patched up interview area with The Miz. Miz says how he will take down Caprice Coleman and No Surrender and become the X Division champion. Why? Because he is simply awesome. C-

Dudleys (Tag Team Champions), D’Lo Brown & Goldust (with Jimmy Hart) v ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown, Chris Kanyon & The Fringe

A chaotic match which saw lots of brawling in and around the ring as Jack Doan struggled to keep any control of the match. When chaos subsided it was the WWE Invaders who had their arms raised in 13:31 when Brother Ray defeated EZ Money by pinfall with a Bubba Bomb. C

Backstage and TNA Director of Authority warns Bryan Danielson and Satoshi Kojima that if they don’t start prioritising their efforts on TNA, they will be lost in the mix and drift down the pecking order. Danielson and Kojima accept what Rhodes says. C

Al Snow (WWE Champion) & Christian Cage (NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion) (with Jimmy Hart) v AJ Styles & CM Punk

A tense match between the main protagonists at No Surrender. The bout featured lots of wrestling with both teams sharing control until it went the way of the eight man tag earlier on when it descended into a wild brawl. Robert Brisko lost all control and called for the bell in 18:06 for a double disqualification, much to the vocal displease of the three and a half thousand fans in attendance. B-

Show rating: C

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

A number of angles did not reach the standard of the matches.

The Amazing Red was slightly overused.

Attendance: 3495
