PRE SHOW

AK-47 v Latin American Exchange

An opening match that oozed in quality and all four men performed above themselves and set a high standard for the rest of the match. It was a shame there had to be a losing team, which turned out to be LAX in 9:05 when Austin Aries defeated Hernandez by pinfall with a 450° splash. B-

Doug Williams v Lance Storm (with Jimmy Hart)

A good quality match loaded with some decent technical action, and the crowd was behind the Brit. Unfortunately the crowd were left disappointed as Williams came up short in 10:49 by submission with a Straightshooter. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Dudleys (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v Spanish Announce Team

Another high quality match, this time between two teams of brothers and for the tag titles. Jose was still looking depressed through the match but despite this, SAT performed far, far better than they had in previous weeks and after a couple of matches where they were on the receiving end of an upset, they almost dished one out to take the titles. Dudleys scraped through though in 12:04 when Brother Devon defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a 3D. Dudleys make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. Following the match, Jose again looked depressed and walked away from his brother who had been trying to console him in the ring. B-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Air Paris

The high standard continues in a very exciting match contested at a hundred miles an hour and didn’t really suffer from a lack of psychology on show. First X Division champion Air Paris was close to winning the title back for the first time since he was the inaugural champion, but just came up short as Coleman was able to retain in 14:10 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. B-

TNA v WWE 10 MAN BATTLE ROYAL

TNA (AJ Styles, ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown, Little Guido, Rey Mysterio Jr & ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

WWE (Al Snow, Goldust, Jeff Jarrett, John Layfield, Ken Shamrock)

Even a team based battle royal did not let the high standard of the night slip. A bizarre start saw Goldust wave the poo stained Gordon the golden dildo in Monty Brown’s face, only for Brown to lick it up and down before punching Goldust square on the jaw. The first elimination was Layfield throwing out Guido. It was a little while before a few eliminations happened quickly, where Monty Brown, Chris Harris, Goldust, John Layfield and Ken Shamrock went out, leaving Styles, Mysterio, Snow and Jarrett. The two on two battle royal saw Styles eliminate Snow and Jarrett eliminate Mysterio. AJ then squared off against Jarrett in a preview of Bound for Glory IV and won the battle royal when he eliminated him in 12:47. B-

Prior to his title defence, CM Punk speaks about how he will beat Maven tonight and then unify the titles at Bound for Glory IV, and keep TNA with it’s rightful owners, the Carter family. B-

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Maven (with Jimmy Hart)

Punk duly retained in a fairly dominant display against Maven, who will challenge Punk’s New Dawn stablemate Caprice Coleman for the X Division Champion Bound for Glory IV. Maven got some offence in but Punk made a comfortable first defence of a belt he doesn’t particularly represent in 14:28 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 1 of his WWE title. C+

Like CM Punk before him, Christian Cage promises he will unify the titles at Bound for Glory IV, only that he will do it for a real wrestling company in WWE and “the great Vince McMahon” which draws huge heat from the crowd. C+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Christian Cage (champion, with Jimmy Hart) v Satoshi Kojima[/b]

Cage found his title defence against the tough Japanese competitor Kojima far more difficult than Punk found his earlier. Cage’s title was in serious jeopardy a number of times and if it weren’t for Cage bailing or Hart interfering, Kojima may well have become champion, which would have changed Bound for Glory IV significantly. In the end, Cage clung on to his title, barely, in 19:17 by pinfall with an Unprettier. Christian Cage makes defence number 6 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. A great show. B-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the matches.

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but non-existent crowd heat, Shawn Daivari defeated Alex Shelley in 6:01 by pinfall with a Death Valley Driver. C-

Impact

Sunday, week 3, September 2005

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 4, September 2005

Beeghly Center, Youngstown, OH.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTpA98l8OCrqm5u7mT0A4sQRzA1kbmNCBJDKdWJJaw-IrrBKj0LMA

AJ Styles started Impact by cutting a promo about how much TNA means to him. He talks about how TNA and in particular Jeff Jarrett gave him his chance in the big time and how grateful he is for being able to take that chance and making the most of it. He goes on to say that TNA has grown into something very credible from nothing in just over four years. It’s for those reasons that Jeff Jarrett makes him sick, abandoning those he gave a chance to and his own company.

Jeff Jarrett interrupts, telling AJ Styles he has no idea how the wrestling industry works. Jarrett kisses Vince McMahon’s ass, calling him the Don of wrestling and the reason the industry is as big as it is. He even says if it weren’t for Vince McMahon, TNA wouldn’t even exist and ungrateful punks like AJ Styles wouldn’t have jobs. Styles rushes up the ramp at Jarrett, who escapes through the curtain. Mike Quackenbush (USA II) v Tiger Ali Singh (Iran)

A hugely patriotic crowd got fully behind Quackenbush and put Singh right off his game, which resulted in a comfortable match for Quackenbush and USA II taking a 1-0 lead in the best of three quarter finals. Quack’s win came in 6:49 by pinfall with a Quackendriver. D+

Kevin Kelly is happy to be interviewing John Layfield backstage. He sucks up to the big man, who goes on a tirade about how piss poor TNA is, how Vince McMahon is the Don of wrestling and how he will easily rip apart Little Guido at Bound for Glory IV as WWE complete their takeover of TNA. B-

Harley Race is backstage with his imposing monster Abyss. Race says he doesn’t care about the whole TNA WWE war as his monster Abyss will destroy everybody in his path, with Paul London his next victim at Bound for Glory IV. B

Desmond Wolfe v D’Lo Brown (with Jimmy Hart)

A disappointing match where D’Lo got the better of a tired looking Wolfe, who hasn’t seen a lot of TNA action of late. Brown’s win came in 8:15 by pinfall with a Low Down. Less said about the match the better, even Quack v Singh was better. D

The Amazing Red is walking backstage when he comes across the Tag Team Champions, the Dudleys. Both Dudleys tower over Red, and mock him for his lack of height. Red tries to ignore them, but the Dudleys see this as a sign of disrespect and beat him down. C+

The Fringe v Ken Shamrock & The Miz (with Jimmy Hart)

A solid match which saw some slick tag team work between Sanders and Money while Miz and Shamrock took a little bit of time to develop and understanding, with it being their first match together. Even so, they were about to prevail as Shamrock’s combination of brute force and experience helped the WWE Invaders to take the contest in 11:22 when Ken Shamrock defeated Mike Sanders by submission with an Ankle Lock. C

Backstage, Al Snow and ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown have a confrontation. Brown laughs at Snow for losing the WWE Championship to a wrestler who has never set foot in a WWE ring. Snow is angry and calls Brown a “sick homo”. The two start brawling before security come to break them up. C

Jerry Lynn (with Jimmy Hart) v Satoshi Kojima

A great match with some excellent wrestling between two outstanding gladiators of the mat. Lynn was just about getting the better of his Japanese opponent when Rey Mysterio Jr came running to the ring. A loud cheer from the crowd was heard as Rey attacked Jimmy Hart and laid him out. This distraction Lynn, who started shouting at Mysterio and this distraction was enough for Kojima to capitalise and defeat Lynn in 14:09 by pinfall with a Lariat. B

Backstage and Goldust cuts a bizarre promo on ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris, complimenting him on his long, flowing hair and his tight package in his pants. He asks Harris if he would like to find a use for his brown stained Gordon the golden dildo. Harris rushes the interview set and says yes, knocking you out with it. The ensuing scuffle is broken up by security. C+

Christian Cage (NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion) & Maven (with a groggy Jimmy Hart) v CM Punk (WWE Champion) & Caprice Coleman (X Division Champion)

A high class main event which saw a competitively fought and high quality tag team match, in front of a hot crowd who were firmly behind the TNA stalwarts, although there were isolated “Vince is the Don” chants from a small section of the crowd. All four men put in a great effort and looked fantastic in the ring. In the end Caprice Coleman pulled off a shock when he defeated the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion in 18:45 by pinfall, overcoming Cage with a Thermal Shock. The crowd go nuts. B

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the ring action.

John Layfield starts Impact by calling Vince McMahon the Don of wrestling. He says that Vince McMahon is doing TNA a favour by taking them over before they go out of business. He talks up WWE and disses TNA. He then targets Little Guido, calling him a little man and a coward.

This prompts Guido to rush the ring. He stands up to Layfield, calling him a bully and yellow. Layfield begs Guido to hit him, but Guido remains the better man and says he will do his fighting at Bound for Glory IV and help TNA remain it’s own entity. Guido then turns his back on Layfield. Big mistake, Layfield attacks from behind and nails a Clothesline from Hell. C

Brits Abroad v Quite Storm & Vampiro

A mediocre opening contest which saw the long established team of Brits Abroad comfortably get the better of their Canadian opponents who were teaming up for the first time. The Brits levelled the quarter final in in 7:29 when Desmond Wolfe defeated Vampiro by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. D+

United Kingdom 1 Canada 1

Harley Race spoke backstage, with Abyss standing imposingly over him in the background, a little like how Race used to do with Vader in WCW. Race tells about Paul London is Abyss’ next victim on his path of destruction and he will suffer his fate at Bound for Glory IV. C+

Kevin Kelly conducts a backstage interview with Rey Mysterio Jr about his Bound for Glory IV match against WWE Invader Jerry Lynn. Rey says he will beat Lynn and prove he belongs in TNA while Kelly is condescending to Mysterio throughout the interview, and even concludes by saying he hopes Rey loses. C+

Bryan Danielson v ‘Cowboy’ James Storm

A match good in quality and with an interested crowd, Danielson’s technical ability over came Storm’s brawling and the match was well received in the arena. Danielson’s spoils came in 9:18 by submission with an Arms Across America. C+

Arn Anderson is with Ken Shamrock and The Miz. He tells them to focus all their efforts in the coming weeks on defeating AK-47 at Bound for Glory IV as they don’t want to know what will happen to them if they don’t. C-

Christian Cage was backstage with CM Punk, both already been kept apart by security before we even saw what, if anything, happened before hand. Cage mocks Punk for not being big time and like John Layfield at the start of Impact, refers to Vince McMahon as the Don of wrestling. B-

D’Lo Brown & Ernest Miller (with Jimmy Hart) v Happy Bummers

Miller underperformed in a match that lacked excitement. Unusually for a Happy Bummers match, there were no gay references in the match at all, perhaps made even more unusual considering D’Lo Brown threw up at the No Surrender pay per view. The win went to Jimmy Hart’s men in 9:59 when D'Lo Brown defeated Chris Kanyon by pinfall with a Low Down. C-

Backstage and the Dudleys come across Joel Maximo. Dudleys mock Maximo, his departed brother Jose and also his cousin The Amazing Red who they beat down last week. Joel stands up for himself, but is dropped down by a Dudleys attack. C+

Goldust cuts another bizarre promo on ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris, saying Gordon will go wild on the Harris cat and Goldust will enjoy it. C

Satoshi Kojima v The Miz (with Jimmy Hart)

A decent match where The Miz put up a very good account of himself, holding his own with the better pure wrestler, Kojima. Indeed, Miz had as many near falls as Kojima did. The difference came when Austin Aries and Kid Kash appeared at ringside. AK-47 distracted Miz from the task at hand, going against what Arn Anderson told him earlier by saying to focus on beating them at Bound for Glory IV. The AK-47 distraction allowed Kojima to take the laurels in 11:51 by pinfall with a Lariat. C+

Al Snow speaks out on ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown and displays great confidence he will beat him at Bound for Glory IV both “for the benefit of wrestling and to please the Don”. C+

Caprice Coleman (X Division Champion) & AJ Styles v Jeff Jarrett & Maven

A highly entertaining match up featuring three exciting young wrestlers and, erm, Jeff Jarrett. Oh well, can’t have everything. In it, the action was often fast and Jarrett occasionally added the furious, so he was good for something. For the second straight week, Caprice Coleman pulled off a huge victory in 18:34 when he defeated Jeff Jarrett by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Cage last week, Jarrett this. Coleman is really on a huge roll. B-

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the ring action.

Attendance: 3731
