PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Brits Abroad defeated Middle Eastern Nightmare in 6:24 when Chris Hero defeated Shawn Daivari by pinfall with a Hero's Welcome. Abbadon has switched to an Against The World gimmick which has received an initial A rating. C

EXPLOSION

Wednesday, week 1, January 2006

Live on UrbanXtra and Request TV pay per view

Lawlor Events Center, Reno, NV.

EZ Money v Vampiro

These two have been building up a rivalry over recent weeks and this helped to boost both the near capacity crowd’s interest in the match and the quality of the match overall. Vampiro won the first meeting between the two on the last Explosion show and he followed it up with a repeat win in 11:03 by pinfall with a Nail in the Coffin. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

AK-47 (champions) v Double R

A disappointing contest especially after the opening set such a good standard. In the match, the champions had much more of the match than their challengers and their better showing transferred into victory in 8:37 when Austin Aries defeated Roderick Strong by pinfall with a Brainbuster. AK-47 make defence number 3 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. Rocky Romero’s character looks like it needs a change. D+

Backstage and Kevin Kelly is interviewing ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris. Harris talks about both his surprise and anger at Brock Lesnar. His surprise that Eric Bischoff led him to the ring on Impact on Monday night and his anger that Lesnar’s involvement cost him the chance to face Brother Ray for the Heavyweight Championship at Genesis. Harris continues by saying that at Genesis, he will get his revenge on Lesnar. C+

Chavo Guerrero Jr v The Amazing Red

A huge improvement in the ring despite the contest drifting on occasion, this bout showcased how unique and valuable TNA’s X Division is, with fast paced, exciting action and great talent with depth to it’s division. These two will face off at Genesis in a tag team match with their respective partners and here it was Guerrero who overcame Red in 14:49 by pinfall with a Gory Bomb. B-

John Layfield is backstage with Goldust and Brother Devon. Layfield gets Ken Shamrock to join the group. He tells them he has had an idea, there are a few people that the group has some issues with and he suggests an eight man tag team match at Genesis. The others, not otherwise engaged for Genesis, decide to go for it. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v D’Lo Brown

Coleman’s least impressive defence to date and a disappointing showing from both competitors, and puts Chavo back into the title mix given his impressive victory earlier on. D’Lo was no better than Coleman and the champion managed to defend though for once didn’t look the star he is becoming, the end coming in 15:15 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 10 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Backstage and Christian Cage is again mocking Rey Mysterio Jr. Cage still has a Mysterio mask, but instead of wearing it, this time he wipes his ass with it. Mysterio sees this and the two come to blows, only to be separated by TNA Director of Authority, Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes says he has seen and heard enough and wants to up the stakes. He makes their match at Genesis a number one contenders match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship under Full Metal Mayhem rules. A roar is heard from the arena. C+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v Evan Karagias & Little Guido

Lesnar was hugely impressive as he dominated his two opponents on his TNA in ring debut. He out powered both opponents and sometimes both at the same time. A very impressive finish by Lesnar in 6:08 when he hit the F5 on not only Karagias but Guido too… at the same time, before defeating Evan Karagias by pinfall. The crowd were mixed, some cheering his impressive start in TNA, some jeering how he has made his impact. B-

Jamie Noble v Paul London

The crowd, still buzzing from Lesnar’s exploits were treated to an excellent match between two more of the X Division. Noble and London wrestled an X Division classic and in the end, Noble followed Lesnar’s lead by continuing his very impressive start to life in TNA by taking out London in 15:01 by submission with a Guillotine Choke. B

Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell is backstage and expresses his delight at earning a shot at Brother Ray’s TNA Heavyweight Championship at Genesis. He vows to win the title for him, for ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown, for Chris Kanyon and for all the homosexuals around the world. C

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

EXTREME RULES

Brother Ray (champion) v Steve Corino

A brutal and bloody match where both men were not afraid to both wrestle and batter each other with various weapons and props found at ringside, in a classic ECW style. Corino got the better of Ray and had a table covered in barbed wire set up in the ring, ready to slam Ray through it, only to get blindsided by Abyss, who instead chokes slammed Corino through the same table. A win for Ray was academic, but he finished it off anyway in 25:15 by pinfall with a Bubba Bomb. Brother Ray makes defence number 1 of his TNA Heavyweight title. A great way to end a very good night. B

Show rating: B-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the matches.

Attendance: 9323

Buy rate: 0.87

Profit: $228,977

Explosion was the fourth best show in TNA history.

Jamie Noble v Paul London was the ninth best match in TNA history.

Brother Ray v Steve Corino was the tenth best match in TNA history.

Explosion drew the ninth biggest buy rate in TNA history.

USA I (Happy Bummers) v Mexico (Latin American Exchange)

Somewhat of an improvement on recent Nations Cup matches, and a reasonable start to tonight’s action. The Mexicans just about edged the Americans to take a 2-1 lead in the five match series in 8:26 when Jorge Estrada defeated Chris Kanyon by pinfall with a Greetings from Graceland. C-

TV TITLE

Doug Williams (champion) v Roderick Strong

A match perhaps better than some expected, some of the action was outstanding and as a result the crowd got more and more into the contest. Strong put in a very strong challenge and surprised Williams with how tough he proved to be to beat, but Williams did manage to defend his title in 7:13 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Doug Williams makes defence number 3 of his TNA TV title. C

Brother Ray had an interview hyping his Genesis championship defence against Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell. Ray says he will bully Buff, as that is what happened to queers when he was In school. C+

Los Guerreros are going at it with New Announce Team backstage. TNA officials have to wade in to prevent it escalating into a wild brawl. C-

Abyss (with Harley Race), Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) & Ken Shamrock v Chris Hero, Steve Corino & ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

Hero, Corino and Harris fought hard but were over powered by one of the most menacing trios ever put together, featuring three bona fide hard men. The inevitable happened in 9:21 when Brock Lesnar defeated Steve Corino by pinfall with a F5 and his team mates Hero and Harris also looked worse for wear following the match. C

John Layfield cuts an interview about the eight man tag team match at Genesis, saying his team are far superior than their inferior opponents. C

A music video is shown to highlight the Tag Team Championship reign of AK-47. B-

Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell v Lance Storm

In a bout that featured the challengers for the Heavyweight and X Division Championships at Genesis, Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell defeated Lance Storm in 14:03 by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. Brother Ray was on commentary for the match. Both men looked excellent in a tremendous match and look serious threats to the championships of Brother Ray and Caprice Coleman. B

Jamie Noble speaks, saying he is very happy that he has made the tremendous start that he expected to make, and that he says it is only a matter of time before he gets his hands on the X Division Championship. C+

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell is shown backstage, where officials have found him bloody and battered, the victim of a sneak attack. He is stunned but conscious, but doesn't know who attacked him and neither do we as the cameras didn’t pick anything up. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Christian Cage

A great match and one of TNA’s best main events to date. Coleman and Cage wrestled superbly and put on a highly entertaining match, both men scoring a number of near falls. The match was finely poised when Rey Mysterio Jr made his way to ringside. He stood on the apron and distracted Christian Cage. Cage tried to get Mysterio, who simply dropped off the apron and this distraction allowed Coleman to take a great match in 19:30 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 11 of his TNA X Division title. B

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Billy Kidman defeated Quiet Storm in 6:14 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press. C+

Impact

Sunday, week 2, January 2006

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 3, January 2006

Lahaina Civic Center, Lahaina, HI.

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSo9z7ATnPH7okKLz_iPQLgtaNaF1mxsYVIxVJIkWJulEVvCeDd

Impact opens with a special opening, where an aerial view of Hawaii is seen, to mark TNA’s first ever visit to the island. The view zooms down to the arena, and in through a door at the rear of the arena. Through this door and down a corridor, the opening comes across Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell, lying face down on the concrete, attacked for the second week running by someone unknown. This time, there is also a pool of blood at his head. Potter and Mike Tenay speculate who might have done this, and even if Bagwell will be able to challenge Brother Ray for the Heavyweight Championship in only five days time. Brother Ray is being speculated about being the attacker and speaking of the devil, Ray is first on the scene, checks on the unconscious Buff before calling for help. After around half a minute, paramedics rush to the scene as the show fades to a commercial for a well known brand of headache tablets. B-

Brits Abroad v Los Guerreros

A very good and entertaining opening tag team contest between a long standing team and a new addition to the tag team division. Both teams showed strong teamwork and it were the Guerreros who edged the match in 7:10 when Ultimo Guerrero defeated Chris Hero by pinfall with a Reverse Superplex. B-

We go back backstage where we see Vampiro taunting EZ Money, saying he can’t beat him. Money slaps Vampiro and TNA officials and security wade in to prevent further skirmishes. D

In the backstage interview area, John Layfield is with Ken Shamrock and Goldust, with his golden dildo Gordon who he lovingly strokes. The trio are very confident of winning their eight man tag team match at Genesis where they team with Brother Devon against Brits Abroad, Doug Williams and The Truth. C-

Brother Devon v The Truth

A preview of the said eight man tag team match at the upcoming pay per view, this bout lacked excitement and the action was only average. Truth pulled out the victory over the former Tag Team Champion in 8:35 by pinfall with a Truth Or Consequences. C-

Harley Race is backstage with Abyss and Race promises that Abyss is going to destroy Steve Corino at Genesis. Race also holds the Tag Team Championship Feast or Fired briefcase, saying Abyss is going to cash it in when he is good and ready. C

Dusty Rhodes hosts a contract signing in the ring, which as well as having two chairs and a table, also has a ladder in it. Dusty introduces Rey Mysterio Jr and Christian Cage and agrees to their Full Metal Mayhem match at Genesis where the winner becomes the number one contender for the TNA Heavyweight Championship. The contract signing goes smoothly, but afterwards, Christian Cage attacked Rey Mysterio Jr from behind, before getting on the table and putting him through it with the Killswitch. C+

’Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown v Hernandez

A match with a high emphasis on both wrestlers’ power game, and a contest that in all truth was a little tedious, a little like two cumbersome heavyweight boxers slugging it out. It was win or bust for the American team as a win for Mexico would mean they would win the series, but the Americans won to take the final series to the rubber match, the finish coming in 9:38 by pinfall with The Pounce. D+

USA I 2 MEXICO 2

Kevin Kelly is backstage, speaking to the Tag Team Champions, AK-47. Kid Kash trash talks Latin American Exchange, who they will face at Genesis, while Austin Aries is supremely confident they will keep the titles. C

Jamie Noble's promo was interrupted by Shoichi Funaki, and the two engaged in a war of words ahead of their Genesis meeting. C-

Al Snow v Chris Kanyon

Another preview of a tag team contest at Genesis, this one was a solid enough match which got the crowd back onside. Snow used Head, literally, to gain the upper hand as he used his mannequin head as a distraction to Kanyon, who does seem to get distraction fairly easily, usually by men. Head helped Snow to gain the advantage which led to victory in 12:07 by pinfall with a Snow Plow. C

Eric Bischoff speaks from backstage, reiterating that Brock Lesnar is going to walk over the entire TNA roster, starting with ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris this coming Saturday at Genesis. C+

TV TITLE

Doug Williams (champion) v Jeff Jarrett

A reasonable main event that saw Jeff Jarrett compete for the first time in TNA for a little while. He did show occasional signs of ring rust, and against a man like Doug Williams, who makes very few mistakes, is asking for trouble. Even so, Jarrett would be considered favourite for this match, so it was a little surprise when the champion successfully defended in 17:19 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Doug Williams makes defence number 4 of his TNA TV title. C
