PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Vampiro defeated Chris Hero in 6:48 by pinfall with a Nail in the Coffin. C-

Impact

Sunday, week 3, February 2006

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 4, February 2006

Chiles Center, Portland, OR.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQH_sWselhdIXOJgmOV064mkYbJHXeToBRnHj3npg4aD9mUt_jA

In the ring to start Impact, the TNA Heavyweight Champion Brother Ray is having a heated exchange with TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes. Ray says it is stupid that he might have to face Caprice Coleman at Destination X as Coleman is the X Division Champion and he should stay in the X Division. Rhodes says that Coleman has been the best TNA X Division Champion to date and if Coleman wants to give that up to have a shot at the Heavyweight Championship that he deserves, then he will get it. C+

Los Guerreros v Young Bucks

A match that the Guerreros dominated virtually from bell to bell. Their dominance turned into the expected win in 6:30 when Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Nick Buck by pinfall with a Gory Bomb. D+

Mike Sanders is shown backstage, where officials have just found him bloody and battered, the apparent victim of a sneak attack. He is stunned but conscious, but doesn't know who attacked him. C-

Al Snow is interviewed backstage by Kevin Kelly, where he says he will be far better off without carrying the baggage known as Maven. C

Austin Aries (Tag Team Champion) v Maven

It is unclear whether Maven heard the words of Al Snow, but he was anything but baggage as he put in an impressive display against one half of the Tag Team Champions. Even with his impressive performance, he still won courtesy of interference by The Miz, with this coming in 10:22 by pinfall with a Crossbody Block. C

Christian Cage is walking backstage, turns a corner, and bumps into The Truth. Truth says Little Jimmy said that Christian Cage is a nasty man, and they start arguing. After some heated words, Truth challenges Christian to meet him at Destination X. Cage accepts. C

Mick Foley is in the ring and gets a cheap pop by saying he is delighted to be in Portland, Oregon. Foley calls out Abyss, who comes out with Harley Race. Foley tells Abyss he is not scared of him, and challenges him to a match at Lockdown. Race accepts on behalf of Abyss and then leads his monster away. B-

TNA TV TITLE

‘Cowboy’ James Storm (champion) v ‘Big Black Love Muscle’ Monty Brown

A physical match of a decent standard, Storm and Brown went toe to toe with nothing given. Hot on brawling and cooler on wrestling than most TNA matches, it did not suffer for it. Storm got the better of his opponent in 10:42 by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. 'Cowboy' James Storm makes defence number 4 of his TNA TV title. C

A video plays hyping Brother Ray vs. Steve Corino on Explosion in nine days time. C+

Doug Williams is backstage and accepts Jamie Noble’s challenge for a match at Destination X. C

Christian Cage v Ken Shamrock

A solid match but nothing special, Cage and Shamrock put on some impressive technical wrestling. In the end, Cage managed to dispatch another former World Champion, and indeed one of only two two time World Champions. Cage’s win arrived in 13:51 by pinfall with an Unprettier. C

Goldust is ‘entertaining’ some children at a kids club. It is a very strange environment as Goldust is talking about Gordon, his golden dildo. The children, aged between six and nine look on wide eyed as Goldust eyes up his best friend. C

John Layfield cuts a promo backstage, saying he wants nothing further to do with Ken Shamrock as he is a maniac. D+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v Rey Mysterio Jr

Some great action in an exciting match with a crowd that was firmly behind Mysterio. It was classic power versus speed with power more often having the advantage and speed sometimes prevailing. In the end, Lesnar gave Mysterio more than he could take, and took the main event in 16:44 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. B-

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

A number of angles did not reach the standard of the matches.

Loss: $46,761

Dusty Rhodes is in his office as the TNA Director of Authority. He is talking to somebody, not yet seen, across his desk and he says he wants his new signings to prove themselves in a tag team match tonight. The camera pans round to reveal…

Cameras are in a corridor backstage where we see the TNA Heavyweight Champion, Brother Ray, laying a beat down to the X Division Champion, Caprice Coleman. At the end of the beating, Ray tells Coleman not to dare to take the title shot at him at Destination X. B

Jerry Lynn v Paul London

A very good opening contest with some spells of great action. The wily veteran Lynn used his nous to overcome the quicker London in 9:07 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. Both men looked impressive here. C+

Backstage and Mick Foley is cutting a promo on Abyss, but not after saying how glad he is to be in Troy, Alabama. Foley is in mid flow, saying he is the true hardcore legend, when Abyss shows up. Unlike previously when Abyss has done nothing, this time he assaults Foley, finishing him off by power bombing Foley on the concrete. Foley doesn’t move as paramedics rush to the scene and Harley Race leads Abyss away. The show the goes to a commercial for Castle Cement. B-

Backstage and Chavo Guerrero Jr is in his locker room. There is a knock on the door and Chavo invites the person in. In walks…

Chavo is gobsmacked as his cousin walks in and the two hug. Eddie doesn’t speak. C

TNA TV TITLE

‘Cowboy’ James Storm (champion) v Joel Maximo

Another match that featured some great action with Maximo doing well in his efforts in limited Storm’s preferred brawling style. Storm has been impressive of late though and had too much quality for Maximo, closing the contest in 10:03 by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. 'Cowboy' James Storm makes defence number 5 of his TNA TV title. C

Cameras are backstage again and pick up Ken Shamrock being attacked by Al Snow, Goldust and John Layfield. Shamrock doesn’t stand a chance one on three and is left lying in pain. C-

TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes is seen in his office again and he has three X Division wrestlers in his office who want answers. Air Paris, Jorge Estrada and Mike Sanders want to know what will happen to the X Division Championship if Caprice Coleman gives it up for a TNA Heavyweight Championship match. Rhodes tells them he has some ideas but he hasn’t decided yet. C

Kid Kash (Tag Team Champion) v The Miz

A mirror of the match between Austin Aries and Maven last week where one half of the Tag Team Champions lost courtesy of interference from the ally of an opponent. This week, Maven returned the favour to The Miz for his assistance last week and The Miz was the winner in 10:14 by pinfall with a Mizard of Oz. C+

Kevin Kelly is talking to Jamie Noble backstage, who conducts a rather generic promo regarding his Destination X match against Doug Williams. C

Steve Corino is also backstage, in his locker room. He warns Brother Ray not to forget him, as in two days time, Corino gets a shot at Brother Ray on Explosion. Ray barges in and tells Corino he hasn’t forgotten, and throws Corino into the lockers. C+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

A hugely disappointing match where the two lacked fluidity together and looked awkward. Lesnar beat Harris in a forgettable match in 12:22 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. D+

We’re backstage again where there is a three way argument going on between Christian Cage, The Truth and Little Jimmy, or more accurately, The Truth is angry at Christian Cage poking fun at The Truth for having an imaginary eight year old as a friend. Truth is offended and tells Cage “he gonna get got”. Cage tells him to speak English, so Truth slaps him across the face and leaves with Little Jimmy. B-

Rey Mysterio Jr is relaxing with a coffee backstage. His facial expression changes and gets a big smile on it when into view appears Eddie Guerrero. Rey says he is delighted to see Eddie and asks him how he is. Guerrero responds by grabbing Mysterio’s coffee and throwing it in his face, leaving Rey clutching his face in agony. Eddie doesn’t speak and walks off. C

Chuck & Kishi v Albert Bloom & Test Martin (T N A)

A good main event but nothing more, and will the four have impressed the TNA Director of Authority? The match was back and forth and it was the more experienced pairing who emerged triumphant in 15:13 when Albert Bloom defeated Chuck Palumbo by pinfall with a Train Wreck. C

Show rating: C

The show might have hurt TNA’s overall popularity.

Attendance: 3831

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQIVrgW884OXoSdNqYfD9HDB2JB28vfQU4TxnCG10F50F6Kg17QEw

Double R v T N A

A solid opening match up which saw one of TNA’s two newest teams, TNA, largely man handle their much smaller and in TNA terms more established opponents. Albert & Test’s significant size advantage was very much the difference maker and the outcome which came in 6:42 was in little doubt. Test Martin defeated Roderick Strong by pinfall with a Big Boot. C

At the arena entrance, The Truth is talking to Little Jimmy, simply making small talk. A figure dressed entirely in black with shades and a black hat approaches Truth and tells him he has something he has to tell him and asks if Truth can come with him. Truth appears concerned and complies with the man, who leads him through the entrance and down a corridor. When turning a corner, the man attacks Truth, laying him out with a knuckle duster he had got out from his pocket. The man takes off his shades and hat… and it’s Christian Cage, who lets out a sinister laugh and tells Truth what he needs to be told is that he should not bother to show up at Destination X. C

NWA TNA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

AK-47 (champions) v Latin American Exchange

Another good tag team match where it ebbed and flowed between champions and challengers, with AK-47 struggling at times to contain Hernandez’s power. A nasty incident occurred after around eight minutes where Jorge Estrada was legitimately knocked out when he landed on the back of his head on the ring apron when Kid Kash swept his legs from under him. Now fighting alone, Hernandez lost out in the numbers department in 9:31 when Austin Aries defeated him by pinfall with a 450° splash. AK-47 make defence number 7 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C+

A music video is shown to promote the TV Champion 'Cowboy' James Storm. C-

Al Snow, Goldust & John Layfield v Ken Shamrock, Chuck & Kishi

A decent six man tag where everybody got in on the action and hit their signature moves in true TNA style (ie in rapid succession one after the other). At no point in the match did John Layfield want anything to do with Ken Shamrock, every time Shamrock tagged in, Layfield tagged out and Shamrock never got the chance to cause him some serious pain. The heels took the six man in 11:46 when Al Snow defeated Kishi by pinfall with a Snow Plow. C

Kevin Kelly is backstage conducting an interview with Maven and The Miz, who announce they've formed a tag team to be called Tough Enough, and will be challenging AK-47 for the Tag Team Championship at Destination X having beat them both in singles matches on recent editions of Impact. C

Mike Sanders v The Miz

On the subject of The Miz, he continued his current wave of momentum by disposing of Sanders in a very good match, his impressive victory coming in 10:47 by pinfall with a Mizard of Oz. B-

Backstage and Rey Mysterio Jr is taking to Eddie Guerrero, or at least trying to. Rey says he is not angry at Eddie for throwing coffee in his face and he’s not going to hit him, but they go back a long way and he is perplexed by his actions and wants to know why he did it. Eddie simply says nothing and walks off. C

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v The Amazing Red

Brock dominated the much smaller Red, who got very little offence in. By the end, Red was suffering and in pain and it was merciful when Lesnar finished him off in 8:05 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. Lesnar is on a roll and who will stop him? B-

A hurt Mick Foley, still suffering from being power bombed on concrete by Abyss on Impact two nights ago meets Harley Race backstage. Mick says he would be glad to be in Ogden, Utah, but he is hurting too much to really know. Race tells him that’s a shame, and makes a gesture with his hands. Abyss blindsides Foley and throws him into a nearby wall. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Little Guido

Although there were sporadic spells of great action, Coleman and Guido didn’t click at all in the ring and it showed, with the match suffering significantly. Coleman was in control for the majority of the contest and his caused was helped further when for reasons unknown, Jamie Noble came to ringside and distracted Little Guido. It made little difference to the outcome as Coleman was looking very likely to retain, and did so in 11:02 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 15 of his TNA X Division title. D+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Chavo Guerrero Jr

Chavo comes to the ring following Caprice’s victory and cashes in his Feast or Fired briefcase! What followed was a bout that was much better than the first defence from Coleman and also went on for a few minutes longer. As fatigue started to set in for Coleman, Guerrero took more and more control of the match. However, the champion dug down deep and overcame the opportunist in 15:24 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 16 of his TNA X Division title. C+

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Brother Ray (champion) v Steve Corino

Having come close on Explosion in January in an Extreme Rules match, Corino had his second chance here and came close again in a decent main event. Ray managed to hold him off though in a match that was classic old school style. Ray got the better of Corino in 19:29 by pinfall with a Bubba Bomb. Brother Ray makes defence number 5 of his TNA Heavyweight title. B-
