PRE SHOW

In a bout that featured great action and a good crowd, Doug Williams and Little Guido defeated Jamie Noble and Johnny Kashmere in 8:01 when Little Guido defeated Jamie Noble by pinfall with an Arriverderci. C+

Impact

Sunday, week 1, March 2006

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 2, March 2006

Cambria County War Memorial, Johnstown, PA.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRvlQSi36MW-WFDbuq9ewDRMctFNjhyp4y8NrvhM1vKWsWSkcl9

Impact starts in the office of the TNA Director of Authority. Dusty Rhodes is behind his desk and in his office are Desmond Wolfe, D’Lo Brown, Jerry Lynn and Mike Sanders. He tells them he has a back up plan in case Caprice Coleman does trade in the X Division Championship for a shot at the TNA Heavyweight Championship. He says that there will be a six man Ultimate X for the vacant championship and the four of them are in the match… if Coleman trades in. C-

Mike Sanders v Roderick Strong v The Miz

An entertaining triple threat match to kick off the action on Impact tonight as the action here never stopped. All three men came close to emerging as the victor and that right ended up befalling The Miz when he continued his hot run in 8:59 by defeating Mike Sanders by pinfall with a Mizard of Oz. C+

At the announce desk, Mike Tenay announces that Evan Karagias versus Lance Storm has been added to Destination X. C-

Backstage, and Jamie Noble has attacked Little Guido, following up from distracting Guido when he challenged for the X Division Championship on Explosion this past Wednesday. D+

New Announce Team v T N A

A decent enough match and like on Explosion, Albert Bloom and Test Martin simply overpowered their much smaller opponents. Their win was fairly easy and arrived in 7:13 when Albert Bloom defeated The Amazing Red by pinfall with a Train Wreck. C

Steve Corino speaks from the locker room, applauding the TNA Heavyweight Champion Brother Ray. He speaks with respect and says Ray is the better man, having defeated him twice in two months. B-

Maven and The Miz are backstage and attack the Tag Team Champions, AK-47. With Aries and Kash writing on the concrete floor, Maven screams that they are tough enough to be the new Tag Team Champions. C

TNA TV TITLE

‘Cowboy’ James Storm (champion) v EZ Money

A good TV Title match and one where Money, not been in action as much of late after vanquishing his rival Vampiro, proved a stiff test for the champion. ‘Cowboy’ likes a tough fight though, and with a finishing move that can come from virtually nowhere, will be tough to dethrone. EZ just came up short in 12:12 by pinfall with a Superkick. 'Cowboy' James Storm makes defence number 6 of his TNA TV title. C+

Potter conducts a remote interview with Mick Foley. Potter asks about Foley’s condition. Foley says he is disappointed that he is not able to be in Johnstown, Pennsylvania but his body is too knocked up to fly. He promises he will get his revenge on Abyss at Lockdown where the Hardcore Legend will live up to his name. We then see a commercial for a budget USA based airline. C+

Doug Williams and Jamie Noble are backstage arguing and being kept apart by security and officials. Williams tells Noble he needs to show some professionalism and respect and stop sneak attacking people. C+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v Shoichi Funaki

The two didn’t click at all which made the match suffer, which was a shame as there was some great action in it. Lesnar was again dominant and turned it into a win in 7:12 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. D+

Kevin Kelly speaks to Kishi backstage, who tells Kelly that he has come to TNA to win titles. C+

Elsewhere backstage, and Al Snow, Goldust and John Layfield laugh at Ken Shamrock for losing on Explosion and choosing partners that “suck”. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Eddie Guerrero

An outstanding match, the best in TNA for some time and one of the best in it’s history. Coleman and Guerrero wrestled, counter wrestled, took to the air and put on a tremendous match that the crowd loved, all between the best X Division Champion ever and a bona fide star making his TNA in ring debut. Coleman nearly retained… Guerrero nearly won the title on his debut… but the difference makers came from the locker room. The TNA Heavyweight Champion was first to run in, sliding under the ropes and attacking Caprice Coleman, causing Jack Doan to call for the disqualification in 18:01. Shortly afterwards, Rey Mysterio Jr rushed the ring and chased away Eddie Guerrero. Coleman and Ray were left in the ring, Coleman having won by disqualification making defence number 17 of his TNA X Division title. TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes’ music then hit. B

Dusty Rhodes gets a mic and tells them that if either of them lays another hand on each other then they will be stripped of their title. Ray in particular isn’t happy with this. Rhodes then addresses Coleman and tells him it’s decision time. If he wants the TNA Heavyweight Championship match at Destination X then he needs to tell him now and hand over the X Division Championship, so that Dusty can book Ultimate X for the vacant championship. Coleman says he is proud to be the X Division Champion, proud at the run he has had with the title and proud to be the company’s face of the X Division, but it is time to move onwards and upwards, so yes, Caprice says he will trade in for a Heavyweight Championship match with Brother Ray at Destination X. Rhodes shakes the hand of Caprice Coleman, takes the X Division Championship belt from him, and wishes him luck for Destination X… but as he leaves, he tells Coleman and Brother Ray that the no contact rule remains in place until their match at Destination X, otherwise Ray will be stripped of the title or Coleman will forfeit his title match. Ray has his head in his hands as Coleman salutes the crowd. B

Show rating: C+

The show can be deemed a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the matches.

Little Guido was used too much.

Attendance: 4575

Loss: $42,346

Caprice Coleman v Eddie Guerrero was the sixth best match in TNA history.

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Air Paris defeated Chris Hero in 5:51 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C+

Impact

Sunday, week 2, March 2006

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 3, March 2006

James A. Rhodes Center, Akron, OH.

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT8uoZWaCtpEKHHSMFmVHov2ytQLuDJERkDQ_oLif2L68xbM40bmA

Rey Mysterio Jr is in the ring at the start of Impact and he calls out Eddie Guerrero. Eddie’s music hits and out walks ‘Latino Heat’. Eddie gets in the ring and stares at Rey. Rey asks Eddie why he is acting the way he is. Eddie says nothing. Rey starts getting personal and makes jibes at the Guerrero family, which draws a bit of heat, despite Rey being the face here. Eddie finally breaks his silence, telling Mysterio he is here to “right some wrongs” from the past and “to beat people up who have crossed him in the past”. With that, Eddie brutally attacks Mysterio, finishing him off by throwing him into the ring post. C-

Backstage and T N A are on screen, with Albert Bloom and Test Martin saying they are the best two big men in wrestling and therefore the best big man tag team in wrestling. C+

Doug Williams & Evan Karagias v Jamie Noble & Lance Storm

An opening tag team contest that was a little mediocre, not helped by a sub standard performance from Evan Karagias. This of course also didn’t help his partner Doug Williams and it led to the face pair losing in 6:55 when Jamie Noble defeated Evan Karagias by submission with a Guillotine Choke. C-

Christian Cage speaks from backstage, saying that he will beat The Truth at Destination X. Cage goes on to say that he is the better wrestler and completely sane, while Truth is a nut job and an imaginary paedophile. C+

In his office as the TNA Director of Authority, Dusty Rhodes is with Air Paris and Paul London. He tells the two that they are the other competitors in Ultimate X for the X Division Championship and wishes them both luck in the match. C

Chuck & Kishi v Los Guerreros (Chavo Jr & Ultimo)

A much better tag affair than the opener as both teams put on a good display as they look to earn themselves a shot at the champions. It was the new team of Chuck and Kishi who prevailed here in 8:59 when Chuck Palumbo defeated Ultimo Guerrero by pinfall with a Super Kick. C+

Cameras go backstage where the team of Tough Enough (Maven and The Miz) are attacking one half of the Tag Team Champions, Austin Aries. Miz tells Aries the belts will be theirs at Destination X. C

The show then sees a house. Through a window of the lounge is seen the X Division Champion, Caprice Coleman, relaxing by watching television. A shadowy figure emerges from the side of the house and the TNA Heavyweight Champion, Brother Ray is dragging a bloody and older black man across the front lawn. Ray knocks on the window and Coleman looks through he. He screams “NO, DAD!” and races out of the room. Before Coleman can come through the door, Ray throws Caprice’s dad into the wall of the house and as Coleman bursts through the front door, Ray runs off. B+

TNA TV TITLE

‘Cowboy’ James Storm (champion) v Bryan Danielson

The Cowboy is establishing himself as a respected and deserving TV Champion and he cemented this by defeating the former World and X Division champion Danielson. The victory was by no means easy, in fact it was tough for Storm, but he is a tough guy and overcame somebody who is reasonably said a better wrestler in 10:51 by pinfall with a Superkick. 'Cowboy' James Storm makes defence number 7 of his TNA TV title. C+

Backstage in the locker room and Jamie Noble taunts Little Guido, calling him useless and not deserving of a spot on the TNA roster. C

In the backstage interview area, Kevin Kelly is speaking to Mike Sanders, who tells everyone he is going to become the next X Division Champion when he wins Ultimate X. C+

Eddie Guerrero v ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

A match that didn’t produce the standard that many expected, though Guerrero showed his quality and overcame Harris, making Harris the second former World Heavyweight champion to lose on this edition of Impact. Guerrero took the spoils in 9:56 by pinfall with a Frog Splash. C-

In a corridor backstage, Al Snow, Goldust and John Layfield are hunting down Ken Shamrock. They find him and attack. Once sufficiently beaten, Layfield handcuffs Shamrock to a pipe. Bruised and hurt, Shamrock is powerless to prevent Goldust from pushing Gordon into his mouth, and then sliding it back and forth. Shamrock’s eyes are bulging in rage but he is powerless to stop the oral sexual act. C-

Mick Foley is back on Impact and says how happy he is to be in Akron, Ohio. He address Abyss, the man that forced him to stay at home last week. Foley says he has never quit at anything and won’t do so now, so challenges Abyss to make their Lockdown match an I Quit match inside the Lockdown cage. C+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v Steve Corino

A disappointing main event to finish a mediocre show overall. Corino was off his game and the two in the ring didn’t gel, meaning the match didn’t flow. The match dragged on as the crowd grew bored and some even left early. Lesnar finally finished it in 14:40 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. D+

Show rating: C-

The show might have hurt TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles helped to lift the show.

Divine Storm v New Announce Team

A high quality opening match that had the crowd on their feet and as a result Chris Divine and Quiet Storm had the loudest and best reception they have had in their TNA careers. Even so, they came out on the short end in this tag bout in 6:51 when Joel Maximo defeated Quiet Storm by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. Following the match, T N A (Albert Bloom & Test Martin) stormed the ring and took out both teams, sending a message to the tag team division. The crowd cheered when Divine Storm and New Announce Team helped each other to their feet following the T N A assault. B-

Johnny Kashmere v Little Guido

Quite a come down after the quality on show in the opener, but this match in itself was not a bad one. Neither competitor has been too active in TNA of late, which did not help. Guido came away with one in his W column, polishing it off in 8:34 by pinfall with an Arriverderci. C-

Kevin Kelly speaks to the TV Champion backstage. ‘Cowboy’ James Storm speaks of his delight at being the champion. C-

Evan Karagias v Lance Storm

Two wrestlers who struggled to gel in the ring which affected the match and made the quality suffer, the crowd getting noticeably quieter since the great first match. Karagias took the bout but the crowd are getting turned off in 12:24 by pinfall with a Tidal Wave. The action needs to pick up. D+

Double R v Los Guerreros (Chavo Jr & Ultimo)

Thankfully the quality kicked back up big time and the crowd got going again. An exciting, fast paced and back and forth contest saw Double R and the Guerreros put on a show. Double R edged it and perhaps picked up their biggest win to date in 9:44 when Rocky Romero defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. by pinfall with a Rated R. B-

A recap of T N A taking out Divine Storm and New Announce Team is shown, with Mike Tenay putting over Albert Bloom and Test Martin. C

Doug Williams v Jamie Noble

Some superb action between two of the best in the TNA locker room. Both men showed the arsenal and both men hit their signature moves. Both men kicked out on the stroke of three. The match slowly went the way of Jamie Noble, and he was able to finish it off in 14:23 by submission with a Guillotine Choke. B

NWA TNA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

AK-47 (champions) v Tough Enough

A decent first championship of the match though overshadowed by previous contests. Aries was struggling with an arm injury suffered during a backstage attack by Maven and The Miz on Impact last Monday night, so Kid Kash had to carry more of the match for the champions. This didn’t stop the champions from making a successful defence of their titles, doing so in 13:38 when Kid Kash defeated The Miz by pinfall with a Money Maker. AK-47 make defence number 8 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C

Backstage and Al Snow and John Layfield taunt Ken Shamrock (who is not in Atlanta) about having oral sex with Gordon the golden dildo on Impact. The segment was not well received. E+

Christian Cage v The Truth

A match that had quite a lot of build up, but did not reach the hype. One reason was the two did not click in the ring. The other was that Truth is hampered by his injury. Cage got the better of Truth for much of the match and turned his superiority into victory in 12:25 by pinfall with an Unprettier. C-

Eric Bischoff strides out to the ring with his client, Brock Lesnar. Bischoff boasts he has the most legitimate fighter on the TNA roster and that Brock is on a huge winning streak. He also says that Brock can beat anybody on the card tonight, but he is taking a well deserved night off. B-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

ULTIMATE X

Air Paris v Desmond Wolfe v D’Lo Brown v Jerry Lynn v Mike Sanders v Paul London

With the championship belt hanging above the ring and wires suspended across it, the high flying spectacle returns to determine the new champion.

What we got was a surprise winner.

Paris, London and Lynn did most of the on the wires and so all three men got their hands on the championship, but were not able to free the championship belt to win it. Wolfe especially spent most of his time fighting on the mat.

The surprise came when Desmond Wolfe was the one to retrieve the belt. He used his nous to pick his one time to climb the turnbuckles and make his way across the wires, pulling out gloves from his tights before he started to swing across. He picked his time with London, Lynn and D’Lo out on the fall, and Paris and Sanders having fallen from the wires while fighting over the belt. Wolfe swung across, freed the title and dropped to the canvas in 19:48. Desmond Wolfe wins the TNA X Division title. C

Mick Foley is backstage. He has Harley Race and is dragging him round the parking lot by his collar. He then brutally attacks Race and throws him into a car, making him bleed. Foley brutalises Race some more, throwing him into the side of a dumpster and hitting him with a fire extinguisher among other items. Race, clearly badly hurt, shouts “enough. I quit, I quit”, so Foley throws him out of the arena and says he is delighted to have ended Harley Race in Atlanta, Georgia. C+

Eddie Guerrero v Rey Mysterio Jr

A match that featured some great action but surprisingly, the two didn’t work well together in the ring. Some classic action featured as Rey hit the skies often and Eddie reached into his full box of tricks to produce all sorts of chicanery that often worked. Once Eddie won the match in 19:04 by pinfall with a handful of tights, he was heard saying that his win over Rey is one of the wrongs he has just righted. C+

Prior to the main event, TNA Director of Authority meets Caprice Coleman backstage. Rhodes tells the former X Division Champion that for what it’s worth, he thinks that Caprice has made the right decision to give up that belt for a Heavyweight Championship match and he knows that Caprice will not let him down. Coleman tells Rhodes he will give it everything. B

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Brother Ray (champion) v Caprice Coleman

This is the end… of Caprice Coleman the X Division champion…

A really hot crowd and some excellent action and a great way to round off the show even with a lack of psychology on show. Coleman was incredibly resilient in this match. He kicked out of a Bubba Bomb and also a Bubba Cutter. With Ray getting increasingly frustrated at not being able to put Coleman away, he started making mistakes, mistakes which allowed Coleman back into the match. A flurry of offence nearly won Coleman the title, but after putting his foot on the bottom rope, Ray bailed out of the ring to regroup with himself.

Ray came back with new found fury and was close to retaining again, but Coleman once again absorbed the punishment, kicked out of pinfall attempts and realised his dream of becoming the Heavyweight Champion by putting the match to bed in 24:27 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman wins the TNA Heavyweight title and the crowd go absolutely mental, Coleman is hugely popular in the South East, along the lines of The Rock and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in Attitude Era WWF. B-

Having won the TNA Heavyweight Championship, Caprice Coleman picks up the belt and goes into the crowd, celebrating his championship victory as his adoring fans chant his name. B

Show rating: C+

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.
