I don't want to say I really enjoyed wcw during this era, but I'd rather just say I enjoyed the era as a whole. I will be following, and I do feel that american males were very overlooked and had potential. But it seems that way about most of the wcw roster from then to their death :). Good luck, looks like you really know your stuff.

Best part of this diary: I read everyone's line in their voice. :)

DDP in the Horsemen is an interesting choice. I'm a big Pillman mark, so here's hoping he can still slide into the forth spot.

And when, oh when, is Sting going to comment on Luger? It all has to fall apart here for Hogan one way or another.

I actually like the American Males. Not the name or the gimmick, but the tag team. I thought they could have done decent with a different look. I always thought Riggs was overlooked alot.

I definitely see your point on this one, as I feel somewhat the same as you. Given their age at the time, I don't think the gimmick was terrible, but I just don't think they were ever given much of a chance.

I agree about the talent. I mean look back at all of the talent WCW let go over the years - Steve Austin, Triple H (as Terra Ryzing), The Undertaker (Mean Mark Callous, maybe NWA at the time?), Chris Jericho (which dumbfounds me to this day)...the list goes on. Now, to their credit, finding the next big thing in professional wrestling is harder than a needle in a haystack, but still, a lot of the biggest players in history were there at some point or another and never really took off.

Thanks! I really try to go for the voices:p I really do, and this might be a little sad, hear their voices in my head as I type.

About DDP - I figured that some people may be confused about that one, but I really think DDP should have taken off during this time rather than later, and with someone like Flair by his side, he just might do that. Plus, he always played a great face or a great heel, which cannot be an easy thing to do and is often underrated.

As for the Stinger, his comments will come....oh, they will come..

A word for the followers:

The preview for the next Nitro might make it up tonight (Friday night - US), however, if that's not the case, I won't be able to post it until Tuesday evening as I am going out of town to visit the in-laws this weekend on through President's Day:eek:

For those who don't follow:

Start following.

Agreed, it is just sometimes it seems like they even went out of their way to do wrong with the talent, haha.

The thing is none of them really showed us anything in WCW. I was a fan of Steve Austin (way before it was the cool thing to be) but to me he seemed to be destined to be a Barry Windham like wrestler. All the talent in the world but something missing from him, so therefore he is a mid-carder for life. Now was that WCW fault or Steve's fault? I don't know.

Undertaker wasn't really in WCW/NWA for a long time, and he was getting a good push as one-half of The Skyscrapers. Was he getting a main event push? No but who is to say that somewhere down the line he wouldn't.

And HHH was a jobber in WCW, and in my opinion (and I am going to catch hell for this) would have been a WWF midcarder if he had not married the daughter of the boss.

I agree with you on Chris Jericho 100%, that is one I can't disagree with because he was/is a great talent and he go over with the fans of WCW despite the fact that management was trying to hold him back.

WCW Monday Nitro Preview

Week 3, September 1995

The following matches are set to take place on WCW Monday Nitro LIVE on TNT:

WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST ROUND MATCH

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/U%20Images/Ultimo_Dragon12.jpg vs. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/justtxyank/KyKy/Chris%20Jericho/ChrisJericho12.jpg

Ultimo Dragon vs. Chris Jericho

These two cruiserweights are making their debut in WCW, and both have a chance to advance to the second round of the WCW Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. Which one of these high-flyers will do it?

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/tristramwcw/HughMorrus.jpg vs. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/B%20Images/Big_Bubba_Rogers.jpg

Hugh Morrus vs. Big Bubba Rogers

In a match featuring two impressive in-ring performers, is there a place for comedy or will one of the biggest bullies in WCW, Big Bubba Rogers, finally put a serious face on Hugh Morrus?

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/Rename/RandySavage2.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/H%20Images/Hulk_Hogan17.jpg vs. http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab239/Animal_GWF/Meng.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/B%20Images/Big_Show12.jpg

Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan vs. Meng & The Giant

Last week, Randy Savage defeated Meng despite interference from the Dungeon of Doom, however, after the match, the Dungeon attempted to beat down Savage. Luckily for Savage, his good friend Hulk Hogan was nearby and was able to come for the save. With emotions high, Hogan and Savage challenged any two members of the Dungeon, and the two members chosen just happen to be two of the biggest monsters in WCW - Meng and The Giant. What will prevail? Good, or evil?

Plus, Sting, who has remained silent for the past two weeks, has finally decided to make his comments on Luger known, but the question still remains - where is Lex Luger?

Also, Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen have promised to announce their fourth and final member to join them. Who could it be?

Quick Picks

Ultimo Dragon vs. Chris Jericho

Hugh Morrus vs. Big Bubba Rogers

Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan vs. Meng & The Giant

Fourth member of the Four Horsemen:

Yea, I agree with your points. Really, I was just eluding to how mishandled and poorly gimmicked some of WCW's lower midcarders were at the time - especially those who went on to have fantastic careers.

As far as HHH, I think he would have made it without Stephanie. He really started gaining fame when he was with The Clique (not just the on-screen DX, but the backstage group - Nash, Hall, Waltman, Michaels), which in itself could be his reason for shot putting into the main event scene.

My picks r jericho, rogers, and hogan and savage. My guess at who the fourth horseman will be is somebody who is up a coming, maybe a jericho type?

As for hhh, he would have made it without steph lol...and to be honest wcw mis used all their young and upcomers and to me it seemed like if you were not old and established already you were not allowed to have a main event spot lol. Austin always had charisma, the wcw decided to overlook that I guess :/

WCW Monday Nitro LIVE on TNT

Live in Boston, MA in front of 8,690 fans

With no time wasted, no pyro explosions, and no introductions, The Stinger's music floods the arena. Sting makes his way to the ring, still being the fun loving baby face by slapping fives with fans on the way. Upon entering the ring, however, he seems to get very serious.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/S%20Images/Sting73.jpg

Sting: Now I know people have been waiting...and waiting...and waiting for me to say something about my good friend, Lex Luger. People want to know exactly what I know, but I'm sorry to inform you all that I don't know much. Did I know he was coming to WCW? No. Do I know if he's actually employed for WCW? No. I don't even know why he interrupted my match with Hogan. To be perfectly honest, guys, I haven't talked to him in quite some time. I can't tell you much. However, I can tell you that if he's here, it's because he has bridges to burn... but also patches to sew. I know he didn't show up last week and I don't know if he's going to show up this week, or the next, or the next. But right now, I trust my friend. I trust Lex Luger is here for all the good reasons.

Sting sets the microphone down and exits the ring to a crowd that doesn't have much reaction to what was just said. There were obvious cheers for Sting because he's Sting, but there were a few hidden boos that echoed because of the lack of knowledge gained regarding Lex Luger. The cameras then cut to Eric Bischoff and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

Rating: B-

Bischoff: Well, I don't know what to make of that Bobby. Do you?

Heenan: He's lying. He has to be lying, Bischoff. He and Luger are tighter than..

Bischoff: Don't (cutting Heenan off) go there. Anyways, we've got a jam packed show tonight for you, including the debuts of two cruiserweights: Ultimo Dragon and Chris Jericho. The funny man, Hugh Morrus, taking on Big Bubba Rogers. And, the main event, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage against The Giant and Meng. Savage looks to gain revenge on the Dungeon of Doom for recent attacks, and with the help of Hulk Hogan, does the Dungeon even stand a chance?

Heenan: Bischoff, have you see The Giant...or Meng? They're humongous. Ginormous. They're...

Bischoff: Yea, we get it. They're big. But Hogan is The Hulkster and the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. I don't see anyone stopping him or the Macho Man tonight!

The music of Ultimo Dragon hits, and the first match is under way where the winner advances to the second round of the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/U%20Images/Ultimo_Dragon12.jpg vs. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/justtxyank/KyKy/Chris%20Jericho/ChrisJericho12.jpg

...

Ultimo Dragon applies a submission, getting Jericho in the Dragon Sleeper. He's applying the pressure. Jericho goes for the ropes, and gets there, breaking the hold. Jericho recovers to his feet and connects with the Enzuigiri. Dragon is dazed and tries to take a breather, but Jericho gets to him and connects with a nice European Uppercut. Jericho then connects with a Springboard Dropkick. Jericho tries for the Lionsault....and he hits it! He goes for the Lion Tamer, and Ultimo Dragon has no choice but to tap out!

Winner: Chris Jericho

After the commercial break, Mean Gene Okerlund is standing backstage with the Harlem Heat - challengers at WCW Fall Brawl for the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

Okerlund: Gentlemen, let me start off by asking you, how do you feel about your upcoming match with The American Males at Fall Brawl?

Booker T: How do we feel? Lemme tell you somethin, sucka, you'll neva know what it feels like to be me! And soon, we gonna know what it feels like to be the tag team champs again. My brother Stevie and I got some big plans to run the tag team division and it starts with the Females.

Stevie Ray: You hear what he said, Gene? It starts with them, but it ain't gonna end there. We gonna run all up and down WCW's tag teams my brotha. Bagwell and Riggs ain't nothin but a couple of chumps who stumbled on those titles.

Booker T: Yea, but they just holdin 'em for us right now. We gonna take our titles right back where they belong in a couple of Sundays. You dig?

The cameras cut back to the ring for more action as Hugh Morrus fights Big Bossman.

...

Hugh Morrus catches Rogers with a surprise DDT. The pin, 1...2...NO! Big Bubba recovers and reverses another attempted DDT by catching the foot of Morrus, spinning him around, and clotheslining him to the ground. He then applies a sleeper hold, and Morrus almost taps but manages to break it. After he recovers, Morrus attempts a forearm shot, but its countered into a spinning side slam. The pin, 1...2...3!

Winner: Big Bubba Rogers

*** COMMERCIAL BREAK ***

We come back from a commercial to see The Giant and Meng making their ways to the ring to heavy boos. Shortly thereafter, Savage and Hogan make their separate ways to the ring to loud cheers, and then louder cheers. Savage looks particularly angry and is furious to charge at Meng in the ring before the bell even rings.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/Rename/RandySavage2.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/H%20Images/Hulk_Hogan17.jpg vs. http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab239/Animal_GWF/Meng.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/B%20Images/Big_Show12.jpg

At the sound of a bell, Pavlov's Theory seems to be in play as Savage immediately, in almost a possessed way, charges at Meng and takes him down with a clothesline and a loud roar from the crowd.

...

Meng taps in The Giant. He goes at with with Savage, trading blows left and right. The both of them then sprint at each other from across the ring and a double clothesline takes them out. Both men slowly go to tag in their partners, with Savage stretching out for dear life to tag in Hogan. The crowd errupts as Hogan stops The Giant from making his tag. He goes Hulkster on The Giant by throwing punch after punch. He tosses The Giant to the ropes and looks to connect with the Big Boot, but he is taken down by a sweeping arm under the ropes. Sure enough, just as Meng distracted the referee, Zodiac reached under the ropes to trip Hogan. The Giant now comes back, picks up Hogan, and chokeslams him to the mat! He goes for the pin, 1...2...NO! Save from Savage! Meng comes in and takes takes Savage with him over the ropes. While outside, members of the Dungeon of Doom beat on Savage as The Giant attempts another pin. 1...2...NO! KICKOUT! Hogan gets up and gets fired up! He takes every hit from The Giant, one after one, shaking his head, until Hogan punches The Giant to the mat. He goes for the Big Boot, and then for the pin. As the ref counts, he looks to see LEX LUGER walking in from the crowd. Once again, Luger walks into the ring. The ref has no choice but to end the match again. Meanwhile, outside the ring, Sting has come to the save of Savage!

No Contest

Rating: B

After the second no contest in three weeks at the hands of Luger, Hogan was furious! He and Luger got face to face in the ring. They start arguing immensely, until Sting, who just saved Savage outside the ring, climbs in. There is chaos as now Sting is trying to calm both men down. The Giant, still trying to get at Savage, chases him into the ring as well! They both stop abruptly, not realizing what has happened in the ring. Now, Hogan, Luger, Sting, Savage and The Giant are all in the ring looking around at each other, not sure of who to fight off or who to embrace.

Just when things couldn't get any crazier, Ric Flair's music played!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/Rename/RicFlair3.jpg

Flair steps onto the stage with a microphone in hand.

Flair: WOOO! Gentlemen, I promised big things for the Four Horsemen. And I know I promised that I'd reveal the Fourth Horsemen. Well, I'm a man of my word. So ladies and gentlemen...the Fourth Horsemen is..........standing in that very ring! WOOOOO!

Bischoff: What the hell? Who could it be? Hogan? Sting? Who???

Heenan: Oh man, things just got even more interesting and even more bizarre! Only on WCW Monday Nitro, baby!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/H%20Images/Hulk_Hogan17.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/S%20Images/Sting73.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/Rename/RandySavage2.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/B%20Images/Big_Show12.jpghttp://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l309/cheesy1869/Lex_Luger3.jpg

The cameras cut to the ring to show all five men standing. Each one of them shoots indecisive looks to the other. Flair is shown laughing as he turns to leave and the cameras fade.

Rating: B+

Nice swerve at the end. Just who IS the fourth Horsemen? Enjoying the diary so far!

Thank you very much. I know, the swerve plays as a little cliff hanger. They're so great. I'm trying to form a kind of storm before the calm approach. Hopefully it's working.

I am guessing that it has to be The Giant. I feel none of the others would fit well in the horsemen. Great show again, Fall Brawl looks to pan out well with the main event taking shape. Like the pavlov reference ;)

Thanks. The main event is really forming well in my mind, even though technically there isn't one yet. I know in real life, main events for pay-per-views are usually set at least 2 weeks (in most cases) before the event, but for this one, I think the build up is better than just saying, these guys versus those guys. And, yes, I took a couple of psychology classes in college. Can't pass up a good Pavlov reference if I can use it.

I have to say that I don't think it could be either Sting or Hogan. However, the other three each would be great choices. Out of the five I would go with Luger due to his history with the Horsemen.

Luger is a good choice, as you said, because of his history. I think any of them are good choices for this diary just because each would have their own little twist at this point. In real life, there's probably 2 or 3 out of that group that it probably wouldn't have worked out too well for due to backstage turmoil, etc.

I love the buzz I've generated from a select few of you and I hope you keep following. I know this is my first diary and it's probably a little rough around the edges, but I'm having a lot of fun with it -- especially the suspense building! Who knows who the Fourth Horsemen could be??? Oh, wait, I do.:p

Remember, Sting has a history with the Horsemen as well. He was a Horseman until he got a match with Flair for the World title.

Yes but Sting never really fit as a memeber of The Horsemen. To me Luger was at his best when he was a member of the Horsemen. And he fit that group.

To me Sting was to big of a star to play backup to Ric. I don't know that is just my opinion on the subject. I do still love when the Horsemen turned on Sting. As a kid (I think I was in Jr. High School at the time) I was so pissed off at Ric for turning his back on my favorite wrestler, the man who helped him beat Terry Funk, Muta and Buzz Sawyer. But looking back at it that interview was killer, Ole came across as such a mean SOB (and from what I have read that was close to reality).

Just read all the way through this Crow and I enjoyed it. I don't know much about WCW, especially around this time but I could hear the Hogan/Savage/Heenan lines in my head as I was reading. I think you've got Hogan down particularly well. Anyway, just thought I'd say well done and I'll be reading, and no doubt predicting once I know what's what.

EDIT: Would you mind pointing me toward the mod you are using?

Thanks for following! Yea, I must admit, I have the most fun "hearing" the voices in my head (Randy Orton reference) while I'm typing.

The Mod is The War Begins 1995 Mod. It's in the TEW 2008 Mods section of these forums. I had it on 08 and then converted it to TEW10, while making some of my own personal adjustments.

To All:

The next Nitro preview will be up tomorrow and the show probably the following day.

Flyin' Brian vs. Eddy Guerrero

The winner of this match advances to face either Chris Jericho or Rob Van Dam in the Cruiserweight Championship match at Fall Brawl. Both men came off of impressive victories, including Pillman's win which went down as the first of its kind in WCW Monday Nitro history. Can he do it again? Or will the luchador style of Eddy Guerrero be too much for him to handle?

Even with Fall Brawl up ahead, The American Males are slated to defend their World Tag Team titles against The Blue Bloods this week. Can they do it? And if not, how will this change the Tag Team championship picture?

Also, Meng, a member of the Dunegon of Doom, will be interviewed by Mean Gene Okerlund to help bring some insight to the on-going drama between their stable and Macho Man Randy Savage.

PLUS, Lex Luger is scheduled to finally make an announcement regarding his recent appearing and disappearing in WCW. How will this unfold, especially on a show without a scheduled main event? Will he shed light on his employment with WCW, and judging by the way things ended on Nitro last week, might he be pledging his allegiance to the Four Horsemen?

With so many questions and so few answers heading into Fall Brawl, what, if any, of those questions will be answered? Find out on WCW Monday Nitro LIVE on TNT!

NOTE: Keep in mind, WCW is still only a one-hour show at this point - which explains the number of matches (however, there will be a main event announced during the show....). And, as you may have noticed, WCW Saturday Night was turned into a 'B' show. This was done this with the idea to convert Nitro to a two hour show at some point.

This is a really tough call and it should be a great match. I am going with Pillman.

I don't think the Blue Bloods will win but I am a huge fan of both Eaton and Regal. And I hate MA Bagwell! So there you go for that pick.
