Put in my predictions and dropped a comment in the Fanzone. I'm a pretty big fan of this, since it's so different from infinitywpi's yet still just as good. That Matt Keith alt is amazing, same with California Love Machine's.

Cheers John. Wish I could take some credit for those renders, but they're straight from the brilliant renderers for WMMA2! Anyway, glad you're enjoying the diary and thanks for the predictions.

Also great to see you using the FanZone - I like how people have been posting on there. I know this thread tends to get buried as a result, but the smarkiness within the diary website is quite cool!

Right, seeing as John's post started a new page, I'll just remind everyone that the prediction contest for the next Revolution & Uprising shows is now available!

A few regulars haven't yet posted, so this is a bit of a heads up and shameless bump before this descends into page 3!

I'm also contemplating including results/news etc within this thread, just as basic blocks of text. Don't worry - I don't want to stop doing the website, because that's my main driving force creatively in this diary and hopefully quite a few of you enjoy that. However, I'm also aware that it might put some people off, who prefer to simply read diaries within the thread and not have to click elsewhere.

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts. As I said, I'm definitely continuing with the website approach and I'm hoping the majority of people will want to click on the link to read results and updates in the most 'interesting' format. But would some people prefer the text within the diary as well? I've done an example in this thread so you can see what it would be like. The text below includes all the latest text updates from the website apart from the prediction contest. That's a website exclusive - hopefully so people will post smarky comments on the FanZone while they're viewing how they performed! :)

Please note - there is no way I'll be including graphics, colours etc within the thread - it takes me long enough to do the website bit! :D So please don't ask!

I've included a poll at the bottom of this entry for anyone to leave an opinion.

Revolution (March 2010)

The Snake Pit - 1,000 Crowd

The show opened with a singles bout between Snap Dragon and Ares Gibson. The crowd were delighted when Snap Dragon snapped into life, and his victory was completed with a Dragon’s Breath top-rope knee drop to earn the pinfall. The result allows Dragon to make a Live5 challenge next time out, whilst Gibson won neither the match nor the fans’ approval.

Next up was a non-title bout between the newly crowned Xtreme champion Insane Machine and CZCW newcomer Brendan Breeze. The ‘Air Apparent’ put in a really good showing here, rocking Machine on a number of occasions. But the veteran is on a roll, and it continued here as a brutal termination kick saw off Breeze and gave Machine the chance to challenge for Mikey James’ Live5 spot on Uprising the next night.

Talking of Mikey James, he was in action next with his Cali Dragons partner Frankie Perez, taking on Going Coastal (California Love Machine & Jeremiah Moose). Fresh off their Vendetta title match defeat against Shoot Club, the Dragons did at least return to winning ways here, as a Perez P-Clutch saw Jeremiah Moose submit.

After intermission, the show continued with a strong triple threat match. Most fans in attendance barracked Jackpot Jordan, and certainly he looked out-matched against Marc Speed and Matt Sparrow. Speed, despite his surly nature, has his fans as does the more amenable Sparrow. But with Sparrow grounded on the outside, Speed was able to make Jackpot submit here with his cross armbreaker.

The semi-main saw James Prudence regain form following his Vendetta defeat as he beat The American Flash with something to spare. Prudence looked unhappy, jaw-jacking with the crowd on a regular basis. Despite a rally from Flash, this one was Prudence all the way.

Finally, two newcomers met in the main event as ‘Shadow Assassin’ Fumihiro Ota met ‘Megastar’ Matt Keith. Both men had impressed in their singles debuts at Vendetta and this was a fine match which could have gone either way. However, despite Keith’s talent, he’s still a relative rookie and his over-confidence cost him here as Ota played possum successfully and then delivered a swift Ninja Strike for the pinfall win and Live5 ranking spot.

Uprising (March 2010)

The Snake Pit - Crowd 1,000

The champion was in action in the opener as Fox Mask defeated Ares Gibson in a non-title affair. Gibson suffered a second defeat in as many days and needs to regroup. He was undone here by a Fox Flip-Off DDT as the champion looked confident following his Vendetta title defence.

There was a CZCW debut in the evening’s second bout as ‘Dread Pirate’ Hugh de Aske took on Jeremiah Moose. The Going Coastal member seemed a bit befuddled by the unusual style of de Aske – both in and out of the ring. Keeping on an eye-patch for the whole match, the newcomer impressed at times with his innovative offence and pinned Moose following an impactful Cut-Throat Driver (backdrop driver).

The first half of the show ended with a tag match as the new combination of No Rulez Apply (Air Attack Weasel and Jonnie Perez) took on The Lords of Xtreme. Although the new team looked good in places here, the Lords had the upper hand in experience and tag know-how, and they got the win when a Cougar Pounce laid out Jonnie Perez.

Many fans were still at the concession stands when the second half started, with Jackpot Jordan scoring a win over California Love Machine. Notable here was the fact that Jackpot kept on talking to Love Machine’s valet Little Miss Sunshine through the match, although she looked disinterested in his advances.

The semi-main was a triple threat match with Donnie J beating Jackpot Jordan’s tag partner Jake Idol and Shoot Club member ‘Mr Submission’ Al Coleman. Coleman and Idol tended to work together on the more experienced Donnie, but in the end their squabbling cost them as Donnie J pinned Idol following a Death on Miami Beach top rope senton.

Finally, Insane Machine took on Mikey James in the main event. Machine’s Xtreme title was not on the line, but this was a Live5 Challenge match as a result of Machine’s win the previous night at Revolution. And Machine continued his great form of late as he pinned James following a termination kick to take the number 3 spot in the Live5.

LIVE5 UPDATE

There were two notable changes in the Live5 standings following on from the March Revolution & Uprising shows. The previously vacant number 4 spot was taken by Fumihiro Ota as he beat Matt Keith at Revolution. But then on Uprising, Insane Machine defeated Mikey James to take the number 3 spot, which in turn moved James to 4 and Ota already down to 5. It also meant that James Prudence was knocked out of the standings altogether.

Updated Live5 Standings

1. Donnie J

2. Frankie Perez

3. Insane Machine

4. Mikey James

5. Fumihiro Ota

BIRD DROPPINGS – MARCH 15th

I’m not going to lie to you, Bird-watchers – it’s not been a good couple of weeks for Matt Sparrow. The match against Donnie J at Vendetta was not only a disappointing defeat, but a really disappointing performance. I don’t feel I’ve really got my A-game on the go at the moment and it showed there. So apologies to all fans who had to put up with that. Donnie and I should really be doing better. And then, of course, I got beat again at Revolution. At least I wasn’t pinned, and a triple threat match is always a bit of a crap-shoot. I was just unlucky to be on the outside when Speed trapped Jackpot in his submission. I’d have probably gone on to win if I’d have broken up the submission attempt, but apparently Jackpot can’t last longer than about 3 seconds in a submission move!

Anyway, that’s all bad news. The good news is that I’ve got a couple of weeks now when I can get into the gym and into the ring for some practice and to get my edge back. I’ve already contacted Fox Mask and I’m going to help out at the Coastal Resort for a few days, partly to help train the young guys there and partly so I can work out a bit with Fox. Should be fun.

It’s not been mentioned on the CZCW site officially yet, and hopefully I won’t get into trouble for mentioning it here, but a couple of TCW officials were spotted at Vendetta. Archie Judge and Joel Bryant were two of the guys in our record crowd. And they were backstage after the event visiting. Well, okay, it was more than visiting. I don’t think anything has been totally decided yet, but I’d be on the look out for some more CZCW defections shortly. That’s the Bird’s-Eye-View anyway.

Okay, hopefully next time I blog I’ll be able to talk about some Birdman victories instead of defeats. Till next time, Bird-watchers, I’ve gotta fly.

TCW – TAKES COASTAL WRESTLERS!

CZCW has been rocked by the impending exit of 3 of our major star wrestlers. Following on from the recent exit of Remmy Skye to SWF, CZCW is now set to lose ‘Platinum’ James Prudence and The Cali Dragons (Frankie Perez & Mikey James). Their destination? The expanding empire of Total Championship Wrestling.

James Prudence wrestled for TCW in the past and many people, including those within CZCW, were expecting him to return to the big leagues sooner rather than later. His 4-year tenure here at the Coastal Zone included a tag title win and a Coastal Championship victory. ‘Platinum’ lost out in a title match to Fox Mask earlier in the month at Vendetta.

As for The Cali Dragons, they also were defeated at Vendetta when they had a tag title match against Shoot Club. Both Perez and James have been CZCW stalwarts for some time now and will be sorely missed in the future.

As ever, we wish all of our departing wrestlers good luck in their future careers.

A more pressing concern now for CZCW management is how the roster will be affected by the exits, and how this will affect the Live5 standings. Both James and Perez were current members of the Live5 and their departures will leave 2 spots vacant.

LIVE5 UPDATE

The CZCW exits of James Prudence, Frankie Perez & Mikey James have affected the Live5 standings. Although Prudence was already outside of the placings, Perez was at number 2 and James at number 4. CZCW management have made the decision that Insane Machine and Fumihiro Ota will move up the rankings to form a top 3 with Donnie J, leaving places 4 and 5 vacant. A decision has been made on how to fill these places for April’s Revolution and Uprising shows (see March 24th News Wire below).

CZCW NEWS – MARCH 24TH 2010

Recent CZCW news has been dominated by the loss of 3 more of our top wrestlers – namely James Prudence, Frankie Perez and Mikey James – to TCW. Sadly, it’s an unfortunate reality of our existence as a regional company. Guys make their name here and they are recognised at a national level by the big guns. Until the day comes when we’re on something of a level playing field with the TCWs and SWFs of this world, this pattern is likely to continue. But I’m sure the next Prudence, Perez and James are already being lined up within CZCW so that our future continues to look bright.

Insane Machine took advantage of the fact that James was obviously distracted at the recent Uprising show to beat him and take the number 3 spot in the Live5 rankings. For Machine, it’s been an excellent 2010 so far. He’s won the Xtreme title at Vendetta and now entered the Live5 where he could mount a serious challenge for the Coastal Zone Championship. Apparently though, Machine still has his mind on one other matter as well – he’s supposedly requesting to CZCW management that his protégé American Flash be given an opportunity against Machine for the Xtreme title as soon as possible. Who knows where that’s heading.

Machine beat Masked Cougar to win the Xtreme title, and it doesn’t look as though Cougar is desperate for a rematch immediately. Instead it would appear that he’s focused more on tag team wrestling right now, gaining a win at Uprising with Lords of Xtreme partner Snap Dragon against the new threat of No Rulez Apply (Air Attack Weasel & Jonnie Perez). If the Lords are again focusing on tag wrestling, that signals danger for the current tag champions Shoot Club.

‘Dread Pirate’ Hugh de Aske made an impressive debut at Uprising, beating Jeremiah Moose. De Aske may well be a danger in the singles ranks. As for Moose, his loss was compounded by that of his partner California Love Machine, who lost to Jackpot Jordan on the same show. And it seems that Jordan and Jake Idol are still making ‘eyes’ at Little Miss Sunshine. Indeed, Jake Idol has challenged Love Machine to a match in the near future so that he can show Little Miss Sunshine who the ‘real’ man of the two is.

The losses to TCW have certainly hit the Live5 placings hard. At the moment, only Donnie J, Fumihiro Ota and Insane Machine are in place, with 2 spots vacant. And with Surf Slam coming up in just over a month at the start of May, the question is who will get the title shot there, and who will Fox Mask put up the belt against in his obligatory defence during April. Insane Machine himself will have to defend his Xtreme title at Revolution, and the Machine is on duty in Japan on the day of Uprising. That leaves just Ota and Donnie J available, and understandably CZCW management are looking into a way to both fill the available Live5 spots and give Fox Mask a fair element of choice in his opponent as the Live5 rules decree.

The answer to the problem? Well, the last 6 men to win a singles match here in CZCW, and who are not currently in the Live5 rankings, will take on each other at Revolution. Then the winners of the 3 bouts will go forward to Uprising. Fox Mask will choose one of them to take on for the Coastal Zone Championship that night, with the winner holding the belt and the loser taking spot 5 in the Live5. And the remaining two men will square off for the number 4 spot in the Live5. Complicated? Yes. But it gives 6 men – namely Matt Keith, Snap Dragon, Jackpot Jordan, Hugh de Aske, Marc Speed and Matt Sparrow - a real opportunity.

Talking of Keith, he again impressed even though he lost to Fumihiro Ota in the Revolution match which could have earned him a Live5 spot. He also turned down a development deal with RIPW to remain with CZCW this week.

Some youngsters who ply their trade elsewhere are likely to show up at April’s Revolution and Uprising shows. MAW tag team The Atlantic Connection, FCW talent Matt Hocking and ACPW high-flier Jayson Van Pelt are all expected to play some part at those shows.

The prediction contest for Revolution is now closed. However a new contest for Uprising has immediately opened instead.

So please head over and predict the new show - it doesn't matter if you didn't get around to predicting Revolution. I'll tally up scores from both shows after Uprising results are published.

Don't forget if you're a newcomer to the diary, you can visit the History section of the website to get up to date with what happened between January and March.

Block test results for Revolution are at the bottom of this post for those who prefer that.

Uprising (April 2010) Predictions

REVOLUTION (APRIL 2010)

Snake Pit - 1,000

The show began with the first of three qualifying Live5 matches and what turned out to be the match of the night as Matt Keith faced Jackpot Jordan. Yes, that’s right – Jackpot Jordan was indeed in the match of the night. He actually gave Keith plenty of challenge here, but in the end the ‘Megastar’ locked in the Proton Lock for the submission.

Next up was the new combination of No Rulez Apply (Air Attack Weasel & Jonnie Perez) as they took on non-regular roster members Matt Hocking and Jayson Van Pelt. The thrown together duo worked hard on CZCW debut, but Weasel did pick up the pin on Van Pelt.

The match before intermission was the second Live5 qualifier of the evening, as former Coastal Zone champion Snap Dragon took on Zone newcomer Hugh de Aske. De Aske had won his debut last month and nearly made it 2 for 2, but his opponent was just too experienced and a Dragon Drop top rope knee drop saw off the ‘Dread Pirate’.

The second half of the show began with the Xtreme title on the line as Insane Machine defended against Jeremiah Moose. This was a solid bout, with the Going Coastal member showing some flashes of excellence before being grounded and ‘terminated’ by Insane Machine’s termination kick finisher.

The semi-main was the 3rd and final Live5 qualifier as tag champ Marc Speed took on Matt Sparrow. This actually turned out to be the poorest of the 3 qualifiers by some distance, despite being the one most of the crowd seemed to be looking forward to most going into it. Sparrow got a measure of revenge for his loss to Speed in a recent 3-way by winning this one to advance to tomorrow’s Uprising show.

The main event was a significant Coastal Corners match, as Live5 big guns Donnie J and Fumihiro Ota were both involved, alongside tag champ Al Coleman and former Xtreme champ Masked Cougar. And it was Donnie J making a real statement and pushing himself forward for a title challenge as he hit a Cougar Pounce on Coleman for the pin.

UPRISING (APRIL 2010)

Snake Pit - 1,000

For the second night running, Matt Keith was involved in both the opener and the match of the night. With Fox Mask electing to face Snap Dragon with the Coastal Zone Championship on the line, the 2 Matts – Keith and Sparrow – met with the 4th spot in the Live5 up for grabs. And it was the Birdman who was victories with a small package pinning the frustrated Keith.

Tag action was next as MAW team The Atlantic Connection (Curtis Jenkins and Riley McManus) came to town and challenged Rich & Famous. The Hollywood boys got the job done though, despite one or two hairy moments along the way, as Jake Idol pinned Jenkins.

Final match of the first half of the show saw Brendan Breeze and Masked Cougar go at it in a really solid display of aerial skills and chain wrestling. Breeze looked for long periods likely to get the breakthrough win he’s been looking for since entering CZCW, but in the end it was the Lords of Xtreme member and former Xtreme champion who won with a Cougar Pounce.

After intermission came the CZCW Tag Team titles bout, and No Rulez Apply got a shot at Shoot Club. Weasel and Perez tried to make the most of their opportunity here but Shoot Club are more experienced and their tag knowledge helped them win, as Speed made Perez submit to a Cross Armbreaker.

With no Fumihiro Ota on the show, Donnie J used the opportunity to pick up another singles win as he defeated Ares Gibson with relative ease. The match wasn’t great, but it must put Donnie on course to receive the next Coastal Championship shot at Surf Slam.

Finally came the Coastal Zone Championship match and old rivals Fox Mask and Snap Dragon squared off again. Dragon gave the champion all he could handle here, but in the end Fox managed to hold on to the gold as he rolled through a cross-body attempt from the top rope to snatch the pinfall win.

Quick Results

LIVE5 UPDATE (APRIL 14th)

The Live5 situation has become more settled following this month’s Revolution and Uprising shows. Snap Dragon won his Live5 qualifier on Revolution and was chosen by Fox Mask to take part in the Uprising title match. With Dragon losing the bout, he settled in at number 5 in the rankings. Meanwhile Matt Sparrow beat Matt Keith to take the other vacant spot at number 4. Donnie J’s two victories during the month kept him in the number 1 spot and it looks a straight battle between Donnie and 3rd placed Fumihiro Ota for who will get the title match at Surf Slam, as 2nd placed Insane Machine will be defending his Xtreme title on that show.

1. Donnie J

2. Insane Machine

3. Fumihiro Ota

4. Matt Sparrow

5. Snap Dragon

Bump for victorious Sparrow.

Is there another show before Surf Slam?

Nope, Surf Slam is the next one up at the beginning of May.

Basically the current CZCW schedule is to have a 'major' show at the start of January, March, May, July, September & November. Revolution & Uprising happen every month on the 10th and 11th. We've just had the April monthly shows, so Surf Slam is the next one at the start of May.

It's interesting how popular Sparrow is amongst the readers - he's not really bringing the goods in game to the extent I'd like. Sure, he got the match of the night last time out, but I think that has more to do with Matt Keith's involvement.

BIRD DROPPINGS – APRIL 18TH

Well, Bird-watchers, I said that the Birdman would get back on track and get back on track I did. It’s been a good month with wins over Marc Speed and Matt Keith pushing me into the Live5 positions at last. Although getting a win over Speedball was great, particularly as he’s beaten me in a 3-way the previous month, the win over Keith gave me more satisfaction. The kid has come into CZCW bragging about how he’s a great Megastar. But at the end of the day he can’t quite get the job done. He couldn’t beat Ota on his first chance to get into the Live5. And then he fell short against the Birdman. The guy talks a good game and he’s obviously got the 2nd generation thing in his favour. But that all counts for nothing if you can’t bring it in the ring. Keith has talent, no doubt about it. But he’s not got the experience yet and it’s showing in these important matches. Now just watch – he’ll whine about it and kick up a stink, as that’s what he seems to be good at. But maybe the guy needs to learn a little thing called respect. You have to show it to guys more experienced, and you have to earn it yourself.

I mentioned Ota before and I reckon he’s going to be free at the upcoming Surf Slam show. You see, my powers of prediction would suggest that Donnie J will get the title shot at Fox Mask. That would leave Ota without a match. And the Birdman is also without a match. So what do your reckon, ninja man? You and me in the ring at Surf Slam? See who the better man in the Live5 is? I’ll await a response.

Last time I blogged, I suggested that there were some CZCW defections on the horizon and sadly I was right. Frankie and Mikey were CZCW to the bone but they’ve served us well and hopefully they’ll do well in TCW. It’ll be interesting to see if they get altered gimmick-wise or even if their Cali Dragons team is kept together. I’m not surprised to see Prudence go. Again, he was good for the Zone, but I’m surprised he stuck it here that long. I always got the impression he was just biding his time until the big boys came calling again. Anyway, them leaving gives the opportunity for others to shine here and that Live5 spot that I now occupy wouldn’t have opened up if they were still here. So I can’t complain!

Until next time, Bird-watchers, I’ve gotta fly. Thanks for dropping in.

CZCW NEWS – APRIL 20TH 2010

Surf Slam is less than 10 days away and the card is beginning to shape up. The Championship Committee (Cliff Anderson, The Guru & Dylan Sidle) have been weighing up who should challenge Fox Mask for the Coastal Zone Championship on that show. With the recent changes in the Live5 following the departures of James Prudence, Frankie Perez and Mikey James, the committee have plumped for the man who has been the biggest constant in the rankings since their inception – Donnie J. The former 2-time champion won twice during April, including a win in Revolution’s Coastal Corners main event – a match which also featured fellow Live5 member Fumihiro Ota. So now Donnie gets the chance to regain the title he lost to current champion Fox Mask back in September of last year. It should make for a great main event at Surf Slam.

The elaborate process of filling the Live5 positions last month has meant that Matt Sparrow (4) and Snap Dragon (5) are now in the rankings. And the ‘Birdman’ has wasted no time in trying to further his own claims for a title match. Following on from the news that Donnie J is receiving the title match at Surf Slam, Sparrow has issued a challenge to number 3 ranked Fumihiro Ota for Surf Slam. Obviously a Sparrow win would raise him above Ota in the standings. Ota has not yet replied, but it is unlikely that the ‘Shadow Assassin’ will receive any better offers in the next 10 days.

The other titles in CZCW already have their matches set in stone for Surf Slam. Insane Machine is putting up his Xtreme title against his protégé American Flash. We reported on the last News Wire that Machine was lobbying for Flash to receive a title shot against him. But what exactly is Machine hoping to achieve here? He’s been seemingly less than impressed with Flash lately, feeling that Flash hasn’t progressed sufficiently for Machine’s liking. So it seems strange that Machine now is offering this shot to Flash. Perhaps Machine wants to give Flash the ultimate test – a match against his mentor with gold on the line.

As for the tag titles, Shoot Club will be defending against The Lords of Xtreme. Despite their experience as a team, Masked Cougar & Snap Dragon have never won the tag belts together. But with Cougar’s recent loss of his Xtreme title, and with Dragon losing out to Fox Mask over the Coastal Zone Championship just this month, it may be that the Lords are now focused more on tag team gold. This should be a really interesting match, as Shoot Club are really hitting their stride as champions lately.

Talking of Masked Cougar, he’s put pen to paper on a new 9-month PPA contract with CZCW. Another man to sign on the dotted line is current Coastal champion Fox Mask. He was being chased by RIPW, apparently for a developmental deal. But the CZCW icon is staying put – albeit with an improved contract!

Rich & Famous continue to ogle Little Miss Sunshine. The now manager-less duo are still seemingly trying to persuade Sunshine to ditch California Love Machine and join them. They’ve already had a tag win over Going Coastal (Love Machine and regular partner Jeremiah Moose), and just last month Jackpot Jordan beat Love Machine in a singles match. Signed for Surf Slam is a singles bout between Love Machine and Jake Idol. Can Love Machine turn the tables or will another win for Rich & Famous turn Sunshine’s head?

The recent CZCW departures have left some roster holes to fill, and it seems that there will be a couple of debuts and returns in the coming weeks. At Surf Slam, The Cannonball Kid will be making his CZCW debut. Don’t let the name fool you – the Kid has great experience both in the big leagues in the US and more recently down in Mexico. He’s signed an open contract for Surf Slam and is just awaiting someone to sign on the dotted line against him.

Meanwhile a former Coastal champion will be returning to the Zone in May to face off against current champion Fox Mask in non-title action at Uprising. Who is it? Well, keep your eyes and ears posted to the website to find out.

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">WORLD NEWS – APRIL 2010</span></p><p> </p><p>

SWF’s big show of the month was ‘The World Is Watching’. Well, if they were they wouldn’t have been too impressed with a largely lacklustre show. Eric Eisen retained the World title against Jack Bruce in the main event. But the earlier North American title match, which saw Brandon James retain against Jack Giedroyc, was widely held to be superior.</p><p> </p><p>

TCW’s ‘Where Angels Fear To Tread’ provided a better PPV, with former CZCW star James Prudence debuting in an All-Action title defeat to Chance Fortune. Rocky Golden retained against Sam Keith in the main event, but the talk of the night was the stunning semi-main tag match which saw the Freedom Fighters beat The Syndicate. In other TCW news, indy darling Acid joined on a written deal.</p><p> </p><p>

There is a change in power at NOTBPW as Dan Stone retires and leaves the promotion in the capable hands of his son Dan Jr. Steve Flash comes on board as head booker. Flash’s first job is to add Zoe Ammis to the slightly lacklustre women’s division.</p><p> </p><p>

There’s another new booker in place at PGHW. After Seiji Jimbo took the reins from his retiring father last month, he’s gone American for his head booker, with hardcore icon Larry Wood taking over.</p><p> </p><p>
