Two years on, and what a wild two year ride it's been. From the all time highs, to the very bottom of the lows, FCW has taken on a form that five years ago, you wouldn't think it was possible. But with a dedicated roster, and the financial backing of what many call to be the savior of FREEDOM Championship Wrestling, Joseph McTaggert, it seems the sky is the limit for this little wrestling promotion that could.

Tonight, we'll look back on the past two years, and watch the rise of this small Puerto Rican phenomenon, and hear from some of the athletes that were apart of making the company what it is today. I'm Keenan Johnson, and this is... The Rise to FREEDOM.

The day I had the privilege of meeting Joe McTaggert is a day I'll never forget if only because of the what he was wearing. We're in San Juan, it's hot as hell, the guy walk into La Bombanera in a full three piece suit, sweating like crazy, and he orders a Bud Light at 9:30 in the morning...

Joseph McTaggert

As a child, I was a huge fan of professional wrestling. Watching the greats like Sam Strong, and Dan Stone, and "Crippler" Ray Kingman, and just being in awe of what they would do to each other in the ring. I wanted so much to be like one of them, I went through the training, the whole nine yards, but I guess it just wasn't to be...

We thought he was crazy, that he was messing with us. So we took everything he said with a grain of salt, you know. But sure enough, the man delivered, and that was that... We had a good thing going when Joe showed up, and when he came on as a partner, all he wanted to do was provide to finances...

Joseph McTaggert

I didn't want to disrupt anything when I came down here. I'd seen some of the shows, and realized right away that this was something special, that this was a product that is truly home grown, and it was for the fan's. So I came in as a silent partner, and it's worked out so far. I mean every now and then, Power throws me a bone, which I'm sure you'll see at some point during the program...

Turn my back for 10 minutes and somebody's already stealing my thunder...

Seriously though, it'll be interesting to see what somebody else does with the company- I've gone in a very particular direction and it'll be interesting to see where we intersect.

Not so much stealing as perhaps borrowing... Wasn't really sure what I wanted to do when I started, but now that I'm into it, I'm digging the game, hadn't played with FCW before this game.

Slowing the pace was what gave Singh the chance to catch his breath, rolling out into the comforting arms of Carl Batch on almost every offensive turn taken by Jameson. It would only be a matter of time before the use of some under handed tactics would give Singh the advantage he was looking for, and he took it. Using his time to one, berate Jameson, and two, let the fans know just how "sensational" he is, Singh tried to break Jameson down. Then would come the surge of offense that would send Singh on the back burner. Luckily for Singh, he didn't come alone, as Carl Batch would use an inopportune moment of referee incompetence to nail Jameson with a pair of brass knucks, handing Singh the victory.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Franklin Gothic Medium"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Franklin Gothic Medium"> </span></p><div style="text-align:right"><p><span style="font-family:Franklin Gothic Medium"><strong>Segment Rating: 45/100</strong></span></p></div><p></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="27748" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> </p><div style="text-align:center"><span>http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac292/QFresh2/FCW%20Diary%20Pics/ShawnGonzalez.jpg</span><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline"><span style="font-family:Palatino Linotype"><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="color:Red">Shawn Gonzalez</span></span></span></span></strong></p><p> <span style="font-family:Franklin Gothic Medium">There comes a point in the show where the booker, being a performer himself, needs to get his name out there. Puerto Rican Power

Freedom Fighters is finished, it's been getting some great reviews by the critics, which isn't unusual. I had a great match with Mikel, Shawn got over well with his thing, which personally I didn't think was needed, but it worked. But with every show, somebody comes back to you with some kind of complaint, and at that time, it was usually this kid Titan.

http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac292/QFresh2/FCW%20Diary%20Pics/ShawnGonzalez.jpg

Shawn Gonzalez

I liked him, but Power didn't want anything to do with him. He just wasn't willing to earn his keep. He wanted main event, but Power just didn't see it for him. He wanted to wait for him to mature a little bit before he was pushed up....

...There was actually a time when Power was ready to throw in the towel, and just cut the guy loose. It was close to happening too, but then Power decided that he was going to let Joe make some creative decisions seeing as he's got some invested interest in the company. Sure enough, Joe's plan was surrounded around Titan...

Joseph McTaggert

Here's how you know I have no idea what I was doing. I was a fan long before I'd become a partner, and one of the guys that I thought was ready was this Titan guy. Little did I know...

Giving Joseph McTaggert the reigns in a creative position may, or may not have been a good idea. You be the judge, because coming up, we'll be watching The Fight For FREEDOM show help in February. Stay with us...

Will be following this as it looks very promising, the sad thing is I haven't played FCW in 08 or 2010 so I guess I will have to give it a try to see how it goes. I am always looking for reasons to play as different companies so I guess I will have to give a game with FCW a try.

Walking into the month of February, The FREEDOM Three were looking to capitalize on the success of Freedom Fighters. And with The Fight for FREEDOM III, they would take a small step back. Many of critics now would place the blame on Power's decision to allow McTaggert to make some creative decisions, but at the time, with McTaggert's influence in the company still a close guarded secret, many would place the blame on Shawn Gonzalez...

I knew it was a mistake. I didn't agree with it, but what really could I say. And it wasn't like that particular segment would bring the show down that much. At least I didn't think so...

Puerto Rican Power

Considering it was his first shot, I didn't expect anything great, but I definitely didn't expect that. Needless to say, it would be the last time he would have full control on anything creative.

A Handsome Blindside

Nobody expected when Puerto Rican Power entered the building earlier that afternoon that Handsome Stranger would be waiting in the wings for his opportunity to strike. And strike he did. With Power walking towards his dressing room, Stranger would blindside him from behind, and deal out a vicious assault. Stranger would continue his attack until Power was left motionless, and being attended to by backstage medical personnel.

The Sensational Singh w/Carl Batch vs Mainstream Hernandez©

FCW People's Championship

Carl Batch tried to deliver on his promise that Singh would walk out with the People's Championship in whatever way he could. It was almost as if Hernandez was competing in a handicap match rather then defending his title straight up. Every time Mainstream would gain the advantage, and try to retain his gold, Batch would find a way to grab the officials attention, giving Singh to opportunity to continue. But with one interuption too many, this time involving a cheap shot on Hernandez, Batch would get Singh disqualified, giving Hernandez the victory, and a successful title defense.

What I remember most about this match is that whenever the action would get a little stale, Carl would be in there to bring it back up again. The fans really got into the match, and I'm going to say that most of the credit should go the Carl for that.

http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac292/QFresh2/FCW%20Diary%20Pics/CarlBatch.jpg

Carl Batch

The most important job of the manager is to give all the heat to the guy your working for, while still looking good, you know what I'm sayin'. And I think that when I work with Singh, it just works for us. I do the mic work, he does his thing in the ring, and we make magic. But when you've got the guy across the ring that can get the people on their side, and make it look like we're more terrible then we actually is, then that is when its at it's best, you know. And James was one of those guys. I've seen a lot of guys who couldn't do it, and James was on of the few who could.

Matt Hocking vs Carlos Gonzalez

A pretty decent match, with a little bit of crowd involvement, which was as much as you could ask of the fans. Hocking played up his role of the "good guy" by making Gonzalez look much more dangerous then he actually was. And after a couple minutes of dominance from Gonzalez, Hocking pulled out the victory by finding the chance to quickly roll him up for the three count.

The Balance of Power...

Fresh off the conclusion of the previous match, Puerto Rican Power hits the ring, sans music, grabs a microphone, and waits for the PRP chants to simmer before beginning to address the fans.

"Stranger!!! You want to attack me from behind when I least expect it! You try to put me out of action by blindsiding me! Why don't you come and face me like a man, face to face!"

PRP waits in the ring, as the fans cheer for him, and "boo" Stranger. After a few moments waiting for him to arrive, Power continues to speak.

"It's not the same when I'm ready for you, is it! Well you know what, you better run, and you'd better hide, because Stranger... When I find you, I'm going to beat you until they'll need you dental records to identify you. As god as my witness, I... Will... End... You..."

Power drops the mic, leaves the ring, and heads back to the dressing room, with the fans in a frenzy as their national hero leaves the ringside area.

Puerto Rican Power

It had gotten to the point where it didn't matter what I said, I'd get the cheers from the fans. It was interesting to me, so I'd try to make things up just to see how far I'd be able to take it before the crowd would say things like it didn't make sense. It was fun for me, and i think it was fun for the fans too.

El Hijo Del Zonk/Arthur Dexter Bradley/Amo Del Gato vs The Latino Kings

Traditional Lucha Libre 6-Man Tag Match

The last time El Hijo Del Zonk, and A.D.B stepped into the ring as a team, they took it to the limit, add to the mix Amo Del Gato, and it was more of the same, plus a little bit extra. But they were standing across the ring from a trio in firm hold of the FCW Tag Team Championship, The Latino Kings. A match full of crazy spots, and fast paced action, The Kings would use some illegal tactics to keep control of the match. Gallindo would be the one, in the ring with A.D.B who'd be the victim of a mistimed blow from his own partner Jesus Chavez, leaving him open to a poised Zonk, would take the match, and the win for his team.

...Make it Right...

Standing backstage, we see Shawn Gonzalez on screen, holding a microphone. A smattering of cheers in heard as he begins to speak into the camera.

"For a long time now, Hells Bouncer has been terrorizing not only the people in this company, but you people in the crowd, the fans of FCW. Not only that, but he's found somebody that shares his demonic views in Leper Messiah, and together, they've managed to take this place, and turn it into Satan's Playground. It's about time that somebody stand up to these evils."

The fans start to get behind Gonzalez as he speaks, chanting his name.

"So Brad Peverell, and myself have decided that we are going to fight for you, we are going to fight for the freedom of FCW! We are going to make things right..."

The mention of Peverell gets a decent pop from the crowd...

"And we'll fight as long as it takes to make these men stop their conquest of hatred, and deceit. And tonight, when I step in the ring with Hells Bouncer, we take the first step in the fight to end this battle, and I'm going to take that step."

Gonzalez galres into the camera as we head back to the ring for our next match-up.

We're Super Big...We're Super Strong

The camera cuts to The 937lb Express lifting weights in dressing room, making "heavy lift noises", and "Family Guy Strong Man-esque movements" that really didn't sit well with the crowd. they didn't like the segment, and were confused as to why it was taking place. Better still, Kennedy did sell himself as the legitimate big man, while Ox didn't do so well.

Shawn Gonzalez vs Hells Bouncer

In the main event of the evening, Gonzalez met with Bouncer in what could be considered a great brawl to the wall style of match. Mostly back and forth, Gonzalez answered all of Bouncer's attack with equal, if not greater force. But a quick slip on Gonzalez's part, and Bouncer is in complete control.

Bouncer picked apart Gonzalez, using a host of power moves to wear down Gonzalez. but as with most of battles this style, Gonzalez would find a way to fight back. Using the momentum, Gonzalez looked to be on the verge of a clean victory until...

Leper Messiah

...Leper Messiah would hit the ring, causing a disqualification giving Gonzalez the victory. But before the night was through, Messiah, and Bouncer would take the chance to breakdown Gonzalez, leaving him spread eagle in the ring, and the pair standing over him in a pose of overall victory.

Puerto Rican Power

Not using Bradford for this segment was more the fault of Shawn, and maybe a bit of oversight by me, but I think it would've done a better job by having Peverell in the segment.

Shawn Gonzalez

My thought process was that we were saving a bit of money by leaving him out of the segment, meaning we wouldn't need to pay him for an appearance.

...Is that why he did it... Hmm, interesting...

A successful show, yes. A couple of mishaps along the way, maybe. A disgruntled booker, who's to say for sure. But what comes next would be a low point for the promotion, as they'd turn in something they didn't expect... Find out as we continue our Rise to FREEDOM.

With things starting to take their form, and a buzz starting to grow around FCW as to how this small promotion that at the end of 2009 were running poorly produced shows, only to come back in the new year with a far cleaner product, they continued to chug along. FREEDOM in the City would take place on March 12th, 2010 in front of yet another sell out crowd. Only this crowd would not enjoy this particular show as much as the previous, leaving a number of questions to be asked...

We definitely went in the wrong direction when this show came around, and I don't want to point any fingers, but...

I liked the show, I thought it was just as good, if not better then all the other shows I'd seen, and had been apart of. You could blame my lack of knowledge when it comes to the sport, but even still, I quite liked it.

...If he doesn't want to point any fingers, it's because he'd have to point it at himself. And I've told him this too many times to count. You can say that I'm talking $#!+ or whatever, but the facts are the facts.

I should have went with Amo Del Gato's team. I am kicking myself in the butt for that one.

Bradford Peverell/Shawn Gonzalez vs Leper Messiah/Hells Bouncer

I am not that huge of a fan of Leper Messiah, that and that alone is the reason for my pick.

The Latino Kings vs Arthur Dexter Bradley/El Hijo Del Zonk

Despite the fact that they lost on the last show, I am still going to go with the Kings.

Titan vs Amo Del Gato

All though I said it before that I should have picked Amo for the victory in the last show. This time he has no chance what so ever.

Handsome Stranger vs Kirk Jameson

HS has to get the victory because you are building him up to take on PRP.

Bradford Peverell/Shawn Gonzalez vs Leper Messiah/Hells Bouncer

I think all these guys need to stay reasonably strong as they're all towards the top of the card. So some kind of schmozz ending draw/no-contest.

The Latino Kings vs Arthur Dexter Bradley/El Hijo Del Zonk

ADB and Zonk may do well in your tag ranks in the future but I don't see them beating the Latino Kings now.

Titan vs Amo Del Gato

The big lump should take this one.

Handsome Stranger vs Kirk Jameson

It's not Jameson's time yet. Stranger has a bit more mileage at the top of the card.

Be interesting to see what goes down to cause this show to do less well than the last, particularly as Gonzalez seems to think it's PRP's fault and he's not booked at the moment!
