That was a very winnable game against the Knicks last night...but as always, a guard...well, this time, two guards had a field day against us. If that wasn't enough, one of them was freaking (I wish I could use the other F word, I was very frustrated during the 4th yesterday because of him <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />) Brandon Jennings, who became Stephen Curry because our best and basically only perimeter defender is Uncle P, so they were feasting on the threes with Jennings and Courtney. I do love Derrick Rose and loved to see him play that well, I just wish it was against a different team. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> Harden is my frontrunner for runner-up, the frontrunner-up (If that even exists) for MVP, after Westbrook. It might come down to which team gets the higher seed, assuming both make a top 5 seed in the West (Which is what I expect.)</p><p> </p><p> While Harden is proving to be extremely effective as the Steve Nash of the MDA offense, Westbrook has the better narrative, but both have been carrying their teams so well, it will come down to the wire. I'm excited. About Giannis, I'm afraid he won't be in the discussion yet, as I don't see the Bucks being a top 5 seed in the East. Cleveland, Toronto, Charlotte, Boston and Chicago/New York seems like a solid bet for me, in no particular order. If they do make the playoffs, his first playoff series as the legitimate Bucks' superstar will be no short of exciting, that's for sure. However, the race for the bottom seeds will be tight once again. The Bucks do have a legit shot, but Atlanta, Chicago/New York (whichever slips out of the top 5), Orlando, Detroit, Indiana and Washington are all there as well.</p><p> </p><p> I really feel bad about Davis' situation. Jrue's return has helped him a bit, that's true, but is Jrue reliable? Thus far in his NOP tenure he has rarely been in the court. He's terrific when he's there, but when he's not it's basically Davis and a goon squad. About Davis, the guy loves New Orleans, but he needs more, consistent help. You made a defensive C trade proposal, and that was exactly what they were looking for with Asik, but he is basically useless at this point, moves like a senile old man and rarely shows flashes of what could have been. (He did that against us this season as well, but then again, everything went south for us in that game <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/mad.png.69834f23b9a8bf290d98375f56f1c794.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />) They do need to get rid of Asik ASAP, so let's weigh in on your options...Noel's trade value is sinking more and more by the day, because like Jrue, he can't stay in the court either. That's a shame, but I hope it's just bad luck so far. Gortat seems like a better match.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> All good points...the funny thing is, nobody and I mean nobody is even mentioning one obvious choice for MVP and that is LeBron James. Harden and Westbrook are putting up mega numbers but cracks are already starting to show for Russ and the Thunder (Russ is trying to do too much and not trusting in his teammates). The Rockets have been on fire of late and if the Rockets make top 4 in the west (unlikely but possible) then Harden should win MVP. But LeBron is killing it. Averaging a career high in assists, his team is a shoe-in for top seed in the East, and he is still averaging like 24 points a game as well while on cruise control. LeBron has to be my favourite for MVP.</p><p> </p><p> You're right about Noel...his trade value has plummeted due to his health not being where it should be. I do think he can still be a difference maker on a team but I don't think teams will meet Phillys asking price on a trade right now. Gortat would be a great pickup for the Pels if they could figure that out. As much as I have stuck up for Jrue, I'd be ok with them moving him so they can start Tim Frazier...dude is beasting it.</p><p> </p><p> Also, RIP Craig Sager #SagerStrong</p>

Oh he was on the block. Nobody wanted him. He's garbage.

I am a Celtics fan and I found it odd that one of the rumors for getting rid of Isaiah Thomas was because of a chemistry issue. I was always under the impression that he was a good team player. I guess maybe not so much for Cleveland.

I believe that's why he was traded from Sacramento and Phoenix as well. Maybe Boston was just the perfect place for him

Did anyone else just see what the Cavs are doing on the cusp of trade deadline?? A complete restructuring is the answer.... Wow I never seen a mid season shake up like that? Some of these moves are head scratchers.

When Iman Shumpert, Dwyane Wade, Channing Frye, Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and Derrick Rose are all worth less than one whole Kyrie Irving. :p

I kid, they did a business takeover style transition of basically their entire roster. Younger talent in spots they needed them. Its ballsy, but I think they're just sad they are doing so poorly before they even lose LeBron. :p

Just proves that big names don't always correlate to big stats.

<p>LaVar Ball is the gift that keeps on giving. Now he is saying that if the Lakers do not sign his other sons Lonzo will not re-up with the Lakers when he becomes a free agent. I get that this guy wants the best for his sons but he has to have some self awareness...right?</p><p> </p><p>

Not that I care, as a Celtics fan the more crazy stuff that happens to the Lakers the better. I would say the same about the Knicks as well. In fact, the highlight of last season was when Charles Oakley went nuts in the stands and went after James Dolan. That was just beyond awesome.</p>

Then I realised, he's a bit of a marketing genius, so I respected his hustle. This latest stuff where he is speaking on behalf of Lonzo is ridiculous and could genuinely hurt his sons career. Lonzo needs to tell him to back off.</p>

I like how people worry about Lonzo's career more than LaVar does :p

Boy is doing well for himself, charging 200$ for an autograph.

Oh I'm not saying he isn't doing well for himself. Dude is set for life. I guess it just bugs me that a father who says he is out for his son's best interests is probably being quite detrimental to his son and is completely unaware.

LaVar is the male version of a stage mom and his antics might hurt his son or son's down the road. One scenario that is unlikely to happen but might is, what if the owners decide dealing with LaVar is too much of a pain in the ass? They could do what MLB is doing right now and freeze Lonzo out of the market. </p><p> </p><p> Now I highly doubt that will happen but it could as it is happening in baseball's free agent market right now. </p><p> </p><p> Also, just because a player makes a lot of money in the NBA does not mean they are set for life. There have been plenty of cases where players have blown all of their money just a few short years out of the league. I do not believe that will happen to Lonzo because his father seems to have his son's best interests at heart. However, one only has to look at Antoine Walker to see a cautionary tale of how players who thought they were set for life, end up not being so financially secure once they retired.</p>

No expectations will lead to a season like the one they had when Thomas had his breakout year. Dolan should follow the Ranger model (he owns the NY Rangers, and though they haven't won since 1994 (?) they have fielded competitive teams and been fun during that time).</p><p> </p><p> Glad to see LeBron got strung along by Kawhi. Have fun going to the dollar store and getting yourself some players. Karma for the way he treated The Godfather on his way out of Miami.</p>

Homer me says the Lakers. But I have no clue at all. I do think the East is the Bucks' to lose.

Why did you have to put that out there in the universe?:D

As a Celtics fans I do not want to see the Lakers win. Plus I cannot stand LeBron so there is that as well.

I bleed purple and gold for life :D

It's a case of ''big name team introducing foreigner to sport''. No NBA teams in Brazil, Kobe was on the cover of 2K10, I bought it and just fell in love.

Ditto about the Celtics actually winning. But we both have to admit that the league is so much better when both teams are good.

No doubt, I mean it is like baseball when the Dodgers and Yankees are both good at the same time.

Do you have any Eastern Conference teams you like as your sort of backup team?

For me out in the West I like to see the Jazz do well (Mainly due to the fact that I was a big Eric Murdock fan when he played for Providence College and Utah was the team that drafted him. He did not play there long but I quickly became a fan of Stockton and Malone) and I am always happy to see the Spurs in contention (I was a fan of David Robinson and Tim Duncan).

That would be the Nets. I started liking them because my favorite current player (D'Angelo Russell) was traded there, basically banished at the time, and helped their culture improve. Their whole rebuilding process when you consider the position they were in was just amazing. Now that Russell is gone, I'll still cheer for them and their likable remnants, even though Durant and Kyrie aren't model leaders. I will say, I really liked Durant on the Thunder, so the fact that he is on a human team once again does raise his image in my eyes again.

As for Russell, I'll cheer for every team he's a part of, so the Warriors very unexpectedly became my third team. They're looking really fun and are being slept on, in my opinion. But I wouldn't bet on them winning it all.

Also, I'm just now getting immersed on college basketball. I've seen madness games and studied its history, but I hadn't really followed it entirely until now, which was a mistake, as so many good stories come out of there.

I just read that Jerry Sloan passed away. I always considered him one of the most underrated coaches, yes I know how could he have been underrated if he was the fourth winningest coach in NBA history. Well, he never coached a team that won a championship. It does not diminish how great of a coach he was, because he often would get a lot out of talent that was not great, but I feel in other eyes winning championships are all that matter.

First the great Don Shula and now Jerry.

Real fun first three days of the season, good to have some normality after two seasons marred by the pandemic. The 2OT Celtics-Knicks game is one of the greatest regular season games of all time already, the shot making was just absolutely insane. Then you also have Curry going nuts on the Clippers. LaMelo and the Hornets with an unlikely comeback against the Pacers. Bucks blowing out the Nets, then being blown out by the Heat. I only wish my Lakers hadn't blown the opening night game, but we rarely win on opening night anyway :p

Trying to give a boost to the thread, this season is promising to be a lot of fun!
