Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge v. Dean Davis

Billy’s Take: Archie has some skill and could progress into a nice piece of the TWL roster. After all, he’s only 20! Dean Davis, on the other hand, is over-the-hill and lacking in psychology. Archie ended it with his new finisher, Martial Law, a hangman’s neckbreaker, really trying to play up his law and order character. Maybe he’ll bring a gavel to the ring next time. I’ll have to mention that to him…

Chief Two Eagles kicked off the show by signing autographs at ringside, happily posing for some 35-mm photos with fans. At one point the good Chief even placed the feather from his hair on the head of a small child, inciting the section around the youngster to cheer wildly. Rip Chord interrupted the event, tearing an autograph book out of the hands of a young man sitting at ringside (gosh, I hope it was a plant…you never can tell with ol’ Rip!) and telling the Chief that the people didn’t pay to see him kiss their ***es. They came to see Rip kick some ***es. That actually got a decent pop, so Rip went right back into full heel mode, reminding them that the rednecks in west Texas didn’t need Chief Two Eagles kissing their ***es – they had their sisters for that. Ah, you have to love the redneck incest humor. At least Rip didn’t mix metaphors and tell the crowd that he was going to kick the roses and smell their…well, at least he didn’t mix metaphors. The crowd ate this segment up. B-

‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major WG Reginald III v. Rampage w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Pat came down with his manager, Major WG Reginald III, in tow – Reginald carrying Pat’s traditional white towel over his shoulder. Pat is a real class-act in the ring, showcasing his strong amateur background while able to brawl with the best of them. Deacon, like Chief Two Eagles, shook hands with fans at ringside and acted every bit of the “perfect” wrestler he is touted as being. Rampage, on the other hand, is a raging psychopath – inside the ring and out. Surprisingly, Professor Nero stayed at ringside without interjecting himself in the match. He did, however, have a rather demonic smile on his face for most of the 8 minutes this contest went before Deacon landed the Deacon Driver.

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green & Trailer Park Kid) v. Border Runners (Pavel Landis & Carlos Reyes)

Billy’s Take: The team of Mean Mark and the Trailer Park Kid are getting better every time out. The crowd is really behind their no-nonsense style and the Texas Outlaws as a whole. Likewise, they hate the Border Runners, throwing down a ton of racial slurs (what the hell is a Pepper Porker? Oh, right, I get it) as the ‘illegal immigrants’ entered the ring. Before the match, Reyes grabbed a house microphone and threatened to bring the rest of the Reyes clan (all 11 brothers and sisters, 25 cousins, and 53 second-cousins) across the border from Mexico, claiming that the stupid Texans would keep giving them handouts and good paying jobs. The crowd popped when the Outlaws retained their belts after about 10 minutes of brawling as Green and TPK combined on a Nowhere to Run for the pin.

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan and Johnny Boy Tucker came out to the ring and the crowd cheered in appreciation. Krogan grabbed a house mic and in his trademark gravelly voice told Johnny that tonight he wanted to show the crowd just how far his protégé had come and urged Johnny to show off his athleticism. Krogan compared Tucker to the popular new movie character Rocky, even going so far as to call him American Made Johnny Boy Tucker. What a mouthful! Johnny dutifully complied with Krogan’s request for an athletic show, ripping off twenty up-downs without breaking a sweat. I really think that Tucker could be a huge star – apparently the Lariat and the crowd think so too. C+

Chief Two Eagles/Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker v. TimberWolf/Lords of War w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Wow, the Lords of War (Warlord Agony and Warlord Pain) are an impressive young duo (Pain is only 16!) and TimberWolf looks downright scary in his wolf pelt entrance robe. Again, Professor Nero refrained from getting involved in this match, although twice Chief Two Eagles had to jump down from the ring apron to keep Nero from approaching his eagle feather sitting at ringside. Nero’s response? Smiling sadistically and massaging his bald head. Damn, he’s weird. In the end, TimberWolf took the fall, as Chief Two Eagles launched himself off the second rope with a thunderous Tomahawk Chop as the Lariat and Johnny Boy kept the Lords of War at bay.

Austin McCoy v. Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: The sadistic Professor Nero came out first and the crowd booed lustily. They cheered just as wildly when Austin McCoy, the Texas Bad Boy, entered from the back, intensely striding to the ring. McCoy just oozed cool while Nero oozed…well, something else. This was an outright brawl, with very few ‘wrestling’ moves. At one point McCoy did lock in the Triangle Chokehold on Nero, but the Professor managed to simultaneously wheeze and laugh at the application of pressure. A simple flick of his finger toward the backstage area brought Nero’s stooges, the Lords of War, to the ring. The duo hit the ring and attacked McCoy, forcing me to call for the bell.

Austin McCoy d. Professor Nero by DQ

Match Rating: C

Although the bell rang, Nero’s Disciples of Evilness continued their unmitigated attack, setting up McCoy for the War Machine and connecting, snapping the back of the Texas Bad Boy’s head into the mat. Suddenly the rest of the Texas Outlaws, Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman, the Trailer Park Kid, and Mean Mark Green, hit the ring, chasing off the Lords of War and saving their leader from further assault. As McCoy rubbed his neck, he promised vengeance the size of Texas on Nero’s nefarious clan. Attack: C- Save: C

TWL Championship Match: Rip Chord v. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman

Billy’s Take: Bowman remained in the ring, motioning to his fellow Texas Outlaws that they could go to the back and yelling in the house mic that he was ‘f***in’ ready to kick in Rip’s face,’ which grew cheers from the crowd always juiced up for F-Bomb on the mic. Rip, composed as always, sauntered to the ring, ignoring the jeers of the crowd. Rip’s attack was similarly methodical, focusing on Bowman’s neck, while F-Bomb demonstrated his typical crazed dog approach, biting, scratching, and hitting any part of Rip that got too close. Bowman’s frenzy took over, forcing Rip into a corner where F-Bomb executed his patented corner move, punching Rip to the mat and then flicking him double middle fingers before punching him once more in the neck. How can you not like Bowman? But Bowman’s exuberance cost him as he flew at Rip and Chord backdropped him over the top. This should perhaps have drawn a DQ, but Rip pled innocence, claiming that it was only an accident. The change in momentum ended Bowman’s chances as Chord connected with the Rip Chord DDT to end the match.

“Hey Billy,” the dulcet baritone voice belonging to the Lone Star Stampeder echoed down the hall, snapping me out of my ‘doodling-in-the-margins-of-the-notebook’ trance. “Whatchya got there?” “Aw, not much,” I lied, trying to keep Stamepeder from catching a glimpse at my notebook. “Now don’tcha lie to me Billy,” he accused, his blue eyes piercing mine, looking directly into my soul. He excelled at getting his way, even if he was generally an easy-going boss. “Um, ok. Well ya’ see,” I stammered, “its my wrestling notebook. I like to write down what goes on at the shows so that I know what storylines y’all are working on, and stuff so I can be a better ref.” I could feel my ears redden. I’d never told anyone about my notebook, not even my wife. And here I was trying to explain it to my boss. I shuddered involuntarily. “Lemme see.” I knew that keeping it from him would be a losing battle. He flipped through the pages, an occasional “Hmm” passing his lips.“Interestin’ Billy, really interestin’. Now what are these here “Match Ratings?” Do you give them a letter grade?” Tough question, with no really good answer. “Um, kinda. Ya’ see, it takes lots of things into consideration like how big a star the guys are, how much the crowd likes their gimmicks, how over they are in this region, their momentum…” “Their what?” “Momentum takes into account recent segment ratings and matches, morale…” I could tell that the Stampeder was lost. “Just kidding. I make it up.” His eyes lit up. Apparently that made a lot more sense. “Well Billy, this is a downright handy tool, this here notebook. Can you keep doing it and show it to me sometimes?” “Sure boss,” I stammered, “anytime boss!” At that the Lone Star Stampeder adjusted his oversize Stetson and walked away, guffawing and muttering under his breath something about momentum.

Billy’s Take: Kenny Maynard just arrived from Canada where he is supposedly a good youngster with impressive charisma. As for Dean Davis…well, I already gave you my thoughts on him last show. No Holds Barred: Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan d. Rampage w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Krogan is a legend throughout the South. In this No Holds Barred match, Krogan wore his cowboy boots and blue jeans, carrying his trademark bull rope over his shoulder. Rampage, as always, looked psychotic, his white and black facepaint already beginning to smear around his jawline as he incessantly rubbed his neck. Additionally, Professor Nero’s hardcore protégé carried his mentor’s trademark cane into the ring to use as a weapon. In fact, in the match, both wrestlers used the rope and the cane, Rampage bashing Krogan with the cane and Krogan wrapping the rope around Rampage’s throat, nearly choking him out. Surprisingly, in the end, it was a wrestling move that ended it, as Krogan hit the Power Lariat for the win.

Chief Two Eagles
again came out from the backstage area to shake hands and pose for photographs with audience members at ringside. And once again,
Rip Chord
interrupted the pleasantries. This time, ol’ Rip took hold of the house microphone and called Chief “Big Chief Phony” for pandering to the fans, adding some insulting war whoops and performing a mocking Indian dance. Chief knew, Rip declared, that he could not win a match in the middle of the ring, so he had to try to win the hearts of the stupid people instead. Rip promised him that the fans would soon see the Chief for the hypocrite he really was.

Team Texas (Archie ‘the Governor’ Judge/Lone Star Stampeder) v. Double Disaster (Tsunami/Eruption)

Billy’s Take: Double Disaster are a pair of huge Pacific Islander newcomers while Team Texas is universally loved – even when they aren’t in Texas. Double Disaster took early control of this one, using their overwhelming size advantage to isolate Judge. Eventually Judge hit Stampeder with a hot tag, allowing the boss to clear the ring of the heels. But in the end, outside interference turned the tide of the match as the Border Runners, Pavel Landis and Carlos Reyes, ran down to the ring and attacked Team Texas, handing them the win by DQ. The beating continued until Team Texas lay in a heap.

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan

Tucker looked bashful and Krogan called him on it, asking him, in his deep, gravelly voice, what the problem was. Tucker told Krogan he found a girl, introducing

Soon this entire organization will witness the depths of my devotion, the zenith of my zeal, and the fervor of my fanaticism.” Nero giggled disturbingly at his alliteration while Rampage rubbed his neck incessantly, TimberWolf scratched behind his ear, and the Lords of War stood as still as statues, glassy eyes staring intently at their leader. “Tonight the Texas Outlaws will pay tribute to a new regime led by the Disciples of Evilness!”

As if in response,
Austin McCoy, ‘F-Bomb’ Floyd Bowman, Mean Mark Green,
and the
Trailer Park Kid
strode confidently to the ring, forcing the Disciples of Evilness to retreat to the concrete floor. McCoy, dressed in black from the cowboy hat on the top of his head to the boots on his feet, grabbed the microphone first. “Nero, I will never understand what goes on in that damned head of yours. But I can promise this. Me and the Texas Outlaws are gonna kick it out of ya’.” Mean Mark took the microphone from McCoy, making a similar promise to skin the TimberWolf. The Trailer Park Kid, a lit cigarette dangling precariously from his lips, nodded in agreement, flexing the muscles under his white t-shirt. The crowd popped when ‘F-Bomb’ tore the microphone from Mean Mark. “That’s right Disciples of Evilness!” F-Bomb yelled into the mic, “we are the Texas Outlaws and we do only do two things good – we beat the **** out of things and make sweet love to the ladies. And I’ll guaran-f***ing-tee you that after I get done kicking your ******* face in tonight that I’m going to go home and…” McCoy cut ‘F-Bomb’ off before he could continue his point. “Bottom line,” McCoy concluded, “is that Texas just ain’t the place for you and your little freak show. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Lords of War) w/Rampage d. Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd Bowman/Trailer Park Kid) w/Austin McCoy

Billy’s Take:
Nero is a sneaky little bastard. His conniving ways kept the outmatched Disciples in this match by raking at Mean Mark’s eyes, hitting Floyd with a lowblow, and jabbing TPK with his trustycane when the referee dealt with Rampage on the outside. In the end, it was the Disciples taking the surprise win after Rampage clocked the Trailer Park Kid in the back with Nero’s cane, allowing the Lords of War to hit the War Machine on the TPK while an oblivious Mean Mark and Floyd incessantly beat on a laughing Nero on the far side of the ring. After the match, Nero licked his bleeding lip while holding the hands of his partners aloft celebrating their victory.

Billy’s Take:
Pat Deacon is simply an impressive worker, able to mesh well with anyone. Last week it was the insane Rampage and today the animalistic TimberWolf. As always, Reginald carried Deacon’s white towel down to the ring with him, whispering encouraging words and advice to his protégé before the match started. Nero, for his part, played the mentor role quite differently, appearing indifferent to TimberWolf’s pre-match jitteriness. Once the bell rang, Deacon took the upperhand, grounding the high flier and in the end was just too much, ending it with the Deacon Driver for the win.

Rip Chord?

Rip Chord began his career in 1967 with All-American Florida Wrestling, twice winning that promotion's top title. He arrived in the Texas Wrestling League in 1974, almost immediately winning the TWL Title. He is currently in the middle of his second reign, which began in July of 1976. Rip is generally a loner, forming alliances only when necessary. His finisher, the Rip Chord DDT, is widely regarded as one of the finest in the business. Rip plays an exceptionally good heel, despite occassionally mixing metaphors, as he can get under the skin of almost any fan.

Outside the ring, Rip is very close with Floyd Bowman and Austin McCoy. The trio are often seen drinking together, leading some of us in the locker room to wonder how long their bodies will hold up (and how high their alcohol-blood content...yes, alcohol-blood, not blood-alcohol...can possibly go). Rip booked TWL for awhile before stepping aside and letting 'Professor' Mycroft Nero take the reigns. Rip is undoubtedly the brightest star in TWL, so Stampeder lets him get away with quite a bit. So far.

Chief Two Eagles?

Chief Two Eagles is 27 year old main event babyface for TWL. He plays up his Native American background in character, wearing face paint and a single eagle feather in his vest to the ring. Chief is also a talented wrestler, having won the TWL Tag Team titles with both Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan in 1970 and the now-departed Rick Rumble in 1973. He is best known outside Texas for his long-running partnership with The Masked Patriot - known collectively as Team America. The duo held the AAFW tag team titles for an amazing 14 months spanning November 1973 to January 1975.

Chief Two Eagles is very social outside the ring and is popular in the locker room, but has only made one close friend in TWL - the boss, Lone Star Stampeder.

Billy’s Take: The makeshift team of Judge and Maynard just didn’t have a chance. They came out to showcase the awesome power and tenacity of the Lords of War. Fortunately for them, the beating did not last very long and the LoW ended it with the War Machine, snapping the rookie Maynard to the mat with a loud crash on the back of his neck.

Major W.G. Reginald III and ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon came out to the ring, Deacon wearing red trunks and matching boots while Reginald sported his traditional panama hat and carried his client’s white towel. Reginald held the microphone, his voice dripping with southern charm. “Well now, ain’t it nice to be here in Texas,” the crowd cheered approvingly, “the place with the finest ladies, the sweetest bourbon, and the craziest cowboys in the entire world. And there is no one better to represent this fine state than mah client right here, ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon.” Deacon took the microphone from Reginald. “Tonight, Larry Vessey,” Deacon began, “you’ll get a glimpse of perfection.” C+

‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III d. Larry Vessey

Billy’s Take: Vessey could be a good hand here someday, but he is nowhere near the level of Deacon. Deacon dismantled Vessey, beating him pillar to post, and ending the match with a submission hold, the Cobra Clutch, cinching it in for the win.

Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. Border Runners (Pavel Landis/Carlos Reyes)

Billy’s Take: This is a feud that has been going on for what seems like forever. It’s a simple formula. The ‘illegal immigrant’ team of Landis and Reyes constantly remind Judge and Stampeder that they are purposefully taking advantage of the lax American legal system and border patrol, while Team Texas stands for truth, justice, and the American way. This match continued, rather than ended, that feud as the ending came when an unknown Mexican-looking guy (Luis Montero) ran down to the ring and attacked Team Texas. After I rang the bell for the DQ, Carlos Reyes took the house mic and introduced Team Texas to his brother, Luis Reyes. Apparently next week, these teams will have a three-on-three match with Luis joining the Border Patrol and an as-yet-unnamed partner joining Team Texas.

Mean Mark Green/‘F-Bomb’ Floyd Bowman v. Rampage/TimberWolf w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: To the delight of the crowd, Bowman snatched the house mic from Mark Green who was, apparently, trying to hide it. “Listen up ya’ damn dog and painted ****in’ freaking show. This here is F-Bomb’s house. I ****in’ built this ***-damned place and I’ll be ***-damned if y’all are gonna ****in’ beat me in my own ****in’ house!” Green merely shrugged coolly. As always, Nero led his charges to the ring with an air of indifference, Rampage massaging his neck and TimberWolf incessantly scratching behind his (faux) ears. In the ring, this was a brutal contest, with the sadistic Rampage dishing out, and taking, brutal punishment and the high flying TimberWolf attacking from the sky. But in the end, the veteran Texas Outlaws were just too much, hitting the Nowhere to Run for the pinfall win.

No Holds Barred: Professor Nero v. Trailer Park Kid

Billy’s Take: Nero just stayed in the ring after seconding Rampage and TimberWolf in the previous match, propping himself up nonchalantly against a corner post while his charges slunk to the back. Trailer Park Kid came down to the ring wearing, as always, blue jeans and a white shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve. Somewhat miraculously, after flicking his lit cigarette on the floor, TPK actually went several minutes without a smoke. As you would expect from a No Holds Barred match involving Mycroft Nero, the cane was an oft-used weapon. Nero tried to grind the tip into TPK’s eye and smashed him across the back with it on several occasions. For his part, TPK kept getting up and dished out his fair share of punishment, using a ringside chair to fend off the sadistic monster. But in the end, Nero’s sadism overcame TPK’s resolve and the Professor locked on the Descent into Madness, a sleeper variation in which he repeatedly shakes his opponent while cutting off his carotid artery with his forearm, forcing me to call for the bell.

Apparently not content with merely beating the Trailer Park Kid, Professor Nero called to the back for reinforcements. The Lords of War dutifully ran down to the ring, glossy-eyed and unquestioning servants of Nero, and immediately began attacking the prone Trailer Park Kid. Meanwhile, Nero did an odd thing – which is really saying something since almost everything Nero does could be considered odd – slipping down to ringside where the Trailer Park Kid stowed his pack of cigarettes prior to starting the match. Nero glanced at the pack and then snatched them up and began walking to the back with them. B-

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/AustinMcCoy.jpg

Seeing the attack, the Texas Bad Boy Austin McCoy ran down to the ring after the Lords of War and Nero, to keep them from the already-battered body of the Trailer Park Kid. Nero escaped out of the opposite side of the arena, leaving the Lords of War to deal with McCoy and the TPK. Agony and Pain slowly backed away from the irate McCoy who, after checking on TPK, grabbed a microphone and challenged the Lords of War to a match at Cold as Hell against himself and the Trailer Park Kid. TWL Championship Match: Rip Chord © v. Chief Two Eagles

Billy’s Take: The crowd was revved up for this match! The challenger, Chief Two Eagles, came to the ring first, graciously slapping hands with children at ringside and even offering the ceremonial eagle feather from his hair to a boy in a wheelchair seated at ringside. Next out was the champ. Rip’s smirk showed through the crudely drawn warpaint and cheap knock-off war bonnet on top of his head, clearly mocking his competitor. Rip did a little war dance on the way to the ring, stopping about halfway to rub off the paint and throw the war bonnet to the ground. Chief Two Eagles was incensed and took off down the aisle, meeting Chord with a flurry of chops, punches, and kicks. Chord returned the violence and I had a hard time trying to get them inside the ring. Once in the squared circle, the violence continued and it was difficult to control these two men, their hatred obvious. In the end, I took an errant tomahawk chop from Chief Two Eagles (after Rip pulled me in the way) and was knocked out. During this ref bump (so they tell me), Rip plastered Chief with the title belt. By the time I came to, Rip had Chief pinned to the mat, and I dutifully counted 1…2…3.

Rip Chord d. Chief Two Eagles

Match Rating: B

After the match, Rip Chord gave fans at ringside hell, even as they chucked soft drink cups and popcorn boxes at him. He kept pointing at the shiny gold belt adorning his waist, reminding them of his championship. Finally coming to, Chief Two Eagles took hold of the microphone. “Rip,” he gasped, forcing the champ to turn around, “Rip, this is not over. Just as my people never gave up, I never give up. I will hunt you to the ends of the earth until I get my revenge!” B+

“Hey Billy,” Stampeder’s booming voice snapped me out of my daydream as I put the final touches on my write-up for the show. “Whadidya think about the show? I was dumbfounded. Was Stampeder actually asking me for my input? “Ummm,” I stammered, trying to think of something intelligent. And quickly. “I liked Rip and Chief’s match. They work good together.” My God, I sounded like an idiot. “But I think Pat Deacon needs to fight better people,” I blurted out, without thinking. Jeez, what’s worse than sounding like a dolt? Second guessing the boss for one. “Deacon, huh?” Stampeder muttered, “You know, you’re probably right Billy. I’ll think about that one.He walked off, apparently not offended by my comment. 'Perfect' Pat Deacon and Major W.G. Reginald III?

Pat Deacon is a 31 year old main event face and owes his wrestling career to his manager, Major W.G. Reginald III. Deacon toiled for several years in CWB as a jobber, talented but unable to really connect with the crowd. Veteran Bill Reginald took Deacon under his wing and, after ultimately leaving CWB for TWL, watched Deacon's career blossom. Reginald debuted Deacon as 'The Perfect Wrestler,' and led his charge to a 2 year unbeaten streak, winning the TWL title along the way. He has held the belt twice, the first time in November 1973 (defending it twenty-five times before losing in January 1975) and the second in December 1975 (with 10 defenses stretching to July 1976). Both times Rip Chord was the man to take the belt away from Deacon. Will Deacon be the man to dethrone Rip Chord and begin a 3rd reign?

Outside the ring, Deacon and Reginald are equally close, forging a strong bond of friendship. Deacon is also friendly with Wild Man Sullivan, a CWB stalwart who, although on a written contract with Plumelli, is always a possibility to land in Texas.

Pre-Show – No Holds Barred: ‘F-Bomb’ Floyd Bowman v. Rampage w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Simply an opportunity for Bowman to get some time in the ring, checking out how he and Rampage work together. Rampage is the resident psychopath, able (and perhaps too willing) to take a lot of punishment and Bowman is more than happy to dish it out. In the end, it was the Salute ‘n Boot from F-Bomb ending this one.

Rip Chord strode out to the ring, again wearing a mocking rendition of Indian clothing, complete this time with a breechcloth over his wrestling tights. Rip pulled up a chair at ringside and sat down. When Chief Two Eagles came to the ring for his match he slapped hands with fans at ringside until, at their urging, he turned and saw Rip doing a mock war dance at ringside. Billy’s Take: Chief Two Eagles took out his frustrations on Professor Nero’s canine protégé, pounding him from pillar to post. Billy’s Take: Double Disaster are such a huge and intimidating team. I think they caught the Lariat and Perfect Pat off-guard, using their incredibly bulk to batter their veteran opponents. But Krogan and Deacon were just too savvy for the youngsters, tagging in and out and wearing down the bigger men. In the end, a Power Lariat from Krogan nearly beheaded Eruption while a towel-waving Major Reginald cheered as Pat Deacon hit the Perfect Press on Tsunami. Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge and The Lone Star Stampeder came out to the ring for some rare microphone time. “Tonight y’all get to see a good ol’ fashioned American streetfight,” Stampeder drawled. “Those Mexican hombres,” he continued, pronouncing the ‘h’ in hombres, “think they’s can come up here and take our jobs, our money, and our American heritage? Not on my watch. Nuh uh, no siree. So tonight me and the Governor are gonna beat them back south across that border. But we ain’t doin’ it alone. We brought us an ally. Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder/The Executioner (Kenny Maynard) v. Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis (Montero) Reyes/Pavel Landis)

Billy’s Take: The crowd got behind Team Texas, particularly after a well-executed triple dropkick expelled the ‘illegals’ from the ring. But the Border Runners regrouped and, despite the crowd mercilessly booing Pavel’s lackluster ring skills, took control of the match. They constantly cheated to keep Archie in their corner, playing the face-in-peril, as they tagged in and out. But Archie hot-tagged Stampeder, who cleared the ring with his trademarked punches, rearing back and flattening the Runners. In the end, the Runners stole one as The Executioner had Luis up for a bodyslam and Carlos pulled his leg out from under him, allowing Luis to pin The Executioner for the 1…2…3.

Billy’s Take: Professor Nero slowly led his docile, glassy-eyed charges to the ring, whispering something in their ears before the arrival of half of the Texas Outlaws. When McCoy and the Trailer Park Kid entered the arena, the crowd blew up, clearly pleased to see them. TPK sold his injuries suffered at the hands of the Lords of War last show, limping slightly and sporting a wrapped shoulder underneath his white t-shirt. Inside the ring, this was little more than a brawl, all four men full of brutal violence. As McCoy set up Agony for the Texas Tumble (Oklahoma Stampede), Rampage and TimberWolf hit the ring, forcing me to call for the bell and giving the Outlaws the DQ victory. Mean Mark Green took hold of the microphone first, taking a long deep breath before speaking. “Texas Outlaws don’t back down,” he began, oozing cool, “and don’t never give in. Nero, Wolfie, Rampage, and Lords of War…listen closely, cuz I ain’t repeatin’ myself. Next month, right here in the Junkyard, I want to settle this. Just four of y’all against the four of us. Whatchya think Nero? Got the guts or are ya too yella?” As usual, ‘F-Bomb’ Floyd Bowman snatched the microphone from Green, ready to rant. “NERO!” he screamed, spitting all over the house mic, “RAMPAGE! WARLORDS! Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan, Shannon, and ‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker came out to the ring, Tucker preparing for his TWL Title Match. Lariat was in his ear the whole time, giving him advice and occasionally mimicking a particular move to attempt. Shannon stood on his other side, also constantly in his ear, although her banter seemed much more playful (and probably more provocative…at least we all hope). By the time he reached the ring, Tucker looked overwhelmed with advice, having to gently push both advisors away as he slid into the ring. Unsurprisingly, Rip Chord emerged holding a microphone. “American Made Johnny Boy Tucker,” he began, “quite a mouthful. But I get it. You’re trying to define who you are. American Made…must mean your parents made babies in the United States. Good to know.” Tucker looked lived. “Johnny Boy,” he continued, “so obviously your parents lacked the required intelligence to give their child a name that WOULDN’T embarrass him in school. Johnny Boy? That was the best they could do? Really? Well I guess it doesn’t matter anymore because its dust under the bridge.” (Note to Rip, maybe water under the bridge or dust in the wind?) “I’ll tell you what,” Rip switched gears, “I’ll give you the best advice you’ve heard all day. I’ll let you turn around and walk out right now. Think about it Johnny Boy. You’ll get to keep the girl and the grandpa,” he nodded to Krogan and Shannon, “and I keep the title. Win, win. Billy’s Take: Tucker answered Rip by charging headlong into the champion, plowing him over while Rip still wore his championship gold. I hurriedly tried to help the belt off Rip, but it took all my power to hold Tucker at bay. Unfortunately, this was the most cohesion these two achieved in the ring all night, poor chemistry rearing its ugly head. This made the match somewhat formulaic. Tucker whipped Chord all around the ring before Rip turned the tide with a cheap shot, derailing a late comeback with a Rip Chord DDT for the win.

Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan?

Mark Krogan is a legend in the American south, having wrestled since the 1950s on countless shows from Texas to Tennessee. He is now 45 years old, but showing very few signs of slowing up. Perhaps his only nod to aging is his interest in developing the next homegrown southern star. In 1974, he found that project, Johnny Boy Tucker. Since then the duo have been inseperable, holding the AAFW tag team titles from April to November 1976. Despite his great successes, Krogan has never won a major singles title.

Outside the ring, Krogan likes to take long walks on the beach and sip martinis. Nah, not really. As his gruff demeanor suggests, he is much more at home with a hunting rifle, a pack of coon hounds, and a cooler full of Schlitz.

With Dean Davis out the door (you heard it here first!) this was a no-brainer. Somewhat ironically, Dean and Pat clicked, putting on a tremendous opening match. But Dean didn’t really have a chance, and Pat ended it after about 8 minutes with the Perfect Press.

The Lone Star Stampeder v. Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Stampeder came down to the ring passing out little tin stars to kids at ringside. That’s one way to win over the fans! Nero came out to the ring to a chorus of boos, noticeably eyeing the children’s tin stars. He also carried a pack of cigarettes. I can only assume they’re the ones he stole from the Trailer Park Kid. Nero’s an odd one. The match was what you would expect from these two. Nero gouged at Stampeder’s eyes, bit his forehead, and pulled his hair at every opportunity, despite my repeated warnings, while Stampeder used the crowd energy to spur him along. But in the end, the sadistic professor was just too much, ending it with a Descent into Madness (his shaking sleeper finisher). After the match, Nero dropped to the floor and did another odd thing, stealing a tin star from a kid at ringside.

Professor Nero signaled to the back, bringing out Warlord Agony, Warlord Pain, and Rampage.

“Lone…Star…Stampeder…” Nero began in a raspy, high-pitched cackle. “Tonight I took the match. I took your pride. And I took this,” he said, holding up the tin star stolen from the ringside (plant) kid. “I’ve decided that, since your company constantly steals from me, refusing to give me title matches and purposefully keeping my minions from title matches…” conveniently overlooking the fact that his Lords of War had a title matchup, erm, next, “that I will steal from the TWL. Trailer Park Kid? Lost his smokes. Lone Star Stampeder? His little tin star. Who’s next? Who knows?” he continued, wheezing through a sadistic cackle, “No one can stop the incomparable, incontrovertible, and incomprehensible Disciples…of…Evilness.” C

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Mean Mark Green/Trailer Park Kid © v. Lords of War (Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain) w/ Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: For most of the match, it appeared that there would be a title change, as the Lords of War worked together like a well-oiled machine. They tagged quickly in and out and kept the Trailer Park Kid in their corner, with Nero constantly taunting Mean Mark Green. But a hot tag to Mean Mark sent the Lords of War to the floor, escaping the flurry of clotheslines from the Texas Outlaw enforcer. Mean Mark controlled the match until, while setting up for the Outlaw Driver, Professor Nero jumped up on the ring apron and blasted Green with his ever-present cane, forcing the disqualification win for the champs.

Before Nero could call out the Disciples of Evilness, ‘The Texas Bad Boy’ Austin McCoy and Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman ran out to the ring, forcing Nero to beat a hasty retreat with his glassy-eyed Lords of War. McCoy took hold of the microphone first. “Nero, you dog, you better get outta here,” slurring his words slightly. Mean Mark must have noticed, because he immediately took the mic from McCoy, continuing his thought. “That’s right,” he drawled, “Nero it’s a durned good thing you took off outta here. Cuz me and the Outlaws are gunnin’ for ya’. And at High Noon, we get ya’. It’ll just be us Outlaws and you Disciples of Evilness. No surrender, no quarter.” “That’s right!” Bowman screamed, “we’re gonna ****in’ choke you until you ****in’ die you son of a *****. I’m gonna shove my ****in’ boot so far up your ****in’ *** that you’ll be pukin’ up shoe leather for a ***-damned week you *****!” As always, Trailer Park Kid merely nodded in agreement. C

Chief Two Eagles v. Luis Reyes

Billy’s Take: Wow, just wow. I had heard that Luis (Montero) Reyes was good, but this blew me away. He and Chief went back and forth for nearly 15 minutes, trading holds and getting the crowd solidly behind this match. In the end, Chief Two Eagles ended it with the Tomahawk Chop from the second rope, but Luis came out of this looking like a million bucks.

Chief Two Eagles left the ring, talking to some of the children sitting at ringside, particularly the one whose tin star was confiscated earlier in the night by Nero. As he walked down the aisle, Rip Chord walked out from the backstage area. Noticing Chief, Rip broke into a spontaneous war dance, whooping and slapping his hand over his mouth. Chief went after Rip and the two jawed at one another until security and I could break them apart. B-

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan and ‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker came out to the ring, the lovely Shannon in tow. Once again, Krogan and Shannon stood on opposite sides of Tucker, both obviously trying to gain his full attention. And once again, Tucker had to gently push them both away as he entered the ring preparing for the main event, shadow-boxing in one corner. C+<O:p</O:p

Master & Apprentice (Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker) w/Shannon v. Rip Chord/Mystery Partner

Billy’s Take: Krogan and Tucker stood patiently in the ring, Krogan whispering instructions into Tucker’s ear and Shannon obviously annoyed that she was relegated to standing on the floor. Rip Chord took the microphone and announced the arrival of his mystery partner. Suddenly a motor revved and a motorcycle squealed down the center aisle, revealing Mayhem Midden! The leather-clad biker stopped his Harley at ringside and slid into the ring, high-fiving Rip as the crowd booed the SWF star. The match itself was what you would expect, a very hard-hitting and stiff encounter. Tucker played the face-in-peril to a tee, eventually tagging in Krogan to clean house. But in the end, the duo of Rip and Midden were too experienced and savvy as, while Midden and Krogan brawled outside the ring, Rip ducked under a Power Lariat attempt from Tucker and connected with a Rip Chord DDT on Tucker for the win.

Rip Chord, breathing heavily following his match, and Mayhem Midden stood in the center of the ring. Rip asked for, and received, a microphone. “A southern legend,” Rip began, obviously referencing Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan, and his protégé. “Well meet Rip’s protégé, Mayhem Midden, the baddest man on the planet.” Mayhem nodded and cracked his thick knuckles. “Now you boys got the beatin’ you deserved tonight and Rip don’t expect you to want any more. But know this. Rip Chord don’t ride alone anymore. And Rip by himself was unbeatable. What do you think you can possibly do now? That’s right. Not a damned thing.” Rip Chord, apparently tired of speaking in the third person, threw his mic down on the ring floor and walked off, Midden jumping on his bike to follow as the show came to a close. Who are...

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ProfessorNero1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TimberWolf.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Rampage.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/WarlordAgony1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/WarlordPain1977.jpg

The Disciples of Evilness?

Professor Nero is the undisputed leader of the Disciples of Evilness, although he is only 26 years old. Although he weighs just 215 pounds, he is known as the "Intelligent Monster" and is feared throughout the wrestling world for his sadism. He is never without his trademark cane, which he uses to great effect on unsuspecting opponents. Although he has never held a title, he is never far from the main event scene in any promotion. In TWL, Nero doubles as the head booker and is known as one of the truly great minds in all of professional wrestling.

Twenty-seven year old TimberWolf was one of Professor Nero's first Disciples, having donned his now-trademark wolf pelt mask when debuting for TWL in 1972. He often teams with Professor Nero, as the Sadistic Duo, although the two have yet to claim tag team gold.

Rampage is a fairly-recent addition to the Disciples of Evilness. The twenty-seven year old got his start in CWB, but was fired by Gene Plumelli for being an ass backstage. AAFW showed him the door following drama between himself and Alex Pierce over Rampage's ex Miss Bliss. But so far in TWL he has been on his best behavior...at least outside the ring. Inside the ring, he has evolved into TWL's resident No Holds Barred expert, equally adept at taking and dishing out immense amounts of punishment. For some reason, he has recently taken to rubbing incessantly at his painted neck...

The Lords of War (Warlord Agony and Warlord Pain) are Nero's youngest underlings, at ages 19 and 16 respectively. Although both green in the ring, they have a great look and their friendship has translated into a very successful tag team. Big things are expected from these guys and it would be no surprise if they end up the heart and soul of the Disciples of Evilness in the near future.

Still going strong boy; but you've GOT to take out all those :p It's distracting from the read.

Interesting. They didn't show up on my laptop, but did on my cell. I've fixed them (I think...tough to check without constantly refreshing my cell). Any idea what causes them? I usually cut and paste from Word.

As a Texan, and a fan of the 77 CVerse, I approve.

Thanks! Glad you're reading.

Friday, Week 3, March 1977

I don’t normally write in my notebook between events, but this is too much to handle. Austin McCoy is in the hospital. Apparently he took too many pills last night and overdosed. I don’t really have any more information right now, but a bunch of wrestlers are all sitting in the emergency room. Stampeder even let the boys break kayfabe and a couple of heels, notably Mycroft and Rip, are there with Floyd and Stampeder. Not really sure if Austin’ll ever wrestle again, but that’s the furthest thing from any of our minds. Thoughts and prayers are with you Austin!

‘F-Bomb’ Floyd Bowman, Mean Mark Green, and Trailer Park Kid came out to the ring, all looking glum. “I hate to be the one to hafta tell y’all,” Mark began, “but Austin ain’t gonna be around for awhile. He’s in the hospital and doctors say it don’t look good. We hope and pray that Austin’ll be ok, but we can’t make no promises.” Mark handed the microphone to Trailer Park Kid who began to say something and then, apparently choked up, passed it to Bowman. Bowman pulled a stack of notecards out of a vest pocket, clearing his throat. “In honor of Austin’s tragedy, I ain’t cussin’ tonight.” Some people in the crowd booed, apparently unhappy with the kinder, gentler F-Bomb. “Instead, I’d like to read a poem about…” Bowman began, obviously struggling with this transformation. “Awww…**** it. That ain’t what Austin woulda wanted. Austin woulda wanted us to beat someone’s *** and kick the **** out of some ***** mother*******! So that’s what were doin’ tonight! Nero, you and your little ******* are goin’ down!” C+

‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Pavel Landis

Billy’s Take: The crowd was not happy to see Pavel in the ring, and not necessarily because he is a heel. I wonder how long Stampeder can afford to keep him around? I realize that he draws good heat with the ‘illegal immigrant’ angle, but is he necessary now that Luis Reyes is on-board? In any case, Deacon made short work of Landis and forced him to submit to the Cobra Clutch after about 7 minutes. After the match, Major Reginald tossed Deacon his trademark towel. Deacon calmly toweled the sweat from his face and neck before handing the towel back to Reginald, following his manager to the back while slapping hands with children at ringside.

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan, ‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker and Shannon came out to the ring, all looking somber. “Terrible thing,” Krogan began in his gravelly voice as Tucker acrobatically leaped from the floor to the ring apron, landing catlike on the balls of his feet, “Austin being out of action. Horrible thing. But tonight is a night to celebrate what Austin has done for this company, done for wrestling. And tonight that’s what’s gonna happen. Tonight when the Texas Outlaws take out the Disciples of Evilness, I know that Austin will be grinnin’ ear to ear from his hospital bed. Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge and The Lone Star Stampeder came out to the ring. Like Krogan before him, Stampeder reminisced briefly on McCoy’s importance to TWL and the wrestling industry, promising that he’d always have a home in the TWL. Suddenly the Border Runners interrupted the monologue, attacking Judge and Stampeder in the center of the ring. Because they were the next match on the card, I had no choice but to call for the bell, kicking off the following match. D

Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. Border Runners (Luis Reyes/Carlos Reyes)

Billy’s Take: Luis and Carlos work much better together than Pavel Landis and Carlos. Plus this makes more sense storyline-wise as Carlos is importing siblings into Texas to taunt the leniency of the American legal system. Inside the ring, Luis is a revelation, working seamlessly with both Carlos and Team Texas in telling a story. Tonight’s story was cheating heel foreigners against do-gooder Americans. Luis’ antics even incited the crowd to start a ‘U-S-A’ chant. The end came when Judge set up Carlos for the Hangman’s Neckbreaker and Luis threw some kind of powder (was it ground-up chili powder? Really?) in Judge’s face, allowing Luis and Carlos to hit the Double Fence Hop Legdrop for the win.

Chief Two Eagles v. Larry Vessey

Billy’s Take: Stampeder and Mycroft Nero (the head booker, of course) set up this match as a complete squash in favor of Chief Two Eagles. Prior to the match, Chief did his normal ritual, speaking to children at ringside and even handing one of them the traditional eagle feather he always carries with him. Inside the ring, it was all Chief. After about 7 minutes, Chief Two Eagles came off the second rope with the Tomahawk Chop to win the match.

After his match, Chief Two Eagles took the microphone. “Austin McCoy and I did not always see eye-to-eye. We’ve had our tussles in the past and come out about even. But even though we did not always fight on the same team, I could always respect him. Austin, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Get better, friend, so that we can fight on the same side once more!” Unsurprisingly, Rip Chord came out of the backstage area with a microphone and Mayhem Midden in tow. He began an enthusiastic Indian war dance, complete with a toy tomahawk he pulled from behind his back. Chief Two Eagles took off like a shot after Rip, only to be intercepted by the champ’s protégé, Mayhem Midden. Chief and Midden struggled with one another before the two could be separated in time for the next match. C+

Billy’s Take: Let’s see here, charismatic but green youngster hidden under a mask to get some much-needed in-ring experience versus the ass-kicking sidekick of the hottest star in American wrestling? No contest. Midden planted Executioner with his trademark piledriver after about 5 minutes of one-sided wrestling. Squash.

After the match, Rip Chord took a microphone. “Bitch, bitch, bitch, moan, moan, moan. That’s all I’ve heard tonight. Whiny little girls talking about how much they miss their boyfriend Austin. Come on and grow a pair. You wanna know why Austin is in the hospital? Do you? It wasn’t a car accident. No, he didn’t sprain a thumb opening a pickle jar. And no, Austin didn’t slip on that hair grease he keeps his head lubed up with. No, Austin McCoy overdosed. Know what that means kiddies? It means that Uncle Austin is a druggie. And do you know what? Each and every one of you drove him to it. Night in and night out you cheer him. You cheer the Texas Bad Boy. He lived that life because of you. But also because of your enabling, he ended up just like all of you. Worthless.” Rip tossed the microphone down on the ground and walked to the corner of the ring, ready for his upcoming title defense. Wow, it’ll be interesting to get Stampeder’s take on that! C+

Handicap Match: Texas Outlaws (Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/Mean Mark Green/Trailer Park Kid) v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Rampage/Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain)

Billy’s Take: This was a very emotionally-charged match, especially as the Outlaws functioned under a 4-on-3 handicap. Despite this, the trio controlled the early part of the match, each connecting with their trademark moves. Green locked the Rattlesnake Hold on Rampage, only to have the Lords of War break the move, Trailer Park Kid hit a huge body splash onto Nero, and Bowman used his trademark corner punches followed by flipping double birds and a punch to the neck to ground Agony. But in the end, the numbers game caught up to the Outlaws. With Green and TPK setting up Rampage for the Nowhere to Run, Agony distracted me while Pain and Bowman brawled, allowing Nero (as I heard later) to use his cane across the back of TPK. TPK crumpled, and when I turned around, Nero had TPK’s shoulders on the mat for the 1…2…3.

Nero took the young Executioner to school, gouging at his exposed eyes and generally pummeling the youngster. When Nero locked on the Descent into Madness, it ended all doubt as the Executioner was soon out cold. Apparently unsatisfied with his stolen ‘treasures’ (Stampeder’s tin star and Trailer Park Kid’s pack of cigarettes) sitting at ringside, Nero tried to pry off the Executioner’s yellow and black mask. Fortunately, I was able to interject and, despite being tossed halfway across the ring by Nero, keep him otherwise occupied. The match started with Rampage smashing Archie with Nero’s ever present cane across the shoulders, forcing ‘The Governor’ to the mat. Archie did manage some offense (I told him to bring a gavel, but Arch refused to listen!), but refused to take advantage when Rampage was stuck in the ropes, waiting patiently for me to extricate the painted freak. As usual, the Lords of War looked comatose while TimberWolf seemed to have an itch that he just couldn’t scratch. The Outlaws came out to a tremendous ovation, despite not being in Texas. Bowman flipped the crowd his trademarked double birds, which they ate up. Inside the ring, this was a brawl, with the Lords of War working over TPK to start the match before he could tag in the insane Floyd Bowman. F-Bomb went after the Lords of War like a foul-mouthed whirlwind, punching anyone he could see (almost me even…I had to duck). He cornered TimberWolf, forcing him to his knees, where he punched him repeatedly in the neck. Then he stood him up and hit the Salute ‘n Boot, but I didn’t see it as Nero distracted me by jumping on the ring apron. Soon chaos ensued and all 6 men were in the ring. In the confusion, TPK and Bowman clotheslined the Lords of War out of the ring and Mean Mark hit the Outlaw Driver on TimberWolf, pinning him for the 1…2…3.</p><p> <strong>Texas Outlaws d. He began clawing at the Lords of War, his gormless charges standing stock-still. Slowly the Texas Outlaw walked to the ring while Nero and his Disciples of Evilness backed away, equally slowly. Then suddenly, as if a switch flipped inside Nero’s maniacal brain, he stopped the charade of terror and whistled loudly. The duo didn’t disappoint, bringing a brawl-fest to the Junkyard. Back and forth the duo battled, using very few wristlocks or snapmares. Instead there was a lot of punching and kicking, with Midden dishing out most of the punishment. Midden set Tucker up for the piledriver, but amazingly Tucker flipped himself over Midden’s shoulders by his legs and turned it into a sunset flip. As Mayhem Midden and Mark Krogan brawled, Rip picked Johnny Boy Tucker apart, riddling him with 3 successive Rip Chord DDTs before blowing the snot from his nose on the downed youngster. Although not nearly as well-received as his bouts against Chief Two Eagles or ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon, this was nonetheless a very good matchup. Krogan’s overwhelming strength advantage set the tone early, as Reyes struggled to get a move in against the powerful vet. But an eyepoke (how original!) turned the tide, allowing Reyes to ground his larger opponent and lock on a series of painful-looking submission holds. In the end, the veteran Krogan was simply too much, ending the match with a vicious-looking Power Lariat.</p><p> <strong>Mark Krogan d. I hope to God that thing doesn’t come in the ring, because if it does I am outta here. Thankfully the Black Serpent Cult kept their, um, snake in its bag for this one. As with all matches involving the Outlaws, this was a toe-to-toe fist fight. Mean Mark took the early advantage, punishing Viper. But Viper and Cobra were certainly the more cohesive unit, continually isolating the younger Trailer Park Kid from his more veteran partner. It appeared as though the champs would retain after Green hit the Outlaw Driver on Cobra. But Cobra managed to wriggle to the ropes and, as he pulled himself up on them, grabbed my shirt for support. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bright flash of light. Later some people backstage told me that Viper threw a fireball at Trailer Park Kid, apparently as part of their tag team Dragon Breath finisher. As TPK writhed on the ground in pain, Viper slithered over and covered him for the 1…2…3. And we have new TWL Tag Team champions!</p><p> <strong>Black Serpent Cult d. He merely smirked at them and didn’t even flinch when a full cup smashed into the back of his head. Perfect Pat came out next, followed by Major Reginald carrying a white towel. This match was excellent, both men using their superior ring psychology to script a great story – Nero cheating whenever possible, Deacon taking punishment and still reaching down for more, and Major Reginald screaming himself hoarse at ringside. Nero locked Deacon in the Descent into Madness, his shaking sleeperhold, but Deacon reached the ropes. Then he turned the tide and hooked his Cobra Clutch finisher. Nero merely wheezed and smiled as he fought, step by step, to reach the ropes. Then, surprisingly, he did not grab hold of the ropes to break the count, but instead took hold of his cane. Swinging it towards his own head, he ducked out of the way just in time to level Deacon. Blood began flowing from Deacon’s forehead as I called for the bell and the DQ.</p><p> <strong>Pat Deacon d.
