It's the CVerse, I'd have retconned history a bit...

One of the Remus boys would fit in there instead of Richardson rather nicely.

Nero fiddles while Remus burns.

(Or Nero fiddles while Remus burns baby burn... Disco Inferno!) That would get some fantastic heat deep in the heart of Texas.

Great finishing segment ajcrible, although in Texas I think Nero would have to worry about more than an unsheathed knife! I thought you were going to do it Funk-Flair and NOT have the table break. Just a dead Couple of Eagles twitching atop the ringside table.

I know it's just a created Verse but can you imagine how Agony and Pain would feel, "Hello teenaged boys, we're going to do something that will likely get you killed if you ever leave the arena in your wresting gear and facepaint. Ready to invoke your legend and ruin your lives?"

They don't care- they're badasses! They dropped out of high school for this $h!t! :D

But yeah, in the C'Verse being young is no obstacle. Haruki Kudo wins the BHOTWG title when he's 18 or 19, McFly is 20 or so when he first gets SWF gold... When you're great, you're great!

Oh, I'm not doubting their badass credentials. Although, why would they have to drop out of school to wrestle once or twice a month? Not the brightest of Warlords are they?

I meant more, being that age and suddenly being seen as THE EVIL TAG TEAM o' TEXAS. That would be a scary, frightening thing. Remembering back, I remember a friend of mine who broke his neck doing a gymnastic's trick (he recovered) because he was 16 and immortal. So maybe the could do it, because they wouldn't realize what it was they were pulling off. :D

Oh, I think they're still rocking the tech schools. I'd imagine that their attack of Chief would totally give them badass credentials with their fellow grease monkeys. Maybe they'll break into song ala Grease. Same generation, after all!

I would mark so hard for an all musical show.

"Here comes the Agony, here comes the Pain.

Get in their way and they'll kill your brain..."

The evil tag team... of Doc Neeeeeeeeeeeeero

Get in his way, you'll become a Zeeeeeeeeeero!"

Oops, I think I may have derailed the pick process.

Battle Royal:The Executioner/Red Falcon/Mr. Excitement/Viper/Jason Jackson/Tsunami/Warlord Pain/Warlord Agony/Rampage/Machete

- Unless the Executioners are going to masked-swicheroos Jackson is clearly the class of this group. California Screamin' shall ensue.

The Night Rider v. Day-Glo Joe

- My aversion to Dusty Hoff forces me to pick Day-Glo (GI) Joe. Don't ask, don't tell.

Tag Team Titles: Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes) ©

- I'm just not sold on Texas' Team Texas picking up the win, despite the recent fisticuffs.

Battle Royal: Cobra/Executioner II/George DeColt/Giant Grimsley/Captain USA/Floyd Bowman/TimberWolf/Mean Mark Green/Eruption/Professor Nero

- I see no reason to vote against the resident Battle Royale Attraction.

TWL Title: Trailer Park Kid v. Johnny Lawless ©

- Lawless wins when he steals TPK's pack o' ciggies and tosses them into the 14th row. The 14th Row! TPK can't retrieve then AND beat the count. Damn you Johnny Lawless, damn you to... Texas!

I would much rather discuss how to turn a show into a musical (complete with flying car) than look at picks, but figured I'd give a last call for those inclined to try and read my mind...

Picks added.

And dude, flying car? Hell no. Flying pick-up truck! It's Texas, remember.

Got a hunch here

Battle Royal: Cobra/Executioner II/George DeColt/Giant Grimsley/Captain USA/Floyd Bowman/TimberWolf/Mean Mark Green/Eruption/Professor Nero

I was tempted to go Giant G, but after last week's events it has to be Nero.

TWL Settle This Like Men

The Piper Casino (Southwest)

May 1978

Attendance: 217

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TheLoneStarStampeder.jpg

The Lone Star Stampeder came out to the ring, a somber look on his face. “Well, I’m ‘fraid I got some bad news for y’all. Because of the beating he suffered last time at the hands of Professor Nero,” Stampy gritted his teeth as he spat out the name of the nefarious Nero, “Chief Two Eagles won’t be here tonight. Fact is that doctors think he has some internal bleeding and may have fractured a bone in his neck. Frankly I ain’t sure he’ll ever be the same again.” The crowd booed, as much at Nero’s dastardly deeds as with Chief’s prognosis. “But I also got some good news,” Stampy continued, “I’ve decided that TWL is too stacked top-to-bottom to just have two sets of titles. So I’m happy to announce that, starting at Showdown, TWL will have a Six-Man Title! Tonight we’re gonna have two battle royals, with the winners of each becoming the captain of a team to face off for those belts!” C

Battle Royal: The Executioner/Red Falcon/Mr. Excitement/Viper/Jason Jackson/Tsunami/Warlord Pain/Warlord Agony/Rampage/Machete

Billy’s Take: As you would expect, this was a wild match, with each man getting his moment to shine. One particularly gruesome spot saw the Lords of War double-clothesline Machete and apparently break his nose, as blood gushed from his face. Fortunately for Machete, he was dispatched shortly thereafter by the ever-opportunistic Jason Jackson. The final four were Jackson, Viper, Rampage, and Tsunami. Rampage went first, eliminated by Viper. Tsunami and Jackson turned their attention to Viper and together tossed ½ of the Crimson Serpent Cult over the top rope. The crowd buzzed as Jackson and Tsunami circled one another, perhaps hoping that Tsunami would take a shot on Jackson. But instead, Tsunami dutifully clambered over the top rope, purposefully eliminating himself to give Jackson the win.

After winning the match, all of the competitors went backstage, except ‘New School’ Jason Jackson. Jackson took a microphone, once again celebrating as if he’d won the Super Bowl, and was joined by his friend Larry Laffer. “Me winning matches is becoming like a foregone conclusion. First I end the career of ‘The Lariat,’, then I run ‘Imperfect Pat’ out of town, and now I win the battle royal? Screw Giant Grimsley, I’m the real king of the battle royal! Hot damn, I’m good. You know, I’ve been thinking about something lately. Something that’s been bothering me a lot. No, no, no it isn’t any of the wrestlers here in TWL, I’ve already beat all the good ones. No, it’s that damn boxed rice. You know the one, right? Rice-A-Roni? They call it the San Francisco treat. That’s bull. Jason Jackson is the real San Francisco Treat, the true Hollywood Hunk, the only San Diego Sensation. So Rice-A-Roni? Keep California Dreamin’. You’ll never be as good as ‘New School’ Jason Jackson, the undisputed king of the battle royal!” What a freaking egomaniac. He collects nicknames like I used to collect baseball cards! D

Day-Glo Joe v. The Night Rider

Billy’s Take: Day-Glo Joe endeared himself to the fans at ringside by giving day-glo t-shirts to several of the kids. Unfortunately for Joe, the only time he gave anything in this match. He took the rest, and was pummeled by The Night Rider. After about six minutes of brutal punishment, The Night Rider clamped in the Eagle’s Wings submission to pick up the win.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ShannonKelly.jpg

Surprisingly, Shannon emerged from the backstage area, wearing a tight black leather mini skirt, and confidently walked down to the ring. “Turns out Don Juan wasn’t quite as much of a bad boy as I made him out to be. I went down to Mexico with him to meet Mama Reyes. While I was there, I saw all of the Reyes brothers. Now those guys were tough, ‘specially Octavian! But not Don Juan, he is a liar and a cheat, and a wimp besides. So I decided to leave and come back to Texas. And what did I see when I got back? Johnny…Lawless,” her voice dripped like honey at the mention of her ex. “Oooh, Johnny. You’re so…bad…now. I just loooove the little black mask,” she cooed, “and that new attitude? I’ll be honest Johnny. I want you back. Why don’t you take me back Johnny and I can show you how much I adoooore bad boys! I’ll be waiting…” C

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

Billy’s Take: In their previous encounters, the Border Runners controlled most of the match, stymied only by the teamwork of Team Texas. This one was no different with Luis Reyes, in particular, dominating the match when he faced off against Archie or Stampy. But when Carlos wrestled, Team Texas took advantage. It was during one such exchange that Carlos underestimated the quickness of the Lone Star Stampeder and fell prey to the Texas Tumble. Archie Judge leapt across the ring and performed a single-leg takedown on Luis while I counted one…two…three. We have new champions!

The Trailer Park Kid came out to the ring as the competitors in the next battle royal prepared for the match. Trailer Park Kid apparently wanted answers from Mean Mark Green, as he angrily confronted him. Even from inside the ring, I could hear the Kid asking him why he’d just walked away and left him hanging. Mean Mark Green absolutely ignored the Kid, intently preparing for his match as the Trailer Park Kid lit a cigarette and stormed to the back. C-

Battle Royal: Cobra/Executioner II/George DeColt/Giant Grimsley/Captain USA/Floyd Bowman/TimberWolf/Mean Mark Green/Eruption/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: This battle royal was even more hard-hitting than the first. When Professor Nero came out, I was sure he was going to be lynched. Fortunately, for him, George DeColt followed Nero to the ring and accosted the nefarious Professor, causing the crowd to erupt in cheers. Inside the ring, there were several notable exchanges. Cobra seemed hell-bent on survival and allowed the other competitors to fight while he laid in wait like a, um, snake in the grass. Meanwhile, Giant Grimsley threw meaty forearms at anyone in his path, knocking TimberWolf clean out of the ring with one blow. Eruption followed shortly thereafter, bringing the winner of the first battle royal, Jason Jackson, to the ring. With the match pared to the final four (Grimsley, Cobra, DeColt, and Nero) Jackson jumped up on the ring apron. Giant Grimsley roared and went after Jackson. At the last moment, Jackson dropped to the floor and Grimsley’s momentum sent him teetering on the top rope. Professor Nero, seeing an opportunity, came behind Grimsley and dumped the Giant over the top. That left Nero, DeColt, and Cobra. Nero and DeColt brawled while Cobra lay back. In the end, DeColt and Nero pushed one another to the ropes, struggling for an advantage. Cobra snuck up from behind and tossed both out to win the battle royal.

Cobra won the battle royal for the shot at the 6-man titles

‘New School’ Jason Jackson stood gloating by ringside, pointing and laughing at Giant Grimsley, who he’d eliminated from the match. Jackson then pointed to himself, indicating that he, and not the Giant, was the real king of the battle royal. Giant Grimsley stood stone-faced, staring holes through Jackson. Then, with a quickness you wouldn’t expect from a 7-foot tall, 400 pound man, Grimsley snatched Jackson’s neck and began to squeeze. Jackson turned red and then purple as Double Disaster ran to the ring. Eruption and Tsunami tried to pry Grimsley off and eventually forced Grimsley to break the hold. The Giant turned his attention to the powerful Samoan duo and attacked them, a huge swipe from one paw-like hand knocked down Eruption while the other arm lashed out and grabbed Tsunami by the throat. Jackson kicked at Grimsley, but his feeble effort seemed to just anger the monster. Eventually, with both members of Double Disaster sprawled on the floor, Grimsley turned his full attention back to Jackson. Jackson fled backstage, the Giant just steps behind as the crowd roared its approval. C+

TWL Title Match: Trailer Park Kid w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Johnny Lawless ©

Billy’s Take: Trailer Park Kid came down first with Major Reginald in tow. As per normal, the Kid smoked a cigarette while Major waved a white towel over his head. Lawless came out next and the crowd booed his arrival. Lawless flipped them the bird and kept walking, jawing at fans at ringside. Inside the ring, this was a very back-and-forth with both Lawless and the Kid showing flashes of brilliance. The Kid actually had the early upper-hand and the crowd embraced him, setting off a ‘Let’s go Kid’ chant. A thumb to the eye from Lawless ended that momentum, however, and the champ regained control. In the end, despite an attempted Double Wide Dive from the Kid, Lawless hit a Power Lariat to pick up the win and retain his title.

3/5. Can't believe that, despite your hatred of Dusty Hoff, that you went with a guy who hands out brightly-colored t-shirts before his matches. He's about a half-step away from being a Dynamic Dude.

ajcrible hates me. Haaaaaaaaaaates me. I should have received a majestic 2/5. Why does he always screw me over? He's goading me into a heel turn, I can tell!

Fun write-up. Nice way to eliminate Grimsley in a way that keeps him looking dangerous. And that render of Day-Glo Joe isn't nearly Glo-y enough for me.

Edit: Wait, the first time it was Stennick over in California Dreamin' that cost me a point. It must be That 70s Mod that hates me.

You were right. I do hate you. Nah, I just can't add. Some days 1+1 does not equal 2.

I would certainly include an alt or reimagination of Day-Glo Joe with a more "Glo-y" shirt. Codey did an awesome job putting one together for me, but I'm always willing to check out other options.

TWL Six-Man Championships? What for? The TWL Texas Brass Knuckles Championship (Hardcore) would have been better. Or heck, a TWL Pure Championship (Pure Wrestling) would be sweet. Or even a TWL Luchadore Championship (luchadores, cruiserweights, etc...)!:D

You know, I kicked around using a Brass Knuckles title. But I was so enamored by the 6-man belts in the old WCCW and, since this diary is strongly influenced by that promotion, felt like a 6-man title made sense here. I've already unintentionally formed several three person groups (Outlaws, Jackson and Double Disaster, Nero and the Lords of War, The Executioners) that a 6-man belt works in my mind. We'll see. It may go the way of James Casey's Trios Titles in 10 Simple Rules and be replaced by an All-Asian Tag Title, or a Texas Title, or something entirely different. Or the 6-man belts may become the top titles in the promotion (they're a floating title). In any case, thanks for the input!

Who Is...

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/GiantGrimsley.jpg

Giant Grimsley?

Ethan "Giant" Grimsley is a seven-foot tall, four-hundred pound monster. He came to wrestling relatively late - he was already 28 when he debuted in AAFW. He battled nagging injuries for the first few years in his career, but seemed to turn a corner in 1976 when Dick the Devastator paired Grimsley with fellow giant Mighty Thor. The Mighty Giants are now three-time tag champs in AAFW, while Grimsley also holds the APWF Tri State belt.

Grimsley's most important relationship in wrestling is with former TWL champion Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan. While in AAFW, the two developed a close friendship (despite the fact that Grimsley couldn't fit in Krogan's subcompact Volvo) and Krogan was apparently instrumental in bringing Grimsley to Texas.

TWL's first card of June, entitled TWL This Means War, is shaping up to be quite a night of wrestling. Here are the advertised matches:

Tag Team Title Match: Team Texas (Archie Judge/Lone Star Stampeder) © v. Carlos Reyes/Octavian Reyes

Team Texas just won the tag belts from Carlos and Luis Reyes. Apparently Carlos is bringing another Reyes to Texas. Will the new Border Runners regain the belts or will Team Texas prove victorious?

Captain USA v. The Night Rider

The crowd-favorite Captain against the leather-clad biker.

Giant Grimsley v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

Can Grimsley shut Jackson up or will New School provide another laundry list of nicknames after slaying the Giant?

Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Cobra won the right to lead a team in the upcoming six-man title match. We're assuming he's chosen Viper. Who will be the third member?

The Executioners v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman/Johnny Lawless

The Texas Outlaws seek to eliminate any vestiges of Mark Krogan's legacy by taking out the masked Executioners.

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. Professor Nero

The first-ever match between the Canadian superstar and Texas' resident intelligent monster.

Quick Picks:

Tag Team Title Match: Team Texas (Archie Judge/Lone Star Stampeder) © v. Carlos Reyes/Octavian Reyes

Captain USA v. The Night Rider

Giant Grimsley v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

I disagree. I love the 6-Man titles. The Hardcore title would be sweet, but I would be in favor of the Luchador belt more. Bring in some OLLIE guys, and name their title the TexMex Championship.

6-man titles should be fun. Put me down as a convert

We need at least some faces doing well

Captain USA v. The Night Rider

Poor cap

Giant Grimsley v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

I presume the Giant is on a short-term deal...

Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

momentum build for the Samoans in preperation for 6-man tilt

The Executioners v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman/Johnny Lawless

The champ isnt getting bat by masked jobbers

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. Professor Nero

Has to be a draw here I think. Im expecting a certain someone to make a stunning comeback leading to an abandoned match...

That's fair. :D Just make the next title a Brass Knuckles one and we have no problems.

Though this could go either way...maybe with Jackson building his rep some, I don't think Grimsley will fall this time.

This should be an excellent match, I kinda want Nero to come out, but its hard to root against DeColt and Krogan....
