Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

The Masked Patriot v. Sheik Mustafa

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

2/4. Glad I could trip you up on a few of these.

Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski

Poor Grim. Hes the least imposing Giant ever

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

Hot new team prevents young guns getting too big for their boots

The Masked Patriot v. Sheik Mustafa

double DQ with lots of shenanigans I think. Why waste Patriot/Sheik here otherwise?

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

I think New School is heading for pastures new. Or you're jobbing him donw

1/4. You picked the opener correctly and yes, Grim is kind of an unimposing Giant. I've tried to keep him relatively strong by not having him often lose clean, but I'm not sure that it has worked. I understand the rationale for throwing out Patriot/Sheik, but I think the feud can continue despite a clean win for the face.

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

The Masked Patriot v. Sheik Mustafa

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

3/4. Nice work Jingo!

Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski

- Grimsley seems to just stand there, he has no story right now. Comrade has his anti-American schtick to run with. Makes sense to make the Commie Threat look dangerous by toppling the giant.

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

- Double DQ/Count-out/Brawl out the ring and arena and into the streets of Dallas (or wherever TWL is based.)

The Masked Patriot v. Sheik Mustafa

- Mustafa the mouthpiece gets some Red, White and Blue beating.

'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

- New School bounces back, since as you've said, DeColt could be bound for Canada or SWF at any moment. Might as well make New School look lethal if DeColt leaves. Or just lets the heel steal an early edge in the feud.

4/4. Plus your arguments were pretty spot-on. I need to throw a curveball at some point...

I was only 3/4, since I thought the New Zealand Big Game Hunters would draw with the Demons of Rage. So clearly I get you style, but I don't always get things right. Like the last super show.

DeColt is gone obviously, hence the freebie on TV. He served TWL well though, and helped make New School that much schoolier. :D

From the Notebook of Referee Billy

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/TWL.jpg

The last TWL show of 1978 (the televised Texas Wrestling program) promises to end the year with a bang! Here are the matches announced so far:

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Sadistic Duo (Professor Nero/TimberWolf)

Last show, Professor Nero's interference cost the Game Hunters. This time, they want their revenge on the leader of the Disciples of Evilness.

TWL Six-Man Title Match: Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double Wide' Wylde/Trailer Park Kid) v. West Coast Warriors ('New School' Jason Jackson/Eruption/Tsunami) ©

The West Coast Warriors recently regained their six-man titles. How will they fare against the up-and-coming Team Texas?

Luis Montero v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

Montero is widely regarded as one of the best young prospects in professional wrestling today. But will he realize his potential in this match or will F-Bomb beat the everliving **** out of the youngster?

TWL Title Match: Chief Two Eagles © v. 'The Mayne Event' Kenny Maynard

Chief Two Eagles has promised to be a fighting champion. Will he retain his belt in this, his first defense, or will the 'Mayne Event' upset the proud Indian champ?

Quick Picks:

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Sadistic Duo (Professor Nero/TimberWolf)

TWL Six-Man Title Match: Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double Wide' Wylde/Trailer Park Kid) v. West Coast Warriors ('New School' Jason Jackson/Eruption/Tsunami) ©

Luis Montero v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) v. Sadistic Duo (Professor Nero/TimberWolf)

- NZGH need to look dangerous, although the tag team situation in TWL is very strong. TimidWolf continues his jobby ways.

TWL Six-Man Title Match: Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double Wide' Wylde/Trailer Park Kid) v. West Coast Warriors ('New School' Jason Jackson/Eruption/Tsunami) ©

- The New School of the Coast continues to run amok in the midcard.

Luis Montero v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

- I think Montero is the better wrestler but F-Bomb somehow wins this by hook or by crook of by F-BOMB! Plus it will let him have a one-off fight against the champ.

TWL Title Match: Chief Two Eagles © v. 'The Mayne Event' Kenny Maynard

- No way is this being hot-shotted to the Maynard Event. Even if the Chief is bolting for SWF or somewhere, Maynard isn't ready for the title.

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>New Zealand Game Hunters v. The Sadistic Duo (Professor Nero/TimberWolf)</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Just as Stampy predicted, this was a hard-hitting match. Vandemar is animalistic in the ring, showing little regard for either himself or his opponent. He and TimberWolf had quite a brawl, tearing and ripping at one another. But once Nero was tagged in, this changed – the Professor displaying a more calculated approach to deal with Vandemar’s exuberance. Likewise, Croup used his brains more than his partner, making this an interesting contrast in styles. In the end, Nero must’ve decided that his team required some assistance as he signaled to the back, bringing out <strong>Demon Anger </strong>and <strong>Demon Spite</strong>. The Demons of Rage slid in and jumped the Game Hunters, forcing me to call for the bell to disqualify the Sadistic Duo. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Team Texas –<strong>Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge</strong>, <strong>Dave ‘Double Wide’ Wylde</strong>, and the <strong>Trailer Park Kid </strong>– came out to the ring, preparing for their six-man title match. The Trailer Park Kid flicked a lit cigarette from his mouth onto the concrete floor, put it out with his boot, and took the microphone. <span style="color:#0000FF;">“Tonight y’all, we got somethin’ special for ya’. We seen what a cheerleader can do for a team like the Cowboys,” </span>the crowd cheered, <span style="color:#0000FF;">“so we’re bringin’ one of our own to TWL. <em>Billy’s Take</em>: Jason Jackson seemed somewhat distracted by the presence of the busty Debbie Dallas at ringside. Fortunately for him, his Samoan partners picked up the slack, pummeling the much smaller duo of Wylde and Judge. When the Trailer Park Kid entered the ring, however, he took it to both Eruption and Tsunami, really setting himself apart. He and Wylde connected on a Double Wide Dive on a still-distracted Jackson, but Eruption and Tsunami came in to break the count. Suddenly, <strong>Cheatin’ Mike Barstow</strong> sauntered down to the ring. His mere presence at ringside distracted Team Texas – and particularly the Trailer Park Kid. As I hollered at Barstow to leave, Eruption and Tsunami connected with their Tidal Wave finisher on Dave Wylde. The always-opportunistic Jason Jackson quickly tagged himself in and locked in the California Dream while Double Disaster kept Trailer Park Kid and Archie Judge at bay, allowing Jackson to pick up the win. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#008000;">“Looks that way, don’t it Lawrence? Anyways, our next match features two of Texas’ top talents, Luis Montero and Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman. Let’s go down to the ring!” </span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Bowman took the microphone before entering the ring and let out an expletive-laced diatribe. Censors beeped out much of his speech, but I believe he said something about shoving his boot somewhere and doing naughty things to Mrs. Bowman. Really hard to tell with Floyd. This was an excellent little match, both men going back and forth and Floyd at least somewhat making up for his bomb of a match against Chief Two Eagles a couple of weeks back. Floyd hit all his signature spots, kicking Montero into the corner and flipping him a double bird before punching him in the throat and using a clothesline to nearly decapitate his opponent. Montero responded with an athletic repertoire, hitting a huge dropkick that sent Floyd to the floor and a top rope bodysplash that nearly netted a three count. In the end, Floyd went for a Salute ‘n Boot, but Montero managed to evade the move. Montero bodyslammed Bowman and then went to the top rope, where he connected with a kneedrop on Floyd to pick up the win. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>TWL Title Match: Chief Two Eagles © v. ‘The Mayne Event’ Kenny Maynard</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Maynard came out first, slapping hands with fans. But when Two Eagles came out, the place erupted. Chief strode to the ring, handing an eagle feather from his resplendent headdress to a young fan sitting at ringside. He and Maynard shook hands before this one, clearly this was to be a friendly contest. Maynard looked very strong here – probably as good as he’s appeared since joining TWL. But his inexperience showed through as Chief Two Eagles slipped out of an attempted running powerslam and climbed to the second rope, connecting with a Tomahawk Chop for the win. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>After the match, the Texas Outlaws – <strong>Johnny Lawless, Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman, and Mean Mark Green </strong>– ran down to the ring. The trio jumped the unsuspecting <strong>Chief Two Eagles</strong> and began attacking the champion. Lawless slid outside the ring and grabbed the TWL championship, bringing it into the squared circle to bludgeon Two Eagles. <strong>Luis Montero </strong>ran down to the ring and, together with a still-groggy <strong>Kenny Maynard</strong>, was able to chase off the Outlaws, calling for medical assistance for the fallen Chief Two Eagles as the Outlaws stood, arms raised as if in victory. <strong>B</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<p><strong>All American Florida Wrestling (AAFW)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Dick the Devastator</p><p>

Booker: Big Al Wallace</p><p>

Size: Cult</p><p>

Prestige: C+</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 4</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Dick the Devastator, Kenzo Isozaki, Saionji Omura, The Brooklyn Punk</p><p>

Future Stars: The Brooklyn Punk, Alex Pierce</p><p>

History: In early 1978, AAFW had Crippler Ray Kingman and the Boston Bomber as foils for Dick the Devastator. Now that both have moved to SWF, Kenzo Isozaki and Jimmy Power have become the top heels – though they recently had a match against one another at Deuces are Wild. </p><p>

Outlook: The biggest problem with AAFW is their reluctance to move out of the South East. They are incredibly (B-) popular there, but their next most important region is the Great Lakes, where they are only marginally well-known (D). So long as Dick the Devastator draws breath they will be a strong organization. But if Isozaki, Omura, or the Punk leave them, they could struggle to find quality opponents for their champion!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>American Independent Circuit Wrestling (AICW)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Dale Christian</p><p>

Booker: Nathan Crosby</p><p>

Size: Small</p><p>

Prestige: D-</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 5</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Cherokee Hawk, El Tricolor, Octavian Vandiver, Walter Crowe</p><p>

Future Stars: The Rev, Vincent Childress</p><p>

History: Unsurprisingly, Dale Christian has done little to alter his formula. Workers come and workers go. Somewhat surprisingly, their core has aged – no longer do they focus on young up-and-comers…instead, their roster is populated by marginally-talented mid-career workers. TWL wrestlers are often found on this show, though usually in a far different capacity. For instance, TWL tag specialists Pain and Croup each held the top belt for much of 1978 before Pain dropped it to Walter Crowe before leaving the promotion to focus on his TWL career. </p><p>

Outlook: Slow and steady. This company probably won’t bankrupt, but neither will it be more than a place to pick up an occasional paycheck.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>American Pro Wrestling Federation (APWF)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Terry Lambert</p><p>

Booker: Terry Lambert</p><p>

Size: Regional</p><p>

Prestige: D+</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 3</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Chief Two Eagles, Giant Grimsley, Identity Black, Terry Lambert, Brooklyn Punk</p><p>

Future Stars: Jason Jackson, Johnny Boy Tucker, Lee Wright</p><p>

History: The company has stayed relatively intact in the past year, losing only Brutus McBride and Sam Stragavelli to the SWF. Despite this, their top title has been hot-potatoed from Stragavelli to McBride to the Brooklyn Punk to Identity Black to Terry Lambert to Chief Two Eagles. The organization’s best-ever match took place in October when Terry Lambert went over the Masked Patriot (displacing the duo’s match in February – the previous top contest). </p><p>

Outlook: Unlike AAFW, APWF seems poised for a run at ‘National’ status, building several regions at once rather than relying on the Tri State area alone. That being said, any company depending on Terry Lambert and his cronies could face problems sooner than later. One cause for concern is that none of their top-ten events has taken place since February. And their tag-division sucks – outside of their top team (New York’s Finest – with C- experience), the Pain Killers (The Mad Hungarian and Johnny Boy Tucker) are their best duo with just a handful of matches under their belts. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>California Pro Wrestling (CPW)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Preston Holt</p><p>

Booker: Preston Holt</p><p>

Size: Cult</p><p>

Prestige: C</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 2</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Preston Holt, Edmond Jackson, the Night Rider, Kenzo Isozaki</p><p>

Future Stars: Charlie Homicide, Leon Williams</p><p>

History: CPW is a mirror-image of AAFW – relying heavily on their owner to put on top matches night after night (Preston Holt is in each of the promotion’s top ten matches). Although Kenzo Isozaki is the current CPW Champion, it is only a matter of time until Holt regains the top spot (for the fourth time). With only one established team (Los Alturas Asombrosas), the tag belts have been hot-shotted among several thrown-together teams, usually to forward feuds. </p><p>

Outlook: They are the clear #2 promotion in the United States, building strong bases in the South West and North West (both C) and even expanding into the MidSouth and Midwest (D+ and D, respectively). They seem to be the only legitimate contenders to SWF’s dominance, as their top workers are much more popular in the western part of the country than in SWF-land and are, therefore, less susceptible to being stolen. But should anything happen to Preston Holt…</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Canadian Wrestling Federation (CWF)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Ed Henson</p><p>

Booker: Dan Stone</p><p>

Size: National (#4 in the world)</p><p>

Prestige: B</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Jackson Andrews (as the Canadian Superstar), Dan Stone, Frenchie Marcel, George Decolt, Jean-Pierre Baptiste, Whipper Spencer Marks</p><p>

Future Stars: Dark Demon, Kenny Maynard, Red Falcon, </p><p>

History: CWF is the undisputed King of Canada – ranking in at a B- throughout much of the country. They have both a solid tag and main event scene –six tag teams have ‘A’ experience, led by the Calgary Wolverines and Frenchie/Jean-Pierre. The CWF National title, the organization’s top singles belt, currently resides with Jean-Pierre Baptiste (the 1978 Wrestler of the Year), though George DeColt, the Canadian Superstar, Dan Stone, and Wooly Steppe have all held the belt in the past. </p><p>

Outlook: One potential weakness is the age of their main eventers. Of the six top wrestlers, all are at least 34 years old, with no one really poised to fill the void should they leave. But really, they are poised for a run at SWF and, should the United States promotion stumble, would be in a prime position to overtake Supreme for the top slot in North America. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Championship Wrestling from Boston (CWB)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Joey Margarita</p><p>

Booker: The Tijuana Hustler</p><p>

Size: Regional</p><p>

Prestige: D-</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 7</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Identity Black, Othello Dawson, The Mad Hungarian, The Masked Patriot</p><p>

Future Stars: Flapjack Flanagan, The Stomper</p><p>

History: Since Wild Man Sullivan and the Boston Bomber left the promotion in 1978 (and Gene Plumelli and 10 Punch Buck Winslow retired), CWB has been in a downward spiral. Apparently trying to tap into Boston’s Latino population(!?!?!?), Joey Margarita bought out Plumelli and brought in the Tijuana Hustler to book the promotion. Othello Dawson is a less-than-ideal champion, particularly since he is the only man not named Bomber or Sullivan to hold the belt in almost five years – and pales by comparison. </p><p>

Outlook: Grim. With no well-defined ‘face of an organization’, CWB seems destined to flounder. SWF cherry-picked their roster and left CWB with a collection of over-the-hill punchers. Odds are that they don’t reach the 1980s. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Harlem Wrestling Alliance (HWA)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Mr. G</p><p>

Booker: Disco Stu </p><p>

Size: Small</p><p>

Prestige: E-</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 9 (yes, they’re at the bottom)</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Jack Beck, Jason Jackson, Luis Montero, Mr. G, Pavel Landis</p><p>

Future Stars: Jason Jackson, Luis Montero, Kenny Maynard</p><p>

History: Mr. G turned over a new leaf in 1978, focusing on attracting actual wrestlers to HWA. He brought in Luis Montero and Jason Jackson, along with CWF stalwart Red Falcon, to put on some really top-notch matches late in the year. In fact, their four highest-rated matches of all time were the main events of their final four shows of 1978, topped by a Red Falcon/Luis Montero contest that went over twenty minutes. No word yet whether Mr. G had to keep Lucky Jiggles’ girls on stand-by during the match in case the crowd rioted due to a decided lack of cleavage or hot wings. </p><p>

Outlook: Surprisingly good. The top of their roster is young and talented while the bottom is filled with gimmicks their fans love. We could either see a unique blending that revolutionizes the wrestling world or a hot wing sauce-covered stripper riot. So really, it’s a win-win. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Supreme Wrestling Federation (SWF)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Richard Eisen</p><p>

Booker: Rocky Streets</p><p>

Size: International</p><p>

Prestige: A</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA): 1</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Corporal Doom, Hagar Erikson, Marcus McKing, Micky Starr, Pat Deacon, Rip Chord, Rocky Streets</p><p>

Future Stars: Corporal Doom, Richie Pangrazzio Jr., Marcus McKing, Rip Chord, Sam Strong, Sid Streets, Crippler Ray Kingman</p><p>

History: Corporal Doom made wrestling history when, at the tender age of 21, he defeated Hagar Erikson for the SWF title, becoming just the third champion in the promotion’s seven year history. Although he only took place in one of SWF’s top ten matches of the past two years, he headlined several of the promotion’s top shows. Additionally, Richard Eisen has demonstrated the ability to use his immense resources, signing McKing, Deacon, Chord, Strong, The Boston Bomber, Brutus McBride, Warlord Agony, Mark Krogan, and Crippler Ray Kingman to long-term written deals. </p><p>

Outlook: The SWF has an embarrassment of riches. Not only do they have an incredibly deep roster, but most of their main eventers are just hitting their prime. They only have six regular tag teams, but all boast A* experience. Really there are no weaknesses here. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Texas Wrestling League (TWL)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Lone Star Stampeder</p><p>

Booker: Professor Nero and Billy Barrowman</p><p>

Size: Regional </p><p>

Prestige: D+</p><p>

Importance Rank (in USA):6</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Chief Two Eagles, Professor Nero, Johnny Lawless</p><p>

Future Stars: Jason Jackson, Luis Montero, Kenny Maynard, Pain</p><p>

History: TWL had a rocky year, losing several top stars to SWF (most notably Rip Chord, Pat Deacon, Warlord Agony, Sam Stravegelli and Mark Krogan) but scoring a television deal in December that may just be enough for the promotion to expand beyond its Texas roots. Mark Krogan held the top belt for the early part of 1978 before retiring, leaving a tournament won by Lawless to decide the new champion. Additionally, a bitter feud between Chief Two Eagles and Professor Nero raged for much of the year. </p><p>

Outlook: Cloudy. The television deal could be either the first step toward a nationally-significant TWL or the first nail in their coffin. Whether or not they can expand out of their Midsouth comfort zone will ultimately tell the tale of the TWL. They have a strong, loyal core of wrestlers who have repeatedly turned down the advances of SWF, but should Chief Two Eagles and Professor Nero – for example – head north, this organization could be in real trouble. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Welcome to the Islands Wrestling (WIW)</strong></p><p>

Owner: Kai Kuhaulua</p><p>

Booker: Nakana Kuhaulua</p><p>

Size: Regional</p><p>

Prestige: E</p><p>

Rank (in USA): 8</p><p> </p><p>

Top Stars: Ioei Kahaulua, Makaio Kahaulua, Nakana Kahaulua, The Masked Patriot</p><p>

Future Stars: Tatsunori Ine, Tito Bumfhole</p><p>

History: WIW had a lot of momentum in 1977, but little seemed to carry over into 1978. They relied heavily on the Kahaulua family, but the crowd can only handle so many Makaio v. Ioei matches (they’ve wrestled one-on-one in 10 of the promotion’s 24 shows held in the last two years).</p><p>

Outlook: People in Hawaii barely know who they are (D- popularity there) so they don’t register at all on either the mainland or in Japan. Assuming that the Kahaulua boys procreate, there is no reason to suspect that this promotion is going anywhere – up OR down – anytime soon. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<em>*By Request*</em> <strong>Byron Valmont </strong>still wrestles in BHOTWG as a lower-midcarder, boasting a record of 13 wins and 14 losses in 1978 (after going 15-13 in 1977). His most high-profile win was in a six-man match teaming with Hito Ichihara and BANZAI going over Yuto Ijima, Yodo Nakane, and Eiji Kiriyama. Interestingly, his poorest-received match was a win over TWL alumni Larry Vessey in February.</p>

Review of the American feds:

SWF - As good as ever then. Hopefully Nero and Eagles won't walk out on you so far.

CPW - That mention of Holt sounds ominous. Does he die in a narrative? And I'm starting to gain more of a picture of the wrestling scene at the moment. Unlike IRL with North versus South part 2 (and 3 and 4), we've got East Coast versus West Coast. Hopefully CPW won't be national soon, or your main-event might get raided.

APWF - Weak tag-team division, hot-shotted main title, building to national. Might be a threat if they turn things around. Otherwise, you could get past them in time.

AAFW - they don't seem to be going anywhere out of their strong-hold, plus a loss of main challengers could hurt them, so if their guys go instead of Eagles and Nero, you could do quite well and get ahead as your expansion continues.

AICW - Who are these clowns? And why are they more important than you? Best thing to use them as an extra-paycheck for your guys and just ignore them.

TWL - Don't lose Eagles or Nero and you'll do just fine in ratings as you expand. Might even extend by an extra half-hour if you're lucky. :D

CWB - Jesus Christ .... Just cherry-pick what you can when they die a slow death, ok?

WIW - Nothing important here...

HWA - Mmm... Strippers....

And here is the TWL Roster Review as we begin January, 1979. I will have predictions up for TWL's first show of 1979 very soon. Stay tuned!

Singles Competitors

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/CalSanders_jtlant.jpg

Captain USA is a lower-midcard face. He is more of a novelty act than a serious threat in the ring, though his recent alliance with the Masked Patriot should serve to move him up the card. He is expected to be a major part of the ongoing feud between patriotic faces and villainous foreigners.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/CheatinMikeBarstow.jpg

Cheatin’ Mike Barstow is a midcard heel. Since arriving in TWL, Barstow has demonstrated talent in both forcing his opponents to submit and cheating to win. Though yet to win a title, expect Barstow to be in the hunt sooner than later.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ChiefTwoEagles1977_alt.jpg

Chief Two Eagles is a main event face and the current TWL Champion. Two Eagles finally defeated Johnny Lawless for the TWL championship, having feuded with Professor Nero for much of 1978. Expect Two Eagles and Nero to resume their feud at some point, though the Texas Outlaws, ‘New School’ Jason Jackson, and Cheatin’ Mike Barstow are all waiting in the wings to take out the proud Native American champ.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/BillPop_2.jpg

Comrade Popinowski is an upper-midcard heel. Popinowski is worthless in the ring, but quite reliable in angles. He is the centerpiece of the “Capitalist versus Communist” storyline pitting the associates of Sheik Mustafa against the friends of the Masked Patriot. In addition, Popinowski’s un-human (bottled) strength is a wonderful asset and will doubtlessly be used in the coming weeks and months.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/EdmondJackson.jpg

‘Old School’ Edmond Jackson is a main event face. Jackson functions as a sort of gatekeeper in TWL. His feud with his son, Jason, is far from over – despite the fact that Edmond won at Year End Spectacular. At 46 years of age, he is much more useful to help get younger wrestlers over than as the face of the organization. But, should Chief Two Eagles leave or get injured, Edmond would be nominally our top face.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/FloydBowmn.jpg

Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman is a main event heel. Despite taking a backseat to Johnny Lawless in the Texas Outlaws, Bowman is a constant threat in TWL. His profanity-laced diatribes won’t fly on TV, but expect him to remain foul-mouthed at arena shows and other big events. He is also an integral part of the Texas Outlaws, arguably the strongest association of wrestlers in the world today.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/GiantGrimsley.jpg

Giant Grimsley is a midcard face. Despite a less-than-stellar record in 1978 (7 wins and 7 losses), Grimsley is a constant threat – if for no other reason than his tremendous size and decent in-ring work. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment is as the King of the Battle Royal – a title he relishes and plans to regain in TWL. He has been associated with Edmond Jackson and Pain in TWL, but has ties to Chief Two Eagles and the Masked Patriot from outside TWL.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JasonJackson_MJSTARK.jpg

‘New School’ Jason Jackson is an upper-midcard heel. Jackson’s fame (or, more appropriately, his infamy) has skyrocketed since coming to harass the state of Texas. He entered the promotion initially to battle Mark Krogan, continuing their CPW feud. But after Krogan retired, he reinvented himself as the Giant Killer and Legend Killer, twisting the truth when necessary to suit his self-image. He is currently one-third of the TWL Six-Man Champions, along with Double Disaster. But he seems poised for a run with the TWL title. Can he wrest it from Chief Two Eagles?

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JohnnyLawless.jpg

Johnny Lawless is a main event heel. The former protégé of Mark Krogan turned his back on The Lariat after the latter’s retirement in the middle of the year. Lawless won a tournament to decide the vacant title and, with the help of his fellow Texas Outlaws Mean Mark Green and Floyd Bowman, held it until losing to Chief Two Eagles in December. Although he no longer holds the TWL title, expect Lawless to remain a major player in 1979.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/KennyMaynard-1.jpg

‘The Mayne Event’ Kenny Maynard is a midcard face. Maynard wrestled as one of the yellow-masked Executioners for much of 1978. But when his fellow Canadian George DeColt needed a partner, he called on young Maynard. His record was forgettable (4-14), but he put on a number of quality matches. The biggest strike against Maynard is his value to CWF. Expect Maynard to sign a written deal with the company sometime in 1979 – costing TWL a future star.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/LuisMontero1977.jpg

Luis Montero is an upper-midcard face. Montero, who is currently accompanied to the ring by Shannon, is perhaps the brightest prospect in North American wrestling today. At present, he is kind of floating – not really in a feud with anyone in particular, but always a threat to win. Time will tell whether he becomes a major player in TWL or an ultra-talented afterthought.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MeanMarkGreen.jpg

Mean Mark Green is an upper-midcard heel. Green is the self-proclaimed enforcer of the Texas Outlaws and longtime partner of Floyd Bowman. Green has very few significant singles victories in the past two years, but has constantly put fear into high-level faces with his tenacity and ability to win at any time. 1979 will be a pivotal year for Green. Will he ascend to the upper-echelon of TWL or will he settle into a role as a gatekeeper?

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/WarlordPain_jhdAJ2.jpg

Pain is an upper-midcard face. Since breaking away from Professor Nero when Warlord Agony bolted for SWF, Pain has reinvented himself as a badass, take-no-prisoners babyface. Expect a long, bloody feud with Professor Nero and Nero’s newest associates.

Screw Tyson Baine- “Pain is Pain.”

Panzer is an opener heel. Panzer has appeared just once, but seems poised to play a prominent role in the ongoing “Capitalist versus Communist” storyline playing out between Sheik Mustafa and the Masked Patriot.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ProfessorNero1977.jpg

Professor Nero is a main event heel. Nero is a sick, twisted, sadistic individual hell-bent on inflicting as much pain as possible (both physical and psychological) on his opponents. In 1978, he brutalized Chief Two Eagles and won several matches against the Indian champion, but ultimately fell short in their final encounter. For now, Nero seems content toying with Pain and establishing his new tag team of the Demons of Rage. But with Chief Two Eagles holding the TWL belt, it is only a matter of time until the Professor is gunning for the gold.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/SheikMustafa1977.jpg

Sheik Mustafa is a midcard heel. Mustafa is the mouthpiece of the anti-American segment of TWL. Leading Comrade Popinowski and Panzer to the ring, as well as providing an important third member of six-man matches, has made Sheik a true force to be reckoned with in the organization.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TheMaskedPatriot.jpg

The Masked Patriot is an upper-midcard face. He recently arrived in TWL, having spent time in Boston, Florida, and the Tri-State area in the past year. He has started a rather obvious feud with the American-hating Sheik Mustafa, Comrade Popinowski, and Panzer, bringing Captain USA and Giant Grimsley in as potential allies.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TimberWolf.jpg

TimberWolf is a midcard heel. TimberWolf has acted primarily as the fall guy for the Disciples of Evilness in the past year, posting a 2-14 record. His association with Nero will, however, keep him relevant in the foreseeable future. But should Nero decide to trim the fat, TimberWolf would probably be the first casualty.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MikeyMontana.jpg

Trailer Park Kid is an upper-midcard face. At the beginning of the year, the Trailer Park Kid was the forgotten Texas Outlaw, playing a similar role to TimberWolf. But when the Outlaws splintered, the Trailer Park Kid became suddenly relevant, associating alternately with George DeColt, Edmond Jackson, and now Team Texas. He is a crowd favorite and will continue to rise up the card, possibly parlaying his feud with Cheatin’ Mike Barrow into being a real player in TWL.

Tag Teams

The Crimson Serpent Cult are main event faces and the current TWL Tag Team Champions. Cobra and Viper came in during 1977 as badass, fireball-spewing heels, hell-bent on annihilating Chief Two Eagles. They suddenly switched sides late in the year, aligning with their former nemesis. Since then, they have more or less controlled the tag team titles, though they seem to have lost their edge. Is an overhaul in their future or will the TWL Tag Team belts jump to a younger (and cheaper) duo?

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ArchiJudge1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DaveWylde.jpg

Team Texas are midcard and lower-midcard faces. At the beginning of the year, Team Texas included Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge and The Lone Star Stampeder. They even held the tag belts for a time, winning them from the Border Runners before dropping them to the Lords of War. When the Lone Star Stampeder retired, he handpicked ‘Double-Wide’ Dave Wylde as his replacement. The newest iteration of Team Texas has found less success, as both men are pretty young and green. Fortunately, their associations with the Lone Star Stampeder and the Trailer Park Kid should help them become more popular members of TWL.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Croup.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Vandemar.jpg

The New Zealand Game Hunters are midcard faces. Very little is known about Croup and Vandemar. Vandemar has shown an intense animalistic streak while Croup seems to be the brains of the operation. Right now they are feuding with Professor Nero and the Demons of Rage, but their rivalry with The Full Monty has been a worldwide phenomenon. Could it be headed to Texas?

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ChaseAllen.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DirkBonell.jpg

The Party Animals are lower –midcard faces. They have yet to wrestle a match in TWL, but Chase Allen and Dirk Bonnell seem to be perfect fits for the Texas wrestling seen. Time will tell whether or not they stick in the promotion.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ErnieTurner_alt2.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/WileySteinway_alt3.jpg

The Executioners are midcard and lower-midcard faces. These yellow-masked men are the second iteration of the tandem in TWL. They generally function to put over heel tag teams, but, as demonstrated with the Mark Krogan storyline from 1977, they could find an expanded role at any time.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DemonAnger1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DemonSpite1977.jpg

The Demons of Rage are lower-midcard heels. Since entering TWL as, let’s be honest, replacements for the Lords of War, the Professor Nero-led duo have run roughshod over their competition. Demon Anger and Demon Spite are raw, undisciplined brawlers. But under Nero’s tutelage, big things are expected from them.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Eruption.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Tsunami.jpg

Double Disaster are midcard heels. Eruption and Tsunami spent much of 1977 as curtain-jerkers before the arrival of ‘New School’ Jason Jackson heralded the creation of the West Coast Warriors and rebirth of these giant Samoans. The WCW are now two-time TWL Six-Man champions and the Samoan duo are top contenders for the tag team titles. Plus they provide excellent backup as their menacing personas add a great deal to Jackson’s arrogant ramblings.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/LeeWright1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TommyHandell.jpg w/http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ShaneSneer1977.jpg

The Sneer Corporation are lower-midcard heels. Although they have rarely appeared on-screen, Shane Sneer’s tandem of ‘Luscious’ Lee Wright and ‘Handsome’ Tommy Handell seem poised for a nice long run as a tag team. For the foreseeable future, they will probably be used to give momentum to face teams. But as they have excellent tag chemistry, expect them to rise slowly, but surely, up the card.

Like the roster update. Just wanted to say that I've been trying to keep up with this one, even if I don't manage to get predictions in for each show. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for reading BP...hopefully I'll have some stuff coming up soon to keep you hooked.

From the Notebook of Referee Billy

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/TWL.jpg

TWL is revving up for their first show of 1979. Here is the announced card:

Giant Grimsley v. Panzer w/Sheik Mustafa

Another contest in the on-going feud between American defenders and the foreign invaders. Who will come out on top in this battle of giants?

The Party Animals (Chase Allen/Dirk Bonnell) v. Sneer Corporation ('Luscious' Lee Wright/'Handsome' Tommy Handell)

The Party Animals have yet to wrestle in TWL, but will face a stiff test in their first encounter.

'Old School' Edmond Jackson/Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow/Johnny Lawless

Several weeks ago, Lawless and Barstow complained about being cheated. Now they get a chance to redeem themselves. Will they prevail or will the team of Old School and the Kid come out on top?

Match of Champions: Chief Two Eagles/Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. West Coast Warriors ('New School' Jason Jackson/Eruption/Tsunami)

This is a highly-anticipated non-title match bringing together all six champions in one match. Chief and the Cult are top-notch competitors, but the Warriors are functioning as a well-oiled machine. Who wins this one? Anyone's guess.

Quick Picks:

Giant Grimsley v. Panzer

The Party Animals v. Sneer Corporation

'Old School' Edmond Jackson/Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow/Johnny Lawless

Match of Champions: Chief Two Eagles/Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. West Coast Warriors ('New School' Jason Jackson/Eruption/Tsunami)
