LESNAR vs. VELASQUEZ OFFICIAL

The much talked about & widely expected bout between current UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar & undefeated Cain Velasquez has been made official by the UFC & will indeed headline 'UFC 121' in Anaheim California on Saturday Week 3, November.

Lesnar, who is coming off a stunning come-from-behind victory over Shane Carwin, is looking to continue his dominance at the top of the UFC Heavyweight division but Velasquez, who many have believed for some time is a champion in the making, has looked unstoppable in his relatively young career so far & could very well be the toughest test that the champion has faced so far in his MMA career.

More fights for this event will be announced soon.

----------------------------------------------------------

NEWS & NOTES

UFC Welterweight contender Paulo Thiago has joined the notorious Chute Boxe Academy in a hope to improve his all-round game after his recent loss to Martin Kampmann.

Ultimate Fighter season 8 winner, Efrain Escudero has joined American Kickboxing Academy in the wake of his recent submission loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 22.

----------------------------------------------------------

SIGNINGS & RELEASES

UFC President Dana White has announced via Twitter that Rolles Gracie has been re-signed by the promotion. Rolles, who is the cousin of Renzo Gracie, was quickly released from his UFC contract after a lackluster performance at 'UFC 109' on rout to a TKO loss to Joey Beltran but fortunately for the 3rd degree BJJ black belt, Rolles will get another shot to uphold the Gracie honour inside the octagon.

The UFC have announced the signing of Jake Rosholt on a 4 fight contract. Rosholt, a standout wrestler for Oklahoma State, was originally signed by the UFC back in 2008 but after going 1-2 he was released from his contract, however after picking up his 2nd straight win on the regional scene, Rosholt has earned his return to the big time.

(I know there fight at SRC 13 was for the title but for whatever reason Kanehara is still the champion in the database so i had to spin the story a little)

UFC 119: MIR vs. NOGUEIRA II PREVIEW

<img src= http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/7328/frankmir.gif> vs. <img src= http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/6218/antoniorodrigonogueira.gif>

At UFC 92, Frank Mir stepped into the octagon with the legendary Minotauro Nogueira, a man many claimed was simply a "better version of Frank Mir himself" yet Mir went on to shock the world by stopping Nogueira in the 2nd round, becoming the first man ever to stop the PRIDE Legend. However the impressive feat was tainted when UFC President Dana White revealed that Nogueira had been suffering from a Staph Infection prior to the fight, this led to many MMA fans questioning the impressiveness of Mir's win, something that hasn't sat well with Frank Mir since.

Now almost 2 years on, Frank Mir gets the chance to prove that UFC 92 was no fluke & Nogueira, who has long campaigned for the rematch, gets an opportunity to prove that when 100% healthy he is simply a better version of Frank Mir!

<img src= http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/5434/antoniorogerionogueira.gif> vs. <img src= http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/8906/ryanbader.gif>

Coming off a controversial split-decision victory over Jason Brilz at UFC 114, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is looking to silence his critics when he meets undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect Ryan Bader in the co-main event of UFC 119.

Considered by many as a future champion in the UFC, Ryan Bader has showing alot of potential in his relatively short UFC career so far & as a former NCAA Division I wrestler from Arizona State, Bader possess all the tools that gave Nogueira such a difficult time in his last outing inside the octagon, however a fight with Rogerio so early in his career could prove an obstacle to far for the talented Arizona native.

<img src= http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/1472/mattserra.gif> vs. <img src= http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/9303/chrislytle.gif>

Four years ago Matt Serra & Chris Lytle crossed paths on the season 4 finale of 'The Ultimate Fighter' where both men fought for not just the standard 6 figure UFC contract but for an opportunity to challenge Georges St. Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship. On that occasion it was Matt Serra who claimed the split-decision victory & subsequently went on to produce the biggest upset in UFC history by beating Georges St. Pierre.

However 4 years on Lytle has been the more active, fighting 11 times & riding a current 3 fight win streak whilst a combination of injury & time off has meant Serra has only fought 4 times since they met back in November 2006 & only time will tell if that is something that will come back to haunt Matt Serra.

<img src= http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/4067/seansherk.gif> vs. <img src= http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/6013/evandunham.gif>

In what many consider as the most intriguing bout on the card, fast-rising Evan Dunham faces the toughest test of his relatively young career when he takes on the former UFC Lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

Sherk, who holds an impressive 33-4 record, has been inactive for over a year due to injury & with his apparent recent unwillingness to use his wrestling, many fans have all but wrote him off but despite his advancing years, Sherk is still undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the world at 155 & a win over a rising star like Evan Dunham will surely propel Sherk back into title contention.

<img src= http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5702/melvinguillard.gif> vs. <img src= http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4481/jeremystephens.gif>

In what is undoubtedly one of the most exciting match-ups in the UFC all year, Melvin Guillard & Jeremy Stephens will both put there recent good run of form on the line as they collide in a potentially explosive Lightweight bout to kick start the main card of UFC 119 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It's not every day the UFC match-up 2 fighters with vicious one-punch knockout power against each other but with 27 knockouts between them, Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens has guaranteed fireworks written all over it!

Saturday Week 3, October 2010

PRELIMINARY CARD

Heavyweight Bout

(5-6) Mark Hunt vs. Sean McCorkle (9-0)

In a fight that played out almost exclusively on the feet, it was the power of Hunt that was the telling factor in this one, over the busier McCorkle.

Mark Hunt def. Sean McCorkle via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

-------------------------------------------------------

Welterweight Bout

(15-4) T.J. Grant vs. Julio Paulino (17-3)

A good showing by Paulino but it wasn't enough to prevent Grant getting the takedowns when he needed them to edge the fight by decision.

T.J. Grant def. Julio Paulino via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

-------------------------------------------------------

Lightweight Bout

(12-2) Steve Lopez vs. Waylon Lowe (8-3)

With both fighters 0-1 in the UFC so far, a win was badly needed for both men & it was Lopez that turned it on in style with an impressive TKO victory.

Steve Lopez def. Waylon Lowe via TKO (strikes) at 3:23 of Round 1.

-------------------------------------------------------

Lightweight Bout

(14-3-1) Thiago Tavares vs. Pat Audinwood (9-0-1)

A fairly one-sided fight as Tavares gets to mount & finishes the previously undefeated Audinwood in under 2 minutes.

Thiago Tavares def. Pat Audinwood via TKO (strikes) at 1:30 of Round 1.

-------------------------------------------------------

Heavyweight Bout

(2-0) Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran (12-3)

In a lackluster Heavyweight bout, Mitrione showed little of the hype he has been recieving lately & was easily out-struck by Beltran.

Joey Beltran def. Matt Mitrione via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

-------------------------------------------------------

Middleweight Bout

(10-2) C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen (46-12)

Again labeled as the underdog, Doerksen gains a 2nd straight win in the UFC with a slick counter from a Dollaway takedown & forces the tap.

Joe Doerksen def. C.B. Dollaway via Submission (guillotine) at 2:09 of Round 1.

MAIN CARD

Lightweight bout

(25-8-2) Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens (17-5)

Round 1

The fight begins with Guillard immediately shooting for a takedown which is stuffed by Stephens but after a short exchange on the feet, Guillard does get the fight to the ground & passes to half guard but no damage is done as the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Melvin Guillard.

Round 2

After 5 minutes of limited action, Round 2 begins in explosive fashion as Stephens drops Guillard with a counter right hook & whilst it appears Guillard has recovered, a huge punch lands & puts Guillard out like a light.

Jeremy Stephens def. Melvin Guillard via Knockout (punch) at 0:36 of Round 2.

-------------------------------------------------------

Lightweight Bout

(32-4-1) Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham (11-0)

*Prior to the fight, Joe Rogan talks about a rumor regarding Dunham having motivational issues in the lead up to this fight*

Round 1

Round begins with Dunham landing a shot to the ribs of Sherk but it's not long before 'The Muscle Shark' takes the fight to the ground. Dunham uses his legs to force Sherk out of his guard but after an unsuccessful scramble, Sherk catches Dunham in side control then shifts to mount & it's not long before the former Lightweight champion forces the stoppage.

Sean Sherk def. Evan Dunham via TKO (strikes) at 2:17 of Round 1.

-------------------------------------------------------

Welterweight Bout

(11-6) Matt Serra vs. Chris Lytle (29-17-5)

Round 1

As the fight begins its Lytle who gets the fight to the ground first but Serra threatens from the bottom with a guillotine which doesn't end the fight but does allow Serra to sweep into side control. Serra looks to take his back but Lytle is too skilled to give up position & manages to sweep his way off the ground but Serra scrambles back to his feet & the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Chris Lytle.

Round 2

Serra begins the round with a quick combination that barely lands & Lytle manages to push him up against the cage & keeps control before taking the fight to the ground, With both fighters extremely skilled on the ground, neither fighter can get the upper hand which leads to Lytle allowing Serra back to his feet, but its not long before the fight hits the ground again as Serra pulls Lytle into his guard as the round ends. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Chris Lytle.

Round 3

Both fighters come out for the final round looking to end the fight & it's Serra who throws the first big punch but it's avoided & countered by Lytle. It's rinse & repeat for the remainder of the fight as Serra looks for the big knockout blow but everything is easily countered by lytle, who should take this one on the scorecards. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Chris Lytle.

Chris Lytle def. Matt Serra via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

-------------------------------------------------------

Co-Main Event

(19-3) Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Ryan Bader (11-0)

Round 1

The fight begins on the feet with Bader landing a nice jab but nothing noteworthy from either fighter as we go into the midway point of the round. A low kick from Rogerio is countered & Bader takes the fight to the ground & gets into half guard. Bader does very well to avoid the sweep attempts from Nogueira & does even better to gain side control on the BJJ black belt, an armbar attempt from Bader is easily defended but he does enough to secure the round. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Ryan Bader.

Round 2

Nogueira looks to get his boxing going at the start of the 2nd but he's finding it difficult to land anything significant & Bader gets the takedown. After some heavy ground & pound from Bader that fails to land, Nogueira uses a guillotine attempt to sweep the American into side control but Nogueira surprisingly allows Bader back to his feet & possibly gives away the round in the process. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Ryan Bader.

Round 3

The final round begins with Bader looking to end the fight with a huge punch which Nogueira avoids but Bader continues to look for the knockout as he appears to be tiring & it ultimately proves to be his downfall as Rogerio avoids a weak jab & counters with a hard spinning back fist which knocks Bader out cold!

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira def. Ryan Bader via Knockout (punch) at 3:56 of Round 3.

-------------------------------------------------------

Main Event

(13-5) Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1)

Round 1

The main event begins with Mir landing a nice jab & the former Heavyweight champion is beating Nogueira to the punch but its the Brazilian who gets the fight to the ground, landing in Mir's half guard, both men exchange submission attempts but neither succeed. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Round 2

Again Mir works over Nogueira with his striking, although nothing that seems to faze Minotauro, but numerous takedown attempts from Mir are unsuccessful & he has to settle for working in his guard as Nogueira completes a takedown of his own, but again continuous attempts at advancing position are easily defended by Mir. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Round 3

Mir looks ragged at the beginning of the 3rd as Nogueira looks to grapple with Mir, who attempts a slam, but Nogueira is too slippery & it looks ominous for Frank Mir as Nogueira takes his back & after a few unsuccessful submission attempts, Minotauro manages to flatten out Mir with a rear naked choke & gets the tap.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Frank Mir via Submission (rear naked choke) at 3:27 of Round 3.

UFC 120: BISPING vs. AKIYAMA PREVIEW

<img src= http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/310/michaelbisping.gif> vs. <img src= http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/653/yoshihiroakiyamd.gif>

In an intriguing clash in the Middleweight division, Michael Bisping & Yoshihiro Akiyama will look to move back into title contention at the expense of the other in the UFC 120 main event live on Spike TV.

Coming off a disappointing submission loss to Chris Leben at UFC 116, Yoshihiro Akiyama is in desperate need to get back to winning ways in the UFC & a trip to the United Kingdom to take on England's own Michael Bisping could either be the perfect fight to get his career back on track or it may well prove to be the beginning of the end for the 35 year old Japanese superstar.

<img src= http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/1040/danhardy.gif> vs. <img src= http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/3218/carloscondit.gif>

In arguably the best fight on the card, 2 of the best strikers in the Welterweight division collide in what is a very important fight for there respective careers in the night's co-main event.

Hardy, who is coming off an unsuccessful attempt at the UFC Welterweight title, has been working hard to improve his all-round game after his skills were brutally exposed by Georges St. Pierre & takes on Condit, who has yet to produce the same level of performances in the UFC as we saw in the WEC, yet considering that he could so easily be holding a 0-3 record in the UFC if things hadn't gone his way, is actually looking for his 3rd straight UFC victory which would no doubt move him into title contention in the Welterweight division.

<img src= http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/8777/johnhathaway.gif> vs. <img src= http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/3505/mikepyle.gif>

Originally set to meet undefeated Dong Hyun Kim, John 'Hitman' Hathaway now takes on MMA veteran Mike Pyle in an interesting Welterweight bout.

Giving his recent dominant performance over former Lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez, John Hathaway is expected to have an easy night dealing with Mike Pyle, or so you would believe if you listened to alot of MMA fans, however the veteran Pyle brings alot of tools that Hathaway hasn't faced yet in his young career & with more than double the number of fights as his opponent aswel as having 13 year on the Brit, Pyle is definitely a big test for the young Hathaway.

With a virtually guaranteed Knockout of the Night bonus coming the way of the winner, Kongo & Browne are 2 heavy hitters looking to move up the Heavyweight rankings.

Looking more & more like the gatekeeper of the Heavyweight division with every passing fight, Cheick Kongo is desperate to build upon his recent win over veteran Paul Buentello where as undefeated Travis Browne has nothing to lose as he moves up in competition at UFC 120.

Ultimate Fighter season 9 winner, James Wilks returns home for his first fight in the UK as the Brit, now living in California, takes on submission artist Claude Patrick, who is on a current 11 fight win streak.

Spending the majority of his career fighting for small regional promotions in Canada, Patrick moved into the big time at UFC 115 with a submission win over Ricardo Funch & now looks to make it 2 in 2 over the TUF winner.
