WHY TNA?

With all the buzz around after Bound for Glory, now seems the perfect time to 'right the wrongs' of the Hogan/Bischoff era. Does that mean I will undo everything they did? Of course not, instead things will run along similar, though not identical, paths. Some of the debuts, some of the matches and some of the feuds you've seen since January 4th may appear in some form or another – you'll just have to wait and see! Plus, it'll be a change from my previous two C-verse diaries.

WHATCHA' GONNA' DO!?

Well, not so much 'gonna' do' as 'have done.' I am using a modded version of MrCanada's September 2010 data – modded because, as I'm sure you've guessed by now, I'm starting in January 2010. I've tried to get TNA and WWE rosters as they were at the start of January but there may be a couple of issues. I've also made a small change to the product to remove the 'not dangerous enough' penalty, although I can't remember what change that was. The smaller rosters have been left as is. You'll also have noticed that in the post above I mentioned the three hour live iMPACT! taking place on 1/1/10 rather than 4/1/10. That is because in this universe there are only 336 days in a year which is handy because that works out at 48 or 12 four week months. Coincidence or what!? As this is a real-world diary I have decided to use 'real' dates, so Tuesday Week 2 will always be the 9th and Christmas will always be on a Thursday.

CREDITS

If I were to actually thank everyone who has inspired me in one way or another I'd break the post with too many words. PeterHilton and angeldelayette have been particularly encouraging in the formation of this diary and for that I can only thank them (or blame them :p ). In addition to the work of the two gentlemen above, jw_forever's WWE 2006 diary and NoNeck's USPW/PWC diary both made me think – now is the time to do this again. There are of course many, many other diaries you should check out, but alas - if I link to them all then I'll never get a show posted :D

Awesome! I'm excited because..

a)you went back to the beginning so that there's not that feeling of a sudden massive overhaul

b)your CVerse diaries were brilliant in setting a mood and creating an identity for the company you were booking and I think that's something TNA needs desperately

c) you've talked about 'righting the wrongs' but you're still pimping Hogan's involvement ..and for all of Hulk's issues, there's a lot of good to having him involved.

I'm a McGuiness (Wolfe) mark. Shoot me.

Morgan & Hernandez vs. Raven & Stevie

I'm not a big Hernandez fan, and I absolutely LOVE Raven and Stevie, but you'll want to be getting the younger guys over, so I see a win for the young guns.

This seems so long ago now in real life. I'm looking forward to see what direction you take this in. Like PH said, Hogan always had a lot to offer TNA, just their utilisation of him and lack of general focus really did the damage over the months that followed.

But yeah, I enjoyed your USPW diary a lot. I'm sure this will be equally satisfying. Good luck with it!

Desmond Wolfe vs. D'Angelo Dinero

-Very tough to call, both men are future world champions if used right, but i'll back the boy from my neck of the woods.

Morgan & Hernandez vs. Raven & Stevie

-At this point Morgan and Hernandez have way more upside than Raven and Stevie.

Lashley is due to make the move to MMA with Strikeforce in the next few weeks and has also been making overtures with Zero1 in Japan. Although no news has come out, it would seem likely that Lashley's former girlfriend and on-screen valet Kristal Marshall will also be leaving the company. There has been no comment with regards to where this leaves Scott Steiner or the storyline that the three are currently engaged in, although as all three have been off-screen for some weeks it would appear the feud is simply to be dropped.</tr></td></table>

TAZ: Whatcha' gonna do, when TNA and Hulkamania run wild on you brother, haha!

TENAY: Tonight, we celebrate quite simply the biggest night in TNA history. Yes, Hulk Hogan is live right here on iMPACT! It's Mike Tenay, my broadcast partner Taz, welcoming you to a three hour live special right here on Spike TV...

TAZ: Well Mike, you can feel that change is literally hovering in the air. I've got a feelin that the TNA we know right now will never, ever be the same by the end of this evening...

BISCHOFF

Hello, TNA – it's been a long time coming! You've all seen that Hulk Hogan is on his way but before then, we need to kick these show off with a bang, am I right?

So I got thinking, what is it that sets TNA apart from any other form of wrestling on your television screens...the first thing that came to mind is the X-Division. It's not about weight, it's about style – that's genius, I like that. Now if you've heard of Eric Bischoff which, let's face it, you have, you know I like to see some high-flying action mixed in with my in my wrestling so how about we bring our champion, Amazing Red, out here...right now for a title match!

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/TNA/Cards/AmazingRed.jpg

[Amazing Red gets a fairly decent pop as he makes his way to the ring, belt in hand...]

BISCHOFF

Red, I think we need to find you a challenger...anybody back there up for it?

[The theme tune of Suicide hits the arena PA as the masked superstar begins down the aisle. But Suicide can't even make it half way to the ring before he is jumped from behind by Daniels. Out of nowhere Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed chase each other to the ring before being joined last by Homicide. The six men stand uncomfortably in front of each of the TNA turnbuckles, leaving a smirking Eric Bischoff to stand in the rather dangerous centre...]

TAZ: Ha, Eric Bischoff and Amazing Red certainly aren't spoilt for choice!

BISCHOFF

Ambition. I like it. So, I'm going to let....Daniels have a title shot. And Lethal. And Creed. And Suicide. And Homicide. Why not? We've got six sides, we've got six ladders...oh, did I not tell you that bit? We're having a six-man, six-ladder, X-Division-title Ladder Match.

[The TNA crowd cheer loudly at the announced match...]

And we're having it...right now!

TENAY: A six-man ladder match - what a way to start off tonight's historic iMPACT!

[Eric barely has time to slide out of the ring before the six competitors jump on each other. Meanwhile, six TNA officials run in and place the ladders at the end of the aisle...]

Amazing Red © vs. Daniels vs. Jay Lethal vs. Homicide vs. Consequences Creed vs. Suicide

Organised chaos would be the best way to describe the first match of the Hogan-Bischoff era. A short brawl started the bout off before the ladders began being put to use. The brand of fast-paced, high-flying action that has become the hallmark of X-Division wrestling was in full force tonight as all six men put in one risky move after another. Towards the end of the match the tag team of Lethal and Creed were battling with Homicide and Suicide on the outside of the ring and with Daniels having been thrown over the top rope Amazing Red spotted his opportunity and began to climb up a ladder towards the belt. Daniels wasn't finished, however, and using one of the ladders leaning against the apron, ran up it and landed a springboard dropkick against the side of Red's ladder. The ladder toppled sending Red over the top rope and right on top of the four men battling on the outside. With his five competitors now effectively out of the match Daniels retrieved the belt for the victory, and the title!

DANIELS wins in 10:20 via pinfall to become the NEW TNA X-DIVISION champion!

Match Rating: C+

TENAY: Great performance from all men involved...Taz, we've got a new champion in Chris Daniels...

TAZ: Ha, what is that 20 minutes we've been on air, crazy, we've got a new champion already!

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/TNA/News/BlackFade.jpg

[We cut to the Beautiful People's locker-room where Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne are mocking Awesome Kong's 'fashion sense'. As the door opens to reveal Lacey Von Erich, Sky and Rayne's conversation is drowned out by the crowd of people outside the iMPACT! Zone...]

Well, this is the BP locker-room – people are pining for us, girl!

LACEY

No...they're not shouting for us...

VELVET

They're WHAT!?

MADISON

But we are the Beautiful People...

LACEY

No...they're all shouting for some girl called Sharon and her friend Jethro...or something? Sooo weird...

VELVET

Sharon and Jethro...Jeff...no way...come on!

[While Lacey puts on her best confused expression Velvet rushes out, closely followed by Madison. Eventually Lacey gives up and joins her stablemates outside the iMPACT! Zone.]

Segment Rating: C+

TAZ: Sharon and Jethro...I think Lacey's a little slow on the uptake!

TENAY: Well I wouldn't like to speculate on who 'Sharon and Jethro' are. Taz, do you think this could be one of Bischoff's promised surprises?

TAZ: Mike, perhaps if we brought Lacey out here the two of you could have an intellectual conversation while I call the matches!?

TENAY: Thanks Taz...iMPACT! will be back after this short commercial break.

TENAY: Welcome back to the iMPACT! Zone, don't forget tonight is the historic iMPACT! debut of Hulkamania.

TAZ: Great things are coming, Mike...

TENAY: They certainly are Taz and right now we've got tag team action between champions The British Invasion and their challengers, the Motor City Machine Guns...

The British Invasion © (w/Rob Terry) vs. Motor City Machine Guns

The British Invasion continue their tag team title reign despite being pushed to the limit by the Motor City Machine Guns. In fact, at several points in the match it appeared that the high-flying team of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin would become the second new champions of the night after near fall after near fall. In the end it was 'Big' Rob Terry that would play the deciding role, pushing Chris Sabin's foot off the rope at the same time as Doug Williams used the ropes to his own advantage.

THE BRITISH INVASION win in 7:53 to retain their TNA Tag Team titles.

Match Rating: C-

TENAY: How could the referee not see that blatant cheating!?

TAZ: I don't know, Mike, but you've got to hand it to the British Invasion - they really know how to cheat!

TENAY: I wonder who it could be? Taz, any ideas?

TAZ: Could be your friends Jethro and Sharon but I don't know...they were here already. Whatever you say about Eric Bischoff, the man knows how to throw a surprise party, ha!

ERIC BISCHOFF

Look, Mick, I've told you not to worry – I hold no grudges...

MICK FOLEY

You hold no grudges!? I was the one you screwed over in WCW, I'm the one you screwed over in the WWE but I won't let you screw me over in TNA...no, this is my company...NOT YOURS!

BISCHOFF

Calm down, Mick. Are you telling me you want to quit, because if you do, that's okay. I'd understand completely.

FOLEY

Quit!? I'm not quitting Eric, I'm going to stick around and bleed you for every penny you've got...

BISCHOFF

If dreams were dimes, Mick...you see, like everyone else on the TNA roster you're going to have to prove yourself to me, to Hulk, to Dixie Carter and to the fans. If you don't do that then you can kiss goodbye to Orlando...

[With a smug look on his face, Eric is not surprised to see Foley storm out of the room...]

BISCHOFF

Don't slam...[CRASH!]...the door. Strike one, Mick, strike one...

Segment Rating: B+

TENAY: And this is the other, more ruthless side of Eric Bischoff...

TAZ: Mick's a good friend of mine, and he's had a long, bad, history with Eric Bischoff, but he's more than good enough to 'prove himself' to everyone in TNA.

Kong & Hamada vs. Sarita & Taylor Wilde ©

The Knockout Division is one of the things that sets TNA apart from its competition and the Knockout Tag Team titles go one step further. Arguably the four most traditionally talented female wrestlers on the TNA roster battled it out in a close-fought encounter which would see inaugural champions Sarita and Taylor Wilde defeated for the first time in over three months. Awesome Kong's unique blend of brute strength and surprising agility helped her to stand out even moreso than usual and she was easily the star of this particular bout. Seven minutes in Kong hit an Amazing Press to secure the victory, and the belts.

KONG & HAMADA win in 7:20 via pinfall to become the NEW TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions!

Match Rating: D-

TENAY: And...new champions.

TAZ: That is massive, massive, for Hamada and Kong. Earlier tonight we crowned a new X-Division champion, know we've got new Knockout tag champions!

Morgan & Hernandez vs. Raven & Stevie (w/Daffney)

Matt Morgan and Hernandez continue their rise through the TNA tag team division with a solid victory over hardcore veterans Raven and Dr. Stevie. Stevie and Raven tried every dirty trick they knew to gain the upper hand but the brute strength of their opponents kept them from getting any sort of advantage. A Carbon Footprint from Matt Morgan was enough to crumple Dr. Stevie and the following pin was nothing but formality.

MORGAN & HERNANDEZ win in 6:58 via pinfall.

Match Rating: C

TENAY: Matt Morgan and Shawn Hernandez continue their speedy rise through the TNA tag team rankings...

TAZ: It's hard to imagine that these two men have only been teaming together for a couple of months!

LETHAL

What do I think about Hulk Hogan coming to TNA? Man, it's great. You know, when you're growing up and all you want to be is a professional wrestling it's the Hulk Hogans, and the Andres, and the Flairs that make you really go for that dream, you know?

[Lethal slips into 'Macho Mode'...]

I mean, oooh yeaaah, the Mega Powers are back together. The Black Machismo and the Hulkster are going to take TNA right to the veeeerrrrry top, oooh yeaaaah!

[Lethal returns to his 'normal voice'...]

Seriously though, in 2010 Hulk Hogan is still the name in professional wrestling and to have him here in TNA is unbelievable...dream stuff, man. All we need now is the Nature Boy...

...wooooo!...

CAMERA-MAN

That was a pretty good, even for you!

LETHAL

Thanks, but that wasn't me...wait, no way...

HEMME

Hello everybody! In his first ever TNA interview, Shannon Moore...

MOORE

Thanks Christy, but I also brought a friend with me...

[From the side of the screen walks Jeff Hardy! As the crowd's cheers come in over the sound sytem, Christy's jaw drops at the surprise appearance of the 'Charismatic Enigma'...]

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/TNA/Cards/JeffHardy.jpg

HEMME

Wow...Jeff Hardy! I..er...sorry...er....just so surprised! Jeff, Shannon – what are your plans in TNA – where do you see yourself in six months time?

MOORE

There's so many things to do here in TNA, Christy. You know there's the X-Division, which rocks man, and there's the tag division which is pretty hot too...

HARDY

Don't forget the World Title scene, Shannon – AJ Styles may be the man of the moment but I think Jeff Hardy could make a pretty fine TNA Heavyweight champion.

HEMME

Do you think...

[Christy Hemme's sentence is cut off by the appearance of Daniels pushing past her. The Preacher strides confidently up to Hardy and stands nose-to-nose with the 'Charismatic Enigma'...]

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/TNA/Cards/ChristopherDaniels.jpg

DANIELS

Hey Jeffrey - I was listening quite intently there and I want to know what happened to that high-flying, Xtreme Hardy? You know...the one that would jump from ladders, dive through tables? What's wrong Jeffrey, cat got your tongue?

[Daniels shoves Hardy in the chest but Jeff signals to Moore to stay where he is. Defiantly Hardy moves back to his position inches away from Daniels...]

HARDY

If you've got a problem...

DANIELS

Sure I've got a problem. You come to TNA and not only do you think your above everyone else here, better than everyone else – even our World Champion. But after what was it, one World title run? After one run you think you're beyond the kind of risk-taking you need to survive in the X-Division? What's wrong, is the X-Division title not good enough for Emperor Nero?

HARDY

Back off...

DANIELS

I think someone ought to show you what Total Nonstop Action is really all about...

[An almighty push from Daniels knocks Hardy to the ground, while Moore is quickly taken out with a clothesline. As Daniels sets upon Hardy a number of security pour in to break up the fight. Christy Hemme, meanwhile, looks on concerned as she signs off.]

Segment Rating: C

TENAY: That is despicable behaviour by Daniels! What have Jeff Hardy and Shannon Moore ever done to him!

TAZ: Daniels clearly took offence to something and even if we don't understand it, he does...

TENAY: Right...we'll be trying to figure out that one during this short commercial break.

Samoa Joe vs. Jesse Neal

Perhaps in an attempt to make a point to the new TNA heirarchy, Samoa Joe did a fairly good job of demolishing Jesse Neal. Although the youngster got in some offence on occasion the real star of the match was Joe, whose savage attacks were too much for the tattooed Neal. When Joe hit the Muscle Buster near the six minute mark this one was all over.

SAMOA JOE wins in 5:47 via pinfall.

What's it like to work with Hulk Hogan? Well I've been on his side, and I've been up against him, and all I'll say is that 30 years ago people where cheering on the Hulkster and they're still doing it with as much passion right now. 'The Monster' Abyss vs. Kiyoshi

Although currently being seen as a fan favourite, Abyss made light work of squashing Japanese star Kiyoshi. The match lasted just long enough for glimpses of an attack from Kiyoshi, but a four minute Black Hole Slam was quickly, and predictably, followed by a three count to give Abyss the win.

TNA KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH

Tara © vs. ODB

Tara continues her Knockouts title reign in a reasonable, if unspectacular, match. ODB was on the defence for much of the opening and soon began to look outside of the rules for a way back into the contest. For the second time this evening a title match would end in controversy when ODB laid out Tara with a vicious chair shot well within the view of referee Earl Hebner.

TARA wins in 7:44 via DQ to retain her TNA Knockout title.

Match Rating: D

[The match may have been over but ODB wasn't quite finished and she continued to attack Tara with the chair. Eventually she grabbed the title belt from ringside and standing over her opponent raised it above her head. Suddenly her mood changed as a familiar theme hit the iMPACT! Zone...

BISCHOFF

Well, I've had two hours in this job and I must say – it's great to be back. But while I was in my office back there I noticed that we didn't have a main event. So, Kurt Angle – would you kindly come and join me?

[Kurt Angle's music kicks in and he walks out determinedly. In what appears to be a recurring theme for the night, Angle is wearing his street clothes rather than wrestling gear...]

BISCHOFF

Kurt, the people of TNA like to see great wrestling, as well as great talking. You'd not believe me if I told you – but I've seen wrestling shows where the matches don't last longer than five minutes. Max. Oh, it's true!

[Angle laughs at Bischoff's playful gibe and the crowd begin another 'TNA' chant...]

BISCHOFF

So...since we're having such a historic night – how about Kurt Angle in a match...here...tonight...

...against AJ Styles for the TNA World Heavyweight title!

[Angle nods in agreement, he likes the sound of that idea – and he's not alone, the crowd are going wild!]

BISCHOFF

Well, don't you think you've got a match to prepare for!? Man, I love this job!

'The Pope' D'Angelo Dinero vs. Desmond Wolfe (w/Chelsea)

Desmond Wolfe came to the ring with another new addition to the TNA roster – his glamorous valet Chelsea. The contest itself was an open match between two of the fastest rising wrestlers in TNA. Great wrestling from both left the regular iMPACT! Zone fans chanting 'This is Awesome' and 'TNA' for the majority of the near ten minutes the match went on. In the end it was an outside influence that would decide the contest – with Desmond Wolfe lining up a Thames Barrier wristlock the iMPACT! Zone suddenly stopped at a familiar sound...

Also Sprach Zarathustra – the Nature Boy is here in TNA!

As Wolfe looked on in amazement at the appearance of Flair, Dinero took his chance and a flash schoolboy roll-up just made the three count.

D'ANGELO DINERO wins in 9:39 via pinfall.

Match Rating: C

FLAIR

Woooooo! The Nature Boy Ric Flair has been backstage watching some of tonight's matches and the one that has impressed me the most is this one, right here...woooo!

I've got to admit - Desmond Wolfe, you might be British, but you came to the ring stylin' and profilin', woooo, just like the Nature Boy. And Chelsea...you better get ready, because Ric Flair rolls all night long. Just like that! Woooooo!

[Desmond Wolfe starts at last Flair's comment, which only serves to make the Nature Boy's grin even wider...]

FLAIR

D'Angelo...Pope...terrible name...but you've got the limousine ridin', jet flyin' look and the in-ring skills to match.

One of you boys is going to get a masterclass from the Nature Boy...woooo!...

But until I've decided which one of you that'll be, Chelsea – get ready to take a ride on Space Mountain, baby...woooooo! All. Night. Long.

[Chelsea can't decide whether she is flattered or disturbed, and she's not the only one. As Flair and the crowd woooo! all the way to the back the Pope and Wolfe remember they are still in the same ring. Who will Flair choose, and what will happen when he does!?]

Segment Rating: B

TENAY: Well we found out who owned the limo...

TENAY: Maybe another time, Taz. Right now we have our main event...

AJ Styles © vs. Kurt Angle

We may only be in the first week of the year but could we have just seen the match of the year? Certainly AJ Styles and Kurt Angle proved themselves more than capable of headlining the company's biggest event in its 8 year history. Angle's superb chain and mat wrestling were in stark contrast to the high-risk, fast-paced wrestling of champion Styles. Long even by TNA's TV standards, the match rattled along at a quick pace, full of near falls, near misses and breathtaking reversals. Angle kicked out of a Styles Clash, Styles kicked out of an Angle Slam, Kurt kicked out of a Pele kick, AJ struggled his way out of an Ankle Lock. Eventually after nearly twenty minutes, during which neither victor nor loser could be separated, AJ Styles hit what seemed like the fifth springboard 450 and an exhausted Angle couldn't kick out.

AJ STYLES wins in 19:25 via pinfall to retain the TNA World Heavyweight title.

Match Rating: B

TAZ: What an amazing, amazing, match. A monumental victory from AJ Styles.

TENAY: We're headed to a short break but when we get back we will see the moment we've all been waiting for.

TAZ: Whatcha' gonna' do!? Haha!

TENAY: That's right, the iMPACT! debut of the legend, Hulk Hogan...don't miss it...

[The iMPACT! Zone suddenly feels about ten times larger when the processed guitar of Hulk Hogan's theme tune hit the PA system. The shouts, cheers, and general jubilation of the TNA fans almost drowns out the theme altogether. The noise doubles when Hogan steps through the entrance way and he is sure to milk that reaction as he makes his slow walk to the ring...]

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/TNA/Cards/HulkHogan.jpg

HULK HOGAN

Well let me tell ya' somethin' TNA...Hulkamania's back, brothers!

You see dudes, I got a phone call from Easy E and Dixie Carter a few months ago and they layed it out straight. In professional wrestling, in 2010, there's only one place for the Hulkster and all the Hulkamaniacs, brother, and that's TNA!

You know, in the thirty years I've been doing this I've been to the top of the mountain more than once. I've wrestled the Ric Flairs, the Andrés, the Savages, the Lugers and yet, to be in TNA is one of the most exciting times of my life. In 1984, the World Wrestling Federation was way down here...

[Hogan moves his hand towards the floor, reversing the boos that emanated from the mention of the rival from 'Up North'...]

...and yet Hulkamania drove the company to the top, man. In 1993, World Championship Wrestling was down here...

[Hogan's hand moves marginally upwards...]

...and the Hulkamaniacs took it right to Hollywood, brothers. But you see, TNA is already up here...

[Hogan moves his hand way up, roughly level with his eyes...]

...and all it needs from Bischoff and Hogan is that last little push and then TNA will be that mountain. Thanks to the Dixie Carters, the Jeff Jarretts and the Styles, Angles, Samoa Joes, and all the other superstars in TNA, brother, this company is the hottest thing on the planet right now. We're raising the bar right now in professional wrestling and I've only got one question left...

Whatcha' gonna' do Vince McMahon, when Hulk Hogan, and all of the TNA-maniacs, run wild on you!?
