That Stinger-Flair promo at Fall Brawl was...wooooooo!....the moment of the night, right there. In fact, I could read that promo...All. Night. Long. Woooo!

Ahem. Great show, my friend and a few great surprises thrown in for good measure. Incidentally, who is this Canadian Power House and what right do they have to be rubbing shoulders with the mighty Power & Glory?

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 2 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Al Perez vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Al Perez!? Buy to the next round for Hotstuff...

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Mike Rotundo vs. Flyin' Brian

Rotundo won against Williams, Flyin' Brian lost to a fat man called Norman.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Scott Hall vs. Mystery Contestant

I like a good mystery...

Terry Funk vs. Junkyard Dog

As much as I'm not a huge Funk fan, JYD just isn't going to be a real contender anywhere high up the card. This isn't Houston you know! Unless the show is taped in Houston, in which case...

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair defends vs. 'Cowboy' Bob Orton

Wooooooooooooo!

JYD caught Funk with some right hands early on and then a headbutt sent Funk to the mat! Another headbutt and Funk exited the ring early on. The poor thing about this match is that there was no real chemistry between Funk and JYD. The crowd could tell that these two do worse facing each other than they normally do with everyone else. JYD got down on all fours and barked at Terry Funk! The crowd barked right along with the Junkyard Dog! Funk grabbed the legs of JYD when JYD stood back up and yanked the Dog outside the ring! He sends JYD to the ropes -- Sleeperhold! JYD's arms flail! The crowd tries to get behind JYD as the Junkyard Dog starts to slump. JYD falls to his knees as Funk leans into the Sleeperhold. The crowd starts clapping and stomping their feet! A 'JYD' chant goes through the audience! JYD starts getting energized by the crowd! He pushes up toward his feet -- Jawbreaker! Orton slams Flair to the ground using the bullrope and puts the boots to him! The match hasn't even started and Orton has the advantage! Orton pulls Flair up and escorts him down the ramp and into the ring. Orton follows him inside as the bell rings and he puts the boots to The Nature Boy! Saturday Week 3 September 1989</p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: <em>Cactus Jack</em> vs. Shane Douglas</p><p>

Next round to be Cactus vs Gilbert? Sounds cool if that's how it's planned.</p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: <em>The Dragonmaster</em> vs. Ole Anderson</p><p>

Since Muta doesn't seem to be in the tournament, I'm guessing Dragonmaster will be the J-Tex rep for it, so he picks up a win to keep them in the running and with bragging rights over the unnamed Horsemen.</p><p> </p><p>

Scott Hall vs. <em>Steve Williams</em></p><p>

It's seeming like Hall will be fodder around here, not quite a jobber but just a JTTS for the time being.</p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: <em>Norman The Lunatic</em> vs. Ranger Ross (Final First Round Match)</p><p>

Squash.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>The Samoan Swat Team</em> vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man</p><p>

No real reason, just figure they'll get a little shove in this case. Needs more heel Midnights!!</p><p> </p><p>

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. <em>Barry Windham</em></p><p>

Rough one to pick here, but I'm going with Barry just because he just came back.</p><p> </p><p>

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. <em>Lex Luger</em></p><p>

It won't be a clean win, meaning Ricky will keep the belt, but it'll be enough to force a rematch.</p><p> </p><p>

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. <em>Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting</em></p><p>

Just doesn't seem to be enough star power on the J-Tex side to pick up a win here.</p>

<p>Spent the last few months without internet access, which was hell. Glad to see you back in business with the 1989 NWA.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: <strong>Cactus Jack</strong> vs. Shane Douglas</p><p>

<em>I have never been able to buy Douglas as anything credible. Never an ECW fan, so he's always job fodder in my book.</em></p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Dragonmaster vs. <strong>Ole Anderson</strong></p><p>

<em>A battle of two old men. Ole's got a lot more to offer, both in the short- and long-term. Sure, he's probably approaching retirement, but he's always got that mouth on him, so it's good to keep him strong right to the end.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Scott Hall vs. <strong>Steve Williams</strong></p><p>

<em>Two guys that could use a bit more work on their Performance skills, before really going places. Hall is a JTTS, while Williams can be plugged into filler programs.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: <strong>Norman The Lunatic</strong> vs. Ranger Ross (Final First Round Match)</p><p>

<em>Fat guys don't get near enough love in wrestling.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Samoan Swat Team</strong> vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man</p><p>

<em>My dislike of Zed-Man was well documented last time around. Nothing's changed on that account. A Pillman heel turn, leading to a run with the Hollywood Blondes is always an enticing prospect.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. <strong>Barry Windham</strong></p><p>

<em>Bigelow is way down the card from Windham, who just received the returning hero treatment. If Flair's putting some Horsemen together to fight J-Tex, Windham is an obvious choice.</em></p><p> </p><p>

NWA United States Title Match: <strong>Ricky Steamboat</strong> defends vs. Lex Luger</p><p>

<em>Gotta love the Steamer getting the belt, and quick. If there's one guy to build a midcard around, it's always been the Dragon. Luger will do just fine without the belt, as he looks to get more involved up top.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting</p><p>

<em>Any time I see people as far down the card as Dragonmaster & Ole in a match with the big guns, it just screams draw to me. I can't see Dragonmaster beating Sting & Flair, not Ole getting the nod over Funk & Muta.</em></p>

Give it 6 or 7 years and this might do some business for a regional fed... not just now though. Cactus to progress.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Dragonmaster vs. Ole Anderson

Ole has more mileage left in him than Dragonmaster but this screams interference for me.

Scott Hall vs. Steve Williams

Last Call seems to be getting on most of the shows, but Dr. Death has more immediate upside.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 3 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Norman The Lunatic vs. Ranger Ross (Final First Round Match)

Would love to see Ranger Ross mount a serious challenge. But a Norman squash is on the cards.

The Samoan Swat Team vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man

A victory but not without more seeds of distrust being sown.

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Barry Windham

Good contest but Bigelow to shade it - new J-Tex member perhaps?

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Lex Luger

Never been a fan of hot potatoing title belts - Steamboat's not losing this one!

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting

A few intriguing possibilities await but I can see an immediate retribution for Ole in pinning The Dragonmaster.

Saturday Week 3 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Cactus Jack vs. Shane Douglas

Jack goes forward here

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Dragonmaster vs. Ole Anderson

Dragonmaster was barely seen in your last diary so I doubt he does much this time either

Scott Hall vs. Steve Williams

Williams gets a win after two losses

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 3 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Norman The Lunatic vs. Ranger Ross (Final First Round Match)

Norman has actually won a match.

The Samoan Swat Team vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man

Brian and Z-Man seens to have some troubles getting along.

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Barry Windham

Windham got a fair bit TV time in last show while I don´t remember Bigolow being in a main show so far.

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Lex Luger

Too early for a change

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting

Dragonmaster looks like the weakest link here but I doubt that Funk will get the title from Flair so he might get a feel good win here (and to build him up as a real threat)

Saturday Week 3 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Cactus Jack vs. Shane Douglas

Next round to be Cactus vs Gilbert? Sounds cool if that's how it's planned.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: The Dragonmaster vs. Ole Anderson

Since Muta doesn't seem to be in the tournament, I'm guessing Dragonmaster will be the J-Tex rep for it, so he picks up a win to keep them in the running and with bragging rights over the unnamed Horsemen.

Scott Hall vs. Steve Williams

It's seeming like Hall will be fodder around here, not quite a jobber but just a JTTS for the time being.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 3 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 1: Norman The Lunatic vs. Ranger Ross (Final First Round Match)

Squash.

The Samoan Swat Team vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man

No real reason, just figure they'll get a little shove in this case. Needs more heel Midnights!!

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Barry Windham

Rough one to pick here, but I'm going with Barry just because he just came back.

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Lex Luger

It won't be a clean win, meaning Ricky will keep the belt, but it'll be enough to force a rematch.

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting

Just doesn't seem to be enough star power on the J-Tex side to pick up a win here.

Thanks for the tips and comments, guys! Really appreciated!

Spent the last few months without internet access, which was hell. Glad to see you back in business with the 1989 NWA.

Glad to see you back and that your time without the internet is now gone! You definitely had a big influence on my NWA before.

Getting in quickly before the show :D Thanks for the warning, my friend!

That's why I do the 24 hour warnings. ;)

Speaking of which, the show should be posted sometime soon today.

[The show begins inside the Kansas State Fairgrounds where the 10,000 strong are standing tall. Cheers break through the crowd as 'Thus Spake Zarathustra' begins to play. The curtains part and out from the back walk Ric Flair, Sting and Ole Anderson! Sting and Ole are on seperate sides of Ric Flair as they walk down to the ring and step inside where Ric Flair is given a microphone.]

Ric Flair

"All the ladies in the audience take a good look at the three men standing in the ring before you because we will all be available after the show is over if you're in our league. Whoooooo. But before we get to the celebration, before we get to the party after the show we have to step into the ring against Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster."

[boos fill the audience at the mention of those names. Sting and Ole stare each other down for a moment and Sting asks for the microphone.]

Sting

"Ole Anderson, you and I have had a few misunderstandings here lately. I just want to let bygones be bygones. I want to shake your hand and go into this match tonight as a well-oiled machine."

[Ole gives Sting a look that basically asks if he is kidding. Sting extends his hand and Ole looks to Ric for a moment before taking Sting's hand and shaking. Ole leans in and speaks into the microphone]

Ole Anderson

"Let's kick some ass."

[The Horsemen theme music kicks up throughout the arena. The three men all raise their arms but will they do the same later on tonight?]

NWA World Television Title Tournament

Round 1

Norman The Lunatic vs. Ranger Ross

[Our opening matchup was one that the fans didn't really seem to care about. Norman came down with Theodore R. Long at ringside. Long had the large key to the insane asylum that he got Norman from around his neck. It's a reminder that Norman can be sent back at any time. As Norman came down to the ring, a fan was holding up a sign reading: 'Norman: Marry Me!' Norman looked a little flustered as he made it down the rest of the way to the ring. Norman dominated this matchup against Ranger Ross, despite the constant U.S.A. chants. Norman finished off Ross with a sit-down senton splash pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Norman The Lunatic (Via Pinfall @ 6:51)

[The backstage area is shown on video where the Steiners and Doom are brawling down a hallway! Security tries to step in and stop the two teams but security gets tossed out of the way! Scott slams Ron Simmon's head into the wall! Butch Reed hits a low blow on Rick Steiner! Security steps in again, this time with better success in keeping everyone back. What a wild fight! These two teams will meet at Halloween Havoc!]

The Samoan Swat Team vs. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man

[A definite case of power and strength versus speed and finesse. Z-Man started out quickly within this match against both members of the SST. He tagged out to Brian and Flyin Brian got caught when he went for a cross body. It was turned into a powerslam by Samu! Samu and Fatu double-teamed Brian in their corner, using headbutts and went for the double Savate Kick but Brian ducked! Brian tagged out to Z-Man. Z-Man came in and clotheslined down both Samu and Fatu! Z-Man kept up the momentum and then went into the corner and began stomping the mat. Samu got to his feet -- Superkick! Z-Man made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Flyin' Brian and Z-Man (Via Pinfall @ 6:52)

Match Rating: C+

[As soon as the bell sounded, the NWA World Tag Team Champions hit the ring! Z-Man was tossed from the ring and the Freebirds set up Brian -- Spiked Piledriver! The crowd booed as Brian was laid out in the center of the ring. The Fabulous Freebirds smiled as they rose their arms. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man are going to get a shot at the belts at Halloween Havoc!]

['I AM IRON MAN!'

The crowd breaks out in cheers as Hawk and Animal, the Road Warriors walk out from the back wearing their big spiked shoulderpads. They enter the ring and Animal grabs a microphone.]

Road Warrior Animal

"WWWEEELLLLLL! You know everyone here knows that the Skyscrapers are two big and bad men. But you are looking at the two biggest and the two baddest men on the planet! You're looking at the Road Warriors right here in the center of this ring. If the Skyscrapers want a contract with us at Halloween Havoc? They want to face the Road Warriors? Well, they just got ranked at the top of the stupid list. Tell 'em Hawk!"

Road Warrior Hawk

"Sid Vicious, Dan Spivey, Teddy Long, listen up and listen good. We're not two geeks walking down the street. We're The Road Warriors. We're the two biggest dogs in this wrestling yard. Animal and I are going to put the two of you punks in the hospital. Then it's gonna be OOHH WHAT A RUSH to the NWA World Tag Team Titles!"

[The Road Warriors hit each other and flex and we head to another video.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/bambambigelow.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/barrywindham2.jpg

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Barry Windham

[A hard-hitting contest right here on NWA's World Championship Wrestling! These two men traded stiff blows early and often against one another in a fairly even rated contest. The crowd really got into this battle, though, as Bigelow took time to taunt the members of the audience when he had control. Bigelow missed a diving headbutt off the top turnbuckle and this gave the crowd reason to cheer as Windham got to his feet. He took Bigelow into the corner with punches and then hooked him up -- Running Bulldog! Windham made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Barry Windham (Via Pinfall @ 7:16)

Match Rating: B

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/cactusjack3.jpg

[Windham got the pinfall but he was immediately assaulted by his second round opponent in the NWA World Television Title Tournament: Cactus Jack! Cactus took Barry Windham over the top rope with a Cactus Clothesline and then got on the apron -- BANG BANG ELBOW! Security and other staff members came running out but the damage was already done.]

NWA United States Title Match

Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Lex Luger

[both of these men have the credentials and the following to make an excellent match and neither of them disappointed the fans in this rematch for the NWA United States title. This match could have easily been the main event tonight with the way the fans reacted to it. The Dragon took control early within the bout with some strong chops to the granite-like chest of Luger. The Total Package came back with some punches and a big clothesline that took Steamboat down to the mat. Luger picked up Steamboat and raised him above his head military press style before dropping The Dragon down to the mat. Luger made a quick cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Luger got up and taunted the crowd by flexing. The crowd covered him in boos!]

[Luger yanked Steamboat to his feet and continued to work over the United States Champion with a huge backbreaker and a gutwrench suplex. The crowd tried to get the Dragon back into the match with a 'Steamboat' chant! Luger responded by throwing Steamboat over the top rope but Steamboat held on to the top rope! He flipped his way back into the ring and ducked a clothesline from Luger! He lit up Luger's chest with chops once again! He caught Luger with a spinning wheel kick! He pulled Luger up and sent him to the ropes -- Dropkick! Steamboat made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Luger powered out! Steamboat pulled Luger up and knocked him back in the corner. Steamboat climbed the turnbuckles and began throwing punches! You can guess how many punches he threw! Steamboat dropped down after ten punches and then sent Luger down with an armdrag. Luger popped right back up and charged at Steamboat -- sweep the leg! Steamboat took Luger down with a big legsweep! He slipped out of the ring and climbed the turnbuckles, waiting for Luger to reach his feet. When Luger did, Steamboat leaped -- Flying Body Press! Steamboat turned it into a pinfall, hooking the leg:]

Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster vs. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Sting

[it's main event time and what a slobberknocker of a main event we have for you this evening. It's a six man tag featuring six of the top athletes here in the National Wrestling Alliance. As soon as all six men hit the ring, pandemonium broke loose as Ole and Dragonmaster fought, Flair and Funk fought and Sting and The Great Muta fought! Muta caught Sting with a roundhouse kick to the back of the head and then turned to help Dragonmaster with Ole Anderson. Things calmed down a little with the help of the official and we were left with Ole and Dragonmaster in the ring. The Dragonmaster caught Ole with some lightning fast kicks and then took him down with a dropkick! The Dragonmaster tagged out to the undefeated Great Muta. Muta took down Ole with a body slam and then climbed the turnbuckles -- Moonsault -- missed! Ole rolled out of the way of the Moonsault and then moved over and tagged in Ric Flair! A chorus of 'Whooooo's' met the entrance of the Nature Boy! Flair took Muta over into a corner and began chopping his chest, hearing the 'Whooooooo's' echo with each chop! Flair tugged Muta out of the corner and hooked him -- standing vertical suplex! Flair made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!]

[Flair pulled Muta to his feet and sent him to the ropes -- Muta did a cartwheel and then a flying back elbow connected with Flair, knocking the Nature Boy out of the ring and to the floor. Muta looked outside the ring for a moment and then bounced off the ropes -- suicide dive outside the ring onto Flair! What a move by the Pearl of the Orient! Muta picks up Flair and tosses him back in the ring, re-joining him inside the ring. Muta grabs Flair and whips him into the turnbuckle -- Flair flips up and over the turnbuckle and runs along the apron -- heel kick by Muta sends Flair down to the apron! Flair rolls back in the ring and Muta tags out to Terry Funk as Sting and Ole Anderson try to get the crowd into the match on the side of Ric Flair.]

[Funk tries to punish the Nature Boy with slaps and a few stomps for good measure. The crowd really boos this line of work as almost humiliating for The Nature Boy. Funk pulls Flair to his feet and brings him down with a perfectly executed Butterfly Suplex! Funk moves quickly and locks a rear chinlock on The Nature Boy. Funk tells the referee to ask Flair to give it up but Flair is not likely to do so! Funk tightens in the hold and Flair cries out in pain. Sting and Ole begin hitting the turnbuckle, getting the crowd to clap and stomp their feet! The energy from the crowd feeds into Ric Flair and he begins pushing his way up! Funk's eyes go wide and Flair lifts him up -- Belly to Back Suplex! Both men lie on the mat breathing heavy. Both men begin crawling toward their corners. Sting and Ole have their hands outstretched on one side and The Dragonmaster and The Great Muta have their hands outstretched on the other side. Funk tags in Muta! Muta comes running in -- Flair tags in Sting!]

[The crowd goes wild for the Stinger as he comes in with fists a blazing! He takes down Muta with a clothesline and then takes Dragonmaster and Funk off the apron! Flair and Ole come back in and it's a pier six brawl all over again! Sting takes down Muta with a swinging neckbreaker! He lifts Muta and whips him into the turnbuckle and then backs up to the far buckle. He looks across and begins running toward the corner -- Stinger Splash -- NO! Muta moved out of the way! Sting's head hit the ring post behind the turnbuckle! Sting turns -- GREEN MIST! GREEN MIST! GREEN MIST! Sting is absolutely blinded by the mist attack of the Great Muta. Muta climbs the turnbuckles -- Moonsault Press! Referee Tommy Young turns and sees Muta making the cover:]

...3!]

Winners: Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster (Via Pinfall @ 18:13)

Match Rating: A

[The Great Muta has stolen a victory from Sting here tonight! Ole Anderson and Ric Flair re-enter the ring after taking the advantage outside the ring. Muta rolls out, getting his arm raised! Ole looks UPSET. He begins yelling at Sting, wondering just what happened! Ole leans over and slaps Sting across the face! Ric Flair steps in as mediator between the two keeping Ole back. That's all the time we have for you tonight. We'll see you next week!]

A quiet little debut for 'Stunning' Steve.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Cactus Jack vs. Barry Windham

This is a pretty tough match to call. This is done for storyline reasons, as you really seem to want to push Cactus through this tourney. Windham already has a name, so he'll bounce back just fine.

Thanks for the tips and comments, guys! Just like last time, all comments are definitely taken into consideration for the future.

Liking this wrestling was much better back then.

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying this so far. I agree that wrestling was so much better back in these days. Hoping to work on the card tonight and just might be able to get the 24 hour warning up tomorrow and the card out on Wednesday.
