Mitch Y Bryson: Folks, welcome to Beachfront Breakdown! We're straight into the action tonight in a jampacked card!

Frank Mucciolio: And what a way to start a night! Lanny Williams and Harry Simonson - this is going to be awesome!

Harry Simonson vs. Lanny Williams with Sean Quartermainne

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btjVnTLn6og?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z-hEyVQDRA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

MB: Harry has had a poor year so far, and with Quartermainne looking out for Williams you could say it doesn't look so good.

FM: Lanny is a genius on the ground, and Harry's entire game is in the standing up brawling. If Lanny takes him down, it's over.

The action: The commentators were correct - this match featured two old foes, and both have their own very distinct styles. Simonson stood Williams up, rocking him around the ring and not giving him time to breathe. Lanny could get nothing going until Simonson strayed too close to Quartermainne, and found himself tripped up. Williams was right on him, locking in a figure four leg lock and forcing a submission. Harry goes 1-2 for the year - not good.

Rating: 48 / D+ - a noticeable lack of chemistry hurt this match.

MB: Referee! No way can you give that to Williams - he was being dominated throughout!

FM: It all comes down to the tap at the end - Harry should simply stop being so clumsy!

MB: How long are The Masters going to get away with this?

MB: Horne is huge, and Peterson is right to look frightened.

FM: Horne is on some momentum after winning last month - could he repeat his success here?

The Action: No, he can't. Peterson is far too good, and this match is over in about seven minutes. Debonair David Peterson takes the win.

Rating: 22 / E- - Void of chemistry again.

MB: I'm getting word that Lucien Wilder has managed to capture The Masters and Sean Quartermainne backstage, fresh after Peterson's match. Let's go live over there.

Lucien Wilder with The Masters and Sean Quartermainne

Peterson is still breathing heavily, and despite his win earlier, Williams doesn't look like he's too thrilled at being questioned. Quartermainne steps forward, his trademark stern frown on his face.

Lucien Wilder: Ladies and gentlemen, my guests at this time - The Masters. Sean, you've seen your boys both pick up wins tonight. This is impressive, especially coming off a loss last month against the Bl-

Sean Quartermainne: Do NOT say their names. I am absolutely not here to discuss those nasty little idiots. They retained their title in dubious circumstances - pulling hair is not something that a professional would do.

LW: With all due respect, he wasn't grabbing hair when he submi-

SQ: Are you joking? You are questioning me, with The Masters stood behind me? I'll say one thing - the Blondes can tart around with their belts. Soon, the Masters will get their FAIR rematch - and the titles will be theirs.

With a solemn nod between all three members of The Masters, they walk out of shot.

FM: How has Lucien not been laid out yet?

MB: He's not the smoothest talker we've ever had, put it that way..

Rating: 48 / D+

MB: Up next we see upstart Alyx Macquarie in singles action. But I'd be willing to bet the action won't stay single for long.

FM: Dingo Devine - "The Suplex" Master - should put him away easily.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/alyxmacquarie.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/vs.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/dingodevine.jpg

Alyx Macquarie vs. Dingo Devine

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPnel7P8jek?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18C8Wr1eUdE?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

The Action: You would expect Dingo to do the job here, and he started off exceptionally well with a chain of suplexes ending in a near fall. Macquarie got fired up though, and surprisingly we saw nothing of Cole Taylor. Alyx went off like a thing possessed; his blood was obviously up; and he showed a punishing offence that had Devine reeling. The end came with a Superkick straight to Dingo's chin - a shockingly clean win for Macquarie.

MB: I'm stunned..

FM: I knew there was something awesome about the Rebels. A massive win for Alyx - he can absolutely move when he has to!

MB: Well, after that shocker let's go backstage where Mr. Wilder has Swoop McCarthy ahead of his title match tonight.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/lucienwilder.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/with.pnghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/swoopmccarthy.jpg

Swoop looks busy and preoccupied throughout, but is ever the professional. Swinging his arms and occasionally jumping on the spot, he is his true distracting self.

Lucien Wilder: Swoop, you’re used to being a man in demand, but very rarely a man on the run. This rejuvenation that Killdozer has had over the last few months has set him on a collision course with you tonight. You’re even taking him on in a tables match – his speciality. What is your plan of action to make sure you take home your title?

Swoop McCarthy: It’s non DQ – but of course I wouldn’t resort to that crap unlike some people we saw earlier tonight. Killdozer.. Nathan Mackenzie.. thinks he can just bully everyone around in APW. It’s time we took a stand tonight. This is a rallying call to the troops in the APW locker room – I don’t want you to interfere with my match – but I want you to stand up to him in the next few months if he does manage to ruin me tonight.

LW: Some say this could be a career ender for you?

SM: There’s a reason his 300lb Spear is one of the most feared moves in wrestling today. It’s like stepping in front of a bus. Combine that with the splintering impact of a table, and it absolutely could be a career ender. Either way, his beef with me ends tonight.

LW: Where next, if he does beat you tonight?

Wilder is stared at in a rather hostile fashion, but Swoop is a realist.

SM: If he beats me tonight, I will win my belt back as soon as possible. Killdozer has made an awful lot of enemies – and if we look at the bigger picture – it’s going to bite him in the arse. Our little chapter though... the little book of “Swoop kicking Killdozer square in the head, then DDTing him off the apron through the table” – it’s a working title – that chapter ends tonight.

MB: Strong, strong words for the champ. One of those men will leave in an ambulance tonight.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/coletaylor.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/vs.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/rickstantz.jpg

Cole Taylor vs. Rick Stantz

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw1Fm61HBA8?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1sYomH-gkA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

The Action: It's almost as if the Rebels were honourable tonight and refused to interfere unless it was absolutely necessary. Taylor came out looking good and took it to Stantz. Truth be told though, he never looked convincing and Rick is just too convincing. Rick had Taylor down and set up for the Flying Elbow, when Macquarie appeared out of the crowd and knocked him off the turnbuckle. The referee called for the bell, and awarded the match to Rick. The Rebels seemed nonplussed - it appears that avoiding damage is their main intention. But for what?

MB: So, a championship match up next! Stan Standish will put his APW Australian title on the line.

FM: I can tell you he is NOT happy about having to do this - he told me Smithson has done nothing to earn this shot and that Stan will love nothing more than to put him away tonight.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/stanstandish.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/maxforbes.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/vs.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/boosmithson.jpg

Stan Standish with Max Forbes vs. Boo Smithson

APW Australian Title Match

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DyUkEmAruA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI8R8fIPH28?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

The Action: There is no doubting that Smithson is an outstanding talent, but where he falls short is getting the crowd onside. There were two points in this match where if he'd had them in his pocket, chances are he would have taken the win. The first came when he had the Chickenwing Crossface locked in - but managed to gas out his arms and had to release it. With a bit of crowd support, he could have powered through it. The second was as Standish set up for this Highbreed Knee Drop - a knee drop from the second rope. Who knows - if the crowd had been roaring would Boo have known to roll out of the way? As it goes, he didn't - and he found himself pinned for the three. Standish retains.

MB: Smithson will be absolutely distraught tonight. That title belt was his chance to get something good in his life again.

FM: A tragic character - but if he got himself a haircut and a wash, surely things would get better? Why doesn't he learn?

Swoop McCarthy vs. Killdozer

Tables match for the APW Commonwealth title

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS0hAokxDSA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDJh6Ofkduw?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

MB: Our main event tonight - a tables match. McCarthy requested this so that he'd get Dozer in a fair fight - but how fair a fight can this be, Frank?

FM: He's a brave guy - but also possibly very stupid. McCarthy will have to do something special - Dozer has an affinity with tables and will relish the pain he's going to cause tonight.

The Action: A massive match months in the building - and a real chance for these men to blow off the anger that they feel against each other. Killdozer made this a statement of intent from his entrance - coming down to the ring with two tables and setting them up on top of each other at ringside. McCarthy, full credit to him, stood his ground, and the two brawled around the ring for a long time. They teased the crowd with a few near misses - including an exact copycat of Dozer missing the spear from a few weeks ago. The difference this time - he didn't go through the table. The end came swiftly and shockingly. McCarthy went up to the turnbuckle to try to clothesline Dozer after having no success grounding the giant. Killdozer is deceptively quick, though, and met McCarthy there with a hand around the champ's throat. In a truly crazy bump, which has legitimately injured McCarthy, Swoop went up and outside - through the two tables Dozer had stacked at the very start. Killdozer wins the APW Commonwealth championship.

MB: Swoop's dead! He's dead! You cannot survive something like that!

FM: We have a new champion - but will our last one ever walk again?

The EMTs rush down, immobilising Swoop's injured neck and strapping him down - as Killdozer celebrates over his ruptured opponent.

"Swoop's faking it, right?"

Many around Oz have hypothesised that Swoop's reported injury is just that - a report. After all, he lost his belt and was smashed to bits in one night. Who would want to show up for work after that?

Many claim that wrestling is fake and that there are no injuries suffered. Well, I can immediately rebuke that one. Yes, we try to do things safely - after all, why would you want to permanently cripple someone who you could beat easily next time? So yes, sometimes we take it easy on others - but it's all designed to put someone down for the three in the end.

Swoop's spectacularly crazy bump was something you don't see often. You don't really see someone take that much punishment - especially not out of PSW/DAVElites over in the States. His championship reign was a good one, so I thought it was very appropriate that it took something of that magnitude to take the belt from him.

Unfortunately, Swoop suffered a severe whiplash injury from it, as part of the table's metal structure managed to wrap itself around his head. He's walking, talking and all that stuff - he could probably compete at Caged Showdown - but is it worth risking the future of the continent on one match?

APW have decided no, and he'll have next month off. Will this fuel his desire for revenge?

Wrestling fans all over Australia hope so.

~ Lucien Wilder, April 2010.

Card for APW's Caged Showdown

It's time for the only night of the year where there's no escape, no nonsense, and only one way out. APW's Caged Showdown is the only wrestling event in the world where every match is fought in a steel cage.

Killdozer vs. Harry Simonson vs. Blake Belushi || Cage Match for the APW Commonwealth title - APW management are said to be furious at Dozer's maiming of Swoop McCarthy in their tables match, and have demanded he put the belt on the line immediately. Will Simonson and tag champion Belushi team up for the greater good?

Boo Smithson vs. Lanny Williams || The two best ground workers in the company go toe to toe in an unforgiving steel structure.

Alyx Macquarie vs. Vance Sturt || The East Coast Rebels are still being kept apart for the good of the promotion - can Sturt dent Alyx's hopes?

Stan Standish vs. Rick Stantz || If Rick takes this match, a fight for the APW Australian title is his next month. Can Standish avoid having to fight one of the Blondes?

Debonair David Peterson vs. Motty Kuroda || The cage will suit a flyer - but DDP is to an aerial worker what a SAM site is to a jet. A big clash of styles - one mistake will seal it.

Killdozer vs. Harry Simonson vs. Blake Belushi

Killdozer won´t lose the belt on his first defense

Boo Smithson vs. Lanny Williams

Williams have bigger push right now and he also has someone to do the talking part while Boo is on his own.

Alyx Macquarie vs. Vance Sturt

Sturt lost to Horne what else do I have to know?

Stan Standish vs. Rick Stantz

Stantz gets a win and a title match

Debonair David Peterson vs. Motty Kuroda

DDP is too far above Kuroda on overness

Killdozer vs. Harry Simonson vs. Blake Belushi

Killdozer retains in first defense.

Boo Smithson vs. Lanny Williams

Boo is really a gatekeeper. Good to get good matches out of if you can keep him relevant, and can do good things with young workers. Not going over Lanny though.

Alyx Macquarie vs. Vance Sturt

Sturt isn't gonna beat anyone until he turns heel.

Stan Standish vs. Rick Stantz

With Belushi losing in the title match, Stantz will need to keep some momentum up for the Blondes.

Debonair David Peterson vs. Motty Kuroda

I really like the Rising Suns, but Motty isn't nearly ready to go over DDP.

Mitch Y Bryson: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to APW's Caged Showdown! Tonight, you will bear witness to the only event in the world where every match will take place within a steel cage! Pinfalls and submissions still count - but there will be no interference and no nonsense! I'm here with Frank Mucciolo and we're ready to call what should be an amazing night. Frank, who are you thinking will take our main event - a match for the APW Commonwealth title?

Frank Mucciolo: There is only one possible winner, and that's Killdozer. The guy is a genetic freak, and Simonson and Belushi are trapped in there with him. There is no way either of those pretenders can come close.

MB: Well, as fascinating as it is to discuss things with you, we're heading straight into our first match tonight. Debonair David Peterson faces down a rather overmatched Motty Kuroda, and as both men are locked into the cage, let's see what Motty can do.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/mottykuroda.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/vs.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/debonairdavidpeterson.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/seanquartermainne.jpg

Motty Kuroda vs. Debonair David Peterson with Sean Quartermainne

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYxT9GM0fQ?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxAm8Y1w6BI?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

The action: Motty obviously enjoys this kind of environment, and used it to showcase his flying skills. We saw numerous flips using the sides of the cage, including a Matrix-style backflip that truly had Peterson floundering. For once, Quartermainne was a non factor; but let's be honest - if you picked Motty to win this you've not seen how good David truly is. Peterson eventually swept Kuroda out of the air, and ground and pound him to dust. A Hangman's Neckbreaker swiftly followed, and that was all she wrote. DDP wins.

Rating: 39 / D-

MB: A dominant win there for Peterson, and he looks thoroughly pleased with himself as he leaves Kuroda a shell in the cage.

FM: So, when are he and Lanny getting another tag title shot?

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/harrysimonson.jpg

Harry Simonson

A sleek black car pulls up backstage, and parks. As Mitch speaks, the door opens and the figure inside steps out. It isn't Swoop. Sorry.

MB: I'm being informed that you can all see backstage now and that.. yes, there it is. Harry Simonson has just arrived backstage and we're hoping that Lucien Wilder is about to grab him for an interview.

Well, that's what was hoped for, anyway.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/killdozer.jpg

Killdozer blindsides him, takes him down and throws him into the car. After delivering some stiff chops to Harry's chest, he lifts him up and samoan drops him onto the concrete. As a horrified Lucien Wilder looks on, Dozer exits the scene and leaves Harry a mess on the floor.

FM: And if you didn't expect that, you've got a 300lb Spear coming your way. Killdozer is ready and isn't going to let anyone take that belt from him.

MB: God help us all.

Rating: 53 / D+

Stan Standish with Max Forbes vs. Rick Stantz

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DyUkEmAruA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1sYomH-gkA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

MB: An intriguiging match here - Rick Stantz will get a championship shot at Stan Standish at a time of his choosing if he wins here. Standish has proven resilient, but has a 1-3 record this year.

FM: Stantz already has a championship - how is this fair?

MB: And that brings up an interesting question - what if Stantz wins the Australian championship sometime in the future? Will he prioritise his team with the Blondes or the belt?

FM: I know what I'd do.

The action: A pretty decent match which gives us some hope for the future. These two are clearly future headliners for the promotion. Standish is good, but not quite on the level of Stantz, so we saw plenty of cheap shots and low blows in this non DQ match. However, when you're outmatched and have no chance of outside help, you can only hang on for so long. Despite shouts from Forbes, Standish gets disorientated and pulled apart, before Rick submits him with that sharpshooter/neck pull combo we saw Blake use before. Standish submits.

MB: And Rick Stantz has earned himself an Australian title shot at any event of his choosing! A huge win for the Blonde!

Blake Belushi and Steph Drucker with Rick Stantz

MB: Here comes Blake and Steph to congratulate Rick!

Again, that was the intention.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/killdozer.jpg

MB: Oh god no!

FM: Run, Steph!

Killdozer, mentally off as he is, ignores Steph. He goes straight for Belushi, and spears him into the ground. He stomps some holes into the poor Blonde, while Rick takes his time making it out of the ring to try to head him off. Dozer leaves as quickly as he appeared, the deed done.

FM: I told you Dozer was going to win tonight.

Alyx Macquarie vs. Vance Sturt

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OgH3B49_E4?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z-hEyVQDRA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

MB: What can Macquarie do without his partner getting involved?

FM: Sturt is a creepy little man.. let's hope the Rebel puts him out of commission.

The action: Sturt isn't terrible, but he's not in Alyx's class and Macquarie has kicked it up a notch. Undefeated this year, the kid has momentum, and showed it. Alyx needed no trickery or anything to take an easy win. The match was marred badly by an ugly botch on the finisher, where Vance Sturt simply fell off the turnbuckle rather than being Superplexed off - and inexperienced Alyx simply couldn't work out where to go from there.

Rating: 33 / E+

Boo Smithson vs. Lanny Williams with Sean Quartermainne

<object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI8R8fIPH28?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/space.png <object width="27" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z-hEyVQDRA?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="27" height="25"></object>

MB: Frank, Lanny Williams went on record earlier in the week, claiming he wanted to refuse this match as no-one wants to be locked in with a hobo.

FM: I agree.

MB: Could it be that he's actually afraid of the tremendous submission skills that Smithson posesses?

FM: Absolutely not. Williams is a technical master, and he'll take Boo apart.

The action: A superb match, with a massive amount of chemistry between the two. Possibly one of the best matches seen on this continent - certainly the best in APW history - the two took the fight to the ground and tied each other in knots. The crowd lapped it up - but again, Boo needed some help from them and it simply wasn't there. He couldn't get fired up, and slipped into a figure four leglock and tapped out. Lanny wins. Boo needs something, or he's never going anywhere.

A hype video featuring Killdozer

A video is played which highlights Dozer's four month reign of terror. Repeat after repeat is shown of the splintering impacts, with a sepia toned slow motion clip of Swoop's whiplash causing fall from last month taking centre stage.

APW Commonwealth Championship Match

MB: A huge match. Dozer is outnumbered, but totally not outgunned.

FM: No way he loses.

The action: Simonson and Belushi are hurting. And bad. Belushi's ribs are taped from the spearing he recieved earlier, and he's left Steph backstage too. Simonson looks happier and engages with the crowd - but is evidently not 100%. The match is solid but nothing special, and goes to show how much Swoop is missed. Killdozer controls the match from start to finish - Belushi lasts about six minutes before he is speared out of commission and spends most of the remainder of the match on the floor. Simonson and Dozer do well, but you can't help but feel the danger element of the third man is rather missing. After twenty minutes, Dozer whips Simonson into the corner, and splashes him against the turnbuckle. Dozer sprints across the ring, off the ropes, and 300lb Spears Simonson. Harry is down and out - and Killdozer retains.

Rating: 51 / D+

MB: So I trust we'll get a fair rematch next month? What will Swoop have to say about this miscarriage of justice?

FM: [clearly delighted] Swoop? Swoop who? Killdozer - your worthy champion!

MB: You cannot be serious!

The internet broadcast cuts to the APW logo and ceases streaming as the commentators bicker about the legitimacy of the match.

Event Rating: 52 / D+

In Australian Pro Wrestling we believe in home grown, home developed and home trained workers. People like Boo Smithson – he’s come up through the ranks, training with APW staff since before APW even existed. This creates a brand loyalty – I would be shocked if he left us for RAW or ZEN, for instance.</p><p> </p><p> But the question still keeps getting posed – why aren’t you picking up free agents? Why is Maurice Jackson, for instance, sitting on the scrap heap; despite setting the independent shows alight?</p><p> </p><p> The talent policy we created when I joined the promotion was simple, and can be summed up like that of a night club. One in, one out. We’re a regional promotion and we’ve no plans to expand, so we won’t need to rush out and gather in more people. Our promotion makes money every single month. Why bloat the roster? Why create enemies across the region by stealing talent? That makes no sense to me.</p><p> </p><p> You may see more managers or announcers. Or referees. That’s just how we change things. But deep down, I think we have a core of APW workers that are very special, and that have gelled incredibly well. The backstage atmosphere is harmonious every single show, and why spoil that? Why risk losing everything on one overpaid RAW-made superstar? I can’t see the point.</p><p> </p><p> So, this is why we’re happy where we are and sticking with who we have. If we lose people, fine, we’ll do our damnedness to replace them. But we will not be talent raiding while I’m part of the team.</p><p> </p><p> That said.. I'm a little torn here. Lanny is the better option to win, obviously, but he's wrestling again later tonight, and Smithson is sure to get a good match out of the Top Qualifying match, so I'm going with Boo.</p><p> </p><p>

If Lanny goes over in the first bout, or if it lasts a while, I could see the Sons winning in an upset, but I dont' see that happening.</p><p> </p><p>

Mitch Y Bryson: We welcome viewers on the internet, and all the fans in attendance too, to our fifth event of 2010!

Frank Mucciolio: And it's absolutely my favourite. Every fan in attendance can help themselves to a free beer, courtesy of APW management - and I can tell you the atmosphere is jumping tonight.

MB: But with Swoop McCarthy out injured, and Killdozer banned from competing tonight - what on earth is going to happen?

Sean Quartermainne with Lanny Williams and Debonair David Peterson

Boos fill the arena as the APW Commissioner, Sean Quartermainne, steps out onto the ramp with his pet tag team behind him.

Sean Quartermainne: Yes, yes, boo and hiss. You're all so very original.

The boos intensify. Lanny goes over to the fans, seizes and destroys a fan sign.

SQ: Now, if you quieten down, I have a pretty big announcement to make that will change the APW.

A full plastic cup of beer is hurled at Sean, and the offender is hurriedly removed by security. Attendance is now 582.

Lanny Williams: Don't waste it, you stupid arseholes!

SQ: I am pleased to announce the event of the Summer - APW's Shot at the Top! This will be a six man elimination match, under tables, ladders and chairs rules! However, as an extra sweetener, each man can only be eliminated by going THROUGH a table. The winner will recieve an APW championship match of their choice, at any point in the year.

Sean pauses for a minute, letting the crowd take it in.

SQ: So tonight, we will have two qualifying matches for Shot at the Top. Firstly, Harry Simonson will take on Alyx Macquarie. And in our main event, Lanny Williams will get his chance to put that disgusting hobo Boo Smithson out of commission.

At more putting down of boo, the crowd become hostile - and The Masters and Sean make their exit.

FM: Huge news for APW fans - a brand new match and a brand new event! This is going to be awesome!

MB: But the odds are stacked to allow Lanny entry to the match.. how will Sean also ensure Peterson gets in too?

Rating: 40 / D- - a noticeable lack of chemistry hurt this match.

Harry Simonson vs. Alyx Macquarie with Cole Taylor

MB: Well, the Rebels are out in force. This could be a huge match for Macquarie - the Shot at the Top match would be the biggest of his career.

The Action: Simonson is a wily veteran, and knows that Cole Taylor would want to get involved to help Macquarie win. Knowing this, and knowing a DQ would get him into Shot at the Top - Simonson goes after Taylor immediately. Cole pleads, begs, prays for something to help him - and Harry looks like he's going to relent when BOOM! Headshot! Taylor goes down, and we have a fair fight. Macquarie looked really solid out there, and twice went to hit Simonson with his own Superkick. After 12 minutes..

MB: He can't be here! He's banned! He can't be in the arena!

FM: Killdozer's coming!

But he doesn't.. he doesn't appear. Harry, bewildered and ready for a fight with the behemoth, makes the mistake of turning his back on Macquarie, and when he gathers his wits he is smashed off his feet by a Superkick. Alyx slides over, covers him - and somehow Alyx Macquarie qualifies for the Shot at the Top match!

MB: No! Simonson screwed again by Killdozer!

FM: He didn't have his head on a swivel, and he got it kicked off! Fantastic awareness from Alyx!

The Masters with Sean Quartermainne vs. The Rising Sons

MB: A tag title shot is up for grabs here - but this is Lanny's first match of two tonight. Would you say a tag title shot, or a place in the Shot at the Top match is more important, Frank?

FM: For Lanny, Sean and Peterson - anything will do. They're good enough to take on anyone and win - they just need the stars to align for them.

The action: The Rising Sons are smooth, and I'm sure their time will come - but it's not now. The Masters run rings around them for the first five minutes, using every dirty trick in their expansive playbooks. Jimmy Stratosphere manages some semblance of a comeback, but that's quickly stopped when he goes for a 450 Splash off the turnbuckle. Peterson had smuggled in some brass knuckles, and played possum to slip them on. One huge uppercut later, and Stratosphere was pinned.

FM: The Masters win, and get a title shot of their choosing against the Blondes! This is awesome!

MB: This just puts more heat on Rick Stantz - how will he deal with it?

MB: We are going to head backstage, as we've heard there is a commotion going on with Harry Simonson after the cheap events of earlier.

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/harrysimonson.jpg

Harry is frantically searching for someone or something, and storming through doors. He's clearly absolutely furious throughout the search. Switchblade, of the Crime Wave tag team, tries to remonstrate with him, but gets a Headshot for free.

Finally, Harry finds his way to a single panel white door, and barges in.

Harry Simonson: Finally! There you are, lads. I think.... it's time.

MB: Well that tells us absolutely nothing. What do Boo Smithson and the Melbourne Blondes have to do with The Hitman?

FM: Is he not going to be arrested for randomly Headshotting Switchblade? That's just not on!

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/rickstantz.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/vs.jpghttp://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/roster/coletaylor.jpg

Rick Stantz vs. Cole Taylor

MB: Let's take a second to note that Cole Taylor has NOT been accompanied by his partner Alyx Macquarie.

FM: Why would you risk your Shot at the Top match by helping someone else? You could get injured! Macquarie has made absolutely the right decision here.

The action: Yup, Taylor is thrown to the wolves here. Rick is fired up, and completely demolishes him in a short match.

Rating: 42 / D

http://rathen.animebots.co.uk/tew/apw/2010/apwbanner.jpg

MB: Clinical stuff from Stantz - and now we get to see the other Blonde in singles action. This is an intriguing match - Standish is set to defend his title at some point in the near future against Rick - and can send a message with a win here.

Stan Standish vs. Blake Belushi

The action: Rick takes a minute to meet Blake and Steph, and tries to fire him up. It doesn't seem to work, and Blake seems listless and ineffective tonight. Steph tries to get him going, but Stan knows his title could go any time soon, and is absolutely on the top of his game. After about eleven minutes, Stan legsweeps Blake, and rebounds off the turnbuckle; smashing both his knees into Blake's forehead. A three count swiftly follows - Standish winning clean to the shock of everyone in attendance.

MB: Rick just absolutely put Blake off. Too much pressure on one young man can do that - and now Stan has some momentum for whenever Rick challenges him.

Boo Smithson vs. Lanny Williams with Sean Quartermainne

MB: It is time for our main event! We already know that Alyx Macquarie will compete at Shot at the Top - but which of these men will progress?

The action: Another technically excellent match full of drama. Big, back and forth action throughout, with neither man getting any form of dominance going. The end is abrupt and shocking. Sean Quartermainne slides a chair into the ring following an appropriately timed referee bump. Lanny goes to use it, but sees the referee stirring. He slams the chair to the ground and collapses, as if he had been hit. However, Boo isn't as stupid as he looks, and also crumples to give the appearance that he's been illegally hit! The referee comes to, sees both men down with a chair between them - and calls for a DRAW! Lanny and Boo both fly up, arguing with him, but the match is thrown out!

MB: My god! A draw! Does this mean they're both in, or neither?!

MB: Oh no - this is going to get nasty!

The Masters and their mentor advance on Boo - absolutely seething. He drops SQ with a right hand, but is quickly overwhelmed and life is going very badly for him.

The Alliance

MB: It's Simonson! And the Blondes! Here come the cavalry!

FM: They outnumber The Masters, this isn't a fair fight!

The Alliance clearly outnumber and outmuscle The Masters, and send them packing quickly and painfully. The show ends with Smithson, Simonson and the Blondes celebrating in the ring together with the fans cheering.
