Drug Testing?!?!?! Wow

Recommended Posts

I have never instituted drug testing in any of my promotions.. I know I sound like Vince and I am part of the problem not the solution...

BUT after the death of Road Warrior Hawk and Bob Orton Jr... Both in the midst of huge pushes.. I decided I need to do something. I decided to start out very slow with the lowest level policy.

In a couple of weeks, I have Dino Bravo and Road Warrior Animal busted for steroids, you would think the death of Hawk would have made him rethink it :)

I gave both a last warning and the "said" they would try to "clean" up.

Then Hulk Hogan got busted for "Hard Drugs" I gave him a stern warning and it said he "stormed out".

It's all being handled "in house" so no public damamge BUT... WOW, cant wait to see what unfolds next.. hehehehehe

Ive never had a real booze problem but at one point I had a nasty drinking club that I eliminated by banning drink backstage.

A few of the Aussies in particular were furious but it really helped.

Just about every wrestler in the 80's used recreational drugs, unfortunately. I don't know about other wrestlers' autobiographies, but if you've read Bret Hart's, it puts it into perspective about how bad it was. Coke was by far the drug of choice it seems.

As for wrestlers...I've always used drug testing, just because I want to lower the risk of having a big push end up dead. It's caused a ton of bad relationships though. I did have a surprise with a few. Scott Steiner would repeatedly test positive for 'roids and he would get pissed every time I'd fine him. I'd try a slap on the wrist, riot act, etc. It seemed that nothing would work with him. Finally one time I got sick of it and just ignored it...Well it worked! I got a message saying he was happy that I let him deal with the issue on his own and gave his word he'd clean up. Only time that's worked.

Savage always tests for roids and nothing works on him. Miss Elizabeth tested for hard drugs, I gave her the fatherly approach and she's now loyal to me. Sting + for hard drugs and gave him a last chance...He gave me his word that he'd clean up. Those are about the only ones that stand out. I wish I could find one that works for Savage though.

This is soemthing that seems to keep coming up with the 80s mods.

I'm not sure what 80's mod you're referring to but the only 80's mods I know made in the last 2 years (TGA & NHB) don't have Hogan set to anything but roids. It's the first time I've ever heard of it coming up tbh.

What do you do just keep fining them?

As a rule of thumb I implement the WWE's own RL strategy. 2 suspensions and a thirds violation sees them future endeavoured. That said Triple H has failed four tests on my WWE file and you know he didn't suffer the same fate as Chavo Guerrero. Eventually he stopped roiding after enough suspensions.

It all depends on a wrestler's personality, though. Some guys need to go deal with their issues privately, some will get clean after a weak punishment. You can get guys to stop the drugs/roids by doing different things. Some guys are nigh impossible to get clean though, no matter what you try (Bryan Vessey, Im looking at you)

Testing does help though - well only if you can get your guys clean as a result. If news of a wrestler's steroid or drug use goes public it can damage your company's prestige (I myself took a big hit after treating Kerry Von Erich's problem with kid gloves only for him to OD on me 2 days later. He survived but his stats and wwf's prestige suffered). At worst if you're not testing/dealing with drug issues any one of your top stars could up and die on you and that's a bad sitch for everyone

Even without bad press or dying or whatever though a guy who's using heavily can see his performance suffer a heck of a lot. Not sure about C-Verse wise but I know a few guys have seen key players in mods like Jake Roberts and mid-90s Shawn Michaels let them down badly because they can't keep a handle on their drug habits

Heh yeah sorry, perhaps I overdid drug-use for certain workers... but I can assure you that you're not the only one suffering, with people like Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Vader, to name a handful, also being severely hit.

I might look into tweaking it for the next release of my mod.

Yeah. Between Hennig being the highest paid colour commentator in history and Scott Hall being a drug zombie I totally screwed up the top end of my draft.
