David Otunga vs John Cena

Cena picks up a comfortable win.

Tyler Reks vs The Great Khali

Match of the year candidate here lol, Khali takes this.

Layla vs Eve

Michelle McCool helps Layla pick up another win for LayCool. I like what you guys are doing with LayCool, I'm expecting Kong to show up at some point to end the dominance.

Wade Barrett vs Rey Mysterio

Number 1 contender.

Jack Swagger vs The Undertaker

Swagger isn't going over Taker.

WWE SUPERSTARS!

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WWE%20Joint/Logos/SuperstarsPNG.png

AIRING ON WGN AMERICA ON 25/1/11

RECORDED IN FRONT OF 7,460 FANS

Arnold Hall, Miami FL

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Zack Ryder defeated Yoshi Tatsu in 6:42 by pinfall with a Zack Attack. C

In a short segment between matches we were taken backstage to the office of Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long. In the office Hornswoggle was standing on the desk, shouting incomprehensibly at Long. From the GM's responses it became clear that Hornswoggle wanted to be placed in the Royal Rumble. Long refused, giving a number of reasons, most of which centered around Hornswoggle's lack of height. Hornswoggle ended the segment by jumping at Long and locking in what could only be described as a sleeper hold. B-

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Alicia Fox and Team LayCool defeated Eve, Gail Kim and Rosa Mendes in 7:06 when Alicia Fox defeated Eve by pinfall with a Scissors Kick. C

It would appear that Mexican superstar Sin Cara has a lot of friends already in the WWE, having been the subject of a promo from John Cena two weeks ago. This week it was the turn of World Heavyweight Champion Edge who put over Sin Cara as the future of the WWE. C-

In a match that had some good action and average heat, "Dashing" Cody Rhodes defeated David Hart Smith in 13:32 by pinfall with a Cross Rhodes. B-

Once again Superstars would end with a short video package hyping the 2011 Royal Rumble, including our two announced World championship bouts – RAW's Randy Orton vs The Miz © and Smackdown's Edge © vs Wade Barrett! B+

OVERALL SHOW RATING: C+

After the show finished a graphic appeared on the screen, the logos of the WWE's two brands flicking between each other indicated that the winner of this week's Bragging Rights would be revealed....

There is little doubt that
John Cena vs David Otunga
opened this episode of Smackdown because the writers were worried about the fan's reaction to Cena's opponent. How wrong they were. The match was a Smackdown classic and David Otunga continues to impress after a fine perfomance against the man the fans call “Champ”. With the fans behind him John Cena was never going to lose – especially in the opening match of the show – but the open ten minute contest was one of his finest in recent weeks. In the end Cena's top-of-the-sport experience proved too much for Otunga and
Attitude Adjustment
in the eleventh minute was enough for the three count.

...What Makes This Company Great...

Rather than mock David Otunga for his rookie naivety John Cena grabbed a microphone and praised his opponent! Cena said that Otunga's performance in that match was what the youngsters in the WWE needed to do each and every night to further this industry. Cena explained that Otunga is not a nice guy, and his belief that The Nexus will propel him to the top is a foolish one, but one thing you can't fault is dedication and that is why the WWE is the greatest company in Sports Entertainment!

For the second week in a row The Nexus is the most established team in a match, a pretty loud statement about the current tag scene of the WWE.
The Nexus vs DH Smith & JTG
was a reasonable tag team encounter which was always going to struggle to stand up to the evening's opening bout. The Nexus continued to build up their tag experience while DH Smith and JTG looked happy to be on Smackdown again. Smith and JTG wrestled like they had only just met and the lack of cohesion would be their downfall, leaving JTG open to a match-winning
450° Splash
from Justin Gabriel just after the eight minute mark.

...Jamaican Point Of View...

We returned from the first ad break of the evening to see Kofi Kingston stood alongside Josh Mathews. Kingston cut a promo on his recent rivalry with Dolph Ziggler, reminding the WWE Universe that he won the Intercontinental title in fine fashion three weeks ago. The Jamaican superstar goes on to agree with Ziggler's suggestion that this feud should end at the Royal Rumble, but Kingston adds that it will be his elimination of Ziggler that will finish the rivalry, not the other way around!

Neither The Great Khali nor Tyler Reks are particularly well versed in mat wrestling. In fact, a few fans might even claim that The Great Khali isn't well versed in any form of wrestling. However, the big Indian knows how to entertain and
The Great Khali vs Tyler Reks
was a decent, if not spectacular, match. Six minutes was about the upper limit for these two competitors and Khali's match-winning
Vice Grip
was met with the biggest cheers of the match.

...A Challenge, Accepted?...

In what has become a regular event on Smackdown we were whisked from ringside to Teddy Long's office where the General Manager was in the middle of an argument with Jack Swagger. Swagger should have been happy – after all, he has finally got his match and it is in the main event. The “All-American American”, however, had just discovered that his opponent is none other than The Undertaker! Swagger looked desperate to find anyway of getting out of the contest, clearly nervous about facing the “Deadman” one-on-one. Long, however, merely laughed and told Swagger that in future, he better be careful what he wishes for!

...Battle Of Wits...

With just two days to go until the 2010 Royal Rumble it was little surprise to see Edge cut a promo about his title defense against Wade Barrett. Edge did well to put over the Englishman in a comedic way, while keeping the focus on himself and his own abilities. If it was a battle of promo skills the contest would be a close one – when it comes to wrestling skills who knows who will be victorious!?

A match between two Diva Search winners might not sound like a recipe for a decent wrestling match but both Eve and Layla have been putting in good performances of late.
Layla vs Eve
was a solid contest that was hurt only by the lack of heat from the fans who seemed more interested in the concession stands than the action in the ring. In the end Michelle McCool came to Layla's aid – again – sending Eve crashing to the mat when the referee wasn't looking and then holding her leg down during the pin, giving Layla a typically cheated victory.

...An Irishman's Revenge...

With our weekly dose of classic diva wrestling out of the way we headed backstage where John Cena was about to talk to Rosa Mendes. One would guess that his topic of conversation would be the Royal Rumble and his chances of winning but unfortunately for “The Champ” he was hitting by a
Brogue Kick
from behind before Mendes even had time to raise the microphone! The boot from Sheamus sent Cena crashing to the ground and the Irishman managed to get in a few more shots before the WWE Security team managed to drag him away from the injured Cena.

...A Match Worth Hyping...

Our semi-main event was just an ad break away but that didn't stop a short graphic playing hyping the match between Wade Barrett and Rey Mysterio, alongside our headliner of The Undertaker vs Jack Swagger.

...A Royal Rumble Promise...

With our final commercial break complete we returned to ringside to see “Dashing” Cody Rhodes joining Michael Cole and Matt Striker at the announce booth. Rhodes' feud with Mysterio has really begun to heat up over recent weeks and Rhodes would spend the entirety of the next match putting down the Mexican legend. Surprisingly Rhodes was content to let his words run riot this week and he didn't leave the desk to interfere at any point during the semi-main event.

Wade Barrett continued his impressive run on Smackdown with a fine victory over Mexican luchador Rey Mysterio. The fans expected
Wade Barrett vs Rey Mysterio
to be an excellent encounter and they were not mistaken – with Englishman and Mexican alike going for broke, knowing that a victory could spur them on to a title or Rumble win respectively. Wade Barrett's hunger for the win seemed unstoppable and it would take him to victory, much to Cody Rhodes delight, when he caught Mysterio's hurricanrana attempt and somehow reversed it into a
Wasteland.
Wade Barrett will be happy with his performance as well as the result, having matched Rey Mysterio for the entire ten minutes of their bout.

The Undertaker and Jack Swagger are both excellent technical wrestlers but that talent was thrown out of the window when Jack Swagger spent much of
The Undertaker vs Jack Swagger
wishing he was somewhere else. Desperate to end the match as soon as possible Swagger attempted every type of flash pinfall he could think of. When they all failed he tried to cheat any way he could, by tricking the referee, using the ropes and choking his opponent. When they also failed Swagger attempted to head backstage, nearly getting himself counted out in the process. He was dragged back by The Undertaker who showed the “All-American American” just why he had been at the top of the sport for so long. An eleventh minute
Tombstone Piledriver
was greeted by an enormous cheer as the Miami audience congratulated the “Deadman's” impressive victory.

...Get Ready To Rumble...

The show ends with another version of the Royal Rumble hype video. With the show only two days away the full 30 Rumble competitors are shown – even if a couple of them are still silhouetted. The video also served as a reminder for the show's title matches – Edge vs Wade Barrett, Randy Orton vs CM Punk and the four-way Divas title match between Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim and Michelle McCool.
