[The Royal Rumble traditionally begins with a bang and this show was no different. Edge vs Wade Barrett more than lived up to it's month of billing, with both men going all out to win. Edge definitely had the upper hand to begin with, using his experience to keep Barrett on the back foot. The Englishman took the fight outside of the ring, giving him a chance to fight back that he took gladly. As the match wore on stalemate locked in and the two were very evenly matched. In the end, this exciting opening encounter would be won by the champion, after he dropped behind Wade Barrett's Wasteland and hit a short-distance Spear for the victory.]

 

Winner: Edge (Via Pinfall @ 16:03; Edge retains the WWE World Title)

[The WWE Divas often get a hard time from fans who think them to be less talented than their male peers. Of the women on the roster, Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Gail Kim and Michelle McCool are definitely seen as some of the most talented wrestlers and they proved that here with an excellent four-way title match. Beth Phoenix vs Michelle McCool vs Gail Kim vs Natalya for the WWE Divas title managed to surpise the fans with it's high quality – especially given its unusual ending. All four women got in enough offence to look dangerous, with Beth Phoenix and Natalya standing out as the strongest of the group. In the end, however, no one would be able to take charge before chaos descended. The lights of the arena dimmed to a dull purple and a large woman appeared at the top of the ramp. Her braided hair fell across her face and she moved slowly towards the ring, captivating the four competitors inside the ring. The intruder climbed into the ring and began to attack, completely overpowering McCool and Kim before turning to Natalya and Beth Phoenix. As the referee signalled for the bell – ending the match as a draw – Phoenix and the Divas champ jumped from the ring, leaving Gail Kim alone with the monster!]

 

Winner: Draw (Via Outside Interference @ 9:37; Natalya retains the WWE Divas title)

[The fans couldn't believe the arrival of the monsterous diva stood in the centre of the ring...suddenly she lifted up Gail Kim...Implant Buster! The newcomer sat in the centre of the ring as the remaining divas wailed, cried and screamed about her shocking arrival. Suddenly, the woman's head tilted back and she burst into a cackling, maniacal laugh as a single word graced the TitanTron...Kharma!]

[As things are cleared up within the ring, we are taken backstage where Randy Orton is standing within his locker room. He punches the locker, pacing and noticeably limping on the leg that Alex Riley focused on last Monday night. Orton looks up toward the camera and says that tonight is all about him regaining what is rightfully his: The WWE title. When Miz won this title, he was in a weakened state. Tonight they are face to face and he is going to prove that he's better.]

[The big WWE Championship match here tonight between two of Raw's top wrestlers. Of course The Miz is accompanied to the ring by his assistant Alex Riley and Randy Orton comes down to the ring alone. The two men go face-to-face early on and then almost immediately come to blows! Within the first few minutes, both men go for their finishers with Orton nearly hitting the RKO and The Miz nearly reversing that into the Skull Crushing Finale, much as he did to win the WWE Championship back in November. Around five minutes in and the advantage has been sliding back and forth but now moves clearly into the corner of the WWE Champion with some outside interference by Alex Riley outside the ring. The Miz takes full advantage, focusing on the leg of Randy Orton that had been hurt by Alex Riley last Monday night. He locks Orton in the Figure 4 Leglock but Orton shakes his head, refusing to give in. The WWE Universe claps and cheers, trying to get Orton back into the game. Orton manages to reverse the pressure, prompting the hold to be released. But The Miz still has a definite advantage.]

 

[The Miz continues his strikes on Orton, including hitting him with a corner clothesline, swinging his legs around and playing to the crowd for a moment. He slides over into a cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! The Miz decides to go high-risk and heads for the top turnbuckle. He looks down at Orton as The Viper pulls himself to his feet. The Miz leaps -- punch to the gut by Orton! Orton grabs the ropes to keep himself standing but he gives The Miz a look that prompts Alex Riley to jump on the apron! Orton grabs Riley and slugs him, knocking him off the apron! The Miz charges but Orton flings him over the top rope and down onto the apron of the ring. Orton pulls The Miz in between the middle and top ropes, hooking him around the neck -- DDT! Orton looks around for a moment and then drops down, slamming his fists on the mat as the crowd goes wild! Orton gets up, waiting for The Miz to get to his feet -- RKO! -- NO! -- SKULL CRUSHING FINALE -- NO! -- RKO! Orton hits the RKO after several reversals! Orton makes the cover as the crowd counts: 1 -- 2 -- 3! We have a NEW WWE Champion!]

 

Winner: Randy Orton (Via Pinfall @ 16:18; Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship)

[As we continue the promos headed toward the Royal Rumble, Alberto Del Rio is shown standing in front of a WWE background. His name is Alberto Del Rio! But you already know that. He goes into his speech about how it is his destiny to win the Royal Rumble and move forward to face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. He already won the battle royal on Raw. It will be no different tonight. But you already know that.]

[Just moments away from the Royal Rumble match itself, we saw John Cena cut a short promo about his prospects heading into the match. Cena reminded the fans that he won the Rumble back in 2008, and it was his duty, his honour, to appear in the main event of Wrestlemania for the CeNation.]

[Now we head to another area where CM Punk is standing with a smile on his face. 29 other wrestlers? 29 other wrestlers is nothing when you're the best in the world at what you do like I am. Unlike those other 29 men, I am in the best shape, the best physical condition of my life. I could last from the beginning to the end. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I don't drink. I'm straight edge. What that means is that I am better than each and every wrestler in the WWE. Tonight I am going to prove that and I am going to do it all on my own.]

[First Two Men

Of course, the opening storyline within the Royal Rumble is just who would select #1 and #2. Those two men happened to be CM Punk and The Great Khali. Both of these men would survive the initial one on one encounter and as more wrestlers came into the ring, The Great Khali was eliminated early on in the match.]

 

["Dashing" Cody Rhodes/Rey Mysterio/Alberto Del Rio

Later on during the Royal Rumble match, it was apparent that Cody Rhodes was a little too preoccupied with going after the mask of Rey Mysterio. He kept Rey down in a corner and actually teamed up with Alberto Del Rio to attack and beat down the masked wrestler. But when Rey started to get back up and fight back, Del Rio backed off, leaving Cody Rhodes to deal with Mysterio. Rhodes was eliminated by Mysterio following a 619. Del Rio came up behind Mysterio and tossed the masked man of mystery over the top rope, celebrating as Mysterio skinned the cat. Mysterio came back in and eliminated one of the favorites in Alberto Del Rio! So back to back eliminations for Mysterio!]

 

[Surprise Entrants

One of the major attractions for the Royal Rumble is the addition of surprise entrants and possible returns. This Royal Rumble did not disappoint in that respect. There were several men in the ring when the sound of a horn honking came and out walked 'Big Daddy Cool' Diesel! Diesel got a good pop from the crowd when he came down. Another of the surprise entrants came soon after that with Booker T coming out to wrestle. He spent enough time in the ring for a spinarooni before he was eliminated. Yet another of the surprise entrants came out late. It was a shock to the crowd as we witnessed the return of Razor Ramon to the WWE! He teamed up with Diesel to make several eliminations, including R-Truth and Jack Swagger. Diesel also managed to eliminate Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler as they were both fighting near the ropes. The last surprise entrant didn't come until #30.]

 

[John Morrison

One of the most surreal sights at this year's Royal Rumble came courtesy of John Morrison. Morrison is doing battle with Big Show in the center of the ring when Big Show lifts him up in a press slam. He tosses Morrison over the top rope but Morrison catches himself on the guardrail and keeps both feet from touching the crowd! Morrison scales the guardrail and leaps to the stairs and then back inside the ring!]

 

[Daniel Bryan/William Regal

These two men are set to face off in a seven match series but their battle began right here at the Royal Rumble as they faced off in the ring. Things got a little messy with the other competitors and this allowed Daniel Bryan to catch Regal with a dropkick to the back of the head, eliminating him over the top rope to the floor.]

 

[Entrant #30

Anticipation built for the last entrant in the Royal Rumble. The fans were buzzing as wrestlers were doing battle in the ring, looking for more eliminations before that 30th man came out. The 30th man is none other than Christian! The crowd went wild for the returning Christian as he came running down to the ring and slid inside. He shocked everyone by eliminating Kane and Big Show as they were doing battle! Christian got a deafening crowd ovation from his peeps!]

 

[Final Four

The final four men left standing within the ring were Christian, Sheamus, John Cena and CM Punk. Christian and CM Punk engaged in a staredown, while Sheamus and John Cena battled over in a corner. The two arrogant men (Christian and CM Punk) began exchanging punches, though Punk's didn't have as much strength in them as he has been in the Royal Rumble since the beginning. Christian takes down Punk with a clothesline and goes for the KillSwitch but Punk fights free from it.

 

Meanwhile over in the corner, Cena lifts Sheamus up on his shoulders and moves for an elimination. Sheamus grabs the top rope, trying to hold on. Punk has managed to get an advantage on Christian and he charges Cena and Sheamus. He hits Cena but Cena still manages to eliminate Sheamus! We're down to three men! Punk and Cena exchange punches while Christian recovers in a corner. The brawl continues over near the ropes. CM Punk gets Cena up on the top rope with Cena trying to hold on. Christian sees the opportunity and moves over, grabbing CM Punk by the legs and lifting him up. Punk's eyes go wide, as do Cena's! Both Cena and Punk go over the top rope. Cena hits the floor but Punk lands on the apron. Punk grabs Christian by the head and tries to pull him over. Christian struggles, trying to fight free. Both men are perilously close to elimination. Christian throws some punches and shoves -- and out goes CM Punk! We have a winner!]

 

Winner: Christian (Via Stipulation @ 64:27)

Match Rating: B

 

[As Christian's music begins to play, he falls to his knees inside the ring. His arm is raised as he looks down and then slowly looks up toward the WrestleMania sign! Christian is definitely going to WrestleMania! What a surprise and what a way to end the show! Christian points toward the WrestleMania sign as we fade to black.]

[Our show begins with still pictures from the Royal Rumble. The pictures show scenes like Edge hitting Wade Barrett with a spear and Randy Orton hitting The Miz with an RKO. The next to last picture shows Christian eliminating CM Punk with the last picture showing the returning Christian standing tall with his arms raised in the air before we go to our normal Raw opening.]

[We head inside the Prairie Capital Center in Springfield, Illinois panning around the hot crowd here that is ready for some WWE Raw action! Joey Styles and Jerry Lawler welcome everyone to the show and talk about what a historic Royal Rumble it was that we just witnessed. Not only did we see the return of such wrestlers as Diesel and Razor Ramon but we also saw 'The Viper' Randy Orton walk away with the WWE Championship!]

 

["I HEAR VOICES IN MY HEAD!"

 

The crowd goes absolutely wild to the sound of 'Voices' by Rev Theory. After about thirty seconds, Randy Orton comes out from the back and raises the WWE Championship into the air. He walks right down to the ring and gets on the microphone. Of course he comments on doing exactly what he said he was going to do at the Royal Rumble and that's take the WWE Championship from The Miz. But beating The Miz is behind him. Right now he needs to focus on the fact that he is going to be the WWE Champion at WrestleMania. And at WrestleMania he is going to be facing the winner of Elimination Chamber. But he is more than prepared to strike at whoever wins Elimination Chamber like the Viper that he is. Orton goes to continue but he is interrupted by music that cites boos from the crowd.]

[it's CM Punk! This was the last man from Raw eliminated in the Royal Rumble! A fact that he immediately makes sure is known by all the fans in attendance and the fans watching all over the world. So he says he should not have to compete in the Elimination Chamber qualifying match next week. He should have the opportunity at the WWE title at WrestleMania automatically handed to him. Orton tells him that he doesn't have to wait until next week or even an hour from now. He can step into the ring and they can settle this right now. But CM Punk tells Orton he is too smart for that. That would be exactly what Orton wants and that is not what Orton is going to get. Punk says he is the only straight edge wrestler in the WWE and that means he's better than Randy Orton and he's going to prove it. The segment ends with CM Punk walking off as Orton stares him down.]

Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match]

Alberto Del Rio vs. Razor Ramon

 

[Our next match is a pretty decent match to open WWE Raw and is an Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match. Much like many of the matches on Raw, this one is a solid back and forth encounter with both men getting in a lot of offense. Del Rio's offense focuses in on the arm of Ramon. Ramon's offense focuses on the back and shoulders of Del Rio, including an abdominal stretch. Razor Ramon gets the advantage near the end and sets up Del Rio for the Razor's Edge. He lifts Del Rio up but his arm gives out and Del Rio just falls to his feet beside Ramon. Del Rio grabs the arm and twists into the Cross Armbreaker! Ramon struggles and fights but eventually has to tap out.]

 

Winner: Alberto Del Rio (Via Submission @ 10:21)

[Alberto Del Rio picks up the win but he doesn't seem to be satisfied with just the win as he does not release the hold! The referee tries to step in and get him to break it but Del Rio will NOT let go! The crowd boos this tactic but Del Rio and then cheers come when the sound of a bullhorn fills the air. All the attention turns to the entrance ramp.]

[it's Big Daddy Cool! Diesel comes running out from the back and climbs up on the apron. He steps in over the top rope as Del Rio finally releases the hold. Del Rio escapes through the ropes and smiles, raising his arms in victory as Diesel checks on Razor Ramon. Diesel helps Razor to his feet and the two stand side by side with Diesel raising the fist and Razor making the 'come here' motion. What a nostalgic moment!]

[We go from a happy nostalgic moment to, well, The Miz and Alex Riley backstage. The Miz is very unhappy about losing the WWE title at the Royal Rumble and begins berating Alex Riley, saying that he is the cause of the failure, not The Miz. And it won't be Randy Orton or CM Punk with the WWE title at WrestleMania. Who is it going be? The Miz, that's who. Because he is invoking his rematch clause at Elimination Chamber. This time he is going to make sure not to hold anything back against Orton. Oh and Alex Riley is going to do HIS job or there will be hell to pay! Because I'm The Miz and I'm....awesome!]

[Our second match of the evening is perhaps a little surprising in just how good it is. Both men showed a power game though the match was mostly focused on the Big Red Machine with the guidance of Paul Bearer at ringside. Kane takes down the large Ezekiel Jackson with a leaping clothesline and then sets him up -- Choke Slam! Ezekiel goes down to the mat and Kane makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Next week, Kane will face Diesel in an Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match!]

[As Kane celebrates, we head backstage to the office of our Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff. Eric is pushing papers when his door is slammed open by the presence of Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio walks up to Bischoff and begins ranting about the Royal Rumble and how it was his destiny to win the Royal Rumble and how that little Mexican chihauhau from Smackdown Rey Mysterio stole that destiny away. Bischoff asked him what he wanted him to do about it. Del Rio said that he wants permission to go to Smackdown this week and injure Rey Mysterio to make up for what happened. Bischoff is reluctant to agree but he finally does, saying that Del Rio better make a statement on Smackdown or there will be dire consequences.]

[A match that is mostly used to set up the fact that Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov will be facing two members of Legacy next week in defending the WWE Tag Team titles. The match here between Primo and Santino is not a great one, not even an average match. The ending of the match comes as Santino is preparing to hit the Cobra on Primo. Santino steps in and gets taken out from behind by Ted DiBiase! The interference causes a DQ.]

 

Winner: Santino Marella (Via Disqualification @ 9:28)

[The rest of the New Legacy come out and hit the ring, attacking Santino Marella. The crowd boos this attack, of course, with the numbers coming into play. Ted DiBiase drops Santino with Dream Street and Joe Hennig sets him up for a HennigPlex. Hennig is about to hit his move when other men come running from the back with Vickie Guerrero yelling to warn her men.]

[The new welcoming committee are Vladimir Kozlov and Big Show! Big Show will be facing Ted DiBiase later on this evening. The New Legacy head for the hills as the two larger athletes enter the ring. Kozlov checks on Santino as Big Show stares down the New Legacy. Big Show and Ted DiBiase is coming up later tonight!]

[We head backstage at this point to show Randy Orton walking down the hallway. The WWE Champion draws cheers from the crowd that turn into boos as he gets jumped from the side by Alex Riley! Riley has the element of surprise but that only works for so long before Orton begins fighting back. In the end, it is Alex Riley that is left laying on the ground with the Viper stomping a mudhole in him. Orton shakes his head and spits on Riley before walking off leaving Riley holding his ribs.]

[Another match of the WWE Divas division has Kaitlyn showing up this evening but her opponent is someone who has been on a roll in Beth Phoenix. Phoenix got a title shot at the WWE Royal Rumble in a four way match but the match ended up in a draw because of interference by Kharma. This is actually more of a back and forth match than one might have thought. Because of that, it definitely holds more interest. But the end comes the way most people would think, with Beth hitting the Glam Slam and turning it into a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

[We head backstage for an interview with Drew McIntyre. McIntyre talks about being the chosen one. He is the man chosen by Vince McMahon himself to lead this new generation and he is not going to disappoint. In fact, next week he is going to be facing R-Truth in an Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match. He is going to beat that 'rapper' and head to Elimination Chamber so that he can be the new WWE Champion at WrestleMania. At the end of the day he is the Chosen One and no one can take that away from him.]

[Our semi main event here this evening and an Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match. DiBiase tried early on to purchase his way through this match but that just got him some big slaps to the chest courtesy of Big Show. DiBiase had to use a lot of shenanigans to get the advantage in this match, including some interference by Vickie Guerrero but he did manage to have the advantage throughout the middle portion of this match. He even went for Dream Street but Big Show stopped him right in his tracks. Big Show used the screams of the fans to get back into this one. He sets up DiBiase for a Choke Slam but then he gets assaulted from behind by Kane! The forearm to the back causes an automatic DQ.]

 

Winner: Big Show (Via Disqualification @ 7:29)

The Big Red Machine takes the urn from Paul Bearer and brings it down on the head of Big Show! The crowd boos as the Big Red Monster holds up the urn and begins that evil laughter, while Ted DiBiase and Vickie Guerrero argue outside the ring.]

[We are down to our main event and what a contest this should be. This is a spectacular back and forth contest that is truly worthy of being our main event. Morrison picks up the pace when he is in control in the ring, while Regal focuses on mat wrestling. It is announced that the first match in William Regal and Daniel Bryan's best of seven match series will take place next week! Regal catches Morrison with a European Uppercut and a series of double knee lifts before finishing that with a Double Underhook Suplex. He covers but only gets a two count. Morrison comes back later on with several hard kicks to the chest and a corkscrew plancha on Regal outside the ring. Morrison catches Regal with a Russian Legsweep and then heads to the top turnbuckle -- Starship Pain! Morrison makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

The two men just look at each other with intensity in their eyes. Neither man wants to give an inch to the other! Morrison motions to his waist in the 'belt' motion and Orton just smirks and pats the belt on his shoulder. The two men continue their staredown as Raw comes to a close. Could this be our WrestleMania match?]
