height: auto;"> <div style="font-size: 24px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; display: block;"><div id=""><span style="font-size: 24px;">Valentine & Savage vs The Honky Tonk Man & Beefcake<br id=""><br id=""></span><span style="font-size: 14px;">A solid match that delivered on its promise saw Greg Valentine, Randy Savage, Brutus Beefcake and the Honky Tonk Man deliver a fast paced match that kept the crowd enthralled for the duration.  Early domination by The Macho Man and The Hammer was soon turned the way of the heels with a cheap kick to the back from Beefcake on Valentine, switched the momentum and allowed Honky to make the tag to his partner.  The former Dream Team worked a stiff routine with one another, Beefcake showing a calculating mind by picking his spot and working it hard.  Valentine was noticeably tiring when Beefcake slapped the Sleeper hold but with Savage stomping the canvas on the outside, it was enough for Valentine to get the energy needed to break the hold.  A tag to Honky Tonk though and Greg soon found himself on the receiving end of more punishment.  After a few quick pinfall attempts Honky Tonk lived up to his cocky reputation by giving Valentine breathing space before knocking him down.  It would prove to be a mistake.  Seeing the running knee lift coming, The Hammer moved out of the way leaving Honky to go sailing up in the air while Valentine made his way over to his corner for the hot tag.  The roof blew off the building as Savage delivered hard punches to Honky Tonk and the onrushing Beefcake.  Knocking him to the outside, Savage quickly climbed to the top turnbuckle and nailed Honky Tonk with a double axe handle... Jumping back up to the top, Savage delivers a textbook flying elbow... but the referee doesn’t count!  Honky had tagged Beefcake in while Valentine was tagging Savage!  Savage realises what’s going on a split second before Beefcake connects with a flying tackle.  Savage bundles him off and runs the ropes only to be clattered by Jimmy Hart’s megaphone from behind... I see this result doing a lot of things; one, you can use the feud with Bravo to turn the Harts face, two, Duggan moves up a bit from the win, and three, it builds the Rougeaus up as another potential foil for either Demolition or Muraco/Orton. Multi-purpose booking is win. Plus, I can see Slaughter doing something, given that he's the Real American Hero and all.

The commentary is actually one of the easier parts to write - it just seems to flow so easily with that team - Gorilla and Jesse sparring with each other while Vince provides the links. And I get to serve my base instinct to make cheap puns whenever I can...

 

I am really trying to do justice to the huge roster although there are a couple of guys who have been lost in the shuffle somewhat - It's a challenge alright!

In the history of Special refs like Piper, they play like they will keep the heel at bay and then actually side with them (the prematch theatrics are a great swerve -- recall Tyson and DX?) Piper has a hated rivalry with Valentine (the infamous Dog Collar match where Valentine deafened Piper), Piper gets a measure of revenge here and sets up some nice feuds for you.

Tito Santana vs Kamala

Kamala dominates and applies his Claw but refuses to break the hold when Santana reaches the ropes. Kowalski gets involved and shows Kamala what a REAL Claw hold is like and the crowd goes nuts - as does Kamaka... the Ugandan heads for the high ground and Chico steals the win. (countout maybe so he can still claim to be undefeated)

 

British Bulldogs vs Orton & Muraco

I think we need one good title change - while they may only be temporary champs, Orton and Muraco would be viable and could use the "credits" to their resume. They could defend against Rougeaus before making Bulldogs 2-time champs (multiple title reigns is a niche we don't see often in diaries)

Most know that Steamboat was leaving to spend time with his family, but the original plan was put the belt on someone else (Butch Reed I think). They no showed and there was turmoil in the back. Hogan told Vince just to grab someone out of the lockerroom - that's when Wayne Ferris was walking down the hallway -- so Hulk points to the Honkey Tonk Man and says "like him, just give him the belt" Wayne told Vince he'd love to be champ and never wanted a day off as long as he had the belt. Ferris had been wrestling for almost 15 years at that time even though the WWF pushed him as a new guy on the scene. His team with Larry Latham (Moondog Spot) in Memphis as the Blonde Bombers was awesome. He had a match with Austin Idol where the loser had to dye their hair black....and HTM was born shortly after.

As you will see in the clips below, "Punk Rock" Wayne Ferris was head and shoulders above the HTM character most saw him protray.
