Midwest Championship Wrestling - Card Subject to Change

<table width=40% border=1><tr><td>My name is Aaron Fujita. Some of you may have heard of me. I’m a wrestler in the United States, making regular appearances for some of the smaller promotions. I’ve even “done my job” on episodes of both Total Wrestling and Supreme TV. Most of my work has been isolated to CZCW, MAW and PSW, but in the last few months I’ve been making a lot of appearances for a new promotion; Midwest Championship Wrestling owned and operated by Jay Fair. Let me explain things a little bit.

 

Rip Chord has always been known for developing young wrestlers and then releasing them into the wrestling world as a way to give back to the business. Nobody knew he had taken Jay Fair under his wing with the same intentions in mind for an owner. For years Rip secretly took Jay in and showed him the ins and outs of owning and operating a promotion. Finally in August of 2009 Rip gave Jay his blessing and told him it was time. The stingy old timer even gave Jay a little bit of money to start out with. Midwest Championship Wrestling was the result of all of that training. Jay has been running shows for five months now. He has built a solid roster of young and veteran talent. Some guys had come over from MAW when the company started off, with the blessing of Rip Chord of course. Steve Flash had been crowned MCW’s first Heavyweight Champion and was still defending the belt. MCW was classified as a “Small” promotion and concentrated running its shows in its home region; the Midwest. The December show just wrapped up and I’m ready to head home.

 

As I walked down the hall towards the parking lot doors, I stopped by Jay’s office to collect my pay day. It wasn’t much, about $500 to cover travel and my wages for the night working as one of his main event guys. I liked this place though and enjoyed working for Jay. When I stopped in he asked me to sit down across from him and slowly filed through the pre-filled envelopes.

 

“What’s up, Jay?” I asked as I set my bag down on the floor beside my chair. He remained silent for a few more seconds as he pulled my envelope out and slid it across the desk. I would leave it sitting there for a few minutes as a courtesy.

 

“You know Rip Chord has a great booking mind and he tried really hard to pass that along to me.” Jay started. “Three years I studied the way he ran his shows and I’m still flabbergasted as to how he does it.”

 

“Jay,” I scoffed. “You book a good show.” He shook his head in disagreement.

 

“I’m not saying I’m terrible, but I’m just keeping my head above water. Nothing I’m doing is ground breaking and edgy.” He stated. I wouldn’t have said it to him, but I couldn’t help but agree a little bit. Jay was booking good matches, but he just wasn’t coming up with exciting stories.

 

“So what are you considering?” I asked.

 

“Well,” he rubbed his chin before continuing. “I’ve been thinking about hiring a different booker.”

 

“Who do you have in mind?” I inquired. I reached up and rubbed my goatee as I waited for his response.

 

“I was thinking about putting Marvin Ernest in the spot since he is already under contract, but I feel like he may want too much money. Then I thought about bringing Mean Jean in from MAW, but he’s already stretched so thin wrestling and booking there that he’d be burnt out here.” Jay paused momentarily.

 

That’s when it hit me. I thought about him asking me to book for him, but then shook the thought off. I had no experience booking, nor a reputation of business. I went to school for meteorology, not management. So I figured I was in the clear.

 

“So who else were you thinking?” I asked. I kept going over possible names in my head, but the list kept getting shorter and shorter as I ruled each one of them out due to availability or asking price.

 

“How about you?” Jay asked. He smirked a little as my mouth went agape. “Don’t act so surprised.”

 

“Why me?” I was still a little taken back from his offer. “I’ve never booked a show in my life.”

 

“Don’t kid yourself Aaron. You’ve come up with some great ideas in the last year.” Jay complimented. “They may not have been full-fledged storylines but someone who can come up with finishes and angles like that HAS to be successful as a booker.”

 

I still wasn’t convinced. I enjoyed wrestling for my paychecks. The thought of having the fate of a company resting on my creative ability was a bit startling. “I don’t know Jay.”

 

“At least try it out for a few shows.” He said. “Try it out and if it’s not for you, I’ll find someone else for the job.”

 

It was tempting. Very, very tempting. I remained silent for a few moments before finally deciding it would be worth the gamble.

 

“Why not?” I said. “I’ll give it a shot.” Jay broke into a wide grin. He must have figured I would take the opportunity, because he quickly grabbed a piece of paper in front of him.

 

“I’m so glad that you’re doing it Aaron,” he started. “But this isn’t John Wayne time. There will be guidelines. I’ve got a lot of money invested in this company and you’ll be dealing with the finances. I want a profit, a LARGE profit in the next two years.”

 

I wasn’t exactly sure how much a profit he wanted, but I’d sure do my best to fulfill his request.

 

“And I may not have done great, but I’ve worked hard getting us to the level we’re at,” he sternly stated. “So don’t lose the progress I’ve made.”

 

It made sense.

 

“I want our guys at least minutely able to call their own matches. So try to hire guys with a good understanding of match psychology,” He asked. “Keep guys with bad reputations out of the locker room too. They’ll cause problems you don’t need.”

 

We discussed the specifics of the deal into the wee hours of the morning. So much for my plans of getting to bed early tonight.</td></tr></table>

I made a big long list of things I wanted to do and divided it up into lists of what I thought I could and probably couldn’t do. I e-mailed it to Jay and he politely explained to me that I had full control over MCW. As long as I followed the rules and met the goals he had set in front of me, I had free reign on the direction of the company. That kind of took me by surprise. But I went to work.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="font-family:'Franklin Gothic Medium';"><strong>My first order of business was bringing in one more midcarder to round out the roster. I spent a few days racking my brain and finally settled on Kashmir Singh. Kashmir was a guy who could play both the babyface and the heel role and was a nice guy to boot. His in-ring skills were progressing and I knew he’d be a solid member of the roster down the road. He agreed to a decent pay per appearance contract and would be available for the next show. My next order of business was to, and as much as I didn’t like it, find someone to play the authority in our company. I loved the physical aspect of wrestling and loved the modern style. I wasn’t huge on the entertainment style, but it is what wrestling is. I found that person, by recommendation of Jacob Jett if you’ll believe it, in Katie Cameron. She’s beautiful, she can talk and she presents herself well. I think she’ll work out nicely.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="font-family:'Franklin Gothic Medium';"><strong>I also knew that with the guys on our roster, it wouldn’t be long before the bigger companies came calling. I knew I needed to take action, but wasn’t completely convinced I’d be successful. So I spent a few days making calls to Richard Eisen, Sam Strong, Tommy Cornell, Dan Stone, and the DeColts among others. After convincing them I wasn’t just a fan who had somehow gotten their numbers, I went to work trying to soften them up and put some non-aggression pacts and working agreements in place. To my surprise, Richard Eisen was the only one of the bigger owners that agreed to the non-aggression pact. I was able to put working agreements into place with TCW, USPW and NOTBPW. The DeColts just weren’t interested in anything.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="font-family:'Franklin Gothic Medium';"><strong>I felt good about the strides I had made my first week and a half in control. Then I moved my focus to our next show which fittingly was called Dawnings. I made myself watch every show Jay had booked to familiarize myself with the stories that were in place. I realized that there wasn’t much going on at the time and it was up to me to start telling some stories. I also decided to add a belt for the mid-level guys to vie for. I wanted to create a kind of alternative to other products that were out there, so it seemed fitting to call it the Alternative Title. I had an idea to crown the first champion and factored that into my first card. I submitted the card to our flyer maker and the show was announced. I created a background image in Photoshop and used some coding to make it fixed to the webpage. Then I just made an HTML document, coded the show and inserted it into the post with an iframe. And thanks for the nice comments man! I hope to have you on board.

After Dawnings I started racking my brain trying to figure out how I could keep up with the wrestling industry. It may have just been me, but I figured that now that I was a head booker, I needed to pay a lot more attention to what other companies were doing. Luckily there were people making money off of reporting EVERYTHING there is to report about wrestling. All I needed to do was go to TotalExtremeWrestling.com and I’d get everything I needed. The website was doing revolutionary things. The industry had been taking off and they capitalized. They offered a subscription service and employed one or two people to follow each promotions every move. It was phenomenal. So I came up with my own system of taking notes to keep up with the industry. Here’s what I wrote down for January.

 

In January 2010, MCW made a profit of $5500. The wrestling industry was rated at 56% strength and on the rise. The economy was rated at 79% strength and falling.

 

Recent News

- 5SSW and GCG both experienced growth this month. They rose to Regional and Cult size respectively.

- Ultimate Phoenix, whom I was keeping my eye on, was diagnosed with Chronic Upper Back Pain and is going to miss 2 months of action. On the same note of injury, Joey Beauchamp suffered a Spinal Disalignment and will miss up to 3 months of action.

- Matt Sparrow let it slip during a radio interview that he and Little Miss Sunshine do not get along in the CZCW locker room. To me this says that Matt asked her out and she declined. Just saying.

- 21CW, USPW, SWF, SOTBPW and GCG all signed new PPV deals with UK-1, American Option, Seleccion Mexico, Demand-TV Mexico and Jade 237 respectively.

- RIPW signed Ernie Turner to a PPA deal.

- NYCW signed Mikey James to a PPA deal.

- SWF called Kristin Pearce up from development and signed Roger Cage to a written deal.

- GCG signed Hell Monkey to a PPA contract.

- A few of our guys signed other contracts as well. Jacob Jett signed with CGC, Greg Gauge signed with UEW and Mainstream Hernandez signed with CZCW all of PPA deals.

He thought I had set things up for three main programs nicely and I planned to progress things forward at this next show. We spent a little over an hour on the phone discussing what we should promote. I had been mulling around some potential matches and after speaking with Jay I finalized those plans. We then moved talk to the date of our shows. Jay had been running on Saturdays, but I realized this would eventually become a problem with the type of contracts we were using. Until we were a bigger promotion we would always be on the back burner for guys working more than one contract. So I knew holding shows on the weekends was out for now. I chose to run February’s event on Thursday, but we would definitely have to play each month by ear. We exchanged pleasantries and ended the call leaving me to design the event poster and get it sent off to the printers. This is what we advertised.

It may have just been my own pre-match jitters, but I couldn’t quite tell. The guys could tell I wasn’t as on edge too because I hadn’t secluded myself like the month before. I made the rounds talking to everyone that had been brought in for the event. Everyone seemed fairly happy with Dawnings and I was glad to see that was lifting the morale. Before I knew it the seven o’clock bell time arrived and Whatever It Takes was set to begin.</font></td></tr></table></center></font>

taste of contract negotiations from the other side in February as I had to resign Cameron Vessey and Davis Wayne Newton. I gave Vessey a small raise, but resigned Davis for the same wages. I knew this wasn’t how they were all going to be, but I rolled with it this month. I spent the Wednesday after Whatever It Takes roaming around the website to compile my list of notes for February. Here’s what I felt was note-worthy.

 

Recent News

- Richard Eisen has taken SWF to new heights as they rose to be classified as a Global promotion. They made a lot of signings to fill out their roster, but they hadn’t come calling on any of my guys. Yet.

- Richie Riggins debuted at the beginning of the month. He’s a very built guy with a physique and lack of skill perfect for the big time these days. He is of no interest to me, but maybe he’ll get a good shot somewhere else.

- Donte Dunn came out of the DeColt’s training camp. He has incredible athletic ability and a good look, so with some seasoning he should go on to do good things. I’m surprised CGC didn’t sign him up after graduation.

- In our own neck of the woods, Hugh de Aske and Greg Gauge have become good friends backstage.

- Fate went public with the problems he and Stevie Grayson have been having in CGC.

- SWF expanded their PPV availability into the UK by signing a deal with United Kingdom Choice.

- With a new season of television starting, TCW was able to bring TCW Saturday Night Showcase back on America Sports 1.

 

Recent Contract News

- As mentioned earlier, SWF went on a bit of a singing spree when they rose to Global size. They came to terms on contracts with Grandmaster Phunk, James Prudence, The Stomper, Puerto Rican Power and Wilson Carlisle.

- PGHW is set to tour again and they brought in our own Frankie Perez for the tour.

 

Notable Title Changes (US and Canada Only)

- Fate and Destiny captured the CGC World Tag Team Titles from Stevie Grayson and Zeus Maxmillion only to hotshot the titles to Trent Shaffer and Shane Nelson one week later in their first defense.

- Eddie Peak ended the 8 month reign of Joshua Taylor as TCW International Champion.

- The RIPW Tag Team Titles were left vacant when Bear Bekowski was called up to the SWF main roster.</font>

call at the end of the first week in March. We exchanged pleasantries for the first few minutes but got down to business rather quick. To start things off, we had made $5300 in February. It was good to see a consistent positive inflow of cash. Jay had done a good job securing decent sponsors for a promotion our size and it really put me at ease knowing if I wanted to bring in some high priced talent I could. It was good knowledge to have considering the idea I had for our May show. We’d need outside talent for it and I planned to make the announcement at March’s show. We discussed the idea of outside talent and utilizing our working agreements with other promotions. I had done just that this month and brought in a couple guys to fill a few gaps for us. They were both on one shot deals for now, but we might consider them for the future if they were received well enough. Next up we talked about the state of the industry and the economy. The economy was rated at 76% strength by totalextremewrestling.com and seemed to be declining still. The industry however was at 59% strength and on the rise. In the future this trend would mean a high interest in wrestling and cheaper talent. I loved the idea. Our crowd sized had basically stayed the same in February so we decided to head back to Hunter’s Town Hall for Center Stage. After a two hour call the card was finalized and I went to work making the poster for the printers. This is what we came up with.

Steve Flash and Fumihiro Ota have seen some tension building between them in the first two months of 2010. Their tensions will be put in the ring this month as each man was given a partner and the chance to settle their differences.

 

Mikey James vs. Jack Griffith

After a vicious post match attack to Frankie Perez in February, Jack Griffith told MCW management he wanted another “youngster who didn’t respect the veterans” in March. After some searching around Frankie Perez recommended “the perfect guy.” His tag team partner and CZCW star Mikey James agreed to come in and get a measure of revenge on his friend’s attacker. Mikey James is in an MCW ring for the first time!

 

Frankie Perez vs. ???

Frankie Perez asked management for a match to show the fans that Griffith’s attack had no long lasting effects. After hearing of Frankie’s help in finding an opponent, Jack Griffith took the liberty to contact another “grizzled veteran” and got his son to come in to show Perez what a youngster who respects the business is like. Who is this mystery man and could he overcome Perez’s tenacity?

These two have had bad blood from their first encounter of 2010. Since then they’ve began playing mind games with one another and they’ve been put into a title match here in March. Can Jacob Jett retain his title and put Mainstream Hernandez on the back burner? Or will a new champion be crowned?

This contest has no history, no bad blood and a lot of pride. Hugh de Aske has turned some heads as of late and looks to get a few more looks as he takes on another young up-and-comer in Sam Keith’s talented son. Will wrestling “royalty” prevail or will the world adventurer take the victory?</center>
