Diary Preview And Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

<p>OK so for the first time in literally five years being on this board....I'm considering doing my own diary.</p><p> </p><p>

It would be a BHOTWG one from 2014. I didn't start my current game with them(I actually did with TCW) but I wanted to inherit another promotion and do two at once(because I wanted to challenge myself. Have never ran two promotions at once plus I've come to quickly find out for me it's much easily then I thought.). In my TCW/nowBHOTWG game, BHOTWG fell to Cult, lost their TV deal and I found that to be fascinating. Along with the fact that they dismissed Iesada from the booking right away their last tour of the year, for the first time ever it actually led to me picturing this to be an interesting diary. If I actually go through with this, instead of portraying Kikkawa, the main person throughout the out of the ring writeups would be a journalist responsible for doing BHOTWG magazines and yadda yadda. So it would be his take on things as he observes everything that takes place product wise.</p><p> </p><p>

Shows writeups would be simplified because well, I'm a lazy 1 year old. Comes with the territory. To give a visual, shows would be summarized like this <a href="http://iheartdg.com/" rel="external nofollow">http://iheartdg.com/</a></p><p> </p><p>

So yeah would anyone be interested in this?</p>

<p>I wanted to provide a second idea. I was inspired by Jingo's ZEN: Worldwide Diary, and wanted to try a hand at confederation wrestling myself, with one addition: A year-end, alliance-wide tournament. I'm debating the use of either UWF: A Star Is Born or EMLL: The Walls Can Speak as the secondary diary, the other one remaining a concept. The second Diary will be posted once I have posted Week 1, October 2014 edition of USPW: American Wrestling in my diary USPW: The Ties That Bind. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">Extreme Modern Lucha Libre: The Walls Can Speak</span></span></p></div><p></p><p>

<strong>"Personally, I thought [bandido] was out of his mind. He asked me, the great Luis Montero, to convert the fighting style of his son's electronic game, Street Fighter II, into live wrestling on a canvas. Oh, I knew I could do it, easy, I just didn't think the product would sell."</strong>--Former EML Booker Luis Montero</p><p> </p><p>

In 2012, El Bandido laid down a manifesto, one created in the electronic depths of his son's video game console, in the code of Street Fighter II and in the swift jabs of Chun Li's fists. The initial product was similar to the old lucha libre, with caricatures of wrestlers, cheesy gimmicks, and a clear face and heel divide. </p><p> </p><p>

The product was reasonably successful. After a chance play of a independent wrestling simulator, where he portrayed the head booker of the Supreme Wrestling Federation, El Bandido wanted to create an international product. The famous wrestler held a summit with his twelve-year old son, his head booker Luis Montero and top heel Snake King, over a large plate of traditional Mexican fare. They decided to shorten match times, increase the pace, expand north of the border and north of the border that was north of the previously mentioned border. Plans were laid out to bring Extreme Modern Lucha to Brooklyn, USA (Brooklyn Extreme Modern Lucha), Montreal, Canada (Quebecois Extreme Modern Lucha) and Sydney, Australia (Outback Extreme Modern Lucha).</p><p> </p><p>

As many wrestling marks state, thus "the era of Lucha Libre began, and many dives were had from the top rope in celebration"!</p>

The New Year was always an interesting time for the Eisen Family. Particularly for Richard, who would hold his annual private dinner with a number of his close friends, before they would see in the New Year together. This exclusive meeting had previously seen the likes of Rip Chord, Sam Keith and Sam Strong visit the secluded Eisen home. More recently it had been a much more low-key affair, with Runaway Train, Christian Faith and Peter Michaels along with the boss, counting in the New Year, while drinking, talking business and reminiscing over the past 12 months.

Very few have ever attended the meeting, with only the select few who’ve gained Richard’s trust seeing the inside of his home. Despite the content of the meetings only being known by those in attendance, the meeting has still become part of the SWF folklore. The reason for this pertains to the fact that the meeting is often the catalyst for big changes in the company, both on-screen and off it.

This year however, was slightly different, mainly because Richard Eisen took the unbelievable step of spending New Year’s Eve with his family - or at least his two son’s Eric & Jerry - who had for the first time both been deemed ‘of age’ to attend the meeting. Richard would have an important proposal to make to his boys at the gathering.

As the night went on, Richard, who made it clear he was still enjoying running the SWF, admitted for the first time that he realised the day would come where he could no longer deal with the day-to-day running of the company. This turned out to be the reason his son’s had been invited to the evening. Richard Eisen outlined his desire for his son’s to take over the company after he had retired and run the company with a similar hands-on approach that he had taken. He explained that his boys' roles in the business side of the company would be increased over the next 12 months, with the intent to ease the transition into a new generation of the SWF.

Over the last half-decade, Jerry has already been slowly transitioning into the executive positions of the SWF, while Eric had shown interest solely in his on screen position. Following the meeting, these positions had been re-establish with Jerry showing a much greater interest in the news than his younger brother.

As such, the changes to Jerry’s role were much greater than Eric’s, with him beginning to ‘shadow’ his father in day to day operations, as well as joining the creative team (largely made up of the men at the meeting). Eric on the other hand would continue to focus on his in-ring duties, but accepted that he would have to eventually learn the business side of the industry should he wish to take a prominent role after his retirement.

The increased influence of the Eisen boys would not only have an effect on the main SWF roster, but also the development system - which had been describe as “disappointing” during the meeting.

Amongst other things, a complete overhaul of the system was proposed, a process which Richard was keen for Jerry to take a major role in. This would be Jerry’s first major responsibility of the transitional period and one that would have an impact of the long-term future of the SWF. It truly would be a baptism of fire for Richard’s eldest son.

I don't know where else to post this; so, I apologize if this isn't 'the right location for such'. That said, after a lengthy thought process, I've decided that I will no longer pursue LAX Wrestling as a project. I know that I did a lot of work leading up to the point; however, as I continued to flesh out the company, I felt like it would eventually falter (I just had a feeling). I don't want to just start a project in which to have it fail right away as that's something I have, thankfully, grown out of with age (WAR & SWF being too examples of this).

That said, I would like to think that there's a project out there left to do in whatever free time I have available. I know that I will never be able to write the kind of depth that I once did. I also know that I won't be able to update my projects as much I did in the past as well (most likely only getting to it when I really have time; which could be a month in between shows if it had to be that way). I feel, at this point, that readers would still be okay with a project if they knew it was going to be a slow-burner. I know that waiting a month isn't ideal and, in some cases, may cause you to forget what's been happening. I think I could construct a few ways to remedy that (ie: possibly having a 'storyline section' of the dynasty where there's a brief synopsis of what storylines are running at that time).

This is where I'm starting to think aloud...

I've recently contemplated resurrecting Deadly Overloaded Action. I had fun with the product and it posed a great challenge (being #4 in the US being the 'Big Three').

I don't know if it would be under the same manner as before (owned by a TV Network) or if I would take some liberties with the company itself. Part of me wants to just re-boot the entire thing with a new background, new owner, new wrestlers and have it stand on its own. However, there's also part of me that is afraid of the dissonance that would follow with doing such a thing (anyone who read my previous attempts may feel it's weird to see DOA in a different form than they once saw). Then again, time may alleviate the last issue.

If I kept it with Arcadia, I would most likely still re-boot the series. It would start at 'day one'; voiding out the '1st season approach' that we put up before. In the new version, there wouldn't be 'seasons' per se. It would be more about being a wrestling company who just happens to be owned by a TV network (as if TNA was bought out by Spike or something).

With the latter approach, I have even considered going back 'into the well' of sorts and possibly having John Greed or Victor Page as the headbooker. If this were the case, at least with Greed, it would be John Greed as the cornellverse has created up until now (not the injured, drugged out, loser-face). Again, I don't know if this would feel weird to others to see (envisioning DOA, much like it was, but in a different way -- Cornellverse 13 or 14).

I guess, I wanted to let you know that LAX Wrestling isn't going to happen. That said, I also wanted to talk about what others might think about a potential DOA return, possible change of backstory, and/or the whole thing.

(Again, sorry if this isn't where this is supposed to go).

Maybe you could ignore the edgy/attitude style (DOA/WAR/SWF) and go for a Chikara style company owned by a network. Different presentation but still the backstabbing world TV.

I thought that but part of the reason I'm running with DOA is there's already logo/belts available. That makes it much easier.

Aw man, so disappointed that you gave up on LAX Wrestling, was really looking forward to it. I can't give my opinion on DOA as a project but as an Eisen-Verse fan, I'm all for it. I'll go check DOA out but as of what I've read from here it does sound like a promotion and project I'd be in to.

It's less 'giving up' and more embracing reality. I enjoyed the theory of LAX Wrestling; however, booking the first show was a daunting affair. I couldn't get behind the characters like I thought I could and, before I knew it, I felt like I was just spinning my wheels for the sake of spinning them (as if, I can't survive without a TEW Dynasty in my life).

Deadly Overloaded Action is relatively the same product. While the original was 'key' on modern, I'm thinking of dropping that down to 'medium' or 'heavy' in the new version (if I went that route). I've come to realize that booking 'niche products' can be really hard. I tend to do better when the product is wide-open (allowing for big men, small fliers, technitions, etc.). I've come to realize that I like booking big brawler types and the original 'key modern' approach doesn't allow for that really.

Yeah, I understand. I've been running a dynasty myself and it's very much based around all types of wrestlers and giving guys who aren't considered "top guys" a go at proving what they can bring as top guys. Regular Joe, Ricky Turner, Jerry Martin and Happy Elwood were my main guys at the start, and I can see why characters are important because these guys have fairly contrasting characters in themselves which effectively gives me a lot of freedom and to be honest without the characters I have in my head, the diary would be absolutely useless and dead by now. So, I can definitely see where you are coming from with that. Although, I am sad that all the hype is going to waste as I was really into the product/story you were telling.

Yeah, I will definitely be reading the DOA diary if you decide to follow that route but all the best with whatever you do decide to pursue.

It's 1983 and the NWA is on fire with great talent and successful programs. But Vince McMahon and the WWF are looking for Global Expansion and the NWA looks to be forming cracks via this. Promoters are trying to keep there on talent and they are losing touch with the original roots of the NWA. NWA President Bob Geigel is seeing this transpire before him and he is trying to stop it, so what Bob decides to do is kick companies out of the NWA so he can keep only the trusted companies inside the most powerful governing body in wrestling. He and the other promoters have decided that only seven companies will survive this pretty much split. No company is safe, there will be a New Year’s day meeting and the companies that will be taken out will be voted on by each and every promoter. Also to add to this the seven companies left in the NWA will all own a share in a separate company under the NWA banner. This separate company will host 12 shows a year, 1 for each month and this company will have the NWA World, Tag Team, U.S., and Junior Heavyweight titles. The goal of this separate entity under the NWA banner will be to have talents from all seven of the NWA promotions go to the one show a month and show off the great talent the National Wrestling Alliance has to offer. These shows will not stop the “Big Seven” NWA companies from doing there on storylines and having their own big shows. The entity is to bring the “Big Seven” together in unity and put on the greatest show possible for the greatest fans so they can see that the NWA is where the best wrestling all across the world is.

Also I would let the readers know that I would let them vote for what companies the "Big Seven" would be.

Thank you for reading and feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

CState, CWA, SECW, PNW, CWF, ASW, WCCW. That's my vote to be the big seven WWF, MACW, GCW are the three that would destroy the NWA.

Reading this, I can't help but think that you'd enjoy trying it the other way around: tweaking the TEW 2013 database to 'resurrect' the greed-verse and continue development of a fleshed-out character. Victor Page is a great start, as he has a corollary with Vince Russo.

As far as workload goes, I'm here and happy to help with whatever (database modification, belts, alts, logos) and I'm sure the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of the EisenVerse's fans will pitch in. Personally, this represents a continuation of the awesome integration of fan participation that is a hallmark of your written work.

E-V,

It's been a little while since you posted this but I decided to make a reply, my friend.

You know very well that I would be reading it even if you decided to run the Care Bears Wrestling Federation. You have worked hard and built a following that I think is one of the top ones on this board. I can speak specifically for myself in saying that I believe you are one of the top writers that I have read not just on this board but in general.

As far as a potential DOA return goes, I would definitely be all in when it comes to a DOA return even if it is a reboot. I really enjoyed the DOA promotion while you were running it. Eric Tyler, Acid, Totally Supreme, The Blazing Red Demon Johnny Vicious. Yeah, that is something that I can get behind.

Thank you, guys!

If I were to ever go with DOA, It would most certainly be a re-boot; fitting it into the current status of the cornellverse (2014). This would mean some new characters, some old, and an overall 'new start'. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to re-boot the whole thing though (energy; ie: re-booking in a way that is totally different than the original approach).

Part of me likes the idea though (as it was my creation -- the company that is). It's me; my own venture. That's always fun.

I guess I'd have to see. I'll keep everyone in the loop though (if and when I would start a new project -- DOA or otherwise).

I've been kicking the can down the road lately and warming up to the idea of a rebooted Deadly Overloaded Action. There would be no connection to prior attempts. In reality, outside of a character or two, the project would be new in a lot of ways; characters, storylines, leadership, etc.

The product would still be cult-modern leaning; however, would be developed in a way that I could still book big men as well. I would like to use people like Findlay (feeling I didn't get to really book his personality as far as I would have liked in my SWF project) and Hell's Bouncer (Kane-like figure).

DOA would remain with Arcadia, led by Jensen Tarver (as before), and run as the #4 sized company in America. The scenario would be that, while he thought of running with a wrestling program in the past, he never really pulled the trigger. Now, in 2014, he's done that and he sought out a 'big man' booker to give the show an initial burst of excitement.

That booker is Phil Vibert.

I've done 2 different approaches to the DOA in the past and that, at first, scared me. That was until I thought this through. There was a Greed version... a Victor Page version... and now a Vibert version. Truthfully, from one to the next, the shows/characters/storylines were booked very different with each booker in charge. This would be no different with Vibert. A new take... a new approach.

The weekly TV show (1 HOUR) and a PPV every 3 months (after 12 episodes) is the kind of schedule that seems most conducive to my busy schedule. I want something that I can 'itch the creative aspect' without devoting much time/thought to it. More or less, there will be depth but I won't obsess as I once did before.

The early roster is influx but I'm looking to work with people like Hernandez (cult render that was done), Akima (Ice's great render with the tribal tattoo; Tazz like), Greg Black (allowing him to be a 'serious fighter' for once versus a comedic guy), Tank (Goldberg'esque kind of figure), Steven Parker ('Mr. Wrestling' in a sense; promoted by Eric Tyler), Sam Sparrow (Crazy bird guy who brings a stuffed bird to the ring for which he feels is alive; Al Snow/Head scenario) etc. There's many names I have in mind but I want to limit it down to a choice number of guys.

I'm probably a ways away from really fleshing everything out; however, that's where I've been leaning in the last week or so. I dabbled into the T-Verse and loved it; however, found it quite mountainous to get to know such a great mod in the time I have allotted. With DOA, I know who I want to work with & the vibe of the game world.

So, yea, I thought this would be the best place to 'think out loud' in a way.
