The Owen's Family Legacy

Miller, Kiniski or Barr, in that order. Miller's never going to get any better than he is now and is less likely to get poached at his age. Kiniski and Barr both have time to develop, and Barr's demons means that Kiniski is more preferable in the long-run.

Miller on the heel side -- he can step in a winner role now. He has the legacy of PNW behind him and would be able to pass some skills the younger guys he faces. He deserves one last run at the top then he can pass the baton to the next generation on the way down.

Nick Kiniski -- longer term build as would Rex King. Could work with a veteran in tag teams to maybe boost his entertainment skills in interviews and angles.

This gives you one guy that can make the jump now and another than can be made ready over time and be there to replace in a year

Portland Wrestling is brought to you by Tom Peterson's, the happy place to buy.

Don Coss opens the show up, with Stan Stasiak and Dutch Savage on color commentary. Coss goes on the tell the audience that if they were at the show live they would have seen matches Gary Royal defeat Vinnie Valentino and Mary Young defeat Chris Colt. Coss also announces that later in the show The Grappler will face Scott Casey. Coss adds that there a about two hundred tickets left for the special Portland Wrestling show this Tuesday at the Portland Sports Arena. Buddy Rose will defend his title against Rocky Johnson, Stan Hansen will face Bruiser Brody, and The Road Warriors will return back to Portland and face the Midnight Rockers plus many more matches on the card. D+

Rip Oliver appears in the ring with Abbuda Dein, Chris Colt and Cuban Assassin. This Tuesday, in this dump of an arena, the Clan will taste take the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Titles as Dein and Colt here will destroy the Vinnie Valentino and Mark Young. Super Ninja be prepared to live the rest of your life as a crippled, as I’m going to Piledrive you through the mat, breaking you neck. You find out the hard way why I’m called the crippler. D+

Match #1: Stoney Burke vs. Scott Peterson

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_StoneyBurke_zps5a954efe.jpg?t=1361457736vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_scottpeterson.jpg

After a quick commercial break we are join in progress, as Scott Peterson is standing on the top turnbuckle and delivered a nice looking leaping clothesline on Stoney Burke. Peterson goes for a slam but Burke counters that into a small package and picks up the victory. Coss tells us that Stoney Burke moves on to the next round of the TV Championship tournament. (match was about five minutes, clipped to thirty seconds). E+

Cocoa Samoa and Ricky Santana are in the back and they are both very upset about being left off the card for this Tuesdays show. They will be making a big statement, as they are the best tag team in Portland Wrestling and they will soon be showing everyone in Portland that they are not a team to mess with. D+

Match #2: Art Crews vs. Verne Siebert

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/bth_ArtCrews_zpsa46849cd.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_VerneSiebert2_zps2d78cf3d.jpg?t=1361457736

We join the next match already in progress, as Art Crews in beating down Verne Siebert in the corner. Siebert tries to fight his way out of the corner but Crews is too tough and beats him down again. Crews sends Siebert into the ropes and hits a big powerslam and gets the victory. (The was just over five minutes but clipped to 45 seconds). E-

Bruiser Brody join Don Coss in the Crow’s Nest. Brody rambles on about how he doesn’t care what anyone says, he will make Stan Hansen bleed in this ring on Tuesday. Stan Hansen says he is the toughest person in wrestling and on Tuesday Brody will show the world that he is the toughest person in wrestling and he will not stop beating on Hansen until tells the referee he’s had enough. C-

Match #3: Vinnie Valentino vs. Matt Borne

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/bth_VinnieValentino_zps75457287.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_MattBorne2.jpg

Matt Borne comes out and destroys Vinnie Valentino. Valentino was overmatched from the opening bell and takes a nasty slam from Borne to finish in the match but barely lasted a minute. D

Match #4: Mark Young vs. Ricky Santana

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_MarkYoung2_zpse19f6ae7.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_RickySantana2.jpg

After a commercial break, we are joined in progress. Mark Young and Ricky Santana and exchanging hold after hold in the middle of the ring, which gets the crowd excited, especially after Young almost won the match with a roll-up. Young looks to have Santana on the ropes after hitting a high dropkick but Santana gets a low blow and distracts the referee about his knee hurting. This allows Cocoa Samoa to come into the ring and delivers a DDT on Young. Santana recovers and hits a big slam on Young and gets the victory. (Match was just under eight minutes but clipped to just over two minutes) E+

Main Event

The Grappler vs. Scott Casey

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_TheGrappler.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_ScottCasey_zps3c2fad7d.jpg

The match really got a good crowd reaction and the wrestling was great as well. Scott Casey wanted to brawl with Grappler but Grappler kept bailing out of the ring when Casey started to get the upper-hand during the match. Finally Casey has Grappler trapped and hits a big suplex out of the corner. This seemed to be the queue for Rip Oliver to come running to the ring and attacking Casey. The referee has no choice but to call for the bell, giving the victory to Scott Casey, who is getting destroyed by Oliver in the ring. The show ends before we see anything else happen. C-

Remember Tom Peterson's, the happy place to buy.

Overall: D+

Ed Moretti vs. Art Crews

I'm a little upset Moretti was not included in the Race to the Top. He would be another good choice to give a push too. Known as the Moondog (thanks to Lonnie Maybe) and also Mad Dog. I could see a fun stable with him Moondog Morretti, Maniac Matt Borne, and Mean Mike Miller (maybe called the Mad Dogs). They could rival even the Clan as the top heels for a few months. Ed and Miller are former PNW tag champs and would be nice to see them get another crack at those belts.

Matt Borne vs. Scott Peterson

speaking of Borne, there he is. Should get a fairly easy win over Scott - but could set the stage for a Southern Rocker v "mad dog" feud.

Cuban Assassin vs. Carl Styles

Styles can be a decent guy on the mid-card, but thinking the big Cuban has places to go and could be involved in some mid level storylines.

Rip Oliver vs. Super Ninja

woe to be the Ninja right now as Oliver has to be steamed about losing the belt

Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Doll

Nick should be a good teacher.

Sgt. Slaughter vs. Curt Hennig

expect a DDQ, but think Sarge is better equipped to carry the PNW on top at this stage than the future Mr Perfect

Vinnie Valentino & Mark Young vs. Abbuda Dein & Chris Colt (NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship)

Road Warriors vs. Midnight Rockers

maybe a DQ, but gotta keep some young blood rising to the top. Imagine a run-in to distract Warriors. Wouldnt want to be around when they come for revenge.

Co-Main Event: Buddy Rose vs. Rocky Johnson (NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship)

Rose is the man to carry the torch. He will help build the promotion and you need guys to chase him. Johnson is a good choice to do some chasing, but too early for another title change Granted, Rose could save his belt by DQ/cor.

Co-Main Event: Bruiser Brody vs. Stan Hansen

no contest. I want to see Brody and Hansen team up to take on the Road Warriors!!!!!!! NO ring could hold that match. And maybe just maybe an angry LOD charges the ring and attacks both of them to set it up (maybe they think the masked guy who interfered in their match was one of them -- even if they are used for the actual match to improve rating, it could be later revealed to be someone else to set up anew feud -- like Cuban Assassin?? or Mad Dog?)

I shall go with Doink...

Cuban Assassin vs. Carl Styles

Was the Assassin a jobber in WCW or am I thinking of someone else?

Rip Oliver vs. Super Ninja

Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Doll

Nick will wipe the mat with him.

Sgt. Slaughter vs. Curt Hennig

I am not sure if Curt has the name to beat Slaughter yet. Now if this match were to take place three years later I would pick Curt.

Vinnie Valentino & Mark Young vs. Abbuda Dein & Chris Colt (NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship)

Road Warriors vs. Midnight Rockers

No thought behind this I hate the Rockers and I was a huge fan of the Road Warriors.

Co-Main Event: Buddy Rose vs. Rocky Johnson (NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship)

Tough call here, I could see a case of Rocky winning because of higher popularity after all he was a midcarder in the WWWF so his in game popularity has to be some what high. However, like Olympia said I really do not see him as a major champion. His son yes, him not so much.

Co-Main Event: Bruiser Brody vs. Stan Hansen

I have to agree with Olympia and go no-contest here. I have never actually watched a Brody match before but I have heard that he was a wild brawler and so was Stan so yeah I am not thinking that either man will end up pinning the other.

Portland Big Time Wrestling

By William Reddy

This month I took a little trip to Portland Oregon to watch the Portland Wrestling put on a big event at the Portland Sports Arena. Let me tell you I was very happy that I arrived early because this arena was packed, with many people just standing throughout the building. I know the attendance was twenty-five hundred but there were easily three thousand people crammed into this little arena. The popcorn was stale but at least the beer was cold.

To start things of the old man himself Don Owen address the crowd and talk about the big matches that are for tonight. I have only caught a couple clips from Portland Wrestling here and there in San Francisco but anytime Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody are in the same ring together, I’m going to be there.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_PNWTAG1.jpg

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/bth_VinnieValentino_zps75457287.jpghttp://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_MarkYoung2_zpse19f6ae7.jpg versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_ChrisColt.jpghttp://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_RockyIaukea.jpg

Open Contest: The first match of the night, we start out with the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champions Vinnie Valentino and Mark Young facing Chris Colt and Abbuda Dein, who have joined forces with Rip Oliver as part of the Clan.

Colt attacks Young from behind but misses a quick clothesline and is roll up for two. Young and Valentino almost had another shocking victory after defeating Ricky Santana and Cocoa Samoa to win the titles. Colt gets his clothesline on the counter attack, sending Young over the top rope. Dein comes in a forces Valentino now into the corner and goes to work with elbows and punches and then hits a corner splash. Colt back in and gets a delayed suplex on Valentino, Colt tags in Dein and he hits a running splash and that is enough to get the victory. E+ (A solid opener and got the crowd somewhat into the match. The match clearly showed that Young and Valentino getting the victory of Santana and Samoa was a fluke.)

Rocky Johnson comes out and tells everyone that tonight Buddy Rose will lose and he will be taken his bunnies with him. One thing I know about Buddy Rose is that he loves his bunnies and food, so Johnson could be in trouble tonight.

The next four matches were really nothing to talk about, as they were squash type matches with Art Crews defeating Ed Moretti (E), Matt Borne destroying Scott Peterson (D), Cuban Assassin defeating Carl Styles (D) and Rip Oliver just about decapitating Super Ninja with a nasty Piledriver (D+). The highlight during this time was Bruiser Brody throwing Scott Peterson after his match with Borne from the ring and talks, well yells about how he will destroy Stan Hansen. He does not care what anyone says, Hansen will bleed tonight, Hansen will leave that ring on a stretcher and Brody does not care if survives the trip to the hospital.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_NickBockwinkle.jpg versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_SteveDoll.jpg

Match Six: Nick Bockwinkel faces a young stud in Steve Doll.

Doll on the attack early with right hands that forces Bockwinkel into the corner. Doll mounts Bockwinkel and gets the fan favorite ten count punches right to the temple. Bockwinkel bails to the floor and gets the upper hand with a nice forearm shot to Doll who came out following him. Back inside Doll avoids a clothesline and chops Bockwinkel back into the corner but a well-placed knee to the gut stops the momentum for Doll and Bockwinkel hits a nice suplex and gets a near fall. Bockwinkel clubs away at Doll’s back but Doll gets a few right hands to counter but is dropped with a right hand from Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel grabs the hair of Doll to lift him off the mat but Doll counters with a roll and gets a near fall. There both back up, Bockwinkel goes for a clothesline but Doll ducks under it and counters with a backslide, which gets another near fall. Bockwinkel quickly back up and a delivers a backdrop and gets a near fall of his own. For some reason Bockwinkel goes to the top rope, which Doll catches him and slams him to the mat and gets a two count. Bockwinkel recovers and gets a couple of right hands that knocks Doll down but Doll gets another quick rollup and Bockwinkel just kicks out at two. Doll greets Bockwinkel with a several right hands as they both get up. Bockwinkel comes back with a couple of right hands of his own, Doll counters with a dropkick that puts Bockwinkel on the mat. Doll goes for another dropkick but Bockwinkel blocks it and pushes him into the corner. Doll climbs to the second rope but Bockwinkel is right there to stop him and joins him on the ropes. Bockwinkel with a backdrop from the second rope and that’s it for Doll, as Bockwinkel gets the victory. C+ (A really nice match with an outstanding pace. Steve Doll really came out looking like he might be someone to fear in the future.)

Curt Hennig joins us in the ring and tells us he has no idea why he even here in Portland tonight. He has better things to do then wrestle for these unwashed, dirty, disgusting people that live in Portland. He adds that no wonder no one else lives in Oregon, as the smell from the unwashed hippies in Portland is destroying the rest of the state. He tells us that Portland should not even be part of the United States, which that of course brings out Sgt. Slaughter to a big reaction. Slaughter tells Hennig that he needs to learn respect and he is going to teach him respect right now. Hennig goes ballistic as Slaughter ends his sentence with boy.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_SgtSlaughter2.jpg versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_CurtHennig3.jpg

Match Seven: Sgt. Slaughter faces Curt Hennig.

Slaughter starts working over Hennig’s neck but Hennig’s comes back with a couple of forearm shots to the face of Slaughter. The match starts out rather slow, as Slaughter is continuing to work on the neck of Hennig, as I hope all this work early pays off in the end for Slaughter. Slaughter knocks Hennig with a clothesline, Hennig retreats to the corner and just barely avoids a shoulder from Slaughter. Slaughter right shoulder goes right into the ring post. This is all Hennig needs, as he attacks Slaughters right shoulder. Slaughter finally gets Hennig off him with a knee to the mid-section and attacks Hennig’s neck again. Hennig escapes and leaps off the middle rope and hits dropkick, which gets a near fall. Slaughter avoids another dropkick and hits a elbow drop but it was with his right arm and so he could not go for the cover. Slaughter goes for the Cobra Clutch but Hennig counters with a roll-up for a near fall. Hennig with a backbreaker but it only gets two. Hennig whips Slaughter into the ropes and hits a suplex and then follows with a leg drop but it only gets two again. Hennig with a missile dropkick for another near fall. Hennig with bridging suplex but just can’t get a three count. Slaughter finally catches Hennig in the Cobra Clutch and it looks like Hennig is done for but a well place low-blow behind the referee back breaks the hold and then Hennig gets the Henning Plex for the victory. C (A very nice match after a slow start. I do wish they would have used something to finish the story of Hennig attacking Slaughters right shoulder more though)

The Road Warriors head to the ring and they get the biggest crowd reaction so far tonight. Something must of happened to the sound system, as I could barely understood the Road Warriors as they gave a promo on how they are going to destroy the Midnight Rockers tonight. I think this is the reason why the Road Warriors normally have a manager with them, as the part I did hear was not very good.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_RoadWarriorHawk4_zps01634309.jpg?t=1361457705http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_RoadWarriorAnimal5_zpsbb7aa52a.jpg?t=1361457705 versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_ShawnMichaels3.jpghttp://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_MartyJannety4.jpg

Match Eight: The Midnight Rockers facing the Road Warriors.

This match will be speed versus power. Hawk dominates early on, throwing Marty Jannety around like a rag doll. Shawn Michaels comes in and is quickly gorilla press by Hawk. The Midnight Rockers try to regroup on the outside and the crowd is going crazy. Animal comes in but Shawn Michaels hits a low dropkick right to his knee and the Midnight Rockers are finally in business. The best way to beat a bigger opponent is to keep him on the ground and that is what the Midnight Rockers do here, as the they attack the knee of Animal without mercy, really wearing down the big man. Animal clotheslines Jannety from one knee and goes to tag Hawk but Michaels got tagged in first and clips the knee. Michaels goes to drag Animal to his corner but Animal kicks Michael’s right of the top rope and goes to tag Hawk again. Jannety tries to stop it but Animal even on one knee is too strong for him and he gets tossed threw the ropes to the outside. Animal makes the tag to Hawks, just as Michaels comes back into the ring. The crowd is going wild. Hawks sends Michaels into the ropes and hits a big powerslam but Michaels is barely able to kick out at two. Animal has Jannety trapped in the corner in the tree of woe. A double whip by the Road Warriors sends Michaels right into his partner. Hawk on the second rope, Flying Lariat on the stunned Michaels and 1-2-3. The Road Warriors win. C- (The action was good and the Road Warriors won but it just seemed to Hawk and Animal where just off their game tonight.)

Buddy Rose joins us in the ring, with his bunnies of course with him. Rose gives a incredible promo about how Rocky Johnson has no chance of winning tonight. He tells the crowd that they should be so lucky to have him as their champion. That actuality gets some cheers from the crowd, which Rose quickly goes into a fit of anger, telling the crowd not to cheer him. He may be their champion but they are still an ant under his boot and at any time he will crush them.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_PNWHEAVY1.jpg

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_BuddyRose2.jpg versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_RockyJohnson_zps34ff5d49.jpg

Match Nine: The NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Bout. Buddy Rose defending against Rocky Johnson.

Rose starts out with some major stalling, as I’m talking about five minutes of stalling time. The crowd that was lukewarm hatred for him before the start of the match and now wanting to see him clearly get beat by Johnson. Rose starts working on the back of Johnson to start the match. A backbreaker gets Johnson on the mat and Rose keeps pounding on the match until Johnson finally is able to get a comeback going. A running forearm sends Rose to the outside. Johnson follows and goes to hit Rose but Rose pulls one of his bunnies in the way. Johnson of course stops his attack but this allows Rose to sneak back into the ring. Johnson is once again greated to more pounding on the back as he tries to return to the ring. Johnson comes back with a clothesline, then a dropkick and Rose is in trouble. One jab, second jab, third jab and then a big right hand from Johnson and Rose in on the mat. The cover, one, two, . .. NO!!!!. Rose kicks out just before three. The crowd is shocked, Johnson can’t believe it. I honestly thought that was the end. A slam by Johnson and that gets two. A suplex and Rose is up just before three. Johnson right now as a looks to be confused, as he has no clue on how to keep Rose down for three. Johnson goes for another suplex but Rose blocks and the Las Vegas Jackpot out of nowhere. One, two, three, Rose wins the match. Rose quickly leaves the ring with his belt and bunnies. C (Could have gotten a high rating, as I thought the ending came out of nowhere and all the damage to Johnsons back had on effect on the ending. A solid, solid championship bout, with Rose retaining the championship belt.)

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_BruiserBrody_zpsd2618fac.jpg?t=1361457705 versus http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_StanHansen3_zps63aa257a.jpg

Match Ten: The Main Event. Bruiser Brody going against Stan Hansen.

This should be a brutal match. Brody attacks Hansen before the bell and his just yelling at Hansen. Brody sends Hansen into the corner and just viciously stumps him and the tries to ends Hansen life by choking him to death. Brody continues to pound on Hansen but Hansen sees an opening and hits a vicious lariat, as I mean it was right on the head of Brody. Brody goes to the outside but that means nothing to Hansen. Brody’s right eye looks to be closing and is turning a nasty purple. Hansen just keeps pounding on that right eye and then pulls a big powerbomb on the outside. Brody looks to be broken, so Hansen sends into the ring and signals for the Western Lariat but Brody ducks out of the way and follows with a big boot that sends Hansen to the mat. Running elbow drop right to the temple of Hansen. Brody mounts Hansen and start pounding with left and right but Hansen powers out and goes for another Lariat which Brody avoids again counters with his own but Hansen just stands there. Any resembles of a match is thrown out the window as these two giants just start pounding on each other but Hansen finally gets the advantage and he hits his Lariat. One, two, three, Hansen pulls out the victory. C (Just a stiff, hard hitting match, which is to be expected from these two. I think the black eye that Brody received affected the match, as it looked like Brody was worried about during some of the exchanges.)

If you take away the first hour and it would have been a great show, as the beginning seemed to be putting the audience to sleep. Once Steve Doll and Nick Bockwinkel woke up the crowd it was a great second half of the show. Overall I give the event a C.

Best Match: Nick Bockwinkel versus Steve Doll

Most Disappointing Match: Road Warriors versus The Midnight Rockers

Wish I could see this again: Nick Bockwinkel versus Steve Doll

Wish I would have missed this: Road Warriors Promo

Best Wrestler: Nick Bockwinkel (he was really on his game tonight)

Worst Wrestler: Ed Moretti (he just seemed lost in his match with Art Crews)

interesting write-up. I liked how it came from the perspective of the magazine writer (including the grades which made total sense how those were worked in)

You had some really good matches there. Not much hooplah (run ins or attacks) that would set up the next show, but sometimes that good. Let us relish in the moment and let the TV show worry about next time.

I had finished the write up last week but I just did not like the looke or feel of it, so I thought about doing this. It keeps with the theme of the write-ups I do for the house shows.

The matches with Cuban Assassin and Rip Oliver had run-ins but I was only writing up the matches that got a C- or better or a championship match, that is why the Tag Team title match got a write-up. I did not think run-ins or attacks would have really added to the storylines that I'm working on right now. Brody vs Hansen I had a run-in with Matt Borne but I did not make any sense why he would do that. Brody and Hansen was suppose be a draw but Hansen had control (that is how I got him to come over from Japan for the show) and he did allow that to happen, so I just went to a victory for him.

I thought they were good matches but I thought some would do better then they did. Road Warriors vs Midnight Rockers and Hansen vs Brody I each thought might get to the B mark. I was shocked by Bockwinkel and Doll getting a C+. Doll moved in several areas because of that match.

PNW @ Eugene: Tag Team Dominance

Overall Show: C-

Attendance: 1000

Portland Wrestling made its weekly trip to Eugene this week and packed the Lane County Fairgrounds Cow Palace, as one thousand fans watched live Portland wrestling. Three tag team matches was on the card for tonight with the newly crowd tag team champions Abbuda Dein and Chris Colt defending the titles against the Southern Rockers and The Road Warriors facing the Latin Connection.

The Road Warriors looked that they would destroy the Latin Connection, as Ricky Santana and Cocoa Samoa had no answer for the strength of Hawk and Animal. Samoa and Santana used their head and outsmarted the brutes. Hawk and Animal started getting frustrated as they could not hit any of their big power moves and the constant interference from Santana and Samoa. Finally after a while the Road Warriors just snapped and both of them attacking Santana and Samoa. The referee could not stop the Road Warriors vicious attacks on the Latin Connection and had no choice but to call for the bell. The Latin Connection gets the surprise victory.

I'll go out on a limb and call the upset here. Doll had a great match with Bockwinkle and he is your home town main stay, so having Henning put him over would do wonders for his career. Not sure if Curt feels the same way about it though

PORTLAND WRESTLING

4/6 - Portland Sports Arena: 2,500 Sell out

Portland Wrestling is brought to you by Tom Peterson's, the happy place to buy.

Don Coss opens the show up, with Stan Stasiak and Dutch Savage on color commentary. Coss tells the audience that if they were at the show live they would have seen matches Billy Two Eagles defeated Avalanche. Coss also announces that later in the show Steve Doll will face Curt Henning. Coss adds that the Portland Wrestling show on Tuesday was a huge success with Buddy Rose retaining his NWA Northwest Heavyweight Championship Belt against Rocky Johnson. Those are the kinds of shows that you can only see live. C-

Buddy Rose, holding his NWA Pacific Northwest Championship Belt around his waist and two of his bunnies holding his arms. Rose proclaims that he is the greatest champion that the northwest has ever seen. Tony Borne, Mad Dog Vachon, Stan Stasiak, Dutch Savage, Bull Ramos, Jesse Ventura, Roddy Pipper and Jimmy Snuka cannot compare to his greatest. And he will proof that he is the greatest and challenges Jimmy Snuka to a match next on Portland Wrestling. The crowd just got loud with that challenge. C+

Cuban Assassin waste very little time and just comes out attacking the smaller wrestler in Scott Peterson. Cuban Assassin just clubbers Peterson across the ring and not even after Peterson rolls out of the ring Peterson does not get a break from Cuban Assassin. Assassin whips him into side of the ring and then slams him back into the ring. Assassin running of the ropes and a big Splash on Peterson ends the match. D

Match #3: Abbuda Dein vs. Timothy Flowers

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_RockyIaukea.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_TimothyFlowers2.jpg

We join the match in progress, as Dein has Flowers done on the mat with a headlock. Flower’s begins the break out of the hold, with a little encouragement from the crowd. Flower's breaks the hold and sends Dein into the ropes and hits a big clothesline, as Dein returns back to him. Flower's with a suplex and then a slam, as Dein is in trouble. Dein grabs the referee when he retreats to the corner. This distraction allows Chris Colt to enter the ring and hit Flowers with the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Title belt. Dein wasted no time and hits a Splash to get the victory. (Match was just under seven minutes but only about three minutes was shown) D-

Match #4: Chris Colt vs. Scott Casey

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_ChrisColt.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_ScottCasey_zps3c2fad7d.jpg

Abbuda Dein joins Chris Colt for his match against Scott Casey. Colt tries to attack Casey before he was ready but Casey quickly gains the momentum and sends Colt over the top rope. Dein and Colt put their heads together on how to face Casey, as Casey brings the crowd into the match. Colt comes back into the ring and he quickly goes for tie-up with Casey. Test of strength equals no winner, so Colt just pokes Casey in the eye and gets the advantage. Colt beats Casey down in the mat in the corner and walks away, distracting the referee as Dein chokes Casey on the bottom rope. Colt tries the same trick but Casey is able to fight off Dein and hitting a big dropkick on Colt. Casey goes to whip Colt into the ropes but Colt reverses it but Casey reveres that into a small package and picks up the victory. D

The victory was short lived as Abbuda Dein comes into the ring and attacks Casey. Casey is able to hold of both Dein and Chris Colt but Rip Oliver and Cuban Assassin come running to the ring and just destroy Casey. Oliver gets Casey into the Piledriver position, as Dein climbs the top rope and jumps down, pushing on the feet of Casey, helping Oliver deliver the Spiked Piledriver. Casey is not moving on the mat. Oliver then spits on Casey, Cuban Assassin, Colt and Dein quickly follow spitting on Casey. D-

Main Event

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_SteveDoll.jpg vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_CurtHennig3.jpg

Steve Doll is coming off an incredible performance against Nick Bockwinkel on Tuesday, while Curt Henning is coming off a big victory against Sgt. Slaughter. Henning starts out quickly and just out wrestles Doll at every turn. Henning has a reversal for every move that Doll tries to hit. Henning has Doll locked a scissor/head lock has the program goes to commercial break. We are joined back to the action as Doll has Henning trapped upside down in the corner. Doll stands on the other side and runs across the ring and hits a low dropkick right to Henning’s face. The crowd is really into the match, as Doll seems to be on his game tonight. Doll holds up his right arm, letting the crowd know that the Lariat is coming but Henning hits a low blow before Doll can get moving. Both men are on the mat, the crowd is really into the match, screaming for Doll to get up. They are both up on their feet. Henning with a punch attempt blocked by Doll, Doll returns his own but Henning blocks that and quickly goes for the Henning Plex but Doll fights out with an elbow. Doll sends Henning into the ropes and goes for the Lariat but Henning avoids the attempt and gets a roll-up. Henning grabs the ropes for leverage but the referee sees it and stops the count. Henning goes to argue with the referee allowing Doll to get a small package but Henning switches the move, with him in the top position of the small package and gets the victory. C-

BHK -

The Athletic Commission was one of several reasons why Portland wrestling is no longer with us today. I really could not tell you if it was a major role or a minor role but it did affect Don Owen's wrestling business. It was not until the 2000's that the athletic commission started treating wrestling different then boxing, which is probably why Oregon has not been a wrestling hotbed for a long time.

I like the new rules, they sound a lot like the real rules in Oregon. Wasn't that part of the reason why the Portland territory was eventually closed down because the Athletic Commission was so strict?

Overall Show: C-

Attendance: 2000

Portland Wrestling made its monthly trip to Tacoma this week and packed the Bicentennial Center, as two thousand fans watched live Portland wrestling. The card was headlined by Buddy Rose facing Jimmy Snuka for the NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Belt. Also Rocky Johnson faced Matt Borne and many more were in action.

NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship Match

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_JimmySnuka2-1.jpg Vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_BuddyRose2.jpg

Earlier in the card Buddy Rose came out to announce to the audience that Jimmy Snuka had declined his challenge because he was not in the area tonight and that Snuka was afraid of him. So Rose says that since Snuka would not accept his challenge he was leaving. Just then Snuka comes running to the ring. Rose is in shock and throws his two bunnies in front of Snuka as he escapes from the ring and runs to the back. Snuka gets on the microphone and says he accepts Rose’s challenge for the NWA Pacific Northwest Championship Belt.

Rose starts out with some major stalling like only Rose can do. The crowd is really hot for Snuka who is just encouraging them has Rose is stalling on the outside. Rose starts working on the back of Johnson to start the match. The tie-up starts the match, which Snuka wins easily as he shoves Rose into the ropes. Rose wants another tie-up but kicks Snuka in the midsection instead but Snuka counters with a big chop and then another chop and then another chop sends Rose through the ropes. Snuka follows him to the outside and hits a big clothesline, as Rose was getting back up. Snuka tries for the Piledriver on the concert floor but Rose backdrops him out of the move. Snuka hit hard on the floor. Rose rolls back into the ring and hopes for a count out victory but Snuka is able to get back into the ring before the ten count. Rose with a backbreaker and then locks in a chinlock with his knee right into the small of Snuka’s back. Snuka wants the crowds help in escaping the hold, which they gladly do and the Bicentennial Center is rocking. Snuka to his feet and then hits a elbow but Rose pull's Snuka’s hair and gets him back to the mat. The referee is talking with Rose, giving him a warning about the hair pulling. Snuka is back into the chinlock. Snuka goes for the escape again but Rose pulls the hair again once Snuka gets to his feet. The referee does not look happy with Rose and gives him a stern warning. Snuka tries to escape again but Rose once again pulls his hair, leaving a chuck of Snuka’s hair in hands. The referee then asks for the bell to ring and giving the match to Snuka disqualifies Rose for the hair pulling. Rose takes his belt and walks out of the ring with a big grin on his face. Snuka does not look very happy.

I'm indifferent on Morretti and Ninja teaming -- seems like a random pairing but then again they showed great chemistry together (which is rare, and often is found in random pairings) so I'm willing to bet the fans will get behind them. I'd try to find a way to get them on every card (could try to get them work in other territories too, but no guarantee they would team up in other areas). Once they get their experience up too, they could provide some solid matches on the mid and upper card.

Unless you have some other big plans for either of them, letting them work together as a team at least gives them something to do each week

PNW @ Eugene: The Foundation

Overall Show: C-

Attendance: 1000

Portland Wrestling made its weekly trip to Eugene this week and packed the Cow Palace at the Lane County Fairgrounds, as one thousand fans watched live Portland wrestling. The card was headlined by The Road Warriors facing Buddy Rose and Cocoa Samoa.

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_RoadWarriorHawk4_zps01634309.jpg?t=1361457705http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/bth_RoadWarriorAnimal5_zpsbb7aa52a.jpg?t=1361457705 Vs. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_BuddyRose2.jpghttp://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i387/thunderwill/TEW/th_CocoaSamoa.jpg

The Road Warriors came out attacking right away. Buddy Rose did not even have a chance to remove his robe, so naturally Hawk rips it apart and starts choking Rose with it. Cocoa Samoa comes in and hits Hawk but it does nothing. Samoa hits Hawk again and it just seems to make Hawk mad, so Samoa runs to the wrong corner where Animal is standing there. The Road Warriors play their own version of Ping-Pong with Samoa, hitting him with right hands. Hawk with a big clothesline to the back of Samoa’s head and Samoa is down. The referee has clearly lost control of the match. Ricky Santana comes running down to the ring, just has Rose starts using his torn up robe as a choking device on Hawk. Santana attacks Animal, stopping him from getting to Rose. The referee has no choice but the stop the match now and disqualifies both teams. Samoa finally recovers and tips the advantage to the bad guys, as the Road Warriors are out number. Jimmy Snuka comes running to the ring for a big cheer from the crowd. Snuka gets a hold of Rose and puts him into the Piledriver position. The crowd is telling Snuka to do it even though earlier in the show Don Owen told the crowd that the Piledriver has been banned by the state of Oregon. The crowd started booing has Rose is able to escape and leave the ring but the cheers quickly come back as Santana takes a big Doomsday Device from the Road Warriors. Samoa drags his tag team partner from the ring. The Road Warriors and Jimmy Snuka take in the cheers from the crowd.
