WCW Hotline

1st Week of October 1995

Option 1: Halloween Havoc Control Center!

Option 2: Birthdays!

Option 3: A “Wonderful” Deal!

Option 4: WCW Monday Nitro preview!

Option 5: Last week’s ratings!

Option 6: “The Professor’s” lesson of the week!

Option 7: WCW Saturday Night preview!

Option 8: Mean Gene’s rumor corner!

Option 9: A gift from the WCW Catalog!

Option 1: Halloween Havoc Control Center!

WCW wrestlers are wasting no time in getting matches set up against some vicious foes! The biggest news of all is the triangle ladder match, as Sting will let the World Heavyweight championship down from the rafters for Hollywood Hogan, “Total Package” Lex Luger, and “Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman to contend for! Horsemen will be in action as “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair will take on WCW Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki, “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson will face “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes in a Street Fight, and “Latino Heat” Eddy Guerrero will defend the WCW World Television title against “Beautiful” Bobby. Also, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper will spin the wheel and make the deal as they take on Cactus Jack and Steve Austin! If all those matches weren’t enough, Sting will compete against the man who has been constantly calling him out, “Lionheart” Chris Jericho! Have you ordered yet? What are you waiting for?! Call your local cable company and order Halloween Havoc right now!

Option 2: Birthday Wishes!

WCW would like to wish the following employees a happy birthday this month: Dusty Rhodes (50), Paul Orndorff (46), Finlay and Scott Hall (37), Smash (36), 2 Cold Scorpio and Rio the Renegade (30), Art Barr and Flash Flanagan (29), Eddy Guerrero (28), Alex Porteau (26), Chavo Guerrero Jr. (25), and Richard Stevenson (24).

Option 3: A “Wonderful” deal!

Paul Orndorff has reportedly signed a new contract extension with World Championship Wrestling, which should keep him on in the company for quite some time in the future.

Option 4: WCW Monday Nitro preview!

WCW Monday Nitro is the place to be for all the hot action you’ve come to expect! This week, “Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman takes on “The Dragon” Ricky Steamboat! Hollywood Hogan and Lex Luger are also expected in the arena – but will Sting be there? It’s the hottest hour in all of wrestling! Come and see where the big boys play at 7pm on TNT, 10pm on TSN!

Option 5: Last week’s Neilson ratings!

Nitro put up a strong 7.58 rating on TNT, compared to Raw’s 4.62. Nitro on TSN rose to a 1.84. WCW Saturday Night on TBS drew a 6.35

Option 6: “The Professor” Mike Tenay’s history lesson of the week!

Not a history lesson this week, but a quick moment of silence for the passing of UWA owner, Ray Mendoza. Mendoza was the man who allowed WCW to buy stock in the UWA, and we granted them a few wrestlers in return. Mendoza was 66 years old.

Option 7: WCW Saturday Night preview!

Hollywood Hogan is calling it a “warm-up” match, but will opponent JPL have something to say about that? Smash takes on big Ron Simmons! Also Diamond Dallas Page defends his newly won US title against Syxx!

Option 8: “Mean Gene” Okerlund’s rumor corner!

We understand that the last WCW Saturday Night taping featured some people acting out of the ordinary, as veteran Robert Gibson brought in some alcohol to share with everyone, and Art Barr showed up very late to the show. Barr has been only lightly reprimanded.

Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!

This month, WCW Bash at the Beach 1995 hits shelves! Order your copy from the WCW Catalog and relive the shocking ending of Hollywood Hogan vs. Lex Luger!

<iframe width="350" height="263" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cXXWw8AneQw?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

“Last week on WCW Monday Nitro!

We heard from ‘The Stinger’ who said that he has no allegiances to WCW, KoW, or nWo until he decides whom to give his loyalty to! In the process he set up a huge main event for Halloween Havoc! The New World Order called out the Road Warriors as being past their prime! How will they respond, when Hawk and Animal are in the building tonight? Find out on the hottest wrestling show in the world, Monday Nitro!”

Monday, October 2nd, 1995

Held at: Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia (British Columbia)

Commentary: Tony Schiavone and Jesse “The Body” Ventura

Attendance: 7,400 (sell out!)

Show Runtime: One Hour

Rating: B

There are no comments to be made about this show.

Nitro is heating up the Great White North tonight! This week’s episode begins with action, as 2 Cold Scorpio, flanked by the traitorous Dawn Marie, squares off with the formerly undefeated “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright. The match is a solid display of high flying acrobatics, but once Marcus Bagwell emerges from the back, Scorpio’s gameplan is thrown all off. Wright gets a quick roll-up and scores a big win right here in the first match of Nitro!

Match Time: 6:56

Rating: C-

“Mean” Gene Okerlund comes out to the top of the ramp, and he brings out his guests at this time, “The Total Package” Lex Luger and the Road Warriors! Gene asks them what they think about the words last week from the New World Order, and Luger does most of the talking as he tells everyone that this nWo seem like a bunch of bigmouths, who can’t figure out when to stay quiet. He especially points out Pillman and Hall as being two guys who need to mind their tongues. Animal adds that if the nWo want to fight, they need to look no further than the Road Warriors. Hawk hits the old catchphrase that they “snack on danger and dine on death” and says that if some of those guys want to show up at Halloween Havoc for a wrestling match, then they’re out of luck; but if they want to fight, then they tugged on the right capes. Animal says that they “are in the business of deviating septums, ripping out goozles, and knocking tarter off the teeth” and that’ll be… Hawk adds “wwwwwwwhaaaaaat a rrrrrrrush!” Gene and the crowd go crazy, as the three Chicago boys play to the audience.

Notes: Luger was very poor at his dialogue here, but Gene improvised well, and the menacing Road Warriors never hurt to have on hand.

Rating: B-

We see footage marked as from earlier in the evening, as Hollywood Hogan is seen talking with The Queen. He appears to be asking her what she’s been doing lately, and she gets animated in saying that he doesn’t own her, she is free to do whatever she wants; she’s a manager, not a common belt holding valet. Hogan says that unless she wants to break their contract, she better start showing up at his side again, or else she will lose all the money and be shut out of the whole sport if she dares to clash with Hollywood! He walks off into the arena, while she is left looking irritated.

Notes: Queen performed poorly, but Hogan was a real star here, enjoying the freedom to improvise and performing well at being an ass. At what point is it not an act anymore?

Rating: C-

The Wonderful Destruction Crew are out to put their World Tag Team titles on the line here against The Texas Blackjacks. Dustin and Barry give one hell of a fight, and are on the verge of dethroning the champions, when the Four Horsemen attack! Rhodes and Windham pick up the victory, but not the titles in the result of the disqualification. Orndorff pulls Meng away, showing that when it comes to the Horsemen, the wily KoW members know better than to get in the way of fights they don’t need to enter. Windham and Rhodes are left lying on the mat, as Flair, Anderson, Hart, and Guerrero stand over them, four fingers in the air.

Match Time: 9:41

Rating: B-

Quick, backstage, there’s a huge commotion going on! We head back to see the Road Warriors, and they’re being thrown around the room by the New World Order! The debris of Jeff Jarrett’s guitar can be seen on the floor around the fallen body of Animal, while Scott Hall and Vader are punching away at Hawk against the wall. The “leader” of the group is not there, but the three members are more than enough in what looks to have been a complete sneak attack!

Notes: Jarrett was very underwhelming here.

Rating: C

We head to the ring to find “The Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman, ready for his main event matchup against Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. The two’s match is great, as their high flying yet technical styles make for an exciting contest that really get the crowd involved. Steamboat seems to be drifting semi-aimlessly at the moment, still on the fringes of the Horsemen feud but not actively involved at the moment, but Brian, having been granted a World championship match in three weeks at Halloween Havoc, has a lot to prove here as his credibility goes. Whether he gets more cred in this match or not is left to the viewer to decide, as he wins it thanks to his feet being on the ropes during the pinfall, angering Steamboat, but all he can do is complain at referee Tommy Young as Pillman leaves ringside, laughing maniacally.

Match Time: 12:15

Rating: B+

Lex Luger comes back out to the ring, and he has a microphone in hand as he looks into the sky. He calls upon Sting, asking his old friend to answer for what he’s done. Luger says that it seems all the pressure is finally getting to “The Stinger” and he needs to take a step back and look at what he’s doing to WCW. “Taking the title like a common thief? This is not the Stinger that we all know and adore!” Lex says that he’s not been a perfect friend, but now, he’s ready to help show Sting the way, and get back what they lost in the past. Rather than Sting, however, Hollywood Hogan and The Giant come out to the ring, and Hogan tells Giant to get the mic from Gary Cappetta. It doesn’t take much threatening, as Gary gives it up quickly in the face of the 7’4” behemoth. Hogan says that this isn’t “Days of our Lives” or even “Thunder in Paradise”; Luger needs to get out of the way, because Hollywood is going to take his belt back by force come Halloween Havoc. Hogan says that the reason Sting stole the belt is because he was jealous – but all along, Hogan has had a place in the Kings of Wrestling for Sting, to be at his side instead of trying to fight the power of Hollywood and all his Kings! Luger scoffs, saying that Sting would never join the KoW, or the nWo – but Hogan laughs that off, saying that a few years ago, Sting also would never have stolen the title and hid it in the rafters, either. Hogan puts a finger in Luger’s chest and tells him that Sting has seen the light, and the only colors that matter are in black and white; to take his rightful place among the Kings of Wrestling! Hogan says that Sting has obviously made a good decision, joining with the KoW – as he hasn’t cleaned off the spraypaint on the title. Hogan turns and tells Luger that he could have had a spot as well, but he has never been good enough, and that’s why he is of no threat in the ladder match. Luger angrily replies that Hogan should know how much of a threat he is, but when Lex gets into the champion’s face, The Giant steps in between them! Luger says that if Hogan says he’s such a non-threat, then how about putting the championship on the line against him, before Halloween Havoc – namely, next week on WCW Nitro! Hogan starts to laugh off the challenge, but another voice tells him that he should accept…

Sting has joined the scene, talking down from up in the rafters and telling Hogan that if he does not give Luger a chance at winning the title here next week, then maybe it should just stay with “The Stinger” after Havoc, and Hollywood will never see it again! Sting says that the belt means little at this moment, so he’s left it there as a reminder that until honor is restored to the championship, the way it looks means nothing. Sting reiterates his free agency though, and says that maybe he is leaning toward joining Hogan finally, being on top of the wrestling world along with the men who made wrestling in the first place; but he could also join with Pillman and the New World Order just as easily, and be a part of the new wave of athletes who are going to take WCW by storm. He says that it’s strange, that WCW appreciated him enough that he had to steal the World Heavyweight championship just to get to appear on the new flagship of Nitro! Luger drops his head, but he isn’t able to get in any other words as Sting says that nobody has seen the last of Sting, but round and round we continue to go – and where we stop, nobody knows. He says again that “the only thing for sure about ‘The Stinger’ is that nothing is for sure”, before he leaves the area; leaving everyone just as confused as last week, but with an incredible main event set up for next week’s edition of WCW Monday Nitro!

Notes: Luger worked the crowd well here, the freedom of improvising used to full advantage; much better than earlier in the night.

Ratings: B- (Hogan/Luger) / B+ (Sting)

WCW Television: October 7th/8th, 1995

<iframe width="320" height="240" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/62ZdaPycJP8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

“This week on WCW Saturday Night! Hollywood Hogan takes on the young JPL! Power meets power as Smash faces off with Ron Simmons! Brad Armstrong goes one-on-one with Rick Martel! The United States title is on the line as new champion DDP faces Syxx! All tonight on WCW Saturday Night!”

Taped on Thursday, October 5th, 1995

Held at: The Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada (The Prairies)

Commentary: Tony Schiavone and Terry Funk

Attendance: 5,000 (sell out!)

Show Runtime: Two Hours

Rating: B-

This show gained us popularity in 2 regions, but lost it in 14.

Diamond Dallas Page starts this episode of WCW Saturday Night, defending his newly won United States championship against the sneaky Syxx. Someone else is sneakier though, as Rey Mysterio Jr. comes out and stands at the entrance. He doesn’t do anything, but it distracts Syxx, who whiffs on a spinning kick and gets planted with the Diamond Cutter.

Match Time: 8:43

Rating: C+

Nitro recap video: the Four Horsemen attack Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham, causing a disqualification in the World Tag Team title match.

Rating: C-

The Four Horsemen join us with pre-recorded comments, each of them getting time to talk about their various foes. Namely, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, Antonio Inoki, and Bobby Eaton.

Notes: Bobby Heenan helped Arn, Owen, and Eddy. Anderson was a real star in this, and Owen’s performance was fantastic.

Rating: C-

We go from there to “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, World TV title contender. He’s standing by with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, who is asking Eaton about how he feels regarding his chances against Eddy Guerrero, who is not only much younger, but also has Bobby “The Weasel” Heenan on the outside of the ring. A voice from off-screen interrupts, saying that’s not a problem anymore – in walks “Sweet” Stan Lane!! Lane says that he has sat on the sidelines for way too long, and now he’s back in WCW to stand at his old partner’s side!

Notes: Stan didn’t improvise well, but Gene was superb, also looking good in this. He really sold the surprise of Lane’s appearance well.

Rating: D

The Steiner Brothers are on for pre-recorded comments now, talking about the Wonderful Destruction Crew. Scott says that time is running short on Paul and Meng’s title reign, and Rick talks about how Meng might be a scary guy, but nothing in wrestling is more terrifying than the Frankensteiner!

Notes: Scott struggled and Rick didn’t do well when off-script tonight.

Rating: C-

Back to the KoW locker room to see Hollywood Hogan, Randy Savage, California Kip, Eric Bischoff, Jimmy Hart, and a very disinterested Queen. Hogan talks about how this stuff with Sting and Lex Luger is getting to be bogus (brother) as he shouldn’t have to be defending his title until Halloween Havoc at the earliest, but if he wants his belt back, he has to play by Sting’s rules. Savage is mostly just talking about Cactus Jack, saying that in the tag match at Havoc, he’s going to end Jack, and Austin needs to keep to himself in it or else he’ll slap him around too. Kip keeps mostly to himself, but he does add that they will always have the force of the KoW behind them. Jimmy Hart laughs, and Hogan says that the plan for tonight and Monday is the same as it always is.

Notes: Hogan was superb, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He looked good here. Bischoff enjoyed the freedom to be off-script and performed well, but he didn’t look very good.

Nitro recap video: the Road Warriors answer the challenge of the New World Order, but the nWo get the last laugh by assaulting Hawk and Animal afterwards. ©

We are joined by the New World Order for some words now. “Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman keeps saying “fifteen days, ha ha ha, fifteen days, ha ha ha” before explaining that there is fifteen days until Halloween Havoc, until he climbs the ladder, breaks that glass ceiling, and wins the World Heavyweight title… and gains the loyalty and respect of his best friend Sting. Scott Hall is on a different matter entirely, saying that Havoc will be the right name for what they do to the Road Warriors at the show. He adds that they’re going to spay and neuter Animal. Jeff says that while there are a lot of hunting seasons, one that’s year-round is killing hawks; and he’s going to be fully loaded come Halloween Havoc, emphasizing it by aiming his guitar neck like a rifle. Vader screams about being the man who feels no pain, and Pillman yells “FIFTEEN DAYS! FIFTEEN DAYS!” into the camera, as it fades out.

Notes: Pillman and Jarrett improvised well, but Hall was superb, really selling the determination. He came across very well. Vader struggled a little, not really being on point.

Rating: B-

Brad Armstrong is in our next match, with brother BG sitting in on commentary, as he takes on Rick Martel. The two have a very solid match-up, but Martel comes out the better, getting Brad in the Quebec Crab to get the victory.

Match Time: 7:45

Rating: C-

Nitro recap video: the majority of the segment involving Hollywood Hogan talking to Lex Luger, and then Sting chiming in and forcing a title match this coming Monday night on Nitro!

Rating: B+

Mike Tenay brings in his guests at this time, 2 Cold Scorpio along with Dawn Marie. Scorpio asks where is Marcus Bagwell? He ventures a guess that Bagwell is running scared, afraid of what Scorpio would do to him next. This interview was kept short, as it didn’t have much to do other than establish that Scorpio says he’s done with Bagwell.

Rating: D+

The Giant is out for his next victim, who ends up being Terry Taylor. Taylor may be a great veteran who has seen it all and faced it down, but Giant is big, mean, nasty, and hungry, and he makes short work out of Taylor, ending him with the Chokeslam.

Match Time: 4:46

Rating: E+

Back to Mike Tenay, who is now standing by with Larry Zbyszko and Lance Storm, but also with WCW Cruiserweight champion Ultimo Dragon and Sonny Onoo. Larry does most of the talking, as he talks about a tag team matchup going on next week on Saturday Night; Storm and Ultimo taking on Dean Malenko and Rey Mysterio Jr. Zbyszko promises victory for both his client and also to Onoo and his champion.

Rating: D

Rick Rude is holding the microphone now, for “Lionheart” Chris Jericho. Jericho talks about Halloween Havoc, saying that Havoc will be his “coming out party” – which draws a look from Rude that makes him change his phrasing to Havoc being the night that he shows he is the true hero to all the Jerichoholics out there, all the converted Little Stingers who have been turned aside by the selfish Sting.

Notes: Jericho performed poorly; this pairing with Rude may not last for long.

Rating: C+

Smash is in action now, taking on big Ron Simmons. This is a big power match, as both men are large, strong brawlers. The win finally goes to Simmons, who hits a big leaping shoulderblock out of nowhere to put his painted foe down for the three count.

Match Time: 7:57

Rating: C+

Some strange bedfellows are together as Steve Austin is drinking a beer alongside Havoc partner, Cactus Jack. Austin keeps trying to get Jack to drink with him, but Cactus tells him he has children watching. Jack steers the promo toward Halloween Havoc, saying that as much as he loves Christmas, maybe this year, getting his hands on Savage and Piper, he’s going to love Halloween just a little bit more!

Notes: Jack was superb here, and looked really good, but Austin didn’t do well off-script for a change.

Rating: B+

Hollywood Hogan is heading out to the ring with The Queen behind him, not seeming very interested. Hogan catches on, and he starts telling her that he really would hate for her to be under breach of contract by not coming to the ring with him. When she says that she could be doing far more important things with her evening, Hogan gets really upset, saying that they have a good deal, and he can make or break her if he wanted to, because he’s Hollywood Hogan! Queen looks to fire back, but instead the argument is interrupted by the appearance of Ichii Yazaki. He says nothing, but Hogan just asks if he minds, as they are having a business discussion. He doesn’t move, and Hogan finally just leaves. Queen silently mouths “thank you” at him, as she follows Hogan to the ring. Yazaki looks on, his mask hiding any emotion, but his body language says just how worried he may be.

Notes: Hogan was fantastic here, but Yazaki looked dreadful.

Rating: D

JPL hits the ring for the biggest match in his career, a non-title match against Hollywood Hogan. These two have a good match with one another, and as JPL rallies back at the end and sets Hogan up for the Pedigree, out comes Randy Savage. “Macho Man” jumps up on the apron, causing a distraction that takes JPL away for a moment – as he tells Savage to “suck it!” But that means he dropped Hogan, and when JPL turns around, Hollywood catches him with a running forearm smash, leading into the big boot and legdrop for the victory.

Match Time: 16:13

Rating: B

Hogan leaves the ring, but apparently Savage is not quite finished. He gets in the ring and slaps JPL, before slamming him and going to the top rope – flying elbow! He goes up and hits another one! JPL is down and out on the mat, and Savage looks into the camera, saying “this’ll be you, Cactus!” The message is sent; Randy is ready to take Cactus out!

Notes: The crowd found JPL to be very underwhelming here.

Rating: C

The show would have ended there, but we go to one final segment; WCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel is standing in a room, and he brings in “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper! Piper says that it feels as though it’s been awhile since he addressed everyone, but he and Nick have just been sitting back and watching. He says they’ve been waiting to see how things go in WCW and the KoW and the nWo; and while he’s not going to spill the beans about what they’ve seen yet, one thing is for sure – that “punk kid” Austin needs to go “suck an egg”, and maybe Piper will just have to make him do so at Halloween Havoc. He says that he and Randy are legends in this business, while Austin and Cactus are nobodies, and never will be anybody, because they just can’t break the ceiling. He says nobody comes to shows to see a redneck swilling his booze, or to see someone throw himself around because he likes pain, and they never will. “For the crime of thinking you’re better and more important than you really are – I guess you boys are just gonna have to pay the Piper.”

Notes: Piper did some masterful improvising here, his performance was very good; just why we figured he would be great to close the show.

Rating: B+

<p>WCW Monday Nitro - October 9th, 1995</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><iframe width="350" height="263" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cXXWw8AneQw?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p> <em>“Last week on </em><em><strong>WCW Monday Nitro!</strong></em><em> </em></p><p><em> Sting forced a title match between Hollywood Hogan and Lex Luger for tonight! They talk briefly about how TNT aired two clips during the previous show’s commercial breaks, one showing Lex Luger and the Road Warriors talking to Gene Okerlund, and another showing that Sting is up in the rafters… but the biggest thing is that when we pan into the arena, <em><strong>there’s a cage down around the ring!!</strong></em> And the World title match is up next!!</p><p> <em>Notes: Both men oddly struggled with improvising here.</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p><p> </p><p> The crowd are in shock as we actually START with the World Heavyweight championship match, and inside a cage! <strong>Hollywood Hogan</strong> comes out with The Queen, complaining the whole way down the ramp, but <strong>“The Total Package”</strong> just looks on with a big smile, as that means it’ll be harder for the KoW to interfere! Hogan controls a lot of this match, but Luger doesn’t give up easily. Lex finally starts running Hollywood into the cage, and he gets ready to hook up the Torture Rack… when The Giant makes his presence felt. He <em>rips the door loose from the hinges</em> and enters the cage, along with Randy Savage and California Kip! But storming down to the ring comes the Road Warriors! Hawk and Animal hit the ring, and it’s a huge brawl! As much as the crowd doesn’t like it, this one gets thrown out. One more person makes his way into the ring though, as down from the rafters rappels <strong>Sting</strong>! He chases everyone but Hogan and Luger out by pointing his bat at them, and he then points it toward Hogan… and then toward Luger. Both men try to talk to him, but Sting merely gives each man a cold stare. When all is calmed down (except for the crowd, who are going crazy to find out what will happen!) Sting jumps out of the ring and leaves through the audience! Tony and Jesse are both stunned, and Schiavone asks the big question: what is going on with Sting?</p><p> <em>Match Time: 11:43</em></p><p><em> Ratings: B (match) / A (angle)</em></p><p> </p><p> As a breather for the audience, a graphic shows that this week on WCW Saturday Night, “Macho Man” Randy Savage will be in action to take on the man he brutally assaulted last week, JPL.</p><p> <em>Rating: B-</em></p><p> </p><p> In our next match, one-half of the World Tag Team champions <strong>Meng</strong> takes on one of his challengers for Halloween Havoc in <strong>“The Dog Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner</strong>. Paul Orndorff and Scott Steiner accompanied their partners to ringside, but neither got involved, being there solely for moral support. This is a hard-hitting contest, as both men are known for their brawling strikes more than their mat work. Surprisingly, Meng is able to withstand a Steinerline and locks on the Tongan Deathgrip, and Rick goes down to it, passing out from the hold! The advantage goes to the champions tonight!</p><p> <em>Match Time: 7:51</em></p><p><em> Rating: B-</em></p><p> </p><p> “Mean” Gene Okerlund catches up with <strong>Hollywood Hogan</strong>, <strong>The Giant</strong>, and The Queen backstage. Queen doesn’t seem to be paying any attention as Hogan rants about what happened out there earlier tonight. He says that it was bogus that he was put in a cage in the first place, let alone being thrown out there in the first match of the night “like a common jobber!” He says that WCW will pay for this, and they’ll pay dearly. Gene asks about Sting, but Hogan just says that he doesn’t know or care what Sting’s problem is, but that the KoW’s offer is still on the table. Giant just screams in the background, but when Okerlund brings up that it looked as though Hogan was about to lose, this man (pointing to Giant) pulled the door off, Hogan asks Gene what he is insinuating; that Hollywood can’t get it done? Hogan threatens Gene, saying that if he has something to say, go ahead and say it – but remember that whoever crosses him, crosses The Giant as well. Giant holds up his hand, which is nearly bigger than Gene’s head, and Okerlund says “To hell with this, I’m out of here!” before storming away.</p><p> <em>Notes: Hogan improvised superbly, and really came across well. Gene was masterful as well.</em></p><p><em> Rating: B</em></p><p> </p><p> How do you end a show that featured a huge World title cage match? With a really great, old school match, as <strong>Barry Windham</strong> takes on sometimes-friend-sometimes-enemy <strong>“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair</strong>. This is a classic rivalry, with two men who know what to do against one another in the ring. The crowd are on fire here, and the end requires outside interference. Barry tries putting Flair in his own figure four, but Arn Anderson smashes a tire iron over the head of Windham! Tommy Young didn’t see it at all, and when Flair puts Barry into the figure four leglock, he’s so unresponsive that Tommy calls for the bell, ending this one by stoppage.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 16:25</em></p><p><em> Rating: B+</em></p><p> </p><p> As Tony says that we are staying on the air for just a few extra minutes tonight, we cut to a lone camera in the darkness, which can just barely make out the shape of the World Heavyweight championship! A low light flips on, and <strong>Sting</strong> is right there to say “Boo!” and chuckle at himself. He says that this is his time to address the people, but he can only think of two who need addressed right now. He says that Hollywood Hogan, that scum, that cancer on the heart of wrestling, well he might have a point; just look at how WCW treated him. “But then again, just look at how they’ve treated me, and then talk about how bad things have been!” He says that Hogan was thrown a curveball, and he responded by needing others to come to his aid, which doesn’t sound like a very grand leader thing to do. Sting adds that Luger did the same, though; “maybe there really is something to this whole gang mentality that’s running around here as of late.” Sting also talks about Chris Jericho, saying that one of two things will happen at Havoc; either the boy will become a man, or he will be taken to the woodshed. He closes by saying that at this point, even he doesn’t truly know what he’s about to do next – but one thing’s for sure, and that is nothing is for sure. He says that he will “see you all for Halloween” before grabbing the championship and turning out the lights, leaving us in pitch blackness.</p><p> <em>Rating: C+</em></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWlogo.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p>

Eddy Guerrero is on commentary, talking about how he is not going to let Eaton get some fluke rollup again at Halloween Havoc and lose the TV title. This one has some good, high flying action, even though the crowd aren’t really into this one. Eaton counters a flying bodypress by rolling through, and Stan celebrates as Bobby picks up the victory in this great opening contest.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 6:56</em></p><p><em> Rating: C+</em></p><p> </p><p> “Mean” Gene Okerlund is talking to <strong>Arn Anderson</strong>, <strong>Owen Hart</strong>, and when he gets backstage, <strong>Eddy Guerrero</strong>. Arn does all the talking here, as he says that as the main heads of the Horsemen here tonight, he and Bobby sent Eddy out to the ring purposely so he could get some insight on Eaton. He says that they are a mere fifteen days away from Halloween Havoc, and that means Dustin Rhodes has fifteen days to say his prayers before he steps into the street fight with “The Enforcer”. Heenan closes the interview, saying that all the humanoids need to watch Halloween Havoc, because it’ll be the scariest day of Dustin Rhodes’s life. Arn and Bobby reinforce the notion that “nobody defeats all four of the Horsemen – nobody.”</p><p> <em>Notes: Heenan helped Anderson here, and Arn really looked good. Eddy underperformed though.</em></p><p><em> Rating: B-</em></p><p> </p><p> We go to pre-taped interview footage now, to see <strong>“Macho Man” Randy Savage</strong> and <strong>Hollywood Hogan</strong> in a limousine. Hogan talks about how Lex Luger at Havoc will be a breeze, because he’s already beaten him once. He laughs about how easy it should be to get his title back, “just climb the ladder, brother”. Savage talks about Saturday Night, saying that once he gets past “that little pit stop” he’s going to get Cactus out there in the ring and he’s going to introduce him to the danger zone, yeah!</p><p> <em>Notes: Hogan did some masterful improvising here.</em></p><p><em> Rating: A</em></p><p> </p><p> Just to get a good look at things, we go back to Nitro to see the aftermath of the steel cage match, where Sting held Hollywood Hogan and Lex Luger apart by pointing his bat at each of them.</p><p> <em>Rating: B-</em></p><p> </p><p> From there, it’s over to Tony Schiavone and Terry Funk, who hype our main event tonight of Randy Savage and JPL, who Savage was calling “the pit stop”.</p><p> <em>Rating: C-</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ron Simmons</strong> is in position for an interview, but it doesn’t even get started until he gets interrupted by <strong>Johnny B. Badd</strong>! Badd hijacks the interview, saying that “people like them” have been getting screwed over by WCW for far too long, and they need to stand up by joining together! Badd asks Simmons to be his muscle in the fight against the world. Ron thinks about it, but says that the only man he is muscle for is himself, and so he respectfully declines, before leaving. Badd shakes his head, as we head to the ring.</p><p> <em>Rating: B-</em></p><p> </p><p> Some fast-paced cruiserweight action is going on in the next match, as <strong>Lance Storm</strong> teams with champion <strong>Ultimo Dragon</strong> to take on <strong>Rey Mysterio Jr.</strong> and <strong>Dean Malenko</strong>. Tony and Terry discuss that Storm and Malenko will meet at Halloween Havoc in one-on-one action. Syxx makes his way down to ringside to be a thorn in everyone’s side, but Juventud Guerrera comes down to nullify his presence. This is a great combination of high flying and matwork depending on who is in the ring at any given second, and it breaks down into a free-for-all. Ultimo takes a moment to kick toward Guerrera, and that split second proves to be his downfall as he turns around into a cradle by Mysterio for the pinfall!</p><p> <em>Match Time: 8:36</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes</strong> is backstage alongside Gene Okerlund, and Gene is asking him about his match coming up at Halloween Havoc. With Magnum TA at his side, Dustin says that if nobody beats all four Horsemen, “then I guess you can call me nobody, because I’ll be just the man to do it!” Rhodes says that his father used to beat the Horsemen at their own game all the time, and he is going to show that it runs in the family. “It started with Guerrero, and followed with Hart. Next, it’ll be Anderson. And then, there’s only one left, and I’ll be seeing him in the ring soon enough!”</p><p> <em>Notes: Dustin worked the crowd well here, using the freedom of improvisation to his advantage. Also, Magnum’s presence really helps out.</em></p><p><em> Rating: B</em></p><p> </p><p> In a short, unoffensive match, <strong>Sgt. Buddy Parker</strong> gets shown some southern justice by <strong>Tracy Smothers</strong>, who quickly puts away the lawman with a thrust kick.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 5:12</em></p><p><em> Rating: D</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Rocker” Marty Jannetty</strong> is ready to rock ‘til he drops, but in this one he takes on <strong>“Lionheart” Chris Jericho</strong>. Commentary draw some heavy comparisons to the two men due to their high flying action, but this one is pretty clear from the get-go. Jericho locks in the Liontamer (albeit a “softer” version for the aging Jannetty) to pick up the submission victory. Afterwards, Jericho and his consultant Rick Rude meet up to “Mean” Gene at the top of the ramp, and Jericho talks about his match at Halloween Havoc. He tells fans to mark their calendars, because October 29th will be the day they learn that their hero Sting has been replaced by the newer, better, more improved hero.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 6:48</em></p><p><em> Notes: Jericho improvised well, but he performed poorly. Gene used the freedom of improvising to his advantage though.</em></p><p><em> Ratings: D+ (match) / C+ (interview)</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Eric Bischoff</strong> is seen walking backstage in footage that is marked “backstage at Nitro”. He is furious, as he finds <strong>Nick Bockwinkel</strong> in his office doing paperwork. Eric puts a finger in Nick’s face, telling him that he has “some big you-know-what” by pulling that stunt tonight with the cage. Bockwinkel is surprised, saying that he never put in for that; he assumed Eric had. Bischoff says that he knows Nick has been working closer to Piper than Hogan, but he needs to keep in mind who is the World Heavyweight champion. Nick gets up and points his finger right back in Eric’s face, saying that he didn’t do it, and he had nothing to do with it! A familiar laugh interrupts the two KoW members, as <strong>Ted Dibiase</strong> joins the scene, and he says that who else would have done such a thing but him! He says that even though he’s only the majority stockholder in WCW, as compared to vice president or commissioner, “money still talks more than what your you-know-what walks!” Ted laughs his way out of the scene, as Eric and Nick look on… but one can’t help but notice some dirty looks shot toward Bischoff by Bockwinkel. Tony talks about how there is a huge power struggle playing out in front of us!</p><p> <em>Notes: Eric was very underwhelming in the presence of these two legends.</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p><p> </p><p> We saw him being respectful earlier, but once the bell sounds, <strong>Ron Simmons</strong> is just ferocious as he tears into <strong>Finlay</strong> in this match. These two put on a very hard-hitting affair, as Funk talks about how tough both of these men are. But Simmons is like a house of fire, and he ends up putting Finlay down with a flying shoulder tackle. But instead of Ron’s music playing, out comes <strong>Johnny B. Badd</strong>! Badd gets in the ring and seems to be telling Ron that there’s no hard feelings that he turned him down. But a left hand! Out of nowhere, and Simmons is down! Johnny starts putting the boots to him, screaming that you don’t just turn Johnny B. Badd down! He leaves the ring when security start coming out, but the damage seems to be done… now how will he deal with the repercussions that are sure to be coming his way?</p><p> <em>Match Time: 6:48</em></p><p><em> Ratings: C+ (match) / B (attack)</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Hysteria</strong> is in the ring, but <strong>The Giant</strong> squashes him like a bug.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 2:24</em></p><p><em> Rating: E+</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Wonderful Destruction Crew</strong> are out next in what should be a pretty standard non-title win against the <strong>Rock ‘n Roll Express</strong>. Orndorff and Meng keep the match under control for the most part, especially when working over Morton in their side of the ring. But out of the back come the Steiner Brothers! They don’t enter the ring, but they keep Jimmy Hart from doing anything, and it leads to a fast schoolboy rollup by Gibson – and he gets the pin over Meng! Ricky and Robert get out of there and celebrate their huge victory over the champions, as the Steiners have just gotten a receipt from Meng defeating Rick on Nitro!</p><p> <em>Match Time: 11:39</em></p><p><em> Rating: C+</em></p><p> </p><p> A helpful graphic displays that tomorrow night on WCW Main Event, there will be a one-on-one match between Tom Prichard and Rick Martel that you won’t want to miss!</p><p> <em>Rating: C-</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>JPL</strong> is all business as he enters the ring for the main event against <strong>“Macho Man” Randy Savage</strong> tonight. The crowd is solidly behind him (aside from the section who always cheer for guys like Hogan and Savage on general legendary principle) for this huge matchup. The two really tear the house down, delivering a great matchup for the North Dakota crowd, and JPL nearly gets his biggest win ever quite a few times. There’s a lot to say for experience though, and there’s even more to say for taking a foreign object out of your boot to punch your opponent with! That’s exactly what Savage does, and one flying elbow drop later, this one is over.</p><p> <em>Match Time: 10:29</em></p><p><em> Rating: B</em></p><p> </p><p> Savage takes the microphone from Gary Cappetta after the match, and he calls out Cactus Jack, saying that he knows Jack is here! <strong>Cactus Jack</strong> makes his way out of the back as Terry calls to him from commentary not to go out there while Savage is like this! Randy says that “maybe you do have some guts after all, eh?” as he basically just goads Jack into the ring – but Cactus blocks a punch from the foreign object, firing back with his own punches! The two fight around the ring, and a Cactus clothesline puts the two on the ring floor! “Macho Man” isn’t done though, and he makes a charge at Jack once the men have regained their bearings! Tony says that this will be even more chaotic when you add Steve Austin and Roddy Piper to this fight, when the four men spin the wheel and make the deal at Halloween Havoc! WCW security finally start pouring out of the back to try and pull Savage and Cactus apart, and the show closes with them trying to get at one another yet!</p><p> <em>Rating: A</em></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> <span style="font-size:8px;"><iframe width="220" height="124" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AahYei4Zuw0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"> </span><span style="font-size:8px;"><strong>WCW Main Event </strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"> </span><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Announcers: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Gary Michael Cappetta</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> </em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Steve Armstrong d. "What ya gonna do, brother, when Hulkamania can't go up a ladder!" Can't wait for Pillman's title reign as neither Hogan nor Luger can climb that ladder.<img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Especially when Sting yo-yo's the title away if by some miracle one of them can.

Fan Scoresheet (Comments not necessary, but always appreciated!)

Hollywood Hogan w/The Queen vs. Lex Luger vs Brian Pillman

Comments: It's too obvious for me that Pillman would win a Ladder match against these guys; so clearly Hogan will retain.

Ric Flair w/Bobby Heenan vs. Antonio Inoki w/Magnum TA

Comments: Has to be doesn't it? I doubt Inoki will be around in the long term.

Randy Savage & Roddy Piper w/Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Austin & Cactus Jack

Comments: Given I have Hogan retaining; it makes sense to get these guys a win and situate them as legit challengers.

Arn Anderson w/Bobby Heenan vs. Dustin Rhodes w/Magnum TA

Comments: Dustin moves on to face Flair at Starrcade?

Chris Jericho w/Rick Rude vs. Sting

Comments: Sting doesn't turn up or something involving the KOW prevents him from turning up - Jericho steals a 'victory' and brags about it.

The Wonderful Destruction Crew w/Jimmy Hart vs. The Steiner Brothers

Comments: I'm stealing TFC's idea - holla if you hear me!

The New World Order vs. The Road Warriors

Hollywood Hogan w/The Queen vs. Lex Luger vs Brian Pillman

Comments: I've got a gut feeling that this is the match that Hogan loses the title in. Pillman would be the obvious choice given the ladder match stipulation, but I'm putting my money on Luger coming out on top to mix things up a bit.

Ric Flair w/Bobby Heenan vs. Antonio Inoki w/Magnum TA

Comments: Inoki probably won't be around long term, and even if that wasn't the case I'd probably still go with Naitch.

Randy Savage & Roddy Piper w/Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Austin & Cactus Jack

Comments: The vets put over the up and comers in this one.

Arn Anderson w/Bobby Heenan vs. Dustin Rhodes w/Magnum TA

Comments: I like what you're doing with Dustin and I think he'll pull out the win in this one.

Chris Jericho w/Rick Rude vs. Sting

Comments: Given Sting's current role in the main event/World Title scene, I don't see him losing this one and a loss to the Stinger wouldn't hurt Jericho at all.

The Wonderful Destruction Crew w/Jimmy Hart vs. The Steiner Brothers

Comments: Normally I'd go with the Steiners but you have been pushing these guys quite a bit and they have been on a roll so I'm going with them in this one.

The New World Order vs. The Road Warriors

Comments: Given that I don't have Pillman winning the main event, I'm going with the New World Order winning here to keep them hot.

Eddy Guerrero w/Bobby Heenan vs. Bobby Eaton w/Stan Lane

Comments: Gotta go with Eddie in this one.

Lance Storm w/Larry Zbyszko vs. Dean Malenko

Comments: Should be one hell of a wrestling match.

Fan Scoresheet (Comments not necessary, but always appreciated!)

Hollywood Hogan w/The Queen vs. Lex Luger vs Brian Pillman

Comments: Luger acts as the opportunist as Hogan and Pillman descend into a wild melee.

Ric Flair w/Bobby Heenan vs. Antonio Inoki w/Magnum TA

Comments: They don't call him the dirtiest player in the game just to sell T-shirts. He'll pull a rabbit out of the hat to get a big win over Inoki.

Randy Savage & Roddy Piper w/Nick Bockwinkel vs. Steve Austin & Cactus Jack

Comments: Piper KOs Savage and walks out on the Kings of Wrestling.

Arn Anderson w/Bobby Heenan vs. Dustin Rhodes w/Magnum TA

Comments: This is where you can elevate Dustin Rhodes into a feud with Flair.

Chris Jericho w/Rick Rude vs. Sting

Comments: Jericho will come close and give Sting a helluva fight, but the Stinger will prevail and Jericho will come up with some weasely excuse.

The Wonderful Destruction Crew w/Jimmy Hart vs. The Steiner Brothers

Comments: Orndorff and Meng seem to be the hot hand, and as someone else mentioned earlier, this could be the right time to turn Scott against Rick.

The New World Order vs. The Road Warriors

Comments: Double disqualification here as this match devolves into utter chaos.

Eddy Guerrero w/Bobby Heenan vs. Bobby Eaton w/Stan Lane

Comments: Bobby Eaton will look strong here, forcing Eddy Guerrero to come up with some underhanded tactics to win the bout.

Lance Storm w/Larry Zbyszko vs. Dean Malenko

Comments: Malenko will beat Storm with a move he hadn't seen before, thus why he's the Man of 1,000 Holds.

Fun Fan Signs:

"Eddy's Eaton Defeat!"

Tiebreaker Questions:

1. Will Sting get involved during, after, or not at all for the World Heavyweight title match? After to challenge the winner

2. Will anyone turn? Yes, Scott Steiner

3. Who will lose the fall in the Steiners vs. WDC match? Rick Steiner

4. What match will start the show? Chris Jericho vs. Sting

5. What will be the best match of the show? Hogan vs. Luger vs. Pillman for the sheer star power and overness.
