Not just the lyrics to a John Lennon Christmas classic, but the basis for this article here on Wrestle-Spirit.Net. 2012 saw some incredible highs (as well as some brutal lows) in not just the WWE, but in the professional wrestling world in general. From the amazing highs of CM Punks year long reign (and still going strong) and the rise of the incredible force known as The Shield, to the heartbreaking lows of seeing talent like Dolph Ziggler struggling to get a win despite being the holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase and The Miz trying his absolute hardest to be quite possibly the WORST babyface in all of Pro Wrestling. But with the New Year comes a new start, and a new opportunity to reignite a product that, whilst not broken, is definitely worn out. With news that WWE C.O.O Triple H has taken a more prominent role within the company in regards to talent, things may turn a corner. Whether that will be for better or worse remains to be seen, but judging by his recent track record (Triple H is said to be the man who pushed for Dean Ambrose to be brought to T.V and pushed), the signs are good. With this being the start of the calendar year, in this article I will list WWE’s roster, as well as give my views and predictions on exactly where I think certain superstars, as well as the company in general, is headed. A woman giving her views on Professional Wrestling? What has this world come to? Shall we begin? I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, but for example, as talented as Ted DiBiase and Michael McGuillicutty are, when was the last time they did anything of significance? The honest answer is I don’t remember. In my view, either do something with them or cut them loose. Their talent is wasted. The same goes for guys like Tyson Kidd and Trent Baretta, two guys who are LOADED with talent, yet are being wasted. Also, just how STACKED is the babyface side in the Main Event scene? Far too many Babyface’s (and some of them not very good ones). The balance really needs to change as they appear to be running out of opponents for the babyface’s to face. But hey, what does a woman know? <div style="text-align:center;">Ones To Watch:</div> Here I will list my top three Superstars who I think will be a big part of WWE’s plans in the next year (or perhaps it’s just wishful thinking). Daniel Bryan Please, PLEASE, push this man into the Main Event. This guy is a star. Listen to the crowd whenever he enters a building. The fans absolutely love him. The fans are telling you what they want, they are practically begging for Bryan to break into the Main Event. He has proved he can do it over and over again. I think now is the time for WWE to pull the trigger. Dolph Ziggler Read above statement and that pretty much covers my feelings on Dolph Ziggler too. I think you can tell by his demeanour as well as his comments on Social Media that he is frustrated. And he has every right to be. He is on the cusp of being a Main Event star, he has a Money in the Bank briefcase with a guaranteed World Heavyweight Championship match, and yet he is losing week after week on Raw and Smackdown. Ziggler NEEDS this push. He has the tools. Wade Barrett I love Wade Barrett. Yes I said it, and not just because I love a man with a British accent (although that is a bonus). He has everything going for him; he has size, he has charisma, he can go in the ring, everything he does looks legit. He has it all. But for whatever reason he has the unenviable task of being Intercontinental Champion. Why unenviable? Because it seems whoever holds a secondary title in WWE is destined to lose week after week, making their reign meaningless (Hi Antonio Cesaro, how ya doin’?). I truly hope Barrett at least gets a World Title run before the year is through.</div></div></blockquote> <div style="text-align:center;">The Crystal Ball:</div> So, what are my predictions for the year? What does the future hold for the men and women of the WWE? Let’s take a look into Lacey’s Crystal Ball... <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36267" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">CM PUNK REIGNS SUPREME I predict CM Punk to be holding the WWE Title going into 2014. Unlikely? Maybe, but then who would have predicted Punk would go an entire calendar year without dropping the strap? CM Punk is, in my opinion, the hottest thing going right now. They have made such a big deal out of this year long title reign that dropping it to someone without a proper build to it would kind of cheapen it. They really need to build someone up to finally be able to dethrone Punk, and right now I just don’t see anybody doing that. Punk is set for a lengthy run, mark my words. THE NEW FACES OF FEAR Anybody who has tuned in to nXt will know that there is one stable that have been making a lot of noise and have heads turning; The Wyatt Family. Lead by Bray Wyatt (the former Husky Harris), The Family have been leaving fans both afraid and intrigued. Wyatt has come a long way from his days in the Nexus, and he really is someone who stands out. Look for Wyatt, along with his followers Luke Harper (former Independent wrestler Brodie Lee) and Erick Rowan, to bring their brand of mayhem to the main stage of WWE. THE SHIELD CRACKS The Shield splits this year. “Blasphemy” I hear you cry! I know it sounds crazy. I mean after all, they are riding a wave of momentum right now that is almost unparalleled. And along with Punk, they are the best thing going right now. So why split them? For the simple reason that they are being built so well right now as a team, and the fans have seen enough of them to know they could more than survive on their own. Ambrose is a star in the making, no doubt about it. Rollins has all the characteristics to be a great babyface. And whilst I wasn’t sure about Roman Reigns at first glance, I actually believe he could be a very good wrestler. Plus he has the look that Vince and company love. The Shield is hot, no doubt. And I think they will roll on for a while longer. But I don’t see them being together by the year’s end.</div></div></blockquote> So there you have it, my view on the year ahead. Anybody who read Lacey Cruise’s article “The Roster Review” will have noticed that a)The roster going into 2013 is HUGE, b) there are far too many faces and not enough heels to balance it out, and c) Lacey has amazing...eyes? Sure, let’s go with that. Will the balance be addressed within the next few months? I sure hope so. So with that, let’s take a look at what is in store for Monday Night Raw. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36267" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">The big story going in will be Ryback challenging CM Punk for the WWE Championship in a TLC Match. A pretty big match for a Raw Main Event, and a rare WWE Championship defence on TV. Ryback, despite his limited ring work, has done a pretty good job as a babyface, and the majority of fans seem to be behind him. And with an opponent like CM Punk, you are pretty much guaranteed a good match. I expect some shenanigans with The Shield seeing as they have been feuding with Ryback in the last few weeks. Still, it should be an entertaining bout nonetheless. Also being advertised to take place on Raw is Antonio Cesaro taking on Alex Riley. Yes, you read that correctly; ALEX RILEY HAS A MATCH ON MONDAY NIGHT RAW. Even more shocking is that he still has a job. With Cesaro currently feuding with The Miz, it’s interesting that they would put Cesaro in the ring with The Miz’s former protégé. A reunion between Riley and Miz, perhaps? Who knows? Could be interesting. Another match announced for Raw sees Diva’s Champion Eve compete in a non-title match with Layla. My god the Diva Division is dull. Eve isn’t currently feuding with anyone, so any match she has is pretty meaningless. They really need to start building the division soon, or ditch it completely. Although in saying that, at what point in the show would I take my obligatory toilet break? A man needs to s**t.</div></div></blockquote> Also: - Look for WWE to continue the slow simmering feud between Sheamus and Randy Orton. It seems one of these men will be turning heel in the near future, but who it will be is anyone’s guess. I quite like the way it is being built, with Sheamus helping Orton fight off The Shield against Randy’s wishes. It looks like an Orton heel turn could happen, but with the appearance of William Regal, who appears to have become a mentor of sorts for Sheamus, I can see a turn in his future too. It’s a hard one to judge, which is why I like it so much. - The Big Show/Alberto Del Rio World Title feud rolls on. And on. And on. Really, when will it end? I’m a fan of both men, but their matches, as well as their segments together, have been pretty hard to watch. The two will face off for The World Heavyweight Championship on Smackdown, so I’m guessing they will hype the match in some way on Raw. - Rhodes Scholars are set to be in action this week. Sandow and Rhodes are already booked to face Team Hell No for the titles at the Royal Rumble in three weeks, so I’m assuming they will further the story in some fashion on Raw. - The Rock. Will he be there in person? The news going round is he won’t be. Seriously, I love The Rock and everything he has done. But how can you not be there in the build up to a WWE Title match that you are in at Royal Rumble. I understand he has a busy schedule, but he knew this was happening. He knew the plan was for him to get a title shot. He should be there, simple as that. So what do you think? Leave your comments below and let your voice be heard. I’m still hung over and I have a serious case of the s**ts. This could go either way. With that in mind, let’s jump straight into things. The show opened with Ryback strutting to the ring. Say what you will, the dude looks impressive if nothing else. Ryback grabs a microphone and basically tells The Shield that whilst he hasn’t forgotten about them, tonight he has more important issues to attend to; namely winning the WWE Championship. Ryback says that CM Punk and Heyman have done nothing but run their mouths, and that tonight is the time for action. Ryback then calls Punk out, saying if he has any guts he won’t wait until the Main Event. Ryback waited for Punk, who obviously didn’t show because he’s a heel and that’s kinda what they do. However Paul Heyman did show up on stage and I had a huge man-gasm. I love this guy. Heyman stated that CM Punk, whilst more than happy to face off with Ryback, hasn’t even arrived yet. And even if he had, he certainly doesn’t fight for free. Ryback cut Heyman off and told him to cut the crap. He knows Punk is in the building. Heyman again tried to state that Punk hadn’t arrived. This of course was all part of the plan, as Punk entered through the crowd, steel chair in hand. Punk entered the ring and slammed the chair HARD into Ryback’s spine. His response? No sell it, grunt and breath heavily. It’s like the rebirth of The Ultimate Warrior. Punks expression was priceless as Ryback gave chase, running after Punk as he sprinted up the ramp and to the back, followed (very slowly may I add) by Heyman. Analysis: A decent opening to the show, with Punk clearly trying to gain an advantage heading into the TLC Match later on. Ryback is still hard to watch on the mic, he seems too forced in his delivery. Even so, it was one of his better performances. Or maybe it’s because I’m still drunk. Who knows? (A) We return from commercial, where Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow are in the ring prior to their next match. It was a pretty basic promo with Rhodes basically telling Kane and Daniel Bryan to watch this match, because this is just a taste of what is to come at the Royal Rumble. Their opponents? The Usos. I predict a win for Jimmy and Jay.....damn, I MUST be drunk. Jimmy and Jay actually put up a decent effort. I expected this to be a complete squash, but they seemed to hold their own. However the outcome was obvious from the get go, and Sandow got the three count on Jimmy Uso following a Terminus. Winners: Rhodes Scholars ©</div></div></blockquote> We now cut backstage where Vince McMahon is in his office on his cell phone, hyping next week’s RAW 20th Anniversary show. Isn’t it nice of Vince to allow the cameras to eavesdrop on his phone conversations? What a guy! He is abruptly interrupted by Paul Heyman and CM Punk. Punk goes on a tirade, telling Vince that Ryback is an animal and to put him in a TLC Match against him later on is irresponsible on his part. Vince said Punk has every right to refuse to compete tonight. However if he doesn’t, he may as well hand Vince the title now because he will STRIP Punk of the championship. Punk almost blows a gasket as he storms out, closely followed by a visibly upset Paul Heyman. Analysis: So, 20th Anniversary Raw next week. These Raw specials can either be extremely entertaining or an absolute snore fest, but looking forward to it nonetheless. Another decent segment to hype tonight’s Main Event. (C+) Next up we get Kofi Kingston in the ring. I’m a big fan of Kofi, but he really needs to change his character up a little. As talented as he is, nobody seems to care. He states that for weeks he has been coming out and telling the world that Wade Barrett will fall, and that his Intercontinental title will become Kofi Kingston’s property. So this week he is making a new statement; at the Royal Rumble, he promises to not only win the Rumble, but he will eliminate Barrett in the process. Does anybody really think that will happen? Didn’t think so. But good for you, Kofi. Kingston was quickly cut off when Barrett’s image appeared on the big screen. Barrett laughed off Kingston’s threats, saying Kingston is a peasant trying to dethrone the king that is Wade Barrett. Wade then said if Kingston really wants to prove himself, he could find him in the parking lot. That was all Kofi needed, and he sprinted to the back on the search for Barrett. The cameras finally caught up to Kofi in the back just in time to see him and Barrett exchanging blows in the parking lot as several other superstars watched on. Surprisingly Kingston began to gain the upper hand until officials and Road Agents came along to break things up. They only seem to turn up when things start to get interesting. Analysis: That was a surprisingly good segment. The Barrett/Kingston feud seems to have come from nowhere, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this, and it really made me genuinely excited for where they will go next with it. I don’t mean to sound too harsh on the Diva’s Division (too late) but there just isn’t anything there that draws me in. I like both women, but there’s no conflict, there’s no hook and in all honesty there’s no point. Winner: Eve ©</div></div></blockquote> We get the obligatory video from The Shield. Nothing new here, just each man talking about their recent beatings of Randy Orton, Sheamus and specifically Ryback. The Shield, in my eyes, are the best things going in Professional Wrestling today. Dean Ambrose did most of the talking, as usual. I can’t stress just how much I love Dean Ambrose. He is just so different to anything or anyone else on Raw or Smackdown. I think Lacey put it best in her Roster Review; he is a star in the making. Rollins and Reigns are no slouches either. Another well done and entertaining promo from The Shield. (B-) The cameras head backstage, where Randy Orton is seen watching the monitor after watching The Shield’s promo. He is soon joined by Sheamus. Where on earth did he pop up from? Sheamus says that Orton needs to stop being so damn proud and just accept the help that is being offered to him. Sheamus said that together they could take The Shield down, if only he would trust Sheamus. Orton looked Sheamus dead in his eyes before walking away without saying a word. Almost like he saw a ghost I guess. See what I did there? Because he’s pale? I need another drink. Analysis: It’s a very interesting scenario between Orton and Sheamus. Both men seem to be showing heelish tendencies from time to time, which make me think one of them will turn. I’m just not sure who. I’m interested in where this is leading, which is always good. The bout was pretty open, with Ziggler getting close on many occasions to picking up a win. Ziggler is so talented, it’s clear he is a Main Event talent. But once again he came out on the losing end, tapping out to the Cross Arm Breaker. I understand Del Rio needed the win going into his match with Big Show for the title on Smackdown, but Ziggler really needs a big win, and soon. Winner: Alberto Del Rio (B)</div></div></blockquote> Del Rio celebrated his victory post match, but was attacked from behind by World Heavyweight Champion The Big Show, who levelled him with a Knockout Punch. I always mark out for that move, I’m not gonna lie. Show wasn’t done, as he headed to the outside and cleared the announce table. He then dragged Del Rio’s lifeless body outside, grabbed him around the throat and drilled him through the announce table with the Choke Slam. The crowd loved that spot. So much so that they began chanting “One more time”. I concur. This was a good way to hype the upcoming title match on Smackdown. I’m assuming it will become a No DQ match of some form. Either way, I do hope this is the end of it. (B+) Hey, guess what folks? It’s THE ROCK.......via satellite. Gotta agree with Lance Logan on this one, if he is going to be in the Main Event of the Royal Rumble, he really needs to be there in person. Anyway, it’s was the typical Rocky promo, complete with clichés, catchphrases and wearing sunglasses indoors. What a rebel! The main point he was trying to get across was that come Royal Rumble, CM Punk would be looking up at the lights, and his 400+ day WWE Title reign would be over. And I quote “CM Punk, in three weeks, the Rock is gonna slap every one of them god awful tattoo’s off your monkey ass and walk out the NEW WWE Champion. If ya’ SMELLLLLLLLL what The Rock........is Cooking”. Analysis: The Rock always delivers when it comes to promos, but I really felt it would have been better had he have been live in the middle of the ring. But it was good for what it was. You made it to Monday Night Raw. Unfortunately, you got the crap beaten out of you by Antonio Cesaro. Man, I love Cesaro. I think that’s the third time in one article I’ve proclaimed my love for another man. It’s not what you think. Honest. I’d love to see Riley more often in a more prominent role, but this match served its purpose; to show just what a dominant force Cesaro is. The United States Champion earns the victory, laying Riley out with The Neutralizer. Winner: Antonio Cesaro (C-)</div></div></blockquote> Cesaro wanted to send a message to his Royal Rumble opponent The Miz, and began beating down Alex Riley. That is until The Miz came sprinting down the aisle. He came to play, apparently. Good for him. Miz began trading blows with Cesaro before sending him packing to the outside. The crowd were behind The Miz, which is a surprise considering he gets little or no reaction in most places. Miz helped Riley to his feet, who looked a little puzzled that his former mentor AND rival was helping him out. Or maybe he was just puzzled that he was wrestling on Raw. (B) We next see CM Punk and Heyman pacing down the corridors of the arena, Punk looking clearly nervous. They are stopped in their tracks by Matt Striker, who wants to get Punks comments on Ryback as well as what The Rock had to say earlier. But it was Heyman who stepped in and said that CM Punk will do all of his talking inside of the ring. And as for The Rock, Heyman suggested that if “Dwayne” was willing to grow a back bone, get off his couch in Miami and step foot in the ring with CM Punk face to face, Punk would have no problem in proving to The Rock why Punk is the Best in the World. Punk then shoved Striker to the ground. Striker must really love the business, because I can’t remember the last time he conducted an interview without somebody degrading him in some form or fashion. (B-) As Punk and Heyman continued their way through the arena, they were confronted by none other than John Cena. Punk and Cena had an intense stare down before Cena said he will be watching closely tonight, because he and Punk had some unfinished business. He then wished Punk luck tonight. Punk got right up in Cena’s face and told him luck is for losers before walking away. Heyman was close behind, grinning like a Cheshire cat. Did I mention that I love that man? But who cares when the match is as good as this one. Both teams put in a tremendous effort. And judging by what we saw, I would LOVE to see a Rey Mysterio/Daniel Bryan feud in the future. They seem to complement each other so well. I’ve even become a fan of Kane once again, which says a lot since I have been critical of him in the past. Overall a damn good match, with Bryan picking up the submission win on Sin Cara with the No Lock. Winners: Team Hell No (B)</div></div></blockquote> Bryan and Kane celebrate their win in the ring, the crowd firmly behind them. But up on the stage were Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes. Nothing was said, but the two sarcastically applauded the Tag Team Champions as Bryan and Kane looked on. I’m actually quite looking forward to their match at the Royal Rumble. I think it’s only a matter of time before Kane and Bryan drop the straps, but I’m not sure if Rhodes Scholars will be the ones to take them. Only time will tell. It wasn’t great, but it was good. I think the TLC stipulation hid some of Ryback’s flaws. One thing I will say is he knows how to swing a ladder. I thought he took Punks head off at one point. Punk did a great job of acting like the cowardly heel, trying to get away from the brute known as Ryback. And, as always, Heyman did his job to perfection. At around the 15 minute mark it actually looked like Ryback may have the match won, but he was halted by the emergence of The Shield, who put a beat down on Ryback on the outside. In an impressive spot, they hit the Three Man Power Bomb onto the steel steps, which hurt me to watch. Punk took the advantage and scaled the ladder, retrieving the belt and retaining his title. Winner and STILL WWE Champion: CM Punk(C+)</div></div></blockquote> The Shield made their way back through the crowd as officials tended to Ryback. That bump on the stairs looked vicious, and Ryback looks hurt. Not sure if it’s a legit injury or not, but he looks in pain. Top marks to him for taking the bump. But the crowd were suddenly drawn to the ring, and they were going absolutely nuts, because as Punk was stood in the ring, none other than THE ROCK climbed the security wall and slid in the ring. Punk turned around just in time to get planted with a Rock Bottom. The crowd went absolutely crazy as The Rock grabbed the title and posed above the prone body of CM Punk. Heyman’s shock was evident as Raw went off the air. Analysis: WOW. Now THAT was a surprise. I was almost disappointed when I saw Rock’s interview via satellite, and was sure he wouldn’t be there. The crowd reaction was one of the loudest I’ve heard in quite some time. It was a hot way to close the show, and I am looking forward to where they are headed with these two. Their match at Royal Rumble should be a hell of a contest. (B+) Other Notes (Sent in from Darren Watts) In the Pre Show Dark Matches, the team of Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel (now going by the name of Lethal Dosage) defeated Primo and Epico (C+) and Kofi Kingston defeated Corey Graves ©. In the Post Show Dark Match, John Cena, R-Truth and Rey Mysterio defeated The Shield (C-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36267" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">Lincoln’s Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this edition of Raw. A lot of solid in ring action, as well as good segments that furthered storylines. I really wish they would do more with Dolph Ziggler. You can almost see it in his eyes just how frustrated he is. He is the holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase. He has a guaranteed title shot. He should be being used a hell of a lot better. I also wish they would do something about the Diva’s Division. It’s laughable really. Other than that, a solid episode of Raw. I have high hopes going into the Rumble in three weeks. (Show Rating: B)</div></div></blockquote> Well, that was fun. I guess. Happy New Year folks, and welcome to the first Main Event Roundup of 2013, my quick review of the weeks Main Event Show. I'm actually a big fan of Main Event, it's a great platform for guys to either hone their skills or at least get a little air time. So let's take a look at this weeks Main Event.

- 3MB's Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal picked up a win over The Usos. This was a fun little match actually. I'm a big Usos fan myself, and I would love to see them challenging for gold in the near future, but they really need to be built up more. As for 3MB.....yeah. I like Slater, and I think McIntyre should at LEAST be going for Intercontinental or US gold. Jinder is hit and miss for me. Either way, the 3MB shtick has ran it's course I feel. (D+)

-Shield Member Seth Rollins earned a victory over resident jobber Zack Ryder. This was fun. The crowd were into it. And Ryder was OVER. People still remember. As much as you want to job Ryder out, the fans still react to him. Push him. And Rollins, well, he is a future World Champion. In fact I'll put it out there now; Seth Rollins win be a World Champion before Dean Ambrose. There's something about him. Anyway, this was a good little match with Rollins picking up the win with The Blackout. (C+)

-In the Main Event, Sheamus Brogue Kicked his way to victory over Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett. These two have such good chemistry together, they always produce in the ring. I'm surprised they have never had an extended feud together as I think their matches would be excellent. Much like this one was. I would like to see Barrett win more, however. As a title holder, you really need to be picking up more victories. (B-)

Also on Main Event...

*The Miz gave a basic backstage promo hyping his feud with Antonio Cesaro, stating that he WILL become the next US Champion. I sure hope not...(B-)

*There was yet another ominous video from The Shield, basically telling Ryback that if he is that intent on hunting them down, they aren't too hard to find. Ambrose was gold as always. (C+)

*There was a backstage brawl between Primo, Epico and the newly dubbed Lethal Dosage (Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel). No idea what the brawl was about but hopefully we will find out more in the coming weeks. Any time they use Tyson Kidd is a good thing. ©

*The announcers hyped the Alberto Del Rio/Big Show World Heavyweight Championship match on Smackdown, and they confirmed it would be a No Disqualification Match. Seems odd they would announce it on a show that barely anybody watches, but there you go. Should be good. ( B- )

*We got a great video package hyping the CM Punk/Rock feud. WWE always deliver when it comes to their video packages, and this was no different. Still buzzing from the ending of Raw, was caught totally off guard with that one. Looking forward to where we are headed. (B+)

Hope you have all had a great start to the New Year. Speaking of great starts, it seems WWE started the year with a bang this past Monday on Raw. Can they keep that momentum going into this Friday Night's Smackdown? Let's take a look at the line up. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36267" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">The Main Event of the evening see's World Heavyweight Champion The Big Show defend his title in a No Disqualification Match against the challenger Alberto Del Rio. The two have been battling back and forth for the last couple of months, and I am assuming this will be the blow off here. At least I'm hoping so. Either way, I think the No DQ rule should add a little drama to the contest. I think they should be able to deliver here. Also on Smackdown, following the antics on Raw, The Miz will team with his former protégé Alex Riley to face the team of Antonio Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler. Really? Ziggler? It seems he has just been thrown in this match because they have nothing better for him to do. It's such a shame. Also interesting to see Miz and Riley joining forces again considering Riley hasn't been featured on Raw or Smackdown in over a year. Not sure where it's headed but it has me intrigued. Plus, Wade Barrett will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Kofi Kingston. Their little parking lot brawl this past Monday on Raw really hooked me, and I'm interested to see exactly where they go with this. These two have had some good matches over the course of 2012, and I'm guessing this will be no different.</div></div></blockquote> Also: - There are rumblings within WWE that both CM Punk AND Paul Heyman will be at Smackdown this week. It's not often that the TOP stars of Raw turn up on Smackdown (sorry, Randy), but they always seem to do this on the road to Wrestlemania. I definitely approve. - Look for the Sheamus/Randy Orton saga to continue. I like where this is going for the simple fact that I have NO idea where it is going. It's intriguing. One of them HAS to turn heel, there's no doubt. But I really don't know who. The fact that Sheamus and Regal have been seen together on recent shows suggest that maybe they will turn on Orton at some point. Time will tell. - AJ Lee will also be in action when she takes on Kaitlyn. Another randomly thrown together Diva's match. Hooray! I guess at least these two have a history they can play off. After the hot finish from Raw this past Monday, I’m genuinely excited for the next few months on the road to Wrestlemania. Especially looking forward to tonight’s Main Event. So let’s not waste any more time and get straight into the action. <hr> - In the evenings Dark Matches, Ted DiBiase was defeated by Kassius Ohno following a Cyclone Kill Kick. Also The Usos defeated Curt Hawkins and Trent Baretta (The Forgotten) following a Snuka Splash by Jimmy Uso. We begin the show with Ryback stomping towards the ring, clearly upset over his defeat on Monday Night Raw. Ryback grabs a mic and states that Raw should have been the biggest night of his life; it should have been the night he cemented his legacy. But he was screwed out of his moment, screwed out of his dream. He demands that The Shield come to the ring and TRY to take Ryback out once and for all. But he was surprised that it was not The Shield, but PAUL HEYMAN, who showed up on the entrance way. Heyman said that on Monday night, the better man won. It’s that simple. But he said there were a lot of positives that came out of his match with Punk. And the biggest positive is that he caught the attention of Paul Heyman. Heyman said he could use a man like Ryback; somebody so focused, so ruthless, so dangerous and so hell bent on being the top dog, no matter the price. He reminds Heyman of a guy by the name of Brock Lesnar. And much like Lesnar, Heyman can mould Ryback into a wrecking machine. All he has to do is take that step and stand side by side with Heyman. Ryback laughed at Heyman and said Heyman is lucky he hasn’t ripped his head off his shoulders. He was screwed on Monday and he says if The Shield is too afraid to face him, maybe he should take out his frustration on Heyman. The crowd popped for that. But before Ryback could do anything, he was blindsided by WWE Champion CM Punk, who drove a steel chair into the leg of Ryback. Punk rained down with chair shot after chair shot before laying the chair on Ryback’s chest and, in a typically awesome Punk moment, delivered a People’s Elbow onto Ryback. Punk then celebrated with his title in hand as he made his way to the back with an ecstatic Paul Heyman, leaving Ryback incensed in the ring. Tommy’s View: This was a great opening to Smackdown, and it’s always good to see Punk and Heyman on both shows. I’m not entirely sure why they would set their sights on Ryback considering that after Punks win on Raw, they really have no issue with each other anymore. However this was a good opening, with Heyman as always shining. The finish came when both men began to brawl around ringside, leading the official to count both men out. The bell rang, but that didn’t stop the two of them from tearing chunks out of each other. Decision: Double Count Out (C+)</div></div></blockquote> Following the match, the two continued to brawl, launching each other into anything and everything around ringside, until finally officials came down to calm the situation down. Tommy’s View: I’m surprisingly enjoying the Barrett/Kingston conflict at the moment. I have always been a fan of Barrett, and I think a World Title run isn’t out of the question. But for now he is doing a fine job as Intercontinental Champion. (B+) Next up we head backstage, where Matt Striker catches up with CM Punk and Paul Heyman, who are heading towards their car to leave the arena. Striker asks Punk why exactly he attacked Ryback earlier this evening. Punk just laughed and told Heyman to handle it as he stepped into the car. Heyman then stated that what happened tonight is just a small sample of what The Rock will receive at the Royal Rumble in Miami. Heyman states that The Rock opened the floodgates on Monday night, and tonight Punk fired the first shot at The Rock. In Heymans words, “The Rock wanted to make a statement Monday night? Congratulations, Dwayne. But make no mistake about it, you have picked a fight that you cannot possibly win. Smell THAT”. Tommy’s View: Another stellar job by Heyman in hyping Punk’s match with The Rock at the Rumble. One of the best managers of all time? I think so. (B) We then head into the locker room, where Alex Riley is getting prepared for his tag team match later in the show. He is then confronted by his partner The Miz. Miz says that a lot of things have changed since he and Riley had their little rift, and he wants to be the bigger man, extend his hand and apologise for what he did to him in the past. Riley stepped up and got in Miz’s face and gave it to him straight. He let Miz know that he doesn’t forget or forgive so easily, but he is willing to put whatever problems aside for tonight. But he stated that doesn’t mean he trusts him, and it certainly doesn’t mean he likes him. Riley then left as Miz contemplated what was said. Tommy’s View: I have always been an Alex Riley fan. I’m hoping that they run with this little push. His promo here was good, and he did a great job with an established star like The Miz. I think a run as a Tag Team with Miz could do wonders for BOTH men. Whether that is the direction they go is anyone’s guess. As Peter Lincoln stated in his Raw Report, the Divas Division really needs a shot in the arm because at this moment in time, it doesn’t have much going for it. I expected better from two of the better women on the roster, but it wasn’t nothing out of the ordinary. AJ picked up the win with a pretty impressive submission move she called the Black Widow. Winner: AJ Lee (D-)</div></div></blockquote> AJ celebrated her victory after the match, and as Kaitlyn got to her knees AJ delivered a sick Super Kick to the side of her head, adding insult to injury. AJ wanted to inflict more damage, but she was hauled off by Langston who carried her to the back. Is this a sign of them building the Divas up somewhat? Let’s hope so. (D+) We get the usual Raw Rebound video package here, highlighting the TLC Match from Raw between CM Punk and Ryback, as well as the surprise appearance of The Rock, who delivered a Rock Bottom to Punk following the match. (B+) We then get a second video package which opened with the statement “The following has been paid for by 3MB”. I feel I’ve heard something similar before. Anyway, we get a short video here of 3MB roaming the streets of New York, looking for 3MB fans. Most people look at them with disdain, having no idea who they are. Heath asks one guy who his favourite band is. When he replies with “Mötley Crüe”, McIntyre pushes the guy into a hotdog stand. The video concludes with Mahal clearly stuffing money into a homeless guys hand before Heath asks who his favourite band is. The guy replies with “3MB” and Slater lets rip with a “YEAH, BABY” before they all (including the homeless guy) begin playing the air guitar. Tommy’s View: That was.....surprisingly entertaining. Was it ridiculous? Absolutely. But it was fun, it was entertaining, and it at least puts these guys to use. I could actually see these three eventually turning face at some point. Miz and Riley have pretty decent chemistry as a team, but the match itself was kinda flat. The end came when Miz ducked a boot by Cesaro, which ended up inadvertently nailing Ziggler. This gave Miz the opportunity to hit the Skull Crushing Finale to seal the victory. Winners: Alex Riley & The Miz ©</div></div></blockquote> The ring cleared, leaving Ziggler on the outside, who was incensed at what just occurred. Ziggler grabbed a mic and climbed the ring. In one of his best segments in years, Ziggler cut a scathing promo. <div style="text-align:center;">“You know, I thought that winning this blue briefcase actually meant something. I thought winning this Money in the Bank contract earned me something. Sure, it earned me a title shot. But I thought, I HOPED, that it might just earn me just the smallest amount of respect around here. I thought the suits in the back might finally see what they have in Dolph Ziggler. But it seems Vince McMahon, Triple H and all the other corporate jack offs in the back wouldn’t know talent if it kicked them in the nuts. I am the future of this industry, and what do I get? I get thrown in a tag team match as a damn afterthought? That is bull****, and they know it. Week after week, month after month, year after year I tow the company line, I do what is asked of me and still it isn’t good enough. Maybe if Vince spent more time watching his product and less time throwing money away so his wife can lose another election, this company might not have to rely on John Cena to carry the load as the man around here, maybe he could build new stars for the future. Or maybe he could just try his hand at opening his own football league. But I guess none of that matters anyway, because whatever decisions he makes will get changed the second his Son-In-Law gets his hands on the cheque book. ...”</div> The tirade went on until Road Agents Michael Hayes, Pat Patterson and Road Dogg entered the ring and urged him to leave. Dolph dropped the mic and got into a shoving contest with Road Dogg, until AJ Lee and Big E. Langston headed to the ring and convinced Ziggler to head to the back. Tommy’s View: FINALLY! Finally it seems we are getting somewhere. I did find it strange that Ziggler was thrown into this match, but it now makes perfect sense. This promo was very reminiscent of CM Punk’s infamous “Pipe Bomb” back in 2011. And it was quite possibly one of Ziggler’s best promos. The anger, the frustration, everything that has clearly been building up the last 6 months was let out in this promo, and it worked. I think it would have been better to have done it with more eyes watching on Raw, but still I can’t wait to see where Ziggler takes this. (B) We now get the usual Shield backstage promo, with the three bragging about their attack on Ryback on Raw, costing him the WWE Championship. The three give their usual speech, in which they state that at the Royal Rumble, The Shield will be standing tall, because with the three man advantage, nothing will stop one of them from earning a title shot on the grandest stage of all; Wrestlemania. But they said there is a long way to go until then, so the WWE locker room has been put on notice and that anytime, anywhere, justice will be served. (C+) Back in the ring we are joined by Rhodes Scholars, who both hold microphones in their hands. Sandow states that many in the audience, many watching at home, even many in the back, feel that Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow have little to no chance of taking the Tag Team Championships at the Royal Rumble. But they are here tonight to prove that they are not only more than capable of becoming champions, but that they are the better team. With that said, Rhodes makes a challenge for Team Hell No to come to the ring face to face and take the beating that they deserve. It took a few seconds, but eventually the fire rose from the stage, and through hellfire and brimstone walked....an extremely obese man with a Kane mask on. And on his shoulders sat a midget with a ridiculously long beard. Sandow and Rhodes lost it in the ring, laughing uncontrollably as the two imposters stepped into the ring. The midget Bryan was held back by the imposter Kane as he swung aimlessly at Rhodes and Sandown. Rhodes let “Kane” know that his chances of walking away at Royal Rumble as Tag Team Champion were extremely “slim”. And Sandown said that as always, “Bryan” would come up “short” at the Rumble. But the fun and games soon came to an end when the REAL Team Hell No stormed the ring and cleaned house. Bryan was going nuts and he beat on both men. Even Kane was trying to hold him back as he went wild. Eventually officials rushed to ringside to defuse the situation. The crowd popped huge when Randy Orton headed to the ring; his match with Cody Rhodes is next! Tommy’s View: This segment was kinda hit and miss for me. I don’t think it was particularly bad, but I think this kind of comedy skit is beneath Sandow and Rhodes. The crowd were hot for Bryan, and he really did shine in this segment. His intensity is off the charts at times. I really do hope he gets pushed as a singles competitor at some point. Rhodes looked strong in this, holding his own against the more experienced Orton. And in the end that experience was the deciding factor, with Orton picking up the win at the 11 minute mark with an RKO. Winner: Randy Orton (B-)</div></div></blockquote> Orton had precisely zero time to celebrate his victory, as he was soon surrounded by Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. The three surrounded the ring, and before long Orton was fighting the three men off, but the numbers were simply too much for “The Viper”. Help was on hand however, when Sheamus rushed the ring to lend a hand. The two did well to fend off the trio, but once again the numbers were too great for them. But the field was eventually evened up when Ryback stormed to the ring and cleaned house almost single handed, sending The Shield over the ropes and retreating into the crowd. The crowd were going nuts as Ryback began a “Feed me more” chant. Orton however was not so thrilled, and he walked away, leaving the other two to celebrate. As Orton headed to the back, he was surprised to see Sheamus’ good friend William Regal applauding the men in the ring. Orton looked at him coldly before heading to the back. Tommy’s View: This was a good way to build the story that is brewing with Sheamus and Orton. Orton walking out made me think that maybe he will be turning heel in the near future, but once again Regal’s presence soon changed my mind on that one. It’s an intriguing story. It also built the Ryback/Shield feud that has been raging for the last few months. I have a feeling that something will happen in the Rumble match between the four that could possibly build to a big blow off match at Wrestlemania. But there is a long way to go until then. (B+) Following the commercial break, Michael Cole and JBL announce that this Monday Night on the 20th Anniversary Raw, Vickie Guerrero has made the match that will see Ryback, Sheamus and Randy Orton join forces to take on The Shield. Good call I say. I have become a huge fan of The Shield, and their Tag matches really are something special. Should be fun. Del Rio made good use of the No DQ rule, using anything he could get his hands on to weaken the arm of the champ, trying to set him up for the Cross Arm Breaker. But Show’s size and strength came into play, manhandling Del Rio. The match almost came to an end when Show delivered a thunderous Chokeslam through a table set up in the ring, but somehow Del Rio managed to get his shoulder up. The finish came when Ricardo Rodriguez interjected himself into the match, jumping on Show’s back. Big Show tossed Ricardo away with ease before knocking him out cold. Alberto checked on his good friend before seeing red and nailing Show with lefts and rights, his anger coming to the forefront. Show managed to push Alberto away before delivering a devastating Knock Out Punch from nowhere to secure the victory and retain his World Heavyweight Championship. Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: The Big Show (C+)</div></div></blockquote> The show (no pun intended) came to a close with Big Show standing tall, his World Heavyweight Championship raised high in the air as doctors checked on both Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez. (B-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36267" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">Tommy’s Final Thoughts: I enjoyed this edition of Smackdown. A lot of storyline development, and even a decent skit from 3MB, which is good to see. I think this may have been the final match in the Big Show/Del Rio saga, and it was a decent way to end it. The question is where do both men go from here? The Dolph Ziggler promo following his match was probably some of the best work he has done in WWE. It came from the heart, and the fans seemed to be hanging on his every word. They knew it was something different. I hope this is a turning point in Ziggler’s career. And I’m very intrigued to see where things go with Sheamus and Randy Orton. As I said before, the addition of William Regal makes me lean towards a Sheamus heel turn, but the great thing about this feud is you really can’t tell which way it’s going to go. And little needs to be said about Punk and Heyman, who were gold as always. Overall a pretty good Smackdown, and hopefully an omen for the future. Show Rating: B</div></div></blockquote> So, the first Smackdown of the New Year is done and dusted. The Raw 20th Anniversary will be live this Monday Night, reviewed as always by Peter Lincoln.
