Actually, I think you got it Dan. The write-up lists Dastardly as the winner but the match recap seems that Tombstone won...

Boo Smithson, we know that Vance is coming for the belt, but who is your biggest threat outside of him for the King of the Ring?

Dex had never seen anyone get quite as drunk as Vance as and remain standing, let alone manage something resembling an actual speech. Truly, working for KCCW was an education

“Better n’ ruddy McMinny…McManna…Aussie Pro prat”

Mind you, he had a reason to celebrate. Two months in and Kingdom Class was already on the rise- Dex liked to think he was responsible in some way but was quite willing to admit that the company’s growth owed rather more to Boo and Vance than to anything special he’d done.

“Better n’ that bloke Day too…what day ish’ee anyway? Sunday? Monday? No bloody sense, that’sh ‘im…”

It was also interesting seeing just how much some of the guys could drink. Eraser and J.G. in particular seemed dead set on murdering their livers, and had apparently drawn Matty Wills into some sort of Tri-Nations drinking game involving stuffed animals and foster's.

“An’ ash for the Comedian…he’sh a mmmm, ammm…really shtoopid”

Boo, meanwhile, had commandeered the sound system and was blasting out the Bee Gees back catalogue with a glee that bordered on the disturbing.

“Halloweenie though, he’sh goot…gorra lot’ve ‘ish guys ‘ere, so he’sh doing shumting righ’…”

As Vance fell off the table he was standing on and promptly fell asleep, Dex decided he’d go over plans for the next show in the morning.

After he’d drawn something suitably comedic on the Boss’s face, obviously…

Show should be going up tomorrow, so here's the fan questions. First, this one from Midnightnick:

Question for Pat Rigsby: "Do you blame Eraser for your loss against The Knights Temple? Or are they just that good a team?"

Pat Rigsby: No two ways about it, that clown Eraser cost me the Tag Team Titles. No other way a pair of Kiwi Morons could take me down.

Second, we've got this one from Briskout:

For John Gordon: Can we expect the appearance of your evil counterpart, Mirror Universe John Gordon?

John Gordon: Mirror Universe? What Mirror Universe? I don't know what you're talking about? http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/shifty_zps858ddfb8.gif

Next up, this one from BigJay2003:

For Boo Smithson: we know that Vance is coming for the belt, but who is your biggest threat outside of him for the King of the Ring?

Boo Smithson: It's tough to say, there's so much great competition in KCCW. John Gordon's a heck of a competitor and real challenge, and with The Duo coming in you have to recognise them as great challengers.

Finally, this one comes from Tiberious4:

For Andre Boone & Blair Brunzell: "As ZEN Dojo graduates, how does it feel to be not only be wrestling, but also winning championships in a more traditional wrestling company like KCCW?"

Andre Boone: It feels great. The more graduates go out and win titles away from home the more the Dojo is validated as one of the finest training grounds in wrestling. Plus, of course, there's always the personal factor in winning title belts- me and Blair haven't been in wrestling that long, so any time we win a match feels good, and when it's for something as prestigious as a title....well, that's something else.

Blair Brunzell: Halloween Knight's going to kill us, though.

Andre Boone: That's true. Mind you, he's wanted to do that for years so it's not a big change.

The Show

“It’s Friday Night and we’re coming to you from a Laird Lounge where the atmosphere is hotter than hell! I’m Dale Young, joined as always by KCCW Colour Analyst Ross Stewart and our special guest commentator Lillian O’Donahue!”

“It’s a pleasure to be joining you and Ross again, Dale, and I’ve got to say that there’s one match on this card that’s got me excited like no other- our main event, which sees KCCW’s King of the Ring Boo Smithson teaming up with ‘The Event’ Tombstone against Vance ‘The Boss’ Sturt and John Gordon!”

“John Gordon lost out on the chance to become King of the Ring title at Bohemian Rhapsody, and he hasn’t made any secret of his mission to one day win that title, whilst Vance is widely seen as the greatest threat to Boo in this company. On the other side of the ring, Tombstone’s looking to avenge a loss to Vance from two months ago, whilst Boo is probably the best pure wrestler in Australia- he’ll be looking to use that over his opponents.”

“It’s going to be a heck of a match folks, ain’t no doubt about it! For now, though, it’s time for the first stage of KCCW’s Anzac Tourney, so let’s go down to the ring and get this show underway!”

This was a quick time-filler angle as our key promo men are otherwise occupied at the moment- it got a decent reaction, for our size.

Rating: E

*

Pat Rigsby vs. Matty Wills

We kicked the wrestling off with a decent bout, albeit one that’ll probably never go down as a classic bout. Matty’s one of our more promising young workers, and for all I wasn’t convinced when we first brought him in his first couple of matches have revealed a promising young worker with every chance of becoming a good midcard talent in a few months. As for Pat, he’s okay but pretty dull in the ring and could do to improve his offence if he wants to really make something of himself. Fortunately, he’s actually pretty young (he’s only 25, despite having been around for what feels like years) and looks like one of our hottest prospects so the signs are good. In any case, he’s got seniority over Matty and took the win here after a fairly typical rugged brawl, booting Wills in the gut and nailing the Stuff Piledriver (jumping piledriver).

Winner: Pat Rigsby Match Rating: E+

*

It’s hype time, as Del and Vance are on hand to talk about the main event

“Tombstone, John Gordon, although you’re participants tonight, and truly dangerous men in your own fields, your presence is entirely irrelevant to what will occur. Boo Smithson, last month you enjoyed the finest luck a man can possess when you beat Vance Sturt, and that luck will not- cannot- be repeated tonight. There is no need for hyperbole or deception, simply a declaration of fact: Vance Sturt is simply too powerful for you to triumph”

What do you get if you put a good talker and a menacing thug together? A dang fine promo, that’s what.

Rating: D+

*

Frankie Robertson vs. Damian Dastardly

This was another decent match, and could’ve been better but for Damian having an off-night. Make no mistake, Dastardly’s a very promising young worker with a lot of potential, but he’s not yet at the point where can work around an off-night and still deliver to the same standard as usual. Frankie, meanwhile, is a solid hand who can be relied upon to work hard and usually deliver a solid match but he’s not capable of carrying a struggling worker to a good match. On the plus side his fiery brawling matched up well with Damian’s all-round offence and general cockiness; we went with a story where Damian was able to out-manoeuvre Frankie and get the advantage, but constantly lost it due to his tendency to spend more time taunting Frankie than fighting him, giving the irrepressible Robertson the chance to go straight back to work pummelling him. Eventually Frankie nailed a swaggering Damian with a Spinning Back First that just about knocked the young New Zealander inside out, making the pinfall a rather academic affair.

Winner: Frankie Robertson Match Rating: E+

*

Eraser vs. Michel Bernard

Like Frankie, Michel’s one of the new signings we brought in as we expanded to fill our roster out. He’s largely a case of potential over ability, and I'm not opposed to offloading him if something better comes along (especially as he’s got a bit of an attitude on him), but there’s no denying that he’s a good fit for us, and his fundamentals in particular are pretty solid. As for Eraser, he’s a solid hand who rarely lets us down, and whilst I’d really appreciate some more improvement from him he’s got enough in terms of offence and fundamentals to justify his role as part of the backbone of our roster. As for story, this one was a classic brawling vs. technique story, with Michel showing off his knack for unusual holds and Eraser responding with the time-honoured tactic of punching his opponent in the head repeatedly. In the end head-punching won out over technical wrestling, and Eraser took the victory with the Rub-Out.

Winner: Eraser Match Rating: E+

*

Whirlwind Lee Wilkes vs. Dexter Mattell

This was the best of the ANZAC tourney matches, but that was never really in doubt. Lee’s probably our strongest all-round worker, although I’d like to see him work on his fundamentals a bit so that we’ve got a proper third choice for putting matches together; right now we’re relying on Vance and Boo to put our matches together and I’d like to have more options on that front. As for me, I'm a pretty solid worker, for a guy in his second year of wrestling, and whilst I wouldn't want to try and carry anyone in the ring up against someone with Lee’s quality I can step it up and deliver something a bit out of the ordinary. As for story, we built this around Lee’s high-speed brawling and my mat-based technical work- true, Lee’s just as good technically as I am, but he’s more mat work and chain wrestling without my submissions, and given that I'm a couple of inches taller and ten pounds heavier than him I thought playing up his brawling would make for an interesting variant on our usual matches. Wilkes got the win here, taking me down with his new finisher, Reap the Whirlwind (a flying clothesline).

Winner: Whirlwind Lee Wilkes Match Rating: D-

*

The Knights Temple vs. The Duo

This was a good match, but I’d hoped for a little better given that these are our two most experienced teams. Long-term we’re working towards making the tag team titles a potential main event attraction, but for that to happen we need the Knights to improve a bit more, or to move the titles onto a stronger team. That’s partially why we brought The Duo in- they're one of the best tag teams in Australia at the moment, and well within our price range- but I'd rather give the Knights a chance to develop their fundamentals a bit first. Of course, the best way to get them improving is to match them up with teams like Rusty and Donovan, which brings us rather neatly back to this match. Story-wise we played up the Duo’s size and experience edge, as they dominated the match with rapid-fire tags and mandhandling, often forcing their opponent onto the floor where they could dominate with superior technique. In the end, though, Blair was able to get a foot to the ropes (it’s worth pointing out that whilst he’s skinny as a rail Blair is over 6 foot and has ridiculously long legs) and when Rusty refused to break the hold Gene called for the DQ and awarded the match to the Knights.

Winners: The Knights Temple Match Rating: D-

*

Boo Smithson & Tombstone vs. John Gordon & Vance Sturt

This was a solid match, although it’s clear that half our main event isn’t as good as the other half. To be fair that’s to be expected- Vance or Boo have more experience than Tombstone and John put together- but it could be a problem down the line if JG and Tombstone don't show enough improvement. Vance and Boo are still young enough for talk of retirement to be fairly ludicrous, but you never know when they'll start to slow down or just price themselves out of our range (well, Vance obviously won't but it’s a real concern with Boo). That being said, the younger guys are already pretty solid talents, and just need a little development in key areas to match up with our top guys; who knows, that development might not even be urgently required, it could be years before either Vance or Boo start to decline.

As for story, this one pitched Boo and Tombstone’s technical mastery against Vance’s rugged brutality and John’s more speed-based combo of chain wrestling and brawling. Naturally enough the faces had the advantage early on, as the heels proved completely incapable of getting on and spent as much time arguing with each other as trying to beat the faces. Eventually, though, Delbert was able to pull them away from their mutual bickering long enough to get them focus on their foes, and John also brought out a bagful of powder that he used to blind Tombstone and allow Vance to drop him with a Mafia Kick to the back of the head, taking the young man out of the match. Boo fought on bravely, unleashing some of his legendary puro skills (well, legendary for Australia), but the numbers game went against him and when Vance nailed the Mafia Kick there was nobody there to break the pin.

Winners: Vance Sturt & John Gordon Match Rating: D+

Overall Rating: D+, an alright grade but this is still our weakest card yet.

Card for KCCW A Kind of Magic:

FOR THE KING OF THE RING TITLE

Boo Smithson © vs. Vance Sturt vs. John Gordon

No reason to take it off Boo yet. He is too good.

Tombstone vs. ZEN’s Massacre

I am a pretty big Tombstone fan, but this could go either way I think.

FOR THE KCCW TAG TEAM TITLES

The Knights Temple © vs. Partners in Crime

Champs retain again.

KCCW ANZAC TOURNEY- SECOND STAGE

Whirlwind Lee Wilkes vs. Pat Rigsby

Wilkes I often feel is underrated. Much better than Pat Rigsby for sure.

Eraser vs. Frankie Robertson

Wanna go with Eraser, but I think at this time Frankie gets it..

Wills & Bernard vs. The Duo

Tag Team with a real name any day.

Pat Rigsby vs. Whirlwind Lee Wilkes

We kicked things off in fine style tonight with a match that got the crowd as warmed up as you could hope for without putting Boo or Vance out there. A lot of that was down to Lee, who’s finally managed to adjust to our match lengths and could therefore really show off his variety on offence- in the past he’s run out of energy and been forced to rely on his brawling by the end, and whilst that’s not bad it’s never as impressive as when he busts out his technique and aerial work. Pat, meanwhile, remains the solid but resolutely unexceptional worker he probably always will be; he’s never the most exciting or talented worker in a match, but Rigsby’s incapable of delivering a truly poor match. Story-wise, this one was a fairly standard speed vs. power match, which ended with Lee dropkicking Pat into the corner and nailing the Whirlwind DDT to advance to the KCCW ANZAC title match.

Winner: Whirlwind Lee Wilkes Match Rating: D-

It’s promo time, as we head backstage to hear from Rusty Mills and Donovan Boon

“TONIGHT BABY!”

“That’s right Rusty! Tonight, KCCW, you got the best tag team going in the ring! You got Donovan Boon, you got Rusty Mills, you got The Duo! Michel Bernard, Matty Wills, I have to be honest, I have no idea who you are. Sure, maybe you’re great, but the truth is you’re just one step on the road to the promised land- The KCCW Tag Team Titles. So tonight, Wills, Bernard, you’re going down baby!”

“That’s right Donovan! Michel, Matty, it’s the end of the line for you babeh! OOOOOOHHH YEEAAAAAAHHHHH!”

The Duo’s trademark over-excited style translated across pretty well here, given that they don’t have Del’s name value.

The Duo vs. Wills & Bernard

Yeah, I think I’m going to find a replacement for Bernard. He’s alright but doesn’t do anything we can’t find somewhere else without the attitude, and his prospective team with Matty Wills is D.O.A thanks to poor chemistry. That’s really the key factor here; with Michel being a second face jobber the only real use for him was as Matty’s tag partner, and if that isn’t going to work there’s not a lot I can do with him. Admittedly this was a pretty good match, but that was largely due to Michel and Matty’s solid workrate and the general quality of The Duo. There’s no point denying it; Rusty and Donovan are almost certain to win the tag team titles within the next six months, they’re clearly our top tag team and two of our top stars as well. Up against a pair of jobbers like Wills & Bernard it’s no surprise they took the win here, finishing Wills with the Duo Drop (Wheelbarrow Facebuster/Double Knee Gutbuster Combo).

The Knights Temple vs. Partners in Crime

Remind to me to thank Boo Smithson; he’s recently taken Andre under his wing and put the knights through an intensive course on psychology 101, with the effect that Blair and Andre are now pretty solid in that area. Okay, they’re not ring generals or anything, but they get the hang of telling a story in the ring a lot more now, and that brings the best out of their team. Without being vain I also think it helped that me and Damian were their opponents; after all, we’re both pretty solid talents, and now that Blair and Andre have a better idea of ring psychology we don’t have to try and carry them through the match, which neither me nor Damian are really capable of. This one went to the Knights; me and Damian probably could make effective tag team champions one day, but that’s still some way in the future. Blair got the actual pin here- me and Damian had been working over Andre for the latter half of the match, but Del distracted me at a key moment (technically he no longer manages me but he’s still there at ringside so why not use him?) and Andre tagged his partner in. Brunzell was on fire, and it wasn’t long before he dropped Damian with the B-Sting, going for a quick pin whilst Boone took out me and Del with a plancha.

After the bell has rung the Knights are immediately blindsided by The Duo, who drop Blair with a wild chair swing to the back courtesy of Rusty Mills. Andre attempts to fight back but is dropped by another chair shot, this time courtesy of Donovan, and The Duo then add insult to injury by nailing Andre with a Duo Drop. The reaction to this was…okay, I guess, but not brilliant by any means.

Eraser vs. Frankie Robertson

This continued the generally solid form of the card, although that wasn't a huge surprise. Eraser, as I've said before, is a surprisingly capable brawler given his background with ZEN, and whilst he’s not all that consistent his energy and gimmick make up for it. As for Frankie, he’s an excellent counterbalance to Eraser, being less impressive on offence but with stronger fundamentals to make up for it. He’s also been partnered up with Rose Wills ever since her team with Matty didn't work out, and she added a lot to this match with her excitement and energy; the key to a tournament match like this is that it has to feel important, and Rose seemed so invested in the match that it gained an extra level of significance. Story-wise this one was a wild brawl that saw the action spill out to ringside and through the crowd before finding its way back into the ring, whereupon Eraser (who’d rather been struggling up to that point) promptly got the drop on Frankie with a snap elbow drop before setting up for the Rub-Out. Frankie avoided the move and nailed a picture-perfect lariat, but Eraser dodged his attempt at the backfist and nailed a shoulder jawbreaker before coming back with the Rub-Out to secure his spot in the finals.

Tombstone vs. Massacre

This one was a trifle disappointing; it wasn’t bad, but I’d hoped for more. Still, that’s to be expected when you look at Massacre- he’s solid but not great, and I probably could’ve found better to bring over from ZEN; his main virtue was that I was fairly certain he’d be willing to take the loss here. To be absolutely fair to Massacre he matched up well to Tombstone’s hard-hitting style, and if it was obvious that the Samoan was outclassed, well who cares anyway? As for Tombstone, he’s one of our strongest workers, but that’s proving to be kind of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, he can always be counted to deliver a solid match against anyone who can reliably tell a wristlock from a wrist-watch, but on the other hand there’s a lack of premiere opponents to help him develop his weaker areas such as his psychology or flying (though, granted, that one’s less essential).

Story-wise this one played Tombstone’s hard-hitting, quasi-MMA style off against Massacre’s more methodical pounding; it worked alright but you could tell that the big Samoan wasn’t used to working someone who could match up to him physically (he really isn’t, that’s not us booking it that way). In the end Tombstone got the win, reversing an attempted delayed vertical suplex into the Rear Naked Choke to secure a submission.

Boo Smithson vs. Vance Sturt vs. John Gordon

This one was as good as we’ve managed thus far, which was reassuring after Tombstone/Massacre underperformed. It also bodes well for John Gordon- okay, so with a couple of ring generals like Vance and Boo in the ring it’d be hard for him to really drag a match down, but the fact that he didn’t is still reassuring. Given a bit of improvement and a manager to handle his promo’s there’s no reason J.G. wouldn’t be a viable challenger for the title in a couple of years- certainly he’s got all the basic tools, and in all honesty his need for improvement is more about needing to match Boo and Vance rather than John not being good enough. Make no mistake, though, Vance and Boo are streets ahead of 90% of the roster (only Lee Wilkes and maybe The Duo come close), and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Fortunately enough Vance owns the company and Boo’s worth any amount of money so we ought to be able to keep hold of them for a good long while; otherwise I could see us struggling to maintain our momentum in the future.

Story-wise, this one repeated some of the beats from last month, with Vance and John flitting between teaming up to beat down the champion and arguing with each other over who got to get the fall. Naturally that led to John breaking Vance’s first attempt with a decidedly vicious boot to the head, at which point any attempts at working together were off. Of course, with both heels preoccupied fighting each other Boo was able to work his way into the match, and when Vance flattened John with a Mafia Kick he found that the champ was fired up and ready to kick @ss. Boo proceeded to unload on The Boss with a barrage of vicious puro strikes before going for a big running lariat. Vance was able to reverse that with a body press but Boo revealed his cunning feint, dropping out of the attempted Press Slam into the Crossface Chickenwing and sinking in the move deep enough that Vance was forced to tap out or risk serious injury.

Winner: Boo Smithson Match Rating: C-

Overall Rating: D+, with a slight improvement over last month but we’re still chasing February’s show

That last show marks the end of this phase of KCCW. The simple truth is that both booking the company and writing up shows has been more work than I can handle at the moment, and the game hasn't panned out the way I wanted it to. I'll be back at some point, but not for a while- I'm aware how many failed dynasties I've had for 2013, and I don't want to be one of those guys who starts a new thread every 20 minutes.
