[HYPE] The Return of the War - January 4th 2010 Real World TNA vs WWE

Recommended Posts

September 4th 1995 - a flashy young executive aggressively pushed and transformed the old WCW into a shadow of its former NWA self. The idea behind his vision was to shake off the dated, old school, tradition wrasslin' ethos surrounding the company. He witnessed firsthand the World Wrestling Federation blow the competition out of the water in the 1980s by being forward, by being flashy, by being glamorous and by being entertaining. Now that same Federation was living in the "Dark Age" - it hadn't recovered since losing Hulk Hogan and was slowly but surely slipping into mediocrity. He saw an opportunity; he saw a gap; he seized it and turned WCW from a station wagon into a NITROus powered Ferrari.

What ensued for almost 6 years was the best, most competitive sports entertainment ever seen. It was pure WAR.

Almost 9 years on and the build-up has begun. Dixie Carter has recruited a seasoned version of that same flashy young executive from 1995. His name? Eric Bischoff; and he has brought wrestling icon Hulk Hogan with him. Vince McMahon, the overlord of wrestling, who has dominated the business since winning that very same original war, has responded - Bret Hart will return for the first time in 12 years to televised WWE.The date is January 4th. War is about to begin. Choose your side, but plan it well - for history shows that war is not short term. You're in it for the long haul. It's on, brother.

The Mod will be set to start on the first Monday of January 2010, when the new Monday Night War began. I know this is one of the most sought after mods around and I have endeavored to make it as realistic as I can using what I've learned from Derek B's excellent guide and from playing Matt Shannon's Main Event, which I see as the slickest, best run Mod I've played.

I'll update this post every time there's a development with the mod. But at the moment it is currently in scaling stage - the companies have been scaled and the main players on TNA and WWE have been scaled (stats and popularity). I will be scaling myself; however, what people must understand is that this mod will primarily focus on WWE and TNA. I've watched TNA since 2007 and WWE since 1997 so I'm aware of what the stats should be like for those rosters. ROH et al from my perspective are primarily there to poach talent from. I realise that some people might want to play with ROH or PWG or CZW etc but I am simply not familiar enough with workers there to do a detailed job. The Mod I'm using as a base is TEW10's "Know Your Role 2010" by Jimmy Shakerz. I've pretty much, for TNA/WWE purposes used his Mod only to have the rosters in place. I haven't been able to find him here to seek permission but the mod will be rather unrecognizable by the end anyway, although his permission would be very good to have. I feel he's done a very good job re stats so for ROH and other indie promotions, the stats will stay as he has done them. If someone/some people are willing to take the Mod and do a job on the indie companies to edit them before release, I'd encourage it, I'd appreciate it and I'd credit it. If not, things will stay as they are currently.

What I Need:

I do need some help, namely the following things:

1) Pictures - currently, the picture file I'm using is one whose origin I don't know. I'm not sure where it's from but it's the massive one with some 8000 pictures. It starts off with 52 generic pictures (Generic 1-52) - I'm pretty sure it's Genadi's huge pic pack/NGO, but I could be totally wrong. If someone can verify whose this is I can seek permission to use it and provide credit. To this, I've added some of Fleisch's pics from his awesome RWC Mod to keep things modern. So one of two things can happen here - I can seek Fleisch's and the creator of the huge pic file's respective permissions to use their pics. I have already applied the correct ones to the TNA and WWE roster so they look realistic. Or secondly, if people are big on having the same backgrounds on their cuts, we can create a new picture file entirely if there are any volunteers. I'd rather opt for the former (assuming I can obtain permission) as it is quicker and speeds up the process.

2) Biographies- Jimmy Shakerz's mod has bios that all follow a similiar pattern as pasted below (height, weight, aliases etc). Again, I'm not sure of the best course of action here. My time is limited and there is absolutely no way I'm writing bios from scratch. I'm not sure how this process usually works so I'm open to advice/suggestions. I DO want to do proper bios - whether this means cutting/pasting from another mod with said mod maker's permission (unlikely as there aren't any other 2010 mods out there - there's little point cutting a Daniel Bryan biography for 2010 from when he was "Bryan Danielson" at Dragon Gate) or cutting and pasting from Wikipedia or people contributing (e.g. someone handles ROH bios, I handle TNA ones, someone else handles WWE ones etc) I don't mind. My concern is that inevitably what we'll end up with are full length bios for WWE/TNA/ROH but the Jimmy Shakerz bios for everyone else in the game which will look inconsistent and weird when the loading screen is showing bios. So perhaps the best move is, if I secure his permission, using Jimmy's bios. Anyway, here's an example of Jeff Hardy's:

Jeff Hardy

Birthday: August 31, 1977

Hometown: Cameron, North Carolina

Height: 6'2" - 215 lbs

Alias: Willow The Wisp(OMEGA)

Finishing Move: Swanton Bomb

3) Testing - in terms of testing how the game runs, if anyone is willing to try out a few weeks of playing time with WWE and TNA, that would be great, though I'll be doing this myself anyway to ensure it plays properly. I'll also be doing a 2 year fast forward to see how things pan out. But what I'd really like is for an experienced mod maker(s) to LOOK at it. He/she doesn't need to even play it but just check out things like stats (not so much re subjective things e.g. should Chris Jericho's psychology be 85, 90 or 95) but more proportionality (e.g. if Jericho's psychology is a 90+, then what's The Undertaker's, what's John Cena's and what's Ryan Reeve's and do they match up proportionately). I may THINK I've nailed it - but I'm no Genadi, I'm no Derek B, I'm no NWAvsWWF, I'm no Fleisch or Matt Shannon or whoever else is a modmaking beast. If one of those names can look at it, even play ONE SHOW with WWE/TNA and ensure all is bliss and criticise it to shreds if it isn't, I can make sure it's perfect. Additionally, if Derek B has the time to even look at the mod file's stats in the editor - that would be great.

Yey! i'm actually playing a March 2010 mod from TEW 10 that I converted. It's Jimmy Shakerz mod. I'm currently playing TNA, i found a ridiculous thing that every WWE RAW and SmackDown, they got awesome reviews. (B+ or higher). One thing, also ROH is having awesome reviews. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

This looks like it could be very interesting - I shall be downloading upon release. The fact you're using Matt Shannons mod as your inspiration bodes very well as I love his Main Event mod.

For the record, any pics from my mod are free for anyone to use so if you want to use them then go right ahead.

Oh, I'm also willing to test this mod out as long as you're cool with me starting the diary from it. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I figure that's a bit of a win/win situation.

Thanks for the support guys. Frootloop - of course you can make a diary, do as you wish.

Fleisch - thanks for the pics thing buddy. Would you be willing to, prior to release, have a quick run through of playing 1 or 2 shows yourself to see how it runs?

I hope this mod meets all of your expectations and one thing's for sure - I will not put it out unless and until the heavyweights give it the seal of approval.

I aim to get this done ASAP without rushing. As I said, stats wise and wrestler wise for WWE and TNA we are on a good course. However, as I said, we still have the problem and issue of biographies. What does everyone recommend?

Holy smokes, I'm blown away by the support for my mod. It was only my first mod, and I'm not even a veteran mod maker. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I will say from my own experiences playing it, I've been pleased with the results of running the WWF. Not every segment is an A*, and guys who should be ticked for personal habits can still pull out grades in the C+ to B- in angle segments, maybe even B, range. Of course, it helps when they have other more talented workers with them.

Back on topic, I will be looking out for this. 2010 is a great time to start because it's right before Nexus and about a year and half before CM Punk's Pipe Bomb promo. Gives you the opportunity to right some of the wrongs that have been done between then and now.

I actually think those Shakerz mod bios sound like a really cool idea

Ok, well I'm happy with them - actually one of the negatives of having full bios is that 2 years into the game they're completely redundant!

I guess this means that we're in a good situation - WWE and TNA are progressing nicely, the pictures are sorted, Teh_Showtime sounds like he can help with PWG and I can look into ROH.

I will be messaging a few people (who have volunteered already and some who haven't) maybe at the end of the week or end of next week as I may be going to Scotland for business on Sunday-Tuesday to test out a first raw version. I'll then apply people's recommendations/criticisms and tidy it up and then release.

So hopefully, if the constructive criticism isn't too heavy and easily applicable, we should be looking at, all things considered, release within 3 weeks i.e. before the end of the month. Depending on my testers' reactions, perhaps much, much sooner.

Hi all

By way of update - I've received some useful feedback from Fleisch, Teh Showtime and Froot Loop which I've taken on board and will be talking over with them privately. It will make the mod better and has certainly ironed out mistakes and I'd like to use this post to thank them greatly for that.

I completely revamped the popularity of the base mod and the general consensus is that, bar maybe nxt people, who are too low in overness, the mod's scaling and proportionality re popularity of workers and companies is on the money!

The issue that's holding up is stats of workers - there are several stats which are greatly warped of workers eg Davey Richards having high menace and too many excellent and great workers who shouldn't be in that bracket. This is mainly due to the stats that were in the original jimmy shakers mod.

On top of this, you have a psychology issue which il work on. All in all, this will probably be done end of next week. At this point il show the final version to Derek b and then we are good to go!

Hello Sir

No you have not missed a message. As I mentioned above, I took on board your feedback and Showtime's and Fleisch's - all useful stuff. I haven't had a chance to revert due to business but I'm taking time off on Thursday and Friday so will try and apply everything.

I pretty much agree with all of the feedback. Your's and Showtime's is more company feedback i.e. accuracies (e.g. the ECW stuff and Showtime's product info and PWG stuff). On top of that Fleisch and Showtime have feedback re certain worker stats, namely psychology. As I said, the psychology thing is something I will discuss with them in private from when I'm off on Thursday but I don't necessarily disagree with them. Changes will be made and Derek B will get the final look.

As for the pic pack - it's ready but I didn't send it to you 3 because it's too big and so for feedback purposes it's not necessary - I'm taking the view that if someone doesn't like the pics I've applied they have several options to change them persnally as the pack has tons of pics.
