1987: Bigger, Better, Badder!

The WWF train is running full speed ahead as it has transitioned from the Rock 'n' Wrestling Era into what many refer as a Golden Age for wrestling. In recent months, events once thought unthinkable have gone down, and have had positive effects so far: Roddy Piper turned babyface, mostly because the fans refused to boo him and chanted his name in appreciation for how he stood up for the business against Mr. T at WrestleMania 2. And Andre the Giant, one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time, has turned heel against Hulk Hogan, leading to an inevitable showdown between the two titans for superiority at WrestleMania III. For anyone worried about if Andre could pull off the heel turn, one should look no further than the record TV ratings the WWF brought to NBC for a recent Saturday Night's Main Event which featured a battle royal that included Hulk Hogan and the now heel Andre. The WWF is looking to become bigger, better and badder than ever before.

Meanwhile, Jim Crockett Promotions is trying to keep the NWA afloat, but some wonder how long the territory will be part of the NWA as the NWA World Heavyweight Title and NWA World Tag Team Titles are being defended at JCP shows so often, one wonders if a secret exclusive agreement is in place. The AWA is trying to stay relevant, and they have some good talent. But can they hold onto that talent, and can Verne Gagne make the changes necessary to keep his promotion going? And World Class has recently seceded from the NWA. Mike Von Erich is still holding on by a thread, and many wonder if his mental state is too fragile by this point. And can Kerry and Kevin Von Erich carry the promotion after so much talent defected with Ken Mantell to the UWF, which seems to be suffering from struggles of its own? And let's not forget about the rest of the world, as Japan, Mexico, Canada and the UK seem to be breeding the stars of tomorrow.

Seeing as that Genadi's Golden Age is freeware, I have decided that while working on Risky Business, I will also use the Golden Age mod as a base for my own version of a March 1987 mod, titled "Bigger, Better, Badder!" I'll be overhauling the Lifestyle stats, but will try to keep things reasonable at the same time. Personalities will be looked at and tweaked if need be. Gimmicks will be looked at and tweaked if need be. And LordofGustav, don't you worry. Hugo Savinovich's nationality will be set to Ecuadorian, and Carlos Cabrera will be Colombian. :D I'll most likely keep workers' overness the same for now as from what I've seen in Final Countdown's and Ritchardo's respective diaries, things seem to be working out fine on that front. Plus, I don't want one small change to cause such a ripple effect. Basically, I'm hoping to improve on the already impressive Golden Age seeing as that Genadi has been kidnapped by UFOs again. :p I'll be working on this and Risky Business side by side, and both mods will share the same picture pack, which is the Organic style cuts.

Import the supreme mod's angles, matches, and maybe the gimmicks. Only if you think it's a good idea bro?

I can definitely take a look. I'm assuming it's freeware? I may be good on Gimmicks as the Golden Age base I'm using has 339, so I may just stick with that. May import a few of Mammoth's gimmicks for the different interpretations of some gimmicks.

Bit of a nothing comment but I'm so glad you're using the Organic cuts for this.

Not a nothing a comment at all. :) And I'm glad you like that I'm going Organic with this one. I may purge quite a bit of the Event and TV logos too and just use the nGo ones, but hold onto any that may not have an nGo version. That way the pic pack won't be as bloated. I figured just about everyone has the Togg versions, the CW versions, and the other one that I can't remember the name for right now(very light silver with barely visible lines, I think).

Epic. I'm obsessed with your Main Event mod.

Sweet! How's your current game going so far?

Looking over the relationships, and while I haven't watched every shoot interview on the planet by any means, I'm scratching my head about what may have happened between Vince McMahon and the Moondogs(Rex and Spot) for them to have Strong Dislike. I know McMahon replaced Rex with Barry Darsow in Demolition because the fans recognized the original Smash as Rex, but I don't know of anything else. Anybody who might be more well versed on the matter, please feel free to chime in. Otherwise, I may delete that relationship.

Speaking of, I deleted the Barry O dislike relationships with Pat Patterson and Terry Garvin because it wasn't until 1992 when Barry O started going off, and Barry himself(from an article I read on Canoe Slam Sports) said the only reason he said anything was because he had heard everything second hand and was naive enough to buy into it and didn't realize the talk shows and news outlets that wanted him to speak out were just exploiting him. Also, I'm questioning whether to leave in the Piper/McMahon Simmering Tension relationship, or if it's even worth having in there to begin with. I know Piper said there that "They Live" prompted McMahon to make "No Holds Barred," but Piper didn't seem to have any qualms about coming back in 1989.

EDIT: Should I get rid of the Protege relationships of Yet to Debut workers? I mean, what if Shawn Michaels was to die or leave the business early in someone's save before Paul London debuts?

Paul London shouldn't even be a protege of Shawn Michaels. The in game definition of a protege/mentor relationship isn't like the real life definitions. Considering that Michaels wasn't exactly hands on with his school in the slightest, it makes even less sense for that relationship to exist.

The in game definition of a mentor is someone who goes out of their way to further someone's career.

<p>Thanks for the input, Jaysin. And that's what I was thinking, that Protege/Mentor relationships aren't necessarily based on who trained who. I think I'm going to just mass delete the current Protege/Mentor relationship file, and if anyone has any of workers from this time period, feel free to post here. I am going to keep Shawn Michaels and Jose Lothario, though, since Lothario did do what he could to help Shawn further his career.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, I took out Flair's loyalty to Jim Crockett and Ted Turner for now, and same with Sting and Jerry Jarrett and Ted Turner.</p>

While Oyaji is looking over Risky Business to help with the Japanese portion of that mod, I'm knocking out some work for this one. I didn't import all of Mammoth's gimmicks, but I did import a number of them. However, the Gimmick file is only a little over 400. There are gimmicks in there that shouldn't be gimmicks such as "Rudo," "Tecnico," "Luchador," etc. I have thought about leaving them in with all the workers that would lose assigned gimmicks that I might miss, but if I'm going through them anyway, I could delete those. It would push back the release, but I don't think anybody would care if that was the case. Thoughts?

Wanted to update that I'm moving right along in going through the workers so far. Looking at and/or working on Yet to Debut workers first, then I'm going to go through the active ones. I have to say I'm loving working on this. After I get done with the workers, I'm going to look over the title lineages to make sure that workers have their past title reigns acknowledged. If anyone wants to post any errors that were in the last Golden Age update, as well as anything that should be looked at(stats, gimmick performance, etc), feel free to post in there so I can look for them and correct them. Right now, at the rate I'm going, it's possible that this could be released around the same time or before Risky Business.

I've set Potential for everyone to Random as it seems the majority want it that way. Plus, people can add those in for their favorites. I could always release an alternate version that has everything else the same, but with Potentials set. After my discovery about how Relevancy works today, I'll probably be setting some hard Relevancy ages for announcers, interviewers, personalities, etc.</p>

Just wanted to say that this mod is not dead in the water, but will be put on hold for the time being. I'm thinking after I complete Risky Business, I'll do January 1986, then I'll come back to this if the next TEW isn't released yet. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Assuming there isn't another TEW for another couple of years, this is the order I plan on making mods:</p><p> </p><p> -January 1985</p><p> -January 1986</p><p> -March 1987</p><p> -October 1988</p><p> -February 1989 (Savage already heel)</p><p> -January 1990</p>
