Patriotic Pride v. Bluegrass Boys

- Leon takes the loss as Whistler is distracted by other happenings.

Cousin Ezra v. Rafael Ruiz

- There is a difference between losing to The Power and losing to a Cousin. Ruiz shouldn't suffer a loss here.

Chris Caulfield v. The Masked Mauler

- Caulfield is just a much bigger name and talent. I think.

Jimmy Jack McAlister v. Joel Bryant

- I think Bryant is being groomed for a shot at the title sometime soon, so Jimmy Jack takes the fall.

Tag Team Title Match: Skinner Brothers © v. Staten Island Outlaws

- Skinners don't lose the belts, there are more heel teams than face ones. But I think SIO remain in the hunt.

Heavyweight Title Match No Holds Barred:Johnny Martin v. Krusher Karloff

- Karloff does not regain the Memphis Soviet title.

SCCW’s big October show, Halloween Scream, kicked off with the Bluegrass Boys, ‘The Trouble from Taylor Mill’ Henry Bennett and The Gambler, already in the ring. “Tonight,” The Gambler drawled in a thick Kentucky accent, “we drew a Royal Flush. We get to beat Patriotic Pride and prove, once again, why y’all should always bet on blue!” Bennett took the microphone. “I’ve been arrested 17 times. In jail twice. Once powerbombed a cop who tried to arrest me for drunk and disorderly. I’ve never backed down from a fight. They call me the ‘Trouble from Taylor Mill,’ but tonight – Whistler and Leon Williams – I promise that y’all will be the ones in trouble!”

Patriotic Pride (Whistler/Leon Williams) v. The Bluegrass Boys (The Gambler/‘The Trouble from Taylor Mill’ Henry Bennett)

Billy’s Take:

There was a lot of brawling in this match as the Bluegrass Boys stood toe-to-toe with the more experienced team of Patriotic Pride. During the match, it looked like the Boys would prevail when, from the back, Sheik Mustafa and Krusher Karloff emerged to try and distract Whistler and Leon. But Whistler was able to duck a clothesline attempt by the Gambler and hit a Rebel Yell on him for the pinfall victory.

Winners: Patriotic Pride via Rebel Yell

After the match, Johnny Lawless came out to interview the victors – Leon Williams and Whistler. It was, as usual, Whistler who did all of the talking. “The Bluegrass Boys thought they’d put one over on ol’ Whistler and Leon. But they couldn’t do it, could they? Not even with the help of that overgrown Commie and camel-kissing Sheik. We ain’t only tougher than ‘em, but smarter too. But the fact of the matter is that there ain’t enough of us. Me and Leon can’t always beat back four men. So I’m fixin’ to run a boot camp and find a few good men to help us out. So me and Leon are out scouting for new talent, hoping one of ‘em will help guide us to the top of SCCW. Ooo-rah!”

Cousin Ezra w/Pete the Hillbilly v. ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

Ezra came out first, wearing a pair of stained overalls and a straw hat but no shoes. The chaw of tobacco in his mouth was truly impressive – it looked like he was squirreling a softball – and he rubbed tobacco juice on a number of hands he shook on his way to the ring. Ruiz, on the other hand, came out focused and intense, a thin gray hoodie covering his shaved pate. While being introduced, he stretched in the corner, clearly intimidating SCCW’s resident country bumpkin. Once the bell rang, Ruiz shot in and took down the larger Ezra, grounding him and pounding him mercilessly. This was barely a match as Ruiz finished it off with a Ruiz Wrench for the impressive victory.

Winner: Rafael Ruiz via Ruiz Wrench

The Staten Island Outlaws, Broadway Frank and Switchblade Mike, came out to the ring accompanied by the song “53rd and 3rd” by the Ramones. Switchblade Mike wore a black leather jacket while Frank sported an ugly brown track suit. In his oily, smarmy voice, Frank began to speak. “Last month, those geriatric so-called Texas Outlaws called us out. And you know me and Mikey aren’t ones to back down from a fight. So not only do we have to come back to this god-forsaken village to defend the honor of New…York…City” (again, he heavily enunciated the words) “but we have to, once again, smell the reek of desperation that clings to this awful place. My God, it’s overpowering.” He raised a handkerchief from his back pocket to protect his face. “Tonight, to be…frank…we are going to win the tag team titles and then just might take them back north to civilization.”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JohnnyBoyTucker.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MeanMarkGreen.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/FloydBowmn.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MikeyMontana.jpg

They were cut off from any more word-vomit by the arrival of the Outlaws – Johnny Lawless, Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman, ‘Mean’ Mark Green, and Mikey ‘The Trailer Park Kid’ Montana.

Johnny Lawless held the microphone. “That’s about enough Frank,” he began. “We hear you loud and clear. You think the south stinks. You think New York City is God’s gift to North America. You’re convinced that you’re the greatest wrestler in the history of the sport. Is that about right?” Broadway Frank just smirked. “Sorry to burst your bubble twinkletoes, but you are on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon Line. Here in the South, we know how to fight. So how about this…next month, you and your giant mute girlfriend there,” he pointed to Switchblade Mike, “take on any two of us Outlaws. We might not be as good as we used to be, but we’re still good enough to whip both of you!”

Broadway Frank responded. “You got a deal Lawless. Next month, we’ll send you old-timers to the glue factory. And we’ll return north, back to THE greatest city on earth.”

Floyd, unable to hold back any longer, snatched the microphone from Lawless. “**** you, Frank! **** you and the mother****in’ horse you ****ed on the way here!!!”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JoelBryant_alt1jt_zps22ed2b06.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/RafaelRuiz_zpsdf21a967.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/ShaneSneer_zpsecd639bd.jpg

From behind the Outlaws, the Sneer Corp. emerged – ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant, ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz, and Shane Sneer. Sneer’s men jumped the Outlaws and, assisted by the Staten Island Outlaws, succeeded in pummeling the veteran Texans. They left the four Outlaws lying in a heap in the entranceway as Bryant, Ruiz, Frank, and Mike all went backstage as paramedics came to check on the downed men.

‘The Hardcore American’ Chris Caulfield v. The Masked Mauler

Billy’s Take:

Caulfield came out to some generic hard rock riffs and immediately attacked the Masked Mauler, who was already in the ring. He beat the Mauler from proverbial pillar to proverbial post, working over the masked veteran. In the end, he finished the match with a Danger Drop to pick up the win.

Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian strode purposefully down to the ring accompanied by his new theme song, “Re-Entry Blues” by local band The Grifters. He grabbed a microphone. “I was raised the right way – right here in Memphis. I was taught right from wrong and good from bad. My papa would’ve whipped me with a switch if I’d have cheated someone like the so-called ‘straight shooter’ did two months back. But last month, Sniveling Shane Sneer’s other client – Rafael Ruiz – showed that he had some shred of decency left in him. I know, Sneer, that you’ll do whatever it takes to make your man win. And on some level I can respect that. But when you forfeit your dignity? Your pride? Then it isn’t worth it. So next month, I’m challenging BOTH Ruiz and Bryant to a 2-on-1 match. I might not win, but I’m sure as hell going to stand up for myself and what I believe in. And you know what else? I think Papa’d be proud.” At that, Christian grabbed a chair and took a seat at ringside, apparently interested in the next match.

Jimmy Jack McAlister w/Jakki Skinner v. ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

McAlister and Skinner rode down to the ring on the back of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, revving it loudly before hopping off and climbing into the ring. Jakki stripped out of her biker leathers (accompanied by lots of hooting and hollering from the crowd), revealing her typical attire of cut-off shorts and tied-off flannel shirt. Inside the ring, Jimmy Jack McAlister looked good in his first match for SCCW, hanging with the Straight Shooter for several minutes. In fact, it looked like he might win when he locked Bryant in the renowned McAlister Arm Bar. But Shane Sneer started stalking Jakki around the ring and it pulled Jimmy Jack’s attention from the hold. He released it and Bryant caught him in a quick One Shot Drop for the win.

As Sneer and Bryant made their ways backstage, followed closely by Jesse Christian, Boss McAlister, Blackjack McAlister, Whisky Jack McAlister, and Flapjack McAlister came out. They blocked the aisle, not allowing the motorcycle-riding Jimmy Jack McAlister or Jakki Skinner to pass. “Boy,” Boss drawled, “I told ya’ what’d happen if you shacked up with Miss Shorty-Shorts there. And I was right, wasn’t I? You lost that match ‘cuz your head wasn’t in it. You’re at a crossroads, boy. You can go down the path you’re going now and someday you’ll look in the mirror and you’ll be a chain-smoking, leather-faced biker living in a double-wide with your stripper wife. Or you can choose a different path. You can listen to your mama and come back to McAlister Mansion in Hog’s Hollow. Leave the trailer park and its trash where it belongs.” Jimmy Jack McAlister looked at Boss McAlister for a moment, lit up a fresh cigarette, revved up his Harley and shot down the aisle with Jakki clinging to his back, forcing the McAlister clan to jump out of the way.

SCCW Tag Team Title Match: The Skinner Brothers (Dukie Skinner/Matty Skinner) w/Jakki Skinner v. The State Island Outlaws (Broadway Frank/Switchblade Mike)

Billy’s Take:

This was a very evenly-contested match as both teams worked quite well together. The Skinners hit a variety of old school double-team moves, sending the challengers to the floor on several occasions. The Outlaws were content brawling and took advantage of their size to ground their smaller opponents. In the end, it was the Staten Island Outlaws winning the belts after hitting the New York Minute on Dukie Skinner.

SCCW Heavyweight Title Match: No Holds Barred: Johnny Martin © v. Krusher Karloff w/Sheik Mustafa

Billy’s Take:

Krusher Karloff looked, if possible, even bigger than normal this week, his biceps threatening to erupt from his red singlet. Inside the ring, this was a brutal match with both men willingly using weapons, their taped fists, and even an exposed turnbuckle until both were covered in crimson masks. Krusher Karloff nearly won after he connected with a huge lariat, but it only garnered a two count. Then Martin responded with a shining wizard that also netted a two. In the end, it was Martin’s steel chair that proved the difference as the champ, in a desperate attempt to avoid Karloff swinging a steel chain at his head, ducked and smashed the chair over Karloff’s back. Martin then took the chair to the top rope and launched himself onto Karloff, the steel chair between the two men. Although Martin was doubled over in pain, he had enough wherewithal to pin Karloff to retain the title.

With a little time on my hands, and recalling having read a lot of good buzz about "God Bless Texas," I thought I'd give this a shot. And I absolutely love it! Read the whole thing tonight. Now I think I'm going to go back and read about TWL.

Out of curiosity, I notice DQs and a lot of cheap or tainted finishes. Do you run the default product and take "creative liberties" as a writer, or have you altered the product for this diary?

FYI, SCCW Thanksgiving Thunder is taking longer than expected to write as end-of-the-semester-grading and Memorial Day weekend beer drinking have taken up a great deal of time. Still a day or two away, likely, from posting that show. More unexpected changes to come in Southern Championship Class Wrestling!

SCCW Thanksgiving Thunder

November 1997

Attendance: 2,500

Memphis Coliseum

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/JohnnyMartin_zps0cccb2a3.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Whistler_zps0543c6ea.jpg

The show kicked off with Johnny Martin and Whistler inside the ring. As usual, a ‘U…S…A…’ chant broke out when Whistler entered. Whistler, wearing a camouflage Marine Corps t-shirt, took the microphone. “Tonight,” he began, “me and Johnny Martin have a hell of a battle on our hands. We face the two biggest, baddest dudes in SCCW – Krusher Karloff and Sheik Mustafa. And I promise you fans that we’ll fight our hardest to come out on top. But no matter what happens, what tricks they pull out of their hats, next month, I’ve got some backup comin’ – some recruits who’ll help us even the odds up just a bit. Men who we can guide ahead to scout our path to the top!”

Johnny Martin took the microphone from Whistler, set up his ever-present steel folding chair and took a seat in the center of the ring. “What Whistler told you is absolutely right. But it’s only part of the story. Because this right here,” Johnny indicated the SCCW Heavyweight Championship belt on his shoulder, “also means that I’m the best in SCCW. It means that I’m a target for every single man in the back. It means,” he paused for effect, “that I am a marked man. And so tonight, I not only expect to fight Krusher and Sheik, but also any tricks they might have waiting for us. So tonight, I might have to get a bit…extreme.”

The Rock ‘n Rye Express (Harry Skinner/Stevie Skinner) w/Jakki Skinner v. The McAlister Clan (Blackjack McAlister/Whisky Jack McAlister) w/Boss McAlister

Billy’s Take:

Jakki introduced two more cousins, Harry and Stevie, before they faced off against longtime rivals of the Skinners, the McAlister Clan. This was an entertaining match with clashing styles. Blackjack and Whisky Jack have become rather accomplished brawlers, working stiffly, while the newcomers are athletic and flew all over the ring. It looked like the Rock ‘n Rye Express would come out on top after Stevie reversed a McAlister Arm Bar into a backslide, but it only garnered a two count. The four men went back and forth again for several minutes before Whisky Jack hammered Harry Skinner with a huge lariat and locked him in the McAlister Arm Bar to pick up the win.

Winners: The McAlister Clan via McAlister Arm Bar

After the match, Boss McAlister quickly grabbed the microphone from ringside. “Hold on just a minute there, boys,” he motioned to the Skinners leaving the ring. “Sometin’ needs to be cleared up ‘tween our kin ‘fore we go anywhere. Jimmy Jack, son, get on out here.” A motorcycle revved its engine backstage and shot down the entrance ramp, Jimmy Jack McAlister sitting on its leather seat. He flipped the visor of his helmet up and stared at his uncle Boss quizzically. “Son, you got a choice to make. Next month, we’ve got a hell of a match on our hands, buddy. Skinners versus McAlisters, winner-takes-all. We’ve got a real good team – Blackjack, Whisky Jack, and Flapjack. Three of the toughest men I’ve ever met. But we need a fourth. We need you, boy. Last month, Jakki cost you a match. Are you gonna let a woman run your life? Screw up your wrestling future? We ain’t askin’ for you to break up with her….not yet, leastwise. All we’re askin’ is for you to support your kin. Just this once. What’s it gonna be Jimmy Jack? Blood or the broad?”

Jimmy Jack took a long drag of his cigarette and put it out with his boot. “Jakki,” he drawled, “me and you’ve got a good thing. Somethin’ I’m fixin’ on seein’ though. But this ain’t about you and me. It’s about family…it’s about kin…it’s about blood. So next month, I’ll be fightin’ ‘longside my kinfolk.” Boss looked smug. “But that don’t mean,” Jimmy Jack spun around and stared daggers at Boss McAlister, “that I’m your ‘boy’, your ‘son’, or your ‘buddy’. I ain’t doin’ this for you. I sure as **** ain’t doin’ it for ma’ cousins. No, I’m doin’ it for Momma…” he trailed off at the end, helped a befuddled Jakki onto the back of his motorcycle, and shot off down the aisle towards the backstage area.

‘The Hardcore American’ Chris Caulfield v. Flapjack McAlister w/Boss McAlister

Billy’s Take:

Caulfield looked sharp in this match. Despite the experience and size advantage possessed by Flapjack, Caulfield was clearly the hungrier man. Every move by Flapjack was countered by Caulfield who, despite taking a good beating, kept coming back for more. Finally, in the end, Caulfield managed to connect with a Danger Drop for the win.

Winner: Chris Caulfield via Danger Drop

Shane Sneer strode to the ring with ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz following a few steps back, his head covered by the hood of a thin blue sweatshirt. “Tonight my adoring fans, I have a surprise for you,” a few boos rained down on the leader of Sneer Corp. “‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant had a…weird…scheduling conflict. So I bring to you the newest member of Sneer Corp, the crown jewel of my empire, Stuart Ferdinand!”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/StuartFerdinand_zps4eb90ea5.jpg

Stuart Ferdinand came out, a serious expression on his face, as he shook hands with Sneer. “Tonight, the ‘Crown Jewel’ and the ‘Mexican Pit Bull’ get to make an example of a man who is so much like all of you. Just like all of you, Jesse Christian is a nobody. He’s from a dead-end town, living a dead-end life, and fighting for a dead-end wrestler. He tried to invoke the memory of Genghis Rahn, but the fact of the matter is that we made Genghis Rahn for the hills. And tonight, after the beating my men give Christian he’ll wish he was gone too.”

Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian v. The Sneer Corp (‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz/‘The Crown Jewel’ Stuart Ferdinand) w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

Jesse Christian got a loud pop from the crowd when he emerged to the song ‘Rocky Top’ wearing a West Tennessee State football jersey and throwing up his hands giving the sign of his school mascot, the Fighting Tigers. The Sneer Corp, already in the ring, looked at him predatorily – as if he was the evening meal rather than a respected opponent. Inside the ring, Christian held his own in the early going, restricting himself to one-on-one matchups and keeping himself from being double-teamed. But when Shane Sneer tripped him up from outside the ring, Christian spun around and tried to pull the manager into the squared circle. This distraction allowed Ruiz to submarine ‘The Power’ from behind and turn the tide of the match. Christian had one last burst of energy, putting Ruiz in the Tennessee Torture Rack. But, as Shane Sneer instructed him, Ferdinand took out Christian’s legs, which allowed ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ to lock in the Ruiz Wrench for the win.

Winners: The Sneer Corp via Ruiz Wrench

After the match, ‘The Crown Jewel’ Stuart Ferdinand continued beating on Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian while ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz slipped out of the ring and stood on the entrance ramp. While Christian was being pummeled, Broadway Frank and Switchblade Mike – the Staten Island Outlaws – pushed past Ruiz and stood by Shane Sneer. Sneer signaled for Ferdinand to pause his beating and he tossed Frank a microphone. “I like the way you do business,” Frank began. “It’s New York-style, just like Uncle Leo woulda done him. In fact, I like your style so much, I want us to do some business. Next month, we got a match signed against the geriatric Outlaws in an eight-man. We already took out Floyd Bowman – hurt him real bad. That makes three of them and two of us – I don’t like fighting fair or being outnumbered. So,” Frank pulled a thick envelope out of his pocket and tossed it to Sneer. Sneer opened it and a few $20 bills spilled out. “Whaddya think Sneer? Partners?” a smarmy grin stretched across his face. Sneer laughed, pocketed the envelope and shook hands with Frank. “Deal” Sneer said as he ordered Ferdinand to continue his assault on Christian.

Billy’s Take:

The Skinner Brothers came down to the ring to meet the tag team champions, who were waiting inside the squared circle. They kicked off the match with a bang, forcing the Outlaws to the ring floor and getting the crowd to its feet. Whistler/Johnny Martin v. The Axis of Evil (Krusher Karloff/Sheik Mustafa)

Billy’s Take:

Prior to the match, the Axis of Evil came to the ring to the strains of a heavy metal version of the Soviet anthem, waving their respective flags (Mustafa the red, white, and green of Iran; Karloff the outdated red with gold sickle of the USSR). When Whistler and Johnny Martin emerged, the crowd roared – at least in part because it ended the Communist rock song. The match itself was, as one might expect, a brawl with little in the way of technical wrestling. Martin went for his steel chair early in the match, but I was able to intercept it and have it removed. Each man had their moment to shine – Karloff hit a Karloff Krush in the korner – erm, corner – on Martin and would’ve had a three count but for Whistler’s timely intervention. Similarly, Whistler hit a Rebel Yell on Mustafa that earned a two and Mustafa locked in the Camel Clutch on Whistler. But in the end, it was Johnny Martin pinning Karloff after connecting with a DDT to pick up the win for his team.

After the match, ‘Mean’ Mark Green, Johnny Lawless, and Mikey ‘The Trailer Park Kid’ Montana came out to the ring. “Broadway Frank, get your ass out here, RIGHT NOW!” Lawless screamed into the microphone.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/HonestFrank_zpsc5dc15c3.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/MurderousMikey_zps5c3bea9f.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/StuartFerdinand_zps4eb90ea5.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/ShaneSneer_zpsecd639bd.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/RafaelRuiz_zpsdf21a967.jpg

After a minute or two, the Staten Island Outlaws – Broadway Frank and Switchblade Mike – emerged, flanked by their new associates the Sneer Corp – Shane Sneer, ‘The Crown Jewel’ Stuart Ferdinand, and ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz, grins stretched across their faces. “You must be real damned proud of yourselves, aren’t you? You made a deal with the devil – paid Sneer to face us next month. And you took out Floyd – he’s laid up in the hospital with internal bleeding. So I guess you think you’ve got it all figured out, don’t you? You win, we lose – is that it? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but Outlaws don’t run like that. Ya’ see, Outlaws always have a Plan B. Tell ‘em Mark.”

“Frank, you dumb piece of ****, you forgot the most important rule in professional wrestling. Don’t **** with the Outlaws. Ya’ see, our Plan B is probably better than our Plan A. Plan A was Floyd, he’s a mean S.O.B. But Plan B…well, just let me show you Plan B.” At that, he motioned backstage and Johnny Martin, fresh off his match with the Axis of Evil, emerged, brandishing his steel chair. “Meet our Plan B – the ‘American Outlaw’ Johnny Martin!” The crowd roared as the dumbfounded Broadway Frank and Switchblade Mike looked at Johnny Martin in shock. This momentary lapse allowed Martin to brain Frank, leading to a brawl between all eight men as the show came to an end.

Team Tennessee v. Team Trouble

- It seems a pretty easy choice due to the talent here combined with this being based in Tennessee, get the fans on side early! Feel good throw away match.

The Skinner Clan v. The McAlister Clan

- Nothing good ever happens to a team with a Dubba J on it! Not even in Tennessee.

Whistler's Army v. Foreign Invaders

- I needed one of the final two teams to be face winners. And I opted for Whistler's Army, big debut win for the Army Green as Grass new recruits. I could argue this the other way, but I'll go with it. Ref Billy's Embookering Powers!

Texas Outlaws v. Sneer's Outlaws

- As much as I like the Texas Outlaws, they are past their use by date and having Martin fall to someone in Sneer's Outlaw Corporation makes for an instant title feud. Texas Outlaws look good but go out on their back.
