Team Tennessee (Cousin Ezra/Pete the Hillbilly/'The Hardcore American' Chris Caulfield/Jesse 'The Power' Christian) v. Team Trouble (The Masked Mauler/William Fletcher/Crash Davis/Leo Davis)

Billy’s Take::

Team Tennessee came out first, all to Jesse Christian’s theme song – “Rocky Top” – while the crowd roared its approval. Team Trouble, on the other hand, got basically no response. The match was likewise one-sided. The Hillbillies hit their trademark Do-Si-Do Double Clothesline, Caulfield connected with the Danger Drop, and Christian finished off the heels by forcing Fletcher to submit to the Tennessee Torture Rack.

Winners: Team Tennessee via Tennessee Torture Rack

The Skinner Clan (Matty Skinner/Dukie Skinner/Harry Skinner/Stevie Skinner) w/Jakki Skinner v. The McAlister Clan (Blackjack McAlister/Whisky Jack McAlister/Flapjack McAlister/Jimmy Jack McAlister) w/Boss McAlister

Billy’s Take:

Boss McAlister emerged first, leading Whisky Jack, Flapjack and Blackjack. Jimmy Jack trailed a bit, idling his motorcycle a few yards behind his family members. The Skinners came out next, Jakki’s eyes obviously red as she was forced to lead her family into a fight against her boyfriend. I had an incredibly difficult time keeping these teams apart once the match actually began. Clearly, the bad blood extends far beyond the squared circle. As expected, this was a pure brawl with all eight men biting, gouging, kicking, and punching to try and achieve victory. In the end, it was the Skinners emerging victorious after Harry and Stevie Skinner connected with a spinning leg sweep/spinning heel kick combo on Flapjack.

Winners: Skinner Clan via pinfall

After the match, Boss McAlister began screaming at Flapjack McAlister for losing to the Skinners. Boss led Blackjack McAlister and Whisky Jack McAlister backstage, leaving Flapjack and Jimmy Jack McAlister behind. For his part, Jimmy Jack pulled a cigarette out from a pack in the pocket of his leather jacket and walked over to Jakki Skinner, putting his arm around her and leading her to his motorcycle, as she rested her head on his shoulder – evidently glad to put this match behind them.

As Jakki and Jimmy Jack motored backstage and Flapjack slunk off alone, Matty Skinner took a microphone. “When me and my brother Dukie came to Southern Championship Class Wrestling, we came for one reason and one reason only.” He handed the microphone to Dukie Skinner. “And that reason,” Dukie continued, “was to run the McAlisters outta town. We was determined that they ain’t gonna take over SCCW like they done to Hog’s Hollow. And we done it. And we brought us a couple of Skinner cousins who’re younger, meaner, and hungrier than us. So me and Dukie are retirin’ – headed back to Hog’s Hollow to do some fishin’. So thanks, fellas, for the memories and,” he winked, “God bless Memphis!” Matty and Dukie exchanged bro hugs with Stevie Skinner and Harry Skinner before leaving the ring.

Whistler's Army (Whistler/Leon Williams/Guide/Scout) v. Foreign Invaders (Krusher Karloff/Sheik Mustafa/'The Trouble from Taylor Mill' Henry Bennett/The Gambler)

Billy’s Take:

Prior to the match, Sheik Mustafa tried to get the crowd to rise for the Iranian national anthem. Not surprisingly, the fans refused – loudly – and responded with a ‘U…S…A’ chant. When Whistler came out, the chant got even louder as the American Hero waved his flag wildly above his head. Sporting a ‘Semper Fi’ t-shirt, he motioned backstage to bring out Leon Williams and his new wave of recruits, Guide and Scout. As the booker of SCCW, I was glad that the newcomers got a good reaction. As the referee of the match, I had to feign indifference. And as the father of Guide (and having known Scout since birth), my heart swelled with pride. Once the match began, the veteran heels isolated Guide in their corner, working over the youngster. Sheik Mustafa, in particular, looked strong in this match as he dominated Guide. Guide managed to hot-tag Scout, but he too was overpowered by Mustafa and Karloff. When Scout finally reached his corner to tag, he bypassed Leon Williams’ extended arm and, instead, tagged in Whistler who immediately cleared house. It appeared as though Whistler’s Army would win after Whistler connected with the Rebel Yell on the Gambler. But when Bennett broke up the count, bedlam ensued. In the confused melee, Mustafa rolled up Williams to give the victory to the Foreign Invaders.

Winners: Foreign Invaders via pinfall

After the match, Krusher Karloff grabbed ahold of the two newcomers, Guide and Scout and, as Whistler tried to fight off the Bluegrass Boys, Karloff tossed them in the corner. He hit a *huge* Karloff Krush on them, leaving Guide and Scout in a heap in the ring and, apparently, sending a message to Whistler and his recruits.

Shane Sneer led his Sneer Corp, ’The Crown Jewel’ Stuart Ferdinand and ’The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz, as well as the tag team champion Staten Island Outlaws, Switchblade Mike and Broadway Frank, to the ring. It was Sneer who grabbed the microphone. “Tonight, my men make history. No,” he reconsidered, “we fight history. You see, when I first started in wrestling in Texas twenty years ago, there were these four bad asses. You didn’t cross them if you wanted to survive. Their names were legendary in Texas wrestling rings, bars, and whore houses alike. Johnny Lawless, ‘Mean’ Mark Green, ‘The Trailer Park Kid’ Mikey Montana, and Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman. But time’s the one thing that you can’t stop, isn’t that right boys? You see, years of partying with too many ring rats, wrestling in too many ****-hole county fairs, and drinking too much rotgut has caught up with you, hasn’t it? Tonight, youth will be served. Twenty years ago, the Texas Outlaws ruled the roost. Tonight, the Staten Island Outlaws and Sneer Corp. serve notice. It’s *our* time now!”

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Outlaws emerged, Johnny Lawless leading the way and flanked by ’Mean’ Mark Green, ’The Trailer Park Kid’ Mikey Montana and ‘The American Outlaw’ Johnny Martin. Lawless spoke first. “Shane Sneer, you sniveling piece of crap. For the first time in your life,” he paused, “you’re right. Twenty years ago, we *did* rule Texas. Twenty years ago, we did drink too much, we did party too much, we did wrestle all over the ***-damned state of Texas. And we had a hell of a time doing it. But we’re not those men now. We’re not twenty-five any more. Those twenty years have taken away a lot of our physical tools. But we’re a hell of a lot smarter. A hell of a lot more dangerous. So Shane Sneer, you can bring your wet-behind-the-ears boys to the ring. They’ll see what a man-sized beating feels like!”

Texas Outlaws (Johnny Lawless/'Mean' Mark Green/'The Trailer Park Kid' Mikey Montana/‘The American Outlaw’ Johnny Martin) v. Sneer's Outlaws ('The Crown Jewel' Stuart Ferdinand/'The Mexican Pit Bull' Rafael Ruiz/Broadway Frank/Mike Switchblade) w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

This match, months in the making, lived up to the hype. As expected, and as Lawless predicted, the Outlaws used wiles, not physicality, to soften up the youngsters in the early going. In fact, their efforts so frustrated Broadway Frank that he tried to just leave before being coaxed back to the ring by Sneer. Similarly, Ferdinand found himself in the face corner, a victim of a well-oiled team tagging in back and forth to soften up their younger opponents. The Staten Island Outlaws and Sneer Corp staged a comeback, however, when Rafael Ruiz unloaded on Martin, sending the champ sprawling. ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ then turned his attention to Montana, locking in the Ruiz Wrench that would have doubtlessly earned a three count but for the timely intervention of Mark Green. At that point, it turned into an all-out brawl with all eight men inside the ring. As I tried to remove the illegal men, Johnny Martin must have waffled Stuart Ferdinand with a chair as, when I turned around, Martin had Ferdinand pinned with a heavily-dented chair lying nearby. Having no other recourse, I counted the three to give the Texas Outlaws the win.

Winners: Texas Outlaws via pinfall

Match Rating: D

After the match, and as ‘The American Outlaw’ Johnny Martin celebrated his team’s victory, a man later identified as Martin’s former tag team partner Rick Sanders jumped the rail, slid into the ring, and planted the champion with a wicked-looking DDT on top of the already-dented steel chair. Sanders screamed something about an Express message and then returned through the crowd, leaving as the show came to an end.

SCCW Bluegrass Brawl

January 1998

1998 is off to a hot start in Southern Championship Class! The following matches have been announced for Bluegrass Brawl.

Rock 'n Rye Express (Harry Skinner/Stevie Skinner) v. The Davis' (Crash Davis/Leo Davis)

The new representatives of the Skinner clan, now that Dukie and Matty have left SCCW to return to Hog's Hollow, face off against another brother duo in Leo and Crash Davis. Can the Rock 'n Rye Express emerge victorious or will the Davis boys come out on top?

New Wave (Guide/Scout) v. Bluegrass Boys (The Gambler/Henry 'The Trouble from Taylor Mill' Bennett)

Whistler's new recruits, Guide and Scout, took a severe beating at the hands of Krusher Karloff at Christmas Chaos. Will they rebound against the Bluegrass Boys or will they, once again, end up on the losing end?

Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Flapjack McAlister

Last month, Flapjack McAlister disgraced his family by losing to the Skinners. Can he regain his honor this month by defeating the hottest young talent in SCCW? Or will the pride of Memphis, Jesse 'The Power' Christian, come out on top?

Tag Team Title Match: Staten Island Outlaws (Broadway Frank/Switchblade Mike) © v. Axis of Evil (Krusher Karloff/Sheik Mustafa) v. Patriotic Pride (Whistler/Leon Williams)

SCCW's first ever 'triangle' match will pit the tag team champions, the Staten Island Outlaws, against the duos of Patriotic Pride and the Axis of Evil. How will the champs fare when the odds are stacked against them?

SCCW Title Match: Johnny 'The American Outlaw' Martin © v. Rick Sanders

Last month, Rick Sanders arrived in SCCW with a bang, taking out the SCCW champion Johnny Martin after he'd helped the Texas Outlaws secure victory in their match. Will the newcomer take the belt? Or will the American Outlaw keep gold, at least for now?

Quick Picks:

Rock 'n Rye Express v. The Davis'

New Wave v. Bluegrass Boys

Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Flapjack McAlister

Tag Team Title Match: Staten Island Outlaws © v. Axis of Evil v. Patriotic Pride

SCCW Title Match: Johnny Martin © v. Rick Sanders

I never used to like Jesse C but in my 97-2005 game he's turned into a legend. 95+ psych, amazing SQ and a good brawler. He's my boy now

Rock 'n Rye Express v. The Davis'

- Just way more talent, and they can be built up to be challengers to the tag titles.

New Wave v. Bluegrass Boys

- More over, I'm guessing, plus as Eric Tyler would say... the New Wave have dues to pay, so pay 'em, kids!

Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Flapjack McAlister

- More talent, more over, more Power!

Tag Team Title Match: Staten Island Outlaws © v. Axis of Evil v. Patriotic Pride

- It is tempting to think the Axis might walk out of here by stealing the belts, but I think the SIO have legs in their reign.

SCCW Title Match: Johnny Martin © v. Rick Sanders

- Shock upset for Sanders! No reasoning, just a gut feeling.
