Backstory

By the 1980s, the wrestling world was undergoing significant changes. The old NWA territory system was collapsing under pressure from the nationalized Titan Sports, which operated under the brand name World Wrestling Federation (WWF); Titan Sports Inc, Vince K. McMahon's minority-WWF company founded in 1980-, became the modern day WWE after it purchased McMahon Sr's Capitol Wrestling Inc. (majority WWF) and unified as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) as its own corporation after this purchase occurred in 1982. The now NWA-independent WWF- thanks in main part to the epic cage match between Jimmy Snuka and Bob Backlund, on June 28, 1982, that helped make this historic purchase possible- was even able to promote a match between WWF champion Bob Backlund and NWA champion Ric Flair on July 4, 1982, but Crockett still had open plans for the future as well. Jim Crockett's vision was to create a united NWA by purchasing, or merging, all of its member territories.

Piper & Flair

During the course of January Flair and Piper have rekindled a bitter rivalry. Piper seems 100% focused on capturing his first ever NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the expense of rival Ric Flair.

Heated words turned nasty when Flair joined the commentary table for Piper's match against Sgt Slaughter. When Piper could not resist leaving the ring and getting in Flair's face, Slaughter distracted the referee and whilst Piper turned his back on Flair, Flair attacked Piper sending him face first into ring post and giving Slaughter the count out victory. Piper was later diagnosed with a Fractured Cheek Bone and was forced to sit out the following week. Rumors surfaced that Piper would miss out on his Championship opportunity but in typical Piper fashion he returned the following week to declare that nothing would keep him from beating Flair within an inch of his life at MACW's January Big Show.

Brisco Brothers & Funk Brothers

The Brisco Brothers looking keen favorites to capture the vacant NWA Tag Team titles following the departure of Don Kernodle from MACW. That was until the Funk Brothers reunited in an effort to become NWA Tag Team Champions. The two sets of Brothers met in the ring during an episode of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling with the Funk Brothers scoring the victory when Dory Funk Jr pinned Jerry Brisco with a hand full of tights. With the fans backing the Brisco sort of revenge on the Funks and leveled the series to one a piece heading into the Championship match at at MACW's January Big Show.

Larry Zbyszko & Greg Valentine

Larry Zbyszko made his welcomed debut in MACW in early January stating that he was sick of seeing the NWA United States title being disgraced by Greg Valentine and he was here in MACW to take that title away from him. Valentine's new manager Jimmy Hart responded by telling Zbyszko that whilst he was in charge of Valentines' affairs, Zybsko would never get a shot at the US title. Larry announced that Greg's Father Johnny, MACW official had already granted him a title opportunity at MACW's January Big Show.

Thanks for the predictions. @ lordJaguar, im using '1983 War to Settle the Score' by alvarasus Enjoying it so far. Notice that some naratives need deleting. NWA World Tag Team Championships

The Brisco Brothers vs. The Funk Brothers

In a classic tag team battle the Briscos came away with a valuable victory and the NWA Tag Team titles to boot. In an interview following their win, the Briscos addressed the wrestling world stating "We are the best tag team in professional wrestling, it doesn't matter who or were you are, head on down the Mid-Atlantic region and test your skills against the Briscos".

Winner - The Brisco Brothers

At MACW's January Big Show Jimmy Hart was asked about Valentine's chances of leaving the night with the US title. Hart responded saying that he had heard that Zbyszko had travel issues and might not make the show tonight, looking very smug about the whole scenario. Zbyszko infact did not make the show and as Valentine was about to leave the ring Wahoo McDaniel entered as a replacement. Valentine defeated Wahoo with the help of his new manager. I don't think Valentine and Hart have seen the last of Larry Zbyszko.

Piper and Flair put on a treat at MACW's showcase show to end January, referee Randy Anderson called a stop to the Championship match 30 minutes in, feeling that Piper's Cheek Bone was taking to much damage and wanted to prevent the Hot Rod from any further injury. The angry Hot Rod forced Anderson into the corner of the ring and was about to lay the match offical out cold but Flair cheap shotted Piper from behind and then locking in the Figure 4 Leglock. Flair had to be pulled off Piper and to crowd chants of "Lets go Hot Rod" the pair were guided away from ring side by MACW officals.

great start. Mid-Atlantic was top of the world at this time, and thrived despite its roster being raided by Vince (losing top stars Piper, Slaughter, a couple others during the start of his expansion). Hopefully, you'll be able to find a way to keep Piper happy and in house (maybe a world title run? he and Flair swapped the US title several times, so it would not have been out of the realm of possibility).

Piper & Flair

The war raged on between Piper and Flair. Piper claimed that Flair did not beat him and Flair could not beat him. Following Flair's victory over AWA World Champion Rick Martel, Piper challenged Flair to a rematch. Flair accepted and called for a submission match but Piper had his own plan in mind and challenged Flair to a 60 minute long Iron Man Match. Flair replied "You want it? You got it! Wooooo"

Larry Zbyszko & Greg Valentine

Zbyszko returned to MACW and quickly accused Valentine and Hart of interfering with his travel plans. Zbyszko demanded a another chance to face his bitter rival but was told that new NWA TV Champion Magnum TA had already been booked to challenege Valentine at February's showcase event. Zbyszko was told that he would be next in line to face Valentine after Magnum TA.

Tag Team Challenge

Following the Briscoe's comments about any team coming to MACW to challenege for their Tag Team Championships an influxe of challenges appeared on MACW throughout February but one team made an impact picking up multiple victories. The Team of Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane, "The Midnight Express" from CWA were so far undefeated as a team across multiple promotions. With their mouthpeice manager Jim Cornette, The Midnight Express quickly challenged The Briscoes and a match was made for MACW February Big Show.

In a grueling and exhausting contest both men left nothing behind and gave their all through out the 60 minutes. With Flair and Piper tiring Piper locked in his trademark sleeperhold. Flair faded and Piper went 1-0 up with only seconds remaining. By the time Flair came around the time had expired and Piper was heading back to the locker room the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Winner - And NEW NWA World Heavyweight Champion - Roddy Piper

In an exciting back and forth bout, Zbyszko cost Valentine his NWA US Championship leaving Magnum TA the reigning and defending NWA TV and US Champion when Zbyszko attacked Jimmy Hart and stole his megaphone and nailed Valentine with the referee's back turned.

Winner - And NEW NWA United States Champion - Magnum TA.

NWA World Tag Team Championship

The Briscoes and The Midnight Express opened February's Big Show and after a back and forth battle it was the defending champions that came out victorious. The Midnight Express had not only suffered their first defeat as a team but had failed to get their hands on the NWA Tag Team Championships.

In an open contest it was Tully Blanchard that secured the victory with a roll up and hand full of tights.

The new NWA World Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper quickly began to grab the attention of other promotions and their top talent and in the month of March Georgia Championship Wrestling (part of the NWA Alliance) sent Stan Hansen to MACW to bring back the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. A best of 3 series for the NWA's top prize ensued and Piper took the first victory in the series in a one fall contest. The following week Hansen leveled the series, defeating Piper in a Bullstrap match. Going into Final Conflict (The MACW showcase event for March) the scores were one a piece and an Alley Fight Match would take place for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Magnum TA. & Sgt. Slaughter

Following a Magnum TA. match Sgt. Slaughter attacked TA. and proceeded to spit upon the US Championship. The sadistic Sarge declared that he had officialy turned his back on America and his first plan of action is to capture the US Championship and re-brand it the NWA Anti-US Championship. A match has been booked for Final Conflict for the United States Championship.

Larry Zbyszko & Greg Valentine

At Final Conflict Larry Zbyszko & Greg Valentine will final meet in a I Quit Match. After months of shenanigans from Valentine, Larry will finaly get his match.

The Brisco Brothers vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson

Recent MACW debutante Arn Anderson began pairing with Tully Blanchard. The pair look impressive as a unit and will meet The Brisco Brothers at Final Conflict in a non-title match. A win for Double A and Blanchard would surely put them in good stead for a title match, whilst a loss could see them hop to the back of the line and not receive a title match for quite some time.

Piper and Hansen participated in a bloody battle but it was MACW's own Roddy Piper that came out as the eventual victor in a brutal contest. Piper went on record after the match stating that MACW is were the real action is, if you are serious about wrestling then come on down to MACW.

Winner - Roddy Piper

Grade A

NWA United States Championship

Magnum TA defended both his US titles against the sadistic sarge, Sgt Slaughter. Magnum left Slaughter down and out then and layed the American flag he had entered with across the motionless Slaughter.

Winner - Magnum TA.

Grade B-

I Quit Match

Greg Valentine Vs Larry Zbyszko

Larry Zbyszko finaly got his hands on Greg Valentine in an I Quit match. Larry defeated his rival via submission after locking in the LarryLand Dreamer and refusing to release the hold until Valentine screamed 'I Quit'.

Grade B

Non-Title Match

In a non-title match Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard defeated The Brisco's and are now surely the first in line to get a title shot at the fan favourite brother duo. Anderson and Tully worked excellent together and left MACW fans shocked with an underdog victory.
